"Having won the game. They're going through the handshakes and everything else and they're still out there. And there's there's a bit of a delay, but we are allowed Sam Flood, our producer, said. We're holding off on telling why the cup isn't there And finally, he said, you could break the embargo. Explain what's going on. On, so I was able to explain that it's not here yet. Neither is the cons, maestro because they're both in the same vehicle. Then we have a camera in the runway near the Zamboni entrance that is showing that here it is finally arrived. And so they hurriedly present the Conn Smythe and then the Then the Stanley Cup comes out. But the fact that you have the crowd making the noise unlike the other times when the Blackhawks won, that's what made the night special. Yeah, well, you know what? You just made our morning hearing your voice, Mike. Doc Emmerich all the best to you, and we look forward Tolo. Catching up with you down the road, Doc. All the best. Thank you. So much for the time today CEO welcoming through the program, Todd Osmond, who was the president of Goose Island Beer company, because It's Bourbon County beer time. All right, Todd. Oh, yeah. And thanks for having me and unfortunately right now, I did not have anyone to Half that beer around with other than myself. I mean, every kid saying that probably at camp or somewhere. Yeah, because you do have more than 99 bottles of beer on your wall. I mean, here, the Goose Island, the president of Goose Island Beer Company. How many bottles of beer on the wall do you have, he said? I don't know where I mean, I am. Let's call it unlimited, very fortunate. Yes, you are. You could not get to the end of that. I don't know anybody who ever got to the end of it. You know, I was talking to my, uh, super hip hipster producer Tom Hipster truly is his middle name. Hush and hey, was telling me that he is a what do you call it? A craft Beer snob. Was that the right term time? I think the word I used was enthusiast. But all I see, Uh right. That's exactly enthusiast. That's what I say. You said. I'll see you this business. So what, Anyway way we're gonna do it. Take any any name on that? Susie? A spear geek, Your lover, whatever you want, and it has had, it has become an entire Genre of brewing and different tastes and notes. If that's the right word and Bourbon County beer really is the stout Huh? Is can you explain this to me? Because I'm not personally. I do not know about the bourbon. Gunny. Stop. You're so it is, uh, it is a new style that we developed back in the early nineties. It's an imperial stout that we age for a year in bourbon barrels, so beer was traditionally store them in barrels and oak barrels, But we weigh used bourbon barrel to get character. From the bourbon into this fear, and now it's its own category of beer. And you bring this out annually. We do We bring it out every year. Black Friday. Um, we started that tradition 10 years ago when we released a bourbon Tony stop rare, which was Age for two years and 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle barrels with oil and that wait a minute. It was peppy than winkle. Yeah, they they found some old Harold, that age pep event We call for 23 years. We got our hands on him. Was that real sister Peppi? I mean, what What was what was peppy Van Winkle. Was that a brand that? Yeah, that's a sought after brand so we wait. That's the greatest name for beer that I've ever heard. Peppy van window? Yeah, that Z just the way the building. You'll find a lot of people who Travel the world and travel the country in search of special bourbon. Can we get our hands on those barrels once they're done with them and put our beer in it? So, but there's no bourbon. Per se in the bit in the barrel, unless it is just sort of set. It seeps into the wood, right. I mean, it's not like it does. You won't hear this too often, But Chicago has the greatest weather in the world for that. So the reason we agent for years the wood expands and contracts on the beer passes passes into the wood. Holds up, pulled out some of that bourbon that's left behind and goes through that char and that picks up nutty notes and chocolate and roast it just really complex and beautiful. Wow. And you can actually taste these notes and influences from one to another. I'm guessing if you sat down could if you had a tasting thing, and you had like You know, a little bit of this and a little bit of that, could you? Could your palate discern the difference? 0 100% and that have tried it. And I've actually been blind taste test that it was some of the master distillers who bourbon barrels we used and they could tell you which ones were their barrels. That is very cool. Um When is this Bourbon County Beer, Start a stout rather going to be released. It's black side every every year, the day after Thanksgiving, usually my favorite day of the year this year is gonna be a little bit different, but traditionally people people camp out overnight toe by the spear and line up and It's the old cliche. It's just a smudge about the journey is it is the destination and people enjoy the conversation. But, yeah, this year it'll be a little different. So how is it that how are you approaching it? With the environment we live in now. I mean, would people ordered online trying to pick it up? What? Here. I'll give you an example. So we have a Chicago only version called proprieties that release every year. Then we release that a little bit before Black Friday and we do it through a lottery, and usually it's a big street party outside the brewery. But this year we're going to do it as a drive through. So we have cars setting up at the United Center parking lot, which is about a block and a half away from library and.

