I'm Laurie Brooks, really good news about a really bad problem now, buried in a massive government spending bill is a provision that will shut down shady animal dealers who buy and sell pets for research all paid for by your tax dollars. But that could be changing if Congress does the right thing and cuts off funding to pay for licensing of what they call class B, animal dealers by the USDA. You see, every year, these license dealers with illegal bunchers round up thousands of dogs and cats who will then end up in laboratories. These animals include illegally trapped stray dogs and cats, some in fact are even stolen right out of their yards. Others are purchased from shelters and flea markets, usually for under $20, and then sold to laboratories for hundreds of dollars. The USDA says class B dealers supply laboratories with only about 3200 dogs a year, but other sources, including the HBO documentary dealing dogs, places that number it closer to 40,000 each year. 20 animals that people love and keep as pets will be on an upcoming set of first class forever stamps issued by the postal service, a tan and white puppy, a golden lab, a spotted kitty, it's heavy and the dapple gray horse each have a stamp of their own, as do a white mouse, some green parakeets, a blue and gold macaw, rabbit, chinchilla, a gerbil, Guinea pigs, and hamsters. There are even stamps for non furry friends who aren't as soft and cuddly. Also featuring on these stamps will be a hermit crab and iguana, a tortoise, a corn snake, a gecko, a goldfish and a beta fish. The postal service hasn't said exactly when these four ever pet stamps will be issued, but it might be as early as May, which is national pet month. Canine killer, as he is called by his handlers, is a very special service dog. His job is to hunt down rhinoceros poachers in South Africa, which is something plugging that country and depleting the number of wild rhinos beyond oblivion. Killer works with an anti poaching force in Kruger National Park and over the past four years, he and his team were responsible for the arrest and prosecution of over a 115 people. So to honor killer, he's been awarded a gold medal, which was presented to him by actor Ricky Gervais. I am Laurie Brooks, get more breaking animal news anytime at animal radio dot com. When you want to listen to it, joining us, animal radio veterinary correspondent doctor Marty Becker is back, how you doing? Oh, doing good friend. I heard on one of your teas was talking about colonics and dogs. And that's the true story over the holiday. I followed a van in Spokane that they did colonics and the bumper sticker said hooked on colonics. I can't get that thing out of my mind. A mobile colonic van, huh? Mobile chronic van, yeah, that goes, I guess, goes to your whole office, but you know one thing is funny they do do quite a few fecal transplants in dogs now. I heard about that. Yeah, that's something that's really oncoming, but here's what I want to talk about. I have some things that I want to get real here with things that maybe your veterinarians telling you that he shouldn't and things that your veteran might not tell you because either they're too busy. So let's start with the things that if you have a veterinarian that is still recommending you get vaccinations every year for all the core diseases and dogs and cats, you should find another veterinarian. It's inexcusable, except in some extreme case that doctor Debbie and I probably don't even know. All the research is very well documented and the vaccine guidelines that have been produced by our professional organizations and including like the American animal hospital association the American medical association American association of feline practitioners. Most of these cor vaccines are given every three years. Some other things need to be given yearly like bordetella for dogs and there's some things that are mandated by law in certain areas. But if you have a veterinarian that's still every year poking full of holes like a watering can, I think it's unconscionable. You know, that's a dramatic change over the last couple of decades. Yeah, we know differently now. I mean, some people even claim that a one time distemper shot is all you ever need. I can't go there because the research has not been done. The duration of immunity, what we call it has not been done, so we need to follow the vaccine guidelines, but most of these now, we know the immunity lasts last three years. And you can test, it's much more reasonable to test titers now. So if you're the kind that wants to actually see like the fuel gauge in your car, how many antibodies your pet has and is protected, you can do that. But there's still a disproportionate, and I'm not talking, you know, I don't even know what the number was. 25% of veterinarians that are still recommend every year. And that's a ripoff. And I'll get mail for that. I'll get hate mail. I might even get a death threat. But that's the truth. Okay. So that's one thing. And two, you know, we're smart enough to know that you probably are going to get your flea and tick products somewhere other than the veterinary hospital. At least there's a good chance. We do have products that are proprietary that are the state of the art, the leading products that you can only get from a veterinarian. And there's a good argument to be made for some of those that that's what these pets should have. But you know what?

