"We're going to this has been amazing. What should the listeners do to check out what you're doing? So that you do want them to go to AI 21 studio, do you want them just to go to word tune and try that? Both? Yeah, they can go to a 21 dot com. And read about the company and its vision and explore the different products that we have and also check out the platform, the a 21 studio platform. And just can you have a mobile app? Which you can use as part of your keyboard in your iPhone. Yeah, we just launched it about a month ago, our keyboard application for iOS. Basically, everywhere your work on your mobile, that keyboard suggests generative alternatives, what you're trying to express. So you can write a WhatsApp or a social post and we'll suggest we've different ways of saying it, and. People are very nascent. It's just a few weeks what people are extremely. Hooked to it, people love it. I like the idea that you deployed it as a keyboard extension. Because then as you said, it's consistent with your strategy about integrating with the places you already write. I love this story. So I'll make sure that those links go into the show notes for this for this episode. Hey folks, I'm Brett can sell a host of The Voice bot podcast. We've been doing this every week for almost 6 years now. We've been talking to the leaders who are shaping the future of AI. In this case, large language models really valuable here too. There were a couple of things you said in the last 5 or ten minutes, which I think haven't been talked about anywhere else that I've come across, so hopefully that was really valuable to the people who listened to the end. Everyone, you can connect with me at Brett kinsella on the Twitter or on LinkedIn. There's been a lot of talk about large language models there. And definitely if you have not signed up for this in the newsletter, Cynthia dot substack dot com or just go to The Voice by the day, I would say website and click synthia and the navbar. We've got some really cool things coming up. I know if you are subscribed to that newsletter, you'll be the first to know. Or a goshen. Thank you so much for joining me today. "This is episode two 94, The Voice by podcast. My guest today is Oregon, CEO, cofounder of AI 21 labs, the creator of word tune and one of the leading large language models available today. Hey there, boys bought nation and my Friends from the Cynthia community. I'm Brett kinsella, host of The Voice bob podcast. Today I have the privilege of bringing you another amazing guest. I learned a lot and I'm sure you will too. Each week, since 2017, we brought you an innovator designer engineer or other leader shaping the AI or synthetic media industries. Today's guest is a leader in the hottest tech category around, generative AI. You're about to get an inside look into how leaders are thinking about the technology behind large language models and the applications built on top of them. Now, some of us were already mesmerized by the potential of large language models years ago. But since chat, GPT, it seems like everybody is OpenAI is clearly the best known gender of AI provider, but my guest today from AI 21 labs offers one of the few alternative LLMs out there and the company has some fascinating products already built on top of it. If you are interested in large language models, generative AI more broadly or the synthetic media market, you should also be subscribed to the Cynthia newsletter. It provides daily news and analysis and companies such as AI 21 labs, OpenAI's, to build the AI, mid journey, Google AI research, and a whole lot more. It's free to subscribe, just go to voice bot dot AI and click the synthia button in the navbar, I hope to see you there. And I hope to see you in the synthia community very soon. We're having a lot of fun tracking and making sense of the market, getting some early looks at new products and data. Definitely join us. My guests today are now he cofounded AI 21 labs in 2017 in order to help people transform how they read and write with the help of AI, now the vision was founded on a fundamental understanding of the limits of large language models as well as their capabilities. Now the limits of large angles models are one of the topics we talk about today, which I think will be really fascinating because this isn't something we hear a lot about. We hear about some of the manifestations of that or you actually get into some of the reasons why those problems manifest. But we also talk about the capabilities and the combination of the limitations and capabilities led to a 21 labs first product war tune, which today has over 1 million downloads in the chrome web store and over a 4.7 star rating from users. So, pretty successful. Goshen also discusses the company's other products and its platform, which enables developers to leverage AI 21s models through APIs. And guess what? We discussed OpenAI and how chat GPT fundamentally changed the market. It was a fun conversation. I know you're going to like it. Prior to AI 21, costume was the founder and VP of technology for crowd X, which was acquired by cell wise. He was the founder and VP of R&D for talk on and an entrepreneur in residence at Cisco. He has a background in cybersecurity, software development, big data analytics. Next up, the large language model revolution, and what it takes to transform the AI technology into useful everyday applications. Let's get started. Shooter stood over California mom holding baby, killed both
"Authorities in central California are searching for the suspects and a brazen shooting that left 6 people dead, including a ten month old baby. There's a $10,000 reward being offered for information leading to arrests after 6 people were killed early Monday in the agricultural community of goshen California. We have two suspects. At a news conference yesterday to Larry county sheriff Mike boudreaux says a teenage mother holding her infant was fleeing the violence when The Killers caught up with her outside the home. The shooters stood over the top of the 16 year old mother and fired rounds. Into her head. The other four victims ranged from 19 to 72 years old, including a grandmother who was shot as she slept. This family was a target. Audio courtesy kfsn, boudreaux walked back earlier comments that the attack was likely a cartel hit, but says law enforcement is familiar with the home and investigators are looking into whether the slayings were drug or gang related. "To four on for the champion hurdle beating goshen by 12 lengths, or is it the fact that he's an actual champion hurdle trial in the fight? No, no. No, it's the fact of how impressive he looked. It's the way he did it. Yeah, it's the section of timing and the way he looks, he looks really so he'd have gone odds on how he wanted to ask us as well. I would say so, you know, I'd say he would have been. Okay. And he would have been a daunting for some reason. I don't think he would have been as impressive and asked her as they would have been as it was and just in the ground the ground was softer and. I just don't think yeah. There's a difference in tracks. He would have worn you would want to ask us as well about it. He just wouldn't have been as impressive. I don't think. I did see comparisons being made about the fighting 5th to previous years, which be very, very careful with that because this race changed. The distance has changed and conditions of the race have changed over the years. No, I don't think I don't think about performance ever. Even times when everything he looks, he looks to reindeer. What I would say is if you're going to be saying that's the fastest fighting 5th of all time, it's actually not. Because the distances has changed in that race. But there was far more to like about them than dislike. He is without question the most exciting horse. And if you're, if you're on board, all right, let's say champion hartle comes around and you get to ride them. And in the champion hurdle is honeysuckle statement verbal. I like to move it. It's pretty small field. What do you do on him? You're at the start. You're lining up. Are you handy? Are you holding a movie for you? He's very all noise. It's a handy Andy. In the first two is a type of heart. It looks very uncomplicated. And you'll be able to control the pace. I probably sit in front of them behind her. And. I think. The top stories that we're following for you today, a small private plane, has crashed into a utility tower in Montgomery village at the intersection of rothbury drive and goshen road. The pilot is identified as Patrick Merkel 65 of Washington D.C.. The passenger is identified as Jan Williams, who's 66 of Louisiana. Crews are working to stabilize the plane before they can rescue the two people trapped inside. No injuries have been reported at this time. Congress returns this week from the brief holiday break, and President Biden wants lawmakers to renew gun control efforts, following recent deadly shootings. Mitchell Miller is on Capitol Hill. I'm glad that President Biden is going to be pushing us to take a vote on an assault weapons ban. The house has already passed it. Connecticut senator Chris Murphy, who led an earlier effort to pass gun safety legislation. An assault weapon was not used in the recent deadly shooting at the Chesapeake Virginia Walmart. Murphy, speaking on CNN's State of the Union, says a new band can't stop all shootings, and notes it wouldn't affect current gun owners. Nobody's talking about taking those weapons away from individuals. We're just talking about stopping new sales. But Republicans are critical of expanding gun restrictions and Murphy acknowledges Democrats currently don't have the 60 votes they'd need to move legislation forward. "Good morning, I'm Stephanie gains Bryant the top local stories we're following this hour, a small private plane coming from White Plains, New York, crashed into a Pepco tower in Montgomery village yesterday. It was headed to Montgomery county airport and crashed near the intersection of rothbury drive and goshen road, the plane is still dangling a hundred feet in the air with two people trapped inside. Joining us live from the scene is John Aaron. Good evening or good morning, John, how you doing? Yeah, morning now, Stephanie. It's a chilly and foggy day out here, and you can barely see the plane through that fog, but it is definitely there next to the tower suspended in the power lines that single engine white plane, and right now you can see a couple of bucket trucks with their arms extended tower trucks really, and workers right now appear to be testing those power lines to ensure that their de energized. That is the first step of a multi step rescue plan that's taking hold here tonight. The workers have to make sure that the lines are de energized even though we've been told that the power has been cut off. After that, the plane has to be basically strapped to this tower to make sure it doesn't move when they try to get the people out. And finally, Montgomery county fire chief Scott Goldstein told us they have a couple of options in getting the people out. They could try to use bucket trucks that could also try to use a giant crane that's been brought here on site. But right now, just a lot of firefighters here. A lot of utility workers and there are still a lot of people milling about just watching this really unbelievable sight here in Montgomery village. Reporting live, John, yes. John, how long or how much longer do you think this might take? It's really not clear Stephanie. They've told us that the first priority is the safety of everyone involved, the safety of the rescuers, the safety of the people in the plane. So they're obviously being very, very methodical about how they're going about this. But as I said, we're really only on the first step of this rescue plan. First they had to amass all of these resources, all of these assets to get this plan together. Now they're actually starting to execute that plan. And it appears that they're on the first step of that trying to make sure the power lines are de energized. As I said, there's several more steps to go after that. So this could go on for a little bit. Thanks, John. Thank you. It is a 1205, meanwhile, Montgomery county public schools and offices are closed today due to the outages, the school systems reporting that more than 40 schools and 6 central office facilities are without power. "These horses can make mogs live at times, but it probably just tells us how much these horses improved again, despite he is a 7 year old now but if you look at his page and this horse is a bit of a freak greedy because I mean, he's by a horse called power who's barely a mire himself and he's got a real, he's got he's got one of these real funky old pedigrees that he shouldn't be turning up Alaska on a Saturday and doing something like this over three mile over fences, but I mean sometimes Thomas has got a real real nice horse on his hands obviously he's in the big race is near at newbury next. Yeah, it's the Carl. We still call it the Hennessy on the final furlough. Of course we do. Of course we do. It's very exciting. He's got a good one there for sure. Danny Kerwin, you look down at his profile. He has done this at times where he's happy with a silver medal. But he is very easy on the eye and you can see where Harry Durham I would say in the morning times this horse just absolutely eats horses up on the gallop, you know, when the bits up in his mouth and things are you doing things in third and fourth year, but I mean it looks still he certainly not doing too badly but he's rising ten note Danny carwin so he's not getting any younger but that was good run the other day a good solid run and I definitely thought there was one or two in behind the likes of kitty's light step forward again from the runner and even papa poutine was a heart of Niger twist and Davis is definitely keep on the right side of and will be better for the run but not well done to Sam Thomas. I think he looks to me like he said to have said to have a good season. Considering his dad was a winner at Asuka's as well. This is our power of course. But this division like he was a covered tree winner. He would go on to win the national stakes and famously the 2000 guineas in Ireland as well. And it was a beautifully bred horse. I'm pretty certain that when power went to stood, this was not the plan, but we did talk about always in your early run and being by Dylan Thomas. It's funny how these things work out, but I really liked it. And if he's able to replicate that performance of the higher market because he will get into the Hennessey, he'd have a very strong chance. I wouldn't put anybody off back at him. He would have to have a big chance of running a big race there. It's going to be deeper class, of course, but everything that you said, the fact that he was going to need this run and yet he's managed to run out such a good win or others. Yeah, I really like his prospects indeed. The devil's coachman, as we switch to Ireland, wins the purchase by 3 p.m. today to