"As I mentioned 41 42 Reynold cars driving up from ST Louis. They also had players coming up from Springfield, which was their alternate site and from Springfield players were taking a bus to come up to Chicago. So it'll be interesting to see what kind of lineup thing out. I know. A lot of people have been hypercritical of what the cardinals have been doing and how they continued to test positive. This virus isn't easy for people to understand that realize, at 26 or 27 or 28 man roster, there are a lot of professionals who want to play this game. They're a lot of professionals who want to go out there and win games and the ST Louis Cardinals will be trying to do that. Tomorrow and next week when they're taken out the Cubs. The Cardinals are going to need to play 55 games in 44 days. There are very, very few people who think the Cardinals will be able to get to a certain number before. The baseball show started on the wide load, Sylvie show they were talking about how many games they think it should take for the Cardinals tohave to play in order to even be eligible for the postseason. And I think it was marching and Greco said 45 Adam Abdullah said 50 Fifty's not bad if you play 50 of the 60 games, But what's gonna happen is you're going to see a lot of people right now. Try say, listen. I understand the Cardinals were behind it was the cardinal's problem. There's no reason we should have to play doubleheaders. We'll talk more about that because there's going to be that one but two scheduled doubleheaders at the friendly confines coming up next week. We come back, Jessie Rogers will join us. Argue his suspension should be brought down doesn't really win the battle with Major league baseball after what took place between Joe Kelly and the Houston Astros, and to be honest, Without really knowing a whole lot about Joe Kelly. Before the last couple of weeks, he has immediately jumped up the rankings of my favorite baseball players, because, like first of all, just the face he made Towards Carlos Correa. Korea was awesome, but then also and we'll play the clip here when you hear him speak that dude's awesome. See your You say he lost the battle. He's going to win the war because, like you said, he's instantly everyone's favorite player because he is the face of retaliation against the Astros is that is what it is. No one can get retaliation against the Astros, except for the players because they're not You know, they didn't get suspended Nothing like that because they were granted immunity. But ultimately he is the face of revenge for everybody. For every true baseball fan for every old timey and young timing, baseball fan he is the face of he is their Superman. He is their hero, and the problem is, you need to live long enough to become the hero. Or you die something or you live. Whatever the Batman You either become the hero. You live long enough to become the villain said what it is Hero villain. All right. I'm on play Joe Kelly. Why don't you Google that quote and then you'll try and deliver it when we're done with the Joe Kelly audience joke telling. That's amazing feeling. Quote comes up. This isn't Monday. You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. There is Joe Kelly was on the big swing. How do those things Because I'm not a hero. Not like Dent O..

"Is the baseball show here on ESPN 1000 from the first Midwest Bank studio in for J. Hood. I'll be in again on Friday evening before Black and Abdullah take over the reins of the baseball show beginning next Monday night, August 17th. When we have our set light up with Cap and J Hood taken over the mornings from seven until 10 o'clock. Just want to start off by saying congratulations to all those guys have worked with buddy for years and years and running into Black and Abdullah on Sunday mornings for the last two or three years, great things for guys that are working their tails off. Nice to see they were rewarded justly. So we've got a lot to talk about here on the baseball show for the next hour. Then we'll talk some black hawks and other things and football, But the baseball show is brought to you by Goose Island Beer Company. You can always follow us on Twitter at ESPN MLB show give US a call at 3123323776 And get to me on Twitter at Fred underscore huge dinner and the White Sox playing an afternoon game today after dropping the 1st 1 in Right? Dallas. Talk to the people over Zoom, talked to the gathered media and basically let the White Sox have it. And since then the white socks are, too. And, uh oh, a k after cycle as they have Hit the ball, and when you hit the ball, you win games in Major league Baseball nowadays, forget about that movement, A runner along and getting a guy in from second, It's all home run or nothing and the White Sox got more homers again. Today they end up winning the game of final of 7 to 5. This after an 8 to 4 win yesterday. Yesterday, it was a brave with a double of three run shot from Alloy and Carnesi own going deep. Today. It was Tim Anderson. It was a TA show The Tim Anderson show today as Tim Anderson did all kinds of great things for the white sacks today, and he was back in the lineup back in lineup for the White Sox back at the top of the light up, which is something that He enjoys doing, but it's nice to Sita back in the light up in the first at bat first at bat of the game, Tim Anderson 10 pitch at bat, and it certainly paid off with this. But weak. You will hear that in a moment. So Tim Anderson with a 10 pitch it bad. And what's he do? He's just keeps following balls off, and I followed him off deep or anything. He fouls went often to the third base Coaches box and follows one down the first base line. And he follows one back behind the catcher, and he's just continuing to foul. The ball off from Matthew Boy Boy has struggled this year. He comes into the game of the theory of nine and Anderson. What do you do? Leads off the game Takes him deep goes home run as Anderson rounds the bases. He gives and you heard this from Chuck are fine. We was just on with Waddell and Sylvie show. He gets like a little shish as he comes to third base and after the game, he said he was shushing his critics because A lot of people said that he would probably lose that first that leadoff job and he didn't not with the way he hit today so that the home run leads off the game that it was the light of menace. And he like goes, Apple hits the ball out of the park to nothing. 1st 2 batters of the game. Go deep. Let's listen to the 1st 2 homers in the game, Tim.

