"Fish. I know we've all done it but the off chance that you haven't it turns out a powerful belief has permeated the angling community of late as if by Osmosis but in reality by Facebook, the idea is that if a fish is wounded presumably by having been fished the carbon dioxide and a can of pop can slow the bleeding by. A science thing to it, and so began the apparently growing practice of. Ginger Ale release among those who love fish enough to catch them with a hook, and enough to attempt to counteract said Hook catching with carbonation it's a beautiful complicated relationship. To test extremely plausible theory for some reason, researchers caught one hundred and fifty six northern pike. They then inflicted a minor gill injury via a pair of pliers. Then the researchers proceeded to apply Coca Cola, mountain dew or carbonated lake water to the wound. They determined that in each case, the treatment had absolutely no effect. If nothing more than pop science. So let's put an end to the whole coke and dagger operation..

"Does right Birch and I have a nephew update. No my nephew who recently found out Santa Claus wasn't real. We had someone right in there. Like maybe Santa Claus Israel when I was like maybe he is but he's now asking favors so he called my he called my phone so my sister quote unquote called my phone in ten times in one day and I thought Oh no has there been a death in the family but there were no voicemails and are not Texas. He got he's eight so he got a On her phone and he said I really need you to buy my mom. Something for Christmas. Smells like of course. What does she want and he said a penny any from one thousand nine hundred forty one and I went? That's adorable. Why he goes or maybe one thousand nine hundred forty nine or maybe nine hundred and fifty one? I was like now. You're just making picking things up so then I said let's get a penny from nineteen forty one during the war one of the worst. And he's like that sounds great and I said can you order it online or do you want me to order he goes. I can't get online and I don't have a credit card so I said great. Let's do this together so I went online and the first one I found was seventeen hundred dollars. Oh my hold on Catherine. Are you going to like get to the reveal all about why your nephew wants these. We're about to get okay. Sorry I just I. I wasn't sure if it was like a plan. Reveal or if you had like it was supposed to be something that we knew that like while. You're no one's pennies. Well it turns out spoiler. There's no reason okay as tell tell me lawyer. There's literally no reason he's like I don't know a penny. I think he learned in school. That pennies are monumental or something which is cute right are they. So I don't know I don't know I mean Catherine's are only worth one cent. Well Sally Ali I spent nine dollars on. I feel like you were overcharged. Eight dollars and ninety nine cents. I also feel like this is the best joke ever around my sister so I said well if this is what you want to get your mom for Christmas this is a big deal. And he's like yeah. This is what I want and I said shipping and handling will be the eight dollars and ninety nine cents. He goes great so I bought a one dollar penny. Sorry one cent penny with eight nine nine shipping and handling it's incredible. Yeah and I feel like this is this is this is going to be the best thing ever I love it. Where does one by pennies dude? Is that an Ebay sort of a thing. Okay so go online. There was a seventeen hundred dollar penny and I was like not going to happen but I finally found one close to me. That was GONNA ship it for rush delivery. Obviously it's gotta be rush because it's Christmas and I said to him all right. It's going to be nine dollars. How much you have your allowance money? Can you pay me back. And he goes yeah. That sounds fine. I only have five of dollars now like screw it so then I call my mother and I said to her I spent nine dollars on a penny for Caroline for Christmas and she said I spent forty five dollars. Oh my gosh. He made me by an ugly necklace. So this kid is just crushing it in wipe US convincing us to spend money on things. This young man is a gift. or He's running. He's running of some kind. I don't think we know what it is yet. But it's like an ocean's Zhen's eleven where they figure out what kind of crew they need their heist and they go around like collecting. All the people feel like your nephew is just going around collecting all all of these items for a reason to be revealed. He's so great at it. I mean I'm impressed. I I mean I'm impressed too and I can't wait to see what what. His dastardly plan. TURNS OUT TO BE. Well I will listeners. I will take video of me presenting the pennies assist. Yeah I really can't wait to hear your your sister's reaction to being gifted and penny. Oh Gosh well. Apparently so then. I texted her and I said you know so your son just made me buy something for you. That is not great and wait till you see what he bought you. Oh God so he's really got a long con- you're right. What do you think he got? You mean it's it's it's