"It took a fact without getting into alvin nitty gritty. Lafayette has continued to lose. We've lost population was involved in this committee and twenty nine thousand nine hundred. We were at fifty one fifty one point six percent of the parish the city laughing at and now we're at fifty point two five point two two years like well. Actually it was twenty twenty. And i mean to not have the mayor always. I mean i'm getting a little bit too on here. But consolidation to me is just not even the issue. It's lafayette needs to have. Its own mayor that can do these other. Mayors have and push if we need any duty if we need another tiff district if there's something that's going to transform lafayette the city of lafayette our hub. City your we need a cheer cheerleader. Just redo on. I think if we need to get something done for the city we don't need permission from the parish right which at the time we conclude that it's not about the current people. Just wake up. But i am. I am one hundred percent. Sure the motivation behind doing one parish and all of this was great in one thousand nine hundred. Six people thought it was going to do a great job but it didn't so now we have to see whether we need to continue doing that. All we had to go our separate ways. We have to see how much of this general fund that that they've been allocated to all this parish all this other neighborhoods. That's coming from lafayette. I don't know. I'm not a marine to that. I don't know. But i think that is something that needs to be studied and if we do deconsolidate than we have a study on how much resources need to be spending deconsolidation yes. We can share the resources. Yeah i don't if it difficult or easy. But i'm sure if consolidation was easier deconsolidation should be also easier in some kind of way they can do it. All titletown consulting. I'll tell you my thing. When i first came to laugh here in twenty two thousand one when i was going to lake charles to gory casino. Whatever lake charles was way for behind. Lafayette lafayette know. Liberals is catching up. Right away i thought before the catastrophes fly correct and his catching up on. I think that is because lake. Charles is not catching up. Lafayette deon grove of beard was where it was. I think good things will happen to laugh. Here there's a lot of good people that want to do a lot of good Administrator an administration has to listen to them. And i think they will have to listen to them. Take the take ideas of all the people who are in this war in working for this. I'm c. is right. What is not right for the city. Not not their ambition. Not their political ambitions are at the end of the day. You are born in lafayette. Whatever you had was given to the city of lafayette. What can you do to improve to put your stamp on that if you don't have a greater good there's no good not just about your family orientations right if laughing at provided you everything that you have today. What did you do for the lafayette. I came from india. And i wanna leave something that people remember for the rest of the life will get a go there mouton house twenty years from now and they would say well. Aerobics distorted the nickerson house or the Or other projects that we do. So if i am the one doing it that don't have anything to do with lafayette. Then they magin. How much responsibilities. Every citizen in lafayette has but sometimes we are all again golfed in our own life. You're not thinking berar renar with think about our own food our own things but there's also a greater good that everybody has to think and say. Hey warble i play. What role do i play now. There are fifty six fifty seven retire. Lafayette gave me everything. Had what do. I do now big trash. That's that's fine. If that is what you wanna do do that i. I think the greater good is something that we need to instill in these guys. That are retired sickener home. Give them something to do. Give them hope. We will remember you so anyway. I don't want to go deep reading my mind. I think we do need at the senior leadership program. Not mass people get them. What do you wanna do to be re-engaged. yes yes. Take all your time to volunteer. But just what do you enjoy in group. Swear would you like to plug in on a nitel people on I go to da. For instance. I might know a few other people in downtown. That has a lot more resources than me. I don't want to name the names but the rich people in downtown. But but it looks to me. Like i'm the only one doing products especially the real estate side. They're all waiting. And i'm like why are waiting guys. You have way more resources with more connections more everything. What are you waiting for. Good but i guess sometimes people are waiting to see how successful we are if we're not successful than they will not do it but if you're successful than they go on to understand that because you're cautious risk. Yeah in the wrist mar. Hopefully we are successful than they will say. Okay well these guys who successful lead story. I think there's a lot of talk among people to do projects in downtown. Lafayette the reason. I say down down here is that is the only place that raises more money in sales tax revenue per square mile per square mile. Why don't you go and put infrastructre somewhere else. Infrastructure there ryan nicholas. Go go up and do it right there. So i trust that point. I know rent in other areas. And and lately i feel like dodging traffic in ranges is is not. What my time Good day did a great job. I mean there are people from new york that comes from studies riverine. Sometimes you know. Let's see how the built everything where he can. Take your golf cart and go anywhere. It's just great. Great concept but i think golota traffic and i just don't like to go down down closer to i ten to forty nine close to everything that you knows. Cool all of that. There's no way dumbed down is not going to be developed. In the next ten years i see down the only way the down down will be developed eased by doing multifamily very happy living in downtown That is the key walking into the stores clubs drinks anything so we are. We are missing some quality Stores i think with time they'll come on look at the last one year. How many stores opened in downtown free. Every weekday dislike opening up and they're very unique. And i think is doing a great job there. Some of the concepts really great. If you go down down on jefferson street you have this look of lot of boutiques the science age. The neon signs. They dig this facade room in grand signed grants and they have done that or you cannot do everything in one year. They've been doing it consistently for the last three years. And now i have guests that came into moot on on the similarly. Your downtown is very unique very nice. Very simple in. Nice silage in nice boutique stores. I think.