"And that day, final for the podcast listeners coming up to me all day coming up and saying, oh, daddy Kerwin in the last can't wait for it can't wait for Harry himself came over. He was getting quite nervous because there was so many people coming up to him saying we're on we're on. Beaten 60 legs. But hey, it doesn't always pan out so well and when I asked Harry in the interview about his new career as a trainer and we wish him well he's going to be starting with first runners on boxing day, saint Stephen's day. I said, what was your highlight? Who was the best source you worked with? Digit. Without a shadow of a doubt it was Denny carwin, which just had me laughing all around the place. So I'm delighted to see the horse come back to some of the form, but for all that he was back to form, he couldn't lend the glove on our power in the end. He stayed on very strongly for Charlie deutsch and Sam Thomas. What did you make of the betu London girl cup? Yeah, I mean, I'd listen to a call from because sometimes is a great speaker. And in his opinion, he thought maybe our power would come forward for the run. I asked Scott, that's why I was sort of a little bit cold on him. I was looking elsewhere, but when I saw him jump the last shot, I talked. Because we know of Danny kirwan's previous power wins here. It was in a way for me it was a little bit of a signal because he came home at 11 to two and Sam Thomas, you know, the few days previously that a winner at or the web actors had chips, or just got run down in the bumper. He had a winner elsewhere of these Walter planter horses. They were just since these houses were starting to get going now. So for our power to come out and do that the other day when Sam thought he would maybe come forward from the room.

"For a little bit. We got things off to an interesting start to ask us in the limited handicap chase. We were seeing goshen making his debut over fences. We spoke to Jamie Moore on talk sport two on the Friday and we were wishing them well and come back safe and sound. I thought it was going okay around the first four and then it just went horribly wrong. They're going to give him another go over fences. Should they, patty? I don't know. It was really hard to read that one. Because he got very warm, didn't he? He got very warm down to start cautioning he really was sweating. Very badly and I mean, is he sweating like a horse? He's nearly 7 year old, a gosh. He's been around enough is he sweating because of what's a common because he's hurting he's in pain, he didn't really jump left or right and overall, utterly jumped pretty good. You know, he just didn't really have a cut at his fences. He was wanting to run into the bottom of them and more safety first. It was there to be. And he didn't take any chances or do anything daft, but I gave credit to the other jockeys in the race, to be honest, I mean, because they were not going to let him have a freebie and get comfortable on the front end. They knew he's only a handicap horse. He was going to carry 1110, giving them all plenty of ways at his first crack over fences here. They were going to be because I think a big factor here was where to start was it was going to give Jimmy more a chance, you know, they were able to jump them fences on the side, then come uphill. It was going to give me a chance to get them settled and into rhythm. To your lads, I'm sure they said, which are hang on. Let's get, let's sit right in his boot and eyeball them early doors here. And if he's not out for it, or he's not really enjoying this chasing job, he should back out with it. And he started to back out with straight away on the downhill fences. You could tell Jamie Moore had very little harsh underneath him pretty quickly. So I thought, without obviously he was disappointed in it, he was beaten along well, but I thought your guys played a blinder here and they weren't going to let them get anywhere comfortable and so they took him out of the equation from a good way from a home. The thing is, gala road. He had questions to answer because he completely bombed out, didn't he a purse? It was really too bad to be true. So there was question to answer for some of the others as well. But I think they take that box pretty early doors. I mean, Gary Moore is a fantastic guy. He's a straight talker. He said they'll give him another bash, push. No, honestly, I'd say they're probably scratching their head a little bit as much as much as we are, but I'd love to see him conclude our fences, but there's no doubt he's got a bit, maybe even if he were back into it if they put him into a straight novel or beginners where there might be only another small field and they might let him loose on the front end. But be a bit of a head scratcher for me, the minute where they're going to go. He's a cork bag. I mean, that's just the best way of describing them. He's a cork

