"He had that he took a phone call from tying when the president of Taiwan he's also in the last couple of months sent his health and human Services Secretary Alex A. Zara's well as the undersecretary of state, Keith Kratch, made trips to Taiwan. And also Kelly Craft, the ambassador to the United Nations. I guess the question is how big a deal is this well on any other week, it would be huge news. You and I have lived in Taiwan over the past three decades. We know the sensitive relationship that the United States has with Taiwan as well as how it plays with China. This is not something that China will take lightly at all We've already seen Backlashes from state media, calling it a cowardly act of sabotage on the part of Mike Pompeo and, you know, final Show of madness, ongoing, ongoing comments from the likes of who She didn't, the editor in chief of the global Times, But again what the United States is doing is they're going to scrap, you know all contact guidelines. With Taiwan for US officials so diplomats, servicemen other officials can make contact with their Taiwanese counterparts. And again. This is something that in other administrations would not. Hold and we have to see in 9 10 days from now, whether what what the Biden administration's policy on Taiwan would be. I'm guessing they might uphold the one China policy a little bit stronger than Trump has Yeah, I guess it puts a lot of pressure on the Biden administration because this is sort of U. S official policy from the State Department. And obviously there's a lot of strength in the State Department. It goes beyond just who's leading it. So that might have been some advisory on this. What would be the process than for the Biden administration to come in? Would they put it under review and look at it, Or would they just flip it back? If I did they wanted to. Well, I think they could just flip it back, couldn't they? That's what I would assume. Or they would put out a directive saying we are Putting our contact guidelines with Taiwanese counterparts in place, or they will review it as they will be reviewing just about every executive order coming from Donald Trump. What this opens the specter of his Is this an attempt in the waning days of the Trump administration to move the dial further. On unofficial US Taiwanese ties to more official like ties, which again would anger Beijing to, you know the degree because who's he didn't again had already just Put out a tweet, which was subsequently deleted. I might add. He tweeted that you know Beijing consent fighter jets over Taiwan any time it wants, And he said this starts the countdown on the survival of the Taiwan government. Yeah, We don't have enough time to really sink our teeth into this, Steve because relations air are so poor at the moment between the US and China anyway that an incoming administration might might accept this. They may just stick with it. We'll have to wait and see. Ant Group's I.P.O. Is Halted by Shanghai Stock Exchange

"Some tension between the Shanghai Stock Exchange on the listing of an financial so much tension, in fact of a regulatory issues that on financials listing will not be going ahead on that particular exchange now understanding that the Hong Kong exchange is set to make an announcement. On and Hong Kong Lis think this, according to business news. That's a report at the moment, at least a remarkable turn of events in just the past 60 years alone. Yeah, I got to say this is fascinating again because we talk about tech regulation in the US not so much in China, but they're cracking down, particularly on the financial sector, trying to make some of theon line lenders hold more capital. And perhaps not as easily raise money through asset backed securities to finance consumer loans. There is a fear of stoking perhaps financial unrest. Should there be some instability on the financial system and John just to put this into context? This $34.5 billion AIPO, the world's largest, what was set to start trading on Thursday. Had $3 trillion of retail bids of retail demand coming in. This is going to be incredibly hot among the rank and file in China High button issue interesting to see what actually transpired in some of these meetings. So this would go one of two ways. I guess, Tom, either you recalibrate the listing in Hong Kong. You go bigger. They're just things or the whole thing gets pulled. I think probably people leading towards the former and not the latter. At the moment. You know what I would partition here? John is the idea of a financial calculus. Okay, the price this years we want a piece of the action and that Or is it more about an unrest over the structural calculus? This headline from the Global Times and group to readjust listed businesses valuation? I get the valuation part that sort of Wall Street E. But the listed businesses to readjust John is this about a strategic structure. Or is it simply about a financial pricing? I don't know. I don't know either. I'm looking for the clarity. Testing Positive: Coronavirus Contact Tracing at the White House

"Have some breaking news this morning just. President trump and first lady melania trump testing positive for the corona virus the president tweeting just before one am that he and the first lady will begin their quarantine and recovery process. Immediately, we got a lot more on the next steps for the White House and testing others who may have been exposed from Dr Scott Gottlieb. But before we do that, I want to get straight to image Jabar's. In Washington, who has been working this story all night and has the latest for us. Amen. This news began to unfold last night with a report that hope Hicks. One of the president's closest aides on his campaign had tested positive for the coronavirus. Then there was a period of time where we did not know what the president status was but hope. is obviously a close personal. Contact with the president on a regular basis, and in fact, she's been in close personal contact with a number of senior administration officials over just over the past week traveling with him out to venues into the presidential debate take a look at this list that NBC News is put together of all of the people inside the White House who had been in contact with hope. Hicks just this week on this travel more than twenty officials here who've been seen with hope. Hicks. Not necessarily always wearing a mask touching some of the same handles as they go up the stairs to air, Force One obviously on. The plane moving around all of those people will now have to be contact traced and tested, and you can imagine the scale of the effort that is unfolding inside the White House. This morning as they try to figure out who has been exposed, who has covid where this is all going to land meanwhile, the president defending himself earlier in the week remember that debate on Tuesday, the president was asked about his decision to continue holding large in-person rallies a lot of these rallies where the the people in attendance did not wear masks. The president said he simply had to continue on the campaign trail. Here's that moment. In any case why you holding the big rallies y you not? For her because people want to hear what I have to say well so far we have had no problem whatsoever it's outside that's a big difference according to the experts we do them outside. We have tremendous crowds as you see, I mean every and literally in twenty four hours notice and Joe does the circles and has three people someplace. And now we're getting international reaction rolling in guys as well. Take a look at this tweet. This is from who sesion. Here's the editor of Global Times in China and viewed as somebody who is very close with the Chinese government in Beijing. Often tweets reflections of their views on the world. He is tweeting this morning president trump and the first lady have paid the price. For his gamble to play down the covid nineteen, the news shows the severity of the US is pandemic situation. It will impose a negative impact on the image of trump and the US and may also negatively affect his reelection. So many unanswered questions here guys in terms of the campaign, the stimulus, the battle for the supreme. Court. All of those ongoing right now clearly, campaigning activities will not. Be Able to continue on the president's side as normal for some weeks. Now, no word yet from the Biden campaign about what their plans are in terms of the stimulus it's sort of an unknown at this point how this will affect those negotiations which are ongoing as we speak, and then in terms of the Supreme Court, it's likely that Congress will still continue to push forward but. Everybody involved in that process will also have to be contact traced and tested as well to make sure that anyone who has come in contact with the president over the past week including amy, Coney Barrett herself. The president's nominee for the Supreme Court gets a negative test before moving forward guy. So a lot of moving parts of this morning aiming before you go, let's just walk through. The contact tracing and what the circle might look like in terms of who has been in contact with the president. Obviously, the Biden campaign given the debate You mentioned the Supreme Court nominee how big a circle are we talking about here? Well, it's been a limited circle in recent months. They have made efforts to keep the president out of contact with as many people as possible but. It's still you know dozens of people who come in contact with the president on on a regular basis you know there's a hundred people are more flying on Air Force One at any given time including all the staff aides, military folks and everybody else involved in that process, and we've seen the president on Air Force One, a couple of times just this week and hope Hicks we know. was on Air Force One without a mask this week as well. So it's a large number of people I would imagine there are hundreds of people here who are going to be implicated. There's a lot of detail here to be gone through and you can imagine health officials the secret service capital police a whole range of other authorities in Washington are scrambling aggressively this morning to figure. Out what the damages and to contain it as best as possible,