"Making it better is what all he wanted was to unload it on a person that he trusted and loved and who loved him just to get it out but not to be told what to do or be advised or do anything about it. That was a big moment for us. It really was was he. What he was saying was listen to me. You have empathy for me and and that's all in love me through it. That was hard for me. Because i wanted to fix everything. Yeah i think for us when we started this podcast and started talking to other couple's one of the things that really inspired us was. We wanted to get married. We want it to last forever. But i felt like the world was so filled with media and headlines tabloids of no marriage lasts nothing is perfect and nothing can be forever. And i love having these conversations with you guys who've been married forty years forty almost forty one in your age and we have so many people telling us oh it's unhealthy to fight and it's unhealthy to argue and if you disagree about something it must not be. The right. person is healthy not to fight. If you don't fight forget it. Guess to fight you know. Try not to fight dirty but you know rumor had it that in your forty one years of marriage had never had a fight. You're saying that's not true kidding. I once asked billy graham. If he ever thought of a divorce he said divorce never murder. I is that a drew story is a love. That's the best thing to ever come from our show. Don't fight are suppressing their anger. Or they're withholding sanjay gupta. Talk about that. He he would withhold how he felt and he get more pissed off that she couldn't guess what was wrong with him. And i said well why would you assume she could guess what's wrong with you. He's well i. I was being Passive aggressive i. It took me a while to realize that that was a passive aggressive thing to do you gotta to say. Hey this hurts just that this makes me feel bad that the thing you learned through the year this from reading and talk it was. We've never been in marriage counseling but a of the couples that we spoke to had been. And it's it's a great thing to do. If you need to the number one. I love you. I mean to commit to marriage counseling. I think says i love you and i wanna stay with you. We're doing while we didn't have that many did we. We didn't have that many. We a lot of flights. We fought a lot of those type papers analyses and we both were in our own shows. So i was used to being a boss and i would bossie and he was just being a boston. He was bossy. And so you know. He wanted to be certain way. I wanted to be a certain way. And we really had to like give john mcenroe's wife patti smith said she at a one point because they're they are very fiery the two of them. Will you know john mcenroe. You've seen him on the court. I mean he's yelling. Fu the empire. And she's very feisty too and she said a one point. I realized i wanna don't wanna be right or do i want to be happy so i wanna be happy so i'll let this go. The hell was it. And so that's you learn that after wild that some of these fights just on you know what was it. The james carville told us yo a he did he said When you find yourself in a round and round argument where you said no i. Didn't you said that said you said kick that can down the road now. It's it sounds so it's great though so superficial. And i remember a week later. I we were arguing and i said oh. Let's kick that can down the wrong. We both started laughing and it's true. He golota cans down the road. But it's you know it does. It moves the ball. Somehow you know what you mean when you say that like just defer that conversation or yes oh forget it. It's stupid you're going to say you said you were gonna take no no you said no i remember. No you did you. You could and it goes on an island is ridiculous and you're in that place where everybody has to be right and then you finally just Hell with it. Just kick it down the road okay. But what if we don't have as good a sense of humor as both of you do and when we're in the moment we get tied up and we can't think of a funny way to to end the conversation like by saying let's kick this can by the road you'll be okay just job right to okay that you're gonna end up there anyway so you know having sex you have in the middle of their so were you realize what the hell was that about rayleigh and we talked arlene alden allen. All they've been married. I don't know sixty some years. And they used to fight all the time and everything. They had three little kids. He was traveling all the time for his career and she felt that she wasn't getting what she wanted out of her career because he was so busy and She said they used to fight. A lot is when i look back at it. She said. I can't put my finger on what we thought about. It was something but it will. It just wasn't that was. That's an interesting relationship. Alan alda i mean. He can't walk down the street any work in the world without being recognized but their relationship began he was a cab driver and he used to bring home as you know is his but i was in one dollar bills in and put them in a