"And in terms of the limits, at least for the body and white line, they are able to produce a maximum of 500 bodies per week up to a maximum of 2000 bodies in total with this temporary approval. As we had talked about before, previously they were able to build up to 250, so this is a pretty significant increase, and if we think back to Giga Shanghai in sort of that first few months of production, I guess the first two to three Tesla over that period was only making a few hundred and eventually a couple of thousand vehicles. So this should actually give Tesla a pretty good start to be able to ramp production, even without that final approval. I don't know what they do with these cars. I don't know if they can eventually sell them or not. That doesn't matter too much for 250 cars, but when you're talking a couple thousand, that's a $120 million of goods. So I certainly hope so. With this temporary approval just having many granted, I wouldn't necessarily expect a final approval within the next few days or something like that. I probably wouldn't make a lot of sense. So my best guess is it's more a matter of weeks than days at this point, but hopefully this buys Tesla enough time as they wait for that approval. And who knows? Maybe we see another temporary approval increase this again, if not. That kind of seems to be how this whole project has gone anyway. All right, next up we've got some news relevant to Giga Shanghai as we've talked about before CAT L is building a play out there in Shanghai very close to the Gigafactory. While today there is a report from China EV post, citing the Shanghai observer, which apparently has reported that this factory from C ATL has already started supplying Tesla with batteries as early as November 2021. They also say that somehow already this factory even though we kind of just learned about the plans in June and I'm running sure when I started construction, but they're saying that they've already reached 60% of their design capacity..

"Hey everybody, rob mauer here and today as you can probably already tell, I am somehow sick again. So that's awesome. Anyway, I do apologize for my voice today, so thanks for bearing with me on that and hopefully we'll be back to normal on Monday. But today we're talking about Apple adding Tesla to one of their peer groups for their compensation planning, kind of interesting. We'll look at that. Got a couple of updates on the Tesla semi and mega charger, news on Giga Berlin, also C ATL's new battery factory by Giga Shanghai, and a handful of other stories as well. All right, well, what a roller coaster start to 2022 so far, Tesla today finishing down three and a half percent for the fourth red day in a row, causing at $1026, 96 cents now well below where it closed last year before we got the key four delivery report. Another tougher day for tech and growth today, the NASDAQ finishing down about 1% while the Dow was flat from a macro perspective a couple of the hot topics today is that the ten year yield did continue to rise now sitting at about 1.78%, down just a little bit after hitting 1.8% earlier in the morning, but this is a new one year high for the ten year yield, but we are still quite a bit lower than historical levels. The other news was the job report out this morning, new jobs rose by about 200,000 versus expectations of about 420,000. And these reports are always a little bit weird to interpret because fewer jobs would be generally bad news for business, but in the case of the market, bad news unless it's bad enough to cause the fed to kind of reverse the way their dialog has been trending, in which case that would probably end up looking like good news to the market. But the perception seems to be that it's not quite bad enough to be net net. Bad news, so whatever it is what it is, but that's a couple of things going on in the macro today. All right, first up here I wanted to talk a little bit about Apple because there's some interesting news in a new SEC filing from Apple, disclosing some other executive compensation for the year, so media reporting on Tim Cook making a $100 million this year, given everything we've been talking about with Elon Musk. I don't think we really need to spend much time on that. But what was kind of interesting here is that Apple talks about the role of.

"Giga Texas, Gigi Berlin, also an update on the AMD or Ryzen processor Tesla's been using. EV sales in the UK and Tesla energy. All right, Tesla stock on the day to today finishing down about 2.1% to $1064 70 cents the NASDAQ down just one tenth of a percent today, and with a Dow actually underperforming the NASDAQ generator and indicator that girl stocks are probably going to do a little bit better. It was a bit surprising to see Tesla trail seems a little bit more Tesla isolated than the last couple of days have been, as we talked about. Sometimes in those cases, you kind of look at other EV stocks and those all be down kind of together, but mixed results there today. Some up, some down, same thing with traditional automakers, so I don't think anything there are particularly relevant to Tesla's movement. But regardless Tesla is now given up almost the entirety of the gains from Monday, now up less than 1% on the year and earlier this morning, even dipping below that level. That being said, also worth noting that the NASDAQ is down about 4% year to date, so Tess is still doing a bit better so far. All right, so first off today, I want to spend some time talking about some reporting on Giga Shanghai. I think there was some news picked up by Tesla roddy today and a couple of other outlets that is a little bit confusing and admittedly I don't have all the answers here but I think I can help provide at least a little bit of context for this report. So Tesla ride saying Tesla's workforce expansion at Giga Shanghai will grow new model line by 50%. So they say that they picked this up from a Troy test like tweet, which reads, quote, the text below is from the environmental impact assessment of Giga Shanghai expansion. It says they will add 3000 employees to a production line that currently has 6000. And I think that's about as far as a lot of people seem to have taken this news, and then I've seen a lot of conversation about, oh, Giga Shanghai, 50% more workforce than taking the current production rate. So let's say 750,000 and upping that by 50% and saying, oh, the new production rate is going to be 1.1 million or whatever. But that's not really exactly what's going on here so let's take a look all the way through this. Troy's tweet also shares a screenshot of a portion of that environmental impact assessment with the translation at the bottom. There are a couple of portions redacted there, so those are filled in with a dot dot dots, but it says, quote, according to the corporate plan, this time, that the production, area has added 1000 new employees, the new model production area has approximately 3000 new employees, and the new model production area has a labor force of approximately 6000. After the implementation of this project, it will increase to 9000 people and 19,000 employees in the whole factory, C table three ten one for the production cycle and capacity comparison. All right, so first off, let's talk about that new model production area. A lot of people taking that to mean that this would be for the model two or whatever the next generation version would be called. I'm confident that's not the case. I think it's just a sentence structure here. Look at it as a model production area that is new, rather than a production area for a new model. That should be pretty clear because this says that the new model production area has present tense, a labor force of approximately 6000..