"Well, Alexis. Okay. It's also presidents day sale in the dollar dog bend. Now, it says dollar right there on the title. Yes. But if it's a president's day sale, is it dime? Tyler Ben? Are we getting these away for 5 cents each? Two nickel stories? Two nickel stores. All right, two nickel stories coming at you. Wow. First one is adorable. You probably seen it. We love it so much. This went viral in a way that should have gone viral. Yes. There was a man. With his gorgeous golden lab. Maybe a yellow lab. Point is it was adorable. Here in Los Angeles. Trying to pick up his food. And the restaurant said, I'm so sorry, no dogs. Yeah. And then another man came up and said, I'll watch your dog, which in and of itself is a grand act of kindness. Until you find out that the man that said, I will watch your dog, so you can go get the food, was none other than one Harry Styles. What would you do? What would you do? If you were in a pickle and Harry Styles came to the rescue. He just said, I got it. And there's a photo of Harry Styles holding this man's dog. And the dog is a puppy at the time. They're saying something a year old, so that's part of the problem too. I can't leave this dog outside. And it's just Harry Styles standing on the corner with somebody's dog. Just I'm not sure for you. Don't worry about it. So cute. We love it so much. Harry Styles. Now, I want this to continue to happen, but I also want to let Harry Styles off the hook that we already love you. Oh yeah. You're good? You're good. You can retire. I mean, I guess I'll take more. Ignore how to do. Just a question for you. Are you good at recognizing celebrities when you see them around? Nope. Not at all. I would say, well, that is a handsome man. It's talented. I had the exact when I saw the photo. I was like, I guarantee you I would never realize that that was Harry Styles, because I'm mad at all. Just never notice. Not even a little bit. Not even a little bit. I am going to be like, oh, they seem familiar. I wonder if I've worked with them or something. Like my brain never jumps to, it's a celebrity. I always go, oh, do I know them? Should I have said hi? Maybe? I don't know. I feel like they get that all the time celebrities, I think are reporting that most people think that you went to high school with them. Yes. It makes sense. That seems like a common thing. I am also very good at making a civilian a celebrity. Interesting. Running up to them. Yeah. I love your work. And they're like, that's not me. I think that is not me. I work at JCPenney's. All right. But I love it so much. I love it because I think if I were Harry Styles, that because I'm an old lady, right? So I shouldn't know that name and I know that name. So that's how I know how famous somebody is, is by no one, then you're very famous. I think that that was a grand gesture to be like, I'll hold your dog because the consequences of that. Now it's a story that's gone viral. Yes. Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. We love it. We love it. All right, Alexis. What else have we got? That's dime. Dog Ben. Yes. For your second nickel story. So obviously as promised, we are a show that does zero research. Thank you. So this article headline that we both read, but did not read the article before. Is California lawmaker proposes dog and cat Bill of rights. Come on. Now, I'm sure this is a wonderful Bill. I'm sure that has good things in it. We didn't read it though. We're just going to tell you what we assume, isn't it? And I think that's the best way to do it. Yes. That makes sense to me, because who has time to read an article, just based off headlines alone, a law is going into effect for dog and cat Bill of rights. So I feel among those right. And this is a legitimate thing that I think is true is that when I look for an apartment, as of now, it'll say no pets allowed. So what I'm guessing is this means pet required. Yes. You can not move into the building without a pet. I think? Does that seem right? Yes, yes. Okay. Or maybe you have to pay a non pet fee. You know, that seems about right. Yeah, exactly. So there's still a security deposit, but it only applies to humans. Who are living there without a pet to take care of that. Exactly. If that's your for helping the house, why would I? Thank you. Yes, exactly. Thank you so much. Okay, so pets are required in every apartment in Los Angeles. Yes, great. Good Bill. They do say there is now similar to the Harry Styles story. I think there will be now a person outside of every establishment to hold your dog so that you can go anywhere with your dog. Oh, thank goodness. Now I love this so much..

