"Were reaching up to new highs bonds were tame and we had a new infrastructure package All was right with the world But then Wednesday hit and consumer inflation numbers came in high higher than anyone really expected An annualized increase of 6.2% That's the highest in nearly 30 years Austin golsby of the Chicago booth school said it's not going away anytime soon Look it's a big number and whether you're team permanent or team temporary everybody agrees It's going to be months of this before you see any relief And San Francisco fed president Mary Daly while saying it was too soon to change course admitted that the inflation numbers really did get her attention Inflation is high higher It's eye popping This is a transitory period That's what we believe That's what I think when I look out at the data but it's directly related to COVID And as quickly we get through COVID the better off we're going to be as an economy But the week wasn't over yet As electric vehicle maker rivian went to market and blew past the price set for the IPO The results of what the rivian CEO said was a true team effort You spent years and years putting this together and really what's so exciting is seeing such a diverse group of people with diverse backgrounds and interests really coming together to create these products and standing there looking out at the teams as we rang the bell It was quite emotional Seeing so many passionate faces It was really powerful And three corporate giants GE Johnson & Johnson and toshiba all decided to break themselves up with GE CEO Larry cope saying it was all about focus These businesses will be more focused They'll be higher greater level of accountability We should have sharper capital allocation more strategic flexibility And frankly I think it's going to be good for the team as well I think we'll end up with investor bases focused on these pure plays investors that are probably under invested in GE today You put all that together it's clear This is the best path for us to unlock and create value going forward And when the dust settled from foot is fairly called a wild week it left equities down for the first time since early October though not as much because of a Friday rally with the S&P 500 off about three tenths of a percent The NASDAQ down 7 tenths But really much of the action was over the Bond side with the ten year yield up to well over 1.5% And inflation concerns driving the ten year tips up to over 2.7% To take us through the week and what it taught us we welcome now Greg Peter's co CIO of pgim fixed income and Sarah ketterer CEO of causeway capital management So let's start on the equity side Welcome Sarah Give us a sense of the equities because we started the week really at record levels and then the inflation numbers hit but then they came back up at the end of the week Yes they did The inflation seems to be out of the bottle And markets have to digest that The technology stocks many of them seem to have such significant market shares or competitive positioning the market is giving them credit for being able to price this inflation pass it on to consumers But there are many both industries and sectors according to our team where that won't necessarily be the case And that's really the job of the fundamental research analyst is to determine whether or not a business say it's consumer Staples and food beverage can they pass on their increased cost of raw materials into their final product Because if they can't that means margin squeeze and that means earnings will all the other things being equal will decline which is not good for market So Greg when we see inflation numbers like this we automatically think about what it is a bond And perhaps most important what it says to the fed and how they might react What did you make of this week Yeah I think that's the story what it makes what it tells you about the fed and Central Bank action ultimately And so there's been this response in the bond market really before the CPI print that inflation is picking up and more importantly that the fed is going to be much more aggressive and central banks globally much more aggressive than initially anticipated So I think that is the story in the marketplace the two year yield and then equally this is a volatile market in fixed income that has been largely isolated in fixed income So what you're seeing is this disconnect and volatility in fixed income and equities And yes it does make some sense for sure as the earnings coming out are quite strong margins all time high The micro story is quite supportive But at some point the volatility that we're seeing and fix income markets have to start to infiltrate other markets and risk markets if it doesn't settle down But could get the same time how much is the fed sort of putting a blanket on that volatility Even given what we've seen because certainly they've made it pretty clear they're not in a rush to change course You just heard very daily say well we're not going to change course right away Yeah but change their rhetoric quite substantially since the summer And if you look at the bond market yield into two year and even inflation it's been commensurate with the change in fed tone So I don't know I'm really worrying about the fed here moving too fast too soon particularly when you think about the construct of inflation that it's largely outside of the fed control So the fed raising rates isn't going to help offset the supply chain issues It's not going to have those kind of facts like it normally does Okay thank you so very much for being with us That's Greg Peters He is co CIO of pgim Hetero causeway capital is going to be sticking with us as we turn our attention to all those big corporate breakups this week That's next on Wall Street week on Bloomberg.

