"This week's Amazon Prime flash tale may not be all it's chalked up to be. Third party researchers are saying the prime day sales generating the same traffic as any regular day. Bloomberg said ludlow asked jameel, Ghani, Amazon's head of prime about the data. Here's how he responded. I don't know if that's the accurate read. We've been really impressed with how many prime members are showing up, how they're engaging with the event and how they're shopping. They're shopping the entire store, some of the favorite categories so far are electronics toys home, apparel, health and personal care, top brands like Apple, laneige, HP, shark, and many, many others, including items off our curated top 100 list. So we've been really, really happy with the events so far. Our members can engage through midnight tonight, so I encourage them to check it out. What is Amazon tracking to do for this October window in dollar terms relative to July? Can you give us some granularity about the impacts of having a second window in the same calendar year? Yeah, we have to keep in mind that prime day this year was the largest prime day we've ever had $1.7 billion in savings for our members around the globe. And so what we're trying to do with this event is give our prime members yet another opportunity to say, we know that our members are always looking for savings, but no more than now where the macroeconomic economic environment has everybody trying to make the dollar stretch a little bit further. And so this is an opportunity for 48 hours for our members to get an exclusive jump on their holiday shopping. Its needs and wants across the entire store. And so far the engagement has been really strong. So it's too early to tell. But I expect that there will be deals throughout the event. That's something that we learned in prime day that our members like top brands and they like having deals throughout the entire event. You're going to continue to see that through midnight tonight. So this window will not be as big as the July window. It's too early to tell, but we're very excited by the early engagement. And it is the kick-off to the entire holiday season. We're going to have deals and discounts throughout the entire period. Black Friday, cyber Monday, continue to be incredibly important, but we want to take care of our most engaged or most important customers first. Those are our prime members. And so this is the kick-off to the season. That is interesting. The idea around the pull forward in holiday spending. Can you talk to me about how that might help clear out some inventories ahead of the holiday season? Yeah, you know, this event is not about inventory. We built this event purpose built on the top brands that are members we know are looking for as they go into the shopping season. And so this is an exclusive 48 hours for our prime members to

AJ's First Brushes With Reporter John Miller
"Thing, guys. If I sound really high on John Miller, it's for good reason. And I want to tell you a story about my, you know, brushing paths with him. Crossing paths with him, brushing shoulders with him, I always looked up to John Miller because of what a Ruth ruthless reporter he was. He was just fearless. And back in the day, as I was still writing sports, but I began to dabble in gossip. I was spending one day a week at with Linda Stacey, the editor of the gossip column at New York newsday called hot copy, actually that was called inside New York. It became high copy when I got there, but it was inside New York. And I used to go every Friday, I'd work at New York newsday in Manhattan, every Friday. And then I'd work, you know, when work was through what I'd stick around and in the city all night and hit the clubs at the restaurant, just get to know the lay of the land and the people who run the nightlife. I'll never forget those experiences. They were tremendous. I learned everything. I met people who got me indoors. I could never have gotten in before. I ended up meeting women that I dated that became great sources and dead different lines of work. I just threw myself out there. And it was really, it was really pertinent to my career going forward. So Miller was a guy I ran into quite a bit. He was already marked to be a star when he was a terrific reporter for WNBC. And later at television, ABC and CBS, and a few years earlier, I remember being mesmerized because I'd watch Miller continually ambush the mafia Don John Gotti. He would ambush him with a camera crew while Ghani was walking along the street with a few of his men, was usually a Little Italy down on mulberry street, where John Gotti had his ravenite social club, and in order to avoid being bumped, Gotti and his underboss, Sammy the bull gravano, and other people would walk around the block, put their hands covering their mouths just like you saw in the movie Goodfellas. I actually casino. And they would discuss business.

