And i had to kind of like almost feel like i had to go sit in a different share or something. You know something to change it up. Because i'm not used to having actually write about those guys that play on the defensive side but but it is it is interesting. This is where the turnover has come from. Yeah he make this point very early in her piece this is. This is the area where they've done the most. This is the area where they've said goodbye to more icon players over the last year and a half. This is an area that for me as far bigger question mark. Because i come back to this all right best case are they going to be a great defense. No are they going to be a top ten defense. No so best case there are middle of the pack. Maybe bottom in the middle of the pack which okay. Fine if you give me that. Then i think joe burrow got a chance. I've done the very very simple equation of defensively. I think they gave up twenty six point two points per game last year if that can come back by three points and they could increase their points per game out output by the offense by three points. They're gonna have close to a five hundred team. I would settle for that. But best case is rarely the most likely case. And so what i do. Fear is that there's still at least very distinct possibility that this season is littered with thirty eight to thirty five losses. Because they can't stop anybody. Maybe i i tend to really like a lot of the things they did defensively and there's the unknowns of trying to put it all together i mean the term. We've been using lot microwaving the defense i mean they're just trying just throws what we're doing in this room right. Yeah yeah this is not a soft defrost wearing towels. Yeah but they're trying to they're trying to put all the pieces. I liked the pieces trying to put them all back to get. And here's the thing dislike anything they did from a personnel standpoint. What i don't know besides jesse bay to the difference makers can be well. Here's the problem is they. Were getting they were getting zero. And i mean as close to zero as possible production from your to into your defensive pass rushers and when that's the case you got nothin' did we not just spend the last decade talking about how gino atkins was the absolute game changer. "To target with his newly reported cap space that they created by restructuring? Stefan takes country You look at the free agent corners who are out there. It's you know, it's Richard Sherman, Steve Nelson. Then you get guys like DJ Hayden, then Josh Norman. Buster screen. Brian Poole, Michael Davis for Shot Breeland, You know, really good player, right? And some of these guys guarding the caliber United, you know, we know their names. You know. Nicole Roby Coleman, Nichelle Roby Coleman. Um We know their names, but the Bills Pro Personnel department know these guys. And they'll know which guy what his strengths and weaknesses are. What kind of guy he is. They'll have a whole file on him, and they'll have a dossier on whether he fits their scheme or not. So some of these guys are probably Off the list because they don't fit the scheme. Some of them. Will fit in a in a big way. And that and this list Particularly after June 1st. Becomes a little bit more little bit. Maurin expensive. Well, yeah, the price tag because much more palatable, especially for a team like Buffalo who doesn't have gobs of money to hand out, although they have more, but they'll get it now thinking one of these guys on a one year deal as well like they do. Let's go to the phones at 803 Oh, 5 51 885 52 5 50 open line for you there and we bring Colin in Cheektowaga on Colin when you have for us here on one bill's life. Hey, I think that we should really go hard for Todd Gurley just bringing that veteran power back for the red zone in those short, first down that we really need Using that kind of what Zach Moss is here for. I'm just gonna play Devil's Advocate with you, Colin. Yeah, Yeah, he fumbles a little bit. He message the ball up a little bit. He's not as big A little young, but Todd Gurley's had veteran power back that I think could really get the job done. All right, So you're going to go on running back? That's interesting. All right, thanks for the call. I don't mean you signed Matt Brita. He's not a He's not. He doesn't fit the description of what Colin is looking for, but I think that's why Zach Moss is here. Yeah, to do that stuff between the tackles Hard yards Red zone running. Yeah, I get the point. You wanna big? You want a big running back at some point? I'm still I'm still dead. Just a simmer back there and handed the ball big back. That's the biggest guy banging that I'm banging that drum. He's got such speed for a guy his size, and I don't know. I don't know if he can't even hold a football. I'm laughing, but That's really into his athleticism is really intriguing to me and his ability to run in the open field and That's where I met on the big back scenario. Imagine is a rugby player. You can't he would plow people. Guys. Yeah, but that's I. I hear that about the running back. And yeah, that's a that's a. I think that's a kind of a niche player. And if you're gonna have a niche player guy for sure you already is in the hard yards clearing cast cap space for a guy like that, and they're probably Cem. Guys. We we've never heard of big running backs out of college is the stuff they're young and fresher than Todd Gurley, who's been fighting a bad knee for six years. Yeah, I'm I see what you're saying. They didn't clear up this space for a guy like that. That's just that's the way you clear up cap space to this degree for a starting caliber. Yes, edition. That's correct. Yeah, that's right. And Todd Gurley as good as he is in his and his resume is being what it is. Um I don't know that that's him anymore. He was very good. A couple of years ago, I was in the You know the Rams run to the Super Bowl of stuff. But even then Yeah. There's a reason he bounces around. Let's go back to the phones in 803. Oh, 5 51 8885 52 5 50 open line for you there, but we go to gym in Amherst next year. What do you have for us? You're on one bill's life. Hey, guys, Jim, from Amherst. How you doing today? Good. Good. Here's my thought. Thought is. What are we going to need My concern. You guys brought it up last week. Start coming back. And I have a feeling stares not coming back after that, your Ah So are we looking for that defense of tackle? The guy from Caroline. I think Scott's his last name Cohen shorten it short short. That's it. Thanks to you, and then I'm also thinking we still are gonna have a little bit more money for Earth's Um, where your thoughts I like that. Yeah. I mean, I It's funny that you mention that Jim and thanks for the call, because the three positions I wrote down when I said okay. What's the 7.84? I wrote down tight end Cornerback and the third position I wrote down was defensive tackle. Um Star last week was not here at voluntary O T. A S That status could could have changed this week. We don't know. We'll know more tomorrow when there is media access to practice where people will be head counting at that point in time. And I think on the part of fans, it sounds like there is some measure of concern. Either A when Star comes back. What does he look like? Is a player. You know how much rust Kenny knockoff? Is He the same guy or Aziz. Jim just expressed you coming back at all. Right? I imagine the bills have Had conversations of that nature with him, But you know, you look at the free agent market. A defensive tackle Gino Atkins is at the top of the list. Geo actions complain, but he's 33 had a bad injury Last year, Kalon short 32 from Carolina did he had injury problems. Last General Casey 32 from Den played in Denver last year. Sheldon Richardson 31 out of Cleveland. Corey Peters. 33 years old Aaron, Arizona, Avery Jones from Jacksonville. He's 30 years old Beau Allen 30 years old from New England shall be Harris from Denver, 30 years old. Austin Johnson 27 years old from the Giants. Jack Crawford, Daniel McCullers. Beaumont Dome atop Echo Damon, Damon Harrison, Mike Pennell, Xavier Williams. Also you're going down. I mean, There's a lot of guys available, but not at that price tag. Not that price tag in the top guys or In their thirties. Yeah, Actions missed most of last season with bad shoulder injury. So, um,.

