"Founder of Cool House Um what is cool? Who has is an architectural inspired, very unique, Cool desert company really known for ice cream sandwiches. Let's have plants and bars sold from trucks are brick and mortars and distributed at 4000 grocery stores all around the country and wildly successful because you started only what Nine years ago, Right 77 9? Yeah, grown a lot since then. That's better. Let's talk about the journey. Did you always want to be an entrepreneur? You know, I looked back and I see the seats were being sown. But I don't think that I really It was kind of presented as an option. It kind of more got to it by default. But what's really exciting is I do a lot of like mentoring and you know, with younger and younger kids, and there's so much more aware of entrepreneurship, So I think that's really changing. And more people will have their sights set on that. Yeah, I find that to this chair to be the truth. The people the standard get out of college to the job. Nine. Five. Yeah, get a pension. It's kind of going away and then Yeah, I think he's going to turn it up. Yeah, thinking outside the box, and you know, there's just so much awareness about business how to start up and some more and more people are really doing their own thing. Ice cream. Why so my backgrounds, actually, architecture, I said for seven years, and I just became really interested in how to make architecture. More fun and accessible for people think anything cool should be accessible, Not the other way around. So I started playing around with using food to get people more engaged in the architecture of conversation, and I called it Farka texture. I went to Berkeley. So you know if you have to have, like a movement to manifesto, look there, and I just started playing around, you know, with what that could mean. And then my first job out of grad school was Disney Imagineering, and there Session head. So as part of like, lightening the mood of the office. I started baking cookies, making ice cream naming the combination after architects and it was literally comic relief for people who were being laid off. Sometimes the easiest things I love that Berkeley campus smells bookstore still open. I think I think it is. Yeah, I knew him. Always just regard is my little ice cream from people. Cigar flavored ice cream. Ugo Gordon Miller when you think, are you? Um um It seems like most people that are really successful. Follow their dreams, and they know something about me. It's easier that way. Yeah. Yeah, I definitely think so. I think you can also the dream commune, different things. So you know, I was going down this path of design, and then I realized in introducing this ice cream dialogue around architectural. It's still needed, you know, Packaging Design logo website, And so I still been able to apply a lot of those skills and be in the food business. Which is I mean, if I told my five year old self what I'm doing now at 33 like I'm a nice guy. From Lady Be like That sounds pretty good to me, and I know it's a dream job, and it's wildly successful as we said earlier, and you've been written up everywhere. Um, who's your favorite entrepreneur? That's a great question. I am a big fan of, uh, you know, I like Richard Branson a lot. I mean, he definitely, you know, talk about Ah, brand being an umbrella for so many things. I think that's a really great approach. Because then the world is short waster. You know you can go from, you know record label to airline to Cola to phone That may not all be successful, but that's kind of the entrepreneurs, right. You're allowed to fail to Richard Branson's name comes up in here more than anywhere really more than Steve Jobs. Yeah. How do you think that is? I think Richard Branson also seems like a pretty nice guy. You know, I don't know him personally, but I think that he is really I would say I'm you know for me, Steve. Jobs is, um, you know, definitely an icon. I think his style of how he made his you know, Mission happen is pretty brutal. Yeah, I see that. Thank you. So you know it could policy. I like to smile a lot, and you know, she thinks pretty happy and fun. So it's maybe just a different approach. What's what was the scariest thing about stepping out on your own? You know, I've been kind of going down this path, you know, studying architecture, undergrad and grad school. My dad's an architect. Actually, my dad's an architect, and my mom is an animator at Disney. I always thought they had the coolest jobs, but I want to do something totally different. And then my first job was architect at Disney, so I couldn't have been more like the two of them. But you know, you're sort of on this path and all of sudden, you say Whoa, I'm going to take a total left turn. You know, I bought this truck You know, off Craigslist for 2500 bucks with my personal credit card and doing this ice cream kind of vision. It was just so not that sort of, you know, going along this this idea that you have, that's very clear Cut, but I think you know 25 when I started the company, so you're pretty comfortable too brisk. At that point, So it's not like that overwhelmed me. I mean, I just sort of thought we had this vision. Not nothing to lose, you know? So Natasha case is our guest. You the CEO and founder of Cool House H A U s right. Like that. That spelling on that s O. Architecture and ice cream. What? What? What makes it good? Anyone obvious? No, not to me anyway. But what makes it like, So I think one thing is just with ice cream or with so many brands, folding in a whole other audience that you wouldn't expect you sort of think of Ben and Jerry's and rock and roll. I mean, they did that so well, it doesn't necessarily belong there. But the more you sort of integrated into that world and think of it at that, Like you know, the Woodstock like ice cream and show you are seeing all that You're okay and it pulls in this other world. You know, Architecture may not be as big of a reaches as you know, rock and roll, but we all are existing and spaces all the time. So it's just a great way to if people want to learn about architecture by the names of our flavors like Frank, Very mental ism. Richard Meier, 11 Louis Pecan, which is our bacon ice cream. Great If they don't learn about it, we're like no harm, no foul, but also for me. I think one of the biggest things that's come out of this is brands need design, and they need strong visuals. More than ever. So if you have that kind of orchids Texture. Mind you think about every little thing is gonna be designed. And how is that gonna tell story? It actually has been incredibly handy background for running a business. The only friends I've got a surprising it. Uh, surprisingly, people say no, immediately. You're working so hard that you don't have time for friends. Well, you'd be surprised how many friends I screamed at you. So if you find a solution for ice cream headaches Well, you know that does tend to plague the industry. To some degree, however, what I will Say is ice cream running so fast so fast And you want us from to be right around zero degrees, not like minus 10 because you start to taste things more. Your taste buds contains things better when it's not super, Super frozen..