a nickel. Oh my God something terrible probably GonNa Nichols better than a penny just objectively. It's worth more cents as as we all know. Anyway let's get to you okay. And if you WANNA watch a bunch of people Playing being a game. Irl on a camera. You should definitely check it out so what I wanted to talk about. Though for my Jibbidy Jibbidy Jabber is a thing that happened that well Catherine it made me feel a little better about the world and people I have been noticing that a particular person I follow on. Twitter has been the no. It's nothing it's like nothing like bad I but I've noticed that they've been like tweeting in ways. That are really really like what I would say. Hostile about Various things like all kinds of topics. And what do you mean like specifically Give us a like like just like very very like like like a person that would at at you know maybe at some point would tweet a sort of funny a snarky take on something in the news or Something that's like viral on twitter is now like instead of tweeting. Something that is funny and Snarky tweeting reading something that I think I would consider as like sort of angry and hostile Like just a a serious tone shift not really a change in in the content of what they're saying like they're still critiquing their their critique hasn't really changed it's mostly just their tone has gotten like really intense and angry angry to the point where I've considered meeting this person who's actually like a person I love to follow and and also like I I also was just sort of like getting worried about them because I was like this is such a shift in like In how they present themselves online like are they. Okay and I I I've been noticing it for a while and had been kind of bothering me I I texted a mutual friend and I was like. Hey have you noticed this person's lying doing Like what do you think is happening. And I just like our other people noticing. It like what's happening and they said this to me that I thought was so helpful In understanding standing potentially what was going on where they were just like I hadn't really noticed but you know I think maybe it's because I sort of agree with a lot of how they're feeling which I thought was interesting? 'cause I often agree with this person I just have like have felt Like even when I agree with the content content I feel like they're tone is so so so intense but anyway this person said maybe the reason that they're tone has changed so much is that they're not just not feeling heard otherwise and I thought that was really it was just such an interesting thing to think about and so helpful because I had sort of been like. Wha what is with this person like why are they being like this like an not in a way that like I don't think people should be angry or or like people should like talking hostile hostile way 'cause if that's how you WanNa talk and that's you express yourself like everyone has a right to do that. It's not really about like let's all be put more polite. It was more about like it was such an abrupt shift in tone and I was just so sort of weirded out by it and it was like negative or yeah and just like yeah just like a a serious serious shift and it was really interesting to have someone just like point out like you know because I think that in my mind I was like well when people act out on twitter like they're being performed live or they're are trying to garner a certain kind of reaction or their sub tweeting and this person who I reached out to kind of had a totally different take which is just like. Maybe they're not feeling doing her. Otherwise and yeah feeling some feelings that they want people to know that they're not okay. Yeah that was what I was kind of wondering about actually really so but it was really interesting too like I felt I felt like it was sort of a challenging not in a bad way like a good way like challenged my assumptions about what the person like what was motivating. This person where I think I had like scrubbing some Some like not not not like malevolent intent but just some sort of maybe like petty intent And this person who I talked to was like kind of re framing it as like this. Maybe a thing they need to due to feel heard which I don't know just it was really helpful. I guess I think especially like when we're in a moment where so many people feel threatened Or feel like feel that the people the closer to them or threatened that You know people quote Unquote Act out and I think sometimes that could be why anyway so I just wanted to mention that and you know I don't know I tend to like when people are acting out I'm sort of like you know there's something else going on there and and you know but but it it is another thing to consciously be reminded that sometimes people are feeling scared or threatened or silenced. Or whatever and you know we use the Internet to like express all that stuff and sometimes your reaction Shen is about you and how you feel about how you present yourself. That's so true. That's the other thing too is like I. I was thinking also about like why it was bothering me so much and I