"And at this point pole should probably keep an eye on the markets. For Pretty regular look and see what's actually happening in the markets and Perhaps he could take it away. Absolutely. So, just looking here. It's kind of ugly out there again again. Trading down that 3% on the Dow off 800 points 2.5% on the S and P and the NASDAQ off 2.3% Right now it's time to talk to our good friends of Bloomberg opinion on and we will talk to them coming up first. Shelly Banjo senior writer for Bloomberg. Getting us the latest on what's going on with Tic Tac and Shelly. Thanks so much for joining us here, But I have to be honest. I'm kind of confused here. I thought the initial expectation here was that President Trump was saying, Hey, you have to sell your U. S operations or we're going to close it. But that's not what's happening here, is it? No, and I don't think you're the only one confused. It's been a roller coaster of a ride with chicks. Talking is still going so definitely we don't have a done deal yet. But the Trump Trump came out over the weekend and gave his blessing to a deal on the table. I'm what Trump had initially asked for is an outright sale of tic tac toe to a US to an American company. And as well as a cut to the U. S. Treasury. You know money as it's been referred to, so neither of those things happened. What deal we actually ended up getting so far on the table is one in which by the Chinese parent of Tic Tac Maintains a majority stake in the company of a cock and 20% of this new company. Up to 20% of the new company will be owned by Why Wal Mart and buy Oracle with the hopes of doing a pre AIPO fundraising round and then listening, doing an appeal on the American exchange in about a year. So complicated, and China hasn't even agreed. In fact, last I heard Well, we did get the headline this morning. The Global Times is reporting that China is not going to accept the deal the way it is, but previously the last I had heard from China was that they'd rather kill off the U. S operations of TIC Tac than sellers. Yeah, I mean, just like everybody else. It's gone up and down with China as well. You know, Global times is an interesting example because over the weekend, the editor and she came out and said, You know, this isn't great. But, you know, I think this is something trying to kick in stomach and then over the over just the last hour tweeted to say You know, this is not actually something that that trying to can accept. And so you know, we're in the stage where the words they're going back and forth like a tennis match. And, you know, right now, the company stuck in between. All of this is course Tic tac. So, Shelly. I mean, clearly there are reasonable arguments to be made as relates to national security and what data the Chinese may or may not be gathering about US consumers. Does this deal address that at all? So most of the national security and privacy experts that we've spoken to over the last few years left two days. Sorry, has said that this doesn't address that, but it was really about national security. Then it really wouldn't matter that picked up was creating 25,000 jobs as Trump had a headset over the weekend, and none of those things would really enter into the discussion. I'm Site, including Oracle as a technology partner. What that does is it gives Oracle access to look at the source code and look at the algorithms, but it doesn't give them ownership of it. And so it kind of monitor it. And you know that too many national security experts. It's just not enough to really identify a threat. If there if there is one It's so strange because it's effectively an administration picking the companies that are allowed access to this information, right. So we know that other companies were interested, but it's Oracle on Walmart. Now that are the chosen to Shelly. Have you ever seen this before? No. I mean the issue with other companies that were interested like Microsoft was that they got in them to the game when they thought it was gonna be an all out failed. They said, Yeah, of course you want to own this asset, You know, only this popular company. But when it became clear that it would just become a partnership, Microsoft, you know, didn't end up didn't end of actually wanting to go much further, and my fans The same way they couldn't reach an agreement. And so you know all of this chair kicking of companies and banning them and things like that is just completely completely unprecedented in the US, particularly for social media companies. So shall we just real quickly here is this expected to close? Well, I think there's still a few hurdles that have to happen. I mean, Trump was the biggest one and gave his you know, using his words gave his blessings over the weekend, but it's anything but done deal. There's a lot of moments, um, within the administration to get this across the finish line. But again, a lot of these things could be delayed. You know, Donald Trump put out this is all being done. You know, the executive order put out another delay. He Khun delay it again. You know, we can keep going with these delays until after the president election And then who knows what happened? Okay, Shelly. Thank you so much for doing this. We really appreciate you coming on and sharing your knowledge here of this ever changing issue here? Shelley, Banjo senior writer for Blubber, Tic Tac. Oracle will deal happen. Will it really be material to national security? We will see right now. It's head down in Washington, D. C for World and National headlines.

