"Last year's jockey club winner is in the lineup. that is happy saver back to defend his crown. The suburban winner of twenty max player third and last year's travers in belmont. He's here a speedy horse down on. The inside is forced to dro a very strong supporting cast. Let's see who mike and david like on. Top in the junky club gold cup. I don't know how interesting this jockey club. Gold cup is from wagering perspective. It doesn't feel like there. Are that many different ways to go ashore field. I'm gonna take down on the rallies the morning line favorite. I guess at the end of the day you could say. He has much more to prove than either of the other two short prices in here match. Play or super saver Certainly that's probably the case but this source just looks like he's shown this kind of potential basically right from the start always felt like he was headed towards races like this. He just had trouble staying on the track. He came back to lay off last time with a really impressive win over what turned out to be very solid allowance field and other triple digit buyer for him. It feels like he could be forward in this race where there's not that much for him to have to deal with. I'm just gonna take him in. Yeah i'm not gonna sit here. Suggest some kind of great belt if he does go favored. But i don't love the recent form of super sabre since he's come back from the layoff I didn't really want matchplay to regain this time. I've been chasing the doors for a while. He finally paid off at a good price when he won the suburban. I'll try to beat those two horses this time with four zero. Well i wouldn't say that necessarily against the short prices in his jockey club gold cup. None of the three who figure take the most money are runners that i would really want to bet in this race. I mean the number one force. The euro has upside and appeal on this handicap division. As he's moving up second off the layoff. But he's the kind of horse that. I would want to take in this race out of price and i feel like he could be favored and i'm just not sure that i would want him at around. Eight to five or seventy five in this race. Given that he does have to answer some substantial class questions. So i want to look beyond the three favorites and go with the number. Five night ops. Let's take a look at this horses last race when he was second in the restricted alydar stakes behind art. Collector has come back with a vengeance this year. For trainer bill martin. I thought that night ops put in a really game effort here. This friday card at saratoga was one where speed seemed to be doing..

"You have to talk about with his team. Is matt turner. What a tournament. What fido and it was actually funny. We were in the stadium and they're handing out the the player of the tournament and give up was then gotta go over and take a sad face picture with matt turner. Who had the of the tournament award there so Should turner actually been the best player in this in this gold cup. He was the best player. In the sculpt up. All right know many are saying miles robinson you know hell of a tournament. You're not in the position to fight for this spinal without matt. Turner matt turner in every single game based double digit shots. Every single game maturana was massive. It was one of the best goalkeeping performances. I have ever seen this tournament. Turner against qatar. It matters on on the field. You're not playing this final guitars plane. This final matt. Turner was immense mentioned. It was by far the most decisive and the best performer for the us. Men's national team. He was the best player in this tournament and we talked earlier in the tournament about the fast starts to the us. I think a lot of that was down to matt turner because he made a lot of early great saves and games when the us was shaky defensively in the first fifteen minutes or half hour. And i think that was really big for the us throughout the tournament. So the us side of things. Everything's looking great south of the border. Her things are. How do i say this quite a story. Yes absolutely things in. Mexico has to a look at the headlines not very happy mexico losing a gold cup final to.

"She's healthy for the first time in a long time But you know this less of a concern than the rest of our team Genitive scores a great goal. Great individual goal She intercepts the ball. Most of our goals appeared turnovers in the midfield seemed to be very very integral to goals editor for the spirit. Turns off turns it over in the midfield runs forty five yards by herself round the keeper With two vendors still there makes a cutback puts the ball between them scores. She looked very tired. Afterwards i would too because you just because she just ran past the entire chicago team Unfortunately not enough once again The spirit concede in the corner to the to the red stars just like segr- in just like last time et cetera. A red card for sim saab Are yeah nana red card. I'm sorry she got up. a cop. penalty was called down Which va va because there is no vr vr. Replays replays very uncharitably. Looking at that call Wouldn't have mattered in the end From the the total calculus of the score there but the spirit just weren't weren't there for the second half was a lot better Yokoyama started the game. I think their first start the entire season. It's not it's not been a great season for called off at halftime. Just was not a presence up top. Just a big departure. I remember in the challenge cup. Last year gumi was was one of the best players for the spirit very very creative. The ball was running through Running through them and now. it's an nanao complicate. So overall it was it was a rough game. This happen certainly in an august is insane. I think maybe five games in august. I think is something. Maybe that's right but was the great thing is that didn't really hurt them. Very much standings. I think we may have moved down one spot. The one through seven is so dense that i think that it's just they're all moving together. It's like a giant block. That doesn't really you. Don't move around too much inside of it for four games in august by the way so they have four-game i guess that starting yesterday so five games so for more games ago and The olympian should be returned home. We can talk about that and there. We'll let switch the runaround so we get to them. We get second but They'll be returning home Pretty soon anna. Alfred as playing right back. She was man-of-the-match Woman of the match. They gotta figure out a big gender of the of the match so at least i don't trip over it personal the match. She's been doing really really well. And kelly hairs absence. And i don't believe she'll keep her spot maybe ritchie. Maybe richie does let keeper spot. I don't know how i don't know how he does. The the international returning but the cool thing is she will be on the show this week so if you have any questions for anna alfred mainly You know what's house. You love olympics don't you. You've got five starts in a row that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise you're big vanity olympics..

"Do that I'm sure look. There's a bronze-medal to be played for dots in their minds But yeah there's a a. There's an i feel as if the toughest job vlatko and an oscar right now is to mr find a way to slowly but surely move on from a lot of the players that are here not all of them not all at once but to start a process of renewal. And that's really tricky. Considering that they're they're not just players as we've seen Culturally and socially their icons. And i wouldn't like to be in his shoes right now. Yeah and that was something that i was thinking about because i remember before the tournament started. You know falsely now looking at it. I i kind of was putting the message out. There of american soccer fans should really try to take this experience in because this team is getting up there in age we went through the ages of of all the key players on this team. And there's a lot in thirties. And some you know getting into mid and late thirties so we didn't know how many more opportunities there would be to wash destroyed play together and it felt like this could have been maybe kind of like last call you know to be able to really enjoy them at their prime and what we're maybe seeing now is. I don't know if that's the sole reason but maybe last call happened already. You know maybe maybe maybe what happened at the at the women's world cup. That could have been it. You know we we talk about macario. We talk about lynn williams. There's there's players that want to get in. That wants to be regular starters in that are top quality players. Oh so how do you bring on shuffle gently out the door. The the other quality players and and give and give the new or younger crop a chance An and that's like was job and it's it's it. It really is tough from from a number of angles. yeah so as you know in the coming days we'll do another podcast. I'm guessing later in the week. And so maybe we'll maybe in the time sense. You know who knows what sort of unpacking on with what played out there. So we'll get into that more. But this was really supposed to be more of a A celebratory podcast. After last night's gold cup final. The us jj champions of the gold cup and and pretty stunning fashion. This was fun my friend. I'm you you got anything else here. I'm about to get back to my anniversary weekend. I don't wanna keep you any any any longer. But i you know i feel. It's my job being the guy that i am to you. Know maybe soured anniversary somewhat with some. Harry can talk so. Let me do things quickly on. I'm sure we'll get. We will get into these over over the coming days. Because the sagas i really canaan greenish. So i'm going to give you a saga update from what we've learned over the weekend Aston villa reportedly turned down one hundred million pounds sterling offer for jack religion off for for manchester city that would have made him The most expensive british signing of of all time so so that that's something And as for the reports this morning across a couple of more than a couple of outlets saying that hurricane is refused are has not turned up for training this morning as he supposed. That is not the case Football three six five qualified. That by saying no no no no no. No hurricane was not sheduled to start. Preseason training with tottenham until tuesday. He has not turned up for cova testing and other related checks. It is an important distinction to make at a time when information and context is otherwise lacking if. Ken is not a training tomorrow when he is planned to be. Then gopher or until then.

"Have come into the goal company. Surprise many would fos pace attacking football and a willingness to always push the pace actually lead the gold cup. We've ten goals and have the second highest expected gold rape behind mexico now. I don't really put too much value into that. Always bring up the stats. Because i know you guys do Us post only six best expected goals. But they've only conceded one goal this entire tournament. So i i do think that there will be the ones that will be more difficult to break down but inevitably i do see both teams scored. I think hala just just push up too high up the pitch but then also allow you to get opportunities if you look at their last game against el salvador. They were three with fifty five minutes but then allowed el salvador back into the game. And i see something similar. I say qatar. Just just pushing up and pushing up an allowing usa opportunities to score on the break. But at the same time. I see i see being difficult for the us to keep a clean sheet getting this touch of plus money which is what i'm seeing around about. Twenty one to twenty or he offers some this decent value here on the play. We've certainly got the statistical data here. We've d two teams. And the stars the play of kwanzaa to tighten that. Play here in this one. So i'm gonna go for both teams to score in this game as for the other game here mexico against canada for me. This is a little bit more straightforward. I think mexico moore scored there than anyone else here in his so whereas you see usa rotating and you are more concerned with mexico. I'm not as concerned by. I still liked him on the money. Line four to seven elevens four on the and his five to one on canada. Another way you could bet this game as to take mexico's team total of over one point five which is ten eleven in mexico to win. Was the team. Total is only six to five. So i think i will just take the teams to team title just in case canada. Do manage to sneak two goals here in this game outside. It makes his first match gets treated on tobago which they were shut out. They have been brilliant only lead expensive goals number but able to scored seven goals so far Funes mori has managed to score three goals. So far in this competition. I what say counted as defense has been poor but it hasn't been great and kind as much tighty. They were sold for four minutes but haiti were were applying constant pressure during that time but to start a game against you say they can see the these go in go cup history so i think that is a little bit of a concern here and i do think mexico will be able to penetrate these defense twice but for what you're getting in terms of getting mexico to score over one point five teen goes here at modest one's hand and influence six to five just attack on the money line i just want above i would just take mexico over one point. Five teams here at modest montaigne in this on so that could the gold cup. So we'll move on from that and we'll move over to the olympics and we are going to look at the women's fixtures here Don't usually cover women's soccer here on the soccer gambling pocos but this is important. Competition is the olympics. It's at the late stages so we are going to take a look at the first game that kick things off in the morning while the morning four for me ridiculous early morning for you guys. I think four am eastern time. He's canada versus brazil. Where canada available here at three two one. It's eleven five on the jaw and it's even money on the brazilian women..