"Second of the race last year, winner this time around. Probably not going to see him again till the spring. He was described afterwards by Dan skelton as being a million to one for the long walk hurdle and a zillion to one for the cleve. We'll look at cheltenham and aintree just groundwood and Sudan. It's as simple as that. And there's not much more to running him if he's not going to be suited by the ground. 303 5, I totally take on board what you're saying. I wonder was it just reverting to hurdles that he was jumping over big and being quite awkward with him? And even though it wouldn't be going in his favorite direction, I wonder, is the Carl slash Hennessy going to be his target? We shall see what Paul Nichols chooses to do with him. He was awkward buddy. I liked the comeback for all that there were plenty of things about it that would make your eyebrow raise. The doble began, though, for the skeleton team with Molly Ali's wishes, who won this race last year, so she was going back to back. And beat my TELUS guy, who ran a stormer for Lucy Walden and Brian frost and really the rest were nowhere. Molly Ali's wishes and martellus sky are two very talented horses. It was a great two penalty for Molly Eli's wishes and yet she managed to get the job done. This was very, very likeable back enlisted company back to back wins in this race. Yeah, no, it was really good. You know, because I think the second Mari telescope of Lucy Warren, so I think this is a real good mayor. I mean, I know she turned into a little bit of a fake and market race and specialist, but Marcellus guy is taking a while just for the things to start happening a bit harder than it was never a complete natural but I thought that was a career best the other day and was only just run out of it by a mayor and Molly always wishes who really, if you look at a record when she comes back and is caught fresh, she's very difficult to turn over. You know, there were absolutely mud para fear of CDC who didn't our usual thing and roll along on the front end. You know, for a while, I'd say in ronin martellus sky was probably pretty short and then she just had a little blow from the back of the last and was worn down but very solid yards taken Molly are these wishes, but I would imagine that for Dan skeleton he's just got to have maybe two possibly three bullets that he's got to fire with Mario Ali's wishes because you look at a record she is inconsistent. You just can't go to the web or too often it simple as that and so many other horses are like that. That's fair enough. So I think you've got to have big targets, but not many of them with Molly are these races. But fair play, the stroke with their first political decision to land in another nice listed prize and yeah, she's been a cracker mayor for them. And I'm very, very well in the name, I think it is a bit of a backstory to it, and it's just fantastic all around, but keep my telescope on site. I think Lucy Watson's got a really real capable mirror on her hands here. Yeah, very much so. Molly Alice, which is going to be back in January. She'll be running in the grade two at asker that she won last year. No other race for her until then according to Dan skelton. So another one who's going to be taking a little bit of a step to one side for a little bit. We got things off to an interesting start to ask us in the limited handicap chase. We were seeing goshen making his debut over fences.

"Dan skelton had a good day, whether he took the battery 6 5 hurdle shimmer. This was a double after Molly always wishes had one and fairly sluiced in one by ten lengths from Thomas Darby, 300 through 5 was reverting to hurdles. And I'll mention it very quickly because I did a poll on the ultimate machine we asked you who do you think will win or who would you be backing to win the king George? The options were alejo, brave man's game, protector ash and then other who you think, who would you put in? So I think it was 2% of you. Yes, 2% of you went for other and friend of the show Andrew mount said 300 through 5 because he's unbeaten going right handed. I like that logic. Protector I got 3% of the vote. Brave man's game who he just talked about 22%, 73% of you go for alejo. If he turns up, it's game over. But very, very exciting. But anyway, 305 was back in this race. Beaten 15 and a half lengths, but there's a pleasing comeback over hurdles, sporting John didn't really show up, but the skeleton team back in winning ways in the bet three 6 5 hurdle. It was a great to what did you make of the patty? Well, for me, prohibit times is a little bit older, not as an ebook. I mean, Harry skeleton, I just love when I know it can be at times he's been criticized, he can be too aggressive on the front end, but I love when Harry Scott drops 20 last, like he did on the other day. You know, I was just absolutely poetry and motion. And now let's not forget this was a very, very capable. He was born online at his best on the level. You know, and he seems like he's been around for a longer. I know he's still raising age or old. He's a 143 rated Carter going into that race year to day. But I think there's a few factors we've got to look at to be honest. Because Thomas Darby, that that is window. He's another one. He's a hard horse predict, but Holly Morphy show has shown lemurs in the last week that is a string or starting to come forward a little bit. So this is a bit better. But Priscilla is still defeating the tenants. 300 through 5 is a harsh web's keynote, but the other days he's heard them was very awkward. It wasn't great. And I would ask the worst I've seen them worse round I've seen them put in. I know it's gone left handed, but he's another one who has beaten over 15 months sporting John. Although his numbers look good gone in theater days regards his wins to runs over hurdles. I think connections have given up on the old chase and job. And this day before you've got to say the just not got going yet, the team. So in the fact that it just didn't turn up, you know, it took the same campaign as last year went upon the lord didn't win this time upon he ran a reasonable race but she completely bombed out against the boys here and was well beat. So I'm not really sure if the race just didn't fall apart a little bit, but nonetheless, Priscilla couldn't have done anymore. Kind of one by ten lengths and it was vintage and Harry skeleton and just very, very good. And as you mentioned, great afternoon for the team on the day.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. It's a bit frustrating, but it's just not something that the BHA are asking trainers to do. And if you're not asking them to do it, why would they disclose it? Look, I got this race badly wrong. I was with the hoist in Europe, but hey, if you listen to Mark Milligan, then you walked away with 9 to one 11 to two and 15 to 8 winners at the weekend, so you were doing all right if that was the case. A hoist in Europe went off 11 to ten. Brave man's game took a bit of a walk in the market went off twos. And officially the scoreboard is now too old, but when you look at that scoreboard, they kind of maybe entry when they were over hurdles. You could even start to argue about that. Actually show up that day. I think there's a question mark. All four times they've opposed one another, whether or not they turned up, I don't believe for a second that that was a hoist in your at his best in the caldera and opposite chase last year. I certainly don't think that was him at his best at the weekend. And there's a fairly strong argument to be made that both times at entry. That wasn't brave man's game at his best. How disappointing was the hoist senor and why do you think he bummed out so bad? Well, we see in the interview with Peter school more straight after the race. He got he did look and sound extremely deflated without making excuses, but he did seem very deflated. Now, for me, I wasn't exactly stunned or what if Evie was mine, I wouldn't have been as deflated because he made his reappearance in the contemporary memorial last year. No, he made a real bad mistake that he'd run well up to up to a point. Then he got tired, made a real about mistake. He nearly got rid of Derek Fox and it was just a room that was badly needed.