Giga Texas Timeline Update, and the TSLA stock rebound

"Everybody. Robin our here, and today is kind of a Giga Day. We have news from gigafactory Shanghai Gigafactory, Texas gigafactory New York, and then we'll talk a little bit more about lucid ahead of their livestream unveil of the lucid air tonight, and of course, the stock which we can start out with dessel stock on the day to day finishing up eleven percent to three hundred, sixty, six dollars twenty eight cents on the back of a rising macaroni Environment Nasdaq for the day up two point seven percent. So as I said, yesterday, I, hate, stop-loss orders. This is exhibit a for why that is as Tesla today without much news swung back significantly in the. Other. Direction. That's really my only thought on the stock today. So let's move into the news. There was an interesting post this morning on Tesla Motors Clubs Forum by Ridge. Twenty twenty about a possible time line for Tesla's gigafactory in Texas. This user writes quote have some information on the tear factory build schedule. Tesla is sourcing how vendors slash contractors to bid on work at the site and quote this user then shares some screen shots presumably of some documents involved in that bidding, the most interesting of which lays out a project schedule in that project schedule not a first substantial completion date of May I twenty twenty one according to the American Institute of Architects. Substantial completion is quote the stage in the progress of the work when the work or designated portion thereof is sufficiently complete in accordance with the contract documents so that the owner can occupy or utilize the work for its intended use and quote the schedule also notes that the first dry in what happened on December thirtieth twenty twenty I xdrive just means that everything is sort of sealed up with the building shell so that interior work can commence without having to be exposed to the elements, and then in a separate page here that has also included. There's a more detailed schedule noting that in September they'll be doing things like underground electrical, mechanical plumbing, etc.. October would be fencing porta-pottys waste removal metals, recycling recycling removal, and then November would be architectural interiors which based on the dry and date assume would be non weather sensitive into your stuff. So obviously take this for what it's worth. It has just forum posts, but the documents to me look like they would be pretty legitimate I. Don't think there's a ton of reason to doubt it. I. Think for those of us that follow closely this would be pretty much in line with our expectations. This will be going from breaking ground to possibly production ready in under a year which we know Tesla is targeting based on their work active factory Shanghai originally and now With gigafactory Berlin as well. Speaking of Shanghai Tesla continues to make rapid progress at the gigafactory. They're the global times earlier. This Week reported that Tesla has completed the main section of phase two, which is for the Mata why and they write quote at present interior decoration and electromechanical testing being carried out and are expected to be completed on schedule in October and November and quote not exactly sure what interior decoration needs to be carried out and completed. I'm guessing that's probably something that's lost in translation probably more equivalent you interior design meaning, functional interior design. But regardless, we continue to see these reports about phase two in Shanghai though the Global Times appears. To also expect production to begin for the Monterey in one though they do cite other media reports on that which we have talked about. Personally, I'm still expecting some motto is to come out of gigafactory Shanghai. This you're probably not enough to be immaterial to quarterly results or the financials but more. So again, sign heading into twenty twenty one which cannot believe were that close to you already shifting back to the US and over to the energy side of the business with Peissel's gigafactory. In New, York a different type of gigafactory Tesla. Roddy today posted an article with the headline of quote vessel energy ramps hiring AC in New York for accelerated solar production and. Quote you on did actually re tweet this article in which Tesla Roddy writes quote a source familiar with the matter who spoke to Tessa. Roddy talk to employees at the plant who indicated the facility is currently operating on a twenty four hour schedule six days a week to keep up with demand. Altogether, this move seems to confirm the eighty eight acre location is accelerating solar production and installation insignificant way which coincides with the company's growth and the energy sector and quote while energy storage has definitely grown historically solar has actually been quite slow Tusla recently, which I think was correctly pointed out by Gordon Johnson in our bowl baird debate. So if we go. Back to two, thousand, seventeen, for example, cutie, Tesla deployed one, hundred, seventy, six megawatts of solar energy versus this most recent you only twenty seven megawatts of solar. There are a lot of reasons for that. The business model has shifted significantly but right now it's not at the point that at once what's Tesla's hope? Of course is that the solar roof changes that about which started in their cute you letter that quote solar roof installations roughly tripled in Q. to compare to key one, we continue to expand our installation team to increase the deployment rate and quote of course, this is a new product so to starting from a very low base for Tesla from. But hopefully, that growth rate continues we've also recently seen tesla cut their prices significantly for rooftop solar. Now, offering the lowest price systems in the United States at least at a dollar forty, nine per watt after incentives under cutting other systems and the US by about thirty percent on average. So plenty of reasons to be hopeful that Tesla is on the precipice returning to growth for the solar business and are on their way to finding a business model that works for them consistently for solar going forward. Next today on into provide an update to yesterday's discussion on delivery wait times. I've seen a few comments noting that those have changed for people today they have actually changed for me as well. So the model y currently sets for the all wheel drive version at seven to eleven weeks for me here in the Midwest two to four weeks for the performance for the Model S. and the Model X. Both of those currently sit at eight to twelve weeks versus yesterday's ten to fourteen. Weeks and the model three has held steady for all trims at two to four weeks.

President Trump Holds Press Briefing On China and WHO

"Begin with the latest out of DC following a news conference with President Trump. This afternoon where he ratcheted up the rhetoric on China and the World Health Organization. Let's go to Kayla Tashi in Washington Kayla there. The White House took an opportunity to redouble. Its hard line on China by very clearly outlining some policy positions that have been telegraphed previous administration officials in recent weeks in a policy package unveiled today the president said the US would be revoking visas for students and researchers with Chinese military ties the US would be studying accounting practices for possible delisting of Chinese companies. They'd be eliminating special treatment of Hong Kong and severing ties from the World Health Organization. Chinese officials ignored their reporting obligations to the World Health Organization and pressured the World Health Organization to mislead the world when the virus was first discovered by Chinese authorities. Countless lives have been taken in profound economic. Hardship has been inflicted all around the globe. The president stopped short of disrupting the phase. One trade deal or sanctioning top party officials even so the event was immediately panned by China. Who's global times? Newspaper called it a recklessly arbitrary move that builds on trump's bullying tactics and says the US will pay a hefty price for specifically any change in Hong Kong as for the move on the World Health Organization. Not everyone in. The President's Party was pleased with that. Lamar Alexander Tennessee Republican and the top Republican on the Senate Health Committee Put out a statement saying this thing. Certainly there needs to be a good hard look at mistakes. The World Health Organization might have made in connection with the corona virus. But the time to do that is after the crisis has been dealt with not in the middle of it and these broadsides come during the ramp up rhetoric in the election season that is just getting underway and is building up steam campaign officials. Say expect the heat to get turned up on this rhetoric going into November. Even if many of these policy actions are held in the wings until after the election is over with Sarah but one thing is very clear. Many strategists see this election as a referendum on president trump president trump in it sees China as a popular opponent

"China finally responding to a U. China lowers expectations for U.S. trade talks after blacklist: officials

"Begin with relations between the US and China continuing to deteriorate just the day before trade negotiations resume after blacklisting eight Chinese tech companies the US is now slapping visa bans on officials link to the mass detention of Muslims in China we get the latest from Bloomberg Selena weighing in Beijing the mood going into these trade talks could be worse the timing is quite provocative it's no or they were just days away from the trade talks and this is the first significant public step by major world government to take action against Beijing on these alleged human rights violations inching John which the U. N. has said as many as one million ethnic Uighurs and Muslims have been detained in the region while China has defended itself by saying that this is part of its legitimate counterterrorism efforts and since this news has come out to this alleged violations have been put front and center on the global stage and this is the last thing China wants to be highlighted in the public fear the travel ban rattled investors late yesterday sending the S. and P. five hundred lower by one and a half percent despite that travel ban and blacklist China is still open to a partial trade deal that's according to an official with direct knowledge of the talks meanwhile Chinese state media offers low expectations for tomorrow's negotiations Bloomberg market strategist David Finnerty has more there's an editorial in the global times newspaper which is out of China I mean if they keep the phone into a common theme to one of the attitudes the US is not sincere the mutual distrust is increasing and that's with a voice for China so I think when it come out of this nothing be resolved I think president trump level ratchet up tennis title retaliate building going so I think she I think president trump will be the one who watch will blink first I think the reason being is that stock market does start to down take I think he called a forty gun selection with that going down and I think he knows that himself Bloomberg news has learned officials in Beijing would accept a limited trade agreement as long as no more tariffs are imposed by president shrub including two rounds of higher levy set to take effect this month in in December and the Financial Times reports China is offering to buy an extra ten billion dollars of