We are recording this pretty much. Almost immediately after the final whistle has blown. So we don't know yet who the. Us will be facing obviously by the time. You're listening to this. You know so. We can be hard for us in the midst of this. Podcast really preview. A final this'll be more of a recap of what we just witnessed in the semifinal and that is jace artists playing the role of hero coming off the bench scoring the winner for the us late on a couple of games now running the late show. For the united states. Some similarities. I think from the quarterfinal two semifinal. Not a great start better in the second half and getting a late winner. I think this podcast was very prescient on sunday night without naming a single qatari player because none of them sprang to mind on on late on sunday night but but they play more football they are much more coordinated in their attacked and then jamaica are Less physical too but a better site more stout opposition on the. Us did not start the game. While game of two halves bought things right in the second half substitutions were made at the right time. There was a good energy and Detroit was turned with the help. Of the stutter. Step penalty and I'm like i said some good substitutions from trilogy. So how do you want to do this. We can we can. Let's let's let's the first half through the bad okay and there was lots of it. There's no point there's no point glossing over this my friend. We're going to be honest about the bad and then we're going to talk about the good and the things that changed again and And then we'll talk about other things all right so starting with the bad Initially there's two players kind of stand out for me. I feel bad doing that. I don't wanna just like all you know poor performances onto guys but the first one being like we talked about darryl d decay on the last podcast and i made it clear that i'm not willing to cast just like abroad. Thought on him over the course of just a couple of games for whatever reason whether it's the system whether it's the patch of form that he's in whether or not it's his shoulder injury whether or not. It's a combination of a lot of things. He is not right now. An effective player for them pretty much zero impact. When he was out there he was given an opportunity shack. More burns his defender got into position. Played in a really nice ball to decay. His first touch was poor. Let him down Wasted opportunity and there wasn't a whole lot else from him and again my my thoughts and my hopes for him as a player are still very high. I don't know that. I've really changed my opinion of him all that much over the course this tournament obviously a much better performance and i would think more highly of instead i feel like my my perception of him has kind of plateauing right now But it's kind of at a point where his performances are what they are. Josse is coming in and making an impact scoring winner tonight. I don't know if in the final you can really justify starting decay again overs artis regardless of who the us replying. I would I would agree very much with that analysis. Andrew i think gam think missing the chance really really are i mean. He didn't even miss it. He took a heavy torture and the goalkeeper slid and took the ball away from him. But it stuck in his head because the next ball of comes into his feet in the middle of the park he tries to control it out over the sideline and even at the start of the second. You boots once. I think it was running the fiftieth minute. Kicks out over the sideline If he's not fixed on playing now it's hard to criticize greg bear halt or when he played him for as long as he did in our soul and then brings in jesse's artists who scored the winner. It's very hard to be critical but deka doesn't look right and if he's not right you know why would you start him now. I didn't think he'd start this game. I was surprised to see him. He must be fit enough if he starting a semifinal to play regardless of how you know stewart holden was talking about holding that left shoulder i understand that but you know there were other options to start you know. There was no reason that greg bear holter hot to start them. Yeah he just he just looks. Heavy footed It was difficult to andrew like. Because i early on you could see this was going to be a five three two from qatar and space was going to be at a premium. And it's difficult for dr leaky. Because i thought that was an interesting idea. Early on where right into opening couple of minutes a long ball was played over the top and he made a run and he he was trying to stretch shooting. He didn't get to it. And i thought all right okay. Well if we can't go through them and we can't find passing ins and we can't find guys in the gaps on hoppy. I felt was to fire why he wasn't able to link up with anybody. Either in the first half. I thought all right okay go direct and they never really did that and it is difficult without that kind of low block to do to do that with dr leakey. But honestly i think. Now if greg berhalter's idea was hey keep playing him. He'll play his way into form. I would throw that idea out the window now. I wouldn't play. Him are stardom in the final. I don't think it makes sense anymore. Just on another thing. Another thing is well. It's it's interesting to me with this team. What said even plays a little bit to the ace squad The us is often a second half team or maybe not so much with the while but what certain lean in certain games and definitely with this team when plays broken up when the opposition have been suitably softened in a way This team in broken play and when the opposition is tired like a lot of teams is a much better site in the first half. You'd have center box on the ball. And they they play a pasta was. It almost felt like fifty minutes of this. Only interrupted by the occasional qatari. Break where the center box have. The ball depleted legit legit to a cost to give to boost your busey. Would look there's nothing on. And the bala go back inside and it was recycled And we just didn't have.

"And i'm just like re listening to some of their older episodes and i wonder if you saw this i was on the street. Walking up the block in manhattan to work the other day and sometimes if you're listening to something that's funny you'll like and you're in public you try to sort of like stifle your laugh now. I laugh out loud. i don't kill. I reached a point. Conan o'brien was on as their guests. And he's to me he's one of the most like naturally funny like one of these guys who just can't help but be funny and i was listening to that. I was walking up the street. People all around me and i gave up. I gave up. And i thought you know what like maybe all brighton. Someone's day if they just look over and see a person just laughing wildly. Maybe that'll make someone happy. And so i just gave up. And i was like howling wiping tears off my face like a lunatic as people of like on the street going to work around me you because i know you're laugh. I know when you bellyache and when you really laugh hearts. I mean dot is disturbing sight for anyone who does know what's going on. It was that level. It was i was. I thought someone who's gonna tap me on the shoulder and be like. I need to know what you're listening to. No one cared. You know how to new york city is no one cared. You look at his crazy person. Whatever if you if you took a heart attack in the street you'd be lucky to get someone to look after you. Yes seriously but it was. Mad is really funny. I i recommend it. Let's see a little bit of gold cup. Jj us haiti. The other night on sunday just From like saturday of copa america final through the sunday afternoon euro final through the sunday night gold cup starting just slightly less. Why what was that last so sorry. It's it's like. Yeah yeah what you know. The corp. America final european champions vinyl and then the us versus haiti gold cup. I it's a drop off andrew. Let's be honest not to me I was pacing my living room the same way i was during the penalty shootout in england. Italy it in all seriousness. This game was I kind of forgot it as soon as it ended. It was kind of one of those games. I will say this. Though haiti the us one one nil. Obviously everybody knows that by now. We don't need to go deep on it. Haiti was was pretty good Maybe if like you know who we seen obviously we saw every week with columbus crew. There were some chances that fell to him that you would maybe expect him to finish and it could have really made that for an even more interesting game so the us were. They were not at their best. Which i think we expected somewhat given this given the roster but it wasn't it was not Instilling much confidence. But it's early. I mean. Haiti had a really good run at the last gold cup in two thousand nineteen so they obviously a developing country. They're getting better. I'm jeff carlisle. Put it best expectations for the united states. Men's national team are high in the gold cup regardless of who actually suits up not only is the. Us expected to win every game. In the tournament's group stage by clear margins as well failed to reach such a level and the tendency to look at the players scans begins. And i didn't see any of it i have read about it Because i'm here in ireland. Obviously and it was interesting to read some of the comments. So i i put out to our educated listenership on twitter ship. michael Fuqua said this slow ball movement disjointed lada sideways passing backwards and aronson the passing department some individual poor performances which have been noted zimmerman. Boosts your and a kosta stood out to me Patrick heater said it was an uninspiring lineup. Dot an uninspiring result. The ball move slowly. Transition defense was terrible. It got better with buccio for jackson. You'll but the lack of natural wingers is a big problem and in other tweets the name jonathan lewis popped open awful lot on his poor performance. I mean there was journalists even before the torch before the tournament when they they saw the announcement of the squad were questioning. I mean how is this gonna. Yeah tim i you mentioned. You'll i thought he was a little bit him. And i thought he was not at his best. You know i'm not gonna blanket judge guys off of this one game Do you never do no not off of in not off of one game if if he has a bad tournament. We'll have another conversation. There's a first time you've seen them understand that. I think he does some good things. But i just didn't think he played well the other night. I sometimes wish he would be more like attack minded forward looking forward like some of that. Lateral passing that. you're talking about. I think some of that is him. Certainly there's one other name. I did want to mention in terms of guys who what were the three that that the one Listener put out there. Buccio buccio cost costume. Yeah yeah. I would agree with those. There's another one that really jumped out to me. I thought shack more was excellent from fullback. Given the fact that. I think i think he only learned eleven hours before the game that he'd be starting it was going to be reggie can and but then he was pulled out for small minor injury and so shack more was kind of just like thrust into it and boy i thought he made the most of it. I mean in terms of the united states is attack minded play in the first half especially he was part of everything So i was. I was really impressed with him. A guy who we were you know he went to lita. We were all kind of intrigued by him and it didn't. It just didn't happen for him. There vantera it just like it. Never he never really got a chance to break through. And now you know you kind of blink your eyes and he's not so young anymore twenty four years old and so he's moved down he's now in the second division in spain and He's now getting chances and he played a ton last season i think he played more minutes for them For his team than anybody else on it and so he's been called back into the picture for the. Us is kind of a role. But you just you know the unfortunate thing for him is that he's playing a position that is loaded right now between desk cannon brian reynolds. They're all right backs so it's gonna be hard to see shack. Moore's opportunities grow all that much from where they are.

"Back for. He's a left-wing in four to three one a lot of times for canada. No jonathan david in this event for them so maybe some more goals go around his way. Tell me i'm crazy for picking up. You're crazy they could win the group and the national museum that group. So you're not crazy there. You go all right so the gold cup. Starting on saturday with alphonso davies leading the way for canada. Italy england italy england. The final wising linen. The final well Maybe mexican and danish fans have a lot more in common after this remember. No i've been in two thousand fourteen hurt. The danes think they have their own version of it. Here raheem sterling drawing the penalty in extra-time. The decisive penalty as england goes on to win to two one clinch that spot in the pinal straight up. Her wasn't a pen. No no listen. I know what raheem sterling is. And he's actually on the way to fallen down all ready to contact concepts. He's going down the problem. Isn't it you and i think it's a penalty. It's what this guy in blue thinks about it. That's the problem and he thought it was a penalty. What about this. We had lasers being blasted at casper's michael. The danish go. It didn't seem to affect them. He made the first. Save only to see harry kane. Then put it in her. What heartbreak whether or not. It's just cruel for denmark The worst possible way for them to go out and you're cheering for denmark. As a nation for everything they've been through it just unbelievable grits and hope that they demonstrated throughout the tournament. He blocks the penalty. But the rebound goes right back to hurricane. Yeah the tough.

"For the us. Mnt well for gregg berhalter in for live these players. It's what they can do for themselves individually or some players like mathew copy some players like reggie cannon who are looking at showcase themselves a better transfer to a better club situation. Then there is the possibility of other players booking their ticket to got that. When i talk about the number of players that already have a lock with gregg berhalter maybe put it in double digits. Maybe he's already got his core. That least what. I don't know let's throw out a member five to seven players that could be fringe players that he's not quite sure on that in. Eighteen months can realistically prove themselves well. Gold cup always been tournament for players to earn themselves positions. We've seen in the past with players like bees later with players like omar gonzalez. These situations exist. They booked their tickets for what they do. In gold cup they earn the opportunity through gold cup. So another situation may be opposite. Polars or i should say into the spectrum for what is mexico and the us men's national team but they could earn something qatar when the roster was announced for the us. I think it was nine players. Twenty three or under. I think a lot of these guys are playing more for twenty twenty six and twenty twenty two. But i'll give you four guys her to your point that i think are playing for twenty two. Reo czar legit rolled on those four guys. It's it's a big big tournament for those four guys to prove not necessarily to gregg berhalter their value because he keeps calling him in but that they really really deserve a spot in the team. That's going to go legitimate list. I mean that seems to be one of the deals. One of the favorites of gregg. Berhalter sure we'll see we'll see when all the europeans come in give it another year. We'll see where legit is in the pecking order but certainly name to keep an eye out in this tournament. All right let's move past. Us in mexico right because.

