Antifa Clashes With Armenian Parents Over LGBTQ Curriculum

"Welcome to the program. Fill us in about what happened in Glendale, California yesterday. So, yeah, so in Glendale, you had some parents go out to a school board meeting. They have been protesting the school board there for some time, demanding that there's transparency of curriculum. Last night, parents went out. There's a large Armenian population as well. I talked to one mom who was filming inside the school board meeting and a dad who was actually outside watching what was going on. He told me that Antifa -type people showed up. They sided and segregated themselves with the proponents of LGBTQ curriculum in schools and then broke off and went to confront a group of Armenian men who were in a parking lot right nearby. At that point, from what I understand, one of the Antifa guys threw a punch at one of the Armenian men and a scuffle broke out.

Fresh update on "glendale" discussed on The Hair Radio Show with Kerry Hines

"If you want to talk about the What the contributions of our ancestors have done for America then talk about that, but you're not you know They think that just by showing black people and putting the banner black, you know That already tells me who's in your newsroom and what your discourse is doing and where there's a disconnection So I don't want to be part of that Which is not organic for me. I want an organic experience each morning and I want that experience to be shared By the folks who tune in so there are you know, I've never wanted to just you know when I like just to look at the shows and not you know, even if they have Black people on their newscast. I'll tell you, you know, it's not it's there's not an organic feeling for me It's just I see folks and my favorite one Is where you'll have folks who may be black Who You know where folks outside the community look and they think they're kind of maybe not black and I'm looking at them thinking that They kind of might be black and somebody else's because they it's like I call them real You know invisible Kind of that can fit into any Anybody's mind I think it's a commitment to whether it's community or color Colorization or Perspective or heart all of those, you know are things that You can you know paint and make it seem it's like xyz Even though in reality, it's not too hard to scratch that surface and and see the reality which is that You know more than 98% of the media comes from an exclusive source And so this is not a new story but why what I like about hair radio network and what you do carry is that you are more genuine and Don't seem to be afraid to have whomever whatever Story and it's their story, you know, and and you know, you invite them to present it in Think that's very happy and again, you haven't been it's not like your first time at the rodeo You've been doing this for what 29 years or there about how long? We'll park it on that one. There's a good number Okay, but Mary I do not just yes and closing on that I do want to just mention that you know my whole point was that you have You have these different newsrooms locally who generally don't include folks of I don't see it with my eyes so much especially here in my market with the darker hues and but what I will find are folks who are totally the opposite where It just does it's not inclusive and you feel that when you look at these things and This is something that seems to be missing across the board Generally speaking now when it comes to the Cosby conversation, that was my whole reason For thinking about Cosby first of all because when I thought about this and have the inspiration It was from he had just been sent off to prison You could see in the news coverage that to say it was slanted it's like the understatement of the year and so it was in the midst of all of the The you know the confrontation me to moment. Yeah Yeah, the me to type movements and all of these things bubbling up to the surface but there was a tinge of You know of other conversations that seemed to be the discourses that we're trying to bring to the surface and that was color and so with Bill Cosby story and again, he had just been sent off to prison and the negative onslaught and I this is not to discuss whether or not he's Innocent as far as I'm concerned or guilty. I have no idea But what I do know is that the from my perspective The lens was very different from what seemed to be again the folks inside versus outside the community so as we moved along with his story that we've been kind of Brought into this with local news media and and the coverage of it And I just kind of thought that it was time To visit this after he had been away for some time incarceration and Or incarcerated. So I thought it was a good time that we should brush off this story That seemed to be as far as the just of course I got from the media was to lock him up throw away the key And again not to say whether he's guilty or innocent I mean Everybody's guilty of something Everybody, you know, it's just being responsible for your actions whether you positioned yourself in in someone's Layer or you know, whatever I'm not going to retry that but I also want to look at the concept of characters as a nation And I want to look at the stereotypes that I want to look at people being responsible and not Responsible on and on and on there's just a myriad of directions we could go But for him one of the things that I would say because you mentioned Colorization he was the first one like they can pinpoint that this was the first Leading black actor he wasn't a subservient. He wasn't a lackey whatever he had equal footing with his co Co After I guess In I spy Robert Culp, right? They had equal roles basically and you know a little pretty but he actually Saw somebody being painted up in blackface who was going to be his stunt double for whatever episode and he he stood up and he's like Well, I'm thinking there's somebody Who's already black, you know that family so he opened up the door for That he opened up the door for actors of all Hughes in all ages, you know He did a lot of good. So to say that he's an imperfect person. I'm not necessarily shocked I'm not necessarily saying he wasn't