"So maybe part of the logic is that if Tesla's getting another temporary permit, then maybe it's still going to be a little bit before that final permit is granted. Tobias does also note that the German government has received all of the documents that they need from Tesla, so there were some stories. I don't know when exactly maybe a couple weeks back, but some reports that some of those documents had been received yet. At least currently it doesn't seem to be the case. So that's where we're at with Berlin still just a waiting game as for Texas, kind of the same boat there. Some people expecting an announcement later this week. We shall see. I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla just throw some sort of an update into the Q four earnings report. That'll be in about three weeks. Then we do also have an update on Giga Shanghai. This is from Wuhan, who does the drone flowers there. He writes that, quote, according to the news, Tesla Shanghai factory internal transformation has begun. The current reservation is small and scale and does not affect production. At this stage, the main production is exporting Tesla and the working hours of employees are 12 hours per shift. So from my understanding, this is the continuation of a previous report that Tesla was going to be expanding from December 2021 through April 2022, adding a fourth General Assembly line, going from three to four lines, simple math on that. That could facilitate an increase of 33% or more in production. As for that 12 hours per shift component, it had previously been reported that Gigafactory Shanghai workers were working in 11 hour shifts, so who was actually saying this is an increase from 11 up to 12. Could possibly see increased production from that as well. Next on the docket, we've got a status update on the lawsuit of Tesla by Nikola motors. This was a $2 billion lawsuit in regard to the design of the Tesla semi. I say was because the lawsuit is no longer both Tesla Nicola filed to drop all claims and counterclaims against each other on this action. However, it was dismissed without prejudice, which means that the case could be pursued at a later time if things change in either company decides that they do want to end up pursuing it. I won't expect that. This is probably the last we'll hear of it, but that is a possibility. No updates on if Tesla decided to change anything, I would really doubt it. I think it's highly likely that Nicola just decided to stop pursuing. All right, next up here we've got an update from redwood materials and this actually is directly related to Tesla as well because redwood is going to be working with Panasonic for materials for the Gigafactory. Redwood materials writes quote by the end of 2022, Panasonic North America will include redwoods copper foil, produced from recycled materials back into new battery production at the Gigafactory. This will be the first time batteries will be recycled, remanufactured, and returned to the same factory and a closed loop. So kind of cool to see that. Obviously, redwood materials founded by JB straubel, former cofounder of Tesla, former CTO. Nice to see you a little bit of a reconnection there..

"It's been a really rough two days for the NASDAQ. And of course, Tesla has also talked about that. We do also have some Tesla specific news in terms of Giga Berlin, Giga Shanghai, resolution of a lawsuit. We've got some updates from redwood materials GM, Amazon, and Sony. All right, so looking at the markets Tesla today, rough day, down 5.3% to $1088, 12 cents, and after such a strong Monday after that Q four delivery report, Tesla is now down 9.3% over the last two days. Let's bring in some more context here, though, the NASDAQ today obviously down three and a third percent. That is the worst day for the NASDAQ. And nearly an entire year the last day, the NASDAQ was down more than this was February 25th last year. Of course, yesterday was pretty tough too. So if we look at the two day change, the NASDAQ actually down about 4.6% over the last two days, that is the second worst two day period for the NASDAQ since the beginning of last year. The only worst two day period was March 2nd to March 4th, when the NASDAQ was down about four and three quarters percent. So what was Tesla's performance over those two days in March last year? Well, Tesla was down 9 and a half percent. And remember this year during this stretch, decile down 9.3%. So I think these last couple of days perfectly illustrate how big of an impact in the short term the macro environment can have. In my view, that's probably 95% plus of the move that we have seen in Tesla for the last two days. So in terms of Tesla on its own, don't panic, must of course you are concerned about the macro environment. Someone just asked me recently, what are my plans if there is a recession? Well, recessions create great opportunities for long-term investors to buy into really great businesses at discounted rates. If Tesla falls a lot, Tesla, it's going to be under that category of being a really great business. Tesla's got a great management team, a great balance sheet, great demand, great margins, great competitive advantages. There's no place I'd rather have my money in a recession than in Tesla. Now obviously, you got to be careful with the leverage. That's how people get burned and can't recover, but if you hold a great business, you're going to see the other side of it. Just look at Apple through 2008. The stock lost 60% of its value recovered back to the peak in less than a year and went on to then double. And of course, since then, it's up a nice little 75 X so that's basically my general plan just kind of always making sure that I'm not leveraged to a point where I couldn't survive something like that. I'm certainly not going to be the type of person to try to go into all cash and then buy the shares back at a huge discount if a recession were to happen. I don't have enough confidence in my ability to be able to time the microenvironment in that way. Now, I don't really expect a major recession, something like 2008, but who knows? So that was kind of an aside. Let's take a look at what was actually going on with the market today. The fed did release their meeting minutes from their meeting on December 14th and 15th. So it recognized that there is a fair amount of latency with this information and things do change pretty quickly right now. But The Wall Street Journal reports that the minute showed that, quote, officials