NFL cuts expected to be a ‘massacre,’ ‘bloodbath’ next week

"We are on the fringe. We're nearing free agency. Actually just read a very interesting to tweet about a nfl coach. Saying that next week was gonna be a bloodbath. with the cap situation Do the covid that it's going to be a very interesting year. A lot of people are going to be getting cut prior to free agency to free up room. So we'll see what happens In you know the free agents were talking about might not even be like the big guys you know we end up signing at the end of the day so one big name we have been talking about and you specifically talked about this guy. Quite a bit is joni From new england the patriots are not going to use the franchise on him again. They can't do it. They they're cap situation would allow forward. I believe but with what you end up making the second time around. It really doesn't make any sense to them. As i was listening to boston. Sports radio their day like they were talking about that. Very topic so loonies. He's a big name. being fans. Love is a big often. Attack was out there And they've got to think about bringing their own guys. Back to william jackson in kara lawson entering free agency. So that's a big big names in some big money right there. What what can really afford to do. So that you you hit the list You hit you hit the big players. They're they have of course two big guys. Internally that are scheduled to be free agents in jackson and lawson one of those may end up getting the franchise tag. Probably the non-exclusive. If i had a bad at this point i'd probably say it's carl lawson and and we don't know the exact figures yet but they'll come out soon what the values will be But it's based position and since deandre get paid a little bit more than corners. Speed deanne tag is going to be a little higher. But i think that's a cost of the bengals are willing to take just to avoid the risk of losing carl. Potentially at an already weakened spot you know masterpass russia's spin has been existent Especially last year And i think room on bengals dot com had a couple of comments today from an article today saying they're looking to shore up the pass rush and he didn't mention actually edge rusher cement of course interior pressure which was good to see liu mentioned and we can talk about some interior linemen. Who are going to be on the market that could provide some interior. Pass rush to collapse the pocket if you will but to your question about what. They can't afford i. There is a way for them to structure these contracts with the amount of space that they have available. Of course we don't know what official cap will be just like we don't know what the tag amounts are going to be. We don't really know the final numbers quite yet. We know the cap can't go below one eighty But let's assume it stays right at that floor. I been under the working on the assumption that it's going to creep up to one eighty five rather optimistically but who knows if it gets that high. Is you mentioned kobe. Kobe tope took all essentially all the local revenues that these teams generated and made it two zero for almost all of them. There are some teams based on the cities and state. They were in that allowed some attendance. That really you know. It was a small percentage of what a normal season would be. So they're sitting in a good spot. Relatively speaking in terms of current cap space. There are about thirty seven million once you account for the almost eleven million. They rolled over last year. So at that point if they just stay there. They're they're currently line to be seventh most in cap space and that's a lot to work with in terms just resigning those guys internally and then going out on the market for tuning type of player ariba some more mid tier guys in the bond bell mold last year. You know a more of a modest deal where you get a lot of value in that regard but if they ended up staying put without making cuts and being seventh and cap space that gives them a lot of flexibility. But i think to your earlier point. We are gonna start seeing a lot more cut. We started seeing some today. There were some report. I think gave jackson the right guard for the raiders is not. There's a report that they they're looking to trade their right tackle trent brown. If they can't find a trade partner they'll likely cut him too. So the market's going to be flooded. It's going to be starting to be flooded. It's going to be even more so and on the bengals and they're likely to make some calm cap cuts. They don't need to make them because they have plenty of room. But just the value is not there to keep some of these guys on the books. You know the names. Bobby heart which will save just under five point nine million. Bj phinney will save three and a quarter million with no dead money and then of course geno atkins. We've talked about the gino situation Pretty at length and the question will be whether they released him. Post june one or or designated or releasing prior to june one or designate him or our releasing post you one which adds a little bit more savings to it but if you cut those three guys even if you don't cut gino with a post june one designation that adds about nine million in addition In additional cap space. So if you had that. Nineteen to thirty seven. Obviously naira almost sixty million and fifty six million give or take And that would baltim- in the top five of capital so they have a lot of flexibility to enter the long-term extensions with both their internal free and to go out on the market and signs of sizeable Upgrades hopefully on the offense line and positions that they they really need to

"J. Green and Gino Atkins be the latest to go and Bangles quote. Changing of the guard. I think it's pretty clear AJ has played his final game is a Bengal probably Close to being clear his day that Gino Atkins has played his final game as a bangle and think about it. Um Zach, Centering. Your three we talk about Coach is coming in and wanting their guys. And we talk about turnover in the changing of the guard. Dunlap is out a J Green will probably be out show of hands. Is everybody okay? With Gino Atkins being out? If if they move on from him, they're going to save about 9.5 million if they cutting this off season. What would you rather roll the dice again with Gino Atkins? At age what 31 is? You know 32 yet coming off the surgery? Is there more It becomes a matter of production. What would you rather have the money? Or the player that the money to you someplace else in another way, or the veteran presence and the experience and the hope you get enough production out of it. No. Dunlap know, AJ Gino's probably gone. Bobby Hart potentially gone. Sean Williams is going to be gone. John Ross is gonna be gone. I could make the case depending on what you did in the draft, although probably much lesser case. CJ use aama. Others cringe when the name Giovanni Bernard is mentioned is moving on from him. This team moved on from Andy Dalton. They moved on from Georgia Loca. They moved on from dark West Denard. There's a lot of turnover here in the changing to get their guys. Geno's got two years left on his deal. Would you rather have the money or two more years of Gino Atkins? I'd rather have the money. I'd rather have the money and look at the prospects of a healthy DJ reader and I think very under how do I want to say this undervalued or under realized Josh to Po, Um, sat out last season, he opted out. I'm not saying he's Gino Atkins. Although