"Goose Island Beer Company. Hope that you have a great Weekend, especially with baseball. No cubs, obviously because the Cubs on the Cardinal's Siri's has been postponed because of covert 19 But there's other things to watch white socks. Everything else around Major League Baseball. Don't forget to follow on Twitter at ESPN MLB show We're going to hear from Jessie. Just a moment. Let me squeeze in Mike in Schomburg with Jonathan who know the baseball show on ESPN 1000. Hi, Mike. Hope you're having a good Friday. Great Show Great Show, which was longer tonight. Quit two quick points, one on Why teams don't just get L's like there's not a lot of responsibility. You know, they get Cove it and it's just okay. We'll postpone it will postpone it. It's not all right. You get it out three people up from the taxi squad. And play the game were take the L and then you know, owners. Maybe they have to find players. I know Jeff's not gonna like hearing that could be the player guy. However, I feel like there's no responsibility and a millionaire. I mean, let's just take athletes out of it right. Do you need? I don't know. A lot of any millionaires. Thank you. Thousands. Most millionaires seems to have an air about them that they can almost do whatever they want. Whenever they want, And I think that's the same situation that's going on right now without any, you know, without any sense of restrictions or penalties to the team. And then the players. Hell, Even the owners of their teams are missing games. Take away some of that revenue. I think that may help. Help that situation a little bit. I appreciate you breaking down the game of baseball and not just crushing the game and talking about the generalities of it as well. Really appreciate that great show. Thank you, Mike. I appreciate you checking in on the baseball show it just No, I love the sport. Just like you love the sport. There's so many things to the two baseball that we've got to talk about. You know, I've had a hard time trying to balance covert 19 and that actually what's going on on the field. This year, But I've enjoyed being able to talk about both because we know Coben, 19 in that story is real, but also the action that we do get fantasy That's really is well, and it's also great to just have some semblance of baseball, even though it doesn't seem like The baseball that you and I are used to it fans and the pageantry of the sport, But it's it's here in some cities, not all of them Clearly. Jesse Rogers covers Major league baseball for ESPN dot com. And he joins me here on the baseball show presented by Goose Island Beer Company on ESPN. 1000 Jesse. You just heard from our caller Mike talking about the taxi squats all I'll start there. Now that we know that the Cardinals in the Cup series is postpone for this weekend. What about the taxi squad? How come taxi squad players are not being utilized enough across the board? To prevent cancellations in major league baseball. Yes, there's a misconception there. The players air there to replace the ones that tested positive, but that has nothing to do with canceling games. The cancellation is To prevent further spread and in case other cardinals in this instance are positive. They don't want to gather the teams together on DH. That's the problem. Yeah, you can replace the ones that have already been Dean positive. But this incubation period is causing havoc. The point is, we know the Cardinals have an outbreak. We're waiting for it to subside. They figured a couple negative days of negative tests. Results would be okay. But then a positive one pops up out of nowhere. So yeah, that player will be replaced, but they we don't know who else could be positive. So now they want to wait another couple of days. To make sure the rest of the guys that are that are left over don't infect each other or certainly the Cubs if it was this weekend, but that that's the reason you're not just seeing them call up and not missing games. And maybe that is something we really didn't visualize before the season started. Jesse would baseball just continuing the way that's going to remember Rob Manfred with that? Sit down with Tom Verducci a couple of weeks ago, saying that if we're gonna have, you know multiple outbreaks for, you know, with baseball teams, and we might shut it down. How much is this damages for just for just keep going and having all these cancellations You know, I think they want power through. I think they're hopeful that these two outbreaks have been wake up calls for the players and number two. The tightening of the protocols will help prevent the next outbreak. So sometimes and I said this Ah, last week. I think I'm one of the shows You need a little leveling off period when summer camp started, there was a positive test. Everybody was delayed member. All those delayed practices. Things settled in in the last couple weeks of summer camp went well, thanks. Same thing. Here we start traveling guys test positive. They're not. They're little lack, so I don't need to wear the mask everywhere. And all of a sudden we have two outbreaks now. Things level off. Once guys learn what they need to do. They tighten up the protocols. Maybe baseball messed up. Maybe surgical mask should have been required right away. But look, they're listening to their medical experts, the medical expert said. Cloth mask And now on buses and planes. They've said surgical masks, so I don't think it's his chaotic as you as you might think..

"What's going on? Was cracking. Not much, man. I must exact way keeping TV rather than do it. Oh, yeah, There's no doubt What What do you remember what your favorite jersey or least favorite jersey from? Like I mean, the Sox won definitely like the old school like 85. You know, you had no stripes with the facts and, um You know that I still got the head, You know, just with the wax. You know, with the red cap white cops. But the jersey that comes in mind is a turquoise Ken Griffey Jr. Seattle Mariners Jersey. Oh, yes. You know, I mean, 10 old school, You know, they didn't wear it that march, but very cool. I'm glad you checked in, man. Appreciate your phone call. Do you see Kenyon on my Facebook? What? These turn ahead the clock jerseys. Those are ugly. Yeah, like the weird, ugly All Star Game one or whatever it is, you know, I don't like that at all. And and it's a It's a picture Griffey if I'm from school, and I'm sure Yeah. Graffiti in the defense of Luke, who just called anything Griffey, Norma does is cool. Like I graffiti just is cool this jersey where he's wearing a weird star with a giant compass on it. I don't like it, but I love those those ones that Luke brought up. Antoine Fields, says that his favorite all time is the Blue Jays. And that is from 93 the back to back championships. That's like Joe Carter, right? That's right. That's how we have to describe it, like instead of describing the cause, like the player of the