"Of the show as we get set for the weekend preview and we have a fair bit of weekend previewing to be previewing. San Anita's got a bunch of big races, and he just got a 12 race card. Golden Gate fields has a, is it 12 or 13? I didn't even look to see if there was a 13th. I think it's just 12. It is just 12. But it's a good 12. Especially the late part of it. Oh, man. If GGF is not a track that in your regular rotation and as we talked about that on yesterday's show, in the modern day of simulcasting, like that's something that's going to happen, take a look at the late sequences. We'll talk about the San Francisco mile, but you know, I think every race in the late pick four is over ten. And late pick 5, I think it's 8 and then ten, right? Yeah. I mean, it's pretty good. Now I guess the late pick 5 is more than that. Yeah, so anyways, we'll talk San Francisco mile a little bit later we'll talk soon. I need a little bit later. And you know the stakes fields are very small, but they're kind of interspersed with some really good big field allowance races, the card kicks off with a turf race with a big field going to turn, so the stakes races are what get talked about and you'll see people online going, oh the only a 5 horse field in this one and I get that. I mean, I think that too. When it comes up. But don't let that keep you away from looking at some of the other races and maybe piecing something together through one of those 5 horse fields. In fact, I want to talk about a 5 horse field example that came up at tampon Wednesday that we will talk about here in just a minute or two. It's opening night at Churchill on Saturday. We will talk a little bit about that, speaking of a small field, The Rock Selena only drew 5. In fact, it feels worth that big for opening night of church, so there's a few in the middle there that are pretty good size. My guess would be a with Derby coming up, you know, a lot of the that week, a lot of the full fields are going to kind of be saved for that. I've noticed that racing secretaries, I think they kind of know where and when they're full fields are. And I know we would have our big Saturdays there through January, February and March, Tampa Bay downs, and I remember on the 15th of January, which was like the first kind of round of preps for the, you know, the basically the preps for the Sam Davis, and then the Tampa Bay Derby, like there was made in special weights, and even some main claimer conditions that were like overfilling, right? And so, and I was like, oh, where did these all come from? And the race secretaries know. And so, and the other thing is too, with keen land, so many people point towards keenland that I'm sure a lot of horses are not going to run back at Churchill until weeks two, three, and four, as we keep going on. That would be my hypothesis as a moderately educated racing person. So we will preview races from those three tracks, I went to the Mariners devil rays gave the other night. It was a total blast. Everybody I would mention, I tweeted out that I was there and I got all these texts from people who were like, it's pretty awful stadium, right? And I was like, I mean, define awful. It felt like the king dome, but it felt like the king dome in 1990 or 91 when the Mariners were lousy. Like you'd go and the whole upper level was basically empty. The fact that cover it with like a sheet so you see you didn't look like empty seats everywhere. It was quiet, you could hear things. Yesterday was definitely the quietest stadium I've ever sat in. For a major pro sports event. It was just so quiet. You could hear a lot of conversation on the field. You could hear conversation amongst individuals throughout the crowd, one of the cool things, though, was the Mariners pitcher, Logan Gilbert, who throws cheese. Such gas, this kid throws. He was throwing like 98 97, and then he slowed down as the game went on, but he went 6 innings and didn't give up a run. He's gone 22 innings and giving up one run the whole season. So he's like one of our new young hot studs, right? Well, his parents and his fiance were sitting right by me. Like right next to me. Like, same robe, but across the aisle. And they were from Orlando. He grew up in the Orlando area. So obviously, you know, kind of as close as he'll get to a homecoming in the pig league. He's like, I love, you know, I didn't really talk to them. I said hello because I kind of overheard them and just said how cool it was that they were getting to watch that. But I really meant that in the sense that it's such a big thing for a young kid realizes his dream makes it to the big leagues and he gets to pitch in front of his hometown. Now granted, there was only about 5000 of his home town crowd there. They listed the attendance at 9200, but if there was 9200 people there, then I'm 7 foot three, because there was not 9200 people there. But a place was clean. It was comfortable. It was just fun to watch a Major League Baseball game. And going back on Thursday for the day game against the marriage. I figured they were in town only the one time I gotta go see my guys. So looking forward to that. And definitely planning on going to an Orioles game again, hopefully this summer and I definitely want baseball to be a more a bigger part of my summer than it has been in recent years and so I've been following the standings. Here in the early going in the Mariners being good helps make that a little easier too, but as me and Scott Shapiro talked about many, many months ago on the show. We just don't watch baseball as much as we used to. And then when I go to a game, I'm like, why don't I watch baseball as much as I used to? I still like the game. I love the strategy. I love I love baseball talk. Talking like Saying cheese and gas. And all that kind of stuff, I love that. So that was my night last night, and it was fun. We had racing a.