Might say, based on Gino's age in the coming season, coming off the surgery. If you were to put the productions of Gino versus Josh to Po together and looked at the price, I think I'd rather have Josh to poet his money. Potential production than Gino Atkins all take the money and hey, to use a Redd's term. I will reallocate the money someplace else on this roster. Because they are moving forward in a window of Joe Burrows contract and moving forward in the window of a rookie quarterback contract is a pivotal point for this franchise. This is no longer about as much as some may want it want it to be. It's no longer about rewarding players for past performances or clinging to the past. This is about Money to use To get They're guys. They're being this coaching staff and plug it in to win. Going forward with Joe Borough. What potentially can they do with Gino Atkins for the next two years? Versus what could they do with that 9.6 million to spend in another way? I will say that surprised this morning and reading another piece on ESPN, where they ask each of the beat writers around the NFL in offseason prediction for all 32 teams. A bold one. This was the bold one from Ben Baby on the Bangles. William Jackson. The third gets a massive contract. And curl. Lawson walks who Ben Wright. Cincinnati has yet to see how the defense looks with Jackson and Trae Waynes as the starting corners. We'll look in a perfect world. I'd love to have William Jackson the third and Trey Wayne's is my corners. But it's not a perfect world. It's a salary cap world. This team had 17 sacks last season. Um Consider what this depth chart looks like if Carl Lawson leaves in free agency. Sam Hubbard on and then You're on the hook to Trae Waynes. You overpaid to get him last year, and that's it about 14 year. Do you realize what the going rate is for corners? I mean, your top corner on Jalen Ramsey is getting 21 year. True, Davis White getting 17.5 million a year. Darius Slaves getting 16.7 million this coming season..

Trey Wayne Sam Hubbard Carl Lawson Gino Atkins Trae Waynes Jackson Sean Williams William Jackson Joe Borough John Ross Ben Wright Andy Dalton Jalen Ramsey Bobby Hart Giovanni Bernard J. Green Gino 9.6 million J Green Joe Burrows

"With safeties were literally 30 yards off the ball. Explain that theory it And how much do you think that that mess Mahomes up? Oh, it first of all traffic in the homes had never seen the type of rush or recently hadn't seen that type of pressure where he had to scramble and by carrying those safety. They stay on the hash marks. So you have 22 safeties on the hash mark, and they just say is deepest possible. Your cornerbacks play what's called the flat area and they're responsible for The run and just things that come out in the flight, but where they were so good is that pass rush? This allowed Kansas City. They have that big strike and when you have those trunk plays Number one is the moralizing and number two. You're having that change of possession change the field. You know, Kansas City could score a lot of points, but it's just what they called it. The Tampa two and this is a basic defense is it's a defense this random, high school college and it's really basic, but the key can you gotta have the personnel to play it. And you gotta have the pass rush that protecting the back in Yeah. Pass Rush was unbelievable. I mean, they run that they run that defense and I look at it there, Linebacker I'm telling Devon White Is a player. I would put him on any one of my football teams I ever coach. He is just a flat out player. I love his game all their linebackers Avery good. And a secondary. You know, Tim, they're not great. I mean, they're they're They're okay. 20 four's a good player. They were talking about how he's got good closing speed. He got picked on a lot this year, but you know, they're not. They're not outstanding in the secondary, but they really don't have to be because of that front seven. Do they? Though they don't and that's the whole key. If you're going to be weak on the back end like Tampa is they don't play man to man. They know they don't blitz a lot, but their front seven is so dominant at the line of scrimmage that you can again protect those players on the back end. You did not see them call for their quarterbacks to play Tyreek Hill or or Travis Kelsey one on one What they did. They play kind of a bad bracket coverage, and they just did not let them get behind them and have that big. Those big plays. Tyree Kill seven catches 73 yards. I think when they met in week, 12 years, something like 208 yards. It was I mean, they really cap down on it. Patrick Holmes is amazing. I that that guy can make plays. I've never seen anyone make falling down, throwing it. A lot of it was just here. Let me throw this thing and see if somebody can catch it. Rather than take a snap a sack. But again, I think we see How important an offensive line is and to draw a parallel here in Cincinnati. If there was ever a compelling reason. Why why to take what this offensive line and the inadequate L offensive line. It's been since the departure of Andrew Whitworth. If we ever needed anything else to tell us what happens when you don't have players to block to allow place to develop If it wasn't Joe Burrow getting hurt. It was last night because they took the most effective quarterback in the NFL and neutered that guy. I think it just highlights here. They better get busy starting today, either with free agency drafting trading, whatever it may be. To rebuild that offensive line, and you saw the opposite with Tampa. Tampa's offensive line was terrific. I think this was yet another indication of what the Bangles absolutely have to do this offseason. There's no question about it. First of all the best office of line. Are the outfits alignment that don't get talked about because they're doing their job. That's number one number two. If you if you go back to yesterday's game, the one thing we were Clamoring that we were hoping and praying and wishing that didn't happen is my home gets hurt, especially at the latter part of the game. It was a saying It was kind of days are good job, bro. Get him out of the game. OK, the game's over with because he is getting absolutely annihilated. So once again, there's one way to neutralize. Great quarterback, and that's having him throwing under pressure and he was under oppressive the entire night, which again like you said it is so important for the Bangles to understand and accept. Their discretion at the offensive line and not to be their focal point of the off season as it pertains to free agency draft and developed and development of that last aspect that we definitely need to happen. You can get him in here. But if you don't develop them to be good players, well, what did that do? You just got names and body so They're going to have to do that. They're gonna have to get these guys all on the same page. But definitely upgrade needs to happen because you can't just start players and Joe Mixon and Joe Burrows and You just There's so much from the from the skills for this is that they have, but you can't utilize them if you don't have those big guys up front. That's exactly right. We're chatting with Tim McGee. The glorious number 85 here is we talk about the Super Bowl yesterday. I think it's stunned. A lot of people. All of the majority the bets online and in Vegas were on Kansas City, but the heavy money was on Tampa so the smart guys must have known something, Tim You sound foolish sometimes