"The loss of ginger Baker that the drummer for the course was one of the dog was one of the sisters she was great he's a really good drummer and you know who is one of the greatest drummers of all time nobody gives our credit I'm not for what a great drummer she was but not just respected in our time but even now posthumously is a Karen carpenter she was a terrific drummer in an all natural drummer she was I believe she's also taught but if you see her doing a solo sometime it now like any of those old TV shows or something like that girl could play and it with at which she was actually a drummer before she ever vocalized anything is she hurt her brother didn't even know that she could sing as beautifully as she sang in that natural alto of hers up and so it is it that we've been playing Irish bumpers in honor of a the fighting Irish the first couple hours go back and listen to that if your coast insider you can listen to anytime you want and Dick and listen to the story of Canute Rockne's murder and how it got connected to a priest who had to testify in a mob trial at Notre Dame and also while you're there you can check out the latest shows they put up from the art bell vault was right next to the Disney vault which I think they closed out but we just then we dusted off the art bell vault or pulling out these classic shows from art bell and many of you haven't heard these for a very long time we add new ones all the time and so they're some of the marquee ones that you've heard other people talk about perhaps but you haven't heard yourself and then other ones which you I know you already know and enjoy it it's all there in the same package for becoming a coast inside or find out more at coast to coast AM dot com so if if Mike is still hanging on to Vancouver he'll be up next week to open lines the rest of this hour and if it's any indication what we saw last hour it'll be fun on coast to coast AM this is the impala you.

"That he made it nineteen seventy right twenty nineteen right right if you don't ever talk with you about the famous drummer ginger Baker who died not too long ago and and it's weird kids is you know that that was kind of the cool thing about cream was it was like the best drummer the best bass player and vocalist and Eric Clapton who didn't always do the vocals for cream who is also a great vocalist but was disintegrate guitar player and they all have their like at a substance abuse issues and they all had other stuff but somehow those three that power trio you know it's it's an amazing thing when three people can sound like eight and that's with the little green did at least live in where they were able to pull that off it's easier in the studio but that was still pretty cool yeah last time we spoke I I did mention that the doors like my old high school back in nineteen sixty seven and I could live I I finished it and rock it open about that time and I first heard of thread warthog from a friend album back in nineteen sixty nine about a year after it came out and in the lyrics imprinted on my brain and I just let you know that work hard can close down the shop for that very much but with all the it got only a total apple and apple pie pizza crust replication of dogmatic than feet somewhere there's a teacher somewhere there's a T. shirt you gotta keep keep looking around until you find one right I love that era I thought it might be a good epitaph for ginger Baker this be just for yeah it and it it and there's something beautiful about that period in rock history to wear an album mattered where it from you know track one to track nine or however you know was split up it really mattered any order mattered and Andy you could debate aside one versus side too and and the whole rhythm of it and everything with the segmentation there really just isn't that anymore tickets if you if you talk about that with the a modern even a modern rock aficionado somebody's into alternative in listening to things on vinyl that concept just doesn't really exist anymore of the the free flow of one track into another track right any album art which is something else you know and I know is just amazing and a lot less thing I listened you know I'm I'm a guitar player I've listened to ginger Baker's drum solos from start to finish with the risks posed you would still like all those things live at this is a live version and I never got bored with them I would just listen to them from start to finish twenty minutes and just enjoy every minute of it yeah I feel that there's there was a there was a brief period of time where the drum solo that the the ubiquitous drum solo who was really fresh and interesting and you know Carl Palmer was doing that and and other people they could really pull it off and then there's just so many wannabes out there the like what about my time if it's like you were not that good I've been to a few concerts or the drummer got his time it was like I'll be right back you know they will have to how about your Copeland and their their pick for drummer giving okay Kerr credit for getting them into that you know yeah yeah it up in so this won't feel the same and I I I even hate to mention in the same breath but I've been very interested in in the replacement drummers for AC DC too and there's a because you know they've gone through a personal jet will now there's not really a band anymore but and a lot of those guys were contemporaries of ginger Baker they were you know that they had some very old rock session people from England to that were on those on those later AC DC albums because they are so admired their chops and it's hard to find people with jobs like that anymore but always a pleasure talking to you let me let me grab a couple of people waiting it will allow card line Paul is in Watsonville California if you're still there Paul thank you and happy to make good we're gonna take us well there's two things that Americans are just really touchy about speaking like I I'd like to really to okay go ahead well there there's two there's one that we actually cannot even discuss riso psychotic about it but okay the thing is the notion that the commie plot is the is the feeding America as we speak the coming months and already like a snake wrapped around it and we don't see it and if it were true we would be the last ten all believe me and I'm here to say I used to laugh at people that commie plot but I used to love.