believed that rising inflation and a very tight labor market could cough or lifting short term rates sooner or at a faster pace than participants had earlier anticipated. End quote. They also note that, quote, some officials also thought the fed should start shrinking its $8.76 trillion portfolio of bonds and other assets relatively soon after beginning to raise rates the minute set. "Sometimes not always, but definitely seems to have some sort of access to information. Anyway, this account posted on Twitter today, quote, such a big surprise, see you Friday. End quote. Now remember this account only ever posts about China domestic sales, so I would assume they're excited about a big number specifically for that and for context we have to look back at what domestic sales have been in previous months rather than looking at total production. And the peak for domestic sales for any one month was back in September at the end of Q three at right around 52,000 vehicles. So I would assume this implies a better number than that for December. Still, though, because this is the last month of the quarter, the export number might be small, even though Tesla says that they're trying to unwind the delivery wave. Old habits die hard, so I wouldn't expect a huge export number in December. So even a really strong domestic delivery number might not be quite as encouraging as it might seem at first. Me personally, I would be very happy with any number above 60,000. That's sort of in the ballpark of what I expect for production for Giga Shanghai for December. The other news that we have for China is that it is being reported that four 2022, China will lift the foreign investment restrictions, which require for an automakers to operate under joint ventures in China. That will be lifted, and now they can own 100% of their Chinese operations. Now, of course, for Tesla, that doesn't change anything because Tesla was granted an exception to that and does already have 100% ownership of their operations in China, but still, that will level the playing field for others to now do the same. All right, last item for today is on Hyundai the Korea economic daily is reporting that Hyundai is closing the engine development division at their R and D center in South Korea to instead focus on development of electric powertrains and an email they acquired from the R and D chief, reads quote, now it is inevitable to convert into electrification, our own engine development is a great achievement, but we must change the system to create future innovation based on the great asset from the past. So I think definitely encouraging to see that smart move by Hyundai in my opinion and this continues to put the writing on the wall, which I think we have all seen for a long time, but again, kind of like we talked about in that interview with Alex botter the more decisions like this that are made, the clear the message is to supply chains and other stakeholders as well. "Everybody rob our hugh. Welcome back to tesla daily today. We've got some rumors to go through from china. Texas and fremont than we have some news on tesla in india couple updates from ilan over the last couple of days news on tesla energy and more. Pretty nice start to the week. Four tesla stock today finishing up two point seven percent to seven hundred. Thirty dollars ninety cents compared to the nasdaq up. Nine tenths of a percent. You may have noticed last week that i didn't start all the episodes out with the stock price. Most of you know that. I don't actually care about the daily movement of the stock so i think that's kinda the wrong message to start off each episode with that. I've kind of always done. Just to have a historical marker. For when we go back to older episodes. I think it's kind of nice to have. But i'm not sure that's worth the connotation that carries to begin each episode with that so if you have any particular thoughts on that let me on the comments. But that's kinda why. I haven't been doing that as much. Obviously we'll still talk about the stock especially if there are big moves anyway. We'll start off today with a couple of rumors from china. I up august domestic sales. So this is from the tesla. Shanghai twitter account. We've talked about them. In the past the account does have a pretty decent track record. We'll go through a little bit more of that in a second but couple of days ago. They tweeted quote dessel. China sold about ten point four k. In august excluding export month over month up twenty one percent and the shanghai has a week off because of the shortage of parts and quote so obviously important to emphasize that that is just retail sales so domestic sales. If we put that into our chart tentatively we can see how important those export numbers are in july tesla sold about eight point six thousand retail in china and then exported over twenty four thousand vehicles. And because tesla shifted over giga shanghai to be the export hub with all a free month's production going into north america high exports are again expected for tesla from china in august ship tracking at the ports has already been indicating that throughout the month and september. That should be a different story. Export should come way down. Retail sales should come way up as tussle prioritize. Those shorter lead time domestic sales in the last month of the quarter so the september china retail sales number. That's gonna tell us a whole lot more about both the situation in china and tussles over all quarter. We can't learn too much from this until we get those export numbers which should happen in about a week. Nevertheless for the sake of completeness i have been tracking the tesla shanghai earlier numbers versus the numbers that later get reported by the cbc and with a couple of exceptions they are generally very close so pretty good track record perhaps worth noting though that this tweet was two days before the end of the month that may be should increase the margin of error but that ten point four is a pretty precise prediction. The track record is imperfect. Remember back in june. This account had said that cute you. Sales were down sixteen percent from kiana and then about a week later said up. Note down eleven percent. The down eleven percent ended up being right and that i number was about a week before the end of the month on like this two days before so all things considered my guess is that ten thousand four hundred number is close but we should see an again about a week..