"Well that was a fun night of hockey at the C. T. C. that courtesy of tsn. Gordon Miller with the call sends when at four three in overtime on artem Anisimov goal. A nice little chip play by Brady could chuck with three points on. The night is actually now three way tie for the sense scoring lead at thirty six points. It could chuck. Jj Pozo and Connor Brown game. Fifty nine and you're scoring leaders have only thirty six points. That's not real good but hands up viewers surprised even see thirty one old artem. Anisimov out there in a three on three setting the score on ice breakaway goal to win it yet. Pie Show in Tyler. Ennis also scoring for the sends Craig Anderson Stopped Thirty. Six shots is a big weekend. Very good in relief in the Toronto loss and good again against Dallas next says we hosting buffalo tomorrow February eighteenth. And I'd probably keep rolling with Anderson. See if anybody comes knocking for them with the trade deadline set for Thursday and as for the win to hell of a team the sends beat stars a thirty four nineteen and six and it's You know what it's great to see former head coach. Rick bowness rolling again in there on an interim basis and Also good to see way less effing blue jerseys in the crowd than we saw the night before that had to be some kind of C. T. C. infestation. Record all right. Let's get to our computing web pool for today because it involves your Edmonton oilers and they got a victory and the three on three as we record this. You're in fact you're delaying the recording of the show. So you can watch the end of the oilers. I was also proud. Well doubled my. I doubt you sent me a c note because I one hundred bucks off through the end of the football season so I threw it on the news. Today they were they were two to one underdogs so double d double the Hyundai Stevie. Thank you for that. It's pretty impressive. When you think about the fact without Connor mcdavid right now But I still like to to to one. That's that's not a bad bet. I think so. And they're rolling. They're playing they're playing. Well this line the the reason that everyone thought. Oh my God connors up. He's going to be back in a few days by the way. Connor mcdavid they said. Oh my God connors out. Who's going to pick up the slack and it's dry. Seidel nugent-hopkins in Yamamoto are. They might be setting the world on fire right now. Obviously they get way more than the normally would so I got the food? Got The pitch Stevie to get the playoff fever pitch going right now I do. I'm starting this. I'm starting to watch the standings now. I always look forward to them. But not the way I do when the sensor involved because they're not involved this just in listen Steve if they if they can win thirty in a role and everybody else goes a twenty five percent sends. Let's get to the web for Harvey Competing Web Pool. What do you think of Zack? Kassian of your Edmonton oilers. Getting seven games for kicking a guy with his skate blade. I think just in a policy. I mean you look at that particular. Play if you've seen the video it's kind of like he's lying on the ground and Eric sure neck is lying down as well. And he's Kinda taking time getting up into Cassius had enough of them and gives them a little sort of Bruce Lee leg kick and it wasn't like a sort of it it didn't even look like the player even felt it to be honest. He got on and got on with his life. Who's probably felt like him? Like a cross check or something like that and not even not even a very hard one but to me I would have no problem with the NHL Saying. Hey if there's any level of trying to make contact intentionally with another player with your skate. Blade is an automatic fifteen games. That's how I would do it. I was reading back about Zack. Kassian he's got a great great story because he had a a life that was spiraling out of control when he started in Vancouver when he was there with drugs and booze and women all sorts of stuff and he was a time bomb on the ice. See what he was. He was completely upside down his life. And it certainly cost him dearly when he was with. Vancouver and then. He turned his life around and he got sober. He got clean. He's like a hundred percent different guy and he was which which is a great story. This is the second time. Steve's been suspended and you fear fear that is going back into his own and I don't I don't mean drugs drugs and booze but the guy was wild man and I'm quoting a coach from Vancouver. Who who was managing him at the time and said the guy was just freaky out of control. You know right. So that's you never see that you never see that the only the only time I can ever remember kicking someone escape was have let the last time I remember it in. Ottawa and I thought have lots was worse. Actually I think that one would. Dublin should have got more to that was more of a way a punter would punk punt the football. Kind of like the to- I like. That's even more dangerous than than what cassie and did but I would throw the book at both of them and I would have if I'm running. Nhl Player safety. I've got an automatic in there. Take the gray area out of it if you intentionally trying to make contact with someone with your skate blade. It's an automatic fifteen games. Yeah yeah he's crazy is man. He's crazy is cassie and there are certain. There's sort of a like no defense against that right. The Guy sees it the show them the video it comes off. The is what the fuck was that. What was that you know? And generally their answers to be. I don't know I don't know I just I just