"Just keeping you know well he's been good Rabaa geo the only way out I guess that's the point the question right now experience the other day was tremendous compares been fantastic you know you get that you get it yeah I thought this too was great from shell talking about just the quality of arms in the variety that they have a way of collective leadership we work out the same vision and mission of what we want to cobble together and so you know and and when you do that it's not necessary caste system and when those guys have more experience guys find their voice so to speak one encouraging thing to do they're doing it appropriately you're also still doing it in a sense of they're still asking questions of others I think a lot of times I still continue to ask people questions people are going over Jack you know I mean Jack away no have a good relationship from Alicia objects thrown from Ueno Dakotas grown from window but I think when I was also been open to ask them questions what that looks like so I guess like a collective leadership so it's you know them having a voice you know the past down because they've been able to go through the experiences that's what you're doing is really an experiences deliver towards the toxins and so forth that go the clubhouses in their first campaign is is valuable so you think about all those names do you think about how well just about everyone has pitched it's it's pretty incredible and you'll see the code Hudson again tomorrow it'll take on the Astros here in Jupiter at Roger dean Chevrolet stadium will get another look at Jack Flaherty on Wednesday Daniel Ponce de Leon we'll go again on Wednesday you kind of do the math and and see when guys pitched in and line up when they're gonna pitch again but there've been some really really obviously impressive performances already and likely won't now joins us in our two year he's owned broadcast center studios cardinals a six one win over the twins today we touched on K. K. also had assists Cabrera exiting the game and want to start to see how this line up is going to look see the plane time the Indians get dispersed clubs here over the next couple of weeks are gonna talk about that and more on what was just another gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous day here in South Florida in Jupiter beautiful day we've got more than a week of games the books man yeah we can the games week of gains but more importantly better weather yeah look chilly this weekend yeah people don't wanna hear that back in Saint Louis but I'm happy to tell them all about it but St Louis as of now shown up ball park was full today it was full on Saturday and now we've got some games under our belt I think we can kind of see things taking shape obviously story camp yes but quiet Kampot away is Dylan Carlson and his emergence so o'neill started to play better you gotta follow no matter what is Carl's junior centerfielder because Vader's fight it again if you take a group of the first of all Carlson's been your best outfielder Lou and I think that Carlson Thomas N. o'neill maybe it's not fair to say based on sample size but I don't think Kerrison Vader has overwhelmingly impressed overlaying Thomas or Neil has he know he has and that's not saying that he he isn't worthy of shot I mean he's will make the ball club I would think I'm of the belief the last ten games decide your fate and I think what I would start to watch is if Carlson's plan every day then he's coming nor if he doesn't play every day yeah then they'll start him in Memphis and certainly get him up as quickly as possible you know and and and now that I look at it here some banners not at all having a bad spring he's five for seventeen two ninety four average three sixty eight on base percentage five eighty eight slug and it's just the other guys I think it's been a little bit better and you know claims I I think this is an interesting way to think about Kyle put it to me this way last week that they are going to give Dylan Carlson every opportunity to fail and that's not a bad thing but they will give him every opportunity to show that he needs to head to Memphis he needs more seasoning I think at this point out of that group Heris innovator is probably best suited to be a guy who could be your extra outfielder he could be a bench PC could be a guy your defense of god doesn't need to start necessarily could come in a match ups especially against lefties late can pinch run can play defense now I'm not saying that he should and let's not forget that we're only one season away and you know the interest of fairness I don't think it's pointed out and now off that Harris invader two years ago in twenty eighteen in his first big league season put together pretty good offensive year eat sixty something at three forty on base percentage three thirty four on base for twenty two slide but I just think Bill Karlsson's been the best player in camp but most likely player I've seen so far he well he just figures out a taste of males have a hell of a campus jadi unbelievable I guess we take that for granted a little bit but do what ma'am what was what was the cardinals biggest efficiency last year it was guys at the top of the order getting on base in finding ways to score outside of being driven in when they were on base by Paul Goldschmidt Marcell Ozuna Dylan Carlson claves gets on base every time is up and you look up and he's on second is on thirties crossing home plate he just finds a way to get on base throw in the fact that he is as good of a base runner as I've seen in some time especially for that age and and you know what I'm gonna stop talking about his age because he already resembles a big leaguer in how he approaches the game and when you see who he's talking to whether Saddam Paul Goldschmidt a Willie McGee I mean he he has found a way to gravitate to real professional players and I think that's because something it's a Garbo well for him now as we talk about those guys is real competition is pitching before move to **** right now let's go through if the season started tomorrow who throw out there because we talk so much about the outfielders but we don't really talk about Tommy Edman could he be your starting left fielder and Carlson be your starting centerfielder carpenter third what about a few platoon admin and carpenter at third depending on who they face saw an admins playing against lefties I I need him in every day yeah about Sichuan I'm not sitting down I'm not sitting down Carlson followers probably gonna play especially against righties so is right now the clearest path maybe we keep talking about Dylan Carlson if he needs extra seasoning in Memphis maybe lane Thomas is the guy to go play every day in Memphis for now yeah it's telling you yeah I mean you're right I could I could say that your line up right now should be cold long leading off Tommy had been second Dylan Carlson third Paul Goldschmidt Paul the young fifth yard only the sixth textures seven followers seventh you know following you look back Chris last year his best performances were the six and seven yeah the new order so I'm not opposed to that who he had a hearty forgot who we who we so we're in there it wasn't long Edmund Wong admin Carlson Goldschmidt Goldschmidt the young jadi filer carp flip those stupid Fowler I mean the semantics the actual number but but but I think you know we keep saying to that time and could be you know kind of events over stepped into the Jack of all trades that's fine but I need to be there every day well I'm I'm going to have a man there on a regular basis but he may start at one position in a and then another yeah sure it may be part of that is to keep him fresh to yeah yeah I don't want to plan a hundred fifty nine games like polyester so I'm I think you what what I do see is more versatility and with twenty six man which by the way who is that going to be great question how I could see it being like a revela could see it being one of the extra outfielders whether that be lane Thomas or Tyler o'neill could see it being enter Kisner and easement leaders as well auditing trader from both sides of the plate you want met leaders around the club your kids or do you want his her everyday planning models of kids who can prove anything worn to minors to be honest with you I really don't I think he's a guy that should be playing in the big leagues one way or the other solicitous top of our head you've got thirteen position thirteen pitchers we'll go through them right now he will focus on the thirteenth hole no shows get jadi he got Goldschmidt got warm your carp you got the young author admin in there for the sake of the infield you've got Fowler I mean better making the team better you've got better Neil Carlson so then you've got a backup catcher which is Kisner leaders leaders rather I'm sorry in the kitchen so if you Kerry leaders and kids were at twelve so that means you're basically picking behind lane Thomas or run our fellow right Thomas yeah or Amanda Sosa well now so some take I have no the infielder yeah so maybe kids it doesn't make it because you have Brad Miller who can swing from the left side for your bread Miller to see these are yeah folks this is just week one and I hate to break that we haven't even talked about pitching there will be an injury or a bumper and then it'll go somewhere yeah best example with John Williams yeah who tweaked a hammy and you know you just know the guys in the mix yeah but you know everybody feels like now well you probably have to start the season in Memphis because generals hamstrings they take a little while he and I get it of gnosis or Russian of it and I think Chris bono's needs to get at bats I'm not sure if he's at bench guy this early in his career where he needs to get some swings going but we're for he gets right so you got that side I think the pitching is even more challenging so you wanna take a break and come back and we'll talk some pitching let's do that my clip on's what this it is portable line on a Monday night from the T. R. he's homes broadcast center studios in Jupiter Florida we're back in a moment unsupportable and hang on until.