"Issues facing the U.S. economy like labor shortages inflation supply chain disruptions When they first arose amid pandemic related shutdowns back in March 2020 we asked economist Austin goules be what it would take to get the economy back on track The most important thing in a moment of virus economics is to slow the spread of the virus But then the second is how much permanent damage is done for however long we're shut down Well we wanted to know what he thinks now So we call it the former chief of president Obama's council of economic advisers Austin ghouls be welcome back to all things considered Thanks for having me back So you know when we talk to you back then we talked a lot about the need for the stimulus packages to prevent permanent damage to the economy What do you think now is the economy permanently damaged You know I at least feel good that I don't sound crazy from the beginning many of us were saying by far the most important thing for the economy is get control of this virus And we've seen after all these months it's still the case that whenever the virus comes surging back the economy goes back in the tank I continue to think it's not permanent damage Maybe that's converting into a hope that it's not permanent damage But the fact that for the first half of this year when we got control of the virus and it was improving you saw really rapid robust booming economy The economy wants to come back We just have to give it the conditions that we can go back to spending money on services Okay well then let's take some of the most important factors that are concerning about the economy right now Let's start with inflation Explain how the pandemic keeps driving up prices The pandemic's driving up prices in a bunch of sectors that were heavily affected by the pandemic And so when demand comes booming back in areas where they can't satisfy the demand in the short run you're going to get inflation It's not unlike our discussion back in March of 2020 about toilet paper shortages You know there's a huge increase in demand for residential toilet papers Everybody's staying home That's driving the price up It's getting stocked out And that's pandemic created inflation in a microcosm That same thing is happening now Okay let's talk about that production capacity because we are seeing these huge bottlenecks in the supply chain right now Explain how those bottlenecks are driven by the pandemic I think of it as two ways this is happening One is every country is trying to come back very rapidly all at the same time And the global supply chain is not really equipped for massive fluctuations like that And then the second thing is that the pandemic shifted what we buy away from services which is what we spend most of our money on to physical goods Right TVs furniture cars and until our demand is able to go back to services IE the virus goes down so you can whatever go out and get a massage go to restaurant until that happens We're still going to be dealing with excess demand compared to the capacity and that's leading supply chain shortage Well as an economist I'm wondering if you would like to make a prediction on when all of this stuff we're talking about with the economy will settle down I think it's at least going to be months and it's going to be annoying You're still going to go to the store and they're going to be various things that you can't get and I'm sure that there will be new ones that show up that we haven't even thought of yet So I anticipate at least 6 months of grumpy But hopefully within the year we'll be growing faster than normal because we're catching back up All right I embracing myself for several months of grumpy Austin golsby is a professor at the University of Chicago booth school of economics Thank you very much for speaking with us Yeah it's always a pleasure Thank you for having me The Biden administration has unveiled a major shift in the way it plans to help people with drug addiction stay alive This comes as overdoses have surged causing roughly a 100,000 deaths in a single year The new plan focuses on what's known as harm reduction That means providing support and care for people while they're still actively using drugs NPR addiction correspondent Brian Mann reports When Javier becerra talks about America's addiction crisis the Health and Human Services secretary says the fight is radically different now than it was just a year ago Drug overdose and death has reached a point where we can't wait The Sarah says the pandemic and the spread of the synthetic opioid fentanyl made use of all street drugs far more deadly So he says the federal government will now directly support ideas known broadly as harm reduction That means backing clean syringe exchange programs and providing fentanyl test strips to help active drug users identify contaminated street drugs We are literally trying to give users a lifeline We're willing to go to places where our opinion and our tendencies have not allowed us to go In an interview with NPR but Sarah suggested his department might be open to one of the most controversial harm reduction ideas creation of safe consumption sites Those are locations proposed in New York City Philadelphia and other communities where people might use illegal drugs under some kind of supervision to minimize the risk of overdose We're not going to say but you can't do these other types of supervised consumption programs that you show that you think work or that Evan shows work But in a statement sent to NPR an HHS spokesperson walked back becerra's comment saying the agency wasn't endorsing supervised drug use sites Authority for allowing that kind of program would lie with the Justice Department Supervised drug use sites have never been approved in the U.S. but many other harm reduction strategies have been in place on a small scale around the country for years Often operated by grassroots groups or by local governments There's data suggesting they work lowering death rates But the programs often face pushback from law enforcement and local leaders In states like North Carolina Pennsylvania.