"Very honest. what i know. Dot com tino talked to him in september of twenty nine thousand nine hundred when there were some issues about discipline that happened in jersey in san antonio and he said caveat we respected you. You were going to be a dad. You didn't come for this goal cup. Then you come and created this mess that that one caveat it to do a public apology he was never gonna do it obviously for personal reasons so that they it's been a series of events. It's very sad. I've covered the national team for a long time. And the fact that. She charlie to the all timeline. Score you really. I really know. He's not wanted on the team from some of the players in tingle doesn't want it so it's really sad because you're talking about well. He considers himself a legend. But he's out they don't want him in the fact that we came in got hurt. That's why he came into the picture. But yes i was told earlier in the week here in la that if she was going to be called last minute for this summer's gold cup he would have said no obviously they probably make a phone call before they do anything publicly and then he denies it but when she he says that i don't need to call anybody i don't need to say anything. It has to do what i found out this week. That said we need a public apology. He never gave it in. That doesn't charge you know. Don't confuse activity with accomplishment. He'd better win this gold cup because he can do whatever he wants. The owner of the mexican team right now is that except when they're talking about money like what happened in nashville last. I hate thought that we need to fly. You gotta give some credibility to the olympic game. We got a contract with some for making lot of money and we don't want it to be mad. So hey bring your dr morano. Just sit on the bench. Don't worry jimmy's is going to work in. That was very embarrassing to be on the flu. Dot the martino to just sit there on the bench and watch somebody else. Be the manager of the team. Yeah i agree to a contract with some. It was in the contract. But let's let me just for a second. Try to try to gather my thoughts on. What's going on. Because i i can't imagine that that would would say behind closed doors. I need a public apology. And then not get it and just let this keep festering non and let all these rumors happen and make yourself look bad instead of just saying to the press. He needs to apologize to me to his teammates for what happened. He's never said that he's never been transparent. And then to caveat non his in his mind thinking to himself. There's a possibility that i will menace comes back. And he's healthy and he's full-throttle any scoring goals again come next premier league season. That's out of my control. There's a possibility. Dean goes to the olympics and he crushes it the same way that lebron wins gold and he scoring goals. There's a possibility that believe or pool is maury in this gulf cup crushed you and they're scoring goals and it's out of sight out of mind and i'm way down. The pecking order right now. Caveat scoring goals. He's never once said he wanted to retire. Or you just want to be with the national teams to me as you can imagine john. I have a hard time believing caveat. That would let it go this far. You know. he's very healthy. He's never had really ankle or or knee injuries. I think she took him play two three years at a high level. But the reality is he's not considered by by mattino. The moment commend got hurt. That's one funez. Motor came into the equation. I'll give you an example. This week there was a cheap cherry to answer but not a question to martino when he said hey years. He has an ankle problem but he'll be ready one hundred percent. We consider him for the gold cup. So that's the way he saying. Dream that you took questions like saying my nine czar when his monte alum pollino in he doesn't want to try to. Obviously you never know what could happen is coming back is going to be okay. If he's going to be injured he has to give himself that option thinking of the world cup but not this year. That's why. I say it's very sad that the all time leading scorer the mexican national team is not welcome in in his own country's national team and it's not just what happened in discipline in september. Twenty nine thousand nine hundred. It's been a process of things you know. He got mad at him. In image in premiums would play the player so there was a lot of things that went on. It's very sad to be honest john. You're in nashville. Last night as we mentioned for mexico against panama. Basically mexico's u twenty. Three's that team obviously still played in front of a huge group of mexican fans. We saw them ocho pre-game giving the announcement about the homophobic slur. That we've heard time and time again. Obviously this is something that the federation john in the last really month has started to take very very seriously with what they're saying outwardly. What they're doing. I wonder what you make what the federation is saying about their latest efforts and actually national last night. Did you hear any of the homophobic channel. No you know what. I'm very happy. How the mexican federation the president. John lewis has worked on it. Not just not last night. It was a couple of weeks ago. I was in atlanta. When mexico played on us there wasn't any chance. I think they're communicating the talk about respect. I would say the word is respect. Obviously saturday in la. It's a different animal. It's going to be full stadium. La fans are a little bit like mexico. City stick fans will see what happens. There's no question that mexico's worried because fi fi has send the message you know. Sooner or later something's going to happen and a better be sooner than later because might hurt more later than sooner. You know what is disappointing i. I'm glad that math and that players like memo or cho- have taken into their own hands and sent out these messages. But call it for what it is. It's a homophobic chant. It's discriminatory say it's about respect. Listen respect is when. I'm a younger kid calling sir and ma'am to my elders. Respect is taking off my shoes. When i walk into my mother's house. Respect is not wearing a hat. When i'm at the dinner table this is homophobia this is discriminatory actions. What it is and. I wish they would do that. But at least you might consider as their baby steps but at least they're taking steps at least they're trying. I know that on saturday at the stadium. There's going to be new messages. I can tell you that guillaume ocho art and there is one thousand chunky lozano recorded a great message for one of the sponsors. And you're going to be surprised what the words come out..

"Pulisic brave one v one against should it. Put it away minute seven. Okay another josie outdoor plates. Tim ream clearing the ball. Josie bringing it down and it cutting up more in the buck should have put it away. This is minute seven okay. This is the goal he should have had. So that's two right. Now minute thirty josie out attracting players in his paw getting an across this. They're all attended josie. Now it's just a player that creates things. His size is physical skill. Set the way. He carries himself with the ball. How dangerous it could be. I went back and check my notes in this game. I take notes. I should've been four one. Us men's national team by the fifty. Second minute there was a jordan morris. Header cleared off the line by one dollars a chance that should have been put in josie. Ultra was a huge part of that when he comes up minutes. Sixty four the us. Men's national team energy levels. They tanked they no longer can retain the ball. He's so good with his back to go. He's so good at retaining interlinking and bringing players in a skill set. We've not seen from another. Us men's national team number nine with the goal. And say what you want. Well he missed. Go right there. He still behind only landon donovan and clint dempsey in the all time scoring charts the us men's nationally and he's thirty one years of age. I know what you guys are going to say. And i'm by. I'm with you but if these young players aren't stepping up they're gonna miss them you know. It was a great performance. The one you just highlighted in your second role as josie alter doors agent. The only problem was that was his last game with the us men's national team and it's almost two years ago. He hasn't played for toronto. See since late. May i think it was a twenty second of may. Was his last game so hurt. When i start thinking about josie. We thought that the gold cup might be an opportunity for him to use the international stage to boost his club stock. Clearly his resume is not going to get him another. Call up with the. Us men's national team. He's going to have to use club. Not just find a club but lockdown a starting spot at that club and then keep scoring at that club to even get back into the conversation. Yeah for this national team at thirty one years old with the money. He's on tse. That seems very very if not unlikely just difficult. I think we have to ask the question. Now we've danced around it on this show. But is this. Officially the end of josie altidore. Because this is an mls focused. Roster this is what you just said was a b. or c. josie outdoor at. This point isn't good enough for a beer. C team is okay for him. Do you think it's not good enough. That gregg berhalter couldn't realistically put him on the team without having an actual club. I think josie outdoors resume. If gregg berhalter wanted to bring him he could have. I think it's enough to bring him and gregg berhalter decision clearly clearly. That's not how we feel. So josie done with the national team. I don't think jones with the national team. And that's because of the reason we just stated these number nine sworn staking claim to this position now if there was a nine who is banging in goals left and right or two. He's done but there isn't right now. There hasn't been a nine state claim to that. So as long as josie authors thirty one years of age is still in this picture and they're scoring goals. You're gonna keep hearing from altered or one of those. As i mentioned thirty six players cut from this list of fifty nine the preliminary list another one. Her yon arauco young right back for the la galaxy nineteen years old. Let's listen in as gregg. Berhalter explains the decision in terms of julian. It's it's a case of him being a national and not fully ready to commit to the team and he know that the goal coupled lock him in permanently and he you know he wasn't ready to make that step. I don't want to speak for him. But i can imagine. When he looks at the depth of the right back position he sees a logjam there and he maybe fully see his pathway to being a starter in the next world cup. What i can tell you. Is we really value. Julie and everything is an outstanding player and we think he can make a run it of being start on this and a lot of it's going to be up to form in his development but he's a young player young talented player and we think that you know he does have a future with this team but for the gulf cup is not going to be taking taking part interesting comments there her from gregg. Berhalter what do you make of it. I.

"Real young. Look that nine players twenty three or under you see. There's a real lack of cats a real lack of experience in this team. The one thing. I think we have to point out here in terms of why the big boys aren't here. You look at the schedule this turn it wraps on august first the premier league the bundesliga though season start her on august thirteenth. So if you're a player and you're to be with this team you would be missing. Significant parts of eric important preseason. I don't think though this gives us less reasons to watch. I think there's a real sense of urgency for guys if we are going to call this a bt mercy team then spots eighteen to twenty three when it comes to those world cup qualifiers. You're looking at names like roll down the jet a cost a cannon guys who you know are probably going to get called up. But what's their role here they're going to have to dominate here. They're going to have to lay claim to one of those final spots on the roster. The other thing that i think is interesting when we start calling this team is it does throw a little shade. Probably deservedly so with the gold cup itself. I remember tournaments. Two thousand thirteen two thousand seventeen mexico's involved in the confederations cup. And when mexico would send a team it really took some of the star power really took some of the meaning out of this tournament. I don't know that the us men's national team is disrespecting the gold cup but by not sending the eighteen. They're certainly making it less important. That's a topic of conversation in the circles of mexican press today. Why is the united states. Men's national team sending this second rate team in there is. Why aren't they forced to sunday. First rate team in eighteen like the mexican nash teams of the past. You mentioned you mentioned what was copa america. All these different tournaments where they had to send their b squad to play and what was the fallout gold cup. Well that's not the case here. I will argue back then. You had something to play for. You had half a ticket to was the confed cup. You don't have that anymore. So essentially you put up with this tournament out of thin air and you say it's to increase relevancy in zone for these smaller countries to help these neighboring countries with his the cap nations league you have that tournament. The eighteen plays in that they actually went for the us. Men's national team and now greg has a choice. What do i do with this congestive calendar. Where do with these players who are still trying to win themselves. They position in europe athar club teams in my eyes. He made the correct sison. Yeah look the gold. Cup has a lot to compete with european championships. Go by medica. Now we throw in the nation's league and it makes it a tougher and tougher event to get excited about still though her lots to play for here. Let's talk about the players who may have the most to gain.

"Right into a charlie. This is this is what we like to do. This is only like to think about. This is what we're looking forward to this summer after that. Big nations league victory from the us. Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time. We're gonna have to separate groups. Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time. Jump Racing Stars Return: Weekend Review

"Tracy hello welcome back to the show. Thank you having me back again. Your debut went condone an absolute storm. So no pressure no pressure no I loved it Alaska and so it's good to be getting back into the national hunt side of it at this time as well Have you been reading out much at Tom Georgia stable and have you any info for us. Yeah yeah that's it. Yeah the form is kicking in now as well broke. Because I mean it's well documented. Isn't it with Tom. Sources that they take take a little bit of warming up for the season but OC big guns are coming out now with at some available in black off. Yeah the WHO is going really well. So it's worth getting early in the mornings as mornings getting the leaker at the minutes are going and see yes bro Policy Hoses now into getting getting sits on the. Yeah as we see the frost in the morning and it's dark when we wake up early in the morning and it's getting during the evenings aren't stretching out like they used to but the great thing about it though is that we get to talk about jumps racing and a man who has so many fingers in in so many different pies and so access to so much information is at the races pundit. Mr Kevin Blake the award nominated Nominated Kevin Blake by the way. And if I said this earlier in the year if you don't win this year it's an absolute disgrace time was. has you sound confident. You're sounding confidence. Speech is better than that. Yeah thanks boy. Simon Rowlands also dominated from the racist dot com and rightly so at the races. Dot Com have got Microsoft for the jumps which Kevin has contributed to so to podcasts favorite. Toni Keenan and many others. There is some gold gold information there so highly. Recommend you check it. It'll come up on the at the races. Main page click into it info gold like therefore you speaking of let's look back at some of the highlights. The weekend we saw Nicky Henderson unleash some of his Cheltenham Festival hopes. There were two big races that to you his young guns running and they won but this a bit of question marks over both of them after their performances I would say. Let's start with Santini. We were recording on Mondays. This was yesterday the Virgin bit future stars into media chase at sandown. He just about beat now McGinty to be fair talk. His jeep brand. No SORTA racing was well back in thirty lengths behind winner if the bet three six five or whatever the hell it's called now Cup At sandown. What what did you make of this performance to start the season for Santini kitschy? Yeah it was. Laborious believes the mean Nicky Henderson came out himself and he's a very strict toolkit very nicky Henderson and he said himself you know he's the first one to say that it was is a bit of a struggle facade teeny and but everyone saw him before one hundred and he was he was pretty big weightwise in the PRELIMS US country down to post and I was in the shooter day so we got the full coverage of him and we had a Ken encore in. He rang up to preview the race. What he'd seen in paddock and he just said some teeny he said he? He is big and so naturally he's GonNa come on. Fritz and Nicky Henderson said himself that he's a really it difficult to gauge way. You all with him and he says he doesn't really do a tapa home so he does always need to run and he does always come among for it but he was just always behind the bridal luckily McGinty gave him the lead. Because I'd save Santini a hot to make his own running essay he would have been an idol out in front probably would have lost a few links at his at his fences so not reasonably. He's not going for the king. George now probably move based on His run in Felton noses lush. Da were finishing the. It's just. He's a big horse. He needs galloping. Track in Camden. I'm doing is just to shop for him. Say Rid of a blessing in disguise from a from that point of view but no we. Didn't he just in seconds. Let's talk about him briefly. I thought he ran blinder. I vote he had a sneaky chance going into it of Sierra Stuart Edmonds usage. You never have any fears. What so ever I? I'm out that they are going to be a shooting to perfect shen for that race. Either master trainer of course in terms of he feeds them to the heavens Today that he makes himself but he trains them really hard. So they're tough. They're always fit but they have a plenty enough energy and enthusiasm in them to go well so he runs on an absolute blind just being behind the bridal early on another one a and Tommy Bryan made really decisive move in just getting him up with the pace Properly make his mind evidence fences and forcing the issue and and baking his fitness toby source Santini country down to post and thought he have the fitness to a retention prevail over him. But he'll go to Welsh national on our which We will have a massive massive chance in that providing Yeah is his jumping still say as well which he had a little bit of an issue last last time Last season one hundred with fresh early on how to get Genieford Huntington very unseated Karen Gatherings at day. So he's an yeah. He's a really nice looking forward but yes I'm teeny is going to have to come on a lot. He's got approved himself. Invest Higher Rankings. So Santini is rory largs idea of the Gold Cup winner will come to my selection who has reappeared hidden very much disappointed already this season but this was his first our start. He's threes on Kev. Are we being overly harsh on Nikki source. Is it just a case of while he's come out in these one or would you look at this. This is a forerunner race. You should've known by further. Yeah and I'm pretty disappointed. SULFITE Very Labor which you wouldn't really expect it's an honor horses seasonal reappearance. They should be more exuberant than normal really under the seasonal return and he was very labor. It needed to be driven away from fences dances relatively early in the race and just made really hard work of hired to put a number on. What now McGinty did in Iran up to himself or was he was he just blow himself Out of his wallet. Because they're a monetary of the rest having raised the Gallup so very disappointing. Look you'd never judge a horse too harshly on on one. Go with again. The next day was if he shapes in in in any way similar fashion. IB reaching for cheek pieces or blinkers curse or something like that. Because I think he shaped like a horse that needed them there and you know. It's it's puzzling Nikki. Seemingly isn't considering the Christmas chasing Jason efforts down for him. If he doesn't want to go to the King George that would be the natural target for I think Nikki is a small bit allergic to go to Ireland anytime buyer the Punchestown unfestive which is Pity because you'd imagine the effort sound would play to his strengths. Why is that though because the the lexus chases aces used to be known? Now the Leopardstown Chris Denman came over for best mate. Came over for it. Pretty sure L.. Best mate got got beaten in it by the infamous for Salmon Salmon. Paul carberry celebration but it is the ideal race for him and yeah look. Nikki is tell them focused. It doesn't like to travel before it and I think that's ultimately it okay. Well let's take a look at some of the other horses reappeared who are second season chasers and this means that we have the opportunity to talk about this yet. The ladbrokes champion chase down royal was won by Roach. Respect is a real funnel podcast favorite mostly. Thanks to Kim Blake Cleanser Soba was well held back in seconds. The King George Winner Alpina so back in third. We'll talk about jockey bookings a little bit later on and then there was Delta work all the way back and forth. Who was my idea of the Gold Cup winner? I was really perplexed by this. Was this In your view Kate a real case of. It's very early in the season. Let's not panic or would you be a little bit worried. The cleanser Soba was beaten so easily the delta work was well held. Maybe we're not giving them respect to Russia respect. Yeah I royer I. I definitely think it's way too early for me to take any sorts of judgement entitled to send in a Kuna cools after the race. I mean it's been well documented over stars who their seasons pools horses will very much needed the Ron and you kind of thought the fact that Kandebow was making the journey over that he might Well have that fitness on his side. He may be a bit more focused on the fact they were going that way but I think he he shaped really well and You know I caridi wouldn't read too much into that and Yeah he's A. I think he's a really nice progressive. Who Still Use Yucca? Plenty enough it gives you everything folks on this end of the season at this stage. Now it's not for me to read too much into