"WBZ CHICAGO NPR X.. This is pinions I'm Jim dear goddess and I'm Greg Hot this week we're exploring songs we love by artists we can't stand you know it can be rare but every once in a while Greg Ni- full for a track that we dig by an artist we don't baby Leo last night then we'll review the latest from Nick Cave and the bad seeds and will bid farewell to drummer Ginger Acre and the muffs front woman him shop that's all coming up on sound opinions you're listening sound opinions and later in the show we're going to review the new record from Nick Cave and the bad seeds called ghosting and we're also going to memorialize drummer and cream co founder Jim does your Baker and the muffs singer Tim Shattuck but first we're gonNA share some songs we love by bands we really don't love this was a fun idea greg that our producer Alex and and we were calling shorthand songs we'd love by bands we hate I don't I don't personally hate anybody there's music I choose listen to well very few people in the music world anyway on the musician side not on the industry side but it's a great idea right I would never listen to a full album full stream by this band but I I love this song I think that's a key Jim you know it's not so much that the band is just they need to be consigned to hell although I might make a couple of exceptions senior list but this being a particular I never really particularly hated this band I just was totally indifferent to them I'm talking about the cult no a little bit medal a little bit hard rock a little bit goth a whole lot he's not a band I would ever listen to voluntarily but there is one song in there rather long career that I really loved She sells sanctuary from their nineteen eighty five album called love I heard the song in the context of going to clubs like is it in Berlin in Chicago and you know they'd be playing set you know the DJ sets would be like a love and rockets and you ordering this song would sort of be right in that doc it and I remember distinctly saying to somebody You know I really hate this ban but this is a really good song yeah I still feel the same way about it you know decades later in Asbury isn't much of a lyricist lurex are all about and the world turns around really in thank you hi is profound but the guitar by Billy Duffy on this on that from the introduction with the effects pedals any of that driving repulses out over that really cool will almost danceable groove that Nigel Preston sets up on drums Made this kind of a crossover track in terms of not only it hit the hard rock crowd but it did get played in clubs as I'd mentioned Lo and behold the guy who really holds a song together Nigel present the drummer that I just mentioned got fired after the song was recorded so that tells you a little bit about the cults taste and drummers adding the fact that Ashbury wound up being like the Morrison stand in the Jim Morrison's the doors region that's exactly where they're coming from as I said a whole lot of cheese but this song this song rules she sells sanctuary by the cult on sound opinions aw yeah she sells sanctuary by the called it's a guilty pleasure but it's not I'm not guilty about it all I liked that so I don't but I appreciate your defense of it I'm Greg I have two songs of I to here on my list that I've always thought where about a teenager right on the cusp of becoming an adult but as I researched them both neither about that and it kind of makes me like them less and they're both by artists I don't much care for now look Stevie Nicks is beloved by many including producer Alex Our old producer Robin Lynn you know worship than the white witch altar of Stevie Nicks Right you know to me fleetwood Mac Post Peter gene was emblematic of everything wretched excess about seventy s mainstream rock I never liked them for that reason. STV's solo albums were often a little too wispy for me no and the whole white witch persona okay but edge of seventeen is Rican Great Song again I always thought it was about you know a teenage girl coming into her own realizing as she approaches adulthood these new powers instead it seems to be about well apparently Knicks wrote it The week John Lennon was assassinated and she who was in a relationship at that time with the producer Jimmy Dean someone I do hate in the music industry just for the Eagles he's foisted upon us with his various record company head endeavors you know and I don't know what it has to do with John Lennon and also actually I don't know what the lyrics have to do with anything you know now now Greg I'm GonNa do dramatic poetry reading just like the white winged dove singer song sounds