"Deal in the us hurls closer to reaching the debt ceiling concerns over inflation. Our circling president by republicans criticize the administration for spending too much and joe manchin issuing warnings about the risks of overheating. The economy here to break it. All down is mild friend university of chicago professor and the former chairman of the council of economic advisers. Austin golsby goes harry buddy. Hey man we're getting the band back together. That's right that's right. I want to start with the labor department report yesterday. Which showed that consumer prices are up. Five point four percent over last year. What can you help us understand that report and put it in some context. Yeah okay so. The the consumer price index they keep track of a of a bundle of goods. They call it and they just follow the prices of that of that bundle overtime now with we had a surge of prices. But if you kinda peel back the onion a little and look at the report. A lot of people were sort of relieved even though it was a big headline number if you took out the categories that are obviously pandemic related like rental cars an air fares and stuff like that the inflation rate is coming down And so there's argument going on among the economists. Is this a sign of permanent inflation. And we're kind of going back to the seventy s or is this just a temporary thing. Not unlike when we had a shortage of toilet paper we had a shortage of hand. Sanitizer stuff like that. I've been more on team. Temporary they call it which is to say it's the virus that's doing these bottlenecks and they're gonna get sorted out over a couple of months but we definitely saw a burst of price inflation especially concentrated in these pandemic categories. What is the specific part Pandemic related driving. Those specific categories will the biggest one by far is cars and cars is a big component of the if if the car component is two percent five percent of total spending. I'd have to guess it was at least twenty to twenty five percent of the increase in overall prices was just from that one category And that's for a couple of reasons but one of the main one being. They can't get computer chips so they can't make new cars to go out to a new car dealership you know. They're they're parking the cars with two or three spaces between each one to make it look like they have more cars than they have and so the rental car people who normally by a bunch of new cars. They can't get. They can't get cars for the rental fleet so rental car prices are up. All the travel related stuff is and then that's spilling over onto used cars which are up even more than the new cars are up. Are we a victim of our own success in some way here in the sense that the economy has come back faster than at least these businesses thought they would in terms of their production lines and things like that. Yeah that's kind of an interesting idea. That's a nice way to think about. I think we are a victim of our own success in the sense that we came back fast and when you come back fast there was a fundamental shift of what people were spending their money on. And that's what went wrong at the start of the pandemic when the toilet paper crisis. It wasn't primarily because people were hoarding toilet paper. It was mainly because there's two totally different manufacturers of toilet paper. There's office toilet paper which comes on a big role and the residential toilet paper which is like fluffy sharman and suddenly a third of the workforce decided that it was going to be working from all day and so there's no residential toilet paper and they're having a great depression of the bathroom in the office toilet paper of business. That's the same kind of thing that's happening now. And so i do think we're we're a little bit the curse by our own success now in business there people who use a phrase. I think it's a dumb phrase but they say the cure for high prices is high prices at and what they mean by that is nothing gets the supply chain fixed quicker than being able to make so much money because the prices are this high so the route. If you want to rent a car. I was going to take my son to yellowstone for graduating from high school to rent a car. Montana was going to be seven hundred dollars per day. Okay so yellowstone's back going anywhere so we're gonna go to yellowstone a different time but at seven hundred dollars per day. There's some people. I know guy who lives in montana. He was like seven hundred dollars a day. You can rent my car. i'll drive. That's the sense in. Which i think that within six months we're going to have sorted out most of these but it's still a little hairy. It's getting kinda disturbing fill. Your car is like fifty five bucks to fill your car in is that is the gas prices pandemic or is that something else. 