"Too powerful, golovkin at age 40 just didn't have enough left in the tank. But Sergio, we agreed this was a lopsided fight. I officially scored it ten rounds to two. I pulled my media brethren from ringside. They had a ten to 11 one somehow. Two of the judges of Canelo golovkin three had it one 15 one 13, which means if golovkin had won one more round, we would have had another draw, which would have been wild. Incredible. You got the opinion of your writers and your brethren. I got the opinion of former world champions. Mark on Tony barrero, Sean Porter, Daniel Jacobs, Jessica mccaskill. Myself, all of us escorted the same two rounds max for golovkin. I think barrera set three. But either way, three rounds max. How the hell, the Steve weisfeld I considered one of the best judges in boxing, having one 15 one 13. I mean, three, three judges had it that closed one 61 12 and two one 51 13. 16 one 12 is not a choice. That's no, no, that's not a choice. She's one 51 13 is the disgusting one because that means that last round it would have been another draw and can you imagine if we would have had another draw, we would have to see a fourth fight. We got a clear winner tonight. That was Canelo Álvarez. It wasn't the knockout that he wanted or the knockout that everyone expected. But it was a convincing win. It was a convincing when we got the right winter. I don't want to see a fourth fight. I do not want to see triple G at one 68 anymore. I don't even want to see triple G against the elite. If he wants to continue his career and not leave money on the table and fight mandatory challengers, I'm all for it at one 60. But if he was going to take a big fight against Charlotte against or anyone else, I Android at one 60, I just don't see it. I don't want it. Aloft and as a legend, I don't want to go backwards. Dave Moretti, as I look at the official scorecard at one 60 and one 12, that's fine. Steve weisfeld, did you mention one 15 one 13? He scored four of the last 5 rounds for Gennady Golovkin, which to be fair, golovkin did pick up the pace in the second half of this fight. David Sutherland, he scored four of the last 5 rounds for golovkin as well. Those were where the rounds I gave him. I gave him two of the last 5 rounds. I just think it's charitable, really. And that brings me to my point here. I know what you're going to say. Two of the judges. Weisfeld Moretti. They scored Canelo golovkin two. They scored it one 51 13 for Canelo. One of my immediate reactions is because judges are human. Like, does a part of them when they see go off can start to pick it up, just throw that triple jab. You throw them a bone. They don't give them the benefit. They throw them a bone and say, you know what? We didn't get it right. Three years ago, we didn't get it right the first time. We didn't get it right the second time. We finally got to throw triple G a bone, but this was the wrong bone to throw at because this was not the triple G that were accustomed to see in galav kin look every bit of his age. I mean, all right, so let's put aside the judging then and just talk about the fight. Did that go how you expected it to go? Or your reaction to how it went? No, it didn't. I just think galav can look old. He looked like an old fighter. There was no snappiness punch. There was no shotgun jab. He didn't eat the big drama showed in the ride. At any moment, I mean, even when he, when we gave him the rounds, it wasn't like he convincingly beat up Canelo or one of those runs convincingly is just, okay, go out and won that one. Canelo, on the other hand, he will be he was impressive, but he wasn't the canoe we expected. I expect he can now be ripping the body. I expect a canola will be backing them up. Really trying to pulverize golovkin, but obviously there was something there that he had to respect. It wasn't the jab and it wasn't body shots from galav Kim, but it must have been something. Okay, but I can't get off the judging, man. I can not get off the judgment. As long as we're going to have a deeper dive at some point to the judging, because it's got to be fixed. He wisefield, who I have tremendous respect for, you know, I always call him the gold standard in Boston. He's had a tough year. I mean, he gave, he gave the Canelo beeville fight one 15 one 13 for people. That was a lot wider than it should have been. And this flight was tough. David Sutherland, tough card, as well. You could tell from the opening bell gloff can look old, like he did. And we shouldn't be surprised because in the last four years, he has taken largely mid to low level fights. I mean, Sergey Darwin shanko, on paper, not a bad win, but that was derren shanko after he had fought Daniel Jacobs and after Jamal Charlotte. Was that Charlotte as well? So he was a little bit past his prime. Then you move on and he's fighting right out of Murata, who is a middleweight champion, but I think you'd agree the weakest of the middleweight champion title holding out there. Look, and he gave go off in trouble in the first few rounds. He heard golovkin the first round. You just didn't have the talent that Canelo has to do it. So I just thought gloff can look