when you get on the radio, which, for me is almost all the time And you say things like, Well, the Bangles are only a couple of players or they need to do this. If they do this, all of a sudden, they're a different team. And but it's true. They have their have their franchise quarterback. I mean, you first of all, you have to have that if you don't, then you're just in a wilderness. But I think it just highlights And if you're ju dishes, if you're if you're lucky, first of all with injuries, and you don't have DJ reader get hurt like he did this year. You don't have Gino Atkins play limited playing time like he played this year. If you're if you're judicious with your drafting, and as you say you're developing and you get a little bit of luck with injury, and the bucket here certainly did this year. I think the only major injury that team has they lost tight and O. J. Howard very early in the season, but they're really in the NFL. You're not that far away. If you're strong and key positions, the Bangles have a wealth of things to him. We know they're wide receivers. We know Joe Mixon. We know Joe Burrow. We know on defense. They've got some wonderful players. Jesse Bates is a terrific player reader, I think could have been a a mega star this year if he had stayed healthy. They're not that far away, but they gotta play the game. Smart..

"Zac's answer was and you can understand him taking this approach wanted. Unlike making predictions, he said. We certainly have to get a lot better in a lot of areas in Windsor number one. I'm really excited about this off season in the work we're going to put in to make sure our team improves and put all these pieces together. To have a great year. That's our expectation. We had those expectations this year and we had opportunities, so it's on us to make sure we make the most of those opportunities this year. What has to happen in 2021 to view the season as its success? Well, in no particular order? Well, I'll start with the most important job. Burroughs got to be healthy. And then Joe Burrows. Gotta be kept healthy. He's gonna be kept standing up, clean protected, protect the investment. They're gonna have to figure out a way to pressure the quarterback get pressure on the quarterback in some way, shape or form they're going to have to if I can backtrack one. If they're going to do that, with Joe, That's obviously going to be what everybody is viewing the most important factor in the offseason addressing the offensive line in the draft in free agency, perhaps both they're gonna have to take some swings and they can't be swings and misses and free agency. They have to be swings and they have to be extra base hits in free agency. I'm not so sure it doesn't have to. The first one doesn't have to be a home run in free agency, and they're gonna have to take some swings and deliver extra base hits in the draft again. His team won two games two years ago. Four games this year in answering the question what has to happen in 2021? For exact view? The season is a success. If all of those air done all of those must be done, and then success will be a winning season as the first step beyond that, If it's nine or 10 wins, the rest is out of your control in terms of Whether you're gonna make the playoffs or not, But there's a lot of interesting questions inside of all of that, and I hit on someone with J, including William Jackson, third or Carl Lawson. Everybody wants the Bangles to go big and go bold and free agency and they did a year ago for $150 million in free agency, and the results were mixed bag, but they've got to. They've got to figure out how they're going to approach. William Jackson, the third and Carl Lawson. It is a passing league. If it's a passing league to defend that you're gonna have to get pressure on the quarterback and be able to cover and the less pressure on the quarterback. The longer you have to cover. Good luck. If they can't figure out a way. Keep Carl Lawson, you are down to Sam Hubbard. Yikes on a team that already had trouble getting to the quarterback. If you can't keep William Jackson the third you've got Trae Waynes, who? A year ago, They invested three years $42 million in. Unfortunately, he never took a snap because he toward the pectoral pectoral muscle. But you've also got a Darius Phillips and a couple other lesser options. But if it's what are the other and I don't know, Maybe it's Maybe it's one gets signed an extension one gets tagged. I don't know how likely that is because the tag is such a big number with what they're gonna have to get done this offseason, But if you make it one of the other Want Carl Lawson over William Jackson, the third I'll take the guy who can be disruptive. Now. You could argue that Carl Lawson, the switch has to stay flipped and on more often, there will be burst and flashes. And there will be moments where you think he looks so good. You think they'll never be able to afford him in free agency. The guy's a monster. And then there's stretches. Where you say, Where did Carl Lawson go? And yet he's still young. What 25 years old Andre Asses? Muchas it is a cover league. William Jackson the third to me. In his first year you were like, Oh, yeah, Man, The graph the church for this guy. This guy's got a trend up and up it up and just get better. And there were moments in the past couple of years where William Jackson just if he wasn't hurt. He was just kind of He was just there. And you can't just be there you get you gotta make plays. I mean, he's a reputation in Houston was he got his hands on the ball. He batted out a lot of passes. He picked off a lot of passes. He was a playmaker, and he just he hasn't made Don't think he's made the place that you would have thought a first round corner would have made to this point. So if it's one of the other, it's Carl Lawson. You know what else has to take place in order for this season to be successful? Their best players have to play their best. But I go back to what just happened this past season And if you look simply from a Monetary standpoint, a cap standpoint of what they spent. The chunk of the cap it took up. And what they got in return. The classic return on investment mean AJ Green $18 million What did they get out of a J. Green? I think there were four weeks he did not have a catch during the season. Gino Atkins. Next at 14.2 Million. What do they get out of Gino Atkins? Zip zilch. Nata, limited snaps and one pressure. I think one tackle the entire season. DJ reader got hurt the big offseason investment. He'll be back had the thigh injury, but that was 10 Million. They spent Trae Waynes 10 million counted this year. Bobby Hart, Don't even get me started. Carlos Dunlap. Don't even get me started there. And I mean, that's 1234. Those air six guys those of the six biggest cap hits and what what production did they get combined out of Green Atkins Reader, Wayne's Heart and Dunlap and you can't win in the NFL. If your best players don't perform their best. Release your highest paid players in theory, your best players because you're devoting that kind of money to him. But you had. You know, Sean Williams didn't play much. His cap. It was around five. You know, John Ross around five million. See Jay Oussama got hurt. He was closer to six million. Joe mixing got hurt, and we didn't hear from him. For what? The final how many games of the season and that was about four million on the cap. Jonah Williams got hurt. I don't want to say again, but but he got hurt, So that's a big stack of talent..