'cause all the biden administration called on opec to produce more oil and as we as anyone who's ever been in politics as gas prices a huge driver of economic. It's the one thing you can't cut back on you cannot go to yellowstone right but you still fill up your car and drive your kids at school and drive to work every day and got the grocery store etc. Yeah and it's a very public price. Though you know maybe with so many people working from home maybe it will be less impactful than it than it always was. You know when we were thinking about it. I think there is more going on with the price of gas in opec. countries are fighting with each other. Some of them did they don't wanna produce because they want the price to go up more but there is a pandemic component. Which is we've been cooped up for a year and a half and people are like. I'm going on a trip. And so they're they're packing up and were setting records on a on car based vacations and that usage before you've gotten the refinery capacity backup and while the people in opec are not playing ball. It's going to drive up prices in short run for sure he after the senate passed the the the budget resolution the other night. Joe manchin put out a statement where he talked about concerns about the size of three point five trillion dollar size of the the by economic plan and saying that we were on the verge of overheating. The economy that's something republicans have been saying. What is that mean When say that is that something that you see is as a risk with the amount of money being put the economy of all these things pass. I guess i would say two things. The first thing that emphasized their the republicans keep saying od three point five trillion dollars but remember. That's over ten years and that's about eight percent increase in the budget. Still the this is not the three point. Five trillion number. Sounds like something quite different than than what. It is the root of the problem. When you think about overheating as an economist. You're asking okay. What's the potential. And are we going to get so much money and so much activity that we exceed our potential. If you've seen the potential you probably would start driving up prices because the it. It has nowhere else to go. I have not really viewed this as us getting much above potential for the reason that if you look in the last thirty years three different times we've gotten the unemployment rate down much lower than where we are now. So if you look at the end of the nineties if you look in the mid two thousand before the great recession and if you look from twenty seventeen when the unemployment rate was four and a half percent and then we cut taxes two trillion dollars on top of it all three of those times. We didn't see sustained inflation now. The unemployment rate in improperly corrected to be apples to apples is around six percent. Okay so it's well above the three and a half percent or four percent that it got down to and didn't generate inflation. So i think we're not really in danger of overheating. That's just a matter of this thing of is this a temporary bottleneck or is this sustained. Overheating i'm on the temporary bottle. Exide there was a period earlier this year when the first sort of inflation numbers across the or the price of consumer goods went up where there were some who were pretty. Dismissive of this is a very very temporary thing. It's just about the pandemic. don't worry about it in the last. It even still believe it's temporary. There's been a shift in rhetoric. A minor particularly our old colleague. Lary summers talked about it. A lot of people were very dismissive of his view. Inflation was going to be a big problem. The rhetoric around inflation's change among democrats. The by president by can use every tool available to deal with the help.

So happy to spend a a waiver claim on him certainly had of those wide receivers that we're talking about minus the eighty percenters and yeah I, just I. P PR FOR SURE NON-PWI PR. He's going to get eyeballs. They're going to be some unhappy campers with what they got out of some tight ends of the waiver wire this week off the out of the draft, and they might go to replace Scott or with them, and I don't blame him. What if Hodgkinson's available because that's another guy that my sixty seven percent rostered and you're thinking well, I don't want to miss the breakout here the second. would be he would be right behind Goddard. Okay. If you're. Really, close there's two things that play with both those guys, and clearly it's going to determine what happens when somebody comes back for Parkinson the best receiver was missing her. So. We'll see how Golsby's return impacts him and then for the eagles. They for whatever reason didn't play on Jackson A lot. You Know Doug Peterson trying to spend it yesterday that you know that was just the plan going in his neck count but alshon could return at some point as well and then I think we gotta find out how they're going to operate. You know they still go with these two tight end sets is you're GONNA play head of Irks you know is, is the contract play? You know? Do They not want to pay? Because Dow's got it is so good and it's the passing of the torch a little bit. You know in fact got her can just do Zakar does from a production standpoint that's probably a minor thing you know because the need to win but I think you're going to see an end hit on this Emily Johnson back was offensive line looks dramatically different. They're not going to be beat up as they were work Carson Wentz. is running for his life and getting eight sacks and they're obviously not going to face a defensive front like they faced against Washington, which is