"Responded to the show. Yeah, well, I couldn't have guessed that, I think, when I was cast, you know, I really couldn't have guessed that the response for the show as a whole and also particularly for gene was going to be as strong as it has been. And again, I feel like she completely came to me out of the blue and I didn't quite get it at first. I didn't quite get the show. I didn't quite get how a therapist who was a well respected professional therapist could be so morally ambiguous in her personal life and with her son and once I got it and it was almost even once the audience got it and embraced it once I got to see that oh, I almost felt like I saw it through their eyes. It was like oh that's what this is. That's what this is going to be. Oh my God, I'm so lucky that I'm on it. Daniel. I kind of felt like it was one of those since then it's just been a delight. I love working with a suit. I work with the most and with Nicole who plays and plays yakob and is now the father of my child, which is a whole I haven't even begun to address that whole storyline yet because that comes up in the next season and I haven't read anything yet. So I have no idea whose childhood actually is. And so, and I think it probably has influenced a bit, some of the other stuff that has been coming my way. So. You mentioned not quite getting it at first. What do you think you initially did not get about sex education then maybe has now clicked for you? I was a bit and I'm only saying this because I was proved wrong. I wouldn't be talking about it in this way. If I wasn't proved wrong, I was worried that it was too broad. That the comedy was too on the nose that it was, you know, all the things that and then I suddenly realized I'm not the demographic. And even though I'm not the demographic, there are a lot of people who are my age who really, really respond to it. It really has kind of smashed through all of the demographics. And I watched documentaries. And that's pretty much all I watch. And so to go from documentaries about the Iraq War, to go to watching sex education. That's a big leap. That's a big leap. And so it took me a while. And now I hope you don't mind, I have to ask you one something just about the X files, the show has such a following still, all these years later, and I'm just curious what you kind of make of that and what do you think it is that audiences, both longtime fans and people who are still newly discovering the show, what do you think they're taking from it? What to you is the reason for the show's longevity? I mean, that's amazing to hear. I mean, I know that die hard fans who have been with us from the beginning are still with still consider themselves fans. I still have people saying to me, you know, I grew up loving the X fellows and et cetera. There was a period of time when I was doing comic cons where I suddenly realized that there was a whole lot of people my age or older who would come up and say, this is my son. I introduced him to X files just a couple years ago because he's now 13 years old and he's a big fan now and I'm so glad could he take a picture with us or something. And so, you know, people who were die hard fans introducing their kids, their offspring, you know, almost like a rights of passage. And then there's a whole slew of kids who are finding it in their own right. And also I swear a conspiracy theories are not weakening. They're getting stronger and stronger all the time and particularly government conspiracy theories or related to government. And the dynamic between Mulder and Scully and frisson between them. It holds up. It really does, it's quite a, it's a rare thing to see when it's quite that pronounced and enjoyable. And stretched out over such a long period of time. Yeah, you know, I feel what really ties together so many of your roles is that you seem to always be playing women who are very modern and progressive in their moment and many of them are even kind of ahead of their time living life on their own terms and I'm wondering, do you feel like you're specifically drawn to that? Kind of a character and do you even feel like that's sort of a reflection of who you are? Oh, that's interesting, you know? I can never actually looked at it in that way before that's very interesting. I mean, I'm used to hearing from interviewers, you know, you always play strong women, but you're right to zero in on that aspect of it. That's true. That's true. And it actually goes back to your previous question. And when I, you know, when we were talking about staying within the lines, these women are not, you know, a lot of these women don't stay within the designated lines. And I have no doubt because it's me who's doing the choosing that must have something to do with why it's me that's playing them. Julian, thank you so much for joining us today. It's been such a pleasure, talking to you. Thank you for having me. I really enjoyed that.

"Intense for a while. Wow well so. After that show wound to a close with the night after night season. I guess it would be you well. Even in the midst of it you were doing certain. I guess hiatus projects the most significant of which seems to have been the house of mirth. You talk about as a really big deal at the time i guess why is that was just because it was a vote of confidence outside of the scully universe. Yeah it was about a confidence. In also i was familiar with this quite obscure director and an i had seen some of his films and really been moved by a couple of them and And so the fact that he was asking me or asking me to audition even was a really big deal For me and because you know back then you had merchant ivory films. You had all these period films. That and i really wanted to have an opportunity to be part of that world the period film world and so it was a big deal and also you know trying to squeeze it in between between seasons and i guess maybe that also maybe because it's period or whatever it is it's sort of closer to what you had originally imagine you would be doing before you were diverted with this hit. Tv show right very true right. So that was during the run of x. Files but after the run when some people might say the the safe move would have been to meet with everybody in town in strike while the iron hot and get the next show or movie or whatever in la. You kind of. I guess very deliberately did exact opposite and go to back to london and do theater very well received theater. But that's that's a that's an unexpected move. Why did you decide to do that. First and foremost. I think i wanted to do something. That was the complete antithesis of a hit. Tv show. second of all i. I wasn't sure if i could be on the set again. Just because they're tearing. Yeah but no. I just it. Was you know. It was intense for night for almost a decade. And i mean that's the equivalent of doing you know i don't know six films a year you know. Yeah and Which is a lot Films a year for for nine years I and and i was yeah and at and also at the end of of a series the world gets very small. You know the the the sets and crews wouldn't the but you both get closer together but it also can can become quite a challenging. And i don't want to say toxic environment and just just all you know enmeshed and i just wanted to get as for our of that as possible and also i had always wanted to have a life back in london. I just had. That was such a big part of my formative years and we were always going to move back to the uk in my mind is a kid and i never quite felt like I don't know. I had to mix relationship with with the states where i belonged and so that was the first opportunity that i i had to realize that dream and so i assume as actually even before the x. files was done. I bought a house in london. Wow so you it was a very deliberate and my initial plan was that i was going to be you know. Ideally moving around a lot. More than that. I'd still be spending time in la et cetera. And and and that was the case. Well and i i mean i know there are other things in between but it does seem like it was about five years between. Let's say house of mirth and then the next nine x. files screen