"Another key takeaway from that memo to Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt was the idea that an FBI investigation wasn't exactly welcomed by the Oregon state government. I know from my own interviews at the time the FBI was interested in getting into this. They didn't make it public but certainly Goldschmidt and his people knew it and they did not want the FBI to investigate corruption down. There was there resistance to the FBI stepping into the investigation. It's how to get rid of this problem. It is also possible that you could get federal assistance but I believe it is crucial not to turn this into an FBI investigation if you went any assurance that it will stay within the bounds arms. You have set if you want any assurance that it will stay within the bounds. You have sat. What does that mean? Well it meant something to the person who's writing the memo and it meant something to Goldschmidt even when we finally got this memo When it finally became public public it wasn't clear what were the bounds that Goldsmith had set? What were his reasons for not wanting an investigation? That's that's the question. It sounds sounds like he wanted something contained and then eight months later in April of nineteen ninety seemingly out out of nowhere. A small time drug dealer from Salem named Frank Gable is arrested and charged with the murder of Michael. Frankie Frank Gable has found himself a key figure in the Michael Frankie murder investigation. He says he didn't do it. He is currently serving a year sentence in the coups county. Jail for assaulting his wife life but others say he's done much worse than beat his wife Might Kieron's convict from the Idaho State Penitentiary Claims Frank Gable told him he killed Frankie during during a car burglary. Remember at this point Jonny Krause had already confessed. Knowledge of the murder recanted his confession and and was granted immunity to not recant. His recantation Liz. God love also had gone to the police with her belief. Tim Natividad was the man the pinstripe suit and could have killed Frankie only to have them laugh and say they couldn't convict a dead man Frank Gables name came out of nowhere even to the three journalists most heavily involved in the case Phil Stanford TV reporter. Eric Mason and Steve Jackson at the Statesman Journal. Here's Jackson Gable wasn't on my radar at all at that time at by. I just time I was already having difficulties with the way the investigation was handled. And Jackson found the arrest of gable oddly convenient for the the police the only one that was really pursued was the easy one for the please Basan some guy who had basically no support no money. We know friends people going to turn on him. He was sort of an outsider even cut group. He was an easy target us. An easy target with with not many resources sources to call on to protect themselves. Here's fills take the time. No one knew what to think I mean Gabel was a completely new name out there and all of a sudden the state police are promoting him as their prime suspect even now now. It's something of a mystery how they picked him and it appears that it all happened in about may of eighty nine just as krause was does this appearing as a suspect this is when cross started talking about possible connections to corrections officials. Gable was out so clearly confused S.. Two what was happening to him and struggled to articulate. What is accusers could possibly gain by pinning the murder on him here? He is at an interview at the time of his arrest. They believe it's because a lot of people like Kerns and several other. Inmates are jumping on the bandwagon thinking. Well we can get our charges dropped. You know. Point the finger gable. We'll get get our charges job so my name keeps coming up. The Mike Cairns Gable spoke of in that interview was another of Salems usual usual suspects who happened to be at the Marion county lockup. When police arrested Gable he was the first in our rogues gallery of criminals used to try and tie gable? The killing was the first one to go public and say that Gable had confessed to him he would later go public and say he made off which of course he did. That's how it got started. And then they State police started finding other so-called witnesses who would say that gable confessed to them but according to gable he had a solid alibi and one. That didn't exactly xactly paint him. As a saint he claimed to be busily committing an entirely different crime. At the time of Mike's Murder I was a friend of mine's house named Chris. Real real os with him and two other girls. I didn't leave my home. I believe until at least eight o'clock that night and I went from there to a friend of mine's house and delivered some drugs and then went to his house and spent the rest of that evening there and came home about five that morning so fifty two days away from finishing a sentence for an unrelated domestic abuse charge Frank Gable now feared he was going to be charged with with Michael Frankie's murder been so scared each day. You don't know if you're getting out fifty two days or if you're going to get put the death penalty for a crime. You didn't commit you know so. Yeah I'm scared more scared I've ever been in my life. I believe that I walked into a complicated drug. Bring in really. Don't know how complicated it was until now and it will get even more complicated and even more perplexing there was never never any physical evidence linking gable to the murder his cellmates false accusation along with the testimony from characters entwined and Salems underworld were the only quote unquote evidence. The police had to go on. who were the people who came forward as the state's witnesses Well they did not come forward that the police selected them and help them manufacture the stories. They wanted using lie detector tests. That's one of the more remarkable things about about about this case than other way lie detector tests were used to shake testimony the two star witnesses for the state from the beginning where Jodi swinging the engine and shorty hardened. Jody was a seventeen year old runaway. Who'd been in and out of Hillcrest? The girls school certainly certainly part of the weaker scene there. Shorty hardens names. Come up before. He was friends with Tim Natividad. They ran in the same drug dealing circle. Yes they did business together. Shorty and Jodi would become the state star witnesses Lincoln Gabel to the murder after twenty-three polygraphs grass. It took them that long to get Jodi to tell the story they wanted. Jodi story was that Gable had by the way she hadn't net until about six months later had driven her to the building that night and while she was at the Dome building she called Shorty to come pick corrupt. They didn't have cell phones in those days so she had to walk a distance to a payphone. which the police were? By the way we're never able to find or dente fi and and The story is that Just before the murder occurred shirty drove up in his Mustang parked there. Jody got into his car. Shorty said he saw Frankie coming out of the Though don't building yelling at Gable who was in the car at the time he got to the car gable. Lunged out of the car and stabbed Frankie. Shorty said he started his car and in and Jodi drove off into the night. The state didn't seem to mind signed the version. Jody and shorty settled upon contradicted the account of the only eyewitness on record Wayne Hunt Sacher the maintenance man who had seen scene two men interacting night frankie was murdered. They put all these made up witnesses in front of the grand jury including jody I and a shortage of course in fact they even allowed jody shortly to meet privately in a room before the grand jury so they can get their stories straight and they did and the testified that they had been there at the don't building on the night of the murder and seeing the murder testimony at then coerced. They threatened her. She finally came up with the story that she was present when he stabbed. Michael Frankie Shorty was is a local tough guy. Done business with Tim Natividad he was deeply entrenched in in the Salem on underworld made multiple deals with the cops along the way and they got him to testify against Gable to and Kevin says great effort went into bringing shorty heart and an Dan and getting.