moment, and then you picture that jersey in the moment. Joe Carter. Blue Jays Jersey was was tight. I like that. I like that. And people are you know, Sox fans are coming in with the richies ISC Southside Hitman Jersey Can I just tell you something? I've never said this publicly. I just was never a big fan of the collar. No, it's that's stupid that there's it's so weird to have a collar on a on a uniform. I understand was nostalgic for its time. And I'm Erik. You know me like I'm good. Aiken flow anyway, which way when it comes to old school or new school, But that is just It just doesn't do anything for me the collars on the chairs and I know it's nostalgic is cool, but start a fan. Yeah, I'm I'm with Chris sale on those uniforms. Put that way. It's 77 78 or whatever. It was hit Man. I wasn't a big fan of that jersey. Dan is on the road on the baseball show presented by Goose on your company with Jonathan Hood. Hello, Dan. A J hood. How are you, buddy? I'm well, thanks for checking in. What do you think So? My two least favorite are the Houston Astros from 86. I think of the last year with that stripe on the bottom. I remember Mike Scott wearing that one picture and the Padres from 84 bucks. My favorite, not the Mariners. That turquoise that the other call ahead. I like the old Royal blue with the gold. The triumph was turned upside down for the M for the Mariner logo. That was a pretty cool jersey back in the day when they had a speed trap before he came to the council's Where Something tells me and I appreciate phone call Dan. I think I might have had that as a kid. I can't remember. I know that I've had to Mariners jerseys. It might have been that one. And, of course, had a Griffey Jersey. Erica's out. Even as a Sox fan. I was a complete mark for Griffey Junior staying up late night to watch those games mean absolutely. Griffey was in my age when I was that was like prime literally years. Griffey was everyone's favorite player like he was completely and I know what logo is talking about. It's awesome looking upside down Yellow Trident. On the hat. So it's like the M for matter, Plus like a See God's tried and it's sweet, sweet. I like it and somebody while you wait one last thing Daniel sneak in on Facebook and gave us like the 19 18 cubs. You saw this right from Daniel Hansen, where he's got, like the old school. It looks like someone who worked underneath the car that uniform. It's exactly what it looks like. It's like it's got the cub with the bat between his legs. You need to try to show how big he is. Apparently so jerseys were so baggy that like the head so disturbing as an athlete. Yeah, your your jersey should not your function. I feel like a suit. No, not at all. Not one bit is exactly a zoot suit at that coming up. We will give you five for five our last five minutes. It's it's Ah, It probably gets more weekly at the house still like I were around and the problem with those jerseys, and I'm not sure how they played with it. So, so I think you kind of beat me to it that that White Sox won Macomb, but they're white. That's got that, like Red Sox across the chest. That was pretty cool. And another one. I would have to say it's probably that like early 2000 Arizona Diamondbacks picture like Lady Johnson growing out there with that, like purplish make around. Yes, those two. I appreciate your phone call, because that is the snake going up the side of the A. It was the green A with Gold around the eh? The outline of the A, and, of course, is just the white pinstripes and like the blues, the purple sleeves ahead. That was it in a weird look back in the day, but but any time that you have an expansion team that's been around for a while, you just kind of just look at that jersey. So you know what No one else has. I'm going to buy it. I'll give an example. I've already bought a Seattle crack in T shirt. I'm with you on that that logo. I like the mask out of crackers. And the whole thing is cool. And like every time a new team comes out like thes de back uniforms, they're always throw in some unique colors that you don't see. So we had like a purple and turquoise color combination. For that deep actors that you don't see that it's crazy. Another thing I like about those jerseys is ah, You don't see too many. I think the red still wearing but not too many other teams were the vest with the T shirt underneath. And that the big units got the white with the purple sleeves. So that's Yeah. You know what the Reds do still rock there from time to time, But I think they're the one of the fuse that still do. "The corner. Scores to come out for a socially distance celebration in the middle of Right there on the marquee network Linen J. B on the call. The Cubs swept the pirates, and they may look easy over the weekend. Yes, that will took a little extra time, but the Cubs you always kind of knew that they were going to get it done, Winning. 623423221 And seven and two on the season despite questionable relief, pitching the questions about the closer to begin the season. That's a really fine start to the season for the Cubs. What stands out to me The most is the starting pitching and so much for Jon Lester being at the tail end of his career, right? I mean, you could probably say from an age standpoint, age 36 37 that he could be definitely at the age where you say, OK, maybe he's going to be winding it down, but he didn't look like that against the Pirates was really interested in to find out how he would prevail. He did. It was vintage Lester. His last outing. Quality start in a sub one. Tr Rafer Lester. Now that's the Leicester that we saw in 2016 when he was pitching with dominance, and that's exactly what we saw. So Lester's outing brought the Cubsstarting Pictures Ray down to 2.21 for the season, currently second best in baseball. So Whatever question marks that you had about the Cubs and their pitching. Certainly the bullpen still leaves a little bit to be desired on a regular basis, But again, it is early in the season, but The second best in baseball for of this team on the North side, pretty strong, and it's not even full times through the rotation yet, but every starter has to put together at least one impressive outing as we talk about this on the baseball show with Jonathan had presented by Goose Island Beer Company on ESPN 1000 and the ESPN Chicago APP some thoughts from David Ross. The manager for the Cubs. He says that the offense is wearing down pitchers in the victory. You know that big bad by Schwartz, you know, obviously field home run big walk. How he was very poison his last at bat to get on base in front of Kyle and you know, it was a dangerous hitter and his hit some balls. Hard of all The other base hit here tonight was was an absolute rocket. I don't know what the eggs of the loan that was, but He's a strong man, and we've got a real powerful lineup and that's what happens when you when you start from pitch one and.