"Primarily because he's changed the plan. And this was something that Paul Ferguson I talked about in September and in October as well. With Al Ho that it's a two week gap between the John drucker memorial and the king George, so that's not going to be suitable and he's decided to go for the club my loyal chase instead. Again, William Mullins bingo, proceed with caution. But if Al holt does turn up in the king George, he's going to be very, very hard to beat, but it would be a mouthwatering clash between those two. For sure and I think probably the biggest basis that performance at the weekend can be a man's game is because the comparison with the numbers and what allahu has achieved ratings and whatnot compared to what went on year to day bush. That isn't really not brave man's game for that. He can't control the opposition that line up. It was a quick time and obviously from what we've seen at all his numbers are bigger. I think the three mile top end chasers in Ireland are a better level. We don't maybe see above them, but at least in order they do take each other on, whereas over here, it's a little bit of a softer buildup to that March April time or part of the season. Should I say, but it would certainly be a kraken race because that is what, for me, bray man's game is all about a quick track where you've got a fence accurately because they come up quick it's a flat even track and although that said it's a speed based track because then the fences do come up quick. You've got to be good on your feet and that's for a higher impact game. You will not see many as clean on his feet as this horse. And for me, that's got to say petrol so much petrol on the way around. So it'd be very interesting bread man's game is a year older, the year stronger Paul Nichols has got another 12 months to learn and trainers are always learning about their horses. So I do think if I had a whole turn of job, you know, he's certainly won't walk over bread man's game because this is almost like it's a home game for him, isn't it? So it will be very, very interesting because that probably more so than press prepare merge. That for me is brave and games gold cop really. Yeah, and the more you hear from Paul Nichols, the more you realize that that's the main target for him. Yeah. I mean, I still take issue with the racing post headline last year, like the front page, not even headline. Front page captain 2022 king George winner after he won the color stars novice chase, but look, it's all about hype and they're playing that game as well. I suggested that if you fancy them for the king George, you should take the 33s for the gold cup. Top price 16s now, 14s really. So if he was to win the king George and on the basis of what he's done here, you read that on paper, a three and a half length beating of El Dorado island doesn't particularly read well. But when you watch the visual performance, you see how powerfully he's traveled through the race, how beautifully he's jumped, how easily he's won. I'm convinced he would have won by further if they really wanted to. They just, it was very much a case of get the job done and then build to kempton. Would you be tempted by 16s, 14s for the gold cup? Well, I'll put it this way. I think if he went to campton and something really stuck it in his ribs that day and made Bretman's game, maybe sort of polar race out of the fire. I think as long as Paul Nichols could get them back for the likes

"Yeah, I completely agree with you. This was an authoritative performance. He's jumped beautifully. He was gaining ground at his fences for that matter. And I'm pretty confident that what you said about Harry is absolutely spot on, but also that Paul did not want to blow the lid off and completely. I'm sure that it was important to him to win this race in the context of clashing yet again with the voice and your. But this is his prep for the king George. He isn't going to have another run. He goes straight to campton now. And so the finishing touches will be put on a ditch it. And bookmakers have been quick to act. They've got them to 9 to four, best price 5 to two. And I get it normally, I'm critical of prices that are fanciful when they're cut very short, but I actually, I get this, this is his target. This is where he's going and he was unbelievable in the cod star novices chase last year. So we know he acts at the track and you're right. Whatever about the springtime, for some reason he just doesn't seem to be the same horse. It's entirely possible that, actually, I'd like your take on this. I have a theory that the reason he bummed out at entry was he was fully primed for cheltenham and then didn't get to take up that engagement because he was withdrawn due to the horrible ground. Sometimes that does have an after effect on horses. If a horse is very primed for a race and then isn't allowed to run in it, that they lose a little bit of something. They lose their edge. Would that be one of the reasons why you think he was so disappointing at entry or do you think it's something a little bit more complex? Yeah, no, it's not a bad shout at all. You can see it across all sports. It's the same boxers. If an event is called off, all the people on the main card, the undercard, they've all got to let themselves down again. And then pick themselves or get back into shape. And it can just knock the edges off. There's no doubt, so I definitely think you could be onto something there. You know, he's a big lad, as I say, he puts plenty into everything that he does throughout a race and I would imagine just trying to get the timings right and make a horse or get a horse to hold his form. I wouldn't think it's an easy job. Yeah, it can be. But he's very exciting. And we know that the king George has always been the plan with them. So I took a real positive of this. I know that there were some who didn't. And that's fine. It's a game of opinions. That's what it's all about. And maybe we're wrong. In the context of who he's going to be facing, the more I hear from William Mullins and we are very much playing Willie Mullins bingo here. But the more I hear from him, the more likely it is that aloha is going to run.

"We switch gears from flat into the jumps, this is your bread and butter, but you're a top class flat analyst as well. You've been busy with the sales. How are you transitioning from flat to jumps? I can generally adjust pretty quickly to be honest. I mean, look, I think we all enjoy the top end stuff on the flat. It'd be hard not to, but I think for me, any kind of jump and definitely is my bag for sure and we've seen, obviously, I think the unofficial launch of the jump season is that weekend at check store, isn't it for all the real national hunt gurus? And yeah, another weekend just passed and I think we've seen some very, very interesting artists on that front as well. Yeah, big time. And one of the highlights of the season is the king George and effectively a trial for it is the Charlie hall Chase, but it's a great race in its own right. And we had the clash of brave man's game against the hoist in your, except we didn't really, because hoist and you're a completely bombed on the day, but brave man's game didn't. And as one had a really good winner, three and a half lengths between him and El Dorado Allen, who was giving him weight. He was carrying 11 8 months game 11 5 and this was his second wind operation, first run after the second one. Let's talk about brave man's game, first of all, what did you make of his winning the Charlie hall? Well, I mean, look, I wasn't really that surprised that he came out on top because I think if you watch his profile, this first whenever really he's bombed out or disappointed, it's always been in the latter part of the season. He tends to put an awful lot into his gallop in his jumping and I just think the March April time will not maybe seen the real Bri man's game. I think he's definitely a harsh word following this time of the year. The other day, as expected, he was breathtaking to watch out. I've not seen many horses adjust his feet at his fences that this setup would do without actually breaking momentum. It's incredible to watch and yeah, maybe we could grab the numbers, what he's run to the other day, but I think these horses, they're not going to get older without getting wiser and I think the majority of them fall into the bracket where they're only going to do what's required. It's a long season, Harry cotton wasn't going to empty the tank and leave any races behind him there. For me, he couldn't have done anymore.

The Top 10 Cities With Emerging Housing Markets
"The number one city for emerging housing markets yesterday. Elkhart goshen in Indiana. Number two, Burlington, North Carolina. Number three, Johnson City, Tennessee, number four. Fort Wayne Indiana, Indiana doing very well in this study. Number 5, billings Montana. It comes with a snow shovel from Andrew and Todd when you buy a house there. Raleigh, North Carolina kind of makes sense to me. That's number 6. Rapid City South Dakota is number 7. It felt a little bit in the rankings every year, but still that people are moving to Rapid City because it's affordable. North, port, Sarasota, Bradenton, Florida, is an 8th place. Again, we're talking about low cost states, low tax states. Number 9 to pick up Kansas. To pick a Kansas and rounding out the top ten improbably the salia Porterville. Dwayne is looking at me like, this hell yeah, Porterville? Yeah. You ever been to Visalia? I'm not sure that that would be my recommendation to anyone moving out of favor. For about 5 minutes.

"Goes below about 70 here in Boston. You're right. Indoors. So what can we do for you, Julie? Well, I have a 1988 Chevrolet beretta. And when it does get really cold here in goshen, which doesn't real often, but every now and then, especially with the wind chill when it gets close to zero or below. I have a fuse that keeps blowing out on me. And it's nothing that's real, real important, but it's things like the courtesy lights inside the horn, the door locks the radio, the clock and the memory on the radio. Those kinds of things. And it just, it always happens whenever it gets to a certain point as far as the weather's concerned. Really? Yeah. How cold does it get? Well, what are the items against the door locks? The door locks. Lock the radio. Now, the tape deck still works. But the radio goes out. Yeah, all you're blowing out is the radial memory. Right. Okay. And then the horn, the courtesy lights inside. Oh, and I think the cigarette lighter is on it also. You use a cigarette lighter? No, I never do. And my brother had suggested that I disconnect that. And when I went to my mechanic, he went ahead and took the lighter part out to see if that would help, but it has blown since then. Ah, good, that's good. My vote. For the likely culprit. Is the door locks? Really? Why? Well, because the stinking lights don't care how cold it is, but the door locks might. Well, how about the horn? It'll blow. It'll blow even if you don't blow the horn. Right? Yeah, we'll see sometimes when I open the door, the light will still come on and then I'll get in. And when I start the car up already, there have been times when once I turn the steering wheel, the horn will blow, and it won't stop until I pull the plug out, pull the fuse out. Tell us. Oh, was my guest right then? A what? Oh, that's good. All right. Good information. I changed my vote then, of course. A corn relay. Corn relay. Me too. But I mean, did you tell the mechanic this? Well, the time that it did the horn when it blew and wouldn't stop was after the last time I was in. Oh, okay, well, I didn't mention that to him. It's a big clue. Do you park far from where you live? No, not real fast. It's the horn of blowing a 2 o'clock in the morning when you know it. Yeah, I would probably be well, I don't know if I would hear it or not. Maybe. It has never happened to your knowledge though. No, it has never happened unless I've been. Have you found an ice pick stuck in your tires? Have you found any ice picks stuck in your tires?.

