"Would you think two things? One I loved it. I mean could you imagine being a player? We've we all know from all the players and all the media guys. Gordon Wilson always said. When you when you go into, Toronto has a media guide. You know the the hated lease he said it's the worst worst town to go and we're city to go in to try and do normal interviews and try and lineup guys and all that stuff you said they're they're almost. Gordon will be pissed I guess about this let's forget I said Gordon Okay. A friend of Mine Stevie. Any said they're almost they're almost obnoxious about about trying to get interviews. Locker room access stats, notes, and all that stuff. You said, they're just there's kind of snobby about it. All you know so. That that. You know if you're a player, it's it's the same deal. Right? Toronto is over the top if you if you play of with the exposure. With the constant microphone in your face the fans. Torching you absolute torching you if you play back game. Big overreaction all the time fans this game was no exception. Okay. The game was no exception. Simmons obviously said some derogatory bottom. So one I liked I. liked it. I like the kids really what he was saying is. PISS OFF FUCK I in their heart-to-heart Steve. You know how many players would the really WANNA. Say What? What Austin Matthews did well, let's get some clarity on what that derogatory thing was to reset that for those who missed that story it's probably a few weeks old now but during the whole Kobe Pause Steve Simmons came forward and. That Austin Matthews had had a positive diagnosis and that's why Matthews was super pissed off. It wasn't just some random assessment of the guys hockey. He basically said you know I'm I thought that was unethical of you to do that is he right? You know the first first and foremost Steve is we got a pandemic going. Okay. We got pandemic going. Why should sports be the exception of not being able to to call guys out or at least a name people who have covet and my reason is because it's A. It's contagious. Because I, get it if I came near you, you know if you don't tell me. How are you going to stop this virus? If you don't let people know who has it but no one does that like it literally doesn't happen. Should though it should it should. That's a fair point. Yeah. Your Mailman Steve. Got Kovin. They're. GonNa go to him and say Okay Gimme a route Gimme your your your mail route, and we need to get a hold of everyone and say, look you need to test. It's not like everybody around this guy isn't being notified. What we're talking about is a national newspaper columnist giving it to the world telling everybody in the world about it and that's The unethical part if he were to, he had it everybody around would have been informed. It's not like they would have been keeping that a secret, right the the other side is what you want. You want to keep things low key steve if you're a player during the playoffs okay. You don't WanNa Cause Distraction you WANNA be on time you WANNA give sort of. You know non-conflicting answers to stop you WanNa give pat in full when they ask you a question and so I think if I'm the coach of the leafs, I'm pulling Austin aside going okay. Knock it off with that Shit right now. Okay. We're down one game we've. Got To win three here. For you to. Go. After that guy that timing Austin terrible terrible timing. Okay. That Sabre Right now, and you're down one nothing in a very short series. Your team is you know not hanging by thread yet they will be if they lose the next one, but it does at least create the optics that his head is slightly distracted I. I don't disagree with them though it's as if you wouldn't want to kicked out media, guys Terry Jonsman prolific sports writer for the sun chain has been around a longtime. He makes it a sole mission, Steve, his sole mission, every article that he writes to come from a different side. Okay. And that ninety percent of the time it's going to be very unpopular with the player, right? He's an incredible writer. He's a great guy. They threw in a hot tub one time. There was so pissed that the other Yeah Steve Simmons has that same kind of thing. Right? He's the same kind of. Not, a contrarian, but he doesn't mind taking an unpopular opinion of things and so yeah, he gets a lot of flack for that. If all things were equal though and it was just some rank and file writer, you never heard of, you might cut him some slack a little bit here at the start of covid. It's not like there's any hard fast rules about covid. We've only known Kobe existed for the last few months here, and now at arrives now this. Is All of a sudden. There's a stigma to telling people that that the guy's got a covert nineteen test that to me seems weird when we so freely about pro athletes tell the world he's got a blown out knee he's got a separated shoulder. We don't give it a second thought and the only reason to not put covert out there is because there's a stigma they're embarrassed or something, and I don't think anyone should be like look at the stats on. Cova. Like millions of people have come down with this thing it's no more embarrassing to me any way than than than announcing that someone's got the common cold or that someone's got a flu in, they're going to miss a game. There's no stigma that I don't think too bad voice that we have to say this. This is a virus that people pick up by coming near. You know again. I totally disagree with that I'm really sorry you know that that you have covert but you need to tell people I just don't understand why anybody. So sensitive about you told people I have cova it I don't I don't think there's any any embarrassment to that, but it's it's I. Guess at the end of the day if that's what he wants, it probably should have been kept private but I just don't understand exactly why it's so sensitive to be honest it's like it's like. You guys who? This is terrible but you know child molestation. victimisers when they go to jail to get, you know to go to court they are found guilty, and then they get the get out of jail right. Onto, a list this guy lives in your neighborhood. Right. Is that a is that an infringement of your privacy? Maybe. Too Bad too bad. You know. And but they don't make a national international announced voted they tell the people that are affected immediately around them and that's the same with Cova if I got it Steve if I got it, I would I would tell you and I think Austin Matthews probably did like he probably everybody in that room would know everybody in his family would know his neighbors would know so but no, that's not an unreasonable take. It's just not how they're doing things right now. So it's going to be interesting in back to your thought about the leafs and and some of your. Former NHL Bunnies who talk about how hard that place to play is like I think that would be as big a reason as any if you're piling it up, Harold Ballard whatever the whole nine yards I think that that level of pressure that level of. Magnifying. Glass of they haven't Toronto as big a reason as any that they haven't won a cup since nineteen sixty seven maybe maybe was at Bryan McCabe who played in Toronto got traded to Florida or damp. Yup that's right and his lawyer his comment after was I found it impossible. Live a life there. Something like that. Something like that. He said, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. And had nothing to do with coaching or other players or or a bad record with the team. Or anything like that. It was like this thing is unbearable man it's overwhelming to plane the town and he was completely honest about it. So I do believe it's different. I do believe it's different than you know some people say all shot up. You're just crying the blues because. These, guys have one shit. You know they've won shit in the last fifty years. Yeah. So. We're looking for physical distancing of a different kind in.