"What will drone on into the point we get to the middle of the draft, and then by the time the draft comes around, the Bangles will probably have signed. Somebody in free agency will use the number five overall pick on a player who had a great college career Regardless of what position that is, though, don't get high marks in the draft from the people who grade such things because they always do. And by about the Saturday morning of the NFL draft, you'll find no shortage of people who are convinced this team's gonna win 11 games Theo excitements going to come. I deal with this every single year. By the time it doesn't matter who the coach is, it doesn't matter who's on the lost her. It doesn't matter who the quarterback is. The one turns midway to the off season and it will this year and that's largely going to be fueled by what we hope our positive updates. Joe Burrow and look, the Bangles have their quarterback. They have the guy now. Can they protect him? Is he gonna come back? Healthy for week? 1 100%. Are there gonna be any lingering issues? I certainly hope not. There's the peace now around the piece. How do you build exact? Taylor, the coach that can bring out the most on Joe bro? I will say this and defensive Zach that for everything that you can point to and say he's not the guy Joe Bro's rookie rollout went quite well. And, you know, I think you have to give Zach the offensive coaches a degree of credit for that. But to me, it Zamora about organizationally. They're offensive line has been bad for five years. It was bad this year. Their defense has been bad for a number of seasons. I don't think there's a true difference maker on that side of the ball. Maybe, aside from Jesse Bates, who plays a position that the Bangles themselves Have never really valued that much. I don't think aside from that there's anybody who scares opposing team's offensive coordinators. Carl Lawson is certainly a piece moving forward, but their pass rush this season was an absolute mess that Joe Mixon contract. I think you can wonder about the wisdom that went into giving him $48 million when that money could probably better be used. On the offensive line on the defense held our healthiest Joe Mixon going to be moving forward to me. This is not to absolves act of any blame or it's not even to say that he should be the coach next year. Anything teams that moves on from a guy who's 6 25, and one can't be blamed. But there's two things number one. Are we really sure that the Cincinnati Bengals are gonna hire somebody better? And Jack Taylor and against along with that are the best most qualified in the world. Do they want to come to Cincinnati and work for Mike Brown worked for Do Tobin Watch Game film with Troy, Katie and Mike every Monday morning? I don't think the answer to that question is yes, and then number two Willy for years. There's been severe roster shortcomings two seasons ago, This team had one of the worst defense is in the history of the National Football League. Over the last 32 games. They haven't gotten appreciably better. Theofanis of line started becoming an issue in 2016. We've turned the calendar to 2021 3 offense of line is is still initiative. Um, they they have handed out contracts and haven't worked out to guys like Gino Atkins and AJ Green and Carlos Dunlap. Great players in this histories in this franchise is history. But guys who haven't played to their previous level while they've been being paid Maura than their previous levels. Are they going to continue to do that? Are they really going to bring back Gino Atkins? Or they're gonna save his money and apply it elsewhere on the roster. What? Who are they going to replace the departed coaches with? Are they going to go and get a defensive coordinator who is better and more qualified than Lou in a room? Oh, is the structure of the play calling going to remain the same. Where is active? The coach and the primary play clothes because it feels like that has unnecessarily worked. There's a lot of questions. Obviously, Zach is his apartment. Those answers and he's a part of those questions. But we're godless of what they did was act regardless of what they did with their head coach. To me. Those are all of the other questions that have to be asked. And to me that step that that goes well beyond simply whether or not Jack should come back in 2021. I would ask him if he was let go today. I'm asking them now, knowing he's going to come back for the next 1st 13. Right now, Let's turn the page. I've had many talk about Luke Fickell. Good man, your friend. I met him a couple times excited with him. Tell me why. Third and two With the most exciting finish, but exciting game the undefeated You see season on the line. Why do you try to run a trick play, which is a pass instead of simply running the ball to take 40 seconds off the clock, which would probably win the game? Well that hunt Luke Fickell for the rest of his professional career. I don't think it's gonna haunt Luke Fickell for the rest of his professional career. I think he would be the first to tell you probably more privately than publicly that that is a place that is worthy of being second guessed and looked. A lot of us were first guessing it. I was there in Atlanta. Dan Horde on the radio broadcast prior to the third into place said something to the effect of you know, the last thing in the world you want here is an incompletion. Well, the past fell incomplete. That's the last thing in the world you want. Um, that was the first guest that was That was something that, Dan said before the play was run, And I think most of us or sort of unknown in the same frame of mind that at the very least, Let's let's assume that they would have turned it over. Let's assume there's not gonna be a fumble. But let's assume there's not gonna be something completely disastrous. Let's look at the most likely downside of attempting to pass. It's incomplete, the clock stops. The most likely downside of a running play. Not working is You're going to kill a bunch of time on the clock. You're next snap of the football is going to come with 48 seconds to go. And with that defense, and even if you choose the punch, I think most their cat fans would have felt pretty good at that point. Plus for me, you have the best. Running quarterback in college football. The Cleveland Browns did this yesterday up 24 22, but they had a third and one plate of ice the game If they convert the game's over. They had Baker Mayfield run to the right. He picked up about a yard and a half game over Cleveland goes to the postseason. I would have loved to, I would love to be able to go back and try Desmond litter on the ground once One, even if you punt on fourth down one time, and I just can't help but think that they he would have converted and be. But even if he wouldn't have Georgia, who had no timeouts would have run out of time. All right. Lastly, what organization is in worse shape. You see Bear cat basketball. The Bangles, the Reds or F.

