It's our business to protect yours and our special guests this afternoon is Derek Pelt here, outstanding defenseman that played with the Golden Gophers back in just after the runs with the championship seasons of 02 and Old three, But Derek There was no missing a beat for you guys in your area as well because there was a couple of years their old five or six season where you guys had a 14 game unbeaten streak and only one loss in 22 on that stretch, And then the next year, you guys lost the first game of the year they went unbeaten the next 22. What kind of a found What kind of teams would you guys have that dad? You remember that? I don't remember the statistic specifically, But, Yeah, we definitely had some good teams. Um, good group of guys and definitely had a lot of fun. Yeah, we were able to win a couple championships but just never able to go in the When the big one when it mattered most at the end of the year. Well, you made the NC double A's four straight. But with us playing with the golfers playing Wisconsin Badgers today in Madison I'm wondering, I'm pretty sure you were in the building when Phil Kessel scored his one and only goal against the Badgers. Were you on the ice by any chance. I don't remember how them yes or not, But I do remember the goal pre specifically, and I guess the mixed noise from the crowd after he scored Yeah, I'll never forget. I was broadcasting with Glenn Song or at that time, and he was so elated. He jumped out of his seat. And he said, Take that You stink. Welcome back to our free game show is ready for this. All right, take us in the locker room just a little bit, would you, Derek and you know, a lot of people say all things aren't like they used to be back in the old days. But I'll bet you had some characters in the locker room there who are some of the Class clowns If you will on the teams that you played Class clown made a lot of different characters a lot different staff personalities in the locker room, just like any team, right? Um, that some of class clowns that I had probably in my class, You know, Brent Borgen freshman year end of transfer, but he was a fun guy. A lot of energy. Um, you know, Goligoski. Ben Gordon Brent solely always brought a lot of energy to the arrangement. We had a great class way came in with 10 guys and a lot of different personalities. And just wait a lot of fun. You are a conservative defenseman. But what about in the locker room? Were you part of that clownish group? I wasn't that would they? I wasn't quite about going in some of the others way You mentioned the name Ben Gordon. And Of course, he's gone on and got into the coaching. He's been with the goal first. Now for a few years, did you kind of see maybe some signs back in his playing days that that might be the route that he would go. Yeah, For sure. I mean, you know what, Dad, I think it's been pretty heavily involved with hockey. Uh, you know, since he was done playing, and you could tell that Ben kind of want to go down that path to he had mentioned it And you know, his trace on the ice is a very smart hockey player for those I got to watch him and he's very, very highly skilled and very smart. And you know his his aspect of his game with transfer well in the coaching, which You know, it shows today and it's good to see him behind the bench with the maroon and gold. That's for sure. Derek. Unfortunately, gonna have to wrap it up. You're not. I know you're not coaching. But you do have a camp. Tell us quickly if you will about your hockey camp. Yeah, uh, select development program. STP hockey. We run camps in the summer out of Mabel role for super Might sports Pee Wee's and Bantams and we also have a triple A hockey program tied to that were They were able 99 teams under that Triple a program next year as well. So I'm still involved with the youth hockey and help no cue it up later and Maple Grove and a swell in my son's just starting to get going so always fun to be on the ice with kids. Let's take a listen. You've meant so much to your hometown so much to the state of Minnesota. What is it gonna be like to walk off that homeport the last time it'll be bitter. Sweet. I think just there's been so many years so many great moments that I don't know. Hopefully everyone will look back on the years and see how much fun we've had and the different things you've been able to accomplish, and we've done it, you know, and being at home with the fans, its been really special, Wanda Stu birds said the other day that you're the kind of player motivates you but also makes you smile. Is that something that you're gonna bring to the you when you're a head coach? What do you think your coaching style is going to be find out here? I don't know. We'll see. I mean, yeah. I mean, I don't know. I guess it's, you know, it's a really great compliment. This would spend the players is try to make sure that everybody feels really good, really confident. That's been one of my my leadership styles. I don't think it'd be two different different because. I'm the same person. Better better better. You mentioned that you had no regrets in this career that you've left it all out on the court. What's driven you? All of these years. Just love to compete. Love to play. Look to have fun. It's worth, sir. Really fun to me. So I just wanted to do those things as well as I could. And and once I realized that this could be a career I wanted to obviously play to the best of my -bility and eventually when championships into all those things. What is it that you would like to be remembered for as a as the winning player in the WNBA? Every night? Every night you go up there to leave it all on the court and to have done that more than anybody else's. I mean, that's go. Every time you come into the gym is to win. So it's pretty cool.