"Branson could put a British flag up there I guess right yes yeah you know as as we talk the whole trade deal with China we've reported the good news and the good economic news when it's been out there for example consumer spending and also the bad news reported for example that manufacturing in August again had contracted to different reports showing that the manufacturing has contracted and that in July the service sector was still expanding but at its lowest rate of expansion I believe was in in in three years which was a concern well some good news yesterday yeah the service sector which is the I. S. Sam's non manufacturing purchasing manner managers index rose to fifty six point four in August from fifty three point seven in July economists surveyed by the Wall Street journal had expected the index to increase slightly a reading above fifty indicates expansion while reading below that level indicates contraction according to the I assume the service sector is expanded four hundred fifteen straight months as of August. in contrast compared to the manufacturing sector which strength shrank for the first time in three years last month now the service sectors like restaurants banks things like that right right. consulting firms are employment growth in the services industry softened in August though from the month prior according to the eyes some report. but none the less it went up and the concert was in July after went down to a three year low is that it would keep heading in that direction it didn't happen in August right so when you're talking about look if we if we know about it we're we're open to the world in China knows about it so we have you know again when we bring you economic news it's not our opinion. and it's not based on politics but it's one of the numbers that are actually coming out there from Wall Street and the government what are the actual numbers mean that everybody realized the eighty P. numbers coming out on Thursday yesterday a hundred ninety five thousand private sector jobs were created and month in the month of August. that's good did the prediction was for one fifty actually I think it was lower than that let me double check was for one forty two well a very I think the average was one roughly one fifty but none the less one ninety five from ATP and then the unemployment report later this morning which will happen what in about a little over five hours from now we'll see if that drives with the eighty P. numbers if that's better than expected let's see if I can get man okay. the median forecast according to market watch is one seventy on the unemployment report we'll see if the it hits that that forecast or about again AT P. was above one ninety five was the real number the real report and it was expected to be around one forty five or one fifty so if if there is that up tick I in going back to the trade and I guess holding in the the the trade talks with China. if there is if if the market is taking a pause a breeder right now and the word I guess start circulating you're not gonna have a tremendous amount of investment but certainly business still needs to carry on we're not in a recession we're not in a you know it's it's not at a down point yet but we see these signs that point to negative news negative not negative growth but negative increases I guess in in certain data reports so the problem for the administration and I think they see this clearly assuming that the assessment. from the one editor. at what the global times. that the that the US is worn down the administration is worn down by the trade wars with China and that means they're basically they're the weaker one at the table. there's no doubt the political pressure is in play you see a deal happen as you mentioned the theory imagine they actually get something done and get it. signed sealed and delivered by the end of October you could see a pretty huge run going into the rest of the fourth quarter of course but then into twenty twenty and. we could see what we saw in twenty seventeen to a large extent with that kind of growth as the administration as the new administration the trump administration was coming into power and policies were chain right. look if there's a if there's a China deal you have it you have a do you basically have a deal but the fact is it's not the the trade deal isn't passed by Congress at that point no so what you do is you just you go back to the way that it was a terrorist or just off yes with the VA and and whether whether you would say the country's would agree to everything in principle without even have been passed by Congress just like U. S. MCAD just like U. S. M. C. exactly we we would if you call just a people believe it's already in effect and that nafta is gone right and that's not the case they have to still exist today US MCA has not been had known as nafta two point oh has still not been passed but you know without the concern is I mean and I think it's October first China supposed to throw in more tears no no no is the United States we're we're up being some of the terrorists yes the other day yeah yeah yeah I got it out right all those tears on on on on one group of products is going to and cried to goes up five five percent so I for I forgot which group it is but there's another increase coming on October first we haven't yet in the third quarter and fourth quarter because in most likely the terror said that had been put on now are the ones that hit on August first and then read the retaliation not it we're going to feel that the fourth quarter in the first quarter of next year if a deal isn't done but when we talk about deals are going to play this year because you when I said nobody's talked about what is the compromising positions. eight you know their discussion really hasn't had been had specifically I want to go this is a discussion going on on CNBC for example just to give our you know everybody an example of the discussions going on even from the economic people okay and this is Kristen Hooper invesco chief global market strategist and Bob stingy global macro and market strategist there were on squawk on the street on C. "Again, let's take a look at what the trading day in the Asia Pacific colts for his his Ryan. I would say it was fairly uneventful rish if you look at the markets, particularly Wall Street down, dusty -als down fourteen points so less than a tenth of a percent, similar losses for the S and P five hundred. And the NASDAQ was actually down less than one point. I had seventy eight twenty two President Trump identified the main obstacle to China trade accord, saying it's me, we'll bring you details on that in a moment. And in China, the global times, editor in chief, who sure Jin said that Beijing is not easing up on countermeasures that echoes, what one of our guests told us yesterday president she he's actually gaining in popularity in China because of standing up to President Trump US stocks. We mentioned they moved a little bit lower, but not in a dramatic fashion. Treasuries drifted little higher, but not in a dramatic fashion ten year yields actually just Justin one basis point down right now. The ten year two point one four percent, WTI cooed trading at fifty to eighty seven gold was little changed right now at thirteen thirty Troy ounce and Asian futures are mostly in the red. Although Australian futures are showing gains of two tents of. One percent over to you. I look at what's happening today in Hong Kong with the standoff over the planned extradition, law and plan strikes today. Jonathan Fenby is managing director at Lombard. He says these events are posing a basic exit stencil question for those living doing business and investing in Hong Kong's financial markets it sits in a quasi capitalist niche that and that's what people in Hong Kong thought was going to be the case from nine hundred ninety seven. Now that wondering whether, whether it is seen in Beijing as just another big Chinese city. We'll have the very latest on Hong Kong. When we check global news in a moment or two with our Ed Baxter rish, right? We do have the first big financial casualty of this uprising in process. Golden financial dropping his successful one point four billion dollar bid for a land, positon KAI. Tak in Kowloon. Let's get details from Bloomberg's Yvonne man threes. -secutive directors and three independent directors at the company have voted in an urgent board meeting to withdraw the tender, and they're citing recent social contradiction and economic instability, that could negatively affect Hong Kong's commercial property market worth mentioning, though, that the chairmen Punxsutawney voted to stick with the tender. He says the current situation won't affect the market's long-term growth prospects. Backing out it will forfeit a non refundable, five million dollar deposit pay to Hong Kong government in Hong Kong. I'm Yvonne man Bloomberg daybreak Asia now onto U S, China trade, and President Trump saying, he's the one keeping deal from happening. And right now Jonah wants to make a deal very badly. It's me right now. That's holding up the deal. Either do a great deal with China or not doing it deal at all. All right. Trump said that he will meet with Chinese president Xi Jinping, the G twenty some of that will happen later this month in Osaka, Japan rish. Okay. Google is moving more hardware production out of China moving into countries like Taiwan and Malaysia instead production of nest thermostats, and seven hardware are involved is growing concern about these trade tensions. And Bloomberg's monk bug and says Google also has its eye on future business lines. Unlike apple, they're not a massive hardware company, but they do quite a bit for the centers, and they're trying to build up his hardware business. And so they're trying to, you know, thinking about long-term planning, and clearly indication that that they feel like they can't rely on that relationship. Google has already shifted much of a GS bound motherboard production to Taiwan -verting twenty five percent US tariff on Chinese goods, and at the same time apple saying that it has a backup plan. That's if the US and China trade war gets out of hand. More from Bloomberg's Denise Pellegrini. China says will respond if U.S. escalates trade tension