He'll have all kinds of benefits from the great satan here He's complaining about the free food. He's getting it well first of all this again when we mentioned this early. Maybe weren't listening there. Ahmad is ten million jobs out there. A bitchy in el paso right now is a thousand fast food places with help wanted signs and you know well some of them. Do they eat all. You want if you work. The violates looking at this. He's like with food like this. I i wish. I just stayed behind captured by the taliban shot he writes. Oh he's a blogger and writer. He says he said he had a pretty good job back. In kabul i had a decent life. I had a family. I was forced to flee. He said he just wanted to show what refugee like was like. I hope you joy i mean. It's one one tweet after another conham ingrate complaining about this. I don't know you wanna complain about it go ahead. It's the fact that he's lying about it but he's not showing you all the food at socks. Yes shows the bread. The bread is over here. and we'll container. Which probably would be what vegetables potatoes or something is empty. Yes so eight some of the meal and then he tweeted out some of an pretended refugee life. I mean come on. You were saved from from probably slavery in kabul city decent life but flown here by the way that's going to be the next bite. Administrations is going to be one scandal after another. We're going to find out that they just the i mean we left some translators behind. Obviously we left some americans behind. Some of them are getting on airplanes trying to get out but let them out. You know what they call that they call that a hostage is going to be hostages. And we're gonna find out of the hundred twenty thousand people. We flew out in the came to america. There's going to be you know child brides. There's going to be a terrorists. People on terrorist watch lists and as isis affiliates. I mean we. We didn't vet. These people were just poured and stuffed them on c. Seventeen to america. That's it that the and again they'll be the media will cover it up but they'll be guys sixty year old guys with eleven year old wives or three wives six wives or they'll be honor killings because some afghan woman came here and suddenly showed her face. There'll be a lot of that stuff coming down the it's it's inevitable. I mean you don't think one hundred twenty thousand people even if you did some bad apples. Of course it's going to be some bad apples. But that will that. That's our latest liar. How about that lineup of liars. We had today the wrong digging rolling stone liars. We had the media lying about Abidin or covering up biden's conversation with afghan president. We had joe biden saying he was at the tree life synagogue When he wasn't he lied. We have tom brady line about getting vaccinated or or a coach. Did.

"Not really not a mention of the six airplane being held on the ground if this obviously if this was donald trump is president. It would be front page news it would be the lead for cnn nbc abc. It is amazing. How how how corrupt they are amazing. How corrupt the media is this is by any definition a story. I don't know how big a story i don't know how many americans i don't know what what's gonna happen. Apparently being held on the ground in northern afghanistan not being allowed to leave right by the taliban. That's kind of a big deal. It's kind of a big deal. You know what else you don't see you know what else she didn't see anywhere it didn't i say the meat we talked about this last week. I would say it's kind of a big deal. The president joe biden Had a conversation with the former president of afghanistan. Ghani that snake who took off with one hundred sixty million. I forget where. I don't even remember where he is or central. America is he. He's he's he went to columbia. Not i don't know where when his sons went to columbia anyway. He's he's he's a snake. He took the money and ran but they had that conversation. Not so long ago. With joe biden aspartame to lie and only joe biden. Ask him to lie. Khurana joe biden. Light himself joe biden. Looked in the cameras told america that the afghan military was going to hold up and the afghan afghan government was going to be in control after we left now that obviously you know most of us had our doubts but it turns out was a flat out lie and they costly one. I think it cost thirteen service. People their lives gives me more than that. I mean it's a lot of civilians their lives to but think of this think of this. He tells he asks ghani to lie to say he said perceptions important We need we need the right perception. We need people to think that you're you're good to go. You're going to hold up the military's gonna hold up and then on july eighth biden Told del everyone the military was ready. And they were gonna they were gonna reenter thousand and seventy five thousand. Well armed well You know he lied to everybody to the world to