project that you did. That was a a major undertaking in this case bleak house. But like that's that's reflective of what you're talking about right like i just get me out of here. Yeah yeah also. Once again people approaching me having a different idea of what they thought i was capable of doing outside of what it seemed. The hollywood thought i was capable of doing. Did you feel that people are only coming to you for. I don't know what what was. Was there a certain type of character. You kept getting approached. The belt actually to be honest. It wasn't so much. I don't even know if i was being approached by people at the end of x. files and i've always Wondered about that. And i think a couple of things one i think it was down to the particular representation that i had at the time to it was fox. Even they have such different divisions between film and television that there was a certain point where i thought you know that later on though why didn't fox even come to me and say. Hey you're you're one of our biggest stars. Come to this but but mostly i'm not sure whether i would have said yes to much had had it come my way because i was pretty determined to to get away from it all for a little while and And really wanted to do to to do theater and and for some reason to do it to do it. In london And that was that need and desire was greater than any desire to be a part of a bigger industry system. Let's just note though that when you did dooley's screen projects maybe somewhat reluctantly. They were very. You're you were very well. Received the house of mirth. Actress national cited phone critics award nomination bleak house bafta and golden globe. Best actress nominations. I mean at least on a internal level. Could you was that gratifying to know that anyone who was skeptical about your ability to do things other than scully. You know each time. It's kind of kind of showing that. That's the stupid position. Yeah possibly. i don't know. I've been so immersed in my my life and my my other life which is me as mom and And in my personal life an in the uk the i. I don't think that i've really ever stop to go. You know to go but can't you see you. Then you know i've been. I've been working at a pace that i've really enjoyed an. I've felt very blessed and fortunate. And also you know i of up until recently i've been adamant now to ever be away from my kids for more than three weeks at a time and so and that's always worked out really well. You know. i've i've been free. I've been a a pain in the ass to to cast because at the beginning i'm like okay. I'm only your girl. If i can shoot during these periods of time because if i can't and come back and see my kids then you've got the wrong person and and that's you know that became a really. I mean so unbelievably blessed to be able to be in a position to be able to say that. And but that you know.

Supporting actress in a drama series. Emmy award on september nineteenth. The great gillian anderson over the course of our conversation. The fifty-three-year-old and i discussed the conflicted feelings. She has when she thinks back to her years on the x. Files why after the x. files she fled hollywood and screen acting for a number of years and why she subsequently returned to both what it means to her after so many ups and downs in the business to receive universal acclaim for her work on the crown plus much more and so without further ado. Let's go to that conversation. Thank you so much for doing the podcast. Great to have you and on this one. We always begin truly at the beginning. If you wouldn't mind sharing with our listeners where were you born and raised and what did your parents do for a living out. Gosh i well. I was born in chicago. And at the time i think both of my parents were still what were social workers or maybe one of them was a social worker. I maybe my mom. My dad was in school or something. Or other than i was raised between the uk and michigan. Now why was that. Why was the moving around happening. Because it was a few back and forth right there were i mean i. I was in chicago for about six months We were we were in chicago six months and then we moved to puerto rico because my dad's family was living there and they were trying to save money. My parents were trying to save money so my dad could go to film school. They'd chosen london and so we were there for about fifteen months and then we moved to the uk. When i was two and then my dad wanted the film school and my mom. I think pretty much right away. A job with lloyds bank doing programming. Now your dad was he looking to be an actor or film or director was his expert. I think ultimately he was looking to be a director and and then when when we eventually moved to the us again it was It was going after a particular job that he'd been offered making industrial films. Main gern rapids michigan and then he ended up starting his own company called motion picture makers and i am pretty sure that the intention was always to direct. But then he in building his business he ended up getting sidetracked with all the other stuff that one has to do and one and then they ended up making a post production company called trillion. That was post production for i think predominantly commercials industrial films. But i was going to say industrial films at one time. Where big business. So i imagine in michigan especially so so. That's interesting So you though from what. I've been able to gather doing my preference. It seems like there was always sort of a desire to act. Read this one thing where i think you said. It was the first time you are acknowledging this but that you would sometimes as a kid stand in front of the mirror and just try to inhabit different people but it does sound like a lot of the acting. You didn't when you were a team was was acting l. Right there was some. There was some kind of a rebellious streak. What was that about Yeah that's that's that's the question of the century No i i have a good sense of what that was about. The you're right. It was that there was a lot of. I don't actually remember when the first moment was that. I thought that i wanted to be an actor I must've been influenced in some way by the fact that I visited my dad at the film school. i think he made a short film for The film school at one. Point that i think i was in and then i- auditions when i was in michigan for for some community theater productions and and it was after actually getting cast in one that i then had the experience of feeling would it was like to properly to properly act. I think prior to that may be. I've been stuck in some christmas show or something like that but that had been the extent of it so i think that's probably what got the ball rolling in my in my mind and yeah i do remember standing in front of the mirror trying to make my face do various things and then for for that i guess maybe overlapping with your involvement with community theater high school productions and stuff was this period of. You've just kind of not wanting to conform. I guess too. I don't know. I guess the way average person dressed or acted whatever i mean. I think a lot of that has to do with with feeling so out of place In michigan having come from london. Even though i i wasn't really old enough to understand all that the uk represented in terms of counterculture. That wasn't my experience. I only discovered counterculture walling grand rapids and there was something about it that that spoke to a need in me to to act out and so and also you know what we used to go back to the uk in the summer because my parents had a like a small flat there for a long time and so as i got older and got to experience. Different parts of england started to pay attention to the to the punks. And the you know the various neighborhoods and and etcetera i I started to embrace that. So how did your parents feel. When i guess pretty much right off after high school teams like you. You are part of this national theater program at cornell. You're going off to theater school yourself in in chicago. Drama school yourself i mean. Was this something. They were supportive of or was this also.