"Hello hello and welcome to a very special edition of three while had no cover a Melbourne cap spatial we're going to go through every runner in the rise and fall and you will win out in a rice that stops a nation Russian and more to co host as always went on I'm in the chair and Julian Velazquez in white hot form of the moment if Russia on Saturday you went with Miami Band and Rice to over fleet you are on far at the moment you hit can easily change your on the good as you last election bought we going by but this rice is tough if there's an idea but we're gonNA raw knows all about it and you'll be able to put us in the right direction recently does these group one winning jockey many many times I'll tell you what when you come ad for Melbourne Cup wake what do you do you know you're going to be on TV beat you get rid of the beat and you go clean shy of any loops ten years younger that man is some and Marshall thank you good to have view I in the pigskins tonight especial Melvin competition this is a good feel this is a great field there's stack question marks recognize genuine chances in the Rice Sarah dissecting talking about them and maybe a COUPLA fees for the panels at home as we always liked the play the motorcycles watch this show all the time we're laws that are not always here markle wall will make wall or skipper as we now him macy's full alive and apparently he's got appendicitis and he organized they shouted out he was the driver behind Z.? LOVES BEING ON THE CAMERA LOVES BEING ON TV now apparently appendicitis apparently rushed to hospital but this video always target only twenty four hours ago and show you video on will the background camera legal round the block a man in the back dead who is going to pin this on us now are always the doctor boys I would be looking getting nowhere near the appendix I'll be working towards the leveraging as the light scratching on vets at voice box towel enjoys Dhabi heavy wealth to talk about on Taylor downdraft on Saturday fans wind the Melbourne Cup the Siamese Prince of aerated law she came third in the rice has that changed anything look into the rice it's now seven eight dollars and obviously we've seen through history that you win the Lexus the wholesome the SOB whatever it's called utain to run really well in the Melbourne Cop in the the market seems to gravitate toward you we'll get to that very shortly bought the market did change a little bit off to the barriers or war we're going to get the market up a brand new let's go through the market rocket as it stands at the moment and glass who's coming to five or tim that was a bad I fifty a couple of weeks ago Constantinople touch sevens at had fiend Shit tain bound declares in the cross Cantu the extra kilos this she is surprised by being Il Paradiso having a lot of pundits h. y. the Prince of Erin and move always at either over the table and Raymond Tusk at Nineteen downdraft is the one that came means southern France bits bits two thousand dollars on on the five southern France at twenty one dollars all the way Dan Hunting Horn who won two weeks ago at forty one dollars here it's a big rice guys on the page and there's still some genuine probably live chances there as well toy that we've had since the barrier to that the punishment the most sports bit the favorite mode aglow I told is into six fifty after the barrier draw guy to probably a big advantage for that horse obviously it's good it's about thirty two hundred meters but maybe the guy alleviates it's a couple of those problems with that and the other one was lying there the to the pun is one of the moment for us at sports is there anything out of Sessa die the why the trek plied that you can take in the Melbourne Cup look other than the fact that you are dandruff obviously going really well he's going to be fit we still have these trucks going apply to be honest it was quite wet on Saturday there's GonNa be some rain today on Monday and supposedly drawing we know it's a joint track but he's going to draw on add some confidence seem Flemington because what we saw on Saturday Dhabi is they used the entire tract I didn't just stick to the fence that didn't stick for the day in the middle like I'm Dan wide and we sold melody battle-winning Michael Grand and also fees impact and then towards the end of the day that I wish shifting off and leaving the fence about four horses of a gap to the inside running row also it was a great spread right across the track all wouldn't expect it to be too much I've got to get through it on Melbourne Cup Day and jockeys go to pick their best path so Jewish touched on it a little bit of inclement weather I think it'll just help Flemington because it's such a great draining track they've prepared these track for the full days play on Oregon it was really fair on Saturday more I'm really looking forward to catching up with the hall of fame trying to dive is he's got three runners in the Melbourne Cup and we're going to get him on the final on a little bit lighter so he won't be able to help some throughout the show today I'm looking forward to that is your task done well let let's go through all the runners one by one in Reis Book Order Starting With Number One cross candidate last year obviously a little bit more white penalty the she does a two-horse classy Ohio UCS V8's now with goodell from blue forever because of course Canis Ripa but that's last year that's irrelevant now you go to carry fifty seven and a half doing now you can get thirty two hundred Mehta's after one the Melvin copy he wants him otherwise he went to do boy I wanNA group to their he started two dollars fifty in this ledger most recent run looking Ren fourth I think back in that rice it was a little bit of a worrying run but he has the pay over a lot of these other international forces put it this way Celli police and absolutely gun he's done it before these horses this is done it before he can win the rice he's not my talk for everybody can definitely win the rice is to have been more helpful because I'm going to trust him at Flemington Lymington as a genuine style what we saw last year was that three year old northern hemisphere hemisphere foam come to the fore carried fifty two key allies he was the best background Gripe Gripe profile leading into that rice since then Josie mentioned you want my which was terrific winning out of the thirty two hundred meters so to me that look walk a whole studied improved to travel back tonight in and then he ran out of a full thousand meters he got one point nine links off stratovarius in gripe form rice in the Gold Cup with D. XP just let's be in front of him as well and then he wasn't far why beyond Stratovarius again in the goodwood and then Dayton full links I'll forgive him for that he's had a really good I think he's a better whole this year and net foam and those four runs within twelve months suggest that he's a bit holes that's fifty seven and a half the reason Gordon Moore top four is because I'm going to trust him as the genuine style in the rice think if you've got class law came you can come back drawing a good guy with fifty seven and a half get locked away and he's going to use he's that he's going to be more top four for those reasons I think we're going to see a bit of a patent horses that can win absolutely smell them cap so that is a big number one cross cannock came winless got the number to murder glass obviously after the barrier draw eight fifty six dollars fifty dining line on board came in as well Ken Wayne counting anyway any of that process of six dollars fifty Moran knowing nine dollars fifty but of a winning chance look he wanted to cool field cop I think the inside guy is the positive Damian line is absolutely able when he's a fantastic jockey there is concerns whether it gets thirty two hundred meters stay in that's probably the concern for the Japanese but I think the inside guy allows him to maybe get a bomb and just because up clued up if you can be with four hundred maters guy I've got no daddy can win the rice doubts on the coffee cupping teams if he had every opportunity to win that rice and still on the run high twenty four and a half twelve and a half so it wasn't sensational last four hundred dollars two hundred a pretty moderate Tampa he's got meaningful the Japan and as a guns I think sometimes we can fall into the brains of twenty four hundred a Coffee Cup win locked that didn't right off the roof in terms of figures that was he's I have a twenty four hundred proud of that he was a two-time winner I have a twenty two hundred police phones brain around the mall and a quarter so easy to to brilliant and is he wanted to he's best at fifty-six kilos against genuine thirty two hundred natal's GonNa be strong that you can trust at the end of the rice with that Madam on top four and now he gets the best run but he's going to need the bush guidance it'll suck up beyond side he can use that tune afoot but easy the brain Ho slot the Saudi thinks these talk horses that we've saying come through at the mall and a quarter and right really well and Hoy but just with the fifty six and not being tested beyond twenty four hundred meters of got that question macaroni happy to him on Kenny Win Not yes yes okay number three mass reality twenty six dollars at at the moment Frankie Dettori onboard can't win yes but I just don't know enough about the tone four one hundred twenty three matches up pretty well but time for one hundred twenty three fifty four and a half roy it up there I mean that's a fair wack he's the handicap has got a hold of him there's no doubting that he ran fifty alleged that cross Canada ran fourteen cross Canada Tudo is fifty Master Valley started fifteen does he can win but I've got him into bat twenty one twenty six dollars look I wouldn't be knocked over but he won't be my betting strategy is to he can he can running the top bite for show this horse because he's a genuine style and he's trolling barrier wine he gets a fifty five and a half and he's foolish stratovarius there's a lot of this