the world and he has to lie. I dare you to find that story like on the front page of any news. I was probably in the new york post. But i believe all the usual suspects. Abc nbc cbs cnn new. They just ignored it. That is amazing. They spent weeks weeks talking about Donald trump's phone call to ukraine when he asked them to look into the corrupt biden family. A phone call to ukraine and it was like ridiculous. They impeached him for it. They wrote a thousand stories. You know talk shows and talking heads talking about how a inappropriate that was. You actually have a president asking another leader to lie to lie to cut to cover up the truth. Here's the exact quote to there is a need whether it is true or not to project. A different picture is what biden told him that. Not that's by definition asking him to live guys crazy that's by definition asking ghani to lie and what it's that's some harmless lie and we'll get to the you get to the harmless lie by comparison at least but that is amazing. How was it not like the big story in the frigging world when you have a president who is lying. Everybody lying to the public lying to the american people liked the world and asking our ally our little this this regime that lasted. What was it. Eleven days after we announced. We're leaving essentially. It was really like a weekend where they crumbled. They fell collapsed and he took off with a bunch of money on. I don't even know who went with him but he took off. And and the you know. The country fell into the hands of the taliban in a couple of days. It's one thing to have like a commentary a opinion show where you say. I don't think it was a big deal. Whatever you'll you cover up for the guy it's it's you know god people do it on both sides. You know sean hannity. He would defend trump. No matter what right. Yeah and and. I'm sure all the usual chris hayes landlords so donald will defend biden. No matter what but to ignore that to ignore it. An act like it didn't happen. That is not media bias that corruption that has immorality. They the the idea that he's your guy you know he's my guy so i'm gonna pretend happen but if you're a reader of the new york times or boston globe i don't think there's too many of those left but don't you demand better. Don't you expect more you if you want to do a straight news story and just have that quote. You just read in quotes. And here's what happened and you know you decide whether you think it's appropriate or not. That's one thing but to just ignore it and say ooh hopefully it'll just go away and our guy won't it won't embarrass our guy well. It won't hurt our side. That's just so free. I mean a a topic. We do every day here and tweet about it all the time but these are just two. This is a weekend two examples. And i haven't even got to the to the the meaningless lie yet. Which makes a t tell me this. Which do you find. More troubling when the president of the united states lies about something like this about the readiness the preparedness of the afghan government afghan military as we try to get out as we put our marines in harm's way as we get thirteen of our of our heroic warriors killed for no damn reason. Is that more disturbing. It's disturbing or the fact that president meets with some rabbis. It says oh yeah. I remember visiting the tree life. Synagogue tree of life. God if you don't remember was the site of mass shooting. I believe eleven people were slaughtered. Eleven jewish antisemitic A hate crime. I guess you'd obviously hate crime. Berta eleven people was the two thousand eighteen in pennsylvania so biden talking to rabbis just for no reason. No good reason just lies and said yeah. I went visited the tree of life synagogue and his own white house. Pr team had to issue a. I don't know what you call now correction. If you're rolling stone it's called an update. They do an update and they say actually. He didn't go there so he says he does. Something that is so easy to verify so easy to check. Does that kind of liar bother you. More than the guy who tells the big lag. I mean to me the big lie given the consequences. I agree but the big lie. He was trying to accomplish something you know. He was trying to convince people that the afghan it was a good time to leave. Yes he wanted the photo op for september eleventh right so he said it was a strategy a strategy. We're gonna lie about this and we're going to convince people that it is a good a pro an appropriate time to get out of afghanistan so to me there's a purpose to that light doesn't obviously make it right. It's it's it's very disturbing but when you have somebody who so casually and comfortably lies like to take advantage of a situation. I guess that i visited the synagogue. When immediately the people at the synagogue say no and the people at the white house say well. I guess this really no way to spin this. So we'll just say it's a holiday weekend labor day weekend..