"If you remember the fountain of youth, he had run so bad in the breeders cup juvenile, then he came back in the fountain of youth and just never ran a step was beating like 25 links. And he came back and had that decent effort at Ellis didn't run very good at Churchill and then one at Keenan and I hated him that day. I just did not think he was that much. I didn't think it was better than he got up late. He had hard work and win for two to one. But he's two to one again on the morning line and you know he certainly fits on his best day and I wonder if this is an example of me kind of being I don't want to say prejudiced, but against a horse, like I just said it in my mind that like, nope, Dennis moment was a total flash of the pan two year old Romans often to me is not the kind of trainer that will move a horse up later. You know, he's usually better early on having the horse, but there's clearly talent there and the horse is clearly in better form than it was in 2020. Is he two to one better? I don't think so, but you know there's there's not like a ton of town this race endorsed is in here who seems to always take a little bit of money and often shows up. It hasn't won in quite a long time. Wind of change toward the inside for safi Joseph a lot of speed, a horse who hasn't done amazing at Gulfstream. That to me was a little bit of a concern was one for 7 with a couple seconds. But seems to make the lead a lot and then get caught a lot. So just not sure. And has kept pretty solid company, but this is solid company. This is the mystery prospector. And it's funny because this horse actually ran in the other mister prospector at and won the other mister prospector at mama, so looking to sweep the 2021 mister prospectors, even though one's greater than one's not. I'll get a kick out of that. Flapjack shows up in here for Jack sisterson. I thought I kind of liked this horse against Dennis moment two starts back and Dennis moment beat him when he was kind of widely loomed up like he was going to make a big move. But I don't know, Gulfstream is such a funny track too, right? That's another reason I'm kind of against Dennis's moment now. I know like I said this was kind of back when he was in that funk of whatever kind. And so maybe just something to miss, but Gulfstream to me is one of those tracks where a lot of times you'll get horses who just will completely relish it or just won't fire at all. I mean, they just totally no show and I wonder if that's the case with Dennis moment. In a short price, like I'm just never gonna take a horse like that with who I think has questions, but also just I don't think it's that great. I'll see you Monday for the recap show when he wins. We'll talk about it then. I mentioned earlier gold gate fields with a nice card on Saturday, the bear fan stakes the feature event day a field of 13. And I know a lot of folks don't like all weather. That's fine. You don't have to. You don't have to play. There's no rules. But I just thought a contentious group, there's a fair amount of speed. It's a 6 for a long race. You know, you'd think that. I don't know that speed is some necessary weapon at Golden Gate fields. We've talked to a couple of writers who have been based there over the years, and a lot of them say that it's, you know, just getting your horse to relax, whether it's on the lead, whether it's back, that seems to be a big part of the secret for success there because you've seen slow paces and, you know, horses still closing from last and getting up and winning. It's just, it's not, you know, it's just doable. Also, I was kind of intrigued that daffodil sweets in here who's kind of been the queen of emerald downs over the last couple of years is a wickedly fast early type or has been at least on occasion and it seems to have kind of learned to come from off the pace a little bit if need be. And the two local races were in non condition allowance and they weren't great. A second and a fourth, I don't think she's quite at the level of some of these. There's some good horses in here. Tim McKenna has that horse and he also has revelation who's a pretty good turf and synthetic sprinter. Tip top gal quit Miller's horse was kind of the one I liked the most. This horse just seems to relish Golden Gate fields and the all weather 9 for 13 in the exact. It just tends to be forward the place kind of a grinder type. I don't know if the most dependable on the win end, but she just seems to always be right there and with the big field should be at least a decent price. Baltus Baltus has a couple in here. He's got hot he claimed last time, but the other one he's got. I think is probably going to get the most attention, right? Where'd the horse go? Oh, I was thinking a nardini. That's not the vault. Sorry. That's Andy Mathis. Who comes up from del mar, this horse is run at Golden Gate before and as fared very well over the all weather surface and I think a logical logical wind type here, the southern cow horses, they tend to often do pretty well when they come up here. Grants Pass is represented by a square Peggy. Got to give a shout out to the boss. Travis bores, but we had on the show last year, or in the spring, at least. This horse at grant's pass was didn't really fire very much in the stakes races where up there. And then.

