"About the company Do they have the ability to pass on price increases And some companies do and some companies don't So you really have to differentiate by the individual company So I talk to me about the pillars of support into next year for this equity market If you constructive next year what are the things that you see right now that can persist into a new year Well what we see is still strong economic growth Obviously economic growth is fading from the incredible rate at which we were growing in this calendar year But we're still looking for close to 4% GDP growth in the U.S. and over 4% GDP growth globally for 22 So you've got that as an economic backdrop We don't think the fed moves rates until 23 The taper argument is out there kind of well understood by the market And as you were just discussing it looks like we're still going to get some stimulus even though it is a measured pace This is really important You have 4% U.S. vision for how long That's for 2022 like you said earlier the visibility is market your time So there's a wider range around that Okay but how do you get to that optimism We got most people way under you on that What's the Bernstein call that gives you that enthusiasm Well Ira Hey how are you with the question If you can can you restart the response to them because we just cut you off at the very beginning Do you mind Oh yeah no problem I would say that the Bernstein bottom of you to get to that economic perspective is still that there is tremendous support in the overall output What we're seeing is why you see manufacturing plateauing a bit you still got services rebounding Look at the supply and demand issue The real issue has really been in goods services are coming back You just said it earlier Consumers are coming back Families are traveling again We do have to be careful in the lower end of the consumer especially but what we see broadly is still support for that strong economic growth One aspect of debate on this show repeatedly over the past few months has been what the investment thesis is around what's going on in Washington D.C. We've seen mostly dysfunction but they are working to get something done How do you price in the idea of more fiscal stimulus but also the idea of higher corporate taxes Yeah we think the market is really acknowledging that the corporate tax rate is going to move up a couple of percentage points So you're looking at a mid single digit hit to earnings growth So there is some vulnerability in that current consensus number The market's been in a wait and see mode to see what actually happens But if you look over the last 6 months nothing close to what was originally proposed is going to happen So while there is some downside pressure from the corporate tax rate likely to come up it's far less threatening than it was at the outset And then like you said Lisa there's the offset of more stimulus actually coming in to support the consumer So I think the markets sanguine Again it comes back to companies pricing power that supply demand pictures can be much more important for earnings outcomes and ultimately market outcomes We've been talking about some of the pessimism out there and that markets have rallied despite all of that gloomy talk What is the biggest concern among clients who you speak to who have to figure out how to reposition Well it's not just the biggest concern amongst clients but it's something that we're watching most closely as a potential risk for the market And it's what we've already brought up several times Is inflation transitory And our House view is that it is going to moderate from the extraordinary price increases that we've seen over the summer but that the likelihood of it being higher than it was pre-pandemic is going up So we're not talking about a 1970s type environment but we are talking about an environment that's in the two to 3% range in all likelihood compared to the much lower numbers that we saw pre-pandemic We have to thank you and our apologies for that very small brief technical disruption Bianca there have Bernstein private wealth management on the path forward On the fed speak today bostick kashkari Evans bellard quails take your picks on Everybody's speaking this week into chairman Powell This Friday The first paragraph these are my views and not the views of the fed as well And I have mixed feelings here John I think it's important for public officials to get out and speak You know it rotary clubs and frankly big events and all that But at the same time I'm not sure what you know do we overanalyze it I really don't know I do wonder Tom I do wonder Do you like things that is Not as much as they do here in the United States The regional fed presidents later increasingly very very busy talking Yeah but when Tom asks do we overanalyze People are kind of viewing it as noise How much analytics are there really at this point from some of those speeches What are they actually going to say Increasingly I hear from investors basically ignore everyone except for the big three at the top And that I think is changed a little bit due to some of the political pressures but John that's my sense Well that's the issue at the top next year That's a good question We can talk about big three at the top for the next several months I mean next year that's an open debate isn't it Yeah it's an open debate but with the data I mean if you get the Bernstein 4% GDP John the vast majority of the people we're talking to aren't modeling that in The direction of travel matters on inflation here If we get inflation trending lower and we get 4% GDP time That's a hot ink economy Fertile for risk assets You say not many people are priced in that intern That's consensus for next year When you look at the economic outlook ecfc go on a Bloomberg four handles consensus Most people It's more back end next year You got to take some Bloomberg terminals Yeah of course Okay I love you I know you know Brand new subscribers Okay we'll talk about this in a break It's okay It's okay I think the world of you You know John I'm rattled I took my magnesium and I just learned I need 420 milligrams a day because it's for older people Is that right An abuse of alcohol Is that why they gave it to me yesterday Do you want me to say something back to this I'll bring some cash Lots of cashews Take care It's time to go Tom king I'm working today This is golden Burke.