"We go till 1989 tonight off the beaten path topic offered up in the eight o'clock hour. I do believe Sterling is in tonight. It'll be good to see him from nine to midnight one more time. One more time. Here's Joe Burrow yesterday with Colin Cowherd. Ask about his relationship and his thoughts on his head coach Zach Taylor. You know, I think that is is gonna be a great coach for a long time. You know, I'm happy to be in the position that I'm in and tow helped build this organization. But it's going to be on sax back. He's He's the leader of what we're trying to do, and he's awesome. He's the leader of what we're trying to do. He's awesome. He's going to be great for a long time. That's QB one on the head coach that Mike Brown elected to bring back this week. My poll question on Twitter earlier today at Lance McAllister. Do you agree with the Bengals decision to bring Zach Taylor back for his third season? I would have not come close on guessing this number running at over 3000 votes right now. I don't think I would have come within 25% of what this vote looks like right now because it's about a coin flip. 48% say yes, they agree. 52% say no, they do not agree with Zach Taylor coming back. I'm fine. I'm fine with them coming back for another year. Think 2021 is a put up or pack up your for him. I don't think he would survive one and 31 and four start. I think if he starts one or 31, and for that we're going to see Darrin Simmons coach the team for the rest of the season. Um there. Are there multiple angles here. That and multiple Kurds I can play on this. One. And these are not excuses. These are this is the reality of the situation. He had a rookie quarterback. Who got hurt. I guess I'd ask you to go back the day job. Earl got hurt. What were your expectations for the rest of the year? Just that simple question Just did this from there. The day job. Earl got hurt. It was done for the season. What did you think was going to happen to the Bengals for the rest of the year? With no T A's with no preseason Dealing as all teams did with the pandemic, with AH lot of new faces in free agency Vittel out of injuries. Oh, by the way, an off season where they spent more money than they had in the history of the Bengals franchise in free agency, $150 million plus to bring in players What did you anticipate what happened during this season with Joe Burrow done for the year? Joe Mixon done for the year, Jonah Williams missing the back part of the year. CJ Usana done for the year Xavier So it has to a fellow done for the year or and then returning DJ reader after what week three done for the year. Trae Waynes big money for Agent Corner never took a snap. Gino Atkins played with one arm tied behind his back thanks to a shoulder injury Throughout the course of the season, Carlos Dunlap packed it up and didn't feel like playing. What did you anticipate? With all of that going on this season would look like I'm fine, with Zach Taylor coming back for a third season. At the same time, I would wonder if you're going to move on from what upwards of I've lost track of the number and still haven't officially been announced. But if you're gonna move on from many as five coaches What are you gonna be able to bring in? If the perception is as I think we view it that Zach better when this year is coming season or he's done. What do you think you're gonna be able to bring in from that standpoint, and certainly if you were going to move on from, let's just say, for argument's sake, Lou had a room. Oh, Who in the right mind or or Better put who of quality Would that have said What? Wait. You want me to be your defensive coordinator? In your third season. Where if we don't win? Your fired and then I'm left in limbo. Why? What I do that if I have options with other teams and a resume that says I can coach in other spots The lame duck effect of it all. But I don't believe those are. I know they will be viewed as by some those will be viewed as excuses that everybody in the NFL gets hurt or every team in the NFL deals with injuries granted. But what was a reasonable expected? I think this is reasonable and I kind of said it tongue in cheek. A to midway point of the season. This was before Joe got hurt. With Rocky. I said, You know the way the second half of the season goes. There's winnable games there. I said, I could make the argument depending on whether Baltimore needs the final game of the season, I could see the Bangles winding up 87 and one now that was me that that's typical me, Mr. Optimistic, Mr Mr Happy but Whether it was eight. I thought it was feasible. This team could have chased with a healthy job. Earl could have chased 678 wins, probably more to seven or eight wins that would have topped the over in Vegas of 5.5. And that's the ultimate will never know. But man I.