"Guests. To start. Today's show is Joseph Makowski, who's written a story called Stethoscope in the Carolina Quarterly and Let's talk about how the first of a child they're expecting the child coming and the meaning and the purpose of Stethoscope? No, come back. I want corrections. First. I just saw you and see Trout's Miami yesterday. I didn't see that score. Right state finally beat Duke. Or at least they want a gang. So I really can't talk too much about bad football. Four states here. All right. And Florida got the other Florida school got upset. Oh, that's fantastic. Yes. Oh, It's interesting how you tied in the, uh, expectancy and of a child. And, uh, it describing how you read the form and get ready for a day at the races of going out to watch the workouts and and how you tied it all in. Yeah, I guess when you like when start to have a kid or Well, you know, kids coming for sure. Everything their life gets very focused and there's no there's no more time for messing around and I think That's been a big benefit to me right now. Where? With having my time so constrained you start to become more efficient. You start you start not wasting time. Looking at stuff that you know isn't really gonna matter or Messing around too much in my writing has done that every every time I should done right. It's become more important. And the captain when I do get that when I do you know, the wife let you out to handicap. You know, that's probably gonna get to see that you know the form for another month or two. So you really concentrate on it? It's made my handicapping better. It's you know, it's made my riding better. Made a lot of aspects my life better butting having a kid probably probably made me better. What is interesting is you've seen the movies on Secretariat and Seabiscuit and how they author tied. Telling you about our country at the time of the Depression, when people are rooting for Seabiscuit, the underdog against war animal and so you're able to relate. Human feeling human experiences with your love of handicapping races and going to the races. Yeah. I mean, the whole idea that anything, you talk about it, and then you get this a lot with people say, Oh, I've got a great idea for a story and it's like, yeah, you have yet You have the idea for like, what? The main, you know, like you. I'm gonna tell horse racing story, but unless you figure out what the connection is to the to the human condition It's not. There's nothing really to talk about, Um, like Kurt Vonnegut worked at the D I a racing for I think it was to do that racing form. Curveball gets a very famous writer, and, you know they had him write a story about this horse who had jumped over the fence in the middle of the race, and I think he had worked at the deli waiting for like a week at this point. And being someone who's, you know, fantastic writer. You mean he's written? You know so many World Classic books, and he just didn't have any connection. So he just wrote one sentence. You know, the horse jumped over the effing fence. Period and walked out of the building. So unless you can take something from the horse racing and turn it into something, or whatever your topic is, and somehow find its connection to some type of part of the human condition, and even that's not the immigration just a condition in your life that makes it meaningful. That's what you gotta do. And there were chatting with Joseph Kowski. Oh, uh, recent world a story which involves very scene, uh on did work. Golden Gate Fields, uh, called stethoscope, and it's in the Carolina Quarterly and, uh, people who like racing and Have experienced a child bringing child into the world. It's a very interesting story of the ties it all in. And how do you get the article of someone want to read your story in the Carolina accordingly? So you can get it. You can order it online through their website s O right now. It's it's only print, but they have a digital issue. You can download the data collected. PDF version of it. You can order it and I'll send it to you in the mail a copy and isn't much of a great you know, stories and essays and torturing the journal. Um, and then, like university libraries will start carrying it Profit. You go to your local bookstore asked him. Hey, get the Carolina Quarterly cover here. You know, it's you know, it's a nationally distributed magazine, so you definitely got a lot of places. Opportunities to pick it up and read the story. And so you recently participated in the handicapping tournament. Uh, that was put on by, uh, the people at the satellite facility you went to in West Virginia. No. So the OTB them Virginia allow you to bet on real racing. Because the North Carolina you can't have, um, a new account. You know, you can't You can't. You can't play the horses. But in North Carolina, you can play like forced tournaments. So like I play horse turns or horse players, and the big difference is that for the tournaments You're playing against a bunch people that really know how to handicap and you've got to be perfect. There's you know so many people in tournament and the top two or three get, you know a speed Toby CBC, or they get to go toe and a C Or that you know it's a $25,000 guarantee. But you got to be the best and there's no There's no breaking even or getting a little bit of money back. You gotta you gotta be the best on that day, and there's handicappers that air You know, just hitting, you know, 68 races and they're hitting 6 to 1 12 the ones and 21 you You know, it's almost incredible The amount