"How Tony Tony be Toni Bou Belinsky. And amazing stuff, and a lot of it. There was stuff about Ukraine. Those stuff about China and interesting. Remember President Trump was impeached because he had a phone conversation with the president of Ukraine. Well, the president of Ukraine was in the Oval Office yesterday meeting with lunch bucket. Joe Biden and, um and you know that that, uh, barista, the Ukrainian gas and oil company paid Hunter Biden and his buddy, his business associate about a million dollars a year for how long for how long? About a million dollars here $83,333 a month. And you do that times, 12. You get almost a million dollars here and Hunter Biden was getting this million dollars years stuff. And then Joe Biden, you know that barista was under investigation by the chief prosecutor in Ukraine, and Joe Biden went and threatened them when he was vice president and said, if you don't fire the prosecutor that's investigating corruption. Where my the company where my son is being paid a million dollars here, then you're not going to get a billion dollars in U. S aid. And, uh and us guaranteed Jari era And so they fired. The prosecutor and the news media in America didn't see that as a news story at all. But when President Trump raised an eyebrow and ask questions about it, that's when President Trump had to be impeached. Right And that's when the news media thought there was a big news story there because that's our news media. That's that's what they do. That's what we're stuck with. We don't really have a legitimate news media. Elite. Really, We don't have a legitimate news media in the United States America. It's tragic. Also, when it comes to Joe Biden talked about it a bit yesterday. The phone call that Joe Biden had with the now former Then our erstwhile president of Afghanistan who fled, apparently reportedly with 169 million of hard dollars American taxpayer dollars. President Ghani Joe Biden had a discussion with him. And on the telephone, and just like the President Trump discussion with the Ukrainian president on the telephone, except Joe Biden told president Gunny that we were going to have to lie to the American people. We're going to have to lie a lot to the American people, and we're going to have to create a perception and then general thoroughly modern Millie jumped into the action also. And he also was in on the scheme. And that's what it is a scheme to deceive the American people by making false claims about the state of the Afghan military, and we have a transcript of the of the conversation and the American News Media just has no interest in this at all, because they're really not a legitimate fourth estate. They're not legitimate journalists today. Are they No, they're not. And I'll get into that today because their updates on that too. Um mm. Also a secret White House official. Finally an anonymous White House official leaking to somebody in the news media. The New York Post has the story. White House official literally horrified. About Americans left behind in Afghanistan, and that's um, an interesting story all by itself. I have that for you today. Also the Rasmus in polling people with a new poll out on lunch bucket Joe's performance and that's what it is, is a performance 52% of us more than half of us. Believe that Joe Biden should resign over the Afghanistan withdrawal. Nobody in the news media is in that 52%. Interestingly enough, not a cigarette resigned now 52% want Biden out. But this is a funny part of it, too, but fear that Harris would be worse, and that's because at least 52% of the American people. Have a lot of common sense and understand what's going on. And people. It's not 52% that think that Harris would be worse but a significant percentage and I'll get into those poll numbers as well. Remarkable stuff. They some in the media, but really only conservative media have any interest in the truth. And, you know, it's funny. Conservative media really doesn't toe the Republican Party line. Because the Republican Party line is difficult to toe great deal at the time, because their elected officials, their politicians, and and and of course, because we've got turtle Boy you know Mitch McConnell Turtle boy, and we've got, uh, Leo Gorski over there in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, who can't string a sentence together to save his life and because of this, and that, you know Republicans not getting the job done. Mitch McConnell shoots down question of Biden being impeached. There is talk of Biden being impeached over this conversation with former Afghan President Ghani because he's scheming with Connie. To deceive the American people about Afghanistan, which he then proceeded to do about how you know 300 strong, 300,000 strong Afghan army was going to stand up to the Taliban and nothing to worry about. It's going to take weeks. It's going to take months that it took hours and Tony Blinken he went to Yale. Telling us it's not like it's going to happen over a weekend from Friday to Monday, and then it happened over the weekend from Friday to Monday. I think he said that on Friday, right and then it happened Friday to Monday is there was Blinken right? Blinken stinking and not Now, McConnell and so McConnell was asked a question yesterday about impeaching Biden over this phone call, where he's scheming to lie to the American people. Just about war and peace, and, um, withdrawing from Afghanistan. Nothing important early, and McConnell mumbled. Nobody could really hear him. But later on, we found out from a sign language interpreter is something that That the idea of impeaching and I was trading messages on this subject with my friend Marty yesterday afternoon, and I said, Well, you know, Listen, the Democrats Pelosi control the House representatives will never get past Pelosi in the house and extremely corrupt woman. A dishonest and corrupt woman doesn't believe in integrity or the Constitution or the rule of law, for that matter. Jess Politics, just pure politics. And of course, we've got the lizard over in the Senate. Chuck Schumer and McConnell said as much yesterday says,.