"This Sunday, the college football playoff committee released their final rankings of the season. It's a process that is obviously fraught with drama and controversy and the consequences impact millions of sports fans. But last week, ESPN dailies resident hockey expert went through a similar exercise in an attempt to find out who really is best in show. So Aaron Vail, you are one of our producers here at ESPN daily. One of the brilliant behind the scenes people that I personally rely on, but you came out from behind that curtain to debut an important piece for ESPN dot com. What did you power rank for our website? So Pablo, I power ranked the NHL's official team dogs. And what that means is what does that mean exactly? 'cause I didn't know NHL teams had dogs to be honest. So it's a pretty recent phenomenon, but a lot of NHL teams will announce that they have this team dog. They've partnered with a rescue organization or a dog that's training to be a service dog for a veteran or something like that. That will be their team dog. So they'll be doing this training, but then they'll also kind of come to games, come to the arena, interact with fans, become a social media darling. So that's kind of the role of the team job. Very important, very cute. There's some unofficial team dogs like bark Andre furry, he's kind of more of a fan favorite. Hold on. You can't just you can't just casually say bark Andre furry. And not expect refere. Yeah, I mean, let's just stand and applaud here for a second. That is, I mean, I don't know if anyone beats bark Andre furry on the name level, but it sounds like there were other dogs that you found even more impressive than again bark Andre for it. Barga is really cute, great name all around, and you know, when it came to ranking them, I had to kind of devise a system for myself for how I was going to rank them. Of course. So name was definitely one factor. It wasn't kind of the most important, but if the dogs had a sort of hockey related name like bark bark Andre furry named for Vegas golden knights goaltender Mark Andrew, of course. But then selly is the Minnesota wilds team jog and Sally is hockey slang for celebration, goal celebration, you know, 6 Ellie. And I think Sally is a really, really cute hockey dog name. So the name definitely played into it. And then, you know, social media presence, which I know. Aaron, the class. I know I shouldn't really be docking the dogs for this because there are wonderful humans who are doing the social media for these dogs, but kind of how active are they on social media? What are their antics? What are they up to? Because some of them I knew of before I put the list together, but others I kind of had to dig to find. Like, flex the oilers team dog. I didn't find out about flex until I went to the Euler's website and saw the press release. So I had scoured their Twitter, but hadn't seen anything about flex. So I would like to see more flex. But and I shouldn't know that it's not only team dogs that were included in the ranking. I did kind of search to see if any of the teams had other animals. And the Dallas stars do have a team cow. Yeah, wait, so the deep cow, of course, is named one. Mike mudon. Yeah, I protest on Mike McDonald's behalf. No idea how that's just an honorable mention Eric. Yeah, he's definitely the top cow. If I were to rank NHL team cows, he would get the number one spot. Let's get to the real winner here because I want to dive into biscuit. Aaron, the caps dog, who you have awarded your your your trophy here, right? I mean, look, this is partly also in your algorithm. Some personal bias, but I'm shocked to find out that you have given this award to the Washington capitals dog. When you yourself, I mean, anybody who knows you know is you are a buffalo sports maniac. And you did not give it to the Sabres dog, which I imagine wasn't easy to make this decision. Yeah, it wasn't easy. The sabers very, very recently adopted their team job Rick, who I gave the number three spot to. He's very cute. I'd love to meet him someday. But I should note for a journalistic integrity. I was actually born in Washington D.C.. So I do have a little bit of a Washington tie there. And it is a sort of Vale family tradition to name dogs after buffalo sports figures. So my childhood dog growing up was named biscuit after bill's legend, Cornelius Bennett, his nickname was biscuit. So there's been Kelly after Jim Kelly, a flutey for Doug flutie, obviously Lindy for Lindy rough, Reggie for regiment Mackenzie and Allen, of course, for Josh Allen. Well, hold up, hold on. I just realized that Lindy ruff is itself a dog. And also a real person named rough. Right, which didn't even come into play when we were naming her Wendy. We just had decided the next dog we got we wanted to name Lindy after Lindy rough. But because Lindsey rough is just Lindy rough, former sabers head coach. Of course. It doesn't even register as a dog pun. So, yes. But I will say the caps have had by far and away the cutest team dogs, their last dog captain was also adorable. He's this like squishy golden lab who was fantastic. He had such cute pictures, got to watch him grow up and now he has kind of retired. So I gave him a retiree slot. But biscuit has just become like a star and they've got imposing in front of the Washington Monument. You know, every time he sees a batch game, he kisses his face. Oh, vetch Ken has never been more adorable. Threw us, honestly. I mean, just describe for those listening here who have not had the pleasure of snuggling with biscuit. What biscuit looks like, I suppose? Biscuit is a little chocolate lab puppy, he's grown quite a bit. He's kind of mid sized. He's not fully grown yet. He's still kind of in that in between phase. But he has just like the sweetest, most soulful eyes. He looks really, really soft. Every video of him running to meet and greet a player is kind of like, you know those videos of veterans coming home and seeing their dogs for the first time and years. That is every time biscuit interacts with a cast player. It's so cute. Oh, God. Wait, so how have these dogs stands? Their fan base, they're hives. How have they reacted to this ranking? You know, everyone thinks that their team dog should be number one, which I totally understand. I definitely saw some islanders fans saying that Monty, the islanders, puppy, who's another, I think, black lab, who's.