"Next today. We have news on a tesla factory in china. Not giga shanghai. But tesla super charger factory. That we've been talking about for the last couple of months. Looks like that has now officially started production per jane. Shanghai on twitter tesla gains demonstrating incredible speed here with this project. Being launched less than six months ago previous reports had indicated that tesla intends to produce about ten thousand superchargers per year out of this factory which should allow for roughly. A doubling of super charger deployments in two thousand twenty tesla added seven thousand chargers but more than half of those came in q. Four so thirty eight hundred in q. Four if that cue for rate is annualized. That's about fifteen thousand per year but we don't necessarily know if tussles actually at that run rate for q four or if that was just stock that built up and was deployed in q four from super charger production. That have occurred earlier in the year. But roughly it looks like this should be a doubling of tusla super charger capacity in terms of new installs per year. If tesla can get this you protect your factory up to capacity and the next couple of quarters and if their capacity outside of this factory is something around fifteen thousand level. We could be in line for something near a doubling of the super charger network in two thousand twenty. One

"Today we're going to go through a detailed forecasts for q four delivery and production numbers for tesla. The reason we're doing this today is because we finally have critical piece of information that can help inform this forecast and that is gigafactory shanghai production numbers from the china passenger car association so earlier this week we had talked about the model three sales numbers in china for october. But we didn't yet have the production numbers those have now been released by the a and they are very strong. I think even better than the most bullish forecast that. I have seen so october production out of your factory. Shanghai was reported to be twenty two thousand nine hundred and twenty nine model threes so put the context around just how strong that number is. Let's hop into my forecasting spreadsheet. If you haven't this yet just orientate you. Each row is a different period of time and then in each group of columns here. I have production numbers so i have total production fremont production shanghai production and then i break that down to a weekly level and level those production rates on a weekly and daily level are incredibly important. Because sometimes tesla has known downtime. So looking at monthly or quarterly production doesn't really give us the full picture that weekly daily dust and then on the color scheme here gray numbers are known those have been reported by tesla or figured out by us. With high high competence. Orange numbers are also high competence but are based off of reports out of china. Blue numbers are estimates kind of fill in the between the two and then yellow. Our future forecasts are at so getting back to the shanghai numbers. Then if we look tober that twenty two thousand nine hundred twenty nine production number divided over the four point. Four weeks in october yields a weekly production rate of five thousand one hundred seventy eight model threes per week from shanghai. This is much greater than the twenty eight hundred and fifty produced each week over the course of q. Three however if we flip back to september actually got a bit of a hint. That numbers like this. Were on the way from tesla. So total september dessel only produced about twelve thousand two hundred vehicles that was actually down slightly from august and july. But what people may have missed. Is that tesla. Actually had shutdown gigafactory shanghai from september twentieth. To september thirtieth. So if you take those days out tesla actually produced about forty five hundred model threes per week in september over the two point seven production weeks where they weren't shut down so it looked like tesla's kind of leveling off production at about twelve thousand per month but actually took a huge step forward in september in terms of the production rate. We see that then continue into october and even accelerate while the monthly production takes a massive step forward from twelve thousand all the way up to almost twenty three thousand because there was no downtime in october so this production rate almost fifty two hundred per week. October has huge implications for the balance of q four if we even just extrapolate that rate tesla's at now that ends up being sixty eight thousand model threes produced from shanghai in q four their few reasons. We've seen this massive jump in production rate from shanghai first off. They've obviously just ramped up their production rate. One of the ways. They've been able to do that though is by adding another shift to shanghai. Depending on what estimate you're looking at that seems to have added about thirty to fifty percent of production hours from employees so that's filled out the production capacity and then we've also seen tesla star utilizing. The lithium iron phosphate batteries from cat l. And if they were battery constrained before this seems to have done a lot to alleviate that at this level so as far as i know there is not going to be any significant downtime in q. Four but definitely if you have any information on that let me know if there is not and we continue this rate at sixty thousand but tesla has been ramping up production from september through october. So there's no certainty that this production rate is going to hold through the rest of the quarter rather than continuing to increase. We also have a report from tasmanian today. Which has heard from a source that quote the current model three production has now surpassed fifty seven hundred units per week and quote. We've also been talking now for quite a while about how you four could be. The start of production for the shanghai made model. Y the latest. We've heard on that. Is that might actually happen in november so we could even see some production model y contributing to these keefer numbers so if we flip back to the forecasting sheet here and we look at my forecast. I'm gonna actually forecast even a little bit lower than that rumored production rate from tasmanian. I'm gonna project about a three four percent increase for the next couple of months here in shanghai. I think this is relatively conservative. But this could change. If there are periods of downtime or if the model y ramp for some reason impacts the model three production rate but i do think this is pretty reasonable and again hopefully a little bit conservative for shanghai so for november production weekly. I'm at about fifty three hundred and fifty and then for december a couple hundred more about fifty five hundred and fifty. That gets me to you again. About twenty three thousand four november and about twenty four thousand five hundred four december for total q for production out of shanghai at about seventy thousand five hundred vehicles. Now obviously that's pretty high that would be higher than tesla stated production capacity and accused three report which they listed at two hundred and fifty thousand. But we've already seen them