"But neither biden nor ashraf ghani appeared aware of or prepared for the immediate danger of the entire country falling to insurgents a transcript reviewed by reuters shows. So they say that in the lead paragraph and then they say later in the article they quote. Ghani is saying this. We are facing a full scale invasion composed of taliban full pakistani planning and logistical support in at least ten to fifteen thousand international. Terrorists predominantly pakistanis thrown into this ghani said afghan government officials in us experts have consistently pointed to pakistani support for the taliban as key to the group's resurgence of course the pakistani embassy in washington denied those allegations. But it sounds like ghani knew. Exactly what the hell was going on. I mean it didn't catch him. By surprise i mean it. It's it's just a it's weird to say that in an article and then actually have the proof in the article that that's not the case But that's that's reuters. You would expect better from that when you folks but then in much of the call biden focused on what he called the afghanistan governments perception problem. Basically he's saying. It's a pure problem. And i need not tell you. The perception around the world in parts of afghanistan. I believe is that things are not going well. In terms of the fight against the taliban biden said and there is a need whether it is true or not a need to protect project a different picture and he went on to say that. I'm not a military guy so i'm not telling you that a plan should precisely what it should look like. You're going to get not only more help at. You're going to get a perception that is going to change. Biden said ghani for his part assured biden that your assurance of support goes a very long way to enable us to really mobilize us in earnest so because of that trump dohar peace agreement surrender document. The afghanistanis needed to hear assurances of support. They knew biden wanted to honor the agreement and this was a cry for help. They needed to hear that. The united states was still there. That's what he was saying. Your assurance of support goes a very long way to enable us to really mobilize us an earnest. But by then folks by then and this is again july. twenty third of twenty-one. The damage was done by trump's dohar. Surrender agreement where. He basically forced the afghanistan's to release five thousand of their enemies and saying that he was going to have the us l. By may i. I mean the damage had already been been done and then. Furthermore joe biden closed bagaram airfield on july six. And then this call with afghanistani's president ghani on july twenty third where he says basically that the country's being overrun by ten to fifteen thousand terrorists and to joe biden's credit folks. He actually says that we will continue to provide closer support in this article. He said this. We'll continue to provide closer support if we know what the plan is. And i think that joe biden meant what he said there but the damage had already been done by donald. Trump's dohar surrender back on february. Twenty ninth of twenty twenty. I mean even on july twenty third of twenty one. It was already too late. The afghanis knew it was too late. They knew that they were going to crumble. By then i think. Joe biden knew it. I mean except he was very brilliant about the fact that you know you guys got three hundred thousand troops but they had already crumbled. The damage had been done by donald trump by that point. Trumpet surrendered back on february. Twenty-ninth that's when we lost afghanistan. Yes as i've said before the withdrawal i think could have been more masterful to say the least but nonetheless it didn't stand a chance. Nothing stood a chance after donald. Trump's dohar surrender back on february. Twenty ninth of twenty twenty. Nothing stood a chance. Once that agreement was put into place the afghan military crumbled and even if we had decided to come back in with with tons of men in additional casualties that that would also mean that the battle was lost. Donald trump lost afghanistan..