"If gold Schmitz and action was a mystery. What's clear now is Salem? Oregon were heavily riddled with crime corruption. Chuck side served as a state representative and Oregon's legislature from one thousand nine hundred eighty four to eighty nine. He grew up and into power in in Salim's political system and according to him corruption has a long colorful history in the area. Payoffs you know. Basically the politicians knew who did get not to get those days and it wasn't literally the good old boy system that that worked for many many many many many years. Well what I came home from college seven people that ran the town and they came to me is my dad's friendships with them and said. Hey We want you on the school okay. Let me I was on the school board. Within two two weeks there was just an opportunity for Adler is everything's politic. Everything's so oh as chuck talked us through Oregon's checkered past. He gave us a tour of his beautifully restored. Historical office building. It's in downtown Salem. Not far from the Dome Building and has been utilized for many purposes over the years it was once a masonic lodge and even has a floor that it served as a booze friendly ballroom. During prohibition complete with an antique pump organ just like the one salems elite class would have danced to go back in the nineteen thirties so the bar was up here original bar still there. But this is where the organ was inside this little mezzanine and of course that's where the slot machines were and you had a little stair on the other side of this wall before it was remodeled with. That was where the guard was. So Oh yeah. Yeah and you didn't touch them. Because they were so powerful that everybody belong to a Masonic Lodge. They had a lot of weight when it came to getting getting people. Elected and chuck sides on political career. Path wasn't too far off from that sort of model according to Chuck Doc. He didn't choose politics as much as politics chose him after eight years on the school board. I was asked to run for the House of Representatives. Those oh same good old boys the ones who ran the town and so quickly installed chuck onto the school board. They also pushed for his election to the states. House of Representatives resentatives. That's where he really started to get a firsthand look into the structure of power in Oregon. We had a governor name. The Neil Goldschmidt Goldschmidt Neal was the type of person like bill. Clinton you go into a room and you just could follow him out and our first episode. We talked to bed about what Mike Frankie walked into on the heels of the nineteen eighty-six investigation into corruption with an Oregon's prisons Chuck exide's actually watched it unfold the hookers. Everybody were out on Portland. Road which is highway ninety nine and the truckers were funding the prostitutes and all that started that was normal but it was very low key and he did not until I started when I got elected I started riding around with the city police. I learned more about my city than I ever knew in terms of where things were done. No other stuff. It was also extremely segregated. Ed Salem did not allow minorities to live here. Even in the fifties they were told by no uncertain terms. You're got to get out of here by by sundown. Sundown so in a big school high school. There was two blacks and stuff like that. That was happening that I never saw. Aw but it was controlled by six or seven people and things were put up with but there were some situations nations that were beyond that systems power to contain. If Goldschmidt I thought at the time was clean then uh obvious even then that Marion County that state government county government was anything but I mean the two previous. Da's I had had been pushed out of office wanted to go to prison for dipping into public funds and giving out large amounts of confiscated weapons to his buddies and the second one was pushed out of office in mid term over a domestic assault report. Here's chuck sides take to get into the Dick van. Dyke dykes on Chris. was the DA in town and he was an up and comer and basically was going to be the next governor. Has he had that Christmas. A Lot. Like Goldsmith all that stuff. Chris beat up his girlfriend and she filed police charges and instantly Salihi copies of that. Got Out because the Republicans didn't want him running for governor. He was candidate but it knocked him out. Because because of that whole scandal we have a copy of that police report and while the charges against Van Dyke were later dropped the political damage which was down. Here's bill and so. He left an eighty-three and each of these changes in the DA's Office for sort of Palace coups away and they'll pan ended up there's a DA in about eighty five. Remember Dale Penn.. He was the district attorney who oversaw that Nineteen eighty-six LBJ investigation into corruption within corrections. As well as the investigation into Michael Frankie's murder both during a time when the social atmosphere in Salem could be characterized characterized as rather steamy and CD the entire scene. Down there was overheated it was the eighties. It was coke. The Professional Class Meth for the rest of the population and the rest of the population included. Lots and lots of ex-cons unconscious on parole Salem by law at that time had all the prisons and so that naturally drew all the families families there When when he got out on parole they would often stay in that area so it was a strange culture that included all the public officials and bureaucrats on one hand and a large criminal population on the other? So that kind of culture that kind of environment where you had ex-cons mingling side by side with the people who are supposed to be policing them that sounds like like the perfect recipe for corruption. Well it it certainly made it much easier especially if you if you understand crop shen as a part of the system system.

"But I'm usually I'm pretty dialed in all things Grateful Dead. Here's two things. Bonnie gills bringing me news Naga. Josh bringham news in the world of the Grateful Dead. I've already shared my Bart Simpson. Experience with you guys enough set on that matter, and we move on cope. I am so brain dead though, partially because of the Bart Simpson's that I forgot what we teased on the other side. What were you saying we're going to talk about what we were just talking forty Niner football. I remember talking to Greg popping. And he's now joining the broadcast rights will stay was there something else we were specifically going to get to you. I was talking during the break. I mean, this wasn't a formal teas. But I just ask both of these guys. She'll just for kicks you guys just for goof in the new year. We'll get things off on a comedic note who can you guys like show me or tell me who's in the rotation rate. Gartner? We know he wrote his here. Obviously, we know that. Now, I'm saying beyond that guy. We know for sure as the news of Holland, where's. Had him in the rotation. I did too. I did too. And now my brain is like working on that a little bit. I'm thinking like well Holland's gone. So that means we got bomb. We got D rod some margin. I biggest question what to think of some mortgage, and then cueto's off now cueto's not going to be here this year. I don't know for sure. And by by the way, cope is a baseball player, and I do respect your baseball acumen. Do you realistically, honestly when you look at Cueto? Do you see him coming back after the season and being an effect effective pitcher in the bigs again, and how old will he be at that point to think it'll be thirty four thirty five at that point. You think he will? Because he's a guy who early in his career. He relied on his velocity lot late in his career. He's become a crafty sort of pitch inside outside. Yeah. She'll be thirty four by the time. He comes okay. With two years. I think beyond that left on his contract. I actually he's a guy who doesn't concern me a whole lot. Interesting doesn't need to throw eighty five to be successful. But you he doesn't concern you. But at the same time, you can actually point him and say, I expect good things from him. I do with the way John's have gone in recent years when guys come back from Tommy John it's not as fearful as it was like an even fifteen years ago where you're like is he gonna come back with more velocities? You're gonna come back with the same stuff Will Smith did. Well, Smith came back almost more effective than he did the time before he is a little bit older than Will Smith was. So we'll see how his body tastes to it. And he's a guy who I mean, he he's one of those guys who remember we joked about it with like, my crew goes talked about this. If you follow him on Instagram. I know Bonnie Jill does he's a guy who like dude, he doesn't he doesn't do new age. Trading stuff. All the time. He gets on the exercise bike, and he he does his offseason regimen. But dude, he's out there like throwing bales. Hey. On his farm in the Dominican Republic dragging around things like in the desert like he's he's kinda like Bumgarner. Rocky rocky four so he shows up spring training. I think to get in shape and bails. That's how it is. He's got these horses and everything I mean, he's he's he's an outdoorsy type of dudes. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not totally afraid of him coming back and being a part of the rotation. Also, he's going to need to come back and be part of it. Because we don't know what what Bumgarner hold to be on this year. Thai block. Now, I don't see Todd block is a starter. He could easily. I don't know we he's really a to pitch guy. He's much more effective out of the bullpen. And so two, ideally he is your long, man. But look far hunt said this a couple of weeks back maybe maybe three weeks to a month back now right now in the in the way, baseball's going you've got to have more than five starters. You gotta have like seven eight nine three. There's no asking the question. And again, like, I'm gonna admittedly. I was not one hundred percent dialed in to all the sports news over the break, which I think is kind of the point of the break. Sometimes you gotta step away a little bit. Now, something big would have happened obviously would have paid attention to reset button recalibrate. You know what I mean? It's fun to watch games as a fan again where you're not like we're going to talk about that tomorrow. I've got to talk about this more. You know? So I immediately was not totally dialed in which is kinda why I'm bringing this up. But it doesn't really feel like I missed anything. Because really nothing happened. There were a lot of specifically with the giants. Yeah. There were a lot of rumors. And I think they still are are going to hold true that the giants will move either Will Smith or or Watson. Initially. They were tied to the cardinals within the cardinals went out, and they signed to Andrew Miller to be there late inning or left-handed closer, whatever you wanna make of that. So I think the giants are still waiting for somebody in the market who's gonna try to bite on one of these guys. I don't know if you get a starting pitcher. I'm a left handed relief pitcher and at this point in today's kind of landscape and climate. What exactly is the definition of? Honestly, what is defined role of the starting pitcher? So give me three or four like, I I don't know anymore. I think you're still looking for guys who are going to give you five six seven innings. This is the thing is is while the game of baseball at the major league level has changed over the last two seasons and really just last year. Right. Really just last year with the we're going to start a bullpen guy. None of the third time through the line of we've we've known for fifteen twenty years. I remember specifically cope to your point coming on the air the day after Sergio Romo game, and we're all like kinda. We didn't really know what to make of it. But I remember talking about that a lot being like, hey, Sergio Romo is the first relief pitcher in the history of baseball to actually start a game in the role of a quote starter. But opener member he. I'm sorry. Excuse me as an opener. He started it just so they could get a better matchup and maybe get their starter a third time through. Now, we talk about how this is like it's it's revolutionary that the rays did this the raise also had the twenty game winner Cy Young award winner on their roster. Yeah. Right. So it's not like any team is doing this every single day. Sorry, copa. The other thing is the rays had success last year. Doing good season. Yeah. So the thing about the starting pitcher and at the level of the major leagues is I think they're being managed differently. I don't believe that guys are being trained differently in the minor leagues. I think that we've talked about that the guys want or baseball managers want to know that the guy has the mentality to go five six seven eight innings long like up a Bumgarner or the aces. We're used to. But I don't think cueto's been one of those guys. I don't think they're training guys to not go that distance. I just think that we've known for for a decade that guys are worse. The third time through the lineup against the starting lineup. That's just sense. They get to see you that many more times they're going to have a better approach against you. Then they did early in the ball the less see. But again, this is where I come in with this whole thing unless the pitcher is setting up the hitter for something the the hitter hasn't seen the third time right say like, I'm gonna show this guy stuffing. My first two at bats that I'm going to save stuff for the third. Just so I can stifle. I remember Tim Lynch to not through his curveball the first time until the second time through great example fastball changeup almost. Off-balance then it's like oh second third time through. Now. You're seeing a pitch you hadn't seen before. And that's where it kind of like the chess game of baseball comes into play that I missed like, I missed that element of just the mind games pitchers can play with hitters when their when their stuff is working. Yeah. So I don't think the philosophy of starting pitching in the minor leagues is different. Now the miners. It's different also because you're almost never going to run a pitcher out there for a complete game. Because you're bringing your pictures out there to get work in the minor leagues. You wanna see different guys can do. I don't think the philosophy is going to change. I think that certain guys like Bumgarner are expected to go seven eight whatever you can get you. But back to the original question of the segment, we we we just don't know what the rotation. He's gonna look like we we just don't know three to four like right now. I think that the rotation. The giants are looking at no joke. I think right now they're looking at Bumgarner. Free-riding derived, you've got Laura's. Yeah. And then like, I mean, I don't even know who your voice, whereas where we saw as debuted his debut. That's okay. Till till Goldschmidt. Yeah. Goldschmidt Goldschmidt speed. That's what he does that too. Yeah. So you know, as far as the rotation goes it's not worth going to be at the start of the year. But they may also be going with this situation where they keep stockpiling bullpen arms. They added a lefty in the the the the rule five draft. So it will just have to see how it plays out. But we're about six weeks out. All right. We'll get into it. I mean, the closer we get the Scottsdale. Obviously the more information we'll have. In the meantime, came kmby or Oko remind you guys that you can ring in the new year with a USF don's with don's on the hilltop this Thursday. When they host cross bay rivals Saint Louis Saint Louis Saint Mary's at six PM, get tickets online at USF, don's dot com or call four one five four two two to USF. I was gonna say they're getting some big winters. Your call. Smith is is doing a good job. They're playing defense that be. Wow. They beat Stanford. "Over the Winnipeg Jets tonight, another shutout four Jake Allen is I in a calendar year and now headed back home for the first four straight home games. It'll be two o'clock on Sunday against Vancouver. We're getting ready to head to Vegas tomorrow claims and myself will be. Bound for the winter meetings and the cardinals making a massive move earlier this week on Wednesday. Just a couple of hours before the blues took to the ice against Edmonton trading. Carson Kelly, Luke Weaver Andy young and a draft pick to Arizona for six time all star, Paul Goldschmidt Goldschmidt, one of the premier players in the game has Gold Gloves. Also has three finishes inside the top three in National League MVP voting and was introduced today at Busch stadium along with cardinal's president of baseball operations, John mosaic and Mike Gersh. Here's a new cardinals first baseman and chairman Bill DeWitt junior an exciting day for us, and I'm very pleased to introduce the newest member of the Saint Louis cardinals, Paul Goldschmidt. As you all know, he's a perennial all star MVP candidate, go Glover. Silver slugger. Excellent base runner and admire teammate. Cardinals have had some impressive first baseman over the years. Johnny mize. Stan Musial Bill white Orlando Cepeda. Mark McGuire, Keith Hernandez, Albert pool halls, and of course, most recently mad carpenter. I know Rickel correct me if I've missed someone because I did this off the top of my head. Paul is a perfect fit for our club. Last year. We won eighty eight games and a wonderful second-half struggled in the first half. And you know, we're so close to the play offs. We felt like an additional impact player could put us over the top. And. Fortunately, Mohan has staff have been able to accomplish that with the acquisition of Paul Goldschmidt. I give credit to our scouting and player development department for producing young players and you're out. Less to make moves like this last year. Of course, we picked up Marcelo zone and a trade with Miami where we gave up young talent. And we gave up a lot of young talent draft choice to get Paul Goldschmidt. And I would be remiss if I didn't complimentary fans as well. Three million fans year in year out and ablest to make these kinds of commitments to try to keep the cardinals at the highest level. I think most of you now that I value not only the present. But the future and thinking about the past and the obligation. We have to keep this franchise at the highest level year in and year out and without player development without our fan base. We wouldn't be able to do it. So it's an exciting day. I know cardinals fans are excited. I like the headline of the post dispatch this morning, if you haven't seen it we got a copy for you. And at this time I'd like to turn it over to them out. Thank you Bill. Obviously, very exciting time. And you're gonna ask the question. Why Paul well, simply realize the importance of twenty nine thousand nine we looked at all the different options that might be out there. Whether it's free agent market, what our trade options might look like, and we really felt that all checks so many boxes for us that it made sense. And when you do your diligence on players, you always hear about players make up and how much they care about the game or not care about the game. Or what the real DNA is. And the most interesting thing about Mr. Goldschmidt was we couldn't find anything negative on nothing. He loves baseball loves to play the game plays it, right? When you think about the Saint Louis cardinals? He just sounds like the perfect fit. And when when we were talking about that Bill, and I was recently that ended up being the headline in the pulse batch today. So we're actually on the same page role in time. And as you look at at what this does for club. It does say that twenty nineteen matters. And we believe it truly improves our club immediately. So as we look at at what we still need to do. We still realize or we'd to address the bullpen. There could be a chance where we look at adding a left handed bat, and we still need to find a backup catcher. But having said that it's my.