"A, which I think you could draw a line through. I just don't think, although he handles heavy grind, there's something about softer sand and it can really catch his own. He didn't. He was one of a number of forces. He just didn't go on it that day. He needs to jump better than he did there. But I think he will. He John well, listen, he don't want it when he won this time last year. Very important that you don't compare the love that was asked love those fences are pretty soft. The characteristic side occasionally, but usually because they end up trapping along going very fast at love though rather than the fact that the fences themselves are stiff. So he does have a little bit to prove in terms of his jumping. But I think everyone made sure that he was ready for this. And I think he's an interesting one of the double fingerprints. Well, I'm going to wrap this up with you, Rory, by saying that on my iPad notes, my selection for this race. Is answer. Let's go. Maybe I should make something else though. Don't you dare. When we've teamed up, listen we'd love to see read along who's been in absolute staring for around 300 and he's had a tough week on today. And it'll be good to see him run on another solid race series. He's he was a very, very good horse as a as a bumper horse, and then he's just turned into just an ask a specialist. Since he's since he's gone chasing. And he'll be 14 in a couple of weeks time. But he seems he seems to enjoy himself as much as ever run badly at Warwick last time I, but again, taken away from us, and he just doesn't want this race. So he should bounce back. But no, it's a case of let's go. Another for the looking 63 answer who kaluki, if you talk to, will hook you up at a roundabout 9th 8 in and around there. So they'll match sky bets price, but you're gonna you're gonna get around about that. Assuming that you will have gone completely bonkers and steamed in. Goshen makes his handicap debut I should say over jumps and we'll just briefly touch on this one already. The three 35 that has got this will be also live on ITV four it is I was saying to see off error, it's quite bizarre that maybe it's not bizarre. Maybe it's just the lessons of racing that you've got a horse in goshen. Tritonic and metier. All of whom had such big reputations and such exciting performances on the track. And they are double figure priced horses for this race where no ordinary Joe is your favorite, having been well gambled on for the great wood. So very briefly. Who's going to win? I don't know what to make of course at the moment. He flattered last time out. Interestingly, ruby Walsh thought he wanted stepping up a three miles and someone could Garry more who was horrified by the notion he said. He's not a boat, you know. Maybe he's been an angel problem. Juveniles struggle. More.

"Paisley park has had a comeback and they're very bullish about his second start. How serious is is this issue. And is it a case of you have to take it on individual basis because the things to say about. This is an declare. Marcus seeing all of the racing but he was away marks overall points is. He's too short in the market therefore liam and that's from professional beshir his mind that makes logical sense. Obviously he is not run anywhere near form and as a very valid. Excuse for that he's finished ninety-seven links tailed off and poor fellow is is in desperate is in a desperate state and i don't like to see this. This is this is not. This is not nice to see for. The moore's i would prefer to see gosh and be able to go and perform and show was what he can do. And if that's win this by twenty lengths or finished third then so be it but at least we get to see it instead. Those more questions about what might have been or what might be. So how serious is Fibrillation heart and how serious is it for his season as you say it really depends Obviously is gonna defibrillator halt. We have noticed who was extend. Today's if it's reset itself like paisley pause his shoe the next day after he was found to have after as huddle and i mean it's only holes bleeds you have a scale of how they fled or if they're gonna hold in that tendon you have a scale of how bad that is you know. Obviously we do not know to what extent goshen cautions issue has has surfaced too but the biggest concern i have with this is at least pacey part. I know the plan was because he recovers himself from his defibrillation heart that they were planning on bringing him back in the spring to see him To to get him back on the truck again and are we started this song. The some reported last season. I actually thought in some ways. It's probably a blessing in disguise that he didn't have that because it's given him no sorry. I need to talk to forget about that. About experience in this day is huddle but also a fulsome not to just relax and completely set himself right again. The thing with goshen knows his first hurdle race the season. they just happened and you haven't necessarily got the luxury now. All enforced break in which to properly assess him to give yourself the time to to get him back to you. Know sort of equilibrium gas to them breaking the amounts again for his next to have been backed where he is i mean. I don't know his retool stephen packing but if he's got to the patients or if he wants to run the whole soon as it seems as soon as he's given the thumbs up by the vet so not the one so blinding i could think to. This is against talking about on the previ- posted this weekend. Because the amount of times. I've been burned by what i perceived to be a talk juvenile taking not step up into open. Company is a world apart for them the amount of time. I've thought this is an absolute well. This is going to be the next five year. Old twin the champion hurdle i know how for the last year but this year we another one on an as mark says about the the stone improvement he has to found to even match strides veterans on was huge. And i just wonder if they on the back will consider see things. Happening to flat runs posing him away. If i'd put him away for the wind it's completely having forget about this because you could see. He was hanging horrendously right throughout the race themselves. Today he wasn't happy at any stage. And i would tell them away maybe bring him back for his spring campaign and it might even be a blessing in disguise. He misses this four slash five year. Old season truly might miss getting the experience. But it's such a tough season for them in general and it's not something that i'd like to see a quick turnaround with and i'd most like see what pays the park's hard and have a really big break to assess the situation. I completely got themselves back to where they work is is not a quick fix the model war