acting in Some cultural ways that were accepted at the time, but the punishment and the crime don't seem to fit I I'm not I'm not going to judge that but I'm looking at the good that he did as a black man in a very You This this I want to say disadvantage but an unequal setting and he still stood up and he still did Good and right things just like cable Scott and you know, we have we have more than one but he had his longevity and The numbers of pads that he opened up for other people clean comedians, you know all kinds of things I think that those just shouldn't be thrown out with the bathwater You can't undo the good that he did, you know, so but but I think If people take a listen To that discussion. I think they will be Reminded of all layers that go into being a celebrity and all the layers that go into being a black celebrity and even the more layers and amounts of courage that it takes to Be a black celebrity who recognizes that you do have some power and to use it properly When I say properly I mean for the positive of mankind or you know They could have totally just blown him away and you know, we never heard of who Bill Cosby was again But it didn't work out that way. So You know, I applaud you for giving him some space and having a discussion about You know the good and the bad so I just wonder where it came from. Yeah, and Mary that is Just in that but that's exactly what happened We wanted to take a look at someone needed to mention the contributions. I'm from Philadelphia So I grew up looking at every corner and there's Temple University and there is you know a very In there's a very deep profound feeling that you know Bill Cosby that he's connected He's from Philly was connected to Philly and this was for all of us we would have that kind of pride but the thing that really resonated was that he had done so much in the education sphere and so So yes again, this is not to try guilty. We don't know I don't know don't even that's not my thing. I'm able to make that discernment about being able to see if to really look at the good and That is something that is incredibly important so Mary, thank you for that. Oh boy I love boy you just opened up with a bang this morning. Okay Well, it's your show. I have to I have to I know that you have it and I know that People need to know about it. So where did you come up with some of your title for hair radio morning? So what it what it where did because you've got the network, right? You've got the show you have Just a variety of parts of your brand so expand on some of you know How one part of your brand led to the next part? Absolutely, and I'm so glad you mentioned this Mary because folks are Sometimes they can you know we have similar titles with everything and everything is radio and hair and you're not sure if you listen to do the Radio show or a recorded podcast or the live show or our 24-hour network. So we have all the above and Let me just tell you I'm so pleased that you asked it this way because it started out as the hair radio show and Hair radio at that time was one word. So with ha I are a di o the hair radio show So it was literally three words hair radio was a made-up word. I Later down the road separated it but at that time it was ha I radio the hair radio show And so no one could find it So I said, okay I gotta separate the word hair from radio at that time in terms of the broadcast and We started out of North New Jersey on the station W and JR which was located in downtown, New York New Jersey and that's on a.m. Radio, so It's called a.m. And FM radio. It's called terrestrial radio So, uh, so I started on terrestrial radio folks, you know these days they start on the internet Starting on the phone. Hey, I Predated all of that. So I started on an a.m. Station With the hair radio show and that was a fluke. I had already been producing Radio shows and I started with the show on the West Coast for kids and then came back to the East Coast and started But that's a fuzzy bear Well, it was actually it was our version. It was my own Thought it was called fluff the bear fluff the bear. Well, I was And I'll tell you that story too. It's a very interesting story but I have to say it it really was the beginning of My whole journey so and I've never really told this story and then I'll circle back to why And how we got to hear radio and the names and all of that But yes When I moved out to California because I'm from Philadelphia folks again I've just as a reminder that just mentioned I'm from Philly and so I went out to the West Coast To LA to Los Angeles to just kind of you know, get out to the sunshine I'd always wanted to I traveled there many times working in the airline I said let me give it a try so I moved out to the West Coast back in the 90s and Started work for one of the major airlines a legacy airline carrier, which just means one of the old big-time airlines and They got with my co-workers and I was inspired to create a children's character And I was inspired by one of my friends who went to this super expensive School that you guys on the West Coast and all of my friends out in California, you know, the school is USC and There weren't a whole lot of you know, wealthy black kids out there who were going to us, you know You had to have money essentially was my take on the folks the kids that was USC at the time. And so My friend who was ironically from New Jersey also here on the East Coast that I met out there in LA and So shouting out the folks in Hackensack, New Jersey So my friend John and I got to talk with John John wrote I was so proud of him. I'd never met anybody around my age who worked for Billboard magazine on the West Coast out in LA Which produces the Hollywood Reporter? Newspaper even to this day. They're still the same people on Wilshire Boulevard Which I lived off of Wilshire in LA and so John was working for You know a billboard magazine and he had been They paid him Extra I guess because he was already working there to interview Queen Latifah So I'm looking at this article Queen Latifah she's actress and rapper from she's still out there doing a lot of things and This was in the 90s and Queen Latifah was mainly a rap Superstar at that time