"Jeff Good Morning Good morning how you doing excellent and lots to digest. We've already talked to the J ribbon earlier this morning morning. I want to get your take on what went on about the racist we discussed last week including the the upset which I think is less shocking talking than people. The people are are feeling. It didn't seem upon further review that Mongolian groom was all that impossible well. He wants to me I mean I thought he'd run well but I I really I'd watch McKinsey working. I thought he was ready to roll. Oh and just looking at the form I thought that he would win and he he moved to the top of the stretch like he was going to pounce and then he kind of flat out and I I always had a little sense of doubt that maybe he wasn't quite amount of quarterhorse but this is only a mile and they and I was disappointed and I think Bob Baffert with two do I really was an he's made in announcement that he's going to replace my Smith with a writer that we don't know who's going to be. I'm sure all the the agents are kind of hanging around trying to throw their hat in the ring but yeah I mean I it was I mean it's it's just it's the nature of the game here. We've you see this happen a lot and perhaps the real the real important racist coming up a month from now but if you've you know food for thought as to whether or not the horse that we also at least I thought was the number one older horse in the country. is really that much better than everybody else and amount of quarter. I think it's anybody's game now fold in as well the the result at the Jockey Club Gold Cup and what did you think of the takedown and who do you favor of the two of them coming out west well. I'll tell you what that I I was kind of hoping that it didn't come down and even I thought the three year old is going to win the race going in and what am I ran well. I thought he I thought he had every chance to get by but it was a tough. It's tough to lose a race lightweight like way when push came to shove and unfortunately for her also did come to push he he hung in there I think both both of those are deserving the universal. I'd come already come out west a winner racer over the summer so we subtract and so they'll meet again it's I I. I was talking about this. The other day was Zoe on our podcast and we we were pretty much not baffled. I don't think that's the way but kind of open to in trying to figure out who might win the plastic doors so many possibilities now so many horses that look like they're capable title stepping up some of them that look good or maybe vulnerable so I duNNo. We'll be watching the next couple of three weeks to see who trains the best. Maybe maybe we can come up with a conclusion but right now now. It's really a mess we'll wait till they get the decisions. The final decisions horses like a late and late would add another wrinkle visit I think they're thinking mile and a quarter and the boys aren't that top much tougher for maybe the midnight DC would be if he ran against her again and and a mile an eighth in the in the the staff so that would that would certainly make an interesting well a couple of other thoughts jeff about last weekend the reasons we discussed filled D'Amato just a of magical a couple of days pee wee reese on Friday mirth and Cleopatra Strike in the Rodeo drive and the John Henry able to Geo Story. I keep coming back to it because what can you say and then Sunday Paradise Woods and I ask you the same question that I brought up up with Jay and I asked Sadler too Sadler Sheriff's the other day if she runs that race of the distaff she's she's a major major player and I know she's a notorious in and outer but I thought that was a terrific effort it was it was accomplished under under pristine conditions sitting right outside a speed horse with nobody all rounder nobody in front of her nobody beside her with kind of like a workout for but she did feel the deal as she finished strongly and she earned a beyer speed figure that was something like eight or nine points better than they were not that that means anything but bottom line is she ran really well now whether or not she can do that again I don't know if he pointed out not exactly your model of consistency and I thought maybe your best days were behind her but boy did she work well and I I I yeah I mean you have to go. You have to think that going into the dispatch. This definitely has a legitimate chance I mean if she decides to show up with a game the thing that we're going to start talking about Jeff when when when I'm at clockers corner and and we're watching horses work and when we analyzed the the XP TV workouts leading up to the race between you and Millie Ah Zoe is going to be fitness levels and the one thing you're not going to have to worry about John. The sheriff's Baffert and Sadler is is fitness of these horses on that racetrack and that's going to be a huge factor and I'm I'M GONNA keep referring to the east coast horses that went to del Elmar for the Pacific Classic and God drowned on that deep surface and Steve Asmussen asked me to his credit with with tenfold he learned his lesson and went out early with Mottola because he is not gonna get caught on that element he wants his horses. This is ready to travel over that surface and it's going to be something we we really focus on and then I'm sure in the recap you know after breeders Peter Scott. It's GONNA come up well down. Mars is eat but it's it's not it's not any deeper than in Santa Anita where this is not the old Santa Anita track backwards you know three quarters in eight and change all all day long I mean you have to be did fit to run on. This track is deep. You just tiring you you have to train over it. I think I think it really helps and yeah I think it's going to be very important to to to watch the works and I I do think it's going to be a great advantage for horses to get in early and get a beast of one or maybe even to work over the drag your possible because it's it's not it's it's tough. It's it's it. It's deeper than New York and Belmont Park is I'm convinced of that and I know Belmont to be called the fanny and all that but this track is is big heavy. I mean it's the faith it's safe and that's why they made it so deep but you've gotta get through it and you gotTa. That'd be fit well. Let's get set to look at the weekend and before we talk about Saturday any any day maker ideas for today well. You know it's yeah I mean I I did do a couple of San Anita and I can give the a little bit of an insight today's tough but I like the Philly name swirling in the fourth race she's not the favorite averaged five to two zero six two five in there she's a late running turf sprinter that that I that likes attending through force and they're starting to run five and a half now in the first we've got a couple now they extended the shootout there so she'd found five furlongs on this course a little stripe and she was hitting the boy and running well but just running out of room now she goes five and a half and I noticed in the few couple of five and a half long since we've had so far that the closers have a better chance and she's she's good enough to win. and I think that extra half for a long we'll give her the edge that she needs so I'm looking at number two swirling in the fourth race to kind of heightened me over for that's my play play today. It's an okay car not a great guard but I think we can we can get some value there because she's not going to be the favorite it's excellent all right swirling today and Let's let's go to the weekend and obviously the steak the steak side of things Let's talk about talk about the city of hope I because it it it really is intriguing and I brought up with Jay earlier. Jeff the mixing and matching of older horses. I mean really veteran in six seven eight year olds like synchrony and Ohio and Bolo and catapult facing off against some horses that may be emerging What's your angle in the studio? It's really hard. I handicap this this race and I came up with about four or five that on their best day could win. synchrony is intriguing to me I think he's intrinsically the best of the group but he doesn't have a lot of tactical speed and going a mile on this course even though he's running the tool aww theoretically he could maybe draft into the mid part of the mid packing and save the nangle out and get through he tends to give himself a lot to do and I remember when he came out here for the CBS del Mar last November. The same thing happened. Do that was sixteen. He fell back. He he had some traffic trouble he got. That's where we finished. Fuller Ronnie finished thirty one but but he didn't get there so I I like him at five to one at synchrony shipper I I hope he gets the trip. If he doesn't then you can make a case for a number of these. I mean looking for fifteen to one shot number four on your program. Aziz restrained vengeance. He's GonNa get loose in the lead and if he does that he can be dangerous. TAT upholds training really well but he's form doesn't look all that well you gotta go back to the Kilroy Mile Back in March the finding good but at least it was over this turf fourth and he could pop up Sadler. He's five to one the raises a bunch of the race basically is is a bunch. That's a five to one shots hoping for good luck but I think maybe if he gets through synchrony can win I wanted to I wanted to like River Boyne off the lay off and then John White made him four to one and that that cooled my ardor well you know I looked at him him and he was a very good three year old and he hasn't won at four and haven't made a lot of progress at least according to his numbers and he goes from practice and I'm looking elsewhere. Let's put it that way you know a to go back to an angle from last week as that in fact Jay also came up with and Dash the other filled D'Amato player and here's able to do who the things that just seem to be running for Jeff at at least from what we saw last week while they they ran for a golden gate when he was leading rider up there and I talked to them for a number of years actually we had horses up there and he he wrote for us always felt that he was good enough but he was kingpin up there era and then he decided to make the leap and I thought it might be tough for them but it really hasn't he's really falling favor with the with the horsemen down here and he's a strong writer but he's a good rider as far as and dishes concern. He's coming off a nice win. Del Mar.. He's obviously never beaten this this group although he did run second Mendelssohn and his racing debut of that matters which it doesn't that was way back in two thousand seventeen at the Curragh but but he's he's he's developing. He's he's coming around and the way the model is going. I mean I wouldn't put anything past him and especially in a race like this in which really there is no standout and anything can happen so hey why not wanting to watch a couple of other thoughts. what do you make of this chance Salat Omaha beach matchup the very very different set of three year olds against elders in the in the sprint championship wells twelve sheds lots four to five in the morning line because he's not only the fastest horse in the race in terms of numbers but he's also look controlling speed and he doesn't even have to go that fast my my concern was and it's kind of happened in the Jerkins a little bit then I know that the inside part of the wasn't particularly hit that day but they kinda slowdown down twenty three flat forty five and and he's fast horse and I think you gotta use his weapon and I think going three quarters. They don't have to worry too much about you. Know saving reading anything so I I would suspect he'll bust out there and go. He had a nice breeze over the track. I think Navarro did the right thing by bringing them out early and breezy had a half and forty. He's seven and one third fastest at sixty five last week and he lied did it. The right way looked like he was relaxed like he got over the track very very well so he's going to be it really hard for Omaha Beach the rundown although I my theory about Omaha beach is that he's always wanted to be a sprinter and because he was so good and all the money's going long long that Richard Mandella kept running them wrong and why wouldn't he won the rebel in the Arkansas Derby any may have even able to win the Kentucky Derby had come down with the trap Levada brought his only sprint race of his career only race of seven that he actually sprinted

"McGee Jay Brennan and Dave Greg Good Morning the hard act to follow right there well. I think you're up to it and much like we did with Jay. Hey we didn't get a chance to talk last week. Day I saw some of your thoughts on paper and on twitter but quick hit from last weekend the Jockey Club Gold Cup Diku and everything that came with it didn't agree with the call but that's par par for the course for me and the stewarts here good rates by both horses of Abu kind of the call takes away from the performance of both you know Roseville in sort of honor. I thought it was Kinda. Overshadowed what how well they ran I thought it was in solid effort. You know Roy Moore your skin and people give them credit for so he's tactical enough that you're going to go back to the race. In California that he won he was four why but right up on the pace so he can be he can play from the start and still finish finish which is a good thing for him to have going into the classic and Code of honor you know stepped up against a couple of quality older horses and and still continues to show improvement as Shug shoveling transfer your kid and I'm glad they didn't go into stuff. it'll it'll spice it up a bit very much and we talked to show yesterday what turned into a was supposed to be a you know. Tell us about the decision ten minutes turned into forty because because show and you can talk about the current horses and then you can talk about his Breeders Cup record you know he's he's run horses in the Classic Eight Times. He's got two seconds and third and I asked him if he thought you know this was as good or the best one of the best chances that he's had in a classic and he kind of feels it is I think so in part because he's got a quality improving horse and in part because I don't see a real stand out in the division there you know I I was even if Mackenzie had one last week is still affected him at a mile and a quarter. I think come back with a pack a little bit and now I think he's you know emit commit pack there. I you know he he he was not impressive last week and and right now he doesn't have a jockey so that could be a hindrance so I I think the the you know I I think the visual the classic is releasing. My is right now pretty wide open well it it certainly enhances the classic and we got some. Jay's thoughts will also wait for some other news in decisions. Tacitus you know who I could send as many as three with a late and Yoshida. We'll see what the tacitus call is but have you talk to Jimmy later in the week about preservationists. I don't think the preservation and the clock berry good yeah. I kind of. They were Iffy iffy. Even before we got through the jockey there pretty traditional people. You Know Oh you go to the classic going for a good race. You don't go you don't travel cross country now. It's in your own backyard. Maybe maybe say okay. I'm hearing but the put him on. A plane ain't off that race. just doesn't make any sense to me and. I'm not sure what it was tales right now. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe they they just you know. Have you know conclude are dealing. Just say thank you. Thank you for the memories. They were well some other thoughts thoughts about the weekend the the two year old swept by Chad Brown and not necessarily by Chad Brown surfers Dave that were all that highly regarded regarded coming into the early fall. It looks selflessly ran a decent race when she got in her debut. She was a bit why she was just what about a half length behind her stablemate and you know. She got a very nice trip. The other day and you know you beat a field that I didn't necessarily I think was seller but that didn't necessarily like her either so I can't you know I'm not saying that I choose my choice but look it's very you know. Handicapping is hard art. When it comes to the Grillo it's simple to spend on Chad Brown. It just just do it. Does it seven and eight. I've never seen I've Nev- I don't know of any race that he may be bad for our security security and and and dumb or something that just a guy dominates the race like Chad Brown at least in New York dominates the race Jeff Brown dominates the Mus Grill and just you know next year when it comes. I'm just circle the Chad. He's got more the ones at about boxing and you'll walk out with a little more money so any payment structure solid rates you know. I I liked about structure that he showed you different dimension in the first race. It was a slow pace. He was up on it and then he finished and then they got a bit of a faster pace and close close so you like versatility show. I need to know more about what else is in that race before. I say an annoying Kim and enter a the you know a victory in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turpin juvenile fillies served interesting I said they were aware of it at the time but selflessly not nominated to the Breeders Cup now looks set clemens got that money hidden in his closet somewhere so he can easily put up the supplementary see but it it was a weird kind of a strange thing maybe just crack but be supplemented for the raiders stuff to run and I'm sure she will do well. beyond the two year old stakes stakes midnight zoo in the Belle Dame and got you got you got her legs stretched and did what was necessary. The race as that ended up surprising to some degree aside from everything that went on in the Gold Cup four Horsfield in that Vosper that ended up being really exciting and forensic fire and imperial put on some show down the stretch cool horses you know he's still still Harvard have trouble taking that race threatens fire and last year the parts race horse averaged one the rate just a cool towards I mean that's a super cool horse right there in so small but he's got such big hardy so fast and you know I think they call it a little bit adviser prize when Friends Fire Collared Him and he still had something more to offer and he gave it to him and you know maybe maybe hard race before the Breeders Cup will help him in the Breeders Cup opposed to a couple of cakewalks that he had especially last year Vosper. You just walked around there and now last year Frears Cup. Chances may have been compromised the fact that he just doesn't run it and go to Churchill downs I mean I think he's on there three times. The probably three worst races throughout the worst rates is I thought he may well enough to del Mar a few years ago when he was in the Mitch Breeders Cup and second. I believe but maybe there's hard rates will help him. battle tough because it's a tough rate expensive very very competitor's. Maybe one or better rates on the car to the totally and chance a lot on you know. I guess you have to see what Omaha beach that rates for tomorrow how he runs. A and B what they use it for work. the the the sprint has potential to come up here one of the best races on the card and I think that race will have imperial head registered. Well turn our attention attention to tomorrow and there's a lot there's a lot of intriguing match-ups paper going into Saturday at and there's actually a nice set races on Sunday with the thirty the flower bowl in the present. We gotta start with Champagne and a green light. Go Ah to forego the hopeful. After the track was a a a slop. I don't blame Jimmy Jerkins at all for taking that route however he comes into the champagne now having to go a mile and there are at least is three others that are are major players here not the least of which is Barkley tag and Saka Toga the last time they had a two year old like like this. They kept funny side against New York breads until going to Florida for the holy bull this time they're going to go for an early open company opportunity the and it's at the highest level the first thing. I want to say that this race is there is a major scratching the race three technique. Jeremiah texted me this morning and I put it up on twitter a little while although has a lung infection and we'll come out of the race and I thought he was a significant player in the field so it's down to six source field going at that. Tis The law law you know of course is very impressive. Beating New York reds first time out had shin issue that Barkley took care of list about three weeks total of training but it's gotten back in I saw I saw at least two if not all three of his three of his works here and they're very solid workout you just wonder if the layoff going a mile with the one rate is going to happen ready to do it now. The layoff is very similar to green like oh the day difference so it's not that sort of balances out but green go with tested in stakes company and also has races opposed to one and I just like I just really liked it. I I don't know what he's going to become. I don't know how far is GONNA WANNA run but I just like the way both starts getting solid well built for uh-huh hardy type of horse who just has a great hind end you know where the power generated from and I think like the mile and beyond and I think this has a moment for Jimmy. Sake that the horses say how down and continue on the campaign Jimmy. He says out born whatever that might be but I think it'd be awful strongest training like that rate.