Fading Memories: Alzheimer's Caregiver Support
Avoiding Memory Care And Staying in Your Home
"With me, today is Rosellas Peel. We're going to talk about her book Mike and Mi. Mike was her husband or talking about living at home with Alzheimer's. which a lot of people are dealing with right now, so thanks for joining me Rozelle. Thank you Jennifer. It's fun to be here looking forward to the conversation. Awesome. Thank you, so tell me a little bit about your husband. I Oh, Gosh, you know you get a wife talking about their husband. We could go on forever, but he was a great guy. He lived till age seventy six. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in two thousand and two died in two thousand eleven and. He'd been in law enforcement for many years. Not Fortunately, he brought a good sense of humor into this illness with them and. Figured out how he could maintain up pretty pleasant attitude that was huge for both of us. It's definitely important. I've learned over the last two years of podcasting that one. There's a huge difference between spouses that are caregiving and adult children who are caregiving. Yes, my mom always said I. Don't want to be a burden to you. Girls Right Right. loops and I have to say you know. When he first got the diagnosis, he was pretty grumpy for awhile. It actually took a while to bring that back around. You say months. Months and then we kind of resolve that one day in the yard and we have this real honest conversation that he was concerned about leaving neon our home, and so we said well. Let's I think to this at home. We'll just see how skulls and he made a a real definite decision. Right? Then he said well. Let's get on with it, and you really had an attitude change, which was a blessing for both of us. Will definitely living with fears is not good and. Alzheimer's is fearful enough and if you think that maybe you're loving, spouse is gonNA dumped in some some place. Which I don't I've never met anybody that's done that. But. I think it's a legitimate concern. A lot of people have while could see being grumpy and I just realized was his concern. Mine was worried about what he get lost when he car keys will get. Hurt, would he know me? At the end of so really had two different agendas, and I didn't realize it till we had that heart heart top, and then we just kept moving year by year to see how this worked out, it turned out. We were able to stay at home. What kind of things did you guys do made that possible? Oh Goshen oh! I was thinking about that and I think. tuning in to him and who he was was a big deal. I think we learned how to handle anger. You know and that was a pretty positive thing to know how to do that. It was kind of thinking of key points. You know that might be helpful for people especially not staying at home so. I think the anger. Issue was important I think. Me Learning that I can still be a wife and a caregiver out was another one which I wasn't sure of. And then I think the other one that became just huge is that he continued snowy till the end of life, and I didn't know any of those things where possible when we started. That last when I had a great fear that went on me as time went on I could do this, but when he didn't know who I was that was going to make it a little bit. So he, he can't. He remembered your actual relationship. The entire time out. That was kind of an amazing thing to me i. think that happened because we did lots of little things that help that and couple of those things that helped out a lot. Is I came back to our wedding album? You know that was a good thing to do telling stories and reminding him of you know. Our stories than what we did in who we were literally I would take our wedding rings in Clink. Come together to just you know kind of say. Hey, we go together. And that was helpful so back to those memories was a big thing, and then I think actually staying in our home was helpful. Just be in our home at all the same things here. We had the family photos. The people coming by who your him. All those things you know kept him on track with who we were and. We were lucky that way. I didn't know if that would happen or not. Matter of fact is kind of funny. I talked to a caregiver Sabina the last year of life. We were in the kitchen, talking as she was going out the door and she said I. I said I can do this as long as Mike Still. No, so I am! That's my greatest fear is what s going to be light and she? She, said well. That doesn't always happen and I went what I mean. I was into this nine years, and I had no idea that he could still me, and actually part of my background is an RN and guarantee educator couple relationship person, so I knew a lot, but I had no idea even nine years later that maybe he would. Still we end up so I I liked. Let other people know that's possible.

C. news crime and terrorism analyst Brad Garrett good morning Brad good morning Greg what we know about this what was the motive of these two well Carlos Guzman was the was the former chairman of Nissan quite wealthy the lived in Tokyo was charged with some issues involving under reporting his salary and some other things the Japanese lock them up officially released him on house arrest it is home but did he hired this former green beret by the name of Michael Taylor and Michael Taylor son Peter who have a security business in Boston and they orchestrated this elaborate escape plan that involved multiple trips to Japan and other places but basically they placed goes in on a bullet train in Tokyo and took it to Osaka had a private plane already pre staged in also a case about the size of what you put a large speaker of like from a concert like a rock concert they secreted Goshen inside the case took off with the private jet flew to Istambul change private jets and include the case and goes in on to Beirut Lebanon where he is a citizen it's very elaborate I mean simplistic it it there's a lot of moving parts here but it's you know it's it's almost like one of those sort of spy thrillers that you might see in a movie well they got caught that's interesting to see what lengths they went to to get this thing

New online platform might provide hope for Los Angeles art galleries struggling during COVID-19
"It is tough to see art in person when virtually all in person gatherings have been canceled you're relegated to seeing work online which you have to admit isn't really the same thing so what does that mean means art galleries are hurting because sales are way down some of those galleries could even close their doors for good but a new online platform that is the brain child of LA art dealer Jeffrey died chin name you may be familiar with in the art world is offering a glimmer of hope for local galleries and for the artists whose work they exhibit our art insider and greater LA regular contributor Lindsey Preston's Abbas is editor in chief a contemporary art review Los Angeles she's here to talk about it hi Lindsay Hey Steve before we get on to this new platform I guess can you give us a broad overview of what's what's the state of LA art galleries right now are they making any sales at all you know it's honestly a bit of a mixed bag from who I've talked to obviously as you said it not being able to see the working person is making a pretty big impact and and a lot of these exhibitions are kind of on hold or had to close early and a lot of galleries have reported that you know they're having to lay people off and even facing closure there was actually just an LA times article by Caroline Maranda that came out were they surveyed thirty five galleries and twenty five percent said that they might close as a result of this but other galleries I've spoken to are doing okay so it's a bit it's a case by case I'd say I do want to know about this new platform though I mean how is it different from what galleries and some art fairs are already doing online because you know we've seen that you know this this sort of coalescing of of galleries yeah I think when you first hear about it you're like okay what's going to make this different and unique but the really cool things so this was initiated as you said by Jeffrey Deitz who has spaces here in LA and also New York and he kind of had this idea and he quickly assembled an operating committee of about fifteen or so galleries and then they got sixty LA galleries on board so this is really a home grown operation dates you know for industry that sometimes can be a bit competitive it's really inspiring to see them all come together for a joint effort the goal unlike you know art fairs like art Basel or things like that that have gone online is really to support the diversity of of the LA art scene and a range of gallery sizes from tiny you know artist run spaces all the way up to the big guys well look I mean let's talk about this bigger galleries if if everybody's in competition even the small diverse is the the larger ones I mean why is it in their interest to help out the smaller struggling spaces do you think the larger galleries are acknowledging that effort that the small galleries put in to really feed what they're doing so it's almost like it's like the farm system in baseball right like minor league teams like helping out the major league teams right yes we need a sports reference that's perfect yes the smaller galleries often are in this mode of discovering young artists giving them their first shows kind of building their career you know some of these bigger galleries like the Goshen you can't just walk in and ask for a show and if they haven't already heard of you they're not gonna show you you know so it's really key that the small galleries kind of feed into the larger ones and it's really cool that the big ones are acknowledging that the smaller galleries are much more vulnerable in this time and they need to support them right how's it gonna work I mean if you if you see something on the platform that you like can you just buy it I mean do you added to your cart and then check out I believe how it will work as a site will always point back to each gallery's website to kind of close the deal or make the sale also through the site you can then finds that galleries contact and reach out to them directly and the goal is that one is featured on the scholar platform also nearer especially ones were able to kind of go back to galleries again that what's on this platform will near exhibitions that are actually at the gallery