lost my mind. And and if you're running a hockey team and this guy's a gunner right. He was playing on Connor's line and playing great. It's like okay. What's up with that. What's up with that dude? No doubt I mean. He's a and lots of suspension to this. Point is a first time scenario. But I think it's just you know it's one of those plays where he can make it black and white and just say hey. You decided that you're going to try and make contact intentionally. With another person with the escape we all know it can happen in unintentionally but this is so obvious that we just say okay. This is the number whatever it is. That number has to be more than seven in my opinion. But let's check and see what the good listener thinks we've got Zad one. Is there an equivalent act using equipment to injure in other sports and if so what would be the penalty? Imagine a battery charging the mound with a bat in his hand. This is rare in hockey and must be punished severely to keep it rare and he brings up Marty Havlat Times to and what we just saw the Cleveland Brown player clobber a guy or the Pittsburgh. Steelers over the head with his helmet. We saw very deep Minor League Baseball Game. Where a guy just basically beating the pitch the pitcher thrown at through behind him. Instead of going into the mound he turned around and started smashing the Catcher with his baseball bat decided it was a convenient thing right rather than have to run out to the pitcher and this led his buddy it just easier from a couple more here this go through three or four and then we'll get some whatever when you want to react to. Nhl Safety Watcher is personally seven or eight as fair based on how? They've ramped up suspensions in the past. There's legitimate argument to change the rule. I think kicking should be automatic. Ten Games regardless of the history of the player at Aroma. Bean writes seven games. Come on should be fifteen at minimum is not the lack of injury. It is the intent. Riquet see this is a ridiculous decision skates so sharp. Serious injury could have happened. This is one of the most flagrant fouls that could be committed. And there's no excuse and lastly Silva way too low for such dangerous play. I was looking at a minimum ten games more so after his comments about the other player faking and potentially flying into the recipe tried showed no remorse. Scott already. He's already been suspended to boot. This year complete miss okay. We're GONNA take a time out here James But.

So they you could you take in the last movie, honestly and tied it into same universe. I don't know why they didn't. And it would have been fine. Your these guys you're like when they come out at the end. It's spoken greatest feel-good movie. Still have not seen the all female version that got a lot of horrible. It's not it's fives. Whatever. But like, it doesn't make sense. Why you wouldn't did act did a fucking movie? Why wouldn't you set it into same universe? I don't understand anyways back to. I think I like Blake's question. What will you like to see continued and is a continuation better than a reboot? I would say continuation guess better than I think it's one of those things that like if you're going to. If there is still stuff left on the table to do. Yeah. You should do it like karate kid Cobra KAI showed? Yeah. There's so much stuff that you can do it, you know. But if you've exhausted it to the point of like. It's it needs to be refreshed than you can do it. Well, that gremlins like what's Gizmo been doing this all time? What do you wanna know? Does he have kids grow? I think there's no need. Okay. I. You don't need another ET either. You don't even know the godfather, you don't even know the goodfellas there all the way that the future was thrown about now. No ish in redo that. We do it. You do something with their kids with everyone like some it's the same universe. I I like I prefer a continuation as long as the right future. Absolutely. Yeah. I couldn't watch the whole thing. I started watching. I never said it was not good. It didn't have didn't have Danielle Finn. Didn't have Tim Burton, and it didn't have the same charm. So sometimes even if you have the same dude that's from the movie in your needs. You gotta really have everything like everybody involved that really really understands what it is. So back to the prequel thing. I tried solos on Netflix. I tried. I've tried twice to rewatch this movie. It does not hold my attention. Like, I can't I kick it through it. I don't know. What is it shouldn't be exactly? Gordon Miller is the reason why I can't I just didn't care and like nothing made me care. And I was like, wow. All right. "What is the alternative VAT Ontario's government is proposing so court into this omnibus Bill, which includes these changes, the government is go is saying that they're going to police themselves. So they're saying that removing the watch to save some money to reduce red-tape, which is all inaccurate. By the way, we still don't know how much money they're going to save by removing this watchdog, and the environmental watchdog really isn't red tape because they can't actually enact any policy right, canton, neck policy. They can't actually take any action other than force recommendations and released reports and keep an eye on put things in the public eye and be that lease on between public and government. So now the question is do we trust this government to protect the environment around us? Do we think they can do a good job? Can we trust that they are going to take