"Gillian Anderson about the six month anniversary of the events of January 6th the capital Riot. Um and yesterday I kid you not and I'm sorry. I know that it's just become a hackneyed sort of rhetorical device that so many people use, but I think in this case, I really do need to say this. This is not the onion. This is not the Babylon bee. This is not parody. This is not satire. Yesterday, the FBI revealed the latest with regard to their evidence about you know, Pearl Harbor two point Oh, the most the worst. In fact, it is worse than 9 11. We've been told. This is the most existential threat to our American Constitutional Republic, said Joe Biden, although he would never use the words Constitutional Republic because he doesn't believe or a republic. Nor really cares about the Constitution. But he doesn't existential threat to our democracy, Joe Biden said, was January six. Here's the latest. I'm not kidding. The latest piece of smoking gun evidence is the Lego set, as if that was like You know? The smoking gun that is older than you said. It's just ridiculous. Like that was the crime. We literally have video of bombs. We were told that were planted by the DNC and by the RNC and I'm not by the DNC. By the building, but yeah, Yeah, I made it sound like the DNC planted the bombs. Although, you know, they cracked the case they crash have video of the guy who dropped what was alleged to be bombs right outside the headquarters of the DNC and outside the headquarters of the RNC. We still have no new information about that. We don't see anything about that. But we've arrested a grandma. Who was wearing a maga hat with an American flag standing in the return, and she wasn't supposed to be there, and I noticed she was trespassing. But you don't throw her in the clink for six months without food or water because she was trespassing in the rotunda, and now we have This. The FBI building its case against the January six capital Ho riot, They said they seized they had to seize this a fully constructed US Capitol Lego set. As as if this was some sort of planning model that they were used. Yeah, it was part of the plan to take in the capital. A lot of this wasn't didn't seem to be planned or anything, but especially for the work. I have put together like a set. You know, it's kind of ironic is the White House themselves has stacks of Lego sets in the shape of the Lincoln Memorial White House did they give away as presents? Kids and stuff? I mean, what did they have to do with this? And we'll those species? You know what Now that you mention of? That probably will be some of the evidence connecting But you make a great point. If this if this fully constructed us Capitol Lego set is part of this pre planning that was being done there doesn't that sort of blow apart the impeachment articles that said that this was all spontaneously inspired by Donald Trump's speech that he gave on them all that day. If either it was preplanned by these militia groups ahead of time with their Lego set as the road map, or it was inspired by Donald Trump with his speech that day, you can't have it both ways. Was told that Trump whip them into a frenzy. And they had no choice but to attack the capital. They had no choice. There was all Trump, you know Legos aside, right? That's just a red herring. So I just want to come clean here. My kids have constructed of fully, uh, developed and finalized Lego set of the death star. They like their star Wars Legos. They have a Millennium Falcon and a death star, and they've worked on it for quite some time. It took forever to do, but they did it. Now we know that the death star has been blown up by by rebels Expect the house to be knocked on the door of the FBI agent doesn't mean they should be implicated in this. It's like a joke. It's a joke. The joke show it's Outrageous to the ones they made of one of 140 arrests So far, People are still in prison without any any any something solitary confinement, But I mean, we saw hundreds of thousands of damages and, you know, don't across America. People are lighting things on fire. We saw you know what happened Teeth and the BLM in front of the White House. We saw that churches set on fire, You know, murders happening the streets. But yes, but that we were paid for their bail. They were let back out into the streets. We have these people setting up Legos going to the Capitol, building the people's house and being arrested and they really want us to take this seriously and take it so seriously. That is an existential threat to our democracy, and their key evidence is a fully constructed Can't wish I find out what they were coloring in their coloring books that said Julie and I must say I have Hurt the bottom of my foot and stubbed my toes on multiple Lego pieces who left in the middle of the night on my family room floor, and they are evil and horrible. These Legos they should be banished. We should get. We need common sense Lego safety laws in this country to protect us, But I don't think we need to connect the dots with this Lego set. So what's the idea that you plan like you were playing? I'm going to enter from this way and yes, like here's the capital. Okay, now, Jim, you're This blue Lego piece here and Bubba, you're this red one. Now you come from this side, and I'll be coming from this side and how accurate like how it's just a totally discovered scale but definitely couldn't find it was floor plans on the Internet? No, not at all. And since Antifa didn't have a fully constructed Lego set of Lafayette Square when they were trying to burn it down in front of the White House last summer. Well, you know, we'll have no arrest there. It's 7 52 on Wael Marlowe's biggest July.