"People are vaccinated are like he went off the rails But let's listen to rogan. Tell us all the stuff he's taken to Get better to combat the covert. Hello friends so. I got back from the road saturday night. Feeling very weary. I had a headache. And i just felt just run down and just to be cautious. I separated from my family. Slept in a different part of the house and throughout the night. I got fevers sweats. And i i knew what was going on so i got up in the morning. Got tested and turns out. Got cove vid so we immediately through the kitchen sink. All kinds of meds monoclonal antibodies Ivermectin z pack Prednisone everything And i also got an any d- drip and a vitamin drip. And i did that three days in a row and so here. We are on wednesday. And i feel great. I really only had one bad day. Sunday sucked but monday was better. Tuesday fell better than monday. And today i feel good. I actually feel pretty fucking good. That's the good news. The bad news is we have to move friday. The friday show in nashville. So there you go so he is all better at. How do you do that. How do you get all that stuff. Twelve he's i know he's got a lot of company to so that any drip. I'm sure i've heard talk about that before. I think that's anti-aging quote me. If i'm wrong the other other ones a vitamin drip. So i'm sure he does. You know pumps vitamin d vitamin c. When i thought perhaps when i was sick and we did the remote shows last week. That's what i did. I put myself vitamin c and vitamin d. Vitamin d is. There's some research covert so. Why didn't i know but that's i. I took that trajectory. He has a doctor rhonda patrick on his show a lot. And she is a big proponent. So someone wants to do that. It's a lot of work. Yeah but i mean he kicked it in three. It's worth it. I guess but you can't do it if you don't have the means you'll have the the connections but good luck to him. I'm glad he's better. It looks a little little. Ragged fifty four is not shaving. "And you're talking about hurtful language or are you talking about layabouts. Who don't pay their rent. You're supporting them. I mean i it must take all. They have not to come out in favor of abortion in the third trimester because they're just radicals that's what they are. They're not public. Health officials there radicals and they are hoping. Also i'm telling you right now. She was asked about rogan. When rogan said twenty one year old healthy 21-year-olds don't need the vaccine. They're hoping that this will be the rare case. Were someone who's not elderly. not obese. Takes a wrong turn. But even if he dies doesn't that just proved point that like joe rogan made his choice. We all have choices. He chose to knock vaccinated pandemic and he died from a virus. Like that's literally the whole point. Is you have a right to take a risk now. Well i think you the people who take risks. Turtle don't think they're going to die. You know this. This radio host phil valentine. There's some liberals were dancing on his grave. He's sixty one years old. I don't think he was obese. But he was probably not great shape and he was an anti vaccine. Rogan's on an anti faxer. We never has been. I'm not a you are. But i'm not anti vaccine. I don't think twenty year old. I certainly don't think twelve year olds. She could vaccine. Does that make you an antibac- cer- again it's like if they had a vaccination against t- to cure dementia right. It'd be wonderful it'd be. It would be great the development of great breakthrough. Would you ask. In a fifteen year olds take it if they had a vaccination against dementia. There are certain things that don't affect children one of them being covered. You know so. Why are you forcing this injection on children. It's and i can't imagine being in your position turtle boy where they're going to get to six year olds you know. They're going to get around six year olds and he'd say yes your year old must be vaccinated and you will fight them and you will resist. But they're going to their goal. They flat out says to make life difficult for the unvaccinated. I don't like the conspiracy stuff either. But don't you have to ask the question that a lot of public funds are going to pay for these vaccinations. So can you not see. The incentive is to try to get as many people take it as possible was the number in the number of pfizer New all new billionaires like twelve guys became billionaires during the pandemic but during the their the value. Yuks you have to have last question right. Where what's the incentive here. No doubt now. You're talking my language following. Well you know what it is created. It is fertile grounds for creating for growing young skeptics. If not conspiracy theorists yes when you say a dozen guys in a billionaires because they have not only Developed a sold as this vaccine forced it on people and and shamed you if you don't do it we don't do. We know if rogan has been vaccine so is talking yesterday on just on twitter that he was vaccinated. But i didn't. I wasn't able to confirm that before we went live today. So that's something. I'm definitely gonna look into today. I can't tell when i see him in. Pictures is he just jacked or z. A little chunky. He's got a lotta muscle this. He's like one of those people that exercise. He's got a lot of