of town that somebody's handicappers have On the on the horse tournaments. It was interesting in your story. As you point out, you read the form trying to see where there's an overlay because everybody knows who the favorite should be in a race and you're looking for the horse like if you were to bet a horse And get to the one you'd have to win every third bed to break. Even. So, you're looking for that one. I'll give you the edge in the profit. And that you best you mentioned you go through the form looking for opportunities. Yeah. And you gotta play like since I played terminus. Now it's very different than how I played when you You know you could you know, flight, pick fours and have multiple horses to get one shot per race has to win. You get the money winner place. So I had a cat now, pretty much. I mean, you can't play the ferrets in the tournament because someone's gonna have a bomb or someone's gonna have a 15 to 1. And even if you hit to the ones in 3210 hit six, you know Four or five of those to make up for 15 to 1 or 70. No. One horse and someone's gonna have that throughout the day. So you can't you really gotta find the prices. Take your shots. You want to be between 5 to 1 to tend to one like anything outside of our underneath that, Unless you know it's a guarantee which nothing is. There are some horses that you know, are gonna win. But, yes, fun in prices. It's fine. And you know what? What is that? What else Not see here, Um, and it's it's a completely different way of playing than then at the track. So you gotten some reviews comments about your article of your story? I mean, ah, only from and camper so I've sent it to you, And obviously your parents are always the ones going to read it. Yeah, it was positive. A lot of, uh, one of my good friends appear Anthony. He's a big horse player, and he read it is a big handicapper, and he said he really dug it. Um, that was cool. Um, And he said that after a couple of Hank and I had, you know, I think Moss has read it going Get fields. He liked it. I'm still waiting for some more copies. Gonna listen. You copy and Patrick Mackey copy and Frank a copy, so we'll find out they like it too. That's great. Mariah. Why? I told I told Patrick Pardon. I said, That's great man. Ramadi, the Bob of life, right? I told Patrick I was having you on. So you said to sing alone, So we've enjoyed chatting with you catching up to date for people who had the opportunity to meet you and your time here at Golden Gate Fields and, uh well Put you on again with another story that you might come up with. So I have a good have a good Sunday and and hopefully your Tampa Bay team will beat the Vikings and Mr Brady. Ally. Look. Big day. Yeah, I appreciate you having me on Sam. All right. Uh, we're great Sunday. Merry Christmas and happy New Year, Joseph Brickowski and we'll take a break, and then we'll come back and the professor will join us in Las Vegas with his picks in the races and a few pics. "Mass protest ska Check out speed figures dot com for a complete analysis of the races from Golden Gate Fields. Good morning, Matt. Good morning, Sam. Well, we gotta go. We had a lot of race to cover so much will quickly get into it on our final 15 minutes. Let's start with the first race. Ex? Yeah, the first race. We have a sprint for maiden claiming 8000. The morning line here is going to be picking your Monte number four. He shortens up from some six furlong sprint at the same level, and I think he's the morning my choice and he's close. He's got some races that put him close here, but I we put him third on our sheet and I think he just had his chances. And I'm looking for some new faces. We went with the outside horse as our top call hot box number eight shipping in from Southern California, and he's seeing this level for the first time. Trainer, Stevie Adi has been really good shipping horses up here from Southern California. He really makes good called as to what level the horses need and what they need to win at. So he's been 27% clicking with that that move, which is a very high wind percentage. And then also his dropping down the classes. He's also 27%. So I think he found a good spot for the number eight on the outside here, Hot Fox. He should be able to have enough speed to stock. The Kenya Monta And then push on by. I think the kind of improving Bill Town Banner number five, has been racing to Kenya Monta several times now and got by him last time into second. And I think that could happen again. Here, so we're 854. And the other thing about Bill Town banners going for five seconds in a row, so I think that's probably a good spot for him. He can run a good race, but we're going to go hot Stock Hill Town Banner. Kenya Monty for the top three here. Okay, Second half of the devil. Oh, yeah. Novella on top. Yeah, novella coming out of a really strong wind for 20,000 on August 21st, And in that race, she drew off in one by two lengths Clear and splashing the number one horse was making a big move in that race. Looks like almost a winning moving got completely shut off. Kyle Fray doesn't happen often. He's such a good writer. Lee won four races yesterday, but he did. He's just bad racing like he put her in the inside, and nothing ever opened up for her down the lane, and she just got bounced around. And wound up finishing fourth. In that race. It really looked like she was going to run on for something better, and I think those two coming out of that strong race on August 21st are going to be the top two calls here in the keys.