going to be a brown for a lot of teams based on how they got after went and took apart that offensive line as well. So I think God is going to be good I. Don't know if he's going to be this good, but he was a top ten last year. So. It's hard. Overlook the way he performed now over Seventeen Games van going back Dr Gray Yeah and it's six or more targets for Goddard in eight straight games going back to last year. He's great well, but he wasn't he wasn't actually that great. He was a little disappointed. He was very disappointing considering all the targets and when he got like eight to ten target say he was great and he got nine targets at Washington. I was. Yeah. We'll see. Carson. wentz continues to throw a ton that's like eight games in a row or something with forty or more pass attempts but maybe mile sanders coming back would change that we shall see. Her, it's going to be popular and with good reason. So let's talk about Fab your free agent budget here. How much for whom? I don't see myself spending a lot for anybody because there isn't a slam dunk and Becau because Snell hines and Brown are all going to be available I, think put in somewhere close to the same amount for each of the three. You've got a good chance of getting one of them, which is what you think Like I'm thinking, you're getting shut out you definitely get shut out. Okay. That's fine with me because none of these three are I sure starters the rest of the way well, it what you need I mean obviously the connor owner O'Connor manager you know you're going to look spend probably a little bit more on snow you're gonNA look to spend a little bit more. If you're the MARLIN MAC fantasy manager, you know anybody that lost somebody significant is going to go a little bit. More. Aggressive with their fab because they WANNA make sure they have a starter or flags or whatever. The case may be. If you're rosters depleted and and format size matters, you know fourteen leaks sixteen team leagues guys don't become available like this if they are on the free agent wire but on the waiver wire, but I think you're looking at it as I'm with, you know the way that I wrote it was You know around twenty percent no, I just think there's no. The your roster really going to determine it i. mean that's just the way to look at it. You know we're going to be in a lot of leagues where somebody spends thirty forty percent just because they. Don't know how to use their fab budget the right way because they're doing it for the first time or be they just got decimated by injuries and you know you wanNA source would your fantasy season before it goes out? I'll although I'll go against just a little bit because I'll push back on that. I, think that. I compared Chris Towers had us, fill out a week to survey last night. Chris. Towers Authors are newsletter you should sign up for that CBS sports dot. com. Slash. Newsletters..

"It was a boat. Go to any favorite place any safe feeling place any place. That feels comfortable and good to you. It's a sacred place that you create in your spirit deep within your soul ask the Holy Spirit to anoint your imagination as you enter into that place. 'em Picture Jesus and talk to Jesus and ask him to help you through his Holy Spirit to hear him and then whatever you hear if it doesn't contradict scripture if it doesn't contradict the teachings of the church which by the way are all based on scripture. If it is good if it blesses you if it's not making excuses for sin for example or telling you something that you'd like to hear because it's something the world is saying and you want to believe that that's true but somewhere inside of you wondering maybe it's not true at you're uncomfortable with your inner spirit. This into the Holy Spirit knows that is against the teachings of Christ as long as you are hearing something that is good. That is true as in you can look it up in scripture and see that. It's true by the way I'm not talking about scriptural Bingo Bible Bingo where you can open up the Scriptures and point to something and take it out of context and make it imply something that you want to imply that it's not really what is intended by God for it to imply we can use scriptures the wrong way. Hey Satan you scriptures the wrong way when he tried to tempt Jesus at the beginning of Jesus's ministry so you also need to get to know. Scripture DO Bible Studies. We have things available on the news ministries website to help you with that. The daily reflections that are sent out on the readings of mass greatly help with that. We also have other things other resources on our various websites. That will help help you get to know scripture better help you get to know church teachings more thoroughly and help you get to know. Jesus better as a result of these things. So when you're talking to Jesus if it is good if it is a blessing to hear it if it heals if it helps if it is true and doesn't contradict scripture trust and believe that that really is Jesus talking to you. If you're asking a question about the future like you know Lord I want you to tell me is something going to happen or what's going to happen or something that you need to know super naturally now other words you don't know it by yourself and you you're asking. Jesus to reveal