"Least, I'm thinking about it in a way. Like, do you know what I mean? Like, you kind of you know what a dog is in your mind. You can kind of like throw my guys I've never been asked so many questions about the illustrations. I love this. Thank you for answering. I'm sorry. I'm so ignorant and curious about it. No, no, it's great. It's fun to like, you know, I'll start off with just like paint as far as general shape, color, blobs, and then like it's fun to go in and like carve it out. But yeah. Yeah, I guess I'm replacing the word fun with meditative, but it's like, yeah, it's relaxing in a way where like something else might be more precise. I also love drawing humans. Right. But depending on who the work is for, like, there's almost more of precision right now. Right, we're right. Yeah. I just feel like maybe that and this is groovy. But in transcends into whatever, like the bakers who make dog shapes and the closing people who do that, I'm wonder if just the mere essence of putting a dog into the work if it is more like, ah. We're giving and loving and I think oh, yeah. I've never tapped into that, but you're exactly right. So funny. Dogs. What aren't you making better? I ask you. What are you? This is to piggyback on your grooviness and I like that you're using that word 'cause I love it too. One thing that is fun is if I can choose the background for it. Some people want it look like this photo. I want you to see their bed or whatever. But others it's kind of more traditional like portrait portraiture and then I can fill the background and I love deciding like, what color? Like, you know, it works with this dog. It's a good mask. Of this dog. Isn't it? It's that. It's exactly that, yep. Man. Oh, I love that. Yeah, yeah. Honestly, I feel like I could completely dominate all of your evening, just going through hypothesis of which well what about this? Yes. And then what color with this dog? I know, I almost like I'm tempted. If we had, if this was a visual thing and not a podcast, I would immediately be like, okay, I'm gonna show you a picture of dog. You tell me what color you put us in. It was that. Yes. Do you have a path to do that? Okay, okay, because we talked about them earlier. If you just saw a golden lab, do you associate it a color with a golden lab in particular? Obviously, gold, but that's true. After that, maybe blue. Yeah. Oh yeah. That's good. That's a very loyal combination right there. Asking. Yeah. It seems classic pairing in a way. I love it. That's amazing. Also, listeners, yes, we know it's also called yellow lab. Can I put your dog call them golden labs because they are golden? They're gold. And that's pretty spicy. Also my childhood first dog's name was Nikki. So. No way. Yeah. What type of dog? She was a yellow lab mix, though. But you just said that, didn't you? Oh my God. No, no, I didn't. I just lacked. We were talking about it. We were talking about golden labs and I was like, okay, Nikki was a golden lab. And then I went Nikki, Nikki, Mickey's a golden lab. No, Nicky's down there. There we go. We gotta go. Only one. Slightly different. Thank you. Thank you. And finally. I don't think entirely to be able to in the podcast without knowing this information. Absolutely. We covered it, thank God. Yes. Now there is a game that we are a little bit more well versed in. What's the dog's aura will now be implemented into the regular base? Oh, I love that. But when we usually play, is name that dog whereas when you give me a fictional character. You're giving a name. So Alexis, let's debrief together. I'm thinking pug and sharpay. Oh, interesting, 'cause I was thinking, because she mentioned big poofy dog. So what if we mix could we do poofy dog Chapin? So big poofy wrinkly? Yeah, that's funny. Yeah, I like it too. Okay. But are you okay? But hold on, I think we needed to define what the poof is. Okay. White. Sure. Okay, but is there a breed? Is it a great Pyrenees? Yeah. So great Pyrenees in a second. Yes, exactly. So huge poof huge wrinkly dog. Huge wrinkly dog. Okay. And a boy or girl Alex. And I think it's a girl. A girl. Okay. Huge poofy wrinkly dog and it's a girl. Nicki whenever you're ready. Okay, I'm visualizing right now and just trying to get really good. And you can tell it does look a little bit like a walrus, you're right. Yes. That's where I was going. And you can also tell us the color that you think would be behind it. Okay. The color's coming in first. Okay. And that is kind of like a mauve lavender. Beautiful. I know. Mix. She's at the top of the chakra. Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I think I got it. It's not what I would name a dog. Okay. For some reason Persephone is like oh yeah. Through. And maybe we could shorten it to some Percy. Princess peach, she's got a million nicknames for me. Yeah. That's perfect. And you need to make name for a creature this big, I feel like. Yes, you have to. Just simply have to. Well, mythical little mystical. There's something couldn't love it more. Simply couldn't love it more. Nikki, you are such a sport. We love you so much. I feel like people are like, where are these illustrations? Where do we see them? Oh my God. Yes, so you could look on my website, which is Nikki Oz dot com or I have an Instagram, which is Nikki. Zero 8 draws perfect. Like Nikki O draws. Perfect. Yeah, so those are where those are located. Wonder love it. I love it. So much thank you for making time for this video. Thank you for having me. I'm going to remember all the dog things I want to tell you as soon as we start. Of course. Amazing. Thank you..