Code of Honor Wins Jockey Club Gold Cup via Disqualification

"I gotta get your input on what transpired Saturday in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and and I should and I touched on it at the beginning of the conversation about code of honor. It isn't so much that there that there was a a disqualification to me the surprise was that they actually went ahead and acknowledged that kind of a herding Ding incident when in New York for years this this is kind of been allowed and people see it and say it's inappropriate three and why aren't they calling these and then when they called it people were outraged explain first of all what's happening when when a horses versus caring you to two and a half three paths like that well you know the person that's controlling the situation of course is the horse that doing carrying out hurting I was known to be a writer that might do that on occasion I can remember one race in particular and and it was in New York it was all my Juliet and you know that leaving the Gate Change Positions Cordero and I around the turn you know when he wanted to be an inside of course not gonNa let somebody through that was really when you it was almost on on written rule. You're not GonNa let somebody on the insects even if defenses where you WANNA billion they'll come around you around the dern and he'd done from the five fifteen taint dope poll to the quarter pole when they come around you. You're going to hedge them out. When you get to that at a stretch of course you WANNA do the amount of hurting hurting to the point where now it's just about over and you don't WanNa be the insiders that initiate heart contact to the outside when they come to the straight straight of the you know it's the Corvo three sixteenths ball because the purpose of this is everybody says well? You lose growl when you're doing stuff like that. I know what you're doing. Is You're letting your the inside horse. carry the horse to the outside of you out and you both losing some ground of course but you know where you're going and where you're gonNA stop and he has to guess how far out you're going to go and we're going to stop so he's writing his voice out at the point of the elbow times instead of like Cara. Keep going out further and further you stop going out and at the point of the elbow Obo especially if you're strange changes. Let's say it's just around the three sixteenth four area where you stray now. You'll let your horse change. You might even bounce your let your horse kind of sway in a couple with civil horse now when you're worse comes in that couple with a horse that outside or doesn't know Oh that you're going to come in and mmediately at that particular point of the elbow. He's still out there so it is hurting but it can be done in a way that doesn't always cross the line what does cross the line is at that point of the elbow. When you straighten out you still going out a little bit and and you actually cause some contact especially if it's hard contact to the outside or then you gotTa Alvarado got getting taken down? If it's just that a gradual movement out your chances are you'll get away with it. I can remember when we were New York at the Vosper. Angel Good Darrow Crane Claims Sal were similar incident. There was no hard contact but it was gradual movement out and I left him out there and drop back. NFL though he claimed how they left by number of but they did take him down on both Forbes because he bothered horse leaving the gate so it was one of those situations sometimes they don't call it and act on it at the stewarts this particular incident you know I made a statement. Even you know what it's New York. It's a good call would've gotten a call it the same way and other places. Maybe not maybe so you know it was close and a top decision wasn't real black and white you know it had some gray area to the stuarts all if they left it up. We're going to be criticized. I take it down to be criticized. It's that's just the type of incident it is. the only thing that makes like I say an incident like that. Being half fluted Braxton is it that Al when they straighten out there still about with movement of the inside West and it causes some kind of hard contact or what appears to be contact Don

"How are you? I'm good. I'm good and this is a fascinating topic. You've discussed the hurting issues for years and you know what if they're going to call it like like this on a regular basis. I think we'd all be happy right. I own a real happy. I would you know I yeah I mean obviously referring the Gold Cup senior listeners. Now I mean I you know I think that in general I've always felt that are stewards were consistent and I think those you know constant calls for consistency or more of a you know to sort of more twitter fantasy eighty but not in this one I mean at least to me I feel as though I've seen very very similar wants to this constantly not get adjudicated indicated where in this case they took the worst down. I don't have any problem with the I think. The KOTOVA won the race that horse had deliberately come out and I was surprised they didn't give by days because this one seemed like it was Iran I mean I don't know how you can say that. you know Roseau deserved reserved. Come down and it wasn't the right or that was doing it because clearly was coming out. I mean that's that's what they do. I don't I'm not blaming the writers by the way the writers are trying to win. The writers are trying to do what they can to win within the rules. They absolutely don't get us qualified so it's not like they're trying to break rules doing what they do but the stewards have allowed them to get away away with this consistently. and I read hurts a lot. Havi accustomed to hurt her job will ask us is one of the best ever seen he's a little more subtle maybe of the others and that's why he gets away with it but they all get away with it to be honest and they're trying to win so I don't. I don't criticize a rider Lider for doing what he can to win. He's only trying he or she. You're only going to try to play within the rules and what the sewage let him get away with because their job is to win for the betters the owners trainers everybody so I don't knock a writer for doing what the stewards of allow them to get away with. This case I would say Iraq was doing what they've sort of been allowed to get away with. Let's in this case. They said that they felt across the line. you know I guess could compare to adopt a doctor Edgar Kirti Queue up at Saratoga at the end of two thousand eighteen. I don't think it's either that one was much more G- Regis in this I just like the stewards to be very clear and stop the hurting. There's that race not sure but it might have been the first race that they ran thirteen but I'm not sure that was the day actually probably wasn't he goes actually on TV for that. It was the first race where I read to the worse out hurting to the far far outside rail this misnomer that there has to be contact for herding to have cost a horse victory. It's me that's that's really really problematic horses. I like when they say both worse. Were drifting. Not both drifting horses are herd animals and of course horse inside of his coming out. It's going to cause the horse to come out. The riders know that so they're moving out and moving the horse out is not to be contacting moving them out and I think that's something that needs to be understood. That contact isn't the issue issue is a worse feed sort of drifted out by another horse pursue. Prevent it for keeping US going and we see this a lot and I love to see it. You know permanently stopped. I think it would be better for the game. I think it would be safer and I don't know why everytime they come into the riders coming out for and bypass to meet their challenger. What the start art and it's it just seems like keep straight pack? I think that's a big thing. Europe isn't it but keeping a straight path. It's a standard and I won't I mean if you're in the if you're in on the rail or in the two path and there's a horse rallying out in the Uh out in the you know three four five there is there is a school of thought that says it's important that your horse be able to see that somebody's coming so moving out a little bit I get you in terms of eyeballing it. It's yesterday I got to say this because I wanted to. I wanted to say if you're driving a car because this is something something everybody can understand who has not been in the car. When a guy abreast of you or just slightly in front of you starts to drift left over into your lane and for a second you move over a little bit and then you honk at a certain point and let the guy correct is path? It's it's no oh different. There's nowhere for the Horse to go if a horse is constantly learning leaning in front Yup Yup yeah