like she's singing ooh baby ooh Baby I have known that but what does that mean it's often misheard by people as just like the one way in wing dove that's actually a funnier but I don't know there's something about that sixteenth note Chug Chug Chug a rhythm on the guitar it's Waddy Wachtel one of the Great L. A. Session musicians and the way it pairs with the drums it's all about that forward propulsion for me and it's my favorite stevie nicks moment the only stevie nicks moment I'll endorse edge of seventeen by Solo stevie from her debut as a solo artist Bella Donna in one thousand nine hundred eighty uh-huh ooh thank you blew me uh-huh and it it sounds like she hanging greg stevie nicks edge of seventeen I interesting choice I I've gone with stop dragging my heart around with Stevie as kind of one track that I would pick but but I'd I'd give that Tom Petty Yeah Yeah True my next choice is by an artist. I don't pertain again are those artists I don't particularly dislike greatly just just was very Blah on him but again there was one song that really connected You know when you a dance party or you're at a club or whatever the case may be where you just want get up and move around was really catchy really dumb but really worked well on a dance floor and I'm talking about Mellow Man Ace's mental Rosa from nineteen eighty nine his older brother of Cypress Hill too much greater fame Melanin as only actually without a couple of albums and then pretty much disappeared from the music scene leaving behind this one hit song it was on his debut album which she sa- had some high powered producers on the dust brothers worked on this song and it Ha- also has a need courtesy of Santana's evil always okay you know again not particularly profound not particularly inventive but really catchy as one of those songs when it comes on you just want to move around and then you start becoming you start thinking you're bilingual and start phonetically pronouncing some of the Spanish words that are in the song next thing you know you're you're mellow man ace fan for about three minutes I'm trying to imagine you do in the phonetic thing at a dance party you know give me enough red wine and anything's possible you know what I mean Mellow Man Ace with Menti Rosa Unsound Opinions check the south baby then we'll go LILLE LESS NIKE CO enjoy what I really WanNa ask yes the F. please tell me live doppler really needs no yet necess- Thornton dead not my fault that is many rose from mellow man ace from nineteen an eighty nine a song I love despite the fact that melamine as pretty much recorded nothing else that I'm interested in well Greg you know Bruce. Springsteen is our most epic fight in the forty three year history of sound opinions you cheer him on I have less than zero use from him and I say that as somebody from New Jersey whether we're talking about the Schmaltz of those early e street band records that are all teen melodrama or the Bombay ask jingoism of born in the USA the fake Woodie Guthrie Dust Bowl stuff and then he winds up on Broadway right you know Broadway to me being cheesy over top super theatrical thing which is the antecedents of rock and roll that's the reason shorthand I've never had used for Bruce springsteen however however there is one song and I will actually play for pleasure candies room from that bombastic East St era darkness on the edge of town nineteen seventy eight in researching this you know and I've read springsteen's autobiography I prefer to read them then listen to him you know in researching this I'd never realized is that candies room is not about what I'd long thought like edge of seventeen about a teenage girl coming into adulthood and the powers of that that are she's realizing no it's apparently about sex worker and it's a cheesy story in in springsteen terms you know the kind of Raymond Chan alert you know film noir you know the the sex worker with a heart of gold in candy's room their pictures of her heroes on the wall that's what made me think it was about teenage girls and posters might be though I mean except that it was about a sex worker he winks and nods and says does this is a direct quote from springsteen does it really matter I'll never tell this is what he has set to get to candy's room you've got to walk the darkness of Candy tall strangers from the city call her number and bring her toys I don't know there's a sadness hidden in that pretty face a sadness all her own I don't know if I don't listen to the lyrics I still love it as much I always have because of that thirty second note proposal rhythm on the Hi hat you know uh you know it's it's actually kind