"When it comes to the trade war, Beijing's next move could target US services. That's according to who she Jin whose editor of the global times, when of China's most combative state run newspapers, who spoke exclusively to Bloomberg through an interpreter late with the humble, China may target, the US services sector operating here trade in services is not the same as the trading goods. The US has barely talked about services, but China knows this is a fast growing area for the American side who has developed a reputation for forecasting moves from that. Chinese government using his Twitter feed to accurately predict policy from Beijing, Bloomberg's Tom MacKenzie explains. The FedEx investigation was something that he foresaw with one tweet. That's just one example. He also wrote it sweet about the blacklisting of foreign companies by Chinese officials say before anyone else had heard anything about this. These also tweeted on things like China, cutting back on agricultural purchases from the US and cutting back on Boeing Boeing would as those haven't come to fruition. "Super to owned by Saudi Crown prince Mohammad bin Salman, the five hundred year old painting fits four hundred and fifty million dollars at Christie's in tape a two thousand seventeen global these. Twenty four hours a day on Aaron take took on Twitter, powered by more than twenty seven hundred journalists and unlistenable the one hundred twenty countries. I'm Dan Garin. This is Bloomberg. Caroline, thank you so much now investors looking for insights into what China is planning in the trade will my too well to pay attention to the global times, editor in chief, who she's it has used his Twitter feed to accurately, full cost several government moves, including the investigation into FedEx and the official warning about travel to the US. Speaking to Bloomberg's Tom MacKenzie Hugh explained, what kind of access he has with Beijing, and what China might do next would adult. He should I have access to some accurate information for the nature of my job. But I can't say that I'm authorized by government to release the information it's fair to say that officials will be passing, you information that we possibly tips in the knowledge that you all very likely to tweet about them shows. A lot. Patine cool to be honest. I don't know the, the officials and I have a tested understanding as I have access to those information, I think some of them, no publicize information. Chinese officials have being talking up the economy, but the data the economic data shows pretty clearly that we're facing a continuing slowdown in the Chinese economy. So our officials exaggerating the potential for China to weather, the trade storm jiffy on the. The loss is bearable for China people believe that it doesn't matter to have some losses. Chinese economy is still growing. We don't have any negative growth clear still advancing. In addition, the size of our growth is still remarkable in the world. If Trump goes ahead with additional tariffs on all of China's exports to the US levers tools. Do you think policymakers here, most likely to reach for in terms of retaliation may what they hear full, Molly did China may target the US services sector operating here? I'm going to trade in services is not the same as the trading goods. The US has barely talked about services, China knows this is fast growing area for the American side. So that was the global times editor in chief, who she Jide famo- away place to be joined by being makes China. Correspondent Tom MacKenzie. Tom, another great interview with someone that obviously key players will want to wash given given his tweets. How do you think this newspaper? Actually became so important in terms of being a source of investors when it's really interesting, he started tweeting in twenty fourteen but it's really only in the last six months, who she is developed such a big following particularly amongst investors and analysts and traders. He has about fifty thousand Twitter followers the last time I looked, and it really came about following a number of pretty prescient tweets as you say along the lines of the federal or the FedEx investigation, which was something that he foresaw with one tweet. That's just one example. He also did a tweet wrote a tweet about the blacklisting of foreign companies by Chinese officials have before anyone else had heard anything about this, and before it was officially announced. He's also tweeted on things like China, cutting back on Attica coach will products agriculture purchases from the US and cutting back on Boeing is now that Boeing does those haven't come to fruition, but nonetheless that tweet managed to move Boeing quite significantly. So he has become a. A focal point for many investors trying to get some clarity on the policy stance of China. He seems something as, as something of a policy. Oracle here on one investor told us he's he's essentially the Chinese communist party's equivalent of Trump when it comes to his Twitter feed. In terms of China's options for retaliation. Did he give a sense of what there's more to come? He did. He said that the struggle that officials were facing. Hey, was needing and feeling that they needed to strike back, whilst also wanting to be clear that China remains open for business that the reform and opening agenda here is continuing. They certainly don't want to send the message to other phone businesses beyond the US closing that Dole's. But at the same time, they do want to strike back when the US puts tiresome place. So what he said, was one that they could hit next is the US services sector in the US, and she has a surplus in terms of the services that sells into China, I asked him, of course, about companies like Cal Coleman apple that have caused derive a significant chunk of revenues from the Chinese market. And he says, look, they shouldn't be sitting comfortably and they would be expected to be given the tension between the two sides, equally said he personally doesn't think that apple should be talked at least at this stage. So there was some nuance that from who she Jen. But as I say he is someone who. And this was part of our attempt by talking to him is to find out exactly how fficials treated him and it's classic China example where it's a bit of a grey area. The Chinese officials overseeing no his power when it comes to social media account, but there has been no official top down approach to him. But certainly, he's someone that people are watching very closely. China. Correspondent Tom MacKenzie. "May fall sometime. The US has had various voices. Make comments on China talks. Sometimes it is said that an agreement will be reached soon. Sometimes that it is difficult to reach an agreement. However, in the same period of time, China's position has always been the sea. The generally speaking of the two main issues affecting this region right now. Of course, the China trade dispute and also North Korea both of those issues. Don't Trump is willing to wait right now. He said on North Korea. I'm happy the way it's going to hasn't been nuclear test in a couple of years, the sanctions are still in place. No hurry now this morning, Donald Trump before he started flying back to the United States. He went down to your coats. Good. Naval base, he visited us troops and also Japanese Self Defense Forces sailors, aboard two different warships. One, the largest of the Japanese wet helicopter carriers. The Kaga, then he also went aboard the US wasp similarly, designated ship. It was a Memorial Day address. This is a key issue as well in Japan with Shinzo Ave trying to revise the pacifist constitution, Donald Trump yesterday as well, supporting Japan and Shinzo Avas efforts to better. Protect itself, given those external threats being North Korea as well as China's rise in East China Sea. Thank you very much for that. That's our teeth north Asia. Correspondent Stephen Engle. Let's bring in Chris west. And he's the head of research at pepper stolen financial joins us from Melbourne, Chris. How do you read into these latest developments? Mean is this just a matter of posturing, or is the US China relationship in much deeper trouble than it was three or four weeks ago? He reads, what's happening in the global times in China. Some of the social media train one could make the argument that data's getting further and further away. And the public perception is, especially on the ground in China is one of Roy's anti Americanism and potentially I might show I wife from coach of US products. So one could be probably going some white feather ally. But my opinion mulcahy's will probably being a holding pattern around this volatility, shouldn't kick up too much as we go into the twenty s we go into that public decision around the twenty-five percent tariffs on this extra three hundred billion, and then all of a sudden, not get rolled out to the j twenty K diet up until that point. I think we'd probably going to get in a bit of a holding pattern. We've had a lot of negative news on the ground in showing Donald Trump coming out with similar retro loss snowing. Of course, you wouldn't is supposed to do that in the run-up to g twenty you look at dollar Yuan. Also. And you look at socks which is the Philly semiconductor index you're going to use these as what had you going to buy you on into that. You're going to buy into that. We don't really looking at global proxies of what's happening in try because Cain to boy, but going, very, very difficult to them all kit, west central banks, pretty much designed to suppress volatility, but we all using NASA's proxies to understand public perception, never sucks. The semiconductor index has come under social pressures come with twenty percent since I pulled the actual semiconductor sales have been decimated. Pretty hauled mumps. There are a couple of months lacking. Yeah. We all watching it that as as a proxy. I think paper that being shown tonight, index readily saying, why say nights just being how wiping plying this, but I think the risk reversals have come back to a mo- new on style. So I think no Malky sign it probably the one way trade is over there, we can't look at the AUSSIE dollar is proxies as well. But I think ultimately an environment. Oh, central banks have come to a much more. Flexible situation, the right small could have come to all of a sudden aggressive dovish positioning. Boeing facility, and then these proxies and not going to carry much whites in environment. Chris, it's clear that the market is holding its breath, another chart tells the story of a rush to save save a safe haven assets. GT gopher, our clients, basically, you've got US treasury yields breaking through a key, technical level and the Bank of America, Merrill, Lynch, says that opens it pass up for more downside below the two hundred day moving average. Where does that trade go from Chris? Well, we know looks being pushed into right, small kits the Fronton to the treasury. Obviously pricing in then that's the case in a lot of other countries in j ten as well. But one of the things we all concerned balances this as, as the markets have been quite cushioned because of global trade, and heaven forbid, we get a situation where inflation in the US transitory. We say co PC coming out this way. And if they try tariffs, I, she stopped becoming inflation rate, the, the, and we start saying that ROY, I think that's where we start saying volatility kick up, we don't say a situation went from ten years. So any part of the cubs sales of to aggressively. Heaven forbid, say a situation where inflation and inflation expectations Roy's more than what we're looking for and the fate. Of course, he haven't really been exploring the idea of right? Caught somewhat could promote right cuts. Start turning a little bit more whole thing that's going to happen. But that is a real risk. And if we do that, then I think equities have to try much lower in that situation as much high risk premium. Can we just talk about the reaction function from the Chinese side? And the Bloomberg intelligence, folks. I've written a piece of included, Sean, it's on unemployment, it tires kick, and we go to old tires, the risk is this is that the small exporters in China are the ones that are going to get hit with that lane of people, and this is a massive focus for leaky. China massive unemployment is the risk the question becomes then. Hi, is the ball to another triple cut from that. PBOC. What's side quantum of trip laws mightly expect as a reaction function in all tariff wars thing for the moment. What we've been saying? He's the as I say. Playing around in ten funding. We've saying issue in Sydney, and, and that's pretty big with five Chris. But if we get to a situation where phone conditions until I nothing that's been part of the reason why that being coconut not to let the you on. We can say much they want to incentivize capital outflows, which, of course, could cause a rapid tightening phone conditions who've been the Chinese economy. That's what we're going to see that better to trade in the renminbi. But I think if we say is financial conditions toy, you've got eyes things on the Bloomberg financial conditions indices, and various factors there, then. Yeah. I think that's going to have to be a situation where they'd be looking at one hundred basis points fell easily coming off the reserve ratio by which banks lending. We've seen that time and time again in, in the first cool to wear coming cut rights. And I looked album, liquidity facilities, and it's filtered didn't say, MTA money supply pretty quickly. The credit impulses change pretty quickly and it's fed into the real economy, but it dissipates quite quickly at the same time as well. So what's the ball? Well, I think it's above fifty percent probability that we're going to see that three hundred billion being priced at twenty percents, and then it really comes into this tech Cold War, which people have been libeling how further the guy. So I think the tariffs this tariff guys up, then next question if the protectionist measures, which play through you have how much should the Chinese going to hold off from Boeing apple products, for example, how much what happens to the hallway types, and everyone's fight tech, which is going to come.