free time so you can. Exercise lowers these fitness junkies. One of those legitimate martial artist. Ju jitsu short. but it's like The the fox Of nfl guy jay glazer and he always talks about ma ma and training and everything. And i look at him and he just looks like a little chunky guy to me. I know he probably trains hard. But he's not exactly a lean not exactly lean a lot of muscle i mean. He runs in slogan rogan national champ in in mixed martial arts. So i'm going to guess you gotta be in pretty good shape to do that. And i was talking to Mike clark lenny. Lenny was on rogan. When logan was still in. La and they were getting ready to record. I heard it. It was a great show. It was all down memory lane of a boston comedy. Because rogan came up. And my clark owns giggles and he looks and he handles a lot of comedians and get some jobs and And rogan was a young comedian which is hard to believe that he was one of these young comedians planned. Giggles and nick's comedy stop in boston. I don't even think he's funny on his show. I mean he's good. He's good interviewer and he's smart. But i was surprise when about a year ago. Maybe you're could have been year and a half ago. I think it was on Net flicks. i don't know what it was. But he had to stand up special. Yeah and it was good. I mean he was funniest. Halley was he was a little dangerous little edgy and he was good at but that doesn't come through necessarily on his show. I think it's i think it's a different format. I mean when he's got comedians on hill. They'll they'll batra back and forth and it's a little bit funnier. No his standup. I think he's probably a better writer. A comedy writer than he is. I mean pro. I liked the show. Sometimes i don't get the whole like i don't understand why it's so popular all he does. He's not that interesting himself. He just invites interesting on his show is just like oh that's interesting. And what's interesting. Is he says anything remotely. I don't say controversial just opinionated. It goes viral like he talks about cancer culture and so he canceled cultures out of control. Cancer sucks he says the same thing we say or millions of other say and boom it gets it gets a video clip get set out and it's everywhere and it's like. Oh joe. rogan comes out and gets canceled culture. He probably audience in the country though bigger than tuck because they always influential any noise influential with not just conservatives but also some libertarians but And i'm sure many people on the left also listened to him and that's why they're threatened by people like him is because he has such a big reach and they're like okay you know tucker carlson's only gonna talk the right wingers or is this guy might influence some people on our team. If he says. I'm crazy we need to shut that down. I think he's at bernie on right sitting at bernie on roy like some really really like some. I'm going door stem. He endorsed doors which was stupid because he doesn't. There's no substance to. We talked about it at the time. He just said i really like. He's a good guy like he doesn't smartest people think he just says. you know. i was smoking peyote last night. And i really like bernie's ideas. He's really cool. Find rogan that interesting. It's just the the people that he has shower at your. He can't make the case. He endorsed burning but he couldn't support it with any real substance. But that's okay. "William burns a veteran diplomat to kabul to meet secretly with taliban leader abdul ghani bara dr and discussed the us evacuation efforts and biden's intention to prevent terror cells from operating in afghanistan after the us leaves according to a us official familiar with the meeting. The meeting was first reported by the washington post while thousands of americans have already left the country. The administration hasn't specified the number that still remain and with biden saying he will only extend the august thirty first deadline for a full withdrawal if the evacuation is not complete. They now have just seven days to get the rest of the americans out of afghanistan. It's a major test for an administration still reeling from the talibans. Speedy takeover and the stakes are enormous. Biden's ham fisted handling of the withdrawal has already undermined. Us credibility with allies now. Thousands of american lives could hang in the balance and the success or failure and getting them out will shape how biden's presidency is remembered the key right now for president biden in order to get beyond the chaos of the withdrawal decision is to be able to complete the evacuation of all of the us citizens and afghans that we promised to evacuate says leon panetta who served as secretary of defense and cia director under president barack obama. If we fail in that commitment. I think it will further undercut our credibility. The administration has been working overtime to ensure it doesn't since august fourteenth. Seventy thousand people have been evacuated from afghanistan. Biden said on tuesday. The pentagon told reporters that as of august twenty third. Four thousand american passport-holders have been evacuated. The administration has also asked six airlines to supply eighteen aircraft for additional assistance. The goal biden said on august twentieth is to ensure