"I've been getting getting responses about the quality of the The production and the song and more importantly Quite a few people have mentioned the emotional aspect this on how it's made think about people to the to the point where one person when she saw the golden lab marcus running down the beach. She had brought back memories of her favorite dog shadow. And so i guess it's one of those things that means different things to different people. This song is beautiful berry touch. Well i'm happy I guess. I happy it was. I'm glad that he liked that. Was the point of a song is a tribute to your friend. Richard but also to connect with fans with the feel of the passion. That had for your friend. Maybe you can. I guess that's one perspective. It's one take on it. I think what actually was was. I just thought or felt that something had to be done to Remember and it may sound a little simplistic but sort of wanted to remember in all honesty. The song was formulated before richard died. It was it was sort of underway and he became. He became ill. We didn't know at the time while it was going on. And then when he did die. I just i had to get it out i. It sounds strange and maybe a bit contrived. You know you've got it really wasn't i tried to do to get it out in a different way. I approached some people to see if they'd be interested in in doing it. And it's funny. How everything seems these days seems to have some sort of innuendo something implied or politics. That comes into virtually anything. People don't just accept and see things for what they are. I just wanted more people to to hear the song and possibly think about you. Know richard at the beginning and end as part of memoriam. But that didn't didn't work out. Had a lot of people listen to it and say. Oh it's a lovely thought to interest song but that was the end of it and then i spoke Spoke to richard's husband. David and i guess i was away his permission. But i i wanna do this. And i'm going to do it and spoke to a couple of richard of mutual friends that richard. I have and got some encouragement and just decided that i was going to do. I had you know. I had visions of being a cathedral with a robed choir singing the chorus. All that i thought just just do what you what you feel like doing and it. It seems to have worked. I mean i got lucky with the young woman who i hired to pull it altogether. Stacey cody's here in saint catharines and we had a talk and she read over the lyrics. And i kind of gave her a very very broad perspective on how i saw things and my wife was listening into at the meeting when stacy laughed my wife. Holly said she seems pretty. Good i agree. She said she's an artist. Just let her do think. I'm glad i did. I mean she asked for my opinion on locations and various other aspects. But quite honestly i would say ninety five percent of what i suggested wasn't adopted. She had the theme and pulled it all together. i really liked it and it was great. It was a real adventure for me doing this for the first time in with a video and it it turned out rather well stacey to degrade interpretation of the lyrics. The video was an incredible representation of the passion. That you had in the lyrics of the song dance seemed to be real real connection and it was a lot of fun too. I mean not the the the gentleman who appears in the movie was his dog. Were trends of richard as well markets. The the dog got a lot of lot of attention. But everything just seemed to pull pulled together and i can assure people that know the song. The the fellow in the song was wasn't richard and he's still alive and well and lives down the street from us honestly. I thought that as well thank you for telling me that stacy has done work for other local bands. Apparently i wasn't too familiar with it You know it's like anything else. I my my background has given me a lot of experience in hiring people in what in understanding what's required. It's always believed that you know it. It doesn't matter if you're doing the video if you're recording an album if you're running any kind of start up business or as a matter of fact any kind of business that you look for the the best people that you can find that we're with you that have chemistry's kind of a broad brush but a good understanding of.