So I think people have been doing that kind of thing for a long time, but but just the name seems to me. Coco Cola, Coca Cola. They're gonna have a little trouble with that, Aren't they? Well, think, E if you don't have a dash in between the cocoa and cola Is that would cause Coke could say we have a dash in our logo. And if you if it's not red and white, I mean, the label I saw was blue and whites and maybe try to confuse people. That's what I mean. That seems what they're doing, You know. Anyway. Gillian Anderson. She was great. On the this latest season of the crown, she played Margaret Thatcher. And she was incredibly good at it. I had no idea that she was actually the I don't know if they were married, but the creator of the Crown Peter Morgan, They? They were a couple they have separated. It has been announced, says Gillian Anderson and her writer partner, Peter Morgan, who worked get though they worked together on the last season of the crown, have split amicably after four years together. No one man can handle Gillian Anderson. If you if you haven't seen the crown, I kind of got into it and fell into this last season. On. They say this is the they're not going to do any more after this. But with Gillian Anderson and Olivia Colman Together. Uh, she, Olivia Colman plays Queen Elizabeth. They're just incredible. It's just it was a great series. Let's see. French president Macron has tested positive for Covic. And he's symptomatic. He's not feeling great. He's got Yeah, Yeah, he he took a test as soon as the first symptoms appeared on Thursday yesterday. And he will self isolate for several days in line with national health authorities. Recommendations had covert tests yesterday as well. Oh, yeah. You don't have a follow up for being right. It's that University of Utah. It's called Hope. Project. On. I said to my wife was we're all sitting there in the car waiting doing and we had a blood draw and a saliva test yesterday. And It's not because any of us are sick. It's because we're part of this that the university just reached out to Think only places around the university. I don't I don't think it's all you know, Statewide or citywide. I'm not sure though You're in the neighborhood, and they and I said, Well, why are we doing this exactly? And she said well to get the $30 gift cards. No, But why is the U doing it? Apparently, it's really not. That doesn't have that much to do with Helping out the situation. Now it's research that may aid If there's a UNEP ID Emmick in the future, it's tracking. How thing how the how the pandemic, how it's spreading how the virus is spreading on that sort of thing and a little bit of economic impact as well. Let's see how Speaker Brad Wilson has defended His decision to cut Salt Lake City School district employees from covert 19 bonuses that the Legislature is handing out unless students return to the classroom instruction. In an interview with Fox. Mr. Wilson, Republican from Kaysville acknowledge that solid city district employees could be left out when the bonuses go into effect because they are online on Lee right now. That potentially could be the case. However, I hope not the case, he said. I hope that we have all of our students in the state with the ability to have in classroom instruction in the beginning of 2021, he said. House speaker reiterated his belief that every student should have in person learning experiences. Sure, they should. Sure he pointed out that the Legislature's executive Appropriations Committee budgeted for 121 million Every teacher to have the bonus and he said they could have the bonus. All they have to do is what were stipulating is that they have to get students back into the class. Listen in January, you can wish 100 times and that's not going to make the pandemic go away. I would wish that Republicans would be blessed with empathy, but that's not going to happen. You know, he's acting like it's up to the teacher's not It's up to the school board. So you're saying we're withholding this bonus from you, and there's absolutely nothing you can do. About it, and I find it interesting that there are online teachers that charter schools that the provisional allows for them to get the bonus, But not these Salt Lake teachers that don't have a choice, whether they're in person or you lose. As you see all that live in that area. The vote for him remember his name when it comes around and vote against him. It's pretty clear that the reason the Legislature has done this and Brad Wilson has done. This is and there are numerous examples of this. Any chance that they get to slap Salt Lake City and county in the face. They'll do it. Yeah, those liberal headquarters. You know, that's because we're all a bunch of sinners. Yeah. You know, they're my I'll bet they're more cigarette smokers in Salt Lake. And then there are in Kaysville. Guess what? I'll bet they're more milk drinkers, too. You know why? Because there's more people. Oh, finally, this Well, I was going to do a story about how so Here's Here's Donald Trump. You have any doubt at all that he's a petty, awful human beings don't have any doubt about as a matter of fact, I have some emails of interest about that. If maybe we could get to today time. Hey, He has once again criticized John McCain, a dead man. Yeah. He blasted John McCain after new tax from FBI. Uh, you know, lover Peter struck and we won't go into all the details, but Trump uses. This is an opportunity. Who once again attack a dead man. Dead. War hero. A dead didn't tonight. I like my war. I like my heroes who don't get caught. You know it's a war hero because he got caught my hero. My war heroes don't get captured. No. Yeah. Had bone spurs. You know, I geez. What? What I heard anyway,.