and so he they put him in Billboard magazine with this huge picture And it's still available on the internet too, by the way This article that he did and so I was so proud of John I was like so proud and I said if John now John was also going to school at USC as I mentioned and So I was like, wow if he can do this there's got to be something I can do and So I Went into out in LA. They have the apartment and out there It's a little different than here where I am in Brooklyn, New York and probably out there where you are as well Mary But on the West Coast West Coast out in LA the apartments all have like a little dressing room So you may have you've got a bathroom and then you have a separate dressing room Which usually your bathroom lets into and then you go into the rest of your apartment Those were many of the apartments you you folks out there in LA know what I'm talking about Well, that's very different here I have never been into a an apartment or even a house or anything on the East Coast that has a separate dressing room So out there that was the typical all these old apartments have it so I went into my dressing room in Los Angeles Recorded our children's I just said, you know what? Let me just I literally in those days you'd have a tape recorder and I took a tape recorder and Just told the story of something that was off the top of my head and I made up a story being so influenced by And I think that influence was from Winnie the Pooh, obviously when I was a kid My mom bought me those stories. So I came up with the idea of fluff the bear I never made that connection at the time, but looking back and as we are now listening back But but yeah, I created the fluff the bear story on an audio tape Audio cassette for you guys from the last century Yeah, so I created a story called fluff the bear in which I was telling the story of a little child a bear Who has great friend or these two little friends and He went on a journey to fall asleep So that was the whole story. That was the crux members for kids. You don't have to make it war and peace It just has to make sense to the little ones and we didn't really talk down to them. We enjoyed Telling a story that the whole family could listen to and so I took this idea to my colleagues at the airline and the airline Allowed us supported us. They did a big article of me in their Magazine their aircraft airplane magazine. So you guys I remember those Yes, you remember the back seats of each airline, you know, yeah Well, I was on page three. I'll never forget it for that month and along with my colleagues at the airline so we would voice the stories and That led to so many other things but largely they had a plaque of me on the airline wall Of my accomplishments. So the magazine they had the picture which I'll share with everybody put it on I put it on social media put it on our website at hair radio comm for everybody but what was so astonishing is that no other employee had a plaque on the wall at the airline except me and When I would fly on the airplane, you know, I would travel back from LA to my home My family and stuff on the East Coast They would announce that I was on the airplane and to turn to page three so they could read the article And everybody would clap on the airplane Well, that is me That did it for me. So that's how I kind of that kind of really brought me into it and You know to think and so I think John for inspiring me to create fluff the bear that went on to the success of the airline and then The big news is the airline wanted me to develop audio content for the airplane for children So that led me to go to end up on Sunset Boulevard in LA At the same building where Atlantic Records was at the time you guys you know may remember Atlantic Records, so I went out to that building and Because somehow I got connected with a public relations firm back in those days. I didn't know PR I didn't know what a publicist was like anybody else. I was just like, you know, just fun for life and So I got connected with a public relations firm and I remember going in that building and on the elevator looking out and seeing Atlantic Records on one of the floor That and Going up to the PR firm and there were no black faces Let me just just be honest with everybody there were none and I said in the conference room They all came in and they connected me with an or an outfit that took radio they had their own radio network, which I still remember and They took my children's cassette Idea my children cassette and turned it into a radio commercial and they put that commercial of my cassette onto 875 stations advertisement so we were in 75 markets talking about fluff to bear cassettes and the commercial, you know the radio show and the you know Get your own commercial. I'm sorry get your own buy your own cassette So I that was my first time being out in 875 markets at the beginning of this and the 90s and so from there I was discovered in part by I took that and turned it into a weekly Theater show and the gentleman who was one of the stars of the Amos and Andy TV show now Remember, this is Los Angeles He had opened up and created a very respected live performing theater called the Ebony Showcase in Los Angeles and he was there with his wife and his daughter Valerie and his name was Nick Nick Stewart Nicholas Stewart was one of the stars of Amos and Andy So I went to the theater. He loved me they loved me there and I got to know his family and he allowed me to put on a Fluff the bear live performing show on Saturdays and that's what I did. So I had the radio show by the way the public relations firm Introduced me to a radio station out in Glendale, California So I was able to put on the very first Radio show that was on that I in LA anyway at 730 in the evening Caught the fluff the bear radio show from there That was all running kind of Simultaneously with The theater show from Nick Stewart theater called again the Ebony Showcase theater what I loved about Ebony Showcase theater and again you mentioned about the six degrees is that One of the Board of Trustees he'd have the story had all these Black celebrities as trustees of his theater His Board of Trustees and one of those individuals