It's a Funny Time of Year for Horse Racing

"D- William Hill Air Gold Cup went to Angel Alexander for Tom Dascomb and and Richard Kingscote growl running his usual good race back in second. He's real consistent horse to be fair. Gulliver sound effort in third and we had the massive orange plunged job of buffer zone at bombed and bombed badly. He did finish George Bone to be fair. So at least you got one little bit the result on the Angel Alexander a huge win for Tom DASCOMB Steve Well. We'll stick with you to start this off three year old in a handicap recap very valuable one at that a surprise winner but a very impressive performance today yes surprised when a with the Pricey he went off twenty eight to one and he's been bigger in the MON thing but this is a whole sued one three times earlier in the season and run until badly chested from wide drone orange previous start so although it's easy to say off the top the John's but I was really impressed with in seemed to be drawn on the wrong side while sitting in the small all it group and I always think when you look at these big handicaps the only solid you wanna bail away you. WanNa be's where the Pacers and it's it all seem to have low so the fact that he was able to come down the stand side an hydro and he was I think three three or four lengths ahead of the neck extols It was very impressive in the fatty unexposed over six furlongs. I only the second three roles on since two hundred to two thousand three's it's point still a very progressive sprinters probably. GonNa have a decent season next year. You'd like you think so. You'd certainly like to think so rory. What was your take on the dark angel getting the win the William Hill Air Goal to give it its full title I wouldn't I wouldn't massively disagree with the commission's been made so far I just wonder whether of it of a twilight horse in terms of his racing defy defy the he'll have to go up to pattern company. Nick Season Eastern East finished three last year. The of the next woman is side of the tried back on. It's easy to say you mark them up for that. Because the rest of the placed horses were on the Far Side I do think that major jumbled in a hell of a lot of good though so it gives them a really good tool and it's all it's all very well. Concentrating on more is wasn't say well look at Cyber Fair but when the when the nearside win the race this they're not they're not done to sometimes we can get at tangled up in in you know horses being potentially better than the results. and again we've had this discussion time on the on the on the podcast abide what are considered to be draws but of course keeps winning from what I meant to be standing joke about winning from sole twenty plus over model and a half and Oscar going that must be a hell of a horse to win from not draw. I do it every single year so I'm not convinced that he was better than the result but in saying he's he's unexposed those sorts of conditions additions a big field sprint over six furlongs in a lot of his form has come around a band or unsightly very different tribes to wear so given conventional taxis improves and he's wanted clearly so he's all potential to do well nick season. I just wonder whether he will be the kind of buying in his head against a brick wall against horses or you know ten twelve points better than Heyman group threes and twos next year he certainly it'd be just this morning not capable of winning a couple of listed races but they'll have higher aspirations for them not might not be quite as easy as it looks because we sometimes talk about the listed group to group three even group one sprints depending on the type of quality that you have in in given seasons as really not being that far off handicap company that you can see horses make the progression from handicaps to even group but certainly the group to group three listed level it. It doesn't always take a huge amount to break into that. I just wonder about this performance if he deserves all the praise in the world and he's beaten not really solid yardstick and growl who second the race in two thousand Sixteen Yada Yada Yada runs his honest race Blah Blah Blah but if Roy Rory's point is absolutely spot on that these races are difficult to win. Steve sometimes they're difficult to back the winner of you often see a big price to winner and they just kind of keep beating themselves and so deliver this horse and his performance where he storms through to mow horses down and think right. They've got him now now. They know what what he is. There's going to be more to come or if that was indeed his day in the song then we should be deleting them from the tracker and looking for something else later in the the season possibly early next season. I think if he was five year old or something like that he yeah you could see that but what he's GonNa law in his favor that in the final easy three zero and he's unexposed over six furlongs. I think I was only is gonNA third run run over six furlongs in in one of those listed racist gesture when he was doing very why and the fact that he's been running round places like Gesta Sta just because he's been running. They're able to win that. When he's been awful a lot lower rating it doesn't mean that he's ideally suited to it and it showed on a straight track what he's put in his best performance so he's unexposed in several facets of is a homeland and he's only three road so you would expect to natural improvement for next season that I wouldn't be surprised if he was up to certainly group three level and the funny thing is with growl finishing second. I think when he finished second a a few years ago he went on to hit the frame in the group one on Champions Day at a massive price so light you say completely agree that the fact that handicappers is instantly inform handicappers winning these big races which on easy to win these big failed handicaps they can find the step up to two certainly group to group one level even easier than it might look at a time when you you think if a whole wins a mile and a half and the recap the Johnson stepping up into Greek ones easily. It's pretty remote. was there anything in behind. Steve that took your fancy with regards regards to possibly the sprintone champions day or for another big handicap either early next season or before the end of the season. was there anything in behind that that AH well there was a few that I thought were interesting. the the problem is with later in the season. Nive the likelihood likelihood of them getting decent grind is pretty unlikely it's not certainly it'll rain from now until the end Italian or certainly in the end of the year but it as a look out the window. It certainly looks well set in and we're GONNA get easy grind prevent. Yes I'm sure but the the two I thought ran better than that position all certainly run really well because they both finished in the first a half dozen aside. Every CBA was one of David Omar's who seemed to miss the break didn't get the clearest run through and also is in that middle middle grind where he was drawn high ironically the winner obviously withdrawn a bit higher but decided to go over to the far side where that the main body of the field race and he was finishing really well and the fact that he didn't get the clearest run through years of host it does like have to have things drop his wife if you go back to his French form and we all know that David Omar is done exceptionally exceptionally well with his friend French imports like glitters and he's group foam in the bag so I think next season we might see a a ever see boat winning one of these handicaps the other one was embar- of Richard Hannon's. I thought he was a bit inconvenience by being right in in the middle when the pacing to be either hard against the fall rail always rory said with them the angel is on the getting a good lead from aged jump by so dynamic didn't seem to be the place you want to be racing in the early stages where both embar-. Anisi Bo came from and I think and then might be right is in them whether it's later on in this seasonal rim early next season was quite a bunch finish as well. Let's say major jumbo actually did well considering. He had to cut out all the donkey

"Churchill getting started would bind with they're the first really too big weekends they also course got the international later in the meet later in the fall and and that brings in some international shippers this woodbine mile just the mile either northern dancer the more you look at it. I thought was was was intriguing and there's plenty of other a lot of stars on the card including Holy Khaleda and pink Loyd. WHO's I I for a horse? That's one like twenty seven in a row. Nobody seems the talk about him or pay much attention to him. Bob Tillers streaking sprinter and here's a streaking sprinter victim Rio depends on where the sprint destination is. I think might Tapei at times but shop racing form a yes to the windows. Definitely Pink Floyd is is really sort of a marvel in terms of how he's performed well routinely I of course needed him to at least be third in this race last year in the contest and finished fifth so the pink floyd stop it will be nowhere near Wreck Stale Ontario and so his chances tomorrow we'll probably increase exponentially. He's in the early. They put the bold venture early on the card actually in fact when I went to the stakes together and put them up Derby Trail Oh. I didn't even look that that early on the card so I didn't even have to go back in fact I don't know if I did go back and put it up but there are a couple couple of very nice horses here including Carlin's honor the Jack Oxley Breezy York good old Yordan approaching half a million dollars for a chiefs would and Stewart Simon you know a lot of your a lot of your local players in the sprint scene but pink Cloyd is now twenty one twenty six and it really was late last year September October that he started to show some some frings signs of tiring and Kinda sputtered out at the end of the year could. Could he be beaten in here. I don't think so no it looks like he's he's back where he needs to be and I don't really know I guess other than Caroline's honor who's supposed to be particularly big threat to him in the spot so he he should get the job done. I mean it's always nice to see good. Horses do Well York than obviously was in much better form coming into this last year having run a good second pink Floyd Royd individual and and that was also during a period of time where pink floyd was having a really hard time getting out of the gate so he's a little ornery for a seven year old gelding and he had a little bit gate trouble really about four or five races in a row going into last year's bold venture he he's not he still not they really particularly the obedient or when it comes to getting out of the gate or being trained for it but he's definitely a little bit better spot with that right now so I think given that he's he's inform and should be sitting right off of the of the pace. If you worked in may be line to the front end. I think he should be okay before we talk about the Canadian the end the grade to which does start the cross country and will incorporate the pebbles and the nightcap at Belmont Nixon thoughts about last week at Belmont. We talked about this Jockey Club Derby and oaks and the Grand Prix. I talked to Andy on Tuesday. The Grand Prix was oddly contest than I thought but some some quick hits on opening the opening salvos at Belmont. I guess guess I'll try and keep it as charitable as possible. Given I took my shots at it last week but I think they played out largely. How we expected decide thought was a pretty impressive winner of the Jockey Club oaks overcoming? I think by all counsel was a pretty negative pace setup and winning is much the best running down Wonderman who I thought probably got a little bit more the run of the race and the American contingent as we expected in that race as well as the Jockey Club Derby were pretty much no shows and it could also be that the American continuing is pretty thin out by now. We'll talk about the pebbles and a little bit but the pebbles is going to be the ninth race for one hundred thousand dollars or more for three year olds fillies on turf going back to June sixth six and that's insane so the ranks of American horses that are ready to go a mile and three eighths early in September. We're really not very not very robust and and that proved out on the lady side and I thought Spanish mission I I actually thought he was totally out of position and thought that he was about to have a Jamie Spencer Special before he was able to overcome it and get the job done so a little bit. I know that the horse was capable of overcoming his writer. I I would imagine he he should be one of the better distant sources that we could potentially see over here next year given that he's going to be off now until the spring and there's just obviously connections that have problems shipping over the Grand Prix North American Jockey Club invitational brought to you by whatever most pretentious name of all time that was one of the most oddly run races I've ever seen first of all. I don't know how the hell everybody knew. Marconi was winning that race for fun and then to watch the riders of both realm and roaming union gather a hold of their horses so strongly almost as if they were waiting for Marconi to catch up and take the lead after he blew the break so that he could go one sixteen flat it was basically sort of the epitome of what we complain about left and right about American American dirt racing right now and you know in this day and age of sort of turf occasion of American racing where everybody points to turf races races are run like turf races. It's almost as if one horse makes the lead all the other guys say okay well. They're the pacesetter we're just GONNA go ahead and sit back and wait for them to come back to us and the majority of the time on the dirt that just doesn't happen even so shockingly Marconi was able to set a pedestrian pace and and went on with it and I I obviously would not have been a big fan of his at the price he went off often. We talked about how it looked like a bit more competitive race on paper the other todd pletcher trainee your to blame. I thought ran pretty well. He was able to stop the pace on the inside but you know I don't y horse like roaming union was in there if he wasn't GonNa GonNa contest the pace especially given that he's from connections like Michelle Navin who generally have a pretty decent idea how to win dirt racist so that was is a little bit of a head scratcher. you know look my personal opinion is that if there's any thought given to this turf triple. I really hope that same amount of money is committed to a dirt program and trying trying to incentivize horsemen to get there and run on dirt more frequently really try and build up the claiming ranks again because it's kind of embarrassing through the first three days of racing. I'm I'm sorry through the first three days of Racing Belmont there were seventy eight horses total entered to run on dirt and there are over seventy eight horses enter to run dirt in the first day at Churchill so I if the same number number of races and and that's that's not good. That's a big big problem that creates a big problem in the winter so that's my hope for it as it is. I guess we'll see probably a little bit better from Spanish mission in the Diese Lisa next year well we turn to Belmont today and into the weekend a couple of very good maiden races actually as part of that card and maybe we'll touch on them but let's let's look at the cross country pick five and it is comprised of of the three three of the stakes would bind the Canadian the mile and the northern dancer that you know you the top of your head. You wouldn't have thought it the three of them were as complex as actually I think they are and then the pebbles and the turf sprint claiming nightcap the eleventh at Belmont so let's start with the Canadian you know this is an interesting field the and really they'll competition. Idea should probably go off a pretty solid favorite. I don't really see how tactically you could make a real stand with her and she's a horseshoe. Obviously needs to lay back and make one run and you know those types generally at the mercy of the pace and this race does not look like it's going to have really any pace speak of so so she's going to have to overcome that now. I will say that you'll Rosario getting back on board to me feels like a very good thing. It does seem like she's just a little bit better horse when he's John Her but now the flip side of that is that we know Joel style. He's GonNa take her back and let her make one run so I mean they're they're going to. There's going to have to be some pace in here that you can't really foresee and I guess the hope is that Dixie moon and or starship do believe maybe show a little bit more speed than they have before. That's if you're back competition of ideas with any great fervor because obviously what this is shaping up as a situation where Holy Helena has a big tactical advantage on the other favorite and and she's been effective at Woodbine in the past. You look good winning the dance smartly last time Jimmy was giving a little bit of time since and I think she's a horse that that will really get the run of the race and and that's GonNa make her toffee. This could be a situation where on your your pick five. You're really leaning on those two pretty heavily and maybe you could give a little bit of a nod holy Helena on one one more additional ticket. I did want to try and make a case for to Riga and my hope is the Tyler Galileo. Maybe a little bit more aggressive with her than Johnny. Velazquez was was last time he finished just length and a half behind the competition of ideas did get into a little bit of trouble amazingly. She got into trouble in the three-horse rates which it happens of course and with a little bit cleaner run maybe second off the off the layoff off the ship in we can see some improvement grim oceans been a little the little laid back with her she she ran on July twentieth didn't work until August thirty first but might be one of those horses that can stay fit without doing that. I I'm always very very in tune and was looking at his horses in these kind of scenarios as they they generally overperform relative to their odds so I'm GonNa go ahead and include Theresa's well the and will include could starship jubilee more than likely those two has backups because I think they each offers some appeal at what should be better prices than the two chalks should note that ah Jimmy Jerkins after sending Holy Elena opt for the dance smartly basically is as left her there and oh my Gosh the stronach trainer but my Woodbine what is yes thank you Mike Doyle. Mike Doyle has been handling and Jimmy is on TV with seth deny after after precision is one and he told the story about Jimmy said he got the notification is it is stable mail all that Holy Helena had worked Labor Day weekend and so gets the notice he opens it up and Airy Jerry Sees Holy Elena six longs one eleven and three Jimmy said got on the phone to this is Mike what's going on up there and he said I really don't worry though or she did it easy. Did it easy the track was the polly was slick. It was cold or whatever yeah what eleven at three and you know what I did. I brought up with Jimmy that great story that is his father told about Bo purple and going out to Hawthorn for the Hawthorne Gold Cup on Tuesday the race as was Saturday and on Tuesday he gets a call from a Chicago sportswriter and said Jerkins. I wanted to ask you for comment about outvote purples work and said what about it. He says well he he he went a mile in one thirty. Two and three Korea broke the track record or mile. I think he went to violent at eight and broke the track record. What what forty seven forty six shades or something and and and Jerkin said you know? I'm sure he'll be fine and sure enough. He went out and won the Gold Cup but that was funny. One one eleven and three

Christine Sinclair (probably) wont play forever. So appreciate her now.