basket on the table and she would take the money and separated according to chip with them. A little envelopes said rant food utilities. The thing is is they were a team and you really are a team if you don't see yourself as a team then you know that that that's the ballgame. You're the team. And i want him to have everything he wants that. That's another thing you know. People don't really invest in the other person's dream. I from the very beginning and you know forty one. Years is a long time so phil was in his career. I was in my career and it took a lot out of each of us because we had these gigantic careers. And the thing is is that I wanted him to have everything you. He wanted a life and he wanted me to to have what i wanted he wanted. My dream was important to him and his re was important to me. And if that's true if you really wanted in one of you isn't being like hey listen. I'm the on that if you're into that if you're if you're selfish you marriage won't laugh and know another piece of advice that both of you have given in previous interviews is that both both individuals have to be invested in it together and i think that's absolute gold but i'm curious so you've interviewed jimmy carter and his wife ray romano on his wife sting and his wife. I mean the list goes on you. Have george stephanopoulos. Stephanopolous rodney peete. I'm curious of all the couples you've sat down and talked with. Is there one relationship where you're like. Wow veda things way different than anything we've ever seen. I don't know whether they do things way different. But each couple will it was a very singular. I mean each couple overcome something that the other day. There's no such thing as the rice and the white dress and the clear sailing you know and.

"Then i restricted their diet and what i found was that there was no difference whatsoever in how long they lived. Now have to say. I'm watching the animals die and the right on top of one another almost that. I'm just ready to say there's no way that dietary restriction works in wild mice but then the last few. The last twenty percent live longer though restricted ones. We're living longer longer longer. So all of the longest live twins were in the restrictor group. So what i concluded from that is that these are wild. Animals are genetically diverse. So i thought well maybe because the other part of this. I didn't match very early on when restricted him. A number of the restricted ones died early in the experiment. So that maybe depending on your genes dieter shapiro. Good for you can have very little on your health. It can be bad for you. The ones but died early. Steve when you examine them after death what were you seeing. You think that we did enough ne- crops. He's on the early ones that died to know that it's not very easy to get good crops material on mice because their bodies cool off so quickly and their tissues start to degenerate so quickly so almost all of what we know about. Mice pathology is from mice. That were euthanized. And i don't think we euthanized. Because we didn't expect them to die when they were young like that. So maybe they had some nutritional requirement that we weren't meeting like say we were using standard laboratory chowan. That's you know we don't really know how good that was which i mean. Standard mouse showers total garbage. That's probably a good a good reason to be concerned at the upper end steve. Did you see a red. I mean i guess if you didn't euthanize them you wouldn't know but you'd expect to see cancer being the biggest difference. Although do wild mice suffer cancer to a fraction of the extent that Inbred mice do. They do to a fraction but they don't yeah we did for the ones that live longer. Most of those. We were watching much more carefully because they were getting to the point. Where we're we're expecting him dies. We have quite a bit. We probably have necropsies on at least twenty mice in each group and yeah they still get my. They still golota cancer. Because let's face it. Mice in the laboratory live on average about two and a half years. The longest live ones live about three years in the wild. They live on average about three or four months and long live ones live maybe a year or a little longer. So we're talking about incredibly long live mice so yes about half of them had cancer when they died. I don't know if that's what killed him but they had cancer when they die. But that's a lot lower than is if you bring a wild mice into the lab. How long do they live when you take away their predators and you ensure them food they live. They live a little bit longer than your laboratory. Mice maybe twenty percent longer. Okay so they are a healthier mouse. They're pretty healthy. Mouths yeah yeah. Despite being bred for being in lot. Well i mean you know if i gave a handful of these to people that are only familiar with laboratory mice. They wouldn't have any idea they're looking at the same species first of all they bite secondly they can jump when we changed mice from cage to cage. We set the cage down. We take the top off. We picked the mice up. We put them in the cage. I should take the off and you got popcorn. You know. they're they're all over the place. And there's a common tests that we do in laboratory mice for sort of coordination imbalance which is called a rotor rod. Which is kind of like log rolling for mice right and the ideas that this is probably eighteen inches off the ground. So they're afraid to fall so we'll sit there and try to stay on the circulating rod. Try that on on a wild moss and this immediately leap off the thing and leap off your desk leap on the floor. And they're gone. There's another.