Respect is my life after migra because no one gives a shit about the lights to our career. you is. he going to have problems next. Is he trying to get a get a a an option of surgery. That's going to make it better for after his career ideas long career left the ibm. I never thought about that now. A honestly you know could could what they want. Be better for the career for sure about fuses neck. He'd three more of them throughout his life. Not exactly so. Like the first time i yes. Thank long-term please. You know what. How did that come to be the the blue originally. Just reach out to you personally and like what was your overall experience with the islanders. I you've put up some really good numbers and got your career back on track. Now you're one of the best in the world. But i mean it was. This is what a lot of people don't know rights. And i mean that's why you know go now. Your guys is podcast right. Always a little bit of the team was a little bit scared me telling them i was coming with you today. Are now my team in vegas. Y'all got great. You know it's good conversations but again you you gotta be open and talk. You know in the indiana today. I own what happened in buffalo bills a lot of mistakes from a lot of different sides. Ice you don't people like say. I screwed up a lot. But it's kind of weird to in the ninety two. Save percentage there. I don't know the last golden lab at their Ryan miller did by the through my three years. But i was the worst in the world. But that's how it works you. You're not winning two goalies fault then a coach and all less stuff right but It was not good situation For me personally. I didn't have. I didn't. I regret a lot of things that i did too. I owned that But you know went to rehab was shit show off to rehab. You know coming out after we have been. You don't know where you're going to be where you're gonna go You're sitting waiting You really have no clue about the future and that was kind of the hardest time. I've had the i had Even before re was off to rehab Adult that month of month and a half of waiting and kind of see things. And i got invited to a few teams to interview and i went to a team. That just treated me like such a piece of shit. That almost relapsed onto almost relapsed. The same day. I took a flight back from that place. Because the gm was good by you know the coach sitting there taking ship off to rehab and then the mindset that i was in getting nye was it wasn't toronto. Feeling you would just chit nanya. Yeah just shit on me for a just totally shit. "They're mainly to their territories. So you need to start from there find. Fabio told chris he had in fact done exactly what chris was hoping had initiated a fresh review of the rufo case. Stocking now is the case cold-case if rufo is in italy fabio said his continued freedom depends on both his aversion to risk and the quality of his forged papers forge documents. The basis of everything for future think fabio said it would be difficult to pierce the shield of protection. Rufa would've built up over two decades of life in a new identity. The only way is to is to stop living police chair by chance in any case standard. Police officer with us he to show his passport israelites. Us if show. I will craft for the documents even the okay. This is basically you need to have a reason to to get fingerprints from the person in decades. The the only possible way to identify a fugitive search jer. Who for is to to get his. This is the only way. John rufo was arrested in europe or later in an elsewhere and fingerprinted it when anybody know that he's working in the united states yes of course. Yes this is so. That would be over the course of several hours. Fabrio began introducing. Chris and eric to a succession of senior national police. The head of the financial crimes unit the head of the anti mafia division. The head of the narcotics squad. Some were eager to dig into the details of the rufo case the head of drug enforcement speaking with an interpreter. Ask therapy if he had wanted posters they could distribute around the country provided one hundred. Us marshal wanted posters. So it's a success no matter what the big but also much others were more skeptical like this man who heads the anti mafia section and also spoke with me through an interpreter g again without giving the age cookie duress actually on the most wanted poster also awfully composite amke golden lab restored. The age progression is so now with sixties so anyways we will. We will look for jackson our and the for mr. Yeah at the end of the day. Fabrio joined the marshals for dinner at a treasury. Ria on the road back towards rome over pasta and chianti fabrio vowed to them. He would work the case with fresh vigor view. His guys worked this case before the done phenomenal work and just like any case after years