it to you this is where your trust in the Holy Spirit working through your imagination needs to be tested. You need to talk to people who are spirit filled and ask them to pray with you and for you to help you know whether what you think you've heard from. Jesus is true. You need to give it the test of time you need to let Jesus prove that. It was really him and he will do that. He will prove it's really him and he wants you to ask for that proof and wait for that. Proof is not an insult to him. Not at all when you wait for him to prove it but if he's proven it more than a couple of times and you still say we meant that can't be the. Lord you know I I I want more proof. Then he begins to say. What are you procrastinating? Why are you procrastinating? Come on let's let's move on here. We test what we hear from Jesus by relying on people that God puts into our lives who have such a good relationship with Jesus and with his Holy Spirit so that they can be good instruments of confirming echoing maybe shedding even further. Light on what you have heard Jesus say going to a spiritual director is also another way to do this. Especially that spiritual director is active in a live in a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and spends time discerning and praying about you and what you think the Lord might be saying to you. Another way to get confirmation is to wait for the Lord to say it's through scriptures that pop up to your attention or songs Christian songs and he can even use non-christian songs as long as they're not Satanic Keno and not evil not filled with hatred and other bad stuff but guide. We'll speak through music guide. We'll speak through the lyrics of songs. God will speak through a beautiful piece of Art. Golsby through the timing. Coincidences of things. Look for coincidences so called. Quote Unquote coincidences. That deal with that reminds you of what you're waiting to receive. Confirmation of guide will confirm it. And if it's important enough if it's a very important decision for example you can even go so far as to say Lord is really is from you than fill in the blank. What would help you know that God himself is saying yes. This is what I'm telling you you're hearing me. It could be something as simple as when I go to work today. Give me green lights in the traveling by car you know. Give me green lights all the way or it could be something else such as an this is one of my favorites whenever dealing with a decision. Lord if this is really your idea then open doors in other words instead of me going to say Ken. This door be opened by my own effort. God is telling me I think to go do this over here. If I go over there I can possibly make it happen on my own but if I wait till God opens the door. Somebody is going to come through that door and say. Hey Terry come. Would you do this? There are many many ways God is infinitely creative in how he confirms his will for our lives how he confirms the message that he's giving you when he's asking us to do something we can trust the waiting time. 'cause sometimes we think maybe. I should act on it right away. Maybe there's an urgency to this and I need to act on it right away but remember. God knows how much time it's going to take. God knows before you even hear the first inkling from him about this topic. Whatever it is God knows how much time you need to receive confirmation. So he's not going to rush you into something at the last minute. He's not going to speak. For example. Your pastor comes to you and says I would like you to start up a ministry in the power that goes out and feeds the homeless. That's just an example. Think about what. Maybe you've been asked to do so using my example if the pastor says I want you to start a ministry for the homeless and he says I want you to start right now but we say okay. I'm GonNa go and pray on this. The pastor is going to respect that if he doesn't respect that you have to wonder whether he's really speaking for the Holy Spirit or speaking for Jesus Christ because one thing a very wise priests once told me is that Satan drives Jesus leads so if you feel driven to do something that's probably not Jesus Jesus leads. He says come over here and he gives us enough time. He pre plans into this whole process of discerning. His will the time that we need to receive confirmation that this really is from the Lord so for example of the pastor. Says I want you to start up this ministry and you say okay. Let me go prey on it and in the time that you are waiting to hear from the Lord about it the Lord is knowing fully. How much time you need. And how much time the ministry needs. The Pastor needs homelessness. Whatever the Holy Spirit knows exactly what is going to take to convince you that it really is him and he respects that and even once that so don't worry about rushing into anything wait until you have confirmation and while you're waiting rely on the Holy Spirit more and more keep praying come Holy Spirit the prayer that I end each podcast with pray that or something like it because in these prayer times asking the Holy Spirit to come and fill you to come and teach you to come and guide you to come and instruct you to come in renew you this builds up your ability to hear Jesus when you go and.