"Going to have problems that you can't control. So what you really have to do is manage the problems that you can control. And, this is a problem that they are going to manage into a bigger issue than they needed to be. But I think I. Know What's going on here so I had a long conversation with a friend of mine. Who used to cover baseball or sorry? It's still covers baseball that I know. And he said that. If you look back at Donald, fears, history. One of the things he considers, the biggest betrayal of the players was the steroid testing. And yes, I know that steroid testing testing positive for steroids is not the same as getting coverted, but I'm talking about life philosophies here, not comparing the two. When he was had of the Players Association in Baseball. They agreed to do anonymous testing and the whole thing wise. It was supposed to be anonymous. And names got out and one of them was David Ortiz. And the players association was furious about that. They said their trust was violated. Players got tagged. They didn't think it was right and they were angry about it. and. He said to me I guarantee you that. If the players felt they wanted this to be private. He was gonNA fight for that and I think that's exactly what happened here is that? The NBA Russell Westbrook the other day. He has it. He announces it. Now not every NBA players felt that way. Some of them have said. I don't want anyone to know, but others have come forward. To this point as we tape this podcast, my gravelly voice eight fifty am eastern on Wednesday morning. No NHL player has willingly come out and said they had it. Now I. Think I know about ten to fifteen guys have had it 'cause at one time one of the things I was trying to determine wise. People Gordon Wilson whose the radio Voice of the senators he had it, and he agreed to donate his plasma to help, and that's one of the things I was working a story on I, was asking people if you test positive for? Will you donate plasma and we could look at it in a positive way. That way and I don't believe there's any stigma in this I. I think the idea that there's a stigma stupid, but you know people feel differently and nobody wants to do it. Nobody has agreed to talk about it and I'm not going to pressure anyone. I think it's your choice like Jeff. You've heard me use the line before i. know like anyone telling me what to do so I'm not going to tell anyone else what to do. You know I've made my request. If people have said no, said Hey, totally up to you and I don't i? Don't bother them I. Don't send them a billion tax. But for whatever reason in hockey, the players don't WanNa talk about it. They don't WanNa. Do it and I think fear fought hard to protect that and the League agreed, and that's why we are where we are and I do admit while I think the whole system doesn't work. This thing in Calgary now or you've got them split into two groups like you can't help, but look at that and say what's going on there back. Giving that whole thing is weird, and it's Fishy, but that's where we are right now. There's nothing the flames can do about it. It's just that's where we are. You know the one thing I will say though. Is that in a world where everybody puts everything on social, media? I do have an admiration for people who say no, you know. This is my business, not yours. Want to get to the Calgary flames here in a couple of seconds in that to group situation that we're seeing there will go through a couple of different teams here in a moment, but dovetailing the fit to play. Handle now for the catchall injuries or positive tests I'm wondering your thoughts on Jonathan Toews comments I'll read a moti here and as we all know Jonathan. Daviss is one of the most thoughtful guys in the NHL Although I. Think in this situation. We need to do a lot of reading in between the lines, but I don't want to bias jury before I read this to you quote. Does anybody really know how when people catch this thing? I think the best you can do is get good rest. Eat Healthy. Take care of your body kind of. Of Do the little things that lower your chances. What else can you do sitting around worrying about? It is just going to drive you crazy. I think the NHL has gone to great lengths to create a safe environment is far from perfect at the end of the day. Everyone has their own beliefs seeing where they stand with all this. It's up to you to really do the right thing to be respectful of others, but also take care of yourself. Elliott's so I, have a theory on this Jeff. I have been told by many many many people. That one of the most vocal players during the process of coming back to play. Was Jonathan Tapes? That he asked a lot of questions and other players said they really defended him. They said he was great. He asked relevant questions. He challenged whether or not this was really safe to play He. They said that. When you talk about star players standing up for other people he did that. He did that. He spoke up about issues he thought were important, and he asked questions he thought were important, and I know from the feedback I got that they were questions that other players felt were important. And I know that people really appreciate the questions. He asked