beat that production rate throughout the entire month of october if the numbers are accurate that october production rate already analyzes to about two hundred and seventy thousand vehicles so they've already demonstrated rate above that listed capacity for what it's worth if tesla can bump that production capacity up to fifty seven hundred for november and december. That would add another couple thousand to this forecast so these numbers for shanghai have big implications for q four and for next year. But let's stick with four. Let's rounded out by looking at fremont production so that we can work into the total for kiefer and for the year in q. Three tesla produced about one hundred and forty five thousand vehicles in total. About thirty seven thousand. Five hundred of those came from shanghai so that we as a little over one hundred seven thousand two had to have come from fremont if we divide that by the thirteen point one weeks on the quarter. That's about eighty two hundred per week beyond that. We know that tessa produced just under seventeen thousand as an ex. Those obviously came from fremont that we've just over ninety thousand model y model three from fremont produced and q. Three as we get more granular. It became more speculative but based on vins and other information out there. I have estimated that cute to model production was about eleven thousand vehicles out of fremont and the q. Three was about thirty three thousand leaving the balance then for model three so q four based on the prior ramp up that we had seen from the model three. I'm estimating that tests. I can bump that model wipe production up to about fifty three thousand in q. Four so about twenty thousand more vehicles. Which if my q two and q three breakdowns are close. It'd be similar to increase that. We saw quarter to quarter there. If we look back at how the model three ramp progressed. The should be doable and q. Two twenty eighteen tessa produced about twenty eight thousand mile threes and then in q three two thousand eighteen about fifty three thousand so actually showing even a less sharp increase for model y than what we previously seen for the model three despite tesla having a lot more experience now and the model being a similar vehicle to the model three so again i think this is pretty reasonable and hopefully even bit conservative as for model three we have tended to see that production rate fall and then sort of flat line as model. Why has ramped up. I think one of the questions. There is okay that a demand thing less demand for the model three the model y ramps or is that a battery supply constraint where the model three production is held back due to batteries being shifted and being used for the monowai. I assume it's a battery supply constraint. But if it's demand i think tesla has pulled the levers here with the refresh plus q four is always seasonally stronger and as somebody that has ordered a model three this quarter and has having to wait significantly longer than i would prefer. There certainly doesn't seem to be any demand shortage. So i think the only constraint here is likely to be batteries for that reason and because we're already forecasting growth for the model y. I'm not gonna forecast much of an increase in production for the model three here. Only about one percent to about fifty eight thousand from fremont key four that puts our combined fremont model y and fremont model three at about one hundred eleven thousand for the quarter to me. That feels pretty good because again in q. Three that number was about ninety thousand but if we look back to tussled q three earnings report specifically about fremont they said quote production should reach fo capacity toward the end of this year or beginning of next year end quote. The production capacity for model three and model y out of fremont is five hundred thousand per year. So that's one hundred twenty five thousand per quarter if they didn't ninety thousand in q. Three and they're trying to target one hundred twenty five thousand production rate at the end of q. Four well if we just assume a linear ramp up throughout the quarter we can just use the midpoint of those numbers and that would give us a hundred and twelve thousand five hundred for four now on one hand. They said they hoped to reach that production rate by the end of the quarter or early in q. One but on the other hand the ninety thousand production number that we used from q. Three is the total key. Three production rate. It was probably higher towards the end of the quarter. So with all that. Said i think one hundred and eleven thousand is right in the ballpark of where tesla could end up for fremont for a wyan model. Three in q four. Oh we have left. Then as s and x tesla's the fremont capacity at ninety thousand there. That's twenty two thousand five hundred per quarter. We've also seen updates this quarter the model s. price declines the range in the model x. has been increased so even though tesla has been for the last few quarters running at about fifteen thousand per quarter for s and x and peaking at about eighteen thousand last four. I'm expecting a decent jump here from an xm. Forecasting nineteen thousand. But i do think there's potential that it could be even a bit higher. Let's just take a quick look here and then see how this all looks visually. And then we'll wrap up with the final numbers so here we have our weekly production rates. Each quarter for in blue fremont an orange shanghai and in both cases these are excluding known shutdown that we've had from corona virus or factory retooling. Whatever the case may be so for q. Three shanghai ended up excluding that final ten days at about thirty two hundred per week and here for four. We haven't projected to jump up about fifty three hundred per week but it fits pretty nicely with the linear uptrend that we have seen and again in september already tussles producing at about forty five hundred per week so it seems extremely reasonable and it's not unprecedented in the past we have seen in fremont tesla increased their production rate quarter over quarter by almost two thousand vehicles per week thousand one. We talked about before with the model three ramp up so similar thing here. Then for fremont we're going from about eighty two hundred per week in q. Three up to about ninety nine hundred per week in q four about seventeen hundred more per week but again definitely not unprecedented looking back at tesla's history are at so with all that context. We'll hop back into our spreadsheet here and all these numbers combined give me a cue for production total fremont and shanghai both of two hundred thousand five hundred and seventy eight vehicles. I know that might sound like a lot. But again tesla lists their production capacity at eight hundred and forty thousand in the q three earnings report and while the production rate doesn't necessarily equal and sawed capacity we've actually seen them exceed that installed capacity listing in shanghai in october. So if we add that two hundred thousand to what tesla's already produced so far this year that would get them to five hundred and thirty thousand vehicles produce for twenty twenty as for deliveries and whether tessa will deliver more vehicles than they produce in q four. I