Trump says he'll meet with China's Xi amid intensifying trade fight

"Let's talk about the US China trade issue because the United States is reading new tariffs against China. Even as President Trump says that he will meet Xi Jinping next month g twenty meeting. The trade representative's office has released a list of about three hundred billion dollars in put us to be taxed now off to China impose its own retaliatory duties on US goods Trump warns Beijing not to go too far in retaliation. But says that he still optimist about toolbox. They've got back from China. Well, let you know about three or four weeks whether or not it was successful. You never really know. Right. But I have a feeling it's going to be very successful. So for more on this. Let's go live to Beijing weapon begs China. Correspondent Tom MacKenzie is standing by to give us the details on China's retaliatory actions. Yes. So we've been waiting for a few days for the countermeasures that China have promised on last night. Beijing time they came through. So what they going to do is taking the retirement tree times. They already had place in place on sixty billion dollars worth of goods from the previous round, and they just going to raise those levees to between twenty and twenty five percent. And these are products they import from the US, including things like agricultural products, of course, as well as energy, so liquefied natural gas. These are going to kick in from June. The first interestingly, what China didn't do was impose tariffs on US made auto something they suspended back in December often that g twenty meeting between president and President Trump, and they also have yet to cancel a pledge by about seven million tonnes of US soybeans. Well, so they're knock. I mean, those are the probably the hardest hitting measures that could've taken. They're not gonna do that. Are they prepared to put those tears on? If the Trump administration goes ahead and taxes. The rest of the goods that it imports from China. So certainly the view is that they want to take proportional response. So that they can keep these talks going forward with of course, the hope that they can get some kind of resolution in the next few weeks. Even if the odds of that seemed to have changed and the chances seem to a full in in the last few days. So they want to have the key that toolkit that and they have additional measures that they can put in place. So they can do that counsel, for example of US soybean purchases. And of course, they can reimpose those tariffs on US. They haven't done that yet. But certainly the fear was there in the markets yesterday. Looking at the auto stocks listed in the US and particularly country companies like tesla would be very badly hit, of course, other missions. They can take non-tariff barriers so just making life much more difficult for US corporations operating here. And then there was the global times, which is a nationalistic state kind of Bank newspaper tabloid suggesting that maybe being discussed in the holes of power. Hey was a settling down of US treasuries. Now every single analysts that we speak to says that is very very unlikely. Indeed. So they may just be part of the psychological. Operation cyclops between the two countries. Essentially, something we've been looking at whether or not they can devalue the UN a paper newspaper back by the central Bank came out today and said, look, we should not expect significant weakening of the Chinese currency. And in fact, the off show an-and show you is up slightly today. Yeah. I was just looking at that as she CSI three hundred this up three tenths of one percent. Just briefly. How's it playing out in the Chinese markets? So yeah, today's being relatively stable part of that will be down. No doubt to the comments by President Trump saying that he feels that there's going to be a resolution in the next three to four weeks. Of course, many looking ahead to that g twenty meeting between president Xi and President Trump with many hoping that that will lead to some kind of resolution, but really the focus is on what the policy response is going to be. So the C weighing in today to suggest that a radical be value of the currency isn't going to be happening. That's prove something supportive, but we all looking certainly for those additional measures that many economists now expect to see from the central Bank and from the finance ministry, particularly to. Support domestic