"The US sixty and Mesa drive. Big changes. Big changes. Yes. The Diamondbacks have traded the best player on their team. And somebody even argue their best player ever, Paul Goldschmidt Goldie is going to Saint Louis now in return for Goldschmidt d-box receiving prospects of both the catcher and a pitcher and infielder and a two thousand nineteen competitive balance around be traff. Whatever that means. Joining us right now. Derek hall, the president and CEO of the Diamondbacks now down Derek we're going to start off with some full disclosure this morning. Neither Pamela, I are baseball fanatics to the point that we're going to be able to for example with you. On your pitching rotation for that matter. But I think even the most casual sports fan and casual baseball fan in the valley, new who Paul Goldschmidt Goldschmidt was and saw him as a face of the franchise how difficult was it to. Well. Let him go. Bruce, extremely difficult. I mean, this guy has been the face of our franchisees such a good individual to. That's what made it so difficult. You have to try and separate via boasted you have four it individual. And who he is off the field versus the the baseball decision knowing that you're going to go into season his final season and that he's not going to be her after this year. It's it's how can you minimize the risk and get as much as you can return? And that's why you know that package was was so important to us. So we got back from from the cardinals, and Pamela, you did a good job explaining you can't trade draft pick. So that that pick is a cop picks between rounds? And what it means is we do get a draft pick, essentially. And and now we have several draft picks in the specs draft. And like the I seventy. Seven or eight he picks and at for us. It's very important that we can rebuild our farm system. But more importantly, we have a couple of players in this deal in Luke Weaver, and of course, Kelly who can plug right into our our major league teams. So it's not just about the future. We do have a couple of pieces that are for the future sustaining long term. But also right now as well. We're talking right now to dare call president and CEO of the Diamondbacks about this trade. And it's kind of interesting to me, I I'd like to know from you. When did you know it was the right time to do this? And then like when to sign off on it. Yeah. That's a great question. And and it's really our general manager Mike as in his baseball staff, they came to Kim Kendrick. And I at the end of the year with a plan and one of those options was kicking the tires on Paul Goldschmidt knowing that. We couldn't at the end of the day not get anything in return for him. So we gave them permission to green lights go out and see what was out there. And you know, there was a chance that we were gonna keep Paul into the season. And see what happens by the trade deadline, if you wanna move a man or or even taken to the end of the year, if you're still being competitive, but we wanted to make sure if there was a deal that made sense, and it really didn't come down till yesterday that we weren't just gonna make a deal to make a deal, and and move someone like, Paul Goldschmidt. So when this deal came to fruition. And when we were able to get that much of a bulk return, that's when we knew we had to do it. But I would say we were still leaving a week ago. Pamela. Not even sure what we were gonna do as we were talking to bowl teams to see what options were out there. We're talking to Derrick hall. He is the president and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Paul Goldschmidt has been traded to the Saint Louis cardinals. It's one of those things where I was looking at Saint Louis media the newspaper, they're they're awful darn excited to get Goldschmidt. Tell us. Why Diamondbacks fans should be excited for what we got? Yeah. It's always obviously, the big marquee player that that gets the attention. It should it proposal were, you know, thrilled for him. It's tough. I mean having spoken with him on the phone yesterday was a very phone call for both of us. I mean, he means a lot to maybe plots by family. I I absolutely love the vigil. And he deserves the accolades he's gotten so they should be excited. And they're they're in a situation where they do have a surplus Bruce of players in the farm system and other roster where they can make moves and they can sacrifice because they have the depth. Whereas for us. You know, we needed these players. I mean, we're trying to fill holes we're trying to rebuild the farm system as well. So I think we both addressed our needs just like they need Paul Goldschmidt in their lineup and for their offense. And even there quite honestly defense at first base. We needed these players as well to to help stock are cupboard dare you talked about it being an emotional decision that it was an emotional phone call yesterday. It's also very emotional for the fans here in Phoenix as well. So how's this going to affect your ability to sell season tickets? Well, I think our fans. Are you know, obviously, we're all emotional about this one. But they also care deeply about the team. And when you're making moves like this. It's not about one player as hard as that is almost thirty years in baseball. You know, Pamela, we've been part of when I was with the dodgers we move Mike Piazza who was iconic like Goldie and the sky was falling when we didn't exercise the option on guns. Oh here. Boy that was a tough and devastating day. We'll move Justin Upton Saint deal. But I think fans realize it's really about the team about the future and trying to build something we have to try and win championships. And so we have to look at the entire team and have a game plan for the future, which this is all about. But I did you know honestly last night today. I've figured tonight tomorrow I'm communicating heavily with fans there writing me letting me how they feel when I'm writing them back, obviously. And it's good communication. But it shows the passionate they care about the individual. They care about the team, but they should care about Paul Goldschmidt. This guy has been you know, he is someone you hope your kids look up to. He was great community. He is. So he was such a beautiful person here for us because he did so much off the field as well. And that's what Diamondbacks are all about everything. You just said makes perfect sense. But how do you convince the fans that are listening right now? The you're trying to win those games when you just traded away your best player. Yeah. Well, when you can get back four players, and then one of them hasn't even been selected yet. That's important. So in a in a market like ours, rather than having, you know, your best player played his final year, and then walk away, and you don't get anything in return that would not be very responsible of our baseball staff. So knowing that they had to get as much as they could forum obviously going to get more now versus going into the season or going to the trade deadline where he only has two or three months left on his contract. Now's the time really to try and cash in. So I think the fans will will see that. We have a starting pitcher and Luke Weaver who will plug right into our rotation. We ever catch the future. Now who scouts say should be an all star. I mean, this guy is phenomenal defensively in person Kelly. Andy young just played the fall league here. So we watched them almost every. Day. Infielder who's going to be superb and can really swing a bat and then the draft picks. So I think fans know that we're building on all four those pieces again, we're talking to Derrick hall. He is the president and CEO of the Zona Diamondbacks. I'm gonna leave you with this underhand one for you. Derek? They'll show. Who is the face of the Zona Diamondbacks. Now as we head into the new into the new. A season who do you guys put forward who's he the face of the franchise. Great question, Bruce. And I think we have a lot of good personalities when you look at you know, an Archie Bradley, who's already, you know, front and center, but we also have so many good players. This is a very very good team competitive team with a multiple faces when you have Jake lamb who are fans absolutely adore. Christopher Walker is gonna have a chance to play some first base as well. Escobar who we resigned Peralta who's a fan favorite bar taste Sousa. Who's gonna have a bounce back year? We have with our rotation grandkid Ray, and and cook and godly Taiwan Walker, and we just signed are traded or side Merrill, Kelly. All of these guys, I think have the ability to be the pace. But more importantly, it's all about the unit. You know, we're trying to put together a very competitive team. That's get a fight to win. And hopefully, bring us back a championship in the next two years fingers crossed. Thank you so much. Appreciate your time. Bruce Campbell of thank you guys. All right hemispheric, call the president and CEO of Arizona Diamondbacks as well. The city wakes up to Canada. The first day without Paul Goldschmidt, hasn't Arizona diamondback. Which again, I think it's fair to say he is slash was the Larry the same impact. Larry FitzGerald was for the cardinals Shane dawn was for the coyotes. Dan, marley. Closer to Dan Martin. I would save. And then even Nash, you know, someone who's just was so identified with the Franny. Yeah. And so identify with the community L, listen, you know, this man being one of the best things you'd have the Diamondbacks ever. You don't know. And I respect that. You gotta make tough decisions and Derrick hall has made tough decisions throughout his career as well as his front office. And so yeah, you gotta play it out. I understand it. We'll have to watch it superstar Stevie Z who's more. The baseball says basically what they traded away. They've got a they've got a bunch of scratcher ticket lottery. Tickets. Sometimes it works. Sometimes you hit the lottery, you might have hit the lottery with some of these these players better than letting him walk away. I getting nothing right. Which is what the other option was his contract's up. He leaves. He goes wherever he wants. And they get zero form. So they did get something. So the lead brought to you by Berge Ford off the US sixty and Mesa drive online. Berge Ford dot com. We have a list of the grinchey states in America. I'll I've been doing my part we're going to find out where Zona ranks after Martha Mauer gets us all up to speed with our.