of very disco you know in seventy eight the year of disco I mean like I'd rather hear Donna summer cover this but it's spring eighteen and it's the one song I I that doesn't make me sick candies route months out opinions you're pitching it's pretty sad missile room from which no man can candy safe we talk that is Katie's room from Bruce Springsteen Jim dear goddess pick as the one song he can stand by Bruce Spree eighteen yet one I've got about seventy five others list of sunk by love by springsteen and we'll say on has a a a young woman who like many of the characters in springsteen songs on his early albums is still living at home with her parents yeah but see I got sucked in on that Black Hole of Internet conversation boards by springsteen super fans and they were all saying no it's a sex work yeah I mean it could be I but I'm just saying my interpretation of that song was that it was never a sex worker so much as a person who is who's lost like many of the other characters in early on either way it would be better you know without his local hey we could we could have this debate all show long but we gotta take a break here in a second but what song is it they you our listeners loved Dia Band you don't love call leave a message on our hotline with your answer and why eight eight eight eight five nine thousand nine hundred.

"Ginger baker and ginger baker unique style tell you what he would wear out drums though he damn near beat drums the death yeah and i just like the way it's the poly rhythmic kind of groove he had going on all of his stuff but he was a jazz drummer that became a rock trump he considers himself a jazz drummer ginger baker yeah i didn't know that yeah and he'd never even calls himself a drummer he said i keep time on the timekeeper so so what's the what's the mindset behind that is not enough why would you say it's a good question i don't know but he says that a lot of thought about that what does he i guess it's downplaying what he does i keep time i mean it's the only thing i have in common with ginger baker because i little known fact back in the day when somebody asks me are you wide receiver for balance i said i know what i am is a pigskin grabber yeah so you get you get the ginger baker come it when not really so you're no no i was being facetious okay yes i can never tell with no no no i don't i don't get that so we did check the the water the dog water really it's it's something like a powder you can put in a regular bottle of water that is supposedly formulated for a dog so you can buy that colorado as a state loves dogs and i'm surprised i had not heard of that so did you find it is sold here do you know yeah you can get it online it's just that little additive like rick was talking about line okay all right no petsmart mean not not not at the brick and mortar stores so our caller missed out on a opportunity to make millions yeah hey brian how you're on koa hey guys it's a pleasure to talk with you thank you thank you brian i was in i think i was in second grade and i actually had to do a project and it was really just for innovative science and what i did is is we had i i made a model car car with transition lenses from my parents glasses and i'm in my forties now but when when that came out there were no transition tint so for you the coding and the reason i did is because my sisters we're only it's always complaining about how sweaty it was in leather seats so i came up with the idea to go and do this well i didn't see that at the time and then years later i see vision be ten for your windshield and windows everywhere now that's a great idea that would have been a great idea when when you were saying hey you know i was a little perturbed every day now i think thought about this i just didn't know if it was only me at that time or you know time just caught up with it were you old enough to watch when it when it first came out gilligan's island oh absolutely we better check to make certain that there's no reference from gilligan's island on your idea the professor didn't come out right because apparently brian thanks for the call that would have been a good idea is a great idea why don't they do it you couldn't do it on a windshield but well maybe you could you could do it on all the other windows on a car that you normally would have tinted with the uv protection yeah so when it's sunny the transition it goes dark in when when it gets dark at night then it goes to a clear lens just like on a glass on glasses they do that don't they do they have never never seen it i don't know i think it's a great idea does gonna join us next five twenty two on.