was of course guess who? Bill Biked Oh bill. Oh my no posse. So there you go. Miss Mary Wow Well right now we're listening to a air radio Network or which one I wear we hear radio warning. So what's the greenery in right now? Well, that's the thing and I wanted to spell out the beginning. So that's how the hair radio show Had started so I got that emphasis when I returned back home I took the success from all those cassette sales moved back to the East Coast and opened up office space in downtown, Newark, New Jersey and That's where I had my own Staff I had all kinds of folks helping me at that time the two assistants and again upstairs in Newark It was really nice now So I created the hair radio show at that time and The hair radio show was really just the idea of taking I thought I would just have a hairstylist or to give out some hair tips and That would be it So I assembled a staff most folks don't know that I didn't host the first hair radio show even on my own production Well, I had taken four Hairstylists two were doing what in those days we call natural hair, which is what it is still is But they would do like locks and twists. That's what they were known for in orange, New Jersey and one lady She was in the Montclair, New Jersey and she would talk about like the cosmetology side of hair Hair care and then I had another gentleman who was a barber and but I think he also did like natural hair but he was like a barber in that realm and And the four of them along with I just produced the show the first hair radio show I just produced it and they would talk and they were wonderful. I love them so very much But you're looking back at the lens Now that's very different than in 1995 In 1995 we all had to be in the same room to produce a radio show like that pretty much You could dial in but it was you had to go up to a radio station and those days So it was so hard to connect everybody who was in different places and they were awesome I love them so very much. I wonder whatever happened to them. I'm gonna see if I can find them To just go very high. Yeah, that would be awesome. I'm gonna try to do that I'm so glad we're having this discussion this morning on the head radio show But yeah, that's how I started and the only reason I said well I love the hairstylist giving tips But let me see if maybe I could do it since I couldn't get everybody as Often as I wanted to and I had schedules and things like that to adhere to for the radio Stations that we were on Allen and down in Newark, New Jersey And so I said I'll take over the hosting I fail except me I'm thinking you know as far as the public is concerned I said because I can look at it from the Novice's point of view which is probably the it's the angle anyway that I wanted to have I wanted to ask the questions Genuinely that folks who? Need to know you know would like to know that's the same thing I wanted to know and that's what I did I started with that in mind And I took over the reins of hosts of my own show and creation For the hair radio show and that's how I started But with Mary with that impetus or with the thought anyway that I was providing content for just the general public I had no idea That that the we were going to be taken over so to speak by professionals in the industry by the product companies by All kinds of folks coming on board by the entertainment folks even high But I had no even talk about some of the products Yes, talk about some of the product connections and and people in the industry that Have appeared or that you've worked with on hair radios network Absolutely well and also just to wrap it up So you know what happened after that because we went from the three word title the hair radio show to the actual kind of like five word title, which is the hair radio morning show so as I said back in 95 the Hair radio show was created, and I'm very proud of that and we started again with folks You know the general public providing tips, but as we moved along I? Left the industry the end and and I wasn't that steeped in the hair industry.

Arizona School Board Member Says No Teachers With Christian Values

"Okay, I want to play this piece of tape here from a school board member in Arizona. Do we know what school board it is? I want to get that. It's her name is quite something. Her name is tamiya Valencia. That's quite a name. I got to tell you. So tamia valence suela is on the governing board of the Washington elementary school district. And she has some very strong opinions. And so the Washington elementary school district is right in northwest Phoenix right near Glendale and right near Peoria. This is an extraordinary piece of tape. She first describes herself as bilingual, disabled, all right? This is a new one. I gotta be honest. I am pretty up to date on all the new labels of the left. Neuro divergent, anybody? That's a new one. She's a neuro divergent queer black Latina. Oh, is that another way of saying she has ADHD or autistic? I've never heard that word used in that way. Okay. Well, I wish the best for her. So she's bilingual, disabled, neurodivergent, queer, black, Latina. That's her title, right? Oppression Olympics look at me, look at my metals. Look at all these different things I have. And there's other labels too that I think I might give her after the tape. So effectively, the Washington elementary school district in Phoenix, which serves students in Phoenix and Glendale areas had an ongoing contract with Arizona Christian university, ACU, great school for 5 years, enabling their students. Their student teachers to be placed in its schools for field experience. The contract opened up opportunities for recruitment and hiring. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell Gives an Election Integrity Update