"All right, Let's come motor Golden Gate Fields for a couple. A run nine races today. First posted 1 45 2 o'clock for Del Mar. Well after 10 o'clock for Saratoga and Golden Gate weary five to favor when ducks fly. This is a short 1 5.5 furlongs, its eighth race on today's card. Yeah. When ducks fly. It looks like a good favorite. I, um, I think he's got the best speed in here. Um, there's a horse writers inside the tours who might get out there and challenging, but I think he's got enough speed to get out in front and Phoebe. If he does get loose at all. Then I think he's gonna be really tough to catch the to the other horses that caught my eye and, um, number one Circus act. For a motor junior. Uh, third start off. A layoff, you know is improving. So you know, if you project a little bit of improvement, I think that one could be right right there. And I'm also quite interested in Albany front. The six horse for Jamie Thomas. Frank Alvarado writing, um, this horse. Focus maiden here Gold GEHT, um, back in June, going six furlongs. Then they went out to pleasant and tried that dirt for the first time and He didn't really seem to like it. He also got a pretty wide trip. So, um I think back to Golden Gate is kind of the key with him on DH there, adding blenders today, which I was, I'm not sure if that means now he's going to the front as well. And he'll be out there doing with Windex fly, or maybe be able to settle a little bit. Which he did in his last days. He wasn't 100 elite it all. So I think the return to Golden Gate for him is maybe the ticket to success. And then the ninth and final today, the favorite pain She's so pretty at 3 to 1, and this would be one mile on the tippy tah. Yeah, I'm Kyle phrase writing so well up there Right now. I can see why anything he gets on is going to get a lot of attention. I think that horse you know, stepping up in class off a couple straight victories of maiden win and feet softer $4000 to lifetime, but It is in good form right now. The never, jer. You know, compare well or if you especially we project just a little bit of improvement there. Um, I'm interested in the two inside sources, your number one's arouse and go for Jeff Bondi. This worse that also just beat. Dollars to 4000 steps up in class, but also didn't really nicely that you know, it was a short field at the affair, but That got way went to the front and never look back. So I think just the sharpness. They're intrigued to being in the 92 price that is a little bit more attractive. I also thought it was into two horses. A little interesting, um, with the apprentice getting on they they AHA! Writing apprentice. Rivera jumps off, but, um Espinosa takes over. So you're still getting a good weight break there. This horse is grunts and pretty good races for this jockey as well before before Rivera climbed on, So I give that horse a shot and it also with the class drop, I think. Well, well. Help help to that new 7 to 2, so not a great price, but I'll take it. Okay. How's your column going every Friday. Yep. Every Friday would be looking at whether or not you'll be able to get the Kentucky Derby in Nevada. This year. There's been a long running contract dispute with Churchill Downs and the Nevada Para mutual Association that at this point is still ongoing, so Horseplayers in what used to be the mecca for all for that activity may not even be able to bet on the Derby tissue. That's unfortunate. And then I saw a picture in the beautiful new Football Stadium for the Raiders, however, you know, look as empty is picture Look, since there won't be fenced in thegame We have a lovely, lovely stadium there to admire as we drive by on the freeway, but nobody's gonna be looking at it from inside for this season. So it's going to be interesting that you know there aren't there will be other activities going on there as things warm up, I guess, but I'm.