he said at. A couple of guys told me at times. They think caves was a real pain in the bite for some of the people at the NHLPA, but it was from a place that had good intentions. If you've ever listened to tapes, talk if you listen to him on podcast. He's smart. He's very curious. He's obviously very concerned about his body, and how he takes care of his body, and and the kind of treatments, and the food eats and things like that. If you remember he had one of the most poignant statements about black lives matter very impressive instagram statement I. Think you have to look at the whole picture? And the blackhawks were one of the two teams when the Executive Board of the NHL players. Association and that's each team's representative. It's thirty one votes. When they voted to whether or not to accept the CBS right to play, it was twenty nine to two. And Chicago and Carolina. were. The two teams voted against it. But this is my theory. I think tapes willing to play, but I think he has a lot of questions about it. And at the end of the day the vote was to play, so he's here and he's playing. And when he talked about that, I think he was just like trying not to. To me and again, this is my opinion. I have not spoken to him. My opinion is he signatories saying I don't agree with this..

Predators driving around. And now CNN reports that over can't really take this on. But it wasn't over driver. The police in San Mateo, California have arrested and over driver who they say took his writers to the airport and logically assume that they were going to be out for a while. Let's see what we have here. Let's start off with this Hoover driver. You need to be careful with these oover drivers. Apparently, some of these were not all not all most of them are very good people, upstanding citizens. Gosh, you know, used to be a parent until you never get in a car with a stranger. Now, people are always getting cars with strangers yet. Never never meet with anybody that you've met on the internet and never get into car with a stranger. Saris? Come on man ears. Mike is in Rancho joining the show. Hello, mike. I'm good. Thanks. Until you you're right about the basketball thing, if you're into a you're watching the game, if you're not you're not gonna go, right? And some people just have a passing interest. Okay. What's the score? Okay. Thanks. So you know, what you're talking about the records. And I'm thinking to myself, you know, they're repressing the old classics. They found the mold and so like you can get a press of like a old Beatles album. It doesn't have a single scratcher his son. So now, if you save that albums back when you were kid, you know, it's it's terrible. It sounds bad. And and you can get a fresh precipice. How much is your now? Now. Yeah. I mean, if you've played this thing over and over and over until the fact that until the point that it's completely worn out. It may it's certainly not going to be worth as much. But I I don't know it could be as worth as much as the new records that they're printing up. Now, I really don't know. But I think it's really cool that the doing that by the way. But I still, but I still a fondness Mike for like a lot of mind. For instance, are our virgin copies. I mean, they've never even been on a turntable. So to me they're worth more because they've they were the originals and they've been around forever. But but yeah, I get your point. I mean, there's a lot of people who are listening vinyl, and they want that the old stuff, but they want brand new because of for every reason that you mentioned. Yeah. Yeah. Records. I mean, you play them. Listen to them. That's that's value. So I've got some new presses of some old Elms ahead. And when I play the old one, I can barely stand it because I you know, I played the crap out of them. And the new ones are just incredible. Great. And I think the vinyls even different they're using something heavier. So give me one that you give me one that you bought. That's that's a repressed that you had back in the day. The the miles Davis album with so what miles miles. Oh, yeah. Right. Right. Oh, great album too. Yeah. The fresh press is just a joy to listen to. Yeah. Thank you, Mike pushy eight that you know that some of those though. I don't know. If you go way back. Like some of the stuff like Adam thinking, Louis Armstrong, for instance, something like that some old time country, maybe some Bill Monroe. So that kind of stuff maybe some of the big band from me not that I wanna skip necessarily. But I kind of like the old crackles and pops in it some of it. I think it gives it to it adds some character. Abso- the ambiance to it. Yeah. I mean, it really does understand it's crackles and pops and things, but if I'm listening to some of that old stuff, I would really almost rather hear it on would where the hit off record than I would off of a, and you know, if I'm listening to it off a cassette. I want it to be a little bit muddy. Yeah. You probably gonna get that. Yeah. You know, just a a little muddy not crisp and clear just just a little money. Roberta Roberta's back. Sorry. Roberta. Yeah. I got. The cell tower. Yeah, I don't know out and talking about snap crackle and pop about my knees..