You went on in an investigation about Gillian Anderson for personal reasons, and we were like, why are we not changed so much already seriously? Because you know, it's it is such an interesting story. So we thought you should share it here. Well, cause I feel like I'm probably not alone. But I had one of those moments in my life where I'm like I am far too old to be realizing this for the very first time. I feel like somebody failed me like the education system failed me. The pop culture education system failed me, and that's why we're here is because we don't want to fail you like all the other pop culture. Yes. Education systems have exactly we are a for profit. "It's morning edition from NPR News. I'm Noel King and I'm David Greene. The new season of Netflix is drama about England's royal family. The Crown drops today, innit Gillian Anderson plays Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrine is Princess Diana. Here's NPR TV critic Eric Deggans. As the crown's outstanding fourth season begins. It is 1979 and Margaret Thatcher is taking powers, the first female prime minister in British history At first Queen Elizabeth played with until IUs reserved by a Livia Coleman sees a potential ally and another powerful woman defending her to Tobias Menzies, Prince Philip. As they watch that you're on TV. Last thing this country needs what two women running the shop next Prime Minister. Perhaps that's precisely what this country needs. But then they have the first of many regular meetings to discuss government business. And the queen discovers Thatcher isn't exactly jumping on the train The sisterhood when she asked who will be in her Cabinet? I'm assuming they women Women. In cabinet? No, certainly not well, not just because there aren't any suitable candidates. But I have felt women in general tend not to be suited to high office. Why's that? Well, they become too emotional. I doubt we'll have that trouble with me. That's an excellent bit of foreshadowing because viewers will find the Queen's inability to express emotion and the tremendous impact it has on her family is one of the key storylines in this season of the crown. In fact, the season features two overarching, exquisitely told tales, Thatcher's rise and fall and the start of Prince Charles is marriage to Diana Spencer, the woman the world would come to know as Lady Diana. Marriage story reflects worst on Prince Charles, who was browbeaten into proposing to Diana despite being in love with the married Camilla Parker Bowles. In particular, Charles is swayed by a note written by his great Uncle Lord Mountbatten just before his death. Hear Mountbatten. This played by Charles Dance, My Dear.

"To mention this. This whole Gillian Anderson conversation. He called me said it went to high school with Jillian Anderson. Why is she considers solve English that? Well, she's lived there for a long time. No. Considering myself Japanese because I lived in Japan for almost five years. I think you are. Okay. Well, someone who has very busy this Super Bowl weekend. And Atlanta was miss Cardi B who I love anytime. She explains anything on Twitter or interviews. I just went Cardi B to just talk. I just love how direct and straight. And I just love her. Done to us Wendy Williams, saying I were friends with her in our head big time and TJ homes from GMAC sat down with her. And did he Blache he was cracking up? And she was if you're at all online on I think this might have been filmed on Saturday. She had on a lavender leather trench coat, and she had her hair, lavender and pink. Action is shadow. It was so amazing. It was fabulous. I wonder how long that took because it was really great. It was really really great. Okay. Let's say the first cut talking about. I think this is about her daughter Cardi B seems to have been everywhere lately. I feel like I did the parties when I was young is you are young. We talk about when you were young in twenty twenty one I'm twenty six now. I work almost twenty four hours. I'm a mom. Twenty six. Hey, listen live chains. Exactly. Baby. Yeah. Her six month old daughter culture. She has with husband rapper said didn't join mommy's work trip to Atlanta. I'm sure you'd like to be with your child right now. How are you balancing? Yes. It is har-. I just think to myself like her future's going to be so secure. Like, oh my gosh. You can have a lambo issues like eighteen right now. I gotta be in my grind. And I'm gonna I'm gonna have more kids. So you're going to have kids. Yes. How about just so down to earth about it? You know? I mean, I don't know how old she was when she started stripping like eighteen I guess, but she probably packed a lot in. If anyone looks back at lake eighteen to twenty three. It's amazing. How much you pack into the ceasefires dislike I told you there like dog years. Yeah. Grow up to San I like, the she just said life changes like that. When you have kid because sometimes people don't change they have a kid, and they still they pretend like change he said when you have a kid, I think she also meant when she became like. Yeah. Went from zero to five talking about the kid and she was acknowledging dad like, hey, you know, that's yeah. You're not going to be. I mean, you can't do that. But. At what cost because time that you're taking here. She is talking about Chris. We gotta talk about marriage. Gotta talk about offset. Here's the next one for g admits schedules, put a strain on her marriage. But now she says they're trying to work things out gonna be. All right. You know, you gotta take a snow important. Is that to you that that family unit stays together when her team my parents separated, right? So I always feel like it's it's important to have like two parents household a lot of people always telling me like, oh, you could you could find another man. Has like I can I can find anybody. I want you don't know nowadays you for you. Sometimes I think people want me for Cardi B soon as I say, I did a video that I'm now. Now with this guy any more, I've got all these male celebs in my DMZ. Yeah. Let's go to dinner. You wanna go to dinner with me Cardi B famous do the DM. And you about dates like is is like I just feel like it's not as easy as people think you could you could do that say, Honey, I just. She just gets rate through all the whatever. And then