A lot of the papers that are get are funded by the european union. It will have to be open to the public. And i think there's a lot of bill gates to like the the what gets foundation funds lay the demanded than that. It's accessible to everyone hosting so. I think it's it's the question of time before that that wall kind of false and and that is going to help a lot of possibilities because imagine if if you had like the layer of that gigantic layer of papers all available online That unlocks a lot of potential as a platform for people to build things on top of that. But i do what you're saying. It is weird like you can literally go and listen to any song that was ever made. But on your phone right you open spotify and you might not even pay for it might be on the free version and you can listen to any song that was ever made pretty much. But there's like you you don't have access to a huge percentage of academic papers which is just like this fundamental knowledge. There were all funding. But you as an individual don't have access to it and some out you know like the problem for music got solved For papers it's still like it's just not yet. It could be ad-supported all those kinds of things And that hopefully that will change the way we do science. This the the most exciting thing for me is Especially once i started like making videos and his silly podcast thing. I start to realize like that if you wanna do. Science one of the most effective ways is to do Like couple the paper with a set of youtube videos like explaining it like that also seems like there's a lot of for these russian there what he's the paper to point gonna look like i think like lay tech and a pdf seems like seniors if you look at the first paper that got published in nature and if you look at the paper that got published in nature today look at the two side by side. They are fundamentally the same and Even though like the paper that gets published today you know you get e even even code like right now. People put like code on a pdf and there's so many things that are related to papers today. You know us you have data. You have code. You might meet videos due to better explain the concepts so it it it i think for me. It's natural that there's going to be also an evolution. There that papers are not going to be just the static. I've been watching some girl from jersey mcclellan l. She's a beast. I'm just gave me goosebumps. She gives me good chums. She gives me bounds for al nice. There was a a versus yesterday. I know you were all into that between the locks deter anyway crush across the floor it was listen to it. I've been on my facebook periodically. I randomly will put eight ninety locks. It's cool correct. I have 'cause it's a rat food. There's not many rap moves that can perform as me songs been in a rap game for over twenty years. They never had issues with each other. Which you can't say about people who are most friendships right you know. They know each other songs they out there. It was three on a stage whereas the diplomats who had about one hundred guys on the stage with their shirts off hennessy. So i don't know it. It was great so it's been a great week speaking of weeks any rebuttals from lies. I'm getting a lot of talk about mental help. I think that right now. This is a good thing Mental health is trending. Okay being able to talk about. Mental health is trending. We started talking about mental health in the very beginning and we always tend to come full circle talking about mental health. Took yeah your mom to and the interesting thing is. I don't know if it was by accident or if it's just you know. I don't know i call it law of attraction but now everything i see is about mental health as olympic thing about mental health and i was listening to Upside i was listening to a podcast this morning. It's actually talking about podcast. And they literally came up and talked about mental health and podcasts. And i was like. Wow i listening to. This is interesting. And what it this. She was actually an advertiser and so she goes on podcast. You know works with sheets rebuttal. Now this is about so yes however but all the rebuttals have been about talking about mental health. So the actually. They've been talking about their own mental health. And or you know just different things like that so they didn't really talk about the episode but they listened Started golota conversations. So what we want to hear rebuttals myself. Yeah if you recall. Last week. I