"ABC sports radio and this and he's going with Dan Schwartzman. It is our number three lock going on. Of course, major league baseball. The winter meetings are going to get underway starting this weekend. And what's happened is? The the landing spots for Bryce Harper. Some believe may be narrowing. And maybe they have now at the last couple of days. The Saint Louis cardinals which was considered one of the destinations for Bryce Harper. They've instead made a trade shipping three prospects. Young players to the Arizona Diamondbacks for first base slugger, Paul Goldschmidt, Goldschmidt, Scott one year left on his deal for fourteen and a half million dollars. Here's the way to look at it in terms of Bryce Harper. Okay. Either. The cardinals were like we're not going ten years in three hundred fifty million dollars on Bryce Harper. And that's why we've decided to go with thirty one year old, Paul Goldschmidt. Or do. You wonder if Bryce Harper, and Scott Boris may have kind of let it be known that they were really not that interested in going to Saint Louis C. I don't see Bryce Harper and a place like Saint Louis. I really don't see it nothing against St Louis. But it's not a sexy place for a sexy player like Bryce Harper. And I think that does play a role in this. I really do what I mean by that is I think Bryce Harper understands that he needs to be in the right place. He needs to be at a New York or LA or maybe even a Chicago. It may not work out that way because ultimately. Look those teams may not go after him, right? The Yankees have been eerily quiet when it comes to Bryce Harper in the reports are they don't seem that interesting. That said though, that may be smokescreens, and they might be really interested in they're just gonna pounds at the winter meetings with the big offer for Bryce Harper. Now that might be the case never underestimate the New York Yankees when it comes to something like that. But on the other hand to take away. You know of destination like Saint Louis a day after potentially the taking away of a destination. Such as maybe even Washington, and I say that because. The nationals just spent six years at one hundred and forty million dollars six years and one hundred forty million dollars on Patrick Corbin. Does that take them out of the running for Bryce Harper? I don't believe. So I've talked to some people in baseball. They don't believe that the twenty three or so million twenty three and a half million dollars per year that they're going to be paying to Patrick Corbin will take them out of the Bryce Harper sweepstake. I kind of tend to agree. I I have a hard time believing that they will not be trying to resign their own player the nationals have they have money, right? They absolutely have money. So I have a hard time believing that they will not be able to keep Harper after bringing in Patrick Corbin because they would at worst. Outside of the ten year three hundred million dollar offer that we had heard rumors that they had reportedly offered I have a hard time believing that they would if they had made that offer nothing go attempt to make another offer before deciding at some point that they were not going to have an opportunity to resign. You know, I have a hard time believing that would have been the case. So Sean when you think about it. I think certainly the cardinals were out of the running. Now, they don't need him after getting Paul Goldschmidt. I think it was a great trade to get Paul Goldschmidt for Saint Louis. They needed offense to train a young pitcher that still has a lot to figure out a young catcher young. Infielder was worth the price. I think in a couple of years, we'll look at this trade and be like who do they really give up to get Paul Goldschmidt. Even if they reassigned Paul Goldschmidt in a year at the age of thirty two. It's gonna cost by hell of a lot less than Bryce Harper. And by the way, offensively Paul Goldschmidt is not that much different than Bryce Harper. Great. I walks a ton high on base percentage has good power. He's a good player. Great news. I yeah. I agree with you. I I like Luke Weaver, by the way. I I know his numbers don't jump out at you. Twenty five years old and four point nine five era this past season. But he had stretches where he he was pretty impressive. So I kinda like, Luke, Luke Weaver. He's got a ton of stuff. He's got great stuff. So that being said though, I like what he does this year for the Saint Louis cardinals. You put Goldschmidt at first you move. Matt carpenter across the diamond third strengthens your offense. That I like it. I like I like the move. I think it's it's gonna work out for them is a contract year for Goldschmidt, he should perform. Now will the cardinals wanna recite them to two hundred million dollar deal? I don't know. That's that's tricky. But is he going to cost two hundred million age of thirty two? Okay. Probably like one hundred and thirty. I think it's JD Martinez type of deal at that point. Yeah. You know, maybe, you know, honestly, it's it might be a four year hundred million dollars. Yeah. Thirty two big body. Like that. I mean, people aren't going to think that Paul Goldschmidt is going to be good at the age of thirty seven thirty eight thirty nine he might get that four year twenty five mil per year to be at one hundred mil and I would rather pay one hundred fifteen million dollars for Paul Goldschmidt over the next five years, then pay Bryce Harper three hundred sixty million dollars over the next ten years. I think I think Harper's going to cubs now, the more and more. I think of it loves Kris Bryant, did you hear the rumors that Chris Paul Ryan is on the market. He is. Yup. Yup. Because they're not sure they want to pay him when he gets very expensive. I wouldn't. I wouldn't even at disappointment breaking down the MVP, Dan. I know get that. Yeah. Yeah. I know you had a terrible year this past year. Yeah. I'd be a little Rory strikes out a lot. Yeah. I'd be worried that that was not just a down year that was a terrible year. That was an all for your that. He had but one of the cardinals doing they're going forward. This year there were eight and seventy four last year. The updated their offense yachties really old. I mean. Colton. I'm looking at their offense now lead dust Dexter Fowler. Had a terrible season last year for them. R- really play that. Well. I don't know. What are they doing? They're going for it. I think they're going for it. And why not look at Carlos Martinez had a down year. Michael Watt, never really really lived up to an atom rain, right right passes prime. I don't know. I don't care don't. But here's the thing. That's a team. That's a tough central and looking at the brewers are looking at the cubs. And they're probably thinking, look we have to do something. Right. We can't just. Seed the seed the the vision of those two teams. Yep. Yep. Plus the cost of what they gave up three young players in what fourteen point eight million dollars in salary. It's a move you had to make that was that's a no brainer. You're not tied in financially long-term, if Goldschmidt stinks, and for some reason, you know, like, maybe he stinks and shows him some age, whatever it is. He had a terrible first half of the Caesar first month of the season Arizona before you, obviously did what the back of his baseball cartels. He's going to do. You're not tied in long term with him. And I don't, you know, do they give up the best prospects? No, they gave up high end guys. But these guys have a lot to figure out before they become real major league regular. So I can't blame the cardinals is kind of fell in their lap potentially. And they're like, hey, this is a movie you have to make too much sense not to make this move. So I like the move for them. But you know, you have to start wondering what pawn false I at the winter meetings. Does Bryce Harper set the market or does Manny Machado set the market or do both of those guys kinda sit back hoping the other guy goes I? You know, this could be a log jam because I don't think other guys are gonna really sign until they get the market set with those two guys because the big market teams that have the money that potentially want to go after a Machado or a Bryce Harper. They're not going to be spending a hundred million here on one guy one hundred million here on another guy. But this might be what's telling about the Yankees and how much they're going to spend the Yankees were not willing to go past five years on Patrick Corbett? In fact, they were at four years they finally went to five his agent said we have a six year offer, the Enke said, go, take it. They're going to re-sign Jay most likely baby. Make an offer the Nathan of all these of the world are they saving money to make a big splash with a Machado or maybe a Harper. That's what you have to kind of wonder are they making that splash. And we'll come next week at the winter meetings, the UC Harper and Machado signing during the winter meetings week. I do in Las Vegas, by the way. Yeah. I do. I do think I do think there will be signings. I think there has to be no, you don't think they're gonna son going to drag on. I guess no. I don't I don't think it's going to drag on. I really don't. I just think that you know, there's no point it really dragging on. Right. If it drags on. What's the benefit who gets the benefit of a dragon dragging on? So I don't think it's gonna drag on to that point. I have a hard time believing it will. But that said it, you know, you hope that the domino falls. And it's gonna take one guy to start it all and the question is who's going to be that guy that starts kind of that domino effect of guy signing will it be Harper. Will it be Machado? That's the hard question. Here who gets that first big offered. Honestly, if you're Manny Machado new signed the first contract and you sign for eight years. Two hundred and eighty million dollars next to you know, Bryce Harper gets the ten years and three hundred sixty might say, wait a minute. Why did I sign I made a mistake? And no one wants to be that no agent wants to be that when you have to high end premium guys like this that are available at the same time. I honestly don't think you're going to have you know, I think there's going to be hesitation to be the first one of the two to sign and probably rightfully so. Outside of those two guys which other players are you excited about where they're going to end up the Japanese mccutchen. Now, I think he's past his prime the Japanese pitcher could be interesting Nelson Cruz now, you the Japanese. Yeah. Kikuchi could be very interesting. He's twenty seven years old guy. You know, he throws very hard actually to the same high school as Shohei Ohtani, by the way. No kidding. He was the start that high school before autonomy got there, and he's a name because people look at him. And he's you know, he might not cost a ton. He's not going to be you know. I mean, look Otani was different. But he's not going to cost like Tanaka or somebody like that. But teams like the Yankees, obviously teams like the dodgers will always kick the tires on a talented Japanese pitcher, you worry about the arm troubles at Japanese pitchers have had. But certainly they will be a lot of kicking the tires on guys on a guy like that. Because he he could come in cheaper, and is kind of an unknown compared to some of the the names out there. But I'm not. Outside the guy kimbrough, David Robertson. Well, that's the interesting position is the bullpen pitchers. Right because you have David Robertson. You have Andrew Miller Craig kimbrel. You have Zach Britain you have owed Avena of the Rockies. I mean, there's there's good relief pitchers familiar that are going to be on the market that I think that's where teams look you see the value of bullpens, right? Look what Tampa Bay did look at how they use the bullpen teams are going to spend more on bullpens looking at that that that new system of starting with the reliever baby not paying a starter's much. And I think relievers especially this market where there's a lot of high end relievers. That's going to be interesting. Where teams are they going to spend a lot of money. Throw a lot of money at that position. But it's going to be a fun. Yeah. Good. Okay. Say it's going to be a fun winner meetings. I think in once that first guy signs, I think you'll have a domino effect. I'm not sure you'll have what we had this past year. Sean where you had all these guys, obviously sitting there in worrying about you know, let's hope not. Yeah. Campaigning. Yeah. I am. But by the way, this salmon sardines meeting with eating seriously in soybean oil delicious. Yeah. Really? Oh, it's delicious. Yes. For those who don't know, Sean is, you know, he he watches what he eats, and he's been eating sardines, and I make fun of the sardines, and he brings in different kinds, and he had this today this parsley and soybean oil in this really good. Oh, it's delicious.