"I just wanted to have you on the program today to kind of get an update because everywhere I go, people say, what's going on with the election and the different states, whatever. And my answer is always, I don't know. I have to ask Mike because you have been working tirelessly, giving generously out of your own pocket for the sake of this nation. And I want my audience to know. So where are we? What is happening right now? Well, first I'm going to put a little extra bizarreness to this before I tell you where we're at on everything. You know, as we have been going around meeting with every state, just I mean, I can it's a 30 some states already. We just met, this was three days ago, everybody, with Utah. Some politicians in Utah. We've put out everybody get ready for this. As a pilot project, they used in the 2020 election, a lower municipality voting or whatever. They allowed you to email in your vote or text it in. Excuse me, stop. You're joking. You're joking. No, I'm not joking. This is a true fact. They could email or text your vote in everybody. You know, this was a pilot. When I heard this, I was floored. I said, you gotta be kidding me. And I just want everyone to see where things are going in our country. I mean, that is, to me, is the most bizarre. I know my own emails get hacked on a daily basis. I can have trolls taxing me in the middle of the night when I'm when I'm a lot of times I'll just play with them. Go, hey, troll, how's it going? You know? You know you get some sleep like Glendale. Stop it. I'm okay, but here's where we're at. We've got we've got a we've got about 5 different things going on at the same time. The first one everybody's been asking me about is the Supreme Court complaint. Great news, everybody. Just yesterday, the final edits were done that the attorneys general wanted changes that they that they wanted. And they remember this is the people's report, but the attorney generals are the ones that are states. Let's just be clear. So people understand 'cause not everybody is following this right now, you have gone to the attorneys general of various states in America to put together a lawsuit. You learned from the one that was put together a month ago that the Supreme Court refused to look at it. They didn't look at it and reject it. They refused to consider it. Last year, yeah, so you said we're going to go back to the drawing board. We're going to do it again. We've learned from our mistakes, and this time we're going to put it in front of them again, and we're going to dare them to refuse to look at it because we're going to do everything they need us

L.a.'s New COVID Vaccination Proof Rules Go in Effect Today

"So today, is it today? I think it is, right? So let me get this straight in Los Angeles. I'm broadcasting from right outside Los Angeles. Glendale, California. Which is its own city, so in Glendale, at this point, do you have to show a vaccination certificate? To get into a restaurant or wait so long that is a hair salons, nail salons, the like, that's LA county, correct? And that I believe does begin today. No, no, LA county. I think so. I think so, 'cause I live in LA county not in LA city and I don't believe I can get a haircut. Where I live. That that's my take a look. So look it up. Ellie county salons. Put that. I think that would probably get it cut it for you. But anyway, in LA, listen to this from the Los Angeles Times, which of course is for anything that the bribes people of freedom except abortion. Is this the beginning of the end Kim prince asked during a recent phone call? We have been in a period of pivot pivot pivot. I just want to fry chicken. A Monday prince who owns hot ville restaurant in the Baldwin hills Crenshaw mall, and all other restaurants in the city of Los Angeles will have to pivot again to comply with a new ordinance that requires customers to show proof of a vaccine, or a negative COVID-19 test. To dine indoors. Enforcement of the ordinance which covers shopping malls, movie theaters, beauty saloons and other indoor activities will start November 29th.

"At 8 24 East Glendale, When the East Valley at Cooper, which is the same as Stapley and Guadalupe, or 26, 40 70 Southern Avenue Southern Avenue straight south of the Sky Harbor Airport on Monday through Saturdays, you can go to our big Tree Farm and Stanfield, Stanfield wrote about Miles south of an estate eight. If you need trees, any kind, any size from 15 gallons your big 72 inch boxes. We've got them growing right here in Arizona, Um, come out and see us. We deliver plant guarantee We're licensed, bonded insured, and we Got a great staff of professionals to help you in any dimension of planting trees. Uh, next up. We've got chaired down in Glendale. Hello, Chad. Everybody. How are you? Excellent. Hey, Brian, I gotta um so we just built a house out by Luke Air Force Base, and the tree that we fell in love with is a Pikus and it wasn't a 40 inch 48 inch box. Although the problem is is that trees about the price of a good used car? So Now, if I gotta five or 15 gallons, like is how long would it take to get to that size? Well, I was, you know, we grow a lot of fighters down in our nursery at 19th Avenue and Dobbins is kind of our ficus growing yard. And I would say from from a 15 gallon to a 48 inch box tree for us in the nurseries about five or six years. Um, now at home in the ground is gonna be a little faster unless you have a freeze. Um, so if you take a 15 gallon to grow to a 48 inch size, where the fight is tree on the grounds, probably four years. And now let me ask you this. You get brought up a good point that you're growing yard is at $19 the tree that I'm going to put in the ground. Should I buy it in a habitat? It's close to where I live or doesn't matter. Doesn't really make much difference. You know, we we grow a lot of trees here in Arizona, and we have, you know, all together over 500 acres of trees growing here in Arizona. But we certainly bring trees from Florida and California and Texas and even sometimes Hawaii and if you had of Oregon, you know, so when they're acclimated the proper time of year, you know, a good healthy treats a good, healthy tree Ficus netted as a grand primarily, you know, in California, Arizona and some in Florida. So what's the best time of year for me To put that fighters on the ground? Well, really good time to plan to fight. This is like an early October. You know, they have a good growing season when the weather drops below hundreds Perfect and you got a chance to have the tree get rooted and established before it gets cold and the biggest problem for ficus here. Historically,.