kinda went on this guy. Yes charlie kirk. Got a lot rebuttal. I won't say good and bad. I'm not you cowards. I got some people telling me. I don't know what i'm talking about. Of course they were big fans of his and i just laughed out shallow mine and i said i don't want to give them any type of notoriety to snow that i laugh at your comments. When y'all reply to me about stuff saying you were wrong about their official. It goes like there's a lot of people who didn't understand it. I didn't understand why it took such a fence to him saying that she was a sociopath and she was selfish. I mean there's basis when he was completely wrong. I keep saying that word. I don't know you think. I don't think you know what it means what he doesn't He thought he'd double down on it. But i don't even really want to get into that just know that you can't tell someone when they are having a mental breakdown and ashley and all that fucking pressure. She got herself in the olympics. The game of games. If she feels that she's hurt her seeing being out there are for being more important in herself. She has the right to step down and then she even came back. She came back and won a bronze medal just by doing the basics like she was just getting back out there. Because you starting to feel better but a mental breakdown of something you can't prepare for. You can't tell somebody when are having it and huda fucker you criticize lazier pretty strong words for somebody you know. He implied that he never said the word laser but he implied that right And you know his history going against black athletes now that i know exactly what he was saying he will right so any other battles josh Everything else. I've been getting people especially digging like that. We point out about the mental health. Because you need to have your mental health you know. Protect your piece. I attach your mental health. That's always preach so is down about and that was the rebuttals in. Is that people you know. There are people who want to respond to me. I want to. That would have been tried. Yeah hey what am i say that. I didn't do it for him to respond from the way to. His people are responding. Because i was posted. That damn thing everywhere. Everywhere there was any conservative. Talk about charlie curt reply charlie kirk and. Some people are like what are you even like. "Ken coleman dot com the website to get The book and the assessment. Right before we get to the phones. I want to Talk through one of the biggest excuses that we all have. This isn't a youth thing. It's a me thing it's a we thing. A biggest keeps us from pursuing our purpose. That work that we know there were supposed to because you can get clear which stage one and you can still go. I'm clear on what i wanna do. I'm clear on what i should do. But just doesn't make sense. So here's the excuse. Anyone i reveal the excuse to you. Here's what's interesting. It's not a wild crazy. Excuse golota excuses are crazy and everybody knows you're just full of it. You say this out loud to somebody and it makes a lot of sense. So what is the excuse. It's going to take too long and cost too much. It's gonna take too long. I don't have the time. I got too much going on in my life. All kinds of relationship excuses start to begin to just kind of like waves coming into the shore. Just here they go. I shall have time. This is pulling my time. This is paul. My time does what i saw him. Time the number time another one is cost too much. I'm in debt trying to get out of debt. I'm not doing really well at or i'm gazelle intense with it and i just. I can't make any progress on this path at all. I just don't have the money. Got three kids in school. Whatever all the excuses they can just role in it. I don't have enough time. And i don't have enough money. And that makes you when you say that makes you sound like you're a mature person. I'm being disciplined at maybe one day maybe one day. But here's the problem with that. First of all you can make progress whether or not you have a bunch of time or a bunch of money. The seven stages we. You could actually walk these out while paying off debt for some of you ramsey fox. Hey ken i'm i'm in trying to pay off my debt. How the world could have made progress. You can't make progress on the side. You'd cash flow your way through. Might take a little longer but you can do it because most of the time. It doesn't take as much money and as much time as we think that's part of the problem. I mean i get it when you look big picture and you see this professional pinnacle that you're thinking about. It can seem very daunting you go. Golly that's going to take a lot of time a lot of sometimes it does but it's still doable. But many times it doesn't take as much time or as much money but you have got to be able to look at three days. See your fears in. This situation are clouding your judgment. And so in the book from paycheck. Purpose that i just mentioned available for presale. Now i give two chapters to stage to get qualified in one of the chapters. I break down the four qualifying questions