"Bobby? A halt of the New York hot list is our first guest of two thousand twenty here on the gate now. The horse that won the Breeders Cup dirt bile beating Omaha beach is spun to run and he will be facing Omaha beach again in the Pegasus World Cup. The first major race of two thousand thousand twenty but maximum security will not be there and code of honor will not be there. Maximum security is waiting for Saudi Arabia. The world's richest race the Saudi Cup in February. It's very tempting to make this a political discussion. I'll only do it to the extent of saying with what's going on in the Middle East right now. How do you think that is going to impact whether trainers bring their horses over for the Saudi Cup and or the Dubai World Cup in March or maybe they take a look at that Pegasus again and say maybe we ought to just stay here that that's a very hard question to answer? Ah It's hard to understand how people feel I will say this. I am confident in saying that the people especially in Dubai. We're ruler of the country behind that I think they're going to bend over backwards to provide security and take care of the park I I would hope the same thing's going to happen in Saudi Arabia race and then just not become a outer tech or anyone but that is a question question that you just can't answer. I think it's very hard. It's an individual decision to a Lotta funny. I understand when people go play a lot of people who have no dog in the adviser to come up with answers of morally questions. And what they're gonNA do when not to you. Gary West was all set to run his voice Independence when it was nine nine billion dollar I. He was happy to take the fourbillion winter. Share the person. Just go to the Middle East but when you cut the first out of nowhere to three billion winter I'll get one point five billion something like that and you have just wants to you know once in a lifetime could easily win ten million dollars and probably turn around that month and win a twelve million dollar right I. It's hard because this is an expensive sport and as much as these people arrested of of money that goes into this so You understand it as of now. I haven't heard anyone saying they're going to change their mind about going. I'm sure people are a little bit nervous but I mean let's be frank. I think anytime you over. There is probably reason to be nervous. So it's just an individual decision and I wouldn't chastize anyone. Whatever they they decide because it feels like them? That's their call. It's not it. I make my own decision on my life. You make your own decision on your own life and I think that's the way it goes. Oh by the way. I think you're under selling the Saudi Cup. I believe the purses twenty million dollars. Well it's ten million the whip you get ten billion but it's it's one that that that's what I'm saying he gary West is looking at it. I will get sent. Don't get out of the home and billion dollars if I say in that term so you can when you look at it now. You basically have to win the Pakistan that in line with at one point I for share of the first compares to the ten million that he will win. Take home for winning the Saudi Cup where he will be the favorite and a one term mounting great definitely. I Dunno betting Saudi Arabia. But I know American pools. He's GonNa behavior and you running for stabbing tons of money. That's a pretty compelling nonetheless in the Pegasus World Cup you do have. Some horses is with some credentials including higher power. The Pacific Classic winner. We mentioned Omaha Beach. roadster for Bob Baffert is aiming toward the Pegasus. And you will be there. How do you see this first? Major race of the year shaping up that force right now in training maximum very doubt after that case to be made then Omaha Aubenas bunch of wrong especially violent eight might be the second and third bout with McKinsey right there with them so when you get fun to run and Omaha Beach I think he got a pretty darn good race. I mean it's interesting possibilities. Are the horses doing nominated at the box He's done. I'm very well. This is of course. A lot of people east might have remembered with Chad Brown Barrasso. And you know he was good you know. He got coming up. In the minor spot that West to John Adler Verona's ray thing all of a sudden. He's winning all these steaks and eat it. You can't east to Churchill even lost or any blocks. We'll see if he's going to be the ones that they decided to send into the race. It'd be a good one back wizar- people know this story. That fifteen thousand dollars who ran against maximum security and the world's most famous Amos. Sixteen Thousand Dollars Eight lamer and it'll be in there. I think it'll be a big competitive fourth. It doesn't I think have the superstar. One runner arrogate powerpoint chrome Omaha beaches in that category But it's interesting. It's good to get back into talking about racing and Bobby Hall. Nobody better to do it with so. Thank you so much barry. Thank you always chat that with you so when we come back here on the gate. The site of the world's first million dollar horse race is short on dollars and short on time time to secure them. Welcome back to win the gate in July of two two thousand. Nearly twenty years ago Churchill. Downs home of the Kentucky Derby purchased Arlington Park in Chicago for nearly seventy one million dollars. Arlington's owner Dick Duchossois had closed the track in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight and nine hundred ninety nine saying that he could not compete with other gambling businesses. The opened again in May may of two thousand presumably with the knowledge that a sale was coming at the time. Churchill was in something of an arms race against the stronach group. When it came to buying up tracts the idea was to create networks of tracks for simulcasting and cross promotion of races and Events in nineteen ninety nine Churchill bought calder race course in Miami and Hollywood Park in California and then bought fairgrounds in New Orleans in two thousand and four? This was meant to counter the STRANA group which began its buying spree in nineteen ninety eight with Santa Anita then they added Gulfstream Park in Florida. Both major Maryland tracks Laurel and PIMLICO as well as golden gate fields and Portland Meadows and Oregon stronach versus Churchill. Wasn't exactly the Cold War. But the battle lines had been drawn it it seemed that Churchill was the first to blink Churchill dumped Hollywood park like a hot potato in two thousand five just six years after buying it. Churchill said at the time that California has forsaken racing and its needs reports came from fairgrounds in two thousand thirteen that the turf course was too dangerous juris to race and that the track had been poorly maintained ever since the churchill purchase at the same time Churchill was trying any maneuvering possible to get out of its obligation obligation to operate racing at calder. Eventually the STRANA coned Gulfstream Park worked out a lease agreement to run the calder meet in October and November this year. Two Thousand Twenty is the final year of Churchill's obligation to lease the meat after which it may convert the track into a shipping logistics center. Or something like that.