The Big Story

Christine Sinclair (probably) wont play forever. So appreciate her now.

"I she is on a very short list of the greatest, Canadian athletes of all time, second. She would probably never admit she belongs on that list, or actually even discuss that list at all. Third. She has been on the field for some of the most heartbreaking defense. Any Canadian team has ever suffered through to the hip fido's, a comprehensive victory of Canada fulltime book of Canada ill, Frantz four. Finally beginning today after almost twenty years of leading perhaps the best soccer Team Canada has ever fielded Christine Sinclair has a chance to reach heights that would have been unimaginable. When she began her career Sinclair is thirty six now, she's been Canada's rock for ever, this might be her last women's World Cup. And it might be Canada's best ever chance to hoist the trophy and it might be our last chance to appreciate a woman who has never talked much never cared about stats never wind about the refs never done anything, but play, great soccer, and she is now poised to become perhaps the best ever at that task. I'm Jordan heath Rawlings. And this is the big story Canada's first game and the women's World Cup comes today against Cameroon. So we figured it was time to talk to Stephen brunt of sports net was covered these World Cups for years, Stephen start with just who is Christine Sinclair, where did she come from? What's her origin story? Well, she's from the lower mainland BC. She comes from soccer playing family her to her uncle's played professionally with the Portland at an earlier incarnation of the Portland timbers her dad played. She played as a kid, and, you know, she played other sports as well. But as a was a prodigy Ritchie cows, cap for Canada as a sixteen year old, it does astounds me how, you know, we're, we're talking about the early days of the sport in the country, like candidate didn't have a women's national team till nineteen Eighty-six. Yeah, yes. She played in the ninety five world or the ninety four World Cup. Right. Those game lake back. Then it was if people are soccer people. They will understand what I'm saying. Here's like old time, English soccer like vertical. So. Correct. Big kick, it down the field and the strongest and tallest and fittest would run underneath it, it was dominated by countries that could do that played that way. But it was also dominated by countries that put money into women's sport before other countries did, which is a pattern we've seen a lot, right? Like early success in Olympic women's rowing, for instance, was because we invested in it in nineteen nothing away from those great athletes, but we got on that bandwagon before a lot of other countries said in soccer even a lot of traditional soccer countries declined to invest in the women's game. There was a level of chauvinism in the in the soccer cultures so that, you know, the Brazil's and the Spain's and the Italy's they, they didn't do anything women's soccer, but Germany, did and Norway and Sweden did and we did to a degree. We were we were kind of early adapters in terms of women's soccer and the Americans did after title. Nine rank title nine was huge right into created opportunities for for collegiate athletes. So those were the countries that dominated early and but that was what they was a power game. You know power game of fitness game. And you know in assize game really strength game. How did Christine Sinclair make her Mark on that game on this team? When did she come to one to Candida notice her, I would think I guess the U twenty tournament gonna remember sales change. They change it from nineteen to twenty remediate offered was the tournament in Edmonton, where the golden generation, they, they got to the finals loss to the Americans, a recurring theme here, but played in front of forty thousand plus people in Edmonton to Commonwealth stadium too big TV ratings, so Kara Lang, and most Creedy and, and sink. You know, we're part of that team and his golden generation of Canadian women country embrace them in a way that it hadn't I don't think it'd embrace the soccer team male or female before we men's team that you know got the World Cup and eighty six and they won the Gold Cup and under Hoeger, but I don't think candidate had ever cared about soccer as much as they cared about that team that played in Edmonton. So that was kind of her debut for the Comanche was the most valuable player high-score most valuable player in that tournament. So, you know, and then she joined the national where she played for the national team and. After that, again, with people like Charmaine Hooper, who is a great athlete in her own, right. And the they, you know, they have a fourth place finish the World Cup people then forget that, that they, they did finish fourth, but, you know, I think what really started to put things on the map was what, what came later and end know and the evolution of the of the game and the pollution of the players will it's kind of a chicken or the egg situation because you had Christine Sinclair in his golden generation that kind of took over that team and dragged it in front of everybody watching. And then once you know that it can do good TV ratings, and people are really going to care. It becomes a lot easier to recruit talent bring on sponsors, and all the rest of it that puts you a little bit further ahead. Yeah. In parallel to that. The game is getting more sophisticated evolving, or changing in, in a way that soccer people found pleasing like I was kind of separate myself because I've covered soccer for a long time. But I you know, soccer people I was considered me an outsider. So I, I always kind of separate myself, but that the people who would kind of disdain women's football women. Soccer started to see the ball being played on the ground. More you know more of a passing game as a more sophisticated version of the game and started to kind of give it its due. So those things happen at the same time one is that. Yeah, you have golden generation of Canadian players coming through who had succeeded on stage, a very popular stage, anyway. And at the same time, you had women's soccer getting new respect, of course, you had that explosion with the Americans right where, you know, brandy Chastain and all of that. You know, it became a big deal in the United States. Yes. Also, the breakthrough from American soccer, you know, if you think about it, the US men's national team was pretty good for a long time. But what was the breakthrough for soccer in the US? It was the women you absolutely the women describe that scene because you probably, it's probably embedded in your memory of brandy Chastain. And that's the only thing I remember that time. Yeah, we scored the winning goal and, and stripped off her jersey was wearing a sports bra and had like an eight-pack ill. She's absolutely ripped. Right. Looks like I think it was it was a moment of empowerment for a whole bunch of. People. And I think for a whole bunch of young girls watching it was, I wanna be her. Yeah. I wanna play that game because it was, you know, it wasn't dainty. It was ferocious. It was competitive. It was passionate there were. And there are a lot of great things about women's soccer. Well, and in Canada. It's the women are better. They have men's team and it by an order of magnitude. We could qualify that say the pool shallower again. We were earlier that there is. We, we probably put more emphasis on what you see now is that, you know, England's good now in the Nederlands is getting good is against some of these other soccer countries are kind of saying, hang on, we'll Spain suddenly pretty good. But yeah, I think in Canada, they had the success and be, I think people did start the kind of tune into the fact that someone who might be the best player in the world play for us. So tell me about her that because you've covered her for while now what is Sinclair, like she's known, at least to me and casual observers for being pretty closed off. Oh, yeah. You mean per as a person as a person as an athlete? How, how is she what drives her she's super shy? She doesn't like doing interviews a drink press stuff. If you talk to her teammates tell you, she's not shy that she got a great sense of humor, which she does. But she just just playing that the public role. I remember once I went down to interview her when I was still the globe and mail. She was playing for the, the western New York flash. Again, you know, the leagues have come and gone. Right. But one of those down near buffalo somewhere, and they having an open workout for kids. And I was driving down from the globe. And I'd set it up through Canadian soccer to do this interview I think goes before the twenty seven World Cup. So it looks a low pressure environment is what I'm saying, and it's going to be a nice story and I got stuck in a little bit of traffic at the border. So I got there about three minutes before the interview was supposed to happen. But I was, you know, phony, people telling you, look, I'm coming, right? Look, she was in her car, and she was going to leave. She was honored. I almost had to throw myself in front of her car because she didn't want to do it. She just didn't want to do the interview, and it was, you know, as an awkward interview, and there wasn't much to it, and I've been persistent, I guess with her to try and get a little bit. And I have huge Marijn for as an athlete. So maybe that's part of it as well. But yeah, she's never going to be somebody who talks and soundbite. She's never going to be somebody who kind of thrown horn. It's just not in her. She's, you know, again, MBA seen her. She is a passionate ferocious competitor. And she does have a sense of humor, but it's hard to get past, you know, the veneer, sometimes why did you work so hard to get past that veneer? You know, I think a lot of it goes back to that twenty eleven World Cup which I'm sure we're gonna talk about. But I covered the tell me about the twenty eleven World Cup. You know, key so candidate went into Germany twenty seven World Cup is in Germany and Canada. There's a sense that candidate could be competitive in this turnament, sorta like now, you maybe none, as they maybe expectations weren't quite where they are now but they were pretty darn high. And that was the, you know, the, the moment for that golden generation of players. Right side from Carlisle, who got hurt that, that was that group this, and this was there, a moment and Canada had hired an Italian to coach the team. Caroliina Mirage, and the whole idea was that this was the country's, there's, like finishing school that she was going to teach them more sophisticated tactics and European training methods and this is gonna turn us into a footballing nation rather than soccer h nerve footballing team rather than a soccer team. And Caroline was an interesting like a character from fiction, you know, and they had this whole group of Italian trainers in the system coaches, and there was much intense talk and smoking cigarettes. And speaking of Italian, and she took them off to a training camp. They went to some hotel in, in the mountains in Italy. And we're locked off by themselves and trained and all of this, when you talk to them after the facts, you know. So it sounds like a prison camp. But it sounds nice now but it wasn't fun. But they all say the right stuff that okay, we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna we're way. Better way. More sophisticated. We're gonna play you know, we're we're going to our game has she is we have learned enormous amounts Mer. The opening game is against Germany in Berlin at the Olympic stadium. They know they're going to lose that game. Everybody knows he'll lose that game but they, you know, they compete and sink scores. A goal on a on a free kick. I think not a penalty free kick, but she also gets hit in the nose and breaks her nose spewing blood. And it was real was, you know in this there goes the tournament. Right. So so caroliina Marashi again, who is she was very much into intrigue in whispered conversations? I'm covering this for the globe. And for sports that we were the rights holders I was as close to any team. I think as I've ever been and there's been there. Many whispered conversations was she going to play and they wouldn't let her talk to the media, and she was. Wearing this like the mass that basketball players wherever they break their now.

Costa Rica, United States And Mexico discussed on ESPN FC

"Are a few pieces there. It's all by Dan going. So let's switch really quickly. Let's talk about Costa Rica. Yes, you scored the goal that sent your team to the World Cup. And then you your shirt off, and you root it for all the rest of America and the United States because you couldn't play against Panama. Thanks a lot. And then you let Tori score because you weren't on the field talk to us about that goal. It was about what you saw that game. Man when they saw that game. It was hilarious. It was crazy. Just watching the people from Panama celebrate in. There's no way that about went in notes. Johns nothing the referee knew that the ballgame. But under that pressure. He'd better blew it. You're going to be in trouble that strike the right now in the pecking order of coca coffee. It's it's I put Mexico you guys are there. And then the US are down. You guys are of course on that. He ks the second no worse than the second. Best team in CONCACAF. Yeah. To be on. We we want to get in on level that we can't compete against any team against team from Europe. But to to get in that stage in that level. We know we have to be better in everything. Like now looking for to the Gold Cup. We want to win. It will never win it before. So we want to start like that. How are the kids are the the young Costa Rican? Do you see those good? Coming up. There's good. But then show linguists, right? You talk about this potential Costa Rica, you talk about Mexico being top. What does I argue for a long time? Costa Rica didn't have maybe that next level and Major League Soccer has given them that next level to develop what have you seen or what have you back home set about Major League Soccer what they can seize the competition that we have here. The speed that different players that we play against because it's not the same. If you play your contract liens the same people every weekend. But when you come here, you're playing play against a lot of players. Different type of players that you got you have to open your mind on you're gonna learn a lot of things when I hear teammates, captain. But I he's a free agent right now. And we heard his name mentioned a lot of Major League Soccer team. All yes. Very good flair his style. Just to put type he can't play in Cincinnati. Okay. You can't say Cincinnati tackled style at Brian has pick one team where you think do well consolidated Kansas City, bring it altogether ten amid wheel. Why? Ways that immediately. Because when was put in the question to get I was just thinking. What about him? Makeup. Espinosa rogers. I think that would do a great combination. I want go back to the World Cup when when you found out the United States didn't qualify. How did that make you feel because you know, the US busy was a bully for a bit to see them skip out that to that. You weren't you weren't you weren't crying knows really won't cry. I I wasn't happy us. Well, right now because I was only thinking in Costa Rica when you saw Panama you were happy for them to the first Brighton. So I can't imagine they're they're feeling. So that will make me happy about by qualifying Todo workup. It's you bring up an interesting thing. Mexico's obviously the strongest Mississippi Auricle team in CONCACAF. And but now you see the United States. What do you think happened to the United States that made them not qualify? Did you see Geordie see it happened?