that will help you. Blow these excuses up. Because he's excuses sound very sound the they sound like. You're being a reasonable person but most of the time that excuse. I don't have enough time and don't have money. That's coming from a place of ignorance. And i'm not insulting you. I'm saying you don't have the knowledge to truly be able to say that. So here are the four qualifying questions. Really simply me talk about him on the program before i do a deep dive in the book from paycheck to purpose. Number one is what do i have to learn. That's the education question number two. What will have to do. That's the experience question number three. How much is it going to cost me. The economic question a number four. How long is it going to take. That's the expectation question. I'll break this down very quickly. Little i need to learn. Does it require degree. Maybe maybe not if it's not the only way or the best way then answer is no. It doesn't require degree. Could be an associate's degree could be a certification. An online program could be just a training program like i took locally in atlantic to get the basics of broadcasting. I didn't have to have a certificate. Joe but when i went to complete game broadcast i see i walked out of. There was some real knowledge on how to actually broadcast. It helped me. You know that. Because when i showed up to and i'd never been radio before my life. Awful in the grand scheme of things but i actually knew how to get in and out of a break. I was very good at it. But i knew how to do it. So the the education learn from a local producer and by the way that gave me some experience which leads to that question. What experience so i need so many people call a show and go kid. I'm applying for jobs and they keep telling my experience. What do i do how. 'bout going wrong down the ladder. Somebody got into that position with experience how they do it. what experienced. I need this. What i need to do and experience. An education gonna require a cost sometimes financial cost. Sometimes relationship cost. Can't hang out with. My buddies can't coach my kid's soccer team for a season. Whatever it is. What's it gonna cost me. And then when i look at the financial cost in the relationship time cost i can. Now look at this and go. I will be able to complete this journey most likely in this amount of time and now we've got ourselves a.

Nothing's happened. Sorry home skillet but this way lots of people don't like being actually scared but they will watch horror movies No i think. I think psychological. A lot of that just plays into non sexual foreplay to like not necessarily psychological in a negative way but a lot like sexual attractions outside of physical intimacy. So i think that that could go on both ways like being treated if you like to put on a pedestal and worshipped like that's psychological thighs. Nothing to do with a lot of people forget the difference between like sex and intimacy. Those are two very different things at different in for a lot of people myself included intimacy is very key to sexuality and ninety percent of the time you guys like to talk about bondage. Yes you'd like to know what i googled. is on edge for beginners. How would how pals So there's a couple different models. I guess are like forms. A thought one is safe. Sane and consensual yes which emphasizes safety sticking to activities that you and your partner is designated as safe before hands another model. A thought is risk aware consensual kink which is rack. Those who follow the rack model believed that the words safest problematic because many beady sm activities are inherently risky the argue that the responsibility for determining rest horri- lies with each individual making explicit consent. Even more crucial. Yeah i think safe is broad in that instance. Because it's like if you're into blood play like obviously the act itself is not going to be quote unquote safe. But it's making sure that you know like where to cut and how deep information beforehand to where it's not going to risk your partner's life it's still going to get this sense ation and allow the feeling that they like but you have aftercare on hand and you have everything set up. I think that's more of the safe term. Not necessarily like don't cut someone but if you've agreed with your partner to cut them just make sure you have everything in place to keep everyone healthy. His grandson's name is bobby. Bre qatar now bobby. Did i pronounce that close enough. Yes sir okay good. I like to say my northwest missouri nasal hillbilly kind of trying funny. What about that. I just had a comment. Somebody said always seems weird to have a guy with a southern voice. Say the word capco. Listen to bobby talk a little bit and you'll hear that salt sweet syrupy south louisiana voice. Our true southern boys right. Yeah it's a little different than new. All has its own unique accent. I've been confused being from boston. New york no. Yeah you know. I hear that now. Wow i do hear that many dollars around the city you know. Talk to different people. You can tell what part of the city from interested in so now. Let's get to the meat of this. You've written a book here recently. Called food for kings. And it's part to crime as part history in his part a recipe book cookbook. If you will food for king diamond jim. A new orleans legend now diamond. Jim mocatta was your grandfather. And there's a really interesting book folks especially if you like to cook. It's got those really great new orleans recipes in it and this guy your grandfather. Your grandpa was one of the most colorful characters in new orleans from what i've read about him. It was unbelievable. Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got interested in doing this particular book. Okay very first of all. Thank you for having me on your show. appreciate it. earth off a married with two children in military. Over twenty years i retired in two thousand and eight and i've been aircraft mechanic for american airlines and now delta. I picked up this project after my father died and wait basically he motivated me to kind of pick up the torch and carry it. My dad was a dentist for forty years and he always wanted to do a screen. Play or movie per se. He's never do it. I have i did a screenplay originally. But i didn't go anywhere with it so i decided a couple years ago. Put a book together and kind of tell a story about my grandfather while i'm telling. The story basically blended in combination photos and recipes as i journey through his whole life. I start off when he's a childhood and carried on throughout his life until the success of his life until he died. It's a good read. It took me about eight years to go through it and do the research are did get a lot of information from father. My father ahead a manuscript he has deposition that he had put together with a attorney. Back in nineteen seventy seven. So i use all that information and took my tom everything in the book that i've talked about a kind of support it with a document and the article. Either that was given to me handed down to me or maybe that of actually found in the library found a lot of information doing the research about my grandfather in the library his life. It was pretty easy because his life was documented since he was a teenager so every time i tried to fill in the blank. Something in my father didn't pass down to me. I was able to answer all the questions that i wanted to answer about his life. You know interesting. That stuck a little bit about his early life. He fought under the name of jimmy moran which is kind of like no joy hupa in chicago took on an irish name in order to fight. I think more likely it was a lot of prejudice against italians in those days. Especially in new orleans. If you remember we go all the way back to the black hand days and they they killed the chief of police some Supposedly some black hander. Kill the chief of police in of new orleans storm to jail and hung. I dunno must have been six or eight say ends i. I can't remember exactly for sure. How many so. It would have been wise for him to fight on her an irish name. I would imagine tell me about his fight career. Let's get started. Well that was one thing. They kind of treat. My curiosity was widely. Any changes his name in the book. I did find a quote where someone asks them. Same questioned do an interview. He said he did for business reasons. But that was part of it because you gotta realize he didn't get into business opened up first restaurants on nineteen forty nine. He changed his name. I found articles where he had his name change in teens early. Nineteen hundreds. He hung around a couple of friends of his feet. Herman who's an italian pita. Golota was his last name. And the other guy. By the name of powell moran. His name was francis. Paul miranda and all of them were full blooded italian as you know and you listeners. Know that back. Then the titans will kinda frown upon. They weren't considered equal. Maybe to a lot of different even the irish whatever. So i've found out. He had changed his name one. He didn't want his mother was fighting when he was on the fighting card. You know and during the preliminaries in hours fighter. Irish name would draw big crowds for fight. A lot of people don't know new orleans was actually a big boxing city equivalent to chicago and new york but on a smaller scale of course but it was a big boxing town in a drool audit. And that's how he got to meet jack dempsey marciano. You know all those big fights back then because they came to new orleans and then he connected so his first circle of friends will all italians. pete. Herman was abandoned. Champion thinking sixty nine fights from nineteen twelve to nineteen twenty two now as far as my grandfather. He wasn't as big of a boxer as those guys. He did it for my research. Maybe about six years and then he got a little older. He got into referee in and he started refereeing. He did that until about twenty seven years old. Then that's when you up his barber shop in the open up a barber shop with a boxer front of his last name was burke in as when he got an barring after referee