Their game by the way is postpone on there will be a doubleheader tomorrow because of rain in the area in Cleveland So no game for the White Sox tonight and we're still waiting on the Cubs and the Reds. We knew there was going to rain in Cincinnati as well. So that game is in a rain delay right now. A couple of games in progress for you Toronto, leaving Washington by school for the one That game is in the bottom of the fifth. Tied at one between Lana and Tampa top of the fourth bottom to Milwaukee in Pittsburgh. No score in Pittsburgh one Nothing. Kansas City over Detroit. The Games in the bottom of second no score between Seattle in Houston in The state of Texas to the top of the second and Boston and the Mets are just getting underway in Boston, Massachusetts. There's a couple of games that took place earlier today, I was watching the Angels in the Oakland A's And the A's win three. Nothing. So here's a scenario Eric runners we've have runners at first and second, Mike Trout is up, right? This is like LeBron at the free throw line to see if whether that he could be able to score and put the his team ahead. Mike Trout's at the plate. He takes Ah, pitch God. It was above his waist and his strike three strike out looking to end the game. That's not what you want from the face of the game, and he was actually used pissed off. He was not happy that he got called out on strikes. And Oakland wins that game three Nothing. I saw the highlights on Twitter and it absolutely just was a high breaking ball. It was spinning that he just didn't want to go after because it wasn't a strike, and he instantly turned around. Look at that. Oh, so Taking the bad out of the best player in the hand in the most important time of the game, Not depending on what you what you are are into, you would have loved the colors of the Angels and the athletics on the field the same time a lot of reds a lot of green. About yellow. I think it would have been very attractive to the eye that someone that was watching that game. A lot of colors on the field for that San Diego over Arizona, about score of 6 to 2, as we mentioned before Miami in Baltimore is postpone. Zuko Bit 19. Also, the Yankees in the Philadelphia Phillies also postpone as you're listening to the baseball show presented by Goose Island Beer Company Right here on ESPN 1000 ESPN Chicago APP. I have watched by Rome or games parts of five or more games, because if I'm watching all the Cubs Games and all the Sox games that six plus watching San Diego watch the Dodgers It's almost 10. So I watched bits and pieces of a lot of the other games outside the Cubs and socks, So I clicked Firearm, or 26% of you say two or fewer and 7% say four. Going to get your take away. Commissioner Rob Manford. Thank you for being here. There has been a covert 19 outbreak among the Miami Marlins. It is a crisis obviously unwelcome, not totally unanticipated in today's world, and we know that to baseball games have been postponed this evening in Philadelphia. In Miami. What can you tell us about the Major League baseball schedule going forward beyond tonight? Well, Our first concern obviously is the health of the players and their families and making sure that we do everything possible to minimize the spread of the virus among our employees. We've been fortunate so far we've done tens of thousands of tests are positive rate. Has been 0.4% so we feel like the protocols have worked pretty well. Notwithstanding the effect we have made some decisions. The Miami Marlins will not play their two games in Miami tonight tomorrow. We're doing some additional testing if the testing results are acceptable. The Marlins will resume play in Baltimore on Wednesday against the Orioles. So that is the official word. There's Mohr from Rob Manfred, and, among other things he was talking about was talking about how, when asked from Tom Verducci, would you consider the bubble was never on the table? Would you ever consider a bubble? Forbade Julie baseball, he said. Well, there's there's too many players to much personnel to be able to have a bubble. If you will be working just fine in the national Hockey Meon the MBA, though I know that there's a lot more players in Major League baseball, but the point is, is that it's about safety. Good luck and God speed when it comes to that he's in Fitz Simmons on Freddie Coleman of Freddy Infant Senate, but ESPN radio so far, two days of baseball have been too very good days. Yeah, no fans. But there has not been a lack of action has not been a lack of storylines. For example, Cop Hendricks was doing his thing for the Chicago Cubs today, shutting down the Milwaukee Brewers. Mike Trout so gave me not a bean bond want to say that, but he did wear one for the Los Angeles Angels shoulder. Either way, he's Yeah, his shoulder. He's not putting the game in Tim Majorly season Mike Trout, so he's not eligible Baseball Hall of Fame Just put him in right now. But you pointed out something that I did not know about. Vince Cates put it on our appreciate Doc, and it's genius. It's it's spot on. What the hell is safety nets doing up his cardboard cutout? How cutout figures you know, and as phenomenal would it be? Especially not paying attention looking on their phones and Oh, yeah, This is why the netting is up for all you old school folks. You see little junior here? Age eight. "He did that. If he can on the inside corner a little bit, especially with two strike two strikes against righties. He could be the old Jon Lester and he's getting there. He's getting there. You see him? Powerful legs that he has to push off. Hey was great the other night, so let's see if he can carry that over. Lastly, you were talking about the playoffs. Yeah, has expanded. So now of a sudden I'm usually baseball's turned into the MBA or the NHL's so everybody end right. Eso How's Milwaukee fall into that because I thought that they would be taking a step back this year. Look under I love Craig Counsell. If the Cubs were going to go outside the organization, I would have said go pluck him from Milwaukee. Although he's the guy has been a brewer's old life. He grew up there, not sure you could get him. But I love everything about counsel. I would not count the Brewers out with him at the helm and in Christian yelling in the middle of that lineup. Pretty good pitching staff. They usually get more out of him than you think. Based on the names like this friend of Woodruff isn't well known, but he's got a great arm. So I wouldn't count the Brewers out there, not a favorite. I don't think the cubs their favorite, but with the expanded playoffs could either team battle for second place in division which would get you in, of course, and could either one of them battle for the For the next wildcard spot? Of course. So look, the Brewers and Cubs The Reds, probably the Cardinals. All 32 38 win. Teams at high end would be 38. But they're all in the mix here, and that's the beauty of the central division over the last few years, and it's just highlighted Mohr with a 60 game season. And the top two teams getting in the division. It'll be competitive. Seasons here, Jesse, I really appreciate you coming on the show. Excited for childhood. Any time. Let me know. Give me a buzz. Area's Jesse Rogers with us here on the