"Fun. Most thing is having fun with my family. Yeah. Well, and that's the thing because that's what Borana really is all about. I mean, you go folks if you've never been out to the track you're missing out. I mean, there's a lot of depression speedway went away. But. I hope I don't get any hate mail. But I think the atmosphere at Borana is more family fun and entertaining speedway. Am I right? I I was pretty young when to hone was around. And I more along the lines wanted to drive rather than watch. I was in the stands a few times. But yeah, you're right. You can't bring a motorhome to hone speedway and have a barbecue and opened up a cooler and just have a good old time as your family, right? So I mean, I miss alcohol speedway for numerous reasons. But Verona speedway really does a great job when it comes to having a family environment. Well, I think so to an end to bring the kids in let me give him a great opportunity. I mean, everybody from the flagman to the answer to the safety crew and the other competitors. They'll do whatever it takes to get these guys on the track. You know, if you have a mechanical issue, you're missing apart, my part, you're part. Yeah. Like that mentality is much tighter than at speedway. I've been in the pits before. Was a lot of sharing. Golsby seems like it's a little more serious when it's on the asphalt, isn't it? Yeah. You know, and. Your car breaks for the night. And you're like cool, and I have to worry about that guy. And in the dirt. It seems like all the guys cars broke I often see if I have a party needs because we don't for one we're low on car count. And we need them out there. And I think I think what you and your and your and your wife could probably test to this that by giving your children involved in motor sports makes them better children. I think so I do a piece amount of trouble. It gives them something to do. You know when I get home from work during the week. We're out in the shop working on the race cars. And you know, sometimes they're looking forward to me coming home and and waiting sitting there at the doors at home. I gotta go out in the shop on cars. The kids are like, let's go work. And I think it's great teaching not trouble. I think you're absolutely right. And you know, but you know, it's interesting because you home school where if they go to a public school. You know, there's that carat cushion still have the sherzer because if doesn't meet mom standards, guess what? Yeah. Racist race this weekend. Yep. So gauge we heard from your brother and your sister on what number they drive and what color their car is. What about you drive, the twenty five car and my car is button? Green black and green. Okay. And so the numbers you guys just made the numbering real easy. Yeah. Three twenty four twenty five mess that one out. Gotten a little sideways on your when you were racing last season. Yeah. What happened? Drifted did you like that? I kind of too I like drifting. That's why I like dirt better than asphalt bionic, and you can have to me. Because he's really you're right. It's all about having fun. Right. Getting out there, slipping and sliding and. I know I I've been signed up to go out in the what may or some. Yeah. Yeah. I can't wait. Are you gonna reach one of the celebrity cars? Yeah. I did donate a couple of the celebrity cars. Eric Evans nine motorsports. Yeah. He's been busing. His you know, what great get those things ready. Yup. Gave them a crime victim. He's to be. We're gonna me and Eric Evans are going to run the enduro with it. An Eric Evans Billy Baldwin duo ought to do the trail. Oh my God. Too old speedway, and Eric I I gave one of my I had a coast before Michelle and took her out there and strapped her in the air IX car God, you could hear screaming on golf track. Expanding down ads in this. He was at Tabitha. This one was malady. Melanie? Absolutely. Yeah. Great. Okay. So you're going to stay in the same car for twenty nineteen season. Yes. And then just go out have some fun tried to get higher up in the standings. You do last year. Not bet you enjoyed it. You learn from it. Yes. A lot because dad probably puts a little bit more on you than any other to 'cause you're going to be the you're gonna be the mechanic, right? So. Yeah. Well, that's your sponsors. Yeah. Yeah. Who you sponsors Kenny way towing? As she transport, then we're trying to get overall detailing. PRI crane. Trader. At the end you say county I like to think roller speedway. "Pardon. Episode fifty two covered. The case of Reagan Tokes Reagan was a twenty one year old Ohio State University student who is murdered on the night of February eighth two thousand seventeen Reagan had just left work and was walking to her car when she was forced into her car by a man, she did not know who then kidnapped and killed her. The thing about Reagan's case that sit out to me was how the killer a man named Brian golsby had been out on parole and had been wearing an ankle monitor the night that she was killed. Brian had quite a scary criminal past including instances of horrific violence against women and not only that. But when Brian was serving time in prison for those crimes he was less than an ideal inmate. He racked up forty five citations yet when a six year prison term had ended he was fitted with an ankle monitor and released, and that's when he went on to kidnap and kill. Kill reagan. I told you the episode how Reagan's family started working with legislators to pass the Reagan Tokes act, which would change violent offenders and Ohio are sentenced. We'll just if you weeks ago in December two thousand eighteen a portion of the Reagan Tokes act was signed into law. That portion allows a judge to sentence violent offender to a range of years in prison as opposed to a set term. So a fed offender then Rex up citations while imprison as Brian golsby. Did he could spend more time in prison. But if that offender is well behaved on the other