Broadly your research interests and focus so that we have a little bit of the context out of which this paper comes so I come interest within the algorithms in learning so this particular nerves paper. belongs High level which is called the high dimensional Obama's. Learning the idea. Here is that historically every machine learning algorithm needs to make some assumptions assumptions about the model where the data comes from so in some sense very roughly speaking every algorithm could could be viewed as a data fitting methods. You're trying to feed the data to model now. The issues that this assumption about the data coming from a model of a given type is very crucial so and typically do not want your algorithm to overfeed to this assumption in the says that in this assumption is that exactly through but if it's approximately through you want your algorithm to still work and unfortunately entire dimensional sailings. We realized about five years ago. This actually not the case even a very tiny deviation from the assume model could make the rub the machine learning algorithm very fragile so we in decided that okay we need to rectify his developed methodology to have robust learning algorithms for high dimensional problems. And so when you talk about high dimensional problems and perturbations are you thinking about things like the adversarial examples types of problems that we are familiar with where you've got an image high dimensional and you apply some some noise to it so that's a great question I was. I was expecting this question exactly to to throw a difference so these types of recital examples also some type of robustness the question type of buses but somewhat difference. Learn the one I'd like to discuss in particular in the certain adversary robust setting. What you have is if you train you train your network on some images right and then you perturb those images. In a way that's imperceptible to humans and see how the how the model learn performs. We have learned. That's actually under Boston. We need to do something to make it. Robust so the participations in the recital bus setting take place up test time so you train with a bunch of clean data and then you want to test on a set of corrupted data so the sending over Bosnia least with respect to this line of work is something that's called tests diamox. What you actually train on corrupting data. These two are related. So these two notions of Obama's isolated but they're also quite a bit different and you said they're called test time adapts. Yeah but the data is perturbed in training. So this is a cold time. Docs got what I'm GonNa talk about the It's called trading diamondbacks. Okay right so let me give you an example like the most basic example of that. I expect anyone could could understand with just a little bit of bug so if I give you samples like ID samples from public distribution. Like Goshen. And I ask you to find the expectation that mean value offer with distribution whatever samples. Come from let's say in in one dimension than what would you do to find the main value? Yeah you'd some them and divide by the number of samples you have. Yeah that's what that's about sir. Gold sort of empirical mean and we know that it works right. Unfortunately though if one of the summers they give you is not drawn from the distribution that you are strongly it was. It's out liar. Then the average doesn't work anymore was the betrayal far from the tool mean. It's not going to convert through mean even if you take infantryman samples. So what are we doing this case so for the one dimensional saving is known for like I duNno? Essential in statistics. So he still taking the average. You're taking staffing with the skull. The median. Okay. So we know that the media is robust to outliers and it's optimally robust for one dimensional problems right. Lie merging a generalization with this problem too high dimensions so now observing one dimensional points. You're observing high dimensional points every observation that you have is high dimensional. Let's say the dimensions and you want to do the same thing. You want to actually compute the expected value of the corresponding distribution now in the case of polling data. You will do exactly the same thing that you did. In the one dimensional case you would sam all the samples and the divide by the number of the samples so this is the umbilical meaning high dimensions and in the case of clean. Data it works. Now the difficulty is actually generalizing this dimensional and be mean when you actually have. Let's say ten percent of your of your samples being arbitrary. I would liars in this case. Unfortunately there is not an easy solution as taking the media meeting because the media in a high dimensional scenario isn't wall defined or because of the number of outliers you have. Let's these are great questions. So there are many ways to define north of a medium high dimensions for example. One thing that you could do is look at their coordinate individually and calculating the median. Coordinate and giving the dancer unfortunately this is not gonNa work they gonNA work is because you have many dimensions and in some sense. The noise can accumulate across dimensions. So if you let's say even a one percent of outliers then the answer you're going to get at. The end is going to be very large. In the worst case would actually depends on. Who would actually scale with the number of dimensions? And this is something that you can avoid. We know that you can avoid that if you look at like information theoretic bounds. But we didn't know how avoided with the computational efficient algorithm with a method that you can actually ran all right so what we did for years ago with a number of great golfers is we developed the first methods that is actually robust for estimating tied immeasurable distribution to constant number of outliers. So even if you have. Let's say twenty percent about liars and no matter. How highly dimension is the algorithm around sufficiently and gives you an accurate approximation of what's the general flavor or shape of this algorithm? I see so many versions. Maybe they easiest want is about Sort of detecting and removing the consequential outlines so we are in a high dimensional setting so the most sort of knives thing to try to do is detect out liars and remove them and after you do the venue just the output V. The men of the rest I will be the ideal methodology to solve the problem. They show is that this is impossible. We can't prove that it is impossible to actually detect the outliers in dimension setting. So what do we do so the next thing to try deuce okay? Maybe I cannot detect a remove. All the outliers. Maybe I contacted. Remove the ones that If I kept the data sets then they would actually skew the appeal coming by a lot. Turns out that this is something that you can do by using spectral move

Bank of England keeps rates on hold ahead of UK election
"And enhances the Bloomberg senior U. K. economist is in our London studio to preview the bank of England policy decision Dan thanks for being with us with Britain heading into election there's pretty much nothing they can do at this point I would imagine the morning sun yeah that's absolutely right I mean we we expect the buying to stand Pat today keep rates on hold we expect a unanimous decision as well the the focus the fix is reading and be on the full costs how big a downgrade to the growth outlook cool banking will make we expect them to be to push them for costs next year and year officer and will save that's going to push them on the inflation forecast as well but really it's a steady she got a meeting as you say the political backdrop is so uncertain of the bank is just it's gonna be studies you got yeah if I'm a businessman in the UK do I invest in the business to a stockpile I mean there is so much uncertainty doesn't beg for a rate cut yeah it's it's moving well the debate to the UK's moving in that direction business investment has has essentially slumped over the past eighteen months and the anything the any parts of the economy that's carried on trucking along it's been the persistence hima now the debates about rate cuts it's a difficult one because what we know you is coming down the line and you've you've seen this on the headlines this morning is that fiscal policy is going to be leasing them sensually quite substantially next year and beyond when we get a new government say you've got a you've been weakness in business investment and that that could potentially turn around if the bricks if there is a profoundly a brexit deal then you've got this leasing fiscal policy so right now yes there is the service and see but potentially if the election is able to break the deadlock there is potential for a bit of upside in the economy we think next year what what's what's the inflation outlook right now and we have to take into account that there are different reasons of different types of inflation of those related to currency in those related to to demand absolutely Sir the main inflation's running below the bank of England's two percent target and we actually think it's like stay there certainly in the near term and potentially even next year that's mainly as a result of what we think will be a slightly stronger pounds and that says you mean that that there is a brexit deal but yeah at the moment stay on the line to moan underlying inflation I should say in the economy is still quite tepid it's it's picking up wage growth is picking up but it's not at the levels you'd expect to see in the medium term that would see them for inflation hit two percent consistently at a two and three year horizon is is everybody on the same page at the bank of England you mentioned you didn't expect any dissent or anything like that but with how would you break down the potential doves and hawks so the moments we think as you rightly said that we think they'll be a unanimous decision today what you've seen recently there is a slight breakout and in the toughest direction but both Michael Saunders in Goshen plea they they've been talking about the potential for rate cuts even if no you deal brexit is avoided and even if there is a brexit deal and that comes on the back of the point that you made early at the end it's possible that even if there's a brexit deal business investment doesn't rebound and they all say clearly worried about the global backdrop and the has a very economical to me Sir weak global economy spills over to the U. K. say at the moment unanimity but going forward there's potential for for splits to account with anything that's right okay let's leave it with the next question what's your base case for a brexit to tread lightly with this one so you it said with the not a huge degree of confidence but I thought I'd say all base case is the you first have to look at the election and the polls at least at the moment suggests that Boris Johnson will return to power okay possibly with a with a small majority that then leads us to getting his brexit

Trump says EPA to issue notice to San Francisco on homeless
"Night the trump administration talking about environmental things the trump administration plans to deliver a notice of environmental violation to San Francisco over its homelessness problem president trump said late Wednesday the notice would come from the environmental protection agency this according to the Wall Street journal he said to waste specifically use needles in storm sewers is contributing to ocean pollution it's a terrible situation that's in Los Angeles and in San Francisco Mr trump told reporters on Air Force One on his flight from California to Washington and we're going to be giving San Francisco there in total violation we're going to be giving them a notice very soon they have to clean it up we can't have our cities going to hell. in a statement the San Francisco mayor London breed so the city has a source system that runs affected Lee keeping debris from reaching the bay or the specific Goshen don't know if he was talking about storm sewers or the sanitary source there right at at this at this moment so that is just a interesting that the you know but you know you you look at it and you we know that the EPA's involved in everything these days correct sure yeah everything yep well and you know that you look at a number of items that the Obama administration EPA. put into place over the top. stuff that they put in place over the years. it would take. good thing it I'll just say this it's a good thing president that president trump is going to be in office we believe for twenty eight maybe thirty two years. descended totally off the rails because it's going to take at least that time to roll back you know a number of them that what he won't even in that amount of time he wouldn't get half of them roll back. because there are so many items. on that list of of of EPA rules along the way and it was just maddening. which is