go by it dies out so we're here because we just want maybe the bring back into as we loaded back into the van and drove back in the direction of rome. I was uncertain. Had this journey bene- success then. I thought about the series of meetings. How every one of the senior national police officials even the skeptical head of organized crime held a thick file packed with information about john. Rufo eric rung told me a fuse had been let it put john rufo literally in the forefront I think in the conversation with especially with people who can make things happen. He's cool here. You know the the colonel and charged to john rufo. We're gonna talk more about. The author seems a priority for them. So that's pretty neat to to hear firsthand as we. We've passed the coliseum and through the center of this ancient city the marshals seem satisfied. If rufo was hiding in italy his life was about to get a little less comfortable. This just puts it back on top. So everyone's talking about john rufo which is great. That's what we want. These are the people who make decisions. the general the colonel. They're the ones that if things happen in italy. They're the ones that they're going to make. It happen for an investigation. That's made so little headway. After so many years. The search for john rufo suddenly seems to have sprung back to life the marshalls are doing fresh digging on that old tip about the dominican republic to see if he really was. They're using an alias. They also have renewed interest in the efforts by the italians who've been doing their own digging whether john rufo should be concerned about that this many years after he vanished off the face of the earth. That depends on who you ask even a year. After rufo sled jeffrey lichtman. His lawyer famously said on sixty minutes he thought rufo would never be caught. Because from what i can see so far. He's smarter than the people looking for them. I asked c'mon how he felt about it now more than two decades later. I think they'll ever capture him. No i don't think they'll ever capture john russo. And he had one more thought to add. I don't encourage people to jump bail and runaway. But if you ask me if. I'm happy that john rufo is still gone. Yes i'm i'm happy for him. I hope he's healthy. I hope he's doing okay. I hope you found some happiness. Wherever he is and is. I often think about this. You wanna disappear. It's not that hard as long as you're willing to do what needs to be done to stay disappear. Which is you have to cut off. Everything caught off everybody in your lives. Never talked to anyone. Never show up anywhere and just disappear. And that's what. John apparently do others. Don't feel nearly as charitable towards rufo or to the achievement of besting. Us law enforcement and the american justice system for the better part of two decades on a recent trip back to delaware. I stood with berry. "16 year old with no structure at home. You know we were treating him like college kids They're not logging on. They're probably, you know, staying up late doing different things because it just ends up being that way. They're they're great. They're suffering across the district across the state. For that matter, Any district that is not in person. Those grates and those test scores are going down because they don't have the emotional I Q too. Make this a priority. That is why having them accountable and in a structured environment, It's part of that development that is so critical of this age. What? Why is it fundamentally difficult in an environment in which everyone agrees Those kids need education more than the kids in Lebanon, the home of the Golden Lab, the kids in 11 and largely function, but they show up. Generally they know how to behave. They follow the rules. They take the test. They go home. Those kids from Avondale, Evanston, Western Hills need it more than anyone else. But they're the only school district that largely has been out for the past year. And so you go to some of the meetings. What is the justification that the 35,000 kids there are different than the 150,000 kids who go to school every day and an Archdiocese of Cincinnati, the archdiocese, says 150,000 Children. And various schools grade school, No Middle school's great schools and icicles 150,005 times the number of CPS that have been in school playing sports handling the problem without outbreaks. How does somebody look at that agenda and CPS and say that sounds good to us? Let's go back sometime in February, when the thing is in complete collapse and then Catholic school parents are not only paying for private school education, which is 5 6000. Five or 6000 at Saint Ex Iraqi tells me is like $15,000 a year and in addition to their property taxes, how can they look at themselves and really play the game and act as if they're doing what's right for the kids