"Totally agree great great great joshua brennan it might get loud i was really good did you see that i don't know that what was that about that was the one with jimmy page the edge and jack white that's right talking about playing the guitar and that one was fun i remember thinking i wanted more of them in the room together 'cause they did all the back stories of each one of them which was great but once you get this three guys in the room it was kind of felt like the third act and i wanted more of that and he also mentions beware of mr baker that awesome documentary on the drummer ginger baker that's right i always see it pop up in my in my suggested boy yeah they know you know jacob thomson exit through the gift shop of course so good plastic so mad at two like it's almost not it blurs the line between documentary and kind of fiction i love it so much yeah kelly shank i am not your negro a really wanted to see that when it was out but i did not get too but that is on the list for sure supposed to be really really earn amazing things have not seen it either trent more when we were kings man even if you don't like boxing when we were kings as one of the great documentaries about time let me see here who sam lucia n palau's ski the act of killing did you see that one that's another kind of blur in the lines where he makes the war criminals reenact their crimes like they're doing a film scene kind of i've not seen it john.

In the many examples of people who've who've been able to get to the other side leg ginger Baker, take his relent. Klis need to face a challenge head on and punch it right in the nose. As many times it takes until it stays down for good. Well, that wraps up this up Assode and. Wraps up an episode that I didn't want to do, but I hope that you found some value in it. It's a very tough thing to talk about. I just I don't feel great about doing it, but I do hope that some of the examples that we gave to try to, you know, help you look at other other ways in your life that you can achieve originality without depending on external substance. I hope you found some value in that, but but as I said, at the beginning of podcast, this this does wrap up the first season of your art sucks. So I want to say that I'm absolutely one hundred percent thankful to each of you have taken the time to listen to the podcast. You know, every day I look at the number of downloads and and they're climbing and I'm absolutely blown away by that. So it's kind of a thrill for me. I actually never thought anyone wanna listen to me talk, but Metairie are. So if you would be so kind as if you enjoyed what I've done this for season, if you could, please be kind as to tell your friends about it or if you're on social media just to to talk about it, I really do need some some. More visibility, especially in tunes. It's weird Spotify doing amazingly well on, but I tunes, it's it's, you know, there's so much noise and I tunes. I'm just not really getting attraction, but you know, ratings would really help that and leaving comments would really help me get more exposure on I tunes and get into the years of other artists who may need to to hear what I'm saying or may like to hear what I'm saying. So I have some great ideas for next season already brewing, and I'm very excited for you to hear them so supply subscribe. So you'll be notified when I released the first episode of season two, which should be coming in a week or two, probably two, I, I need to to just take some time and compile some some really good ideas into solid solid up program. So in the meantime, you can reach me Twitter at your art sucks pod, or you can comment on my website and that's yard sucks. Podcast dot com. "We know well written and played it's got a hot i hope fuzzy's put together like a like a a on people doing the shuffling cards they do the things that you never fail watching and riffles shuttle is that what is called a chef look at watching a garage movies like watching a riffles shuffle it's like watching somebody doing that suffer for the package 'cause it so it's like close magic so dexterous it so flexible it's so tactile that there's a real cinematic thrill in it and the story is kind of knowingly referring to other story so you know it's it's it's that classics of buses bonnie and clyde tree romance badlands in all those are elements in it but the film itself is playing its carchase is playing it's you know it's automotive sequences with the sounds of crunching gears and an and drums and horns and guitars all mixed together in this kind of frenetic you know package which literally jumps off the screen grabs your attention the first time i saw i thought that was really good i was just really surprised by how how found how much fun it was how much the musical queues will really set a perfectly judged and the visuals were absolutely cuts in the second time round i was really knocked out and by the third time ran on this this is just it's like watching somebody it's like watching ginger baker played the drums it's like watching somebody who is in love with the instrument and they're having fun and they want you to show you know when you said about the interview with with a garage you said it's like he's got this.