think there's a couple of factors there. We have really low days of inventory. So tesla's not working with a lot of stock but on the other hand that they are increasing the localization of their production which helps lower the required amount of stock. Because you just have less shipping time. So i'll have to spend a little bit more time thinking about that. I think it'll be relatively close to production and with what tesla has delivered so far year to date. They need a little over one. Hundred and eighty thousand vehicles delivered in q four to meet five hundred thousand for the year. And i think they'll exceed that by a pretty significant margin so i'll spend more time thinking about how deliveries might vary from production. But we've already seen them beat that production rate throughout the entire month of october if the numbers are accurate that october production rate already analyzes to about two hundred and seventy thousand vehicles so they've already demonstrated rate above that listed capacity for what it's worth if tesla can bump that production capacity up to fifty seven hundred for november and december. That would add another couple thousand to this forecast so these numbers for shanghai have big implications for q four and for next year. But let's stick with four. Let's rounded out by looking at fremont production so that we can work into the total for kiefer and for the year in q. Three tesla produced about one hundred and forty five thousand vehicles in total. About thirty seven thousand. Five hundred of those came from shanghai so that we as a little over one hundred seven thousand two had to have come from fremont if we divide that by the thirteen point one weeks on the quarter. That's about eighty two hundred per week beyond that. We know that tessa produced just under seventeen thousand as an ex. Those obviously came from fremont that we've just over ninety thousand model y model three from fremont produced and q. Three as we get more granular. It became more speculative but based on vins and other information out there. I have estimated that cute to model production was about eleven thousand vehicles out of fremont and the q. Three was about thirty three thousand leaving the balance then for model three so q four based on the prior ramp up that we had seen from the model three. I'm estimating that tests. I can bump that model wipe production up to about fifty three thousand in q. Four so about twenty thousand more vehicles. Which if my q two and q three breakdowns are close. It'd be similar to increase that. We saw quarter to quarter there. If we look back at how the model three ramp progressed. The should be doable and q. Two twenty eighteen tessa produced about twenty eight thousand mile threes and then in q three two thousand eighteen about fifty three thousand so actually showing even a less sharp increase for model y than what we previously seen for the model three despite tesla having a lot more experience now and the model being a similar vehicle to the model three so again i think this is pretty reasonable and hopefully even bit conservative as for model three we have tended to see that production rate fall and then sort of flat line as model. Why has ramped up. I think one of the questions. There is okay that a demand thing less demand for the model three the model y ramps or is that a battery supply constraint where the model three production is held back due to batteries being shifted and being used for the monowai. I assume it's a battery supply constraint. But if it's demand i think tesla has pulled the levers here with the refresh plus q four is always seasonally stronger and as somebody that has ordered a model three this quarter and has having to wait significantly longer than i would prefer. There certainly doesn't seem to be any demand shortage. So i think the only constraint here is likely to be batteries for that reason and because we're already forecasting growth for the model y. I'm not gonna forecast much of an increase in production for the model three here. Only about one percent to about fifty eight thousand from fremont key four that puts our combined fremont model y and fremont model three at about one hundred eleven thousand for the quarter to me. That feels pretty good because again in q. Three that number was about ninety thousand but if we look back to tussled q three earnings report specifically about fremont they said quote production should reach fo capacity toward the end of this year or beginning of next year end quote. The production capacity for model three and model y out of fremont is five hundred thousand per year. So that's one hundred twenty five thousand per quarter if they didn't ninety thousand in q. Three and they're trying to target one hundred twenty five thousand production rate at the end of q. Four well if we just assume a linear ramp up throughout the quarter we can just use the midpoint of those numbers and that would give us a hundred and twelve thousand five hundred for four now on one hand. They said they hoped to reach that production rate by the end of the quarter or early in q. One but on the other hand the ninety thousand production number that we used from q. Three is the total key. Three production rate. It was probably higher towards the end of the quarter. So with all that. Said i think one hundred and eleven thousand is right in the ballpark of where tesla could end up for fremont for a wyan model. Three in q four. Oh we have left. Then as s and x tesla's the fremont capacity at ninety thousand there. That's twenty two thousand five hundred per quarter. We've also seen updates this quarter the model s. price declines the range in the model x. has been increased so even though tesla has been for the last few quarters running at about fifteen thousand per quarter for s and x and peaking at about eighteen thousand last four. I'm expecting a decent jump here from an xm. Forecasting nineteen thousand. But i do think there's potential that it could be even a bit higher. Let's just take a quick look here and then see how this all looks visually. And then we'll wrap up with the final numbers so here we have our weekly production rates. Each quarter for in blue fremont an orange shanghai and in both cases these are excluding known shutdown that we've had from corona virus or factory retooling. Whatever the case may be so for q. Three shanghai ended up excluding that final ten days at about thirty two hundred per week and here for four. We haven't projected to jump up about fifty three hundred per week but it fits pretty nicely with the linear uptrend that we have seen and again in september already tussles producing at about forty five hundred per week so it seems extremely reasonable and it's not unprecedented in the past we have seen in fremont tesla increased their production rate quarter over quarter by almost two thousand vehicles per week thousand one. We talked about before with the model three ramp up so similar thing here. Then for fremont we're going from about eighty two hundred per week in q. Three up to about ninety nine hundred per week in q four about seventeen hundred more per week but again definitely not unprecedented looking back at tesla's history are at so with all that context. We'll hop back