baseball show presented by Goose Island Beer Company are here on ESPN 1000 ESPN Chicago APP that comes to go this way. It will be a Bryant result. BIOS Schwarber Contreras Hayward Cara team, You will be the D. H. Horner at second, half the center fielder and Kyle Hendricks on the mound for the Cubs as they take on the Brewers here tonight. The game just getting underway at Wrigley Field. You can't talk to Matt Polly from the Brewers Radio network and got his thoughts about the Brewers. You know, I wasn't sure about that team coming in. Now, with the expanded playoffs. You never know. I asked him what the Brewers lineup looks like after it's over. They're free agent losses. I think it was a season where they had a lot of players not perform to the level that they were expected to perform. And maybe the season did not go. As well as they were hoping it would go based off the NLCS appearance even the year before that, But once again, you get into September and they went on a run, just as they did the year before, and they were able to get to the post season. It was a tough way for that for the season to end when they ended up losing to the Nationals there in the wild card, But overall, I thought For a second straight year, Craig Counsell showed what he could do with an expanded roster in September, and that was enough for them to be opposed. I think at catcher Omar devise is going to do a nice job. We all know that he's got the bat. The question is, can he do? Enough defensively that he's not going to be a liability behind the plate. The Brewers are really good at helping to develop catchers, especially in terms of framing pitches. They think they can do a lot to help picture. Excuse me, however, catchers do that and grand all was so good when it came to framing pitches. He's one of the best in baseball doing that, and you got to get some version of that out of ideas. And just make sure he's a good enough receiver. So even even though yes, money granddaughter was such a good player. I feel like they're Maurico quipped to kind of replace him at catcher when you look at the third base situation, and that's basically how where even though Mike Mushtaq has played a lot of second base, they've got tested here at second. You really look at third. When you're talking about replacing Mike stock, and that's the biggest question mark on this team right now. Eric Sogard and Jed Jerko are going to be over there once Luis Aureus gets back If Orlando Garcia does a nice job, shortstop Orioles will be in the mix at third as well. But when you think about third base Mean Ah, Power position and R B I position. I don't know if the way the Brewers roster set up right now, if they've got that over 1/3 So thoughts there from that Polly from the Brewers Radio network, And so that is our preview of the Cubs as they are currently taking on the Brewers. Ahs Hendricks got out of the top of the first get rid of Sogaard yell if you Ara so he went 123 there, and the Cubs are coming up in the bottom of the first inning. All right, coming up. "Team's in town. I talked earlier about The dichotomy with Anderson and bias to talent short stops here in Chicago. I think Catalyst is the perfect word here for both players. No bias of the guy who became just a dynamo. And then all of a sudden he developed that guy. He's like, Oh, man, he's Super glove. Then you had the breakout season 2018 and followed up with a pretty good 19. Now Anderson had to break out 2019. Here's a guy who's you know, you see the potential with the glove. He hasn't been able to put it together yet. We'll be there. Good. As Faras. Upside goes, what I really like for Tim Anderson last year, the fact that he really stepped it up against every kind of pitch. You went from a to 53 batting average against fastballs, 3 50 in 2019. Breaking stuff. He went from 203 and 2018 3 10 in 2019 off speeding with some 2 83 believe 52 And he's not doing his pull Heavy is he used to be is going up the middle a lot, and he's also going up to the feel of the war's taken it wherever you want. And to me that looks like a very promising trend going forward. Now as far as have your vice is concerned. He is so explosive. It's gonna have more power than Anderson hasn't had a batting title yet. I don't know if it'll ever come with by its very streaky. That power is so dangerous that it's going to affect the way that picture's attacked him. And the most superhuman thing about how their bias is what he's been able to do after falling behind. Oh, too, in the count. 2019 80 to 75 Slugs 600 after falling behind, Oh to an account, which is unbelievable giving is the major league average was 1 65 batting average, 2 67 slugging. When falling behind. Oh, too. Just really sawed numbers. They're from Chris Camp from NBC SPORTS Chicago. The bias number is eye popping because of the production that you can get from him after no to pitch as a pitcher's pitches you guys know and for bias to be able to. I put some numbers up on a no to pitch when he's in the hole that just shows incremental growth in bias as a player. And once again when you look at Tim Anderson as terrific a player that he was for the White Sox last year, you just look form or American League hit King is great, but you look form or for him to be will grow on his game as well. One of the big storylines for the Cubs, and I've been watching some of these have been watching the Cubs and the White Sox. Just some of the clips from the summer camp practices that we've been seeing a guaranteed rate and over at Over at Wrigley Field, and it's just kind of interesting when you're seeing and nobody in the stands. There are People from the press that are sitting there and they're filming some of this, and it's just kind of weird that you're hearing a lot of the sounds of the game, even though there's nobody there. So Javi Bios was asked about. The strangest part of this experience of being able to play at Wrigley Field practice there, But they're no fans just not being close to anybody, You know, really close way had teammates. But we actually got to keep the distance and it's really weird man. It's really we're not not shaking hands now. Not having people around you when you when you do the routine, it was kind of funny to me. But you know the sounds that was kind of We're to be playing with it. Um, but, you know, we obviously used to the sound ofthe defense and in the crowd, so A song as a similar way okay with it. Yes, I know. It's gotta be weird for him, but it's weird for everybody when you're seeing home runs hit, and you're able to see action on the field, but it sounds like baseball, but it's really not baseball, so it's got to be kind of weird from players. It's weird for us as fans. This can't wait to see when the season starts. What that looks like a CZ. Well, one other thing regarding the Cubs. The delay and testing has come to Chicago. We have seen this in other parts around Major League baseball where teams and shut down their practice because they have not been able to receive The their test on time when it comes to covert 19 some thoughts from Theo Epstein for the Cubs. Theo's on the delay testing holding out Ross, the manager for the Cubs and others. There's a bit of a trade off, sometimes between timing and accuracy, and