action against climate change and protect our next generation and the generation after that, you know? Both Gordon Miller. Diane Sykes, use Titanic metaphors when they talk to me about the minister environments climate plan, which is not very reassuring. Do you know the Titanic meme were the ship is just upright in the water? And the guy at the top says, what do you mean, the sea levels are rising? It looks fine from up here at that's the metaphor. Gordon Miller is okay. And Diane SaK said that the climate plan is like rearranging the furniture on the docks of the ship, which is not an uncommon analogy when it comes to our climate policies around the world these days, not at all. But on -tario was in a unique position in that. It was a leader. You know, we had a cap and trade program that was gonna breeze billions and keep pollution and check we had an environmental watchdog, which not many countries have you know, and this was a unique legislated officer who was raising awareness about environmental problems at a time when they're becoming increasingly complex and hard to understand. But also keeping the government in check. Diane sacks was very critical voice. And when it came to these issues, and she. She was very strong and in saying that you're not doing enough, and you ask the government why they were removing her. They didn't really answer. What is traditionally if if Diane Saxon other commissioners have been the people tasked with speaking out that can't be a friendly relationship? No matter who is in Queens Park. What is traditionally the ties between the Commissioner and the governing party? I have spoken to to environmental commissioners now. One of them served for ten years under four different governments, right conservative and liberal. The other one has served for three years under two different governments. Gord Miller said this is unprecedented. So he said that under his tenure he had flexes and everyone respected his role and his ability to be critical of the government's action or inaction when it comes to climate and environment. Diane socks didn't have a problem with the liberal government. It's only when this new government this new conservative government has come in that there has been tension because there has been. A difference of perspectives when it comes to how to deal with the environment. I don't know what that means moving forward. That's the thing we're bogged down in policy because that's what created the situation that we're in. But at the end of the day, Ontario is heading down a path that is very uncertain. We don't know what's going to happen a year from now, we don't know what our environment's going to look like we don't know what climate change is going to look like, and we don't know whether whatever the government has proposed in their climate plan, and this lack of an environmental watchdog what kind of affect that will have from year on. How did we end up going backwards on this? I have no idea. I think not just us..

"And then this was sort of the final full stop in that mandate that we're going to remove the environmental watchdog. Right. So explain three one just a little bit. So you can explain to me, what is the environmental watchdog. What is Diane Saxe do? So Diane sacks is an independent officer of the legislator. So her job is to keep an eye on the government when it comes to their environmental policy. So she's the woman who's looking at all the decisions they're making. She is the voice for the people and frontiers environment. So let's look, let's do a hypothetical example. So you live in a rural town and Antero next to a lake shore. And you see. Some weird things in the water that look like it's damaging the water that waterway, you know, is entering your top system. And you're going to drink it your concern. So who do you go to Diane Sachs's your person? Okay. You would go to her. You would say, hey, this is what's happening in my backyard? How do I approach it? Diane sacks will walk you through it. She'll say okay submit proposal. Like, right. Your concerns up and send it to the ministry, and then she will make sure that the ministry responds within the mandate at sixty days that it needs to respond depending on how serious that concern is so without her. There's no one sort of, you know, following up and making sure that the ministry of environment and the ministry of natural resources are actually doing their due diligence by on -tario environment. So give me a couple of non hypothetical examples like historically what has this office actually done in stepped in on? So Diane Sox's predescessor Gord Miller who is in the position for ten years. He talks about how when he entered that office. There was no policy to protect endangered species in Ontario, the list of protected species in Ontario at that time was a dozen long. Whereas worldwide there were a hundred and fifty species that were under risk and Gordon Miller received tons of messages about this from people across the province saying that, you know, there are turtles in my backyard that are rare there are bird species. There's this and that and he took it to the ministry and say, hey, what are you doing about it? Couple of years later, the minister of natural resources of the conference is asked about it. And he says, yeah, we don't have an endangered species at risk policy, and we should work on that. And now on -tario house one cases like the grassy narrows, which is a first nations community in Ontario that suffered from years long mercury poisoning because