I think they're going six Don't know They just had the 66 sale, So I think they're going on 67 years old and 64 acres of vehicles. You will never, ever regret. Stopping At the lot. On 51st Avenue, south of Glendale. Of Sanderson, Ford. Continuing our celebration of American patriotism here on the 20th anniversary of 9 11. There are events all over the state going on, Uh, not hard to find just Search me, but one interesting one. Have you seen the Tower Challenge Foundation out of Tucson. They have three. Uh Three different locations, uh, at the Tucson Convention Center. Um Wherever the coyotes play. I can't remember name of the stadium and Glendale right now. Glenn Ballerina Glendale Arena. Uh and then in a you SkyDome and you go, Uh, climb 2000 and 71 steps, Which is how many steps were in the, uh, World Trade Center all 112 stores, but one interesting one as well. There's a carefree Arizona is the carefree 9 11 Reflection resident and former Marine Sergeant Bob Jenkins will speak about his experience being in the 39th floor of the World Trade Center on that day. Nuts at six o'clock tonight at the town council Chambers would be interesting. There are a number of events. I think Grandell are sorry, Gilbert Having something at 6 30 may sample theaters having something East Valley and all over the state, Sedona's I think having some counsel And let's break Megan into the conversation who is called? We've asked for people to call and share with our stories They have of the hope and the love and the unity and the patriotism they saw. On 9 12. Good morning, Megan. Pirozzi. Tell us your story I call you bet you so My daughter and I lived together and worked together on the morning of 9 11 and we while we were getting ready, ready for work. That's when we saw what happened. And we both just were standing. We called into our boss so that we weren't going to be in work. And then we went straight to the Red Cross. Thinking that we were going to donate blood when we got there. Because we didn't know what else we could do when we got there. There were hundreds of people wrapped around that building in line to give blood. The Red Cross volunteers were beside themselves because they didn't have the staffing to deal with those people. And so several of us, my daughter and I and several other people jumped in and started scheduling appointments with people so that they could come back and give glad. We were taking names and numbers so that we could get a call is going to call him back. Meanwhile, others were coming going to the store and coming back with bottles of water for all the people that were in line. And I just knew from that, because when I felt like we're going to be okay. Uh, this is our neighbors. That were all taken care of each other right now. And so that was just such a hopeful moment in my life. Well, thank you very moment helped me get through it. Thank you for sharing it and it's going to help all of us get through today's anniversary, And it's exactly what we're here for with Dr David Dean. Associate professor of history at Grand Canyon University. Sharing what you remember about the hope of 9 12. Sure. And you know, 9 12 I like you was shocked on 9 11. I a person that watches the news flips between as many news channels as I can, and I was probably up all night watching and then 99 12. It's You know, settling in now, and that's when the stories of people helping the hero is, um that just, you know, going to the Red Cross. Um newspapers started to have full page ads from companies like American Express and Bank one at the time. Hey, get out! Give blood American Red Cross big ad Have people come out The community was rallying around and we mentioned before about flags. A little company in ST Louis, the All States Flag and Banner company in ST Louis. By step Tober 14th two days later. Three days later, they had over three million requests for flags. And their little five person office. That's how people were responding. Uh wow. Wow. How do you get three million requests and three days at the time? The orders, you know, I mean, coming. I mean, that's uh, massive amount in the Internet was not Very old yet, right? Right. There's no way that many phone calls came in, right, so somehow or another, they're just they're just you know, the orders are pouring in because people are out of the stores and the hardware stores and places are out of stock. And they're making flags. So it wasn't individual orders. It could be the WalMart of Arizona, asking for another half a million facts, not you. That's awesome. Well, I can remember reassuring people. At the time. I said, Look, it hurts that hurt a lot, but but we're America. Um You will hear in a lot of stories. That it was the worst terrorist event on American soil. Now if I lived in 18 12 and I saw the British burning down my White House. Um, that seems pretty impactful. I'd be pretty upset that day. Sure. Well in the war of 18 12, of course, was significant day. It's probably one of the the toughest for Americans at the time, because yes, the British came and sacked the capital. They're bombarding our Fords. They're they're attacking not only just about Washington, D C but up in northern part and down in New Orleans. And so there's a lot of comparisons. But one of the things about that is that the nation state Attacking another nation state, and that's not a terrorist attack doesn't meet. That definition certainly was a bad day. But it's not necessarily a terrorist day. There are other examples like the Oklahoma bombing 9 11, of course, the towers had been attacked before 1993. Those are the kind of terrorist attacks That we kind of come to even Pearl Harbor sometimes gets compared because of the surprise and shock. People reacted in many of the same ways, but the event itself for more nation states against nation states as opposed to this clandestine terrorist. We don't really