to his credit again. Like 6 round comes around and he starts to pick up the gas. Like he starts throwing. Yeah, 'cause Jonathan banks was getting on him. He's saying basically like, do everything we trained to do. We are prepared for this. You need to get more aggressive. You need to throw the jabs, you need to he was telling them everything you needed to hear, but galactic wasn't doing it because he couldn't pull the trigger anymore. The thing about getting older when you become an older fighter and you know my last fight was at 38. That's when I knew I won and I knew I was done with. Your legs go, but your confidence goes. And I didn't have power, see the thing about power punchers, they can actually fight until the older in their age, but golovkin, even as power wasn't enough. As power wasn't enough, the jab, the shotgun jab that he was so he was murdering people with that jacket. It wasn't there. The body punching Canelo early on. In the first two fights, he was throwing that jab, he was falling off the right hands. He looked a lot like most Canelo opponents who were timid about throwing the right hand because as you know, when you throw it, you expose yourself. And you leave yourself open for counter shots and Canelo was throwing heavy shots, especially in the first half of that fight. On Canelo, do I look great, man? I guess there were some questions about what Camilla would look like after a loss at Dmitri beeville, but back at his natural weight back at a 168 pounds. He looked like the best fighter in the world once again. I wouldn't go that far, man. I would say he looked really, really good. I wouldn't go with great. I wouldn't go with pound for pound number one. I think if you were to stop golovkin, then nobody stops go off again. I'll give you that. I'll give you that, but right now I can't go and say that I was a great performance about Canelo because you thought he won ten rounds the two. Why is that not a great performance? Canelo Álvarez, Gennady Golovkin, trilogy completing super middleweight championship undisputed status on the line. This is as big as it gets in boxing right now. And right now, Canelo Álvarez is a big favorite. -5 50, according to FanDuel, Gennady Golovkin plus four ten. I believe Alvarez wins. I know he's coming off a loss to Dmitri beeville, but talking to Canelo this week. It feels like he was more focused for this training camp than he was for beeville wasn't playing as much golf over the last few months and is really locked in on getting a clear win against his longtime rival. So take Canelo Álvarez to win this fight at -5 50, load up on it. He's going to win, I believe it. Now, how he wins. This week can make a little bit of money. Alvarez by decision is minus one ten. That's the bet that I like. A lot of people are saying Canelo Álvarez is going to go for a knockout. Could be the first guy to stop Gennady Golovkin. And maybe he will be. But Gennady Golovkin, even at age 40, has a granite chin and has it's a cliche, but has that heart of a champion. I just don't believe the golovkin is going to get stopped in what could be his final significant fight. So I'm taking kennel to win and I'm taking him to win by points. I think this fight is a little more clear on the scorecards than the previous two fights have been. So canola win Canelo win by points, those are my picks, brought to you by FanDuel. "A big bullseye on that midsection and hit go off and with some shots that I think are going to really hurt him. And as tough as golovkin is as unknowable as I think he is to the head, you can get stopped to the body. Golovkin should know. He stopped plenty of guys to the body during his run up the ranks at middleweight. I like to think to myself maybe 8 more pounds for golovkin after making one 60 forever might be beneficial to him at this stage of his career. Canelo coming down weight after whatever happens against Dmitry beeville, maybe that takes something out of him. So I'm searching maybe for paths to victory, but when I look at the shots, golovkin's taken to the body and is response to him. You know, Sergio Mora, he says it right. Is the body never forgets. And when you get hit that much the body and you go up against a big body puncher, something's going to give there. It's probably going to be you. Yeah, that's a good point, Chris. I mean, he is a vicious body puncher and he has not taken body shots well. The one thing that you mentioned that I thought was interesting because it was in the back of my mind, even though the fight was a very long time ago now, is two and a half years ago. He hadn't been in a real fight since then. He had only fought Camille's aramata who quite frankly didn't belong in the ring with even a 38 year old Gennady Golovkin when they fought. That was, that wasn't anything resembling a tough test for Gennady Golovkin. So since the derivative shanko fight, which was an absolute, I mean, Jesus. That was one of the best fights that I've seen from ringside for sure. I thought, and I think you might have even thought so too. There was the fight of the year in 2019. We just didn't know how he was going to fare against a real fighter..