plea the last one where he TJ homes from ABC as Kirti be about would there because remember riana was asked first, and then Cardi B was 'Second to perform at the halftime show at the Super Bowl. No one wanted. Okay. In what circumstance would you have performed at the halftime show higher, my friend back and understand? Why was this like so important and was such a poor mushy? He's standing up for minorities, and is like we don't super who stand enough was then it's like. And they need to understand. Why he stand up was? I mean, that's pretty well said because it's not just a matter of blink stating that they didn't want it. Miana turned it down because of her loyalty to call and Capri apps same with Cardi B's. So I thought even the way she explained that, you know, who's if you're not saying, I mean was just she's I don't know. I I really kind of have a crush on her. Well, she's infectious Lori is working their butt off twenty four seven, and she is going to post this too Instagram because really it was so unbelievable the makeup and hair. Yeah. It was so unbelievable that she's trying to make it work out with their guy. Which would be hard until he told her. He's got a new phone that doesn't include groupies. No, more groupies real name is Belle Kelly's Martinus. Yeah. Almonds are just very nice pronunciation. Really is delightful, and she's just is so fun. Yeah. She also claps back at different people online clapback at a Fox News commentator Tommy Lauren in January to leave her alone. Or she dog Walker and yesterday, she told her don't let me get my don't make me. Get my leash when you say, you're just she she's very. I don't know. I love her confidence. Exactly. Have confidence. Yeah. Her hair is great. It's amazing. All right right now. Oh my gosh. It's so. Did we ever really believe Travis Scott was going to stop in the middle of the halftime Super Bowl show and proposed to Kylie Jenner. No, no, there ain't no time for that. Ain't nobody got time for that. Now, he didn't eat barely had a minute. My favorite was big boy came in and the Cadillac I'm like, that's my Grandpa's old Cadillac. I recognize I mean that was an old one. Oh, yes. Dan, mosaic long coat. I re. Oh, yeah. They can't lead around the corner like Andre three thousand. We can see this halftime show. Get little. Hey ya. All we saw was Instagram video of. Of Kylie holding up her baby. Watching her dad on stage in the number one question in our house for the one minute of the Travis Scott song is why does he have Casey thought? It was a tool belt. Recognized as a fanny belts are fanny pack. They're everywhere Laurie. I know that's real love the fanny pack. You know, he was off key and other one. Could you tell me because people who knew the song Senate, I read it on Twitter? Okay. The people who knew the song. I couldn't even tell. Big boy when the way you make me move. I mean that one we're like, oh, yeah. That felt like energy per second. But he was off the stage so fast, you know. It's like the instinct boys felt when Justin Timberlake invited him to the Grammys. I know that they got like thirty seconds. And Adam LeVine is now he's getting crap about his his haiku that he left on his Instagram today. You can't win. He's not gonna win in. You said it, you know, Cardi B turned it down reality. Turned it down a lot of people that they wanted to have performed turned it down. Yeah. So yeah. You got. That's what we get. What you get. And you don't throw fit. There you go and people really did, you know, like just it is I just people had fun though. 'cause there was post Maloney, concerts. I mean there were ton of concerts happening over here last year. It was so much fun. It was so much fun pink played at the armory outside Donahue Nikola mall. We I mean, the suburbs and the jayhawks, and it really is the town is going crazy. And I think too. That's why a lot of people were really like kind of like looking at the NFL and Adam LeVine halftime show. They're here. They're in hotlanta. I mean, you gotta you gotta deep rich music thing there. But maybe the Mark anything under three thousand told big boy don't count me in I'm friends with capper Nick to you know, I thought that Meghan McCain on the view had a good idea. She did the NFL to exercise if you will the elephant in the room with Colin Kaepernick, taking a knee to protest police brutality and police injustice with minorities. I mean, that's originally why he did it. And then he gets blacklisted kicked, you know, the NFL, blah, blah, blah. But she said why don't they like why don't they have a row? Why don't why aren't they talking about it? Why is everybody talking about it? Yeah. You know? I thought it was, you know, I don't know. I guess I don't think the owners want that. And the owners have a lot of power is. But seventy percent of our football players are African American. And you know, and it just seems to be something that is the elephant in the room. And I thought it was gone after last year to be honest with you because you didn't know. Yeah. No, you knew when the Super Bowl when. No one. So I thought, but you know, because ratings were up for the NFL this year, and you know, when changes have been made to the NFL are watching, blah, blah, blah. But you're I thought make him. Yeah. Let's just sit down everybody and discuss it and get it out there. And then they have Colin Kaepernick panel. And you know, it's Goodell on it and have. Had time to be in the NFL out. Of course, you know, you're so. Near that roundtable. Well, I mean, there's talk about out of touch. Well, he represents the owners being in a job too long. I we saw this happened with baseball to you get someone who's the Commissioner of thing. Like that of over a bunch of billionaire owners, they like having someone that it just seems like you need some it. It shouldn't be like, oh, you're going to be the Commissioner for twenty five thirty years. I don't know wells. The owners can are the only ones that can fire him. Yeah. I know why would they be when he's such a, you know, well, he works soft knuckle. Oh, yeah. No. But I mean, there's no bone. There's no bonus. Yeah. No. He's just like. I don't know. All right. Listen, we come back. We got the dirt alert with Holly. Mytalk one zero seven one everything. So you're telling me, there's a chance entertainment..