know what this Enemies faces and now we have to use all that you bring up Pearl Harbor and Um Of course, I was born a little bit after that, so I can kind of relate to the kids that have been born. The last 15 years didn't experience it. But I'll never forget. I was working for a man by the name of David Dais Days. Painting company. This is about 1984. And he drops me off at a home in the Kanto Historic district. And says, Um, let me show you what she wants done, and we're going to repaint this basement. I go down in her basement. And she's got. It's like a museum in this basement for the life of me. I cannot remember this woman's name. What about halfway through the morning, I'm finishing prepping and get ready to break out the paint. She comes downstairs with some doughnuts and coffee and we start visiting. She was a survivor. Of Pearl Harbor. And this just happened to be December 7th about 1984 1984. Wow, and she went on for two hours with tears running down her cheeks. Talking about being in the shower in her window in the shower, she could see the harbor. And you watched the entire thing standing in her shower. And, uh, But like you say, that's what we wanted declared war, So that's different than 18 12. Right, Right. It's different, Uh, Japanese, of course, right afterwards or they're making a declaration of war. But there is already tensions worldwide. The axis powers were already formed. War was breaking out in Europe already. It was only a matter of time for America was going into the war and, um Imperial. Japan's aggression was had its ice on American soil to try to stop them from Us from retaliating against them and their expansion. Um, but again, those are geopolitical things that have deep roots in diplomacy and in nation states and those things, whereas terrorism Its ideological and it's, uh it's there to create an emotional reaction to disrupt and destroy not to necessarily conquer what Not so this this book you've brought in. What is that? So I brought in the actually official authorized edition of the 9 11 Commission report is that Is that like riveting reading? It's absolutely nail biting, reading that page Turner They even have a few pictures in it. Um, So you're saying it's government snoozer? It's a true Yes. Um, but the interesting thing about it is the recommendations section in the back. So that's after after, uh, bipartisan committees from Congress investigated 9 11 asked What happened. Can you do better? Those things overwhelmingly. The recommendations come about. Is about unity, more unity of purpose from Congress or unity between agencies sharing information and trying to set up this is where we get the homeland Security the T s a and those things because the idea was to bring together The failures of 9 11 were not that we were unprepared. It's just that we didn't realize that we needed a more unified response and so taking the lessons just from the people around. In their efforts, Congress and this report really comes to a conclusion that the only way that we can be prepared again is with a unity of purpose. And I think that that phrase you don't have purpose is really what Americans were already experiencing in doing. Here's what I want everybody to think about in our last break.

"Sally Struthers said the word pregnant on TV pregnant on TV, it was a big deal. We've reversed in culture. I'm not saying one is better than the other. We're just different now. Now everything is sexual. Everything is sexual. And You can't make any jokes because it's cultural appropriation. You can't even dress a certain way. You know what's funny? Um, one of the the conflict now would be like with the band, the village people. The village people were groundbreaking. You know, it's all gay band back in the eighties, and everybody loved their music. Except everything was cultural, cultural appropriation. They had an Indian. They had a cop. They had a cowboy. They had a construction worker. Everybody was cultural approach. So which is it? Would they be able to fit in now with society? We are. We've lost our minds. The founding documents of this country are not taught, and they should be. And now instead of not only are they not going to be taught, we're teaching people that they are dangerous. We're doomed if we don't reverse course on this kind of stuff, I mean it. You wonder why I say it's the immigrants to this nation that are going to say that this is why, because the people that have lived other places that are truly oppressed that come here for the opportunity and realize what the United States affords them. They want to fight to not let it change. And then people that are born here that figure out ways to construct new problems to have do things like this. It's it's absurd. This is absolutely absurd. Coming up just after 10 o'clock. We're going to talk about the economy. Jobless claims way down. That's a good thing, but tax increases in what's coming next. We're going to talk about that, as the president and the president's going to speak. We'll talk about Covid as well. All that is coming up very, very soon. You know all my friends at Sanderson Ford 66 years here in the Valley. Um I will tell you the difference for me and I've been dealing with them for a long time. I feel like since kevin has all the wise gear or most of the why scare. I'm gonna let kevin answer this question. So i'm going to say right off the bat i think keith observation is spot on. This is strictly my opinion. Just based on looking at what wise has been doing and they've been doing a lot over last year so many products this we were joking about a little earlier in the show but they don't seem to be delivering the promised features were the features that people really want in a timely fashion as keith has noted the cameras those to get updates quite often and they're very useful updates but the other devices keys matches the vacuum