But to wrap up a boxing, spent versus ugas three titles and a welterweight division this week. To his credit, I won't watch the Sean Porter fight again. That was a lot closer. And the judges had it. I was like, ah. Charles my boy. Sean got the, I'm the champion. You got to beat the nod. You got to take it from the champ. That was razor thin. Manny was clearly he couldn't solve the puzzle on short notice that was ugas. The Cuban style is different. So if you don't really prepare for it, he ain't going to give you much to hit. And now that they got the green lights go pro, I'm so happy to see where that goes in the future. 'cause they dominate amateur like it's nobody's business. Oh my goodness. So that's going to be great. And it's going to be interesting too because you have someone like Spence who uses things that a lot of fighters, especially a welterweight like the jab, a lot of great welterweights use the jab on a boxer's period, use the jab in it for defense mechanism, much like golovkin Spence uses an offensively. He could use a while coming forward. He mixes it in with his enclosed pocket type of sequences, mixes in with his combinations. When fighters like use that jab as a weapon, much like a glove can did, just last Saturday against mireille like those are the type of things that I think people are sometimes gloss over. And since we haven't seen Spence in a while, given the fact he pulled out against Manny, I think people are going to kind of have a realization, kind of like a snap back to reality where they realize Spence still is for good reason right next to Terrence Crawford as the one everyone is expecting to be. "So he's got a very bad combination of numbers working against him heading into a third Canelo fight. And then from Canelo's perspective, do you want to be looked at like you were now, it would be kind of silly to call get out of a love can a cherry pick. It's not a cherry pick, but would you want to be criticized for taking what would be perceived at least as an easier fight than David Benavidez. Now, David Benavidez certainly is not accomplished anything close to what Gennady Golovkin has accomplished in his career. And I'm not necessarily saying that it's going to be a much harder fight, but he's a much younger fighter. He's bigger. He's been a super middleweight champion in some ways Canelo picked up one of the titles because of David Benavidez stupidity, immaturity, however you want to frame it. He's lost the same title twice without losing a fight. So some people might perceive even though Canelo is the undisputed 168 pound champion. People might perceive David Benavidez to be more of the real WBC champion than Canelo Álvarez. So I could see people criticizing him for not fighting the younger, bigger, hungry or fighter. If he were to take that route of fighting bivol and fighting golovkin. Yeah, look, I get that. But perceived by who is how I would respond. Perceived by the people deep in the weeds in boxing. People like us that know that Gennady Golovkin is not the fighter he was in 2017 and 2018 when he had those great fights against Canelo. I can promise you Keith. The average fan has no idea that golovkin's been inactive the last two years and that he's fallen off a little bit. If they see him knock out ryota Murata, the average casual fan is going to be like, oh, third fight between Canelo and triple G, completing a rivalry. They're not going to know. It's like, in a way, it's comparable to like Mayweather versus McGregor. You and I and people that know combat sports, no it's ridiculous. It's absurd to think that Conor McGregor could win a fight like that. But the name recognition, the star power. That's what drives interest. That's what drives pay per view. So, yeah, I guess like, you know, they'll be sections of Twitter that will go after Canelo Álvarez for refusing to fight David Benavidez. "Guys reluctant to do it. So until I see somebody that's not named Gennady Golovkin, let the right hand go, I'm just gonna be skeptical that somebody's going to do it. Yeah, I think Charlotte's the kind of fighter though who is likely to at least attempt to do that because of a variety of things. Number one, it's his legacy fight, period. Number two, he's kind of conditioned to try and do that. And the other, the other thing about Charlotte that I'll say is he's not a one trick pony offensively. He has a very wide arsenal of offense. When he uses it correctly, both he and his brother one of the things you really are there are strengths. And golovkin used that to his advantage. You know, he is a really good offensive arsenal of a bunch of different punches. So your point is a very valid one. But I think there could be a couple of ways for Charlotte to skin the cat against Canelo. Now, it's a very tough assignment, especially if you're coming up in weight. You've never had a fight at a 168 pounds. You know, in the old days, people used to take fights at a weight class until they moved there for a major fight. Not so anymore. People just go there, and they fight people. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. Yeah. Hopefully somebody gives Canelo a good fight because he's yeah, we want to see that, don't we?