"I'm Tom Ackerman. Looking to improve on their first division title in five years. The Atlanta Braves coming off a good season. But wanting more agreed to a one year contract with Brian McCann, a two million dollar deal. The catcher returns to Atlanta. He was a seven-time all-star from two thousand five to twenty thirteen. He's a native of Atlanta. So he's eager for a chance to return home with his wife and two children. The Braves weren't finished there. They went out yesterday. They picked up. Josh Donaldson, a one year twenty three million dollar deal for the former American League MVP he'll play third base for them longtime third baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays. Most recently the Cleveland Indians. Now, he is in Atlanta. Brave and the Braves are counting on a return to form from the three-time all-star returns thirty two next month. It was only three years ago. The Donaldson captured the MVP award in his first season with. Toronto. He hit forty one home runs and led the AL with one hundred twenty three Rb is that year. Those are big numbers. He followed up with two more thirty plus homers seasons. But he had a hip injury in two thousand sixteen he had a strained right calf in two thousand seventeen and a calf injury hurt him last year. He was limited to just fifty two games by shoulder inflammation and cafe issues and he had to forty six last year with eight home runs and twenty three RBI's that might have scared. Some teams off the cardinals have always had interest in Donaldson. But ultimately, he signs the deal with the Atlanta Braves one year twenty three million. This is a short term deal with the Braves, and it's going to give Donaldson chance to show that he's healthy. And that he's back to form and it could set up a huge payday in the next free agent market for him. And for Atlanta. Their lineup starts to look really really tough one of the best in the National League. They really needed a slugger in the middle of the order to go with Freddie Freeman. And it's not known if the team's gonna make a serious run at bringing back free agent outfielder, Nick marquess, so the Braves needed some depth in their lineup and they needed some heft, and they get it potentially in Josh Donaldson. So what does that mean for the cardinals? If they're out on Donaldson. Who are they going after? Well, at third base, you have to consider right now, they don't have one and they really do need one. And they want to solve a few things they'd like a left handed bat. Donaldson is not that he's right handed. They would like a good fielding third baseman. Donaldson is that and they like somebody in the middle of the order to give them some power. Well, Mike mistake is really checks all those boxes if you think about it left handed power doesn't get on base a whole lot, but left handed power. He also has a good glove. Not the best range in the world has really good arm across the diamond and the cardinals don't really have any of those things at third base jet. Jerko is fine at third base. Gyro Muna's could play that position. It would be fine. Matt carpenter could. Play the position. He doesn't have a great arm across the diamond. That's a bit of an issue his natural position. Really at this point would be first base for the cardinals which brings up another position. I base cardinals are connected to the Arizona Diamondbacks right now. There's a lot of talk about their interest in Paul Goldschmidt Goldschmidt is a big time player. He is a six time all star. He's a four time, silver slugger. He's a three time gold Glover. He's also a right handed bat, but he is devastatingly good at Wrigley field. One of the best hitters you'll see at Miller park in Milwaukee. He's hit about four hundred at Miller park in his career. He is crushed the cubs lefties, and there's a very good chance of the cubs could have four lefties in their rotation this upcoming season. So it's some dots to connect that the cardinals if they're interested in trading prospects. And they said that they are could be very interested in landing, Paul Goldschmidt, the first. Baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and that would solve a couple of things for them as well cardinals are also in the hunt for left handed relief. So there's lots still to accomplish we are two weeks away from the winter meetings in Las Vegas where two weeks away from our countdown opening day show, and we have a lot of hot stove talk on the way and some hockey talk. Tom will we saw the other day Chicago in Arizona, make a trade to former first round draft picks for another first round draft pick is that a trade? Doug Armstrong is looking into your. You're always looking for your team weather. Whether it's a welcome. Young player. You know, I think what we were. We showing off the last twenty four.

"I appreciate the call. Thank you for for started off with us tonight. Nice to have you with us. I think what I said is giants are lacking the talent to compete with Aaron. With Colorado with the dodgers right now. Now Harrison may be coming back to the pack. They've got some situations with Pollock they may. He may be gone Goldschmidt Goldschmidt may be an issue because he's going to be a free agent. He could be gone Corbin is going to be a free agent. He very likely could be gone, and they may trade Robbie Ray. I don't think anyone's gonna take granny. But I think Arizona may not be as scary next year as they were this year. But I think for Colorado with David doll sort of blossoming, which we always thought that this guy two years ago. It was going to be a big deal and with Marquez and Freeland pitching, really. Well. And the dodger juggernaut dodgers have figured it out. They figured out how to use the waiver wire figured out how to use the minor league options at a used the DL and they've got forty players up up here right now. So I think it's going to be a challenge for the giants. I really do. And I think it's probably more than a one year deal. But I think you want to start getting in the right direction is is the most important thing, you do get in the right direction and start evaluating your players and started getting players that you think can make it, but it's not going to be a simple fix. And I think the five and twenty during the month of September has shown us that time now for today's bald decision of the week sponsored by bridge Bank. The Golden Venture wisely. I think for bocce the ball decision for him. This week was really juggling the rotation and making sure that Bumgarner pitched last night. And I said it when I was at the ballpark last night and. Talk to Boccioni little bit before the game. You know last night's game was against the dodgers. It was you know, the three game series was getting underway. And he juggled the rotation to make sure Bumgarner opened up this rotation against the dodgers and Bumgarner pitched in the World Series. He's pitched the one game playoffs, and it just was a good decision to say, okay. If we're going to do anything this weekend. And of course, if I'm going to pitch the day, and they gave him five or six runs today. John's probably would've won today because he did his job last night's six innings three runs. But I think the ball decision was getting Bumgarner start off the series. I really do is a big series of big game. There was excitement in the ballpark last night. And a ton of dodger fans, that's something. We have to deal with as well be shocked to see that many. And I'll tell you one thing it was around lunchtime today, and I just come back up, and I was standing there, and I wasn't looking at the field and a ball was hit and looked like it was going out and the crowd got so excited. I thought wow, giants have hit home. Homerun and I turned around and hit it. I couldn't believe it. I could not believe I've never heard a crowd like that at AT and T park. Well, the giants came back in the game. And they tied it up five five and the giant fans got into it. And then in the eighth inning. When Milan-San gave up the hit sort of the air came out of the stadium at that point. But this was something to see that many dodger fans in there. So interesting interesting game. But I thought the ball decision of the week was getting Bumgarner to start at last night and to try to get the giant some momentum. And it carried in a little bit today. Derek Rigas didn't have it. But for me, Josh. Probably have something on Bumgarner to show what he did last night. One to pitch.