Rising dollar knocks pound and euro
"Can use a single sentence you need to know I continue to think that cutting is not necessary in may prove to be a mistake as time goes by will speak to that strategist here in a moment Mr just a vote of alliance burns dean opposed to what we saw yesterday I love it the economist Francine request said she said it was a bizarre meeting and that really captured what John and I observed as Michael McKee was in the press conference yesterday the bazaar move John is dollars strange this morning is a key story yeah that is the continuation of the thing from yesterday the shock absorber in G. ten right now is the US dollar euro dollar breaking down to one ten one ten thirty three cable very briefly with one twenty handle one twenty one fifteen and there are now many watching your away from the brick city cable dynamic governor currently speaking now of the bank of England meeting Bloomberg surveillance this morning brunch but cone Resnick checkout business of baseball and original MLB video series exploring the business side of America's pastime visit Cohn Resnick dot com slash MLB corner as a kid visor re assurance tax and we think charisma is well Germany you bring in Gershon here with that fiery first sentence in his research we love having guests on the show let's bring in Goshen distance out alone spends thing co head of fixed income question just what me through your initial reaction to the last twenty four hours your morning jog your morning Tom that was a bizarre bizarre press conference I think I was on your show a couple weeks ago we talked about how you know maybe Alison how higher drugi to do his his press conferences because that guy's a maestro in terms of how we present thing so let it again in the house is not a very polished speaker he was he struggled big time yesterday that the government's messy speak to his intelligence but that he got to consideration but the thing the other two things are the fed is confused here it's just not clear why they're doing what they're doing and the the do you look at that against the backdrop of the longer term issues in the fed there's a lot of debate in the fed now about what is monetary policy supposed to be right does the Phillips curve even work anymore it certainly doesn't appear to work at least in the U. S. right how much are they willing to move in terms of overshooting in either direction how much they care about asset prices these are fundamental questions that haven't been answered so they're trying to make like a cyclical move within a secular confusion as to what they're really trying to accomplish over the long run thank goodness in a mid cycle adjustment what is a mid cycle adjustment made to you with the team at alliance burns thing right now well I had I we get you to think you know it when you look back at the school if all the noise in the market place you look back years from now and of those twenty five basis point either caught or hike really mean much in the real economy it's kind of around the area so it's more psychology than anything and you know it's it's we could see the think if they were going to call it it's going to end up being seventy five a hundred basis points something meaningful obviously not all at once but you know this this twenty five basis points were not for we're going to go I think it what's interesting is that everyone talk about now you know what's the data going to be starting of course with with payrolls tomorrow it's not just the data I think they're looking at it's also the flow of information and and the political scene what's going to happen on trade in the next couple of months what's gonna happen more globally globally political gonna happen the M. countries to go to insulation is one of the great doctrines it we've got the idea of goods disinflation maybe all right goods deflation and we've got service sectors the ability of a higher inflation are you in any kind of a camp that service sector inflation begins to diminish and come down towards the lower goods inflation well I think we're in we've been in a kind of secular change for for how the economy works for a long time that room because inflation and one could argue has been coming down for a very long time pending how you measure it and it's going into into service inflation I think inflation is a very hard thing to measure certainly the by the measures the fed is using it's not high enough and that could be a possible reason why they're trying to do this but again you know it if we don't expect to see major this of this this card is not going to change you know main street economy such that we're gonna see a big change in inflation why they do it is I'm struggling you know I think the best the best reason you can look at is if you look at kind of where the tips market has has really that were break even have gone there gone way down and check it yesterday but no one for the ritual of one point five on the ten year to pick back up to one point six one point seven break even rate and you know that's just that's below what they think the normal level is at a time when the economy is strong so if you think about it that way real rates were let's call it sixty seventy basis points and given how worried they are maybe they thought that was too high that's the best that desperation I can have the other the more cynical explanation as they're responding to the political winds and so you know they don't want to be seen as it I think the the I want to say that the fed ex central banks in general worldwide I think they have a lot more control over cycles but we actually do suggestion what does that mean for the yield curve right now because yesterday we saw some significant planning on Tuesday tens little bit of state Miceli this morning just how you guys position Goshen with that in mind at the moment yeah I think if you look at the you look at the totality of what happened yesterday equities lower the Kerr flatter as you site and the dollar much stronger that's exactly the opposite of what you want to cut rates actually tightening financial conditions so yeah what does it mean I I I I think it's a very hard to predict this in the short term I think investors continued the theme we've been talking about for awhile have to continue to expect lower returns across most asset classes going forward and the other I don't think this in itself changes much within the key is going to be not so much with a cut in September which I think clearly from the press coverage yesterday you have to conclude it's a coin flip because I'm not sure they know what they're going to do but or is this just a mid cycle kind of whatever that means of twenty five basis points or they're going to continue to cut we're gonna go closer to the old town of one to one and a half percent level wondering down Kirsten to a new terminal value a new terminal value for GDP for interest rates maybe the glide path of what the fed does where they have to bring it under two percent inflation target I mean is that really what all this job openings about well okay it's hard to say right consensus has been that rates are too low for a long time and it seems see begin now are saying yeah we're going to be in this apartment able to use one of our competitors for either the new normal wear just you gonna have loads ever heard that phrase me either I don't know that it I don't know how smart those people were but good morning but look at I think you know the we we're we're always so confident in in where we think markets are going to go now we think things in the low forever we really just don't know in the long term and you know it the it was it was less than a year ago less than a year ago we're sitting here how many times the figure the height the ten years on a four percent and now where the other way we should be a little bit humble yet activists the hunch your TV show just the other week it is the only industry where people can be wrong again and again and again and people still want to hear what they have to I remember some big name saying that once we cross three to sixty to sixty five on the ten year treasury that was it for the secular bull market guessing just a final question for you I hear on the grapevine the U. like loans at the moment can you just give me some clarity on that well hi I think that you know people investors bought loans for all the wrong reasons well they thought the yields are going to go up and we are we to bond how long do honestly outperform other forms of credit when when when rates go up and now that rates of man and no one expects rates to go up to a one to one point I mean floating rate debt anymore and that's also wrong in fact there's been some like thirty five straight weeks without flows from that the class that actually has on the way underperformed other parts of credit and there's some more value opportunities there so you know we're yeah we have more loan exposure in our broad funds and we've had in probably a decade this is an excellent person to say so thank you with this you can see him on the real yield it's important property of Bloomberg very soon afternoon maybe even called the real dollar maybe we need a foreign exchange program this week the way things are going good for the strength is well I want to go back to your one ten thirty eight it is really remote and we we've talked enough about it because of the brexit focus and sterling but nobody euro all one nine and your would be extraordinary just allows the last twelve months in the broken at this really tight trading range of in stock in it around one twelve between one twelve one of fourteen I would say for the most of this year Tom and now starting to break out and not with all the weakness with breaking out with all the strength and I don't know how many people were looking for that a month ago got into what they thought would pay anything cycle from the federal reserve shot of the David bloom he just we see in others that have talked of dollar stability in even a dollar strength I'm looking at the first strategist he hasn't tweeted on dollar yet this morning the wealth in Chile well he's he's open about his goods are doing something to Kentucky Senate comes today but we know the press got is still some foreign exchange I I can't imagine again when I look at their the simple D. X. Y. the mathematics of the Bloomberg D. X. Y. is excellent but the it's one ninety eight point eight four is a stronger U. S. dollar this is