the water was just unprotected is an issue that our environmental commissioners have kept an eye on and push the ministry onto address, and they finally addressed it or at least. Started to address it without these watchdogs. We really have no one who can look at the province and say who is doing something about the trees who's doing something about our waterways who's doing something about the land in an age where climate change is having a serious impact on our day to day lives. We need a watchdog to hold our governments to account and someone we can go to to say, hey, there's something wrong in my backyard. Tell me about the moment that Ontario's environment Commissioner realized she no longer had a job. So there's two facets to this. The first time was when the Bill was proposed. This was in mid November mid to late November. When the Bill was first proposed. Diane sacks was in Peterborough visiting a community talking about her climate report. She got a call from CBC reporter. And that was the first time she'd heard about that her job might not exist anymore. Twenty eighteen was the twenty fifth anniversary of her office's existence. And the role they had played to Mark that undiversified the government decided to cut her office entirely, which to her was devastating, and too many people who follow the environmental Commissioner's office was completely outrageous. The second time was when I was interviewing her on December sixth. It was very cold afternoon. I remember because we took her outside to take a photo shoot we were opposite Queens Park..

"Don't really usually give credit to like, oh, this came out of this draft from this writer, or, you know, that kind of thing. It's kind of a, I don't know if it's just like the politics of Hollywood. You just don't usually do that. Especially when there's problems with the movie in this list. Quite a quite often gives credit to, you know, oh, this part of the movie is credited to Lawrence Kasdan who came up with this thing or learn Miller, had this great idea for this. So you're actually getting a sense of, you know where ideas from Ron Howard came in or where you know what the original ideas from Gordon Miller were, which is fascinating because I think a lot of people that did not like this movie like to kind of be like, you know, Disney, neutered it that they, they've ruined it by, you know, neutering learn Miller's vision in, not that we don't know that the case or not. But it's interesting to hear that some of these things like a lot of people did not like about the movie, like they didn't like Chewbacca, you know, being in that how Hawn meets Juba data that was all Lord, no, or is this a bunch of stuff giving credit to learn Miller that I think people might be surprised about? Not to say that if they had directed those scenes might not have played better or not. But I know I think it's just interesting to see, you know which ideas are attributed to, you know which artists, but yeah, you can read that whole list on slash dot com alongside us new concept, art, Chris. Is there any anything interesting in this new concept? Art. The Moser's thing is there's a drawing of an e walk. So there was a chance we almost got an e walk in solo, but you know, again, concept are happens very early. It doesn't always reflect what was going to be in the movie. So there's a. Chance this never got past this stage, but it would have been cool to have just an e walks somewhere in in solo even for a brief moment. And I love this piece of concept art because someone's almost like using the has you walk on a leash like a dog gerrad dog another alien creature. I do know that like there was some set photos that that we out early in the production when learn Miller were still on the film and in Dresden's office ADR Dryden what's his right invited dried involves, sorry and Weiss at Dresden in Dryden's office. In one of the cases, the display cases was originally originally a skinned and stuffed you walk. And that was when these photos leaked on TMZ. But in their finished film, though we got from Ron Howard. I think there was like a. Bb. A mandatory in armor in that case or some something. So yeah, things change all the time in next up. We're going to enter the spoiler room and talk about the predator. And for that segment, I'm gonna bring on slash film, weakened editor, Brad omen. That's me. Okay. B before we get into into at all, let's say that major spoilers for the predator coming up because we're going to be talking about the ending. We're going to be talking about a lot of pop points, so you might wanna save this a bit until you've seen the movie this weekend as you see this on your on your tunes podcast app, and you know, come back to it if you seen the movie because we have a bunch to talk about Brad, you saw this movie last night. What did you think? You know, I actually really enjoyed it. I was expecting it not to be that great, but I had a lot of fun watching it. I didn't think it was quite as messy as some people had said. It didn't at least in feel that way to me had a nice. Flow to it. It was nonstop action about the ensemble was great together. There are there were definitely some questionable CG shots, I think could have been improved specifically them close ups of some of the ultimate predators face. But otherwise, I, I just had a lot of fun watching it. And I, it felt like basically like exactly what I expected from Shane black, directing a predator movie. And I just I had a lot of fun with that. That's really connect success..