"Slash modern love. It's now eight years since hopes piece came out, and she says go has become the stuff of family legend, he continues to live in my daughter's bedroom. She's now in college he sits on top of her bookshelf. And we live in canyon that's NFL zone in Los Angeles, and occasionally we have to evacuate, and whenever we evacuate. I make sure that Fumiko comes with us because he is one of those valued family heirlooms now that we wouldn't want to lose and hopes still remembers her daughter shielding Fumiko from the rain that moment at the very end of the piece struck me because it wasn't just that she presented herself as capable but that I saw her, showing empathy. And when I said that my mother hadn't given me everything, but she'd given me enough. Felt that she'd given me the skills or the care that I needed in order to be able to care for a child and love them with my whole heart, and in that little moment, I felt that there was some confirmation that I had given my daughter the same. And that even if I didn't live to see her into adulthood that still would be the foundation that was most important but hope says she was determined to be with her daughters as they became adults because I was seventeen when my mom died that was sort of always a number in my head. You know, if I can just get both of them to seventeen if I can just be at their high school, graduations, I will have given them most of what they need because my mom gave me most of what I needed. And so as the older one past seventeen in the younger one is right on the cusp. She'll be seventeen in two weeks. I feel like they are have grown into very competent individuals. And I'm not as concerned about them as I was when they were young. But as her daughters have grown hope has entered a new phase of parenting one that she doesn't have a model for we'd hit those moments where maybe I didn't know what to do. Or didn't know, you know, what a mother's role should be in. So I would ask them. And I would say I really don't know how to handle the situation because I had to do this one on my own, and I can see that you know, you'd like some help from easel. Let's talk about how I can best be of support to you. I have gotten to the other side of the adolescent drama with my older daughter, and it's beautiful to have a twenty one year old. She's so terrific. I think I spent a lot of time being anxious and worried that I might not do it. Right. And you know, I'm not one hundred percent sure that there's a way to do it wrong..

"Like, every motherless mother I live with an acute awareness that I can be taken from my children at any time. My biggest fear is leaving them before they can manage alone. Forcing my daughter to care for from me EKO wasn't punishment. It was preparation. If she too had to face motherhood without a mother one day, she'd be better equipped than I had been. But here's where the plan fell apart. By focusing on what I'd lost. I'd lost sight of what my daughter had. If heaven forbid she had a baby anytime soon. She wouldn't have to do it alone. I'd help her. Of course, I'd help her. I'd be there. I was there. And I realized that what this experiment inspired in me, wasn't anger or resentment. But envy. I was envious of my daughter because she had me. That afternoon I met her at the bus stop with an apology. I'll take from EKO today. I said. It's okay, mom. She said breezily. I decided to bring him with me. In my absence. She'd figured out a plan. Wasn't that what I wanted? Then why did I suddenly feel so sad? The next morning for Mekos last day of school. We woke to a soft rain. After breakfast. I daughter strapped him to her chest one last time. Shrugged on her raincoat, crabs an umbrella, and hugged me goodbye. From the front window. I watched her walk to her father's car. I was proud of her for making it through the week. I was proud of myself for finally backing off. And then just as I was about to turn away. I saw a moment of such grace. It nearly stole my breath. As my daughter bent to get into the car her jacket bunched open, and she automatically rounded her shoulders and moved her umbrella closer to keep from a dry. The natural gesture of maternal tenderness was so small it would have been easy to mess. But I think somehow. It was meant for me to see..

"This lasted ten weeks before the better parts of motherhood began. My mother hadn't given me everything. But I discovered that an seventeen years she gave me enough. Still. I never forgot the longing and self doubt of those first months and I never wanted my daughters to feel it. I vowed to be a present helpful mother for as much time as we'd have together. That's how I found myself eleven years later, stitching plastic bags filled with flower into the torso of a life size infant boy. When I finished. I propped him on the kitchen counter, I stared at him. He stared at me. For me co this'll at one. Welcome to the world. The thing about for me co of course, was that he had virtually nothing in common with an actual newborn. He didn't P poop burp spit up or up shrieking like a siren the moment you lay him down. Neither did he break into adorable. Gummy smiles triggering a love. So sudden and huge you didn't know how to make it fit. Despite this he bore a disquieting physical resemblance to a real baby from his DUI gays to Brinkley ankle skin. Monday morning when I walked into the kitchen and saw him balanced on my daughter's hip, I literally tripped? Then I remembered who he was. The site of one's eleven year old daughter with her own baby is automatic parental freakout time, no matter what your politics and for all. I know this was part of the school subliminal plan. The week's message might have been lost on the students. But it surely wasn't lost on the parents, no way. No way. Did we want? Our preteens having babies. After school. When my daughter announced our doll said on the grass and cheered for us during P, but the boys played keep away with theirs. The meaning of parental participation. The came clear. I lifted for me go from the couch and handed him back to my daughter. Diaper change time. I said. And so the week began. Every morning when my daughter strapped Fumi co to her chest. I showed her how to press his head safely against her collarbone. At dinner. He sat in a high chair by her side. Afterward. I made her sweep up the non existent mess when she laid him on her bed to do homework. I instructed if he's old enough for a high chair he's old enough to roll. And had her lay him on the corporate. And still caring for for Meco wasn't work. It was unprecedented. Fun. She wondered aloud if she could take him to school next week too. I on the other hand took an alarming detour into irrationality as the week were on. The more for me coz CARA diverse from real infant care. The more insistent. I became. At night. I'd hijack my daughter's tooth brushing time claiming he needed to be fed. I wouldn't hold him while she showered citing all the showers. I'd skipped as a new mother. I considered setting her alarm for one AM keeping her awake for an hour and waking her again at five. Aren't you taking this too far as my husband, the families voice of reason? But I didn't think so. Wasn't the whole point to make it real. So on Thursday when my daughter asked me to babysit for me co during her after school drama class. I refused. I had to go to the library book deadline was approaching and I needed time to write. But I can't bring them to class. I can't bring a newborn into the library. I said and sent her off. All day. I replayed that scene in my mind. Her request my refusal. Her downcast face. My obstinacy. Her tears. The more. I thought about it the worse I felt. What was wrong with me? I could take for me co to the library or leave him in the trunk of my car. I mean, he was a doll. I could help my daughter. Except I couldn't..