"To the Anthony Munoz Foundation. A lot of kids are going to benefit by that. Congratulations to all involved. That is awesome. This is the Bangles Line show and 700 wlw. I'll tell you something else. That was awesome. Baltimore Ravens running game yesterday. Second and to officially for the Ravens. Huntley turns left hands it off to Dobbins. He runs for the first down, gets away from Pratt sprinting downfield to the 40, the 30, the 20, the 10 and the former Buckeye go 72 yards for a touchdown. As the Ravens continue to pour it on part of a 160 yard rushing performance, and only 13 carries for former Ohio State running back JK Dobbins. Lamar Jackson had 97 rushing yards before leaving late in the third quarter. He went up and over 1000 rushing yards for the season. 1969 the Bangles second year of existence. They gave up 313 yards on the ground to the Kansas City Chiefs. That was the record for most rushing yards allowed by the Cincinnati Bengals. Well, it's no longer the record and the new record is almost 100 yards. Higher. They gave up more than 400 yards 404 on the ground yesterday. It's interesting that the Bangles are the record holder Corey Dillon being the highlight going for four or seven, and then they gave up the number to itself again. Another Charles Dickens thing, the best of times the worst of times. I mean, it's It's ironic that the franchise is involved in Two of the 3 400 Yard games that are spoken about those are rare in the Super Bowl air in the Super Bowl era. Those rare I mean and and for this franchise to be on the good side and the bad side. I guess speaks speaks volumes toe. There have been some good times, and there've been some terrible times and everything in between. Here's Here's the sad truth. As I mentioned Lamar Jackson came out late in the third quarter had he stayed in had Baltimore needed to continue. To score for whatever reason. Who knows how many rushing yards the Bangles might have given up? It was 3 50 at the end of the third quarter, and so you know, I mean, you're thinking that zoo over over 120 yards a quarter Yeah. You have 120 yards to it. That's 4 70. You know if you average it out, Yeah, they could have been creeping up for 5500 yards very easily. It's it's crazy. Bangles have not stopped the run well for several years now. They tried to address that through free agency. Last year, they went out and signed DJ Reader. Unfortunately, his season ended after four games. Gino Atkins was never Gino Atkins. We don't know if he'll be back. Next year. They tried to sign some guys on the perimeter. That would be a good run stoppers. Trae Waynes never played Mackenzie Alexander did, but he wasn't in there. Yesterday s O. For starters. They've got to get some of those guys back. But they also could need to continue to add personnel up front. That's going to be a huge priority. It is and there's another guy Grinnell Ren. Would like to have him yesterday. He's a big body guy that plays the run pretty darn well and he and DJ reader same injury, you know, Quadricep tendon that ruptures. I mean, have to those in the same position group in the same season. And I mean, there's there's a black cloud of injury. Just Harvard around this this franchise and You know, you spend a ton of money on Trae Waynes. You don't even know what you got yet. I mean, he hurt himself. Lifting weights towards pectoral had that surgery and detached. It didn't just tear it. Detach. The pectoral has to have surgery, Attaching That Zama attic. That's a that is that a new, unbelievable injury to sustain in a weight room working out in the off season, not just pulling Peck the attaching surgical repair out for the year that stuffs crazy and you wonder when it will go away. You know when they'll be able to Ah, Every coach in the National Football League. Their dream is you're never gonna have everybody leave training camp with But the teams that are usually successful and I can speak to. I know the team that I played on the 81 82 team that had success went to Super 16. When we broke training camp. We thought we were pretty good. And you know, we knew if we Avoided injury, particularly the key positions. We were gonna be damn good and we avoided injury to the key positions and we were damn good and that zit fact of life in the National Football League. And the teams that you know that get there and competed. A high level usually don't sustain season ending injuries. Two guys that they're really, really recounting on, and there's a rare exception to every rule, and you'll.

Mike Brown the framework of the organization. Any of that stuff they've got Joe Burrow. They have a guy who projects to be a star at quarterback. The players, the Reds are seemingly building around. Don't have as much confidence in and let's face it. The off season for the Reds is more than three months old. There has not been any significant additions to the roster, and there have been some significant departures. You're not as good of the team is the one that walked off the field in Atlanta, and that team last season wasn't all that good. FC Cincinnati just put together one of the most unwatchable seasons I think the team could ever have. Um, but it's the first season of a new head coach, and they're moving into the stadium. "Are looking you in the season on a high note. Obviously, Joe Burrows season ended a long time ago. But still there. It's about the future. Zach Taylor. What was that news? I guess nothing is official. But it seems usually with the first step is to revamp the staff before you fire the head coach on bits. Obviously, it seems as if he's going coming back. But what is the feeling about where this team goes from here? Well, you know, I think the feeling is that this team has a couple spots They really need to upgrade right tackle. Being one of those. Bobby Hart is under performed the offensive line coach Jim Turner. He was the first guy they announced out of here. I would expect them to use that. Probably a top 10 pick. I would assume in the draft next spring on a right tackle and edge rusher re signing Carl Lawson and they're gonna have money Rich AJ Green made $80 million. He's not likely to be back. Gino Atkins contract was around 10 11 million He won't be back and Carlos Dunlap when they traded away another big money guy. They're gonna have the money to adjust some of these things. They're obviously gonna adjust the coaching staff, but it does look like Zach Taylor is coming back. He was told these changes on the staff need to happen or there will be bigger changes so read into that what you want, but it looks like you have in the coaching staff will look a whole lot different next year. All right, Jason. We will check back after kickoff. Thanks for checking in with us right now. I'll get rich. All right. Jason Erhard in Cincinnati. Next stop is Buffalo and Paul Hamilton standing by and Paul, who would have figured back in the start of the season. We'd be sitting here right now with the Bills and 12 3 and likely the second seed in the conference. Yeah, 12 and three. Uh, I never was looking for that. It. Uh And really they're looking at Hail Mary against Arizona away from being 13 and two. Yeah, I mean, they they basically Josh Allen had brought them back down and what? What Everybody had thought was won that game. And then just a freak. Hail Mary happened and you know they wanted losing that game. So, uh, you know, I'm not expecting the bills to win this one. I don't think you're going to see a lot of Their starters. I mean to Davis White and Jerry Hughes aren't even active. Remember last time there in the situation with Josh L and they let him play a series and he's only 40 yards away from breaking Team single season passing record, So I'm wondering if maybe, um That's what's going to happen here. Let him break the record. Put him in for a syriza and then off to Matt Barkley. You look at this team today, and they are facing a team Attendant five, a division opponent trying to make the playoffs to a tug.