"When the Rockies bounce back to tie that ballgame with two runs and Trevor story with at RBI, double and becomes the process about this. This really is something for Trevor story. The first shortstop in the history of major league baseball with these four categories. Thirty home runs forty doubles one hundred RBI's twenty five stolen bases. No one has ever done that from the shortstop spot in the history of major league baseball think about some of the the great shortstops of all time. They've never put those kinds of numbers up. Now. I know you get you get different types of shortstop some that aren't power hitter. Some that don't have great speed. But Trevor's that combination. I mean think about Barry Larkin and Alan Trammell and Robin yount. Derek Jeter is never done anything like that Cal Ripken junior. A rod has never put up that kind of season before Ernie banks back in the great years that he had. Was one of the great offensive shortstops of all time. Never in the history of the game has a shortstop tilt. Trevor story at thirty homers, forty doubles hundred RBI and twenty five stolen bases in the same year. We congratulate Trevor story I took out a couple of weeks the season left our number three zero three seven one three eight five eight five three zero three seven one three eight five eight five this is Rockies react for another twenty minutes or so until eleven o'clock local time, and then we'll take that break, and we'll take your calls until then. And speaking of that, let's go the phone lines and speak with Bradley calling from castle. Rock. I bradley. I'm here. How're you doing? Great. You're lost or the Rockies lost. Well, the Rockies. Yeah. I'm not. I'm not rocky signed me. Anyway, what exactly is a backward slider? Okay. That's where the pitcher tries to catch the outside edge of the strike zone against a hitter. So it's a left-handed hitter. He tries to catch the outside. It's the other side of its right handed. He goes the other way. So he throws a slider that a lot of times he tries to get a pitcher a heater to give up on it thinking, it's outside it breaks and catches the outside corner back door. Okay. Like a curveball. Yeah. Here's a Becker curve. There's a back door any kind of breaking ball that kind of catches the outside corner against to hitter. Okay. Who are the Rockies playing tomorrow night? Playing the Arizona Diamondbacks game three of the four game series. Arizona diamondbacks. They always have our number. The. They're even with a series right now at one game apiece. We're going to break off a Bradley from Castlerock three. Oh, three eight three five seven one three eight five eight five zero number three zero three seven three eight five. Eight five is a telephone number. And again back to Trevor story for just a second. And we'll go to break in a moment here, but think about this. And if you wanna call and give the opinion on Trevor, but I read a long article about Paul Goldschmidt in how he should be the National League MVP. So let's just let's just compare the numbers Paul Goldschmidt sitting to ninety nine. Trevor story is hitting two Ninety-three just about even story has thirty two home runs Goldschmidt has thirty three. Those are body even to restore is one hundred RBI Goldschmidt. As Eighty-three story has seventeen. More runs batted in. Then Paul Goldschmidt Goldschmidt, S, five stolen bases. Trevor story has twenty-five they both play gold glove defense. So every. Thing is about the same way, more stolen bases way. More RBI's for Trevor story, then Paul Goldschmidt, yet, the argument is that Paul Goldschmidt, far and away should be the National League MVP. I get it. I mean, I think he certainly is deserving of such. But I think you have to put Trevor story in that conversation as well. With the numbers he has put up and Trevor defensively might be as good as there is in the game these days as shortstop certainly the ground. He covers the army has and and the whole package belongs to Trevor story. And now becomes the first shortstop with thirty homers, forty doubles hundred RBI's and twenty five stolen bases in one season. Your thoughts on that should ever be in that conversation anyway for MVP in the National League three zero three seven one three eight five eight five we'll take a quick break. Back with more of a chorus field on Rockies react on KOA. Newsradio. Ram powered as are here this fall..

I'm at a stage where my mother already was debilitated by disease. And so every day for me is a blessing. After his mother's diagnosis, Serban became an advocate for people with Huntington's disease. He began studying the brain and sharing what he learned on a new blog. Then in two thousand twelve, something happened that was big news, especially in San Diego word of a mysterious death and apparent suicide by a powerful athlete, a force, former San Diego charger, junior CEO had shot himself in the chest. Not be endangering the wellbeing of students, and we do have a moral obligation servants soon learned. He wasn't the only professor at USD who felt that way. My name is the dove Goldschmidt Goldschmidt is a psychology professor. He was born in Israel, but came to the US for grad school. He took an immediate liking to American football, but gold schmead gradually grew on easy about the brain injuries associated with the sport. And then eight years ago he had a son and I thought to myself, there's no chance in the world that I'm going to let him play football. This sparked a very professional real chain of thinking, why would I accord the same protection that a code, my son to those in my community in those in my in my immediate community Goldschmidt decided he should fight to get rid of football at USD. I think that people to some degree are entitled to do stupid things. The NFL can form they're minor leagues, but given what we know, I don't think it should be played at the collegiate level. Gulch meet teamed up with professor Serban into USD physicists named Daniel Sheehan they decided to do something that as far as they knew had never been done at another college, they were going to put forward a resolution to ban football at their institution, not for budget reasons, but because they believed it was the right thing to do. The resolution was to be taken up and voted on by faculty at the academic assembly. Goldschmidt knew it would be a tough vote to win fighting. The status quo is always hard, but he also knew that change can happen on college campuses and at least one instance a popular college sport had been brought to an end and it was because of faculty. It was a incredible scene. They would put chairs on the basketball floor and actually draw a couple more thousand people than they could for basketball. They had a ban that would play before the bout started. That's journalist and author, Doug Moe describing typical scene at the field house in Madison. The boys led by John Walsh, coach of the badgers from nineteen thirty, four to nineteen fifty eight. Lots to discuss Tristan. What does their six weeks left? Six, four weeks. Let's see where rather than fine. I think it's six now. You're right. It's six more weeks, six more weeks. Lots going to happen. Obviously the real life pennant races are awesome first place up for grabs and at least three divisions. Why my team could win more games as we can. I couldn't tell you, but I it's hard for Phillies bands to be unhappy. They're still only half game out of first place. I wanna take a net that they can still be this way in four weeks. I'll really be happy. Racist, especially the wildcard are just out of control and that's good for fantasy. Right? I mean, because more teams will try, let's greatly NO only legs, but how about the well mean? Houston gave up place. I know the the west is all that matters. There you know your Yankees. They're probably say for a wildcard game, but you know, losing streak in Seattle can get back into that. So a lot can still happen in fantasy as well, although, and we'll get to this. There's a big difference in a player going on the disabled list from a first place team and one for a last place team. So that's something to be concerned at where middle, you know a team that just out of it. So if you've got Joey Joey Votto or might trout, I wanna tell you, they're going to come back in a week and play all the games, but I can't do that and we'll get to that coming up in the buzz. Well, I didn't wanna leave with this, but I guess we're leading with injuries. Cornered yourself, come on give. No, I'm not going to do it. Other than injuries to as a week to shell positive street. We love it. Awesome. The best player in fancy over the past week easily was Ronald a Kuna junior homered every day where he got hit, but nothing digital at the spread of his numbers on the last seven. I mean, they're extraordinarily high was at nearly three in terms of the point grades for all five categories. I don't think I could remember a player like that. Well, I mean, obviously the home run streak that stopped a little while ago, but then he stole a couple of basis over the weekend and they got swept at home and the love. But to see him back, he was very into this is Mike trout. Man, like this is the NFL Mike trout next year. I'm wondering just how generous I'm going to rank him. He's already batting to ninety scoring runs with the leadoff hitter. He can have thirty home runs this season. He's at nineteen with six weeks to go. That's you know, more than one a week, but he just hit one a day for a week, ten stolen bases. If he ends up in. Limited action with like twenty eight home runs and like eighteen steals. I mean, who are we not going to rank them ahead of? I'm kinda serious here like is in a second round pick next year. Now, second round pick. I mean the the dynasty and keeper rancor in me is all on board with that. I mean, even then you could start to make the case about a top ten pick. But yeah, I mean, that's what I'm thinking. Like comparing him to. I see your Turner, right. Well, I mean, I want to think of somebody who is more like a thirty home or twenty steel threat like Goldschmidt Goldschmidt at this point is like a thirty home or twenty steel guy..