into our spreadsheet here and all these numbers combined give me a cue for production total fremont and shanghai both of two hundred thousand five hundred and seventy eight vehicles. I know that might sound like a lot. But again tesla lists their production capacity at eight hundred and forty thousand in the q three earnings report and while the production rate doesn't necessarily equal and sawed capacity we've actually seen them exceed that installed capacity listing in shanghai in october. So if we add that two hundred thousand to what tesla's already produced so far this year that would get them to five hundred and thirty thousand vehicles produce for twenty twenty as for deliveries and whether tessa will deliver more vehicles than they produce in q four. I think there's a couple of factors there. We have really low days of inventory. So tesla's not working with a lot of stock but on the other hand that they are increasing the localization of their production which helps lower the required amount of stock. Because you just have less shipping time. So i'll have to spend a little bit more time thinking about that. I think it'll be relatively close to production and with what tesla has delivered so far year to date. They need a little over one. Hundred and eighty thousand vehicles delivered in q four to meet five hundred thousand for the year. And i think they'll exceed that by a pretty significant margin so i'll spend more time thinking about how deliveries might vary from production. But i guess for how you can put me down for two hundred thousand deliveries for key for

"Everybody robbing our here and today we're going to start off talking about about Tesla stock obviously a tough day for the markets. Today, we have some news on Mata. Why from gigabytes win an update from consumer reports on self driving technology and some news on the Fiat Chrysler Tesla credit situation. So Tesla's stock today was down four point four percent to four hundred and six dollars two cents compared to the Nasdaq down three point seven percent. So I think most of that move tesla was macro driven the S. and P. Five hundred and the Dow Jones Index had their worst days since. June I don't think volatility should be expected. Of course, we're heading into the US federal election next that's on Tuesday and a lot of places. Today are attributing the down market to a continued rise in covid nineteen cases, and in some locations that is causing restrictions that had previously been relaxed to be put back in place. So for example, I'm pretty close to Chicago. We heard today or yesterday that they are closing down indoor dining, and as we head into winter, obviously outdoor dining can be a little bit less appealing. So that can have even bigger economic impact than it would have during. The summer months for example and places like Colorado there at restrictions, doing things like closing down gyms. So we're seeing this all happen at the same time as the election approaches we haven't heard much on another round of stimulus or other. We have heard a lot about it, but we're not seeing any action there yet, and all that seems to be weighing on the stock. But at least at this point in time I don't see a whole lot of fundamental impact for Tesla. I'd be really surprised if had to end up shutting factory again I think eons comments and actions last time. That happened would make it difficult move politically to do that, but it's also not outside the realm of Boston. So we'll keep an eye on things as they develop. All right next up here we've got a story from Tusla Roddy, and before we even get into this unrest GonNa, add a huge preface that this report is just based on one person's interaction with one tesla employees. So a Lotta Times, information like this can just be completely inaccurate, but we're also here just trying find any little tidbit of information that we can. So I do think we're talking about. So test the ratty got. A message from a reservation holder for a model. Y. In the Netherlands and this person told Tesla Rati quote this morning. I got a call from Tesla in the Netherlands with some questions on my order. In that conversation, the Tesla employee told me that they expected deliver my Berlin build model y in q one or q two of twenty, twenty one they had just received an internal update on the billing process and Berlin and quote. So if we again go back to you this nice little timeline that was put together by Toby lend on twitter, we can see that four. Giga Shanghai. It took about five months ago from the first walls being constructed to the first body and and then a little bit over three months after that for first deliveries if Berlin can stay on the same schedule which so far it's actually been a little bit ahead of schedule from what the timeline was for. Shanghai could be looking at the first body and white sometime in January, and then maybe first deliveries sometime around April or may even March, and again that's based on Shanghai and there does seem to right now at least be a possibility of Berlin dragging even faster the other recent information. We got here was from the earnings call when dramatically no. When asked about the use of the pilot for forty six eighty cells and Fremont said quote we can use our pilot production facility in Fremont to support the new factory and Berlin as it ramps and quote. So within twelve months Tesla. Hopes to get that pilot lion to ten gigawatt hours of annual battery production that's a hundred and thirty three, thousand, seventy, five, kilowatt hour packs, and while it's not going to media, we hit that rate it shouldn't be too long from now where the output is you know maybe thousand or two. Thousand packs per month that would seem to hopefully track nicely along with the model why ramp up in Berlin. So again, on book this, saying take this with a grain of salt but to me, this does seem like a pretty plausible timeline q one or to, and this is obviously going to be even more interesting than normal vehicle ramp up would be because of the new technology tesla will be using in the Monowai. From Berlin I think we're all incredibly curious to see what the specs on that vehicle are give thing just while we're on the topic of motto that I want to. Motto I production is just about to explode. Next year I mean think about Tesla said in the ten Q, they're trying to ramp model white production not only in Shanghai not only Berlin but also in Texas in addition to having production of the why in Fremont came out on production on model y over the next two years is going to be incredible and prices are gonNA, come way down on that vehicle as production volume and look Liz ation increase. All right. Let's move onto the next topic here. This is from consumer reports. This got a lot of media attention. Today we're not gonNA spend on the time on it, but consumer reports today came out with their rankings for driver assistance systems, testing such systems from seventeen different automakers, and they actually have Cadillac supercrew coming out on top with a score of sixty nine and Tesla autopilot coming in second with a score of fifty seven. So of course, a lot of attention on this. But as I emphasized in the beginning, this is consumer reports testing for driver assistance systems.