when they know where they live? It's awful. It's terrible. It's not working as a pawn in their own agendas. Whatever that agenda is the political agenda. Is it A Hey, I loved staying at home and phoning it in agenda. I mean, they're using the Children as a pawn. And the students that I have direct interaction with and on a pretty much a daily basis. Um, they want to be in school They like you know, at first. I think it sounded like a giant, You know, vacation. Oh, yeah. This will be great. But the more it went on there like Actually want to come because I get food at school. I get structured school. I get interpersonal interaction. School school was safe school is safe in many ways, emotionally safe. It is physically safe. Um, So these kids want T dude, Because clearly in person, you can ask the questions of the teacher. The teacher can see your body language that you may or may not be getting the concept that's going on. You know, it's more heat hands on If you're liking chemistry, you know, how do you learn Chemistry virtually with sometimes without actually Turning on the Bunsen burner. You know what I mean? And the remote is you're just staring at a screen or you may or may not be on it and and the burden on the parents and the parents want to get back to work because our society whether we like it or not, it's structured if you have young Children You accept the position of a job or a particular shift based on Hey, my Children will be in school from 83. So I can work lot of Ah, And these these parents now, especially the younger kids are having to stay home or juggle, possibly losing lots of lots of income, not to mention the stress that they did not go to school to teach their kids. No, they don't know about, you know, dangling modifiers and you know complete, You know, Timeline of World War two. They're not equipped to do that. They need these these teachers to be there for their their their students. Yeah, I don't understand why we're using the most vulnerable of our population as a pawn and making these things of death truck, But it's crazy. It's not that hard because all you have to do Look at the position like he said of a restaurant person. When you go into a restaurant as a patron, your mask is off. So these thieves, waitresses and waiters and servers are walking around a restaurant with Potentially 50 people. With their mouths off and they're not getting. We're not seeing major outbreaks in restaurants, A dentist, he's in your mouth. A hairdresser is standing with you, potentially for an hour, right in your space touching you. It's not happening. Yeah, you're going to hear? Yeah. There were a couple of outbreaks or hate that word. A nowt break. What is that? I don't know. And outbreak is two people. Three? Yeah. I mean, come on. You know if it was, I gave you the perfect laboratory. 150,000 Catholic boys and girls in school every day this afternoon as we speak, they're actually in school at LaSalle, a cub calf there. Our Lady of victory. They're all saints and Saint George is doing exactly the same stuff that happens in CPS. And they've been in school since the end of August and the majority of public school students whether it's my dear 11 or Deer Park. They've also been in school in buildings, doing exactly the same stuff that happens that at a cane and use and this is exactly the same stuff without an outbreak without cotton. Now there are a few kids get sick Every year. They do the flu, whatever, but it's amazing to me while what is in the school board? The man months ago. Theo operate their schools the way other public slash private schools have done since August. Why didn't Mike Murat Ski Ryan Messer? Melanie Bates? Why didn't they stand up? Stand up? Wait a minute. This is October for the past six weeks. 150,000 kids are in the Catholic school system 11 in Madeira Deer Park that they have in person. Why can't we do it? Why is it taking this long? Exactly. Well, here's the thing and I've heard this argument. Oh, well, they're cry that they have more money for the peopie eat. No, no, and no, they have effectively said. Master Ahn? Yes, they have up their hand sanitizer. Well, guess what? CPS can get their hands on some hand sanitizer. I feel very confident about that. They have the peopie in place. Right now. I know it's available to them, and Lord knows we have money because all these sports stuff with no fans and they won't let any of the field be rented, for instance, like us. We're entering in spring soccer and lacrosse season. Well, many of the clubs your Cincinnati you're united your King's hammer all these rent since a public school field. For games on the weekend. So that's an income stream for sensei public. Well, they just said no, we're not renting fields anymore. So good question because each one of those clubs carries their own insurance. It's not..