"Graders more to report to school Monday with five pound bags of flour dressed up as dolls and carry them everywhere for the week. The idea was to teach them the responsibilities of teenage parenthood. We encourage parental participation to make this exercise a success. The note concluded. There were so many confusing directives. I didn't know where to begin. How could a flour sack simulate an actual infant? Why did all the newborns way just five pounds and weren't sixth graders a little young for this kind of thing? We pick babies out of a hat today. I eleven year old daughter announced punching a straw for the top of juice box mines boy mongrel pick twins. But she started crying because it would be too hard. So misled her give one back. Exactly what was being taught here. I couldn't help. But wonder. Also mines adopted she continued he's from Japan. I don't think Americans can adopt from Japan. I said mom she said it's a game. But was it. Twenty years ago. I knew a fourteen year old girl who's classmates in a similar exercise carried raw eggs around for a week. The children took it seriously cradling, the eggs between their palms. Crying jagged sobs when they broke still those ninth graders for physically mature enough to get a baby started my daughter and most of her classmates weren't what impression with the week make on a child her age. So far. She just thought it was really cool to take a dull to school. From a website. She chose the name Fumiko because it meant little friend for Mekos middle name. She decided would be from nature. She asked for ideas. I suggested rain river and leaf she promptly vetoed them, then asked me to leave her room. What school memo's never tell you is how much parental participation. Your sixth grader will tolerate eleven year old girls, occupy an Torius Lee wobbly zone between childhood and at a lessening a mother who's an embarrassment in the morning can be someone to adore at dinner and a pariah again by bedtime. Yet beneath this ambulance girls are desperate for reminders that we love them and always will even as their abruptly banishing us from their rooms. From my own fractured. Adolescence, I know mothers patience, and fortitude, are what a daughter remembers most. My mother died of breast cancer when I was in high school too soon to teach me how to change a diaper manage colic or stay sane when my husband drove off each morning leaving me with an infant who cried fourteen hours a day. I never missed. My mother more than when my daughter was born. Friends was newborns had mother's rushing over when they needed relief. There were days. I thought I'd go mad from exhaustion and grief..

The Watch - Reviewing 'The Bodyguard'

"Now I am joined by Juliet Littman to have a shot about bodyguard. Okay. Julia. I've watched on episode five I have not watched episode five, but I'm on episode five. And so this will be a spoiler inclusive episode taking in the first four episodes finished bodyguard. Yes has finished bodyguard. Cayenne, I on the money team with her eyes on Monday when I sit she said, did you watch bodyguard? And I was like watching episode about how about you. She's like watch all I detest around that is nothing wrong with it. In fact, it just makes me feel ashamed as a television podcast her. I wish I had more. I'm like, what do I do? Now. That's a great way to start it off. Yeah. What an incredibly paced show such an amazing like return on investment. You know, does it remind you of homeland. They reminds me of how I felt I season homeland me tale. It's like a feeling I have a TV feeling. I haven't felt in a while, which is exhilarating siding. So I think they I I'm curious about. This. I came to you this morning, and you know, in the third episode of the end of the third episode of bodyguard, they're huge spoiler. Warning. We're spoiling force even sow just one more warning. Here you go. There's an explosion at a speech that the home secretary. Julia Montague extra secretary secretary. How did I sit home state, which is call her mom? There's an explosion at a species giving a college and she passes away from her injuries. She dies from her. She blows. Yeah. It's not funny. No. But I found myself immediately just kind of being like that's not why I was watching the show. I was watching the show because of the central tension between David and Julia, and this idea that they could be so politically and sort of philosophically apart. But so close together in other ways till you're saying you're like shocked bummed that she I was very very ended a romance. And I was very into the tension that they had on screen, and you're saying that you obviously the show's pivoting towards unraveling this conspiracy around Julia's death, Cheryl, but were you disappointed to see that the way it was happening that she died. Yeah. No. I wasn't at all. I didn't really care what their romance. And I'm a big romance person. Obviously, I love melodrama, and I love a soap opera, but I didn't find it that believable. And that's because I really like the show. I find Richard Madden's character a little confused. Ding has so. I can't tell what his true motivation is like is it to be a patriot. Is it choose to avenge the deaths of his friends and Afghantistan? Yeah. Is it is it to pursue a political agenda? I've finished the season as discussed completely know. And to me, that's a failure of writing not acting. Whereas with his counterpart on game of thrones can Harrington. I'd be like, yeah. That guy's the worst actor. So this is the first British television show that has been sort of presented initially is somewhat limited series and turned into a juggernaut. And they've done another series of it's a broad church is not unlike this where if you watch broad church, you're not like what's going to happen in season two broad church. Love Brocher broad church students so popular they were like, well, we have to do something. The fall is lost like that. Would Jamie Dornan Gillian Anderson where they were just like it was pretty much like a who done it like cat and mouse thriller, and then they teased it out for another three or four seasons. Now, you can kind of get away with that England 'cause you can just do a four episode show like. They do Sherlock. Sometimes just three. Yeah. But I do think that this was something where the popularity of bodyguard might have actually changed the way because there's going to be a second season of this show. So it might have changed the perception of