"He interestingly was really focusing on the energy resources in the South China Sea. So we've course have Trump talking. The oil in Venezuela. Now, we have Pompeo talk you about the oil in the South China Sea. And you see that the old energy politics of the United States to be coming to the fore again and in diplomacy. One thing that seems to be keeping a lot of values whether it's oil diplomacy. Indeed is gold. Yes. So this next article actually is sort of tit for tat to the Pompeii article. This is the global times out of China, basically say well, of course, the China doesn't have to use US dollars doesn't have to keep us reserves US dollars. In fact, the last few months, we've been ramping up our purchases of gold the numbers, they give are relatively small. But I think the impression that they're trying to give the important thing. They're basically putting a marker down say if no if relations between the US and China sour than the US will also suffer because China will no longer want to hold as much US dollar and also won't wanna held as much US dollar debt. China, of course, is one of the major holders of US monce US government bonds. So that could hurt. The US badly if China did decide to make a fundamental shift away, and is that likely to happen. I think it really depends on how the negotiations go to countries are very pragmatic. He they they won't do anything to hurt themselves either. But I think they do want to make a statement. They will do probably something that will make an impression to the Japan Times. The headlines is Japan to forego joining UN motion condemning North Korea's human rights abuses and apparent bid to get out answers on objections. So I thought this is fascinating for this is going to be the first time in a dozen years that Japan has not joined the global condemnation of North Korea's human rights practices, and they seem taking a leaf from the Trump book of actually cozying up to North Korea Abed in the hope that Honey will get more a more results. Japan is a big problem with North Korea North Korea's come in and taken about seventeen. I believe for Japanese citizens. Dr them holding them. This is a significant political issue within. Japan to pen wants these people back. Joining with the rest of the world and condemning has not worked. So now, they're trying a different tack that. It's very interesting the between what Trump is doing. And now, this Japan is due North Korea's actually becoming no longer a Peress date. It is doing it. As a player is becoming a linchpin that lots of people are now dancing around. Right. Right. So I think this is this is a major change to the to the balance of Asia. Donald Trump has has to do with all that why has a lot to do with it. But I don't know whether he's really thought about it strategically I think this may be the accidental change. Right. Finally, let's head to the Straits Times. I wonder what you're eating right now. If you're listening to twenty if it's if it's a mushroom, then your mental state is fine. Or at least the moment at the moment. So why? Everybody in the British parliament to have a mushroom soup this at so researchers in Singapore on a major study longitudinal study of people who eat lots of mushrooms, and they claim that if you have about three hundred grams per week, you're going to be fifty seven percent less likely to have cognitive impairment what three hundred grams of.

"You. Yes. Thank you, MS Nelson reporter from global global times, China, I would like to ask you expect in China to do in the next step to mediate the your relationship with North Korea. Thank you. Use china. Well, we do. I mean, China's been very helpful president Xi is a great leader. He's a highly respected leader all over the world. And especially in Asia, and he's helped us, Mike. I would say helped us a lot. We've. I actually called him just recently to say, hey, you know, whatever you can do this. But he has been very helpful at the border, and he's been very very helpful with. I think North Korea generally could he be a little more helpful probably. But he's been he's been excellent. Go ahead. Please. Maybe alley next is your friends. President. Could you did you commit with German king Kim to a next summit? During now. Okay. See if it happens. It happens. I have not committed. They are at this point some would say a nuclear power. Do you accept North Korea's nuclear arms state at least for the time being? And are you thinking about reimposing the military exercises with South Korea? Or will you keep enough freeze military exercises? I gave that up quite a while ago. Because it costs us one hundred million dollars every time we do it. We've lied these massive bombers in from Guam. And when I first started a certain general said, oh, yes, sir. We fly him in from Guam is right next door right next door seven hours away. And then they come and they dropped millions of dollars of bombs, and then they go back, and but we would spend. I mean, we spent hundreds of millions of dollars of those exercises. And I hated to see it. I thought it was unfair. And frankly, I was sort of of the opinion that South Korea should help us with that. We're protecting show. South korea. I think they should help us with it. So those exercises are very expensive. And I was telling the generals, they said, look, you know, exercising is fun. And it's nice and they play they play the war games. And I'm not saying it's not. Necessary because it's a levels it is. But at other levels, it's not, but it's a very very expensive thing. And you know, we do have to think about that too. But when they spend hundreds of millions of dollars on those exercises. We don't get reimbursed. We're spending a tremendous amount of money on many countries, protecting countries that are very rich that can certainly afford to pay us, and then some and those countries, by the way, and those countries know that it's not right. But nobody's ever asked before. But I've asked him in. We're doing we're gaining a lot of money we picked up over one hundred billion dollars just in NATO over the last two years one hundred billion dollars more has come in. And we we're doing that. With a lot of countries you'll be seeing that a lot yes surplus. Yeah. One second. Please. Mr President, you have a personal relationship. And I believe vice president Pence says with the family of Otto warmbier I'm wondering you've talked about this week's about Kim Jong Wu and being a my friend you call him on Twitter. You said you have a great relationship have you in Singapore. Here confronted came about Otto warmbier is dead. I have asked him to take responsibility. And what did you say to you? Why do you call him, your friend? I have and I have and I have talked about it. And I really don't think it was his interest at all. I know the warmbier family very well. I think they're an incredible family. What happened is horrible. I really believe something very bad happen to him. And I don't think that. The top leadership knew about it. And when they had to send them home, by the way, I got the prisoners back. I got the hostages back and Otto was one of the hostages but auto came back in shape that was not even to be talked about I find it. I thought it was horrible. Now, the others came back extremely healthy. But auto came back in a condition that was just just terrible. And I will I did speak about it. And. I don't believe that he would have allowed that to happen. Just wasn't his advantage you allow that to happen. Those prisons a rough they're rough places and bad things happened. But I really don't believe that. He was he I don't believe he knew about it. He did it. He saved that. He tell you that he did not Kim Jong and tell you feel badly about it. Just become he felt very badly. But he knew the case very well. But he knew it later, and you got a lot of people big country a lot of people and in those prisons in those camps. You have a lot of people and some really bad things happen to Otto, some really really bad thing. Why are you on? He tells me he tells me that he didn't know about it. And I will take him at his word and yes, ma'am. Go ahead. Please please go ahead in the back. Now in the back behind you. Thank you. Mr president. I volunteer Sputnik. News agency, a have you discussed the issue of possible inspections to North Korean nuclear sites, you and your negoti you're gonna have this. You're gonna have to speak a little louder and. Where are you from Russia's newsagency discuss the issue of possible inspections to North Korea's North Korea's nuclear sites with you and your talks with the with the chairman. What are you answer them? Good inspections. Into section. Yes. Inspections on North Korea. Yeah. Nor do that very easily. We have that setup. So we would be able to do that variously inspections or North Korea will take place and will if we do something with them. We have a schedule set up that is very good. We know things that as David was asking about certain places and certain sites there are sites that people don't know about that we know about we would be able to do inspections. We think very very successfully. Yes, ma'am. Please. Liz. Yes. Go ahead. Please. Thank you, Mr President a lot of people here, by the way that big group of people. Go ahead can use Israel president following this engagement with North Korea. You're trying to bring peace to the Middle East. The peace plan is about to be introduced in the near future. And as you have mentioned before we hope we hope we're working hard on the peace plan, and we hope it will do. But as you mentioned before it will require Israel to make compromises to the Palestinians. As far as you know, is prime minister Netanyahu willing to make these compromises, which are very much needed. And a second question Mr Netanyahu is about to be indicted today with corruption allegations, do you wish to tell him something on this occasion? Well, I just think he's been a great prime minister. And I don't know about his difficulty. But you're telling me something that people have been hearing about, but I don't know. That I could say this that he's done a great job is prime ministry. Stuffy smart. He's strong. He is very defensive is military is. Been built up a lot by a lot of equipment from the United States, and they pay for it. Of course, we give them tremendous as, you know, subsidy also four billion dollars is a lot each year. But they are they've been very very good. They've been incredible actually in many ways. But there is a chance for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. And you know, it's interesting all my life. I've heard that the toughest of all these when they talk about tough deals like deals, but the toughest of all deals would be peace between Israel and the Palestinians. They say it's like the impossible deal. I'd love to be able to produce it. We'll see what happens. You know? We were paying the Palestinians a lot of money, and I ended that about two years ago because they weren't saying the right things. And I said, why would we pay somebody? That's not saying nice things about us. And not really wanting to go to the peace table, and they've been much better. And we'll see what happens. But I think I think we have actually a good shot at peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Yeah. Go ahead. Please. Mr president. I'm from China. Do you believe it's possible that's North Korea and the US could it be like the US and with releasing the future? You have to go again. Do you believe do you still believe that it is possible the relation between the US and North Korea in the future? Could it be like the US and with Dan? Yeah. I think we're going to have. Yeah. We have very very good relations. And by the way, speaking of you mentioned Japan, we have a lot of good things happening with Japan. We have trade talks started for years Japan has been sending millions and millions of cars in and is you know, it's not been a very fair situation for the United States. We're starting trade talks with Japan. They actually started about three months ago. And I think we'll have a very good deal for the United States. But that's been a very unfair situation. Prime minister, AVI understands that. And that's fine. Yes. Please back there. Thank you, Mr President and Shanghai media group. Do you think next museum could be soon or my pick some time? I can't tell you. I made it might be sooner. It might not be for a long time. I can't tell you. I would hope it would be soon. But it may not be for a long time. I could have done I could have done a deal today. But it would have been a deal that wouldn't a better deal. That would have been something that I wouldn't have been happy about Mike would not have been happy about we had some pretty big options. But we just felt it was appropriate. And we really want to do it. Right. Yes. In the back in the back. Yes, ma'am. Please. Debi Edward is TV news at which point. Did it become clear to you that you wouldn't be guessing a deal here in Hanoi? The language from yourself and Kim Jong UN was very positive last night and even this morning, and therefore it wasn't a mistake. I think your language was good all throughout the language has been good even now, but. I know go by language because we had probably the toughest language and the history of diplomacy of you. Call it diplomacy at the beginning. And yet we became very friendly. I don't believe there was any tougher language ever than that. But again, this is something that should have been handled by other presidents long before me long before they had the kind of power that they have..