which i have not tried the wise watch which did try so many other devices from wise. Just don't get the attention that they really should to be viable products in the smart home and keep people happy. I think right now. It's all about price. People are buying lives for price. And there's nothing wrong with that. But you just have to understand what keith is pointed out and what i have seen because i agree with them. You're not buying these for what they may be able to do. You better be happy with what they can do it launch because you just don't know when additional features are coming. Yeah and i would say what would i say. I don't know what would you say. Kevin you're gonna have to say. Yeah you're right okay in. There's two cents. I only have some outlets. Which do exactly what. I need them to do. And are not fancy. And a scale. Which i don't know i think it got an update some point in time but i never step on it so i never know until it doesn't doesn't matter i could care less. Stolen Moments With Harold Sherrick

"Recoup here on the imbalance history of rock and roll Marcus how you doing not bad. How about yourself today? Well I'm doing good but I'm a little nervous because we're trying something different. Today we're going to combine an episode of five favorites with a studio gas well, not in the studio on zoom? Resuming. With Harold Cherokee, he's got a great book called stolen moments. How many years Herald were in La is a seem to time I was born in La so in La for sixty three years. Only been back here for three years moved back here three years ago. where. Were you living before? While I was living in the San Fernando Valley in Sherman Oaks. Dan Is area that you. which is just just over the hill to Hollywood, which is about fifteen minutes from where I live great place to be mad that close you know was wonderful. As a kid growing up there, where did you live and how did you first start plugging into the whole strip in the scene and everything that was going on there? I was born in L. A. Downtown La but then as a kid. Moved to Glendale California which is just right. Next door. They're nice sleepy little town and I basically grew up there went to high school there the whole bit and was there up until like nine hundred ninety and that I but I moved to the valley when I got married a second time and Just. been there all my life and. I was well connected when I was a kid started going to concerts when I was twelve. I concert was the Beatles. Hollywood ball no. That was all I. I went to the last la which was August. Twenty nineteen, sixty six and that was the Beatles Esta left. Day before the last one, which was candlestick. But that was my first concert. That right in the second row air right there. Six dollars? Ticket dollars can you actually hear the Beatles because? I HAVE THEM IN DC and said, the girls were screaming so loud that she couldn't hear the Beatles from where she was sitting in the stadium Yakking you know here and there it wasn't obviously crystal clear. You did have screamed grounding out of most of the time, but you could hear your somewhat mind blown dude, that's all I wanNA say or I'll deal mind-blowing. Well, that'll be a great entry into rock and roll life for anyone. And Talk to us a little bit about the book you were taking pictures around the L. A. Seen for quite a number of years in have some stunning captures in this book in all, it was going to concerts as a kid I used to play around with little Brownie camera when I was nine and ten years old and so eventually when I was able to graduate up to actually getting a decent camera which was. Like nineteen, Seventy, eight, seventy, nine, eighty at one. I really started pushing myself into the into the scene as best I could. It's all proven yourself in the beginning paying your dues you know you're not getting paid when you start out, it wasn't the solely for the money was the for the love of the whole thing. I always had a visual of capturing a great moment. You know whether it was in concert or meeting. Somebody in a hotel room that's what I started doing. Did you build a black and white dark room in your house? My father had a black and white dark room. Yeah. I didn't my house. I had a friend that helped me out a lot a couple of friends that end our rooms and I would bring my films as soon as I shot it the next morning I was there almost at the crack of dawn. We gotta get this process you know right away. That's awesome. You know would do the proof sheets and then big out of print I'd have sometimes I'd have to send something out right away most of the time in the beginning, it was just doing it and getting it done. So I could actually look at what I shot. That's all part of the beginning anyway trial and error is how you learn from a day to day thing you know 'cause I'm self taught I didn't go to school for it and I just I always wanted to do that. You know just take pictures because my father. Was, a newspaper man you were for hearst for the Herald, examiner in La A., and that's how I of got into it. When I was a kid was he would always take me down to the office I used to look at all the photos and the photo room with saga offers, and then I go to the pressroom and watch the paper roll off the presses at night with the greatest greatest experience you know the newspaper game sets how I got into want shoot black and white for falls. What was the first concert? You Shot Elvis Presley Whoa. Seventy six year before he died he he never he didn't come to L. A. and seventy-six closes. He came Long Beach Arena and I had tickets through a friend who is very well connected into Elvis and getting good tickets. So we had some really good seats and that time I think I'd be twenty five bucks to see John a few pictures. They didn't really come out that well. So that's why nothing has really been seen on that because I nothing came out that good at all.