was thinking talking. I've been thinking recently about how I've been feeling really snarky on twitter much easier than usual. I've also been reached meeting along more than usual. So yes yes. So it's like and that's been bothering me about my own like twitter presence and I've just been thinking about that a lot for myself and I think probably probably that's why it was like sort of Painting on my radar that this other person was doing that so I don't know I've just I've just been thinking a lot about this whole thing of like how we show up on twitter bitter and like being reactive to other people on twitter and all that shit which also continue to talk about for a thing we did but Catherine let's transition to I think we also real quick Huge shoutout to of Rachel Wilkinson Miller correct. That's her name Craig. Richaud Wilkerson Miller Wilkerson Miller who Who is taught you the art of showing up the book? That's coming out soon Somebody got very sick recently. A friend of mine and I learned from the art of showing coming up. "Just like the Lego set moment is like just you know find a little activity Have have a creative thing saying that. You WanNa do take your mind off things. I really really appreciate this totally your. I love the idea of like saving thing. You're really excited about for particular time like you know because then you have like a thing to look forward to A specific thing. That's really awesome and I also really like make plans to call people you love and who love you even even if the Subaru because like phone calls are so rare for me but They really do make you feel connected to a person okay. I don't I recently had a really nice phone call and I don't I don't mind it. I feel like there's times an sorry. Funniest is coming back from his walk. I do appreciate that sort of the voice hearing the boys right and also knowing that you can get off whenever you want you can just leave the call. If you're calling somebody who respects your privacy. You don't feel like obligated to be McCall. Totally a call by choice is what I'm I'm saying. Yeah remember when talking on the phone was like its own activity. I remember having a cord on my phone. Yeah I would. I remember like a couple of particular friends of mine. Who like we would just like talk on the phone like every day or every other day for like an hour and that's what he was all about? It was just talking which fills so old timey but it was like such a huge part of being like a young adult and like a teenager. I don't know if the teens are you a T and right on. Do you talk on the phone. I'd love to know. Oh I do I actually i. I don't mind sounding out of touch and like I don't know what the kids do so please please tell me in my theater company the near future I do hang out out with the teens because we have some interns and people volunteer for the show. They are so communicative. They writes in their journals They will allow me to have a sit down conversation. It's such a wonderful. I think that there are sort of you. Know How like when your family's like don't do the drugs and you're like I'll do drugs the opposite and you hear from the boomers like Oh you know the Internet. And then they're like how about not the Internet I feel they're they're. They're rejecting that in a really amazing way. There's lot more facetime I find with the kids these days love that love. It love the kids. These days their crushing it So here's another tip from another Struggle Buddy one thought that immediately comes to mind signed is to make sure you keep and respect the boundaries that you have for the rest of the year okay. That's a task. That's that's I that like that blew in my mind. My reaction to that was mind blown EMOJI A. Yeah Yeah I mean for the rest of the year. That's that's a whole situation relation. I gotta go to therapy to unpack that way. What do you mean you mean boundaries? You know and take time to really do that. Yeah Yeah boundaries are great I love boundaries the mortgage interest. Say it's hard sometimes. Yeah it is I mean I feel like I have have the opposite problem where I have like. It's it's too easy for me to set boundaries of but. Yeah no I hear you it is boundaries or just are difficult and enough themselves but I just saw the rest of the year. And that's like lingering in my head of of Thing I have to do for twelve months but I think it's like it's like the boundaries. Foundries that you have in place normally. Don't let them fall by the wayside during the holidays. I think that's what the Tip Is Gotcha. Okay Yeah Okay the next next one is this is so good. I'm totally going to do. This is sometimes preplanned a story or tidbit to share that Israel impersonal but doesn't feel vulnerable slash exposed. My parents feel like we're connecting and don't get or. Let's be real get less defensive. So good isn't that so good. I'm so totally coming up with like five many anecdotes so that when I get like the certain same question over and over I can just like have a thing to be done with it. You Know Yeah I've also I think I I. I talked about the show. The the the nod and