we would prefer accuracy, and that's what today's tradeoff was about. It was just waiting for just a couple results that that weren't clear yet to make sure they're retested. We can get total clarity so Um All in all, I think we're getting we're getting towards a really good place. So that's when Theo Epstein off. The cops aren't coming up. We open up the Major League Baseball notebook. We already have our poll question up at ESPN. MLB show again It's at ESPN MLB show We have our poll question up about the Cubs and socks lineups that we're going to see for 2020. "Right after Wyland Sylvie. Right here on ESPN 1000. You know, I cannot wait to see what Major league baseball looks like in this new norm. That we have right now that we're watching. We're waiting for the season to start. Ah baseball season that starts in July. So weird right here we are waiting for baseball. It feels like we should be doing this in March and having the season starts in April, But this is where we are right now. Is the new Norman 2020 60. Game is all we get. We have 60 games as baseball fans. Ah, lot less than we deserve. Quite frankly, is fan me 60 games. I can't plus too much about it. I guess I mean 60 games better than none. But we are lucky that the owners and the players came up with 60. They can't even agree on what to have for lunch during their meetings, but they came up with these games We're going to see coming up very soon. But I sense a feeling Off being unsure if we have a baseball season this month from some players were just a few days away. Now, the 24th 25th and 26th this month will be the start of it. Corbett, 19 has put a damper on knowing what the future brings in everything, not just sports, but Justin everything we don't know what the future brings. Can you go out traveling or not travelling and how often mask vs no mask, eating at a restaurant or take out its all part of our everyday lives? For the majority of us that live in the real world of infectious diseases, the possibility of death and sickness. We know how real this is. I've seen the totals over three million cases of United States spikes in Florida, Texas and Arizona and other places around the country. Some people believe that life as we know it between 19 The same was 2020 and it's just not Cove. It won't define me as a person. But it sure keeps me aware ofthe, making sure that I don't get anyone sick or someone gets me sick. So when I go out the mask is on safety First is very simple for May. But I want you think about the one percenters. It's different for you and I to go back and forth on Corona virus. Whether or not you believe it's theoretical or not, or if it's serious or not mean it's that's one discussion. But what about the entertainment side of this? What about the one percenters? Those that can play at a much higher level than weekend. We've seen now in combat sports with the UFC and boxing and pro wrestling. That those are among the sports are back in their running full time. But baseball is getting ready to start despite a lot of positive test for Coben, 19. A story came across today. From Marley Revere from ESPN dot com. The piece entitled Mentally Baseball Intake Corona virus testing, yielding 66%. Results from 3700 tests. About that, an eight day process that yielded 66 positive tests. And the union inform players Tuesday night that the intake process has ended with the completion of 7 3040 Tests. Again 3674 negative results. The second phase after the intake process, knowing the monitoring phase has already begun. So there's saliva tests and they were able to take a look at exactly how things would work out. There has been. Some tests have been late where players and teams have away for those tests to take place and find out the results of them. But that's the end result that we've got so far. But here's the thing. Many of us in the sports realm are very selfish. You and our baseball fans. We want to see the Cubs in socks. You want to see the Brewers who want to see baseball because this is something we're used to. In the summer. It is our conduit to get to football season. But as for baseball fans die hard baseball fans Used to seeing this and we're not getting it And we're gonna wait a few more weeks before opening day as we talk about this in the baseball show, Jonathan Hood presented by Goose Island Beer Company on ESPN 1000 and ESPN Chicago Act. Let's hear from some of those players and some of those people that are the one percenters. That play this game and love this game like the cubskris pride. For instance, Kris Bryant, who has been more outspoken the last couple of seasons at any time in his career, not the first time, he said, something that was a little bit off of kilter looked different than the usual baseball. Speaking given Kris Bryant. Residences like Yeah, I don't like the Cardinal's. Yeah, I just, You know, I'm not. I'm not a big fan of ST Louis and Cubs fans were just like, Yeah. He feels like we do finally, like someone says it like this is a real rivalry. Now what a player then, like the Cardinal's? Well, Chris has talked about its contract situation. Whether he's going to get the Cubs for a long haul, So I like that a player of his caliber. Is able to speak out and say what's on his mind. He used to joke about covert 19 as well. He talked about this. He says that he has been very critical of the testing process. I guess first I just want to come Across the saying, I don't want to be insensitive to people who haven't been able to get tests or or have been in situations like that. But as a country kind of gets access to more of those, I think You know it's appropriate to talk about our situation here and you know what? We were what we agreed to was testing, you know, every other day, and we've had guys here that showed up on Sunday. And hadn't gotten tested again, You know? 87 days later. You know, Andi, don't get the results for two days, either. You know, nine days without knowing, And I think if we really want this to to succeed, you know, we're gonna have to figure that out, you know, and I've wanted to play this year because I felt that it would be safe and I would feel comfortable. But honestly, I I don't really feel that that way. Which is why I'm trying to keep my distance from everybody and wearing a mask and And just so that we can get this thing going. And I think if if we want it to happen if you wanted to go smoothly, because this is the easy part, Really? I mean, when you when you get into the season you're travelling and urine airplane. Your hotel. You're in room service, you know. Kaiser. You know who knows what people are doing? A special on the other team's too. You know, you got to rely on everybody in this whole thing and I think if we can't really nail the easy park, which is right now and you know, just our players, you know who got a big hill climb? Thoughts there from Kris Bryant, Also with someone like Sean Doolittle shall do little is a pitcher with the washing nationals. And so Sean was talking about how We should not rush sports back because of covert 19 We're trying to bring baseball back during a pandemic that's killed 130,000 people were way worse off and as a country than where we were in March, when we shut this thing down and like look at where.