"And watching the shows to find out how we see in this country is look what China's done this shows how advanced they are what do they mean by this is something sinister towards this has the Chinese coverage being triumphalistic jingoistic is not being jingoistic is being very triumphal as it rightly should be. I mean, this is in chief meant that. Even NASA said was objectively impressive, no reason, not be proud. But what I was surprised by when looking at the Chinese papers. Is how not smug. It was with a few exceptions the majority of the papers were quite respect for. They were quite gracious about this victory. They said this was a victory for mankind. Not not for China and not over the west or anything like that. Communist government. Not no mention of communism whatsoever. No mention of space race. They did say things like now China is within the ranks of the big boys can play in space exploration. That's fair enough. But I was quite surprised about how not smoke everything was defined in article global times where they were looking at the New York Times is coverage and they were having a bit of fun at the tone of New York Times, which I thought was basically American jingoism. Yes, say the global times is the biggest tabloid in China, say essence, very hawkish and has very colloquial way of writing and actually accused the New York Times of being blind. The New York Times I've said those as media blackout before the launch just in case they failed and isn't it funny that the Chinese day even want to release this information beforehand and label time said, well, actually, we did have a life Twitter feed. But do you even understand Chinese? I mean d- even reach knees. So it's quite funny. I got a lot of traction on Chinese Asia media ever, it just shows that Chinese medias watching western media watching. Media Broza Andy funky very much. "Bloomberg from Indonesia second quarter GDP. Expanding five point two seven percent year on year the estimate was for five point. Two percent One two percent so a clear beat on that front of course the Indonesian central Bank has been in. Focus. As part of this EM's under pressure? In, light of rising rates. Currently dollar-rupiah slightly below the flatlined on a tenth of one percent. Lower okay let's see how markets finished on trade yes topping the. Board Israel we've just had one, of the biggest rallies in the Israeli market they were raised a AA minus by s. And p strong growth they, expect growth of three point three percent. Over the next couple of years between two. Thousand eighteen and. Twenty twenty one so nice upgrade for Israel decided manga done by Nathan one percent let's see. How. The market reacts this morning, just, Saudi Arabia suspending its ties with Canada over the arrest at Saudi steel pipes were tying by nine percent yes he was on the upside really really strong numbers there to buy the insurance where a little. Bit better yesterday in Dubai up. On the one percent Encarta eight, tenths, of one percent just a. Little bit softer on the market, this morning Our top stories Chinese state media say the country is prepared for long trade? War. Is afraid of sacrificing term economic, interests the Trump administration is also vowing won't-back-down or China correspondent Tom MacKenzie joins us now from Shanghai Tom how does it all unfold from here I mean the state media is getting quite vocal about this Certainly yes some spicy language from the state Bank global times, editorial out of the last few days saying that the US was losing its mind and that China was going to fight until the end but as you say as you point to the more. Important takeaway really is this sense now that Chinese state media at least a stealing the country for a longer more drawn out fight with the US when it comes to trade in terms of how things play out from here. You your that list published by the Chinese on Friday. More majorly in the, next few days the next few weeks we're expecting potentially that, additional sixteen billion dollars worth of goods to, be targeted by the US to round out that first round. Of fifty billion dollars worth of tariffs that then China would very. Likely match so, both sides hitting, fifty billion dollars on each side and then of course we're looking to this consultation period. By the end of August on this much larger group of Chinese products two hundred billion dollars. Worth, of the US looking to target they? Would then, no likelihood starts to impose tariffs in early September That is when China is likely to pull the trigger on this new list of sixty billion dollars worth of US goods flowing. Into the Chinese market I think a key question really. Is has Trump sided, with this US Trade Representative Robert lighthizer in the belief that, this is a chronic problem this trade issue, with China that's going to take years to resolve or is. He looking for short term fix before the midterm elections in November That was only. The Chinese and making that point. Very clear they're in it for the long haul Tom great to see this morning let's see. I the markets continue to absorb the latest headline so McKenzie in Shanghai let's in our guest this morning Tom check at Lang Asian FX strategist at UBS global wealth management joining from our Singapore studio great to have you with this this morning I. Take off with the the PBOC broke, its silence on Friday we stuck it into, the library it's there the longest losing streak on the Juan. Since its inception back in nineteen ninety four and what I really, want to know is has done enough to stymie the run on the one The weakness in the u on is not caused by the PBOC so he's a bit more More new ones because it is not about getting to the level that helps the economy but the UN is, actually under external selling pressure because as the US tricked takes its toll on the Chinese economy the UN has to actually reflect some of this precious given the Chinese. Economic data is actually going to bit weaker to where do they need to take the UN they. Are showing that they are slowing down the weakening of the because the is fighting. The market fos we think that seven could actually be a level that it could drift. Given it is how the US China trade is actually heading to. Us in the coming months It's been a, string of losses but there are some other important correlations that are being broker we put together a chart and we added that to our library as well TV gopher. Clients this is the negative correlation between dollar you want and emerging market peers that's deepened in light. Of wider volatility the beds are rising the trade wars rattling the one one thing's. For sure you are saying you know what avoid c. n. y. exposure why is that In the short, term I guess hit.