"Cincinnati Bangles hosting the Baltimore Ravens at Paul Brown Stadium, and the offensive line will definitely get tested today. Dan wouldn't Dave Lapine would get into the Mort difficult details, But I will say this Last week against the New York football giants. They had six sacks and 11 quarterback hits, so they're coming. They rushed for 249 yards, and you heard David Latham talk about Mike Daniels being al Gino Atkins out DJ reader out and so will that interior get tested because they pounded the ball last week, a lot with a lot of success. However, I will say You find it interesting that when Ryan Philly went up against the Steelers, they came through as a team. You know, when Tyler Boy was out with a concussion last week against the Texans, they came through as a team, so they're gonna be tested again this week. No question about it. Let's hope that they can rise to the occasion on this last game, and the anticipation of looking forward to next year seems a lot brighter when you go out on a win, so we're looking forward to see what this combination of bingo players do in this first game of 2020 won the last game. Of 2020 should be interesting. Come up later in the show, you'll hear it. Dan Hordes, conversation and fantastic fun facts with Brandon, Alan and I go back in time not too far back. Subject chairman, the former pro bowler just one of the nicest young man you ever meet and was always a pleasure to talk to him in the locker room, So we're looking forward to that as well. So all that coming up and don't forget. It's the countdown to kickoff. Forget about ballpark buns on the Bengals radio network will be back with more. As.

"They would just stand to reason that fatigue has to be a problem. Well, how is how is Tomlin handling that then because they still have three games to go this in this regular season before the playoffs? How is he handling the fatigue issue? Yeah, You know, he's always been a guy who especially once the regular season starts, he still has. Well, maybe not this year, but usually a training camp. It's more physical, maybe a little more taxing than a lot of teams to do, but Once the regular season starts regularly gives off Ben Rogers Burger marquees policy, David A lot of his, You know, more better guys have been the league, you know, 89 10 more years. Is that one day off a week for practice and generally doesn't do the pad to too much during the regular season. Now they have these three weeks in a row that we're just totally odd week the way they were. You know, they're supposed to be a screw with your Thursday and we all know everybody knows the Baltimore game that pushed back the next Wednesday. Then you had a quick turnaround to the next Monday against Washington. And then they had a quick turn around for the next week to a Sunday then S o. That kind of they kind of pulled the reins back with short practice is there in that time now they get this bonus day this week since they too, of course, that from Sunday to Monday, which is kind of a reprieve, so they were proud planning a practicing in pads here. This week leading up to the game, So I think it's sort of a chance to kind of reset and get back and one before, you know, pretty much normal routine. Finally, for the first time they've had in about a month here and maybe kind of like Depressed. You know the stole evidence to and there's you know, the bad 11 to win your love in, you know to be 11, too, but the one negativity, but it's kind of reset things. I think that's kind of what their planet now and and you know. We'll see about that Rather's burger that that's probably the biggest problem is that the pig factories? He's 38 coming off elbow surgery, and I think it's time his arm has looked tired. Yeah, well and not being able to run. The ball has been a problem of contributing to that. We talked about the offensive line it Z. It's obviously not creating any kind of traction with running game, but it stands to reason he can't run means he's got to throw the ball more, so it's a cascading effect up and down that offense. Yeah, definitely is, And that's what that's why they're so boxed in. It's kind of amazing Other they got 11, You know, even such of the second half of the season and things kind of material to that point, even those last four or five of those wins. There really wasn't any running game to speak of, and there really isn't those mental still has been hitting the shot down the field. That kind of change. Playful with rookies emerged. They heavy, you know, one or two Generally have a hit one or two long plays a game. But there's really nothing an intermediate range anything past 789 10 yards up to that, you know, and then you take a couple shots a game. And so it worked early on the first day, they came back to beat the Ravens the first time on November 1st. That's when they come on, Bill. This offense was just bending and shock. I'm kind of a model underwear, no huddle and two quick little wide receiver screens and they were making place for But even in the adjusted to that, and they're taking that away now, and if you don't have that And you have in your media passing game, you know, overrunning. Gotta find a way to move the ball Somehow. This is the kind of trying to work through now on and you know again, everything is attributed to something else. Wide receiver is dropping the ball. I've never seen that the way it's been for them the last couple of weeks Now these guys, you know, they're legitimate wide receiver, NFL wide receivers. They're not waver wire dudes that showed up in the middle of the year. They're legitimate wide receiver. What's going on? Deante Johnson? What's going on with that guy? Yeah, that's that's the guy when he came out that that was one of you. No strength. You don't have to worry about you Catch the ball for you. And so it really is. It really got to the point there and he did. He came back the second half against Buffalo, and he caught all four of his targets for the 11 drive there, So I think that Removed at least some of the dot in question. And maybe you know whatever it was Tailing him there because it got to the point there where he dropped the first two on third down to start that game against Buffalo. They benched him and at that point, it was like, okay, this is interesting Anomalies in just the one game thing isn't just a you know a rough stretch when it's now you're talking three or four games in a row. Possible drops every time that there's something mental here, there's something wrong and you were talking. I think you people insisted that you get there, Steve last reference or not, but you know the bigger deal Pittsburgh but he's kind of lost it. Pitching couldn't find the strength, so you know there's something member going on there. Well, see, now he's like they went back in the second half of you. And you know, he made the catch is there so maybe you could put it behind them? But you're right. It wasn't just him here. He brought that finished career, but even in the best hands You go live with Dad over the Steelers. You signed them. He knew that when you saw them, But, you know, Ju just had a couple drops. Even he's been generally sure handed throughout his career. Other than a couple of high profile drops he has had, but Yeah, well, you know, it's past. The point was anomaly. You know, you know the blood more game. Okay, then have two weeks in a row. You know what I'm still in three weeks in a row. When there's you know, multiple drops like that. It's something that Again when you're off with the struggling That certainly doesn't help. Not at all. Kristie Damn. Ski. Pittsburgh Tribune Review No job burrow. Carlos Don't live Traded away. Anyway, Here's what Covington was saying about this game tonight earlier in the week, it's frustrating. No, it says there's a saying that you hate you. You need to hate losing more than you love winning. And that's really been the case this year. Nobody with the town but this team has with the youth of this team has with the energy that this you see, you know, on both sides of the ball with certain with you know these guys and these certain playmakers that we have I could tell you right here right now that you know we didn't.