First Berlin Production Equipment, New Largest Supercharger Location, Daimler Emissions

"Our here, and today we have a super charger network update, which is nice. Little throwback for those of you that have listened to the podcast for a long time I used to do those every day at the start of the podcast. We also have some news on Berlin paint a small little updates slash rumor. I would call it on Battery Day and the news on Daimler Nikola Motor as. Well. Tesla stock with another really strong day to day even though it was relatively quiet news wise finishing up seven point two percent to four hundred and forty nine dollars seventy six sense that compared to the Nasdaq up one point two percent we'll start off with these super charger news. This is coming from Brian Mac se on twitter, who is a long-time listener and I believe Patriot supporter of. The podcast who happen to come across a super charger network location under construction near Firebaugh California. As far as I can tell, this location had not yet been noticed. So upon Brian tweeting these out Tesla Motors Club Forum members did some digging on this and they were actually able to find that the permit for the site as well as planning documents for sort of a conglomerate travel center at. This location those documents disclosed that Tessa. We'll have fifty six spots for Tesla charging at this travel center. Assuming each of those spaces has a super charger associated with it. fifty-six chargers would put this as the largest superchargers location in North America and possibly in the world surpassing cattleman city in the United States at forty chargers and believe in China, there are a couple locations that have fifty chargers. So. Pretty exciting this location is between San Francisco and La driven miles. It's about two hundred and thirty miles from La and about one hundred and fifty from San Francisco. It's not clear if these will be all version three superchargers but I'd have to imagine that they would be and as far as other features go. It looks like about two thirds of them thirty eight of the fifty six. will be pull through hopefully accommodating the use of a trailer and making things a bit easier for the cyber truck and potentially also accommodating the semi of course, cincy unveil of the semi. We haven't heard much more about Tesla's mega charger plans. So hopefully, we get a bit of an update on that during battery debt. Right next today is an update on Gigabytes Lynn gigafactory underscore four on twitter. Has Been following. The gigafactory development closely looks like some equipment has started to arrive, and some of that equipment carries branding for Geico Tikey Shah? which is a paintshop solutions provider based in Milan Italy. There's also some signing there that is co branded between that company and desolate GEICO take show describes their approach by saying quote innovation is our weapon of choice were constantly increasing the technological possibilities in. Order to meet the needs of the most demanding customers in a highly competitive sector and quote they also seem to be heavily focused on sustainability and they're their paintshop operations. They have a project called the party's project, and they say quote with the Party's project launched in two thousand, five Geico Kotecki show was the world's first company to offer zero environmental impact paintshop reducing consumption by seventy percent and. So. Without really knowing much more about the company does he pretty good fit for Tesla we know Tesla has pretty big aspirations with the shop and gigabyte Lin Yuan talked about it many times and even setting Matt aside, it's good to start to see some production equipment on the grounds of Giga Berlian and though I haven't seen it yet. Maybe this gives us another milestone to compare the progress with Giga Shanghai from what I can. Tell, it looks like paintshop equipment started being put in place at Giga. Shanghai. In early to mid August of two thousand, nineteen with production of course, then starting about four months later. So if that's the case, if Berlin falls a similar time line that could potentially project out to start production and January probably best to keep expectations for later than that but I do think it's helpful to keep an eye on how those timelines compare all Right next up today is something that could end up being completely nothing but I thought it was at least interesting enough to share earlier today Fred Lammert over at electric tweeted out a couple of images of him holding a pretty significantly sized battery cell and Fred Ask if anyone has seen this battery cell before or you have some information about them, please reach out to him. A says also by the way, this new cell May. Or may not have been made by Tesla I don't really have much speculation to add this. A couple of people on twitter were saying that it does look like a tablets design which we've talked about and past episodes. Last couple of pieces of news here. Today I on Daimler Daimler has reached a settlement with the US government to pay one and a half billion dollars and settlements and penalties to the US and California State to resolve allegations of Daimler using emissions test cheating software to conceal the actual emissions from vehicles even with the settlement, and despite the fact that engineers at the EPA found software designed to cheat the emissions tests. Damore denies wrongdoing saying quote as stated in the consent degrees the. Class Action Settlement the company denies the authorities allegations as well as the class action plaintiffs claims and does not admit any liability to the United States. California plaintiffs or otherwise and quote. So I don't know kind of disappointing to see a settlement of that nature that doesn't require the admission of fault with such seemingly strong evidence against Daimler right lasting today is a quick update on Nikola Motors. It sounds like from the comments yesterday that most of you preferred that I don't do significantly. So if we go. . Back to two, , thousand, , seventeen, for , example, , cutie, , Tesla deployed one, , hundred, , seventy, six , megawatts of solar energy versus this most recent you only twenty seven megawatts of solar. . There are a lot of reasons for that. . The business model has shifted significantly but right now it's not at the point that at once what's Tesla's hope? ? Of course is that the solar roof changes that about which started in their cute you letter that quote solar roof installations roughly tripled in Q. to compare to key one, , we continue to expand our installation team to increase the deployment rate and quote of course, , this is a new product so to starting from a very low base for Tesla from. . Now, , offering the lowest price systems in the United States at least at a dollar forty, , nine per watt after incentives under cutting other systems and the US by about thirty percent on average. . So plenty of reasons to be hopeful that Tesla is on the precipice returning to growth for the solar business and are on their way to finding a business model that works for them consistently for solar going forward. . Next today on into provide an update to yesterday's discussion on delivery wait times. . I've seen a few comments noting that those have changed for people today they have actually changed for me as well. . So the model y currently sets for the all wheel drive version at seven to eleven weeks for me here in the Midwest two to four weeks for the performance for the Model S. and the Model X. Both of those currently sit at eight to twelve weeks versus yesterday's ten to fourteen. Weeks . and the model three has held steady for all trims at two to four weeks. .