"Mike Pauley do have the forecast for where Mike is Danny Doppler five thousand is low of minus thirty four today. But it's going to go up to minus six on Saturday. It's gonna be sixteen degrees on Sunday. Yeah. What are you complaining about Mike? We do have a heat wave coming in. But he was to be in the low to mid forties. Zero all below zero. Okay. Yeah. So. Of your core. I thought it was on hold. I couldn't change stuff. Sorry about that. But sorry, guys. So we got a chance to are you married? No, well, divorced. So. Yeah. Yeah. People people all the where the right? You know? He'll go go towns got their own weather guy. Yeah. Person. Can you take a quick wit? A Mike give me I don't care about your love of the Cowboys. I just care about us surviving in Alaska. Can you take a picture of the on the surroundings outside send it to us? I got my Wilson to you guys. All right. Yeah. Do that. And good luck to your Cowboys this weekend there. Yeah. That's mike. He's all fired up. That guy's awesome. Yeah. You don't. Let's do a remote for Mike south from my house in Alaska. I got forty nine states ruined company. Black diamond grill. There's a lot of good bars restaurants, and then he'll ask them. Okay. All right. All right. I'm feeling it. I'm ready to go. I want to go to Alaska so bad. Let me see Dan in Chicago joining us. Hi, dan. What do you have for me too? Yeah. I don't know about you. But I was at the game Sunday. And I've got Cody parkey to TC. So seeing him on the today show is probably the last thing I need if he really wants to do some good press. There is goose island beer company in Chicago this weekend tomorrow, actually, they're having the Cody party challenge. So if you can take a forty three yard field goal you win free beer for a year. So I'm Cody party. The only press I mean, prepare for is trying to kick the biggest kick of my life in front of all these armchair kickers thing. They can do what he does. And then the free beer for a year. I just give one to everybody that went out there watching because I'm just so sick of the Cody parkey narrative if you look at the game and he did a great job on Monday. There are so many different things that the bears did to to screw themselves up lose that game. And just down to the guy that we didn't want it to come down. And it was a sub going. Compassi that we had. So if I'm Cody parkey, I'm going to goose island beer company tomorrow kicking the field goal winning. Everybody some beer, right? Thank you, Dan. Okay. Here's the problem would have Cody parkey misses the field goal. See he can't show up there. What if he it's the post? Oh, no. You can't. I just don't need to see him on the today show. I think he's been unfairly blamed, and you know, if you're a bears fan or you play for the bears your coach the bears if you didn't want it to come down to Cody parkey, then you should have done something different. Because it came down to him. How about play defense? How about stop them on fourth and goal not? None of those things matter. No. Of course, not just the kick. Because it's doing doing it. Don't think. Yeah. That's a better story. Don't block. Yeah. But he hit the post hit both of them. Yeah. Doing doing Campbell eighty five bears. Never kicked him. No fourth out every time. Yeah. They made them all well, they had Butler by didn't even use of these like having him around because he's cool. I like his nickname is bud head when you I been around Jim McMahon and Kevin Butler was great field goal kicker. And he would he would say, hey, Butthead. Yes for Cody was to miss that kick at the beer vent. The little grew him. I need that extra. Friday. Fritzy, Cranston in the building you're feeling good. Very good. Bryan. Cranston showed up an hour early. The did. Did you give him the wrong time? No, he just finished whatever he was doing early. And he said his PR people said as long as there's a green room for him to hang out make some calls by TD. He didn't feel when can because he got here..

"Oh, man thinking a lot about it all the time. I know I live they've had like three winning seasons of my wife me. Yeah. And I think the reds have one one series. All right. Yes. Yes. All about I think some emails from the game with all sixteen games this year. I say, yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. It's a good time. But here's the thing everybody. I'm fired Marvin. Five years too late. Moore's I don't know like I expect him to hire new accent. And like I obviously don't want that. I agree with you. The enemy would definitely be my number one. But like. Mike brown. So like I've already convinced myself rationalize in my head. And it's like, oh, well, maybe it won't be that bad. We have Jackson, which I know, you know, who fan base. Yes. Won't be that upset because I know Mike Brown eggs happen. But I think we have a healthy. It's all about walk a little bit. Because we have a really good Rosser where we say healthy. We could be contenders. You know, just like are we to win a playoff game in my lifetime? Like, I I still don't marry. It's it's rough out there, man. Really is. I feel the pain. Oh, great. Will it be though, like the reds everyone in the World Series the Bengals World Series, the next like awesome? You got that? Hey, alex. You're the man good hearing from you. Thank you have a good night. I think the more I think about this on the fly. I'm processing multiple things at the same time in my head hurts. I don't think I'd give up a third round pick. I think I'd give up a fifth round pick. I might give up a fifth and a seven I might give up multiple. I don't think I'd give up a third. I mean, that's awfully that's rich as they say that's a top one hundred pick up a fifth fifth. Now, you're talking one fifty one sixty range somewhere around there. I think give up a fifteen and maybe more in our make believe made up trade. A by the way. Have you heard what they are doing at goose island beer in Chicago. You know, the bears kicker. Cody perky is taken all kinds of crap for the the field goal. That was actually tipped goose island. Beer company is willing to give a bears fan a year supply of free beer if he or she can make a forty three yard field goal. In fact, they tweeted the following yesterday. A lot of armchair kickers on here meeting their Twitter feed are saying that they could kick that field goal, which we find doubtful. You're gonna sit there on your throne, a potato chips in vape, pens, and criticized this dudes athleticism, get real. So you know, what we're gonna do build a dang field goal post in the middle of the street outside our brewery, and all you pro athletes can come out and prove us wrong. So get this goose island beer company this weekend during normal taproom hours. You'll have a chance to show off your kicking leg. If you hit a four. Thirty three yard field goal. You'll win beer for a year any ternal glory. They write that from goose island beer company in Chicago. By the way, if anybody knows how to get my hands on the there is a brand of goose island beer that I cannot find anywhere around here. I had it at a place called burger story. Casey. And I were in Indianapolis for Pacers and heat. There's a burger place just down from bankers. Life called the Bruce story Bruce story. Excellent burgers. Anyway, I had a beer goose island beer call. Now. Don't laugh and don't say that's appropriate. It's called old man grumpy pale ale, and I'm telling you, it's excellent. But I can't find it anywhere near if anyone knows if anybody in the Santa my voice as a liquor store outlet that sells distributes old, man. Grumpy pale ale sign me up..