smile Like and then what happened. Yeah you know yeah yeah. It's so good actually. That is a really good segue into this. This tip which is from spud this They they want to read My biggest stressor for Christmas has it's always been my mom. I love her dearly but she's a Tad nutty very emotionally exhausting and drinks a lot which is good exacerbating the first two. This used to feel impossible to deal with but as I've grown up I've learned major life act to prevent myself from going bananas. I mentally shrugged my shoulders and say oh mom her ridiculous her ridiculousness Silas nece is pretty predictable. So I know it's coming and having a sense of humor about it keeps me from getting hung up. Then when the parts of her that are really wonderful about able to appreciate them instead of still being being upset about the other stuff that I don't like but it's very in character for her I love this It's so smart and sorry this is biscuit this get chiming in even here. I don't know if it's like actually picking up great. That's good news. Oh Okay Yeah. That's picking Oh biscuit so Biscuits awake I love this because it's such a wonderful way of looking at someone and saying you have your quote unquote flaws or whatever but you also have your good things that I like about you and I think that that's the definition. The friendship sometimes is You know and obviously it's different with your parents but this person does this thing but I'm able to deal with it and then understand that the the good things I am here and then leave and then go home. Total a hundred percent. I love this for that reason as well like just the idea that it's a thing that you can and do that kind of Protect sue in the moment but then also helps you appreciate the person you're with Yeah 'cause I think it's I think it's very real that like during the holidays holidays. Everyone is sort of ant like at eleven. I think because of everyone's like excitement and stress and alcohol and every you know it's just like there's so much going on that is like people who are already a handful become like hand fuller I Love I love like going into a thing and being like like all right. Everyone's going to be a handful. Here's here's how it works anyway and then it makes you enjoy the experience a little bit more in my experience when I go in going like this is going to be terrible and then it's not. It's like that was fun totally. Yeah it's it's really nice to have those expectations going in okay so these are really good. Tips really good was dumped from the struggle buddies. And I will be using a great many of these Katherine about you. We wait sally. Do you have any tips. Let's let's see I mean my my hack is that whenever I go away for a long weekend Particularly around the holidays holidays any holiday. Is I take the Monday off of work after which is something that I'm able to do because having Salaried employment with paid time off is a privilege and in our terrible country So it's a thing that like I think is not possible for a lot of people but but I just always have that built in. Because the thing is like the fact of the matter is that like even if the holidays aren't like emotionally exhausting in difficult holdings ID producing for you. Then that's great but like you know typically like at the very least like maybe you have some late nights. Maybe there's travel involved. AWW maybe you've like drunk more. They usually do like so. You know even if it's not sort of like an emotional like hell scape to to celebrate the holidays. It's possible that like you'll still need a little bit of extra recovery. So that that day off is lake my absolute jam. What about you Catherine? I think just acknowledging being that is going to be hard and then showing up and being like okay. That wasn't that hard I think like. I said the keeping the expectations low but then enjoying. I'm good moments. Yeah totally yeah. That's like so smart expectations low but enjoying the good moments is awesome. Do you think that like for me like I've I've noticed that if I go into things being this is going to be miserable and it's going to grind into a find a fine powder at actually is harder for me to like find moments sense of like lightness and feeling good. Because I've I've like I've invested so heavily and how terrible everything's going to be but if I can go in and be like you know there's GonNa be some hard moments. There might be some good moments. Let's just like how like. Let's just be curious about what this is going to be like and make sure I have my like self-care like right in my back pocket. That's like a much better approach for me to take. Yeah and also find those times to take a walk or be by yourself or go to the bathroom talk for ten minutes and your phone. Yeah totally I. I have an urgent email to reply to and sure the next room. Yeah exactly exactly okay. So Catherine Oh do you WanNa do you WanNa give a holiday. Survival tip I think I just gave some just I like it take take your time have have a moment to be like oh I need to go get Ginger Ale with my my big line is oh. We're out of Ginger Ale.