hand, he could then serve less. Reagan's family told reporters that they feel that the Bill will help make a high. Oh, safer. My most downloaded episode of two thousand eighteen was the episode. I did on the Christopher Coleman case that was back in pursued fifty six entitled tragedy in Columbia, Illinois. This was the second case I've done since starting court junkie that involved a father murdering his entire family his wife his kids just a really despicable heinous atrocious. Act in November two thousand eight thirty one year old Sheri Coleman and her two young sons eleven-year-old Garrett and nine year olds Gavin were found to ceased in their home in Columbia, Illinois. Sheri's husband Christopher Coleman was convicted of the murders. After a grueling trial in which Christopher's defense tried to claim that he had nothing to do with it. But the prosecution's evidence was overwhelming the family had allegedly been receiving death threats in the months leading up to the murders. And the prosecution introduced evidence that the threats actually came from Christopher's own computer. He was sentenced to three life sentences. This was another case that I had followed back when it first happened and one that I again knew that I wanted to eventually cover, but what really made it my mind was an Email. I received from one of Sherry's cousins friends that friend sent me a link to a news article about the case and asked if I would be able to cover it in an episode. She told me that her friend Jenna who is Sherry his cousin would definitely be interested in talking about it. So I reached out to Jenna and she helped me with the episode. She gave me some family background talked about how she found out about. What had happened? What Sherry and her little boys were like, and that's a sensually how I put that up sewed together. Christopher Coleman is still in prison. Although he is seeking a new trial as you'll recall Christopher had been having an affair with the woman named Tara who also happen to be a friend of Sherry's. An at trial some explicit photos of the two of them were introduced photos that Christopher's defense team is saying should have never been admissible. So if there's any update on that front, I'll be sure to let you know. The last episode of the year doesn't have an update. But I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about it. Anyway, it's an episode that I'm not gonna lie is one of my favorites for lack of a better term. And what I mean by that is I put a lot of thought into the way I wanted to present the facts of the case in I do that for every episode to a certain extent, but for this one Ida very specific goal in mind one that meant a lot to me to be able to carry it out. And that goal was to make Genero Sanchez. The main focal point of the story again. Before I get into what I mean by that. Here's a quick recap of the case in December. She twelve eighteen year old Genero Sanchez was shot and killed by a fellow student named Jared Murray at east central university in ADA Oklahoma when questioned by investigators about why he did it Jared said he had wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone. And when asked if he felt remorse he said, he only regretted being caught so quickly. The interrogation is extremely Erie. Jared sounds like a polite college kid, he says, yes, sir. And no, sir. And he's extremely calm. And matter of fact, as he describes the murderer when I first heard about this case, it was because I came across Jerry's interrogation video which you can find all over the internet, including on YouTube. And in fact, if you Google anything about this case, the main stories that come up are all about Jared. And there's very little mention of his victim Genero. I started looking more into Genero, and I found a Facebook page run by his aunt called in memory of g his aunt keeps it pretty updated. And there is one entry in particular that caught my eye where she talked about. How upset the family was by some of the coverage. The case had gotten at sided to reach out to her to see if she would be interested in helping me tell genera story, she put me in touch with Generose mom who I interviewed in the episode. So after I interviewed generis mom, I remember hanging up the phone with her about an hour and a half worth of audio saved. And my computer that I would then go through to see what pieces of audio clips would go where in the episode, and I remember feeling not overwhelmed necessarily, but determined I wanted to make sure I told the story in a thoughtful and respectful way. And I wanted to make sure that the focus was on Genero his family what they've had to go through and changes to the law that they advocated for I knew I had to include a lot of Jared's interrogation. It's essential part of the story after all, and you really get a feel for the Irina he conveys when he speaking to the detectives but other than the interrogation which took up about twenty minutes of the episode. I wanted to make sure that the remaining forty minutes or so was filled with more about Genero himself and his family and how missed he is. I remember when I was talking. Two genera 's mom, she said Jared at one point had referred to Genero as quote that. Boy, he didn't even care enough to know his name. I remember her telling me, and that's when I decided I wanted to call the episode. His name was Genero Sancez after I released the episode. I had quite a number of people reach out some people who even knew Genero, and although you can never be sure when you release your episode if you accomplished your goal, I'm hopeful that I did. But either way it serves as a reminder to myself that these people that we all hear about through various true crime mediums are real people with real family members and loved ones who are immensely affected by what happened, and I don't think that I could ever be successful with his podcast. If I ever forget, that fact.