any american. Who wants to get home will get home. But there are complex challenges to fulfilling that objective the biden administration doesn't know how many americans are currently left in afghanistan wanting to be evacuated. Americans are asked to voluntarily register their contacts and whereabouts with the us embassy when they arrive in afghanistan but many don't addition there's no requirement that americans notified the embassy when they depart the country leaving the state department's database clogged with contacts for americans who may have already gotten out. "You can keep your mind off the mess and watch the movie how you can help people in afghanistan by eh louise berry after twenty years of us military presence in afghanistan. The taliban took control of kabul on sunday amid the chaotic evacuation of the afghan national government and western diplomats distressing footage at kabul airport eerily similar to scenes from the us evacuation of saigon showed afghans attempting to flee on departing us jets. While diplomats abandoned the american embassy critics say the unfolding humanitarian disaster is anything but the secure and orderly evacuation promised by president joe biden who said on july eighth. There was little chance of a taliban. Takeover president ashraf ghani fled the country on sunday and the taliban assumed power soon after afghan civilians fear a return to the brutal taliban regime of nineteen ninety six through two thousand one a period where religious and ethnic minorities were persecuted and stonings and public executions were commonplace. Women were systematically victimized under the taliban dependent on male chaperones to leave their homes and unable to access education amid the chaos of the last few days thousands of afghans have fled the country many who were promised refuge abroad or were awaiting visa decisions are stuck in the country as all commercial commercial. "Making sure that they didn't get into the hands of the taliban women. The taliban has been taking some american weapons for years. So maybe they figured that was more of the same. But you're asking a really great question here which is you know. Why didn't he take steps to sort of make the pull out. Not as terrible as it became. You know. I think on one hand you know you saw the president trying to frankly paint a very rosy picture and offer an assessment about the likelihood that the afghan forces would stand up. That was very much not in keeping with the advice. He seems to have been getting at least from his intelligence agencies so when the president does that is he putting spin on things is he not understanding what he's hearing is he misleading the public. Because he doesn't want to you know kind of own the disaster or make it seem as dire. I dunno. i suspect we'll we'll find that out so now that the us is essentially going to be dealing with an afghanistan that is run by the taliban. How does that change our national security risks. As a country i think at arguably increases them significantly. I mean we are. The united states is putting a big bet on the taliban acting as i guess what we would call in relative terms a responsible actor which is to say not allowing afghanistan to become a safe haven for terrorist groups the way it was before the september eleventh attacks whether they will make good on that commitment remains be seen and i think that's really the big one big question we don't have a force nef ghanistan right now. We don't have an embassy in afghanistan right now which means we're not we don't have. Cia personnel on the ground running spies running agents. We're gonna have a really hard time collecting intelligence from within the country. We're going to have to rely on satellite imagery on communications intercepts. We're going to try and do this. Counter terrorism mission from afar. That's gonna be really hard so really the future of afghanistan and our security there. An intentional thrust us really rests with. I think what the taliban decides to do and how aggressive the united states is going to be encountering any threats like if we see terrorist camps rebuilding portions of afghanistan. Do we go in and take them out. We bomb them. Do we send in special operations forces to kind of get in and get out. I think you could expect that the administration would do that. And they're betting that the taliban knows they would and will potentially take steps to make sure that those terrorist groups don't set up base there but we're gonna have to see what happens. I also wanna talk a little bit more about the afghan president ashraf ghani who essentially fled the country over the weekend. Even hearing president biden. Talk about president ghani's departure. I feel like you could sense some animosity there or frustration or disappointment that this president did not stay in place to try to lead his country. And in fact that was part of biden's argument for you know. Look if the afghans are not going to do the work to try to keep their country intact like why are we gonna stay there but i wonder like what role does ghani playing this and also we're is he like. What do we know about the circumstances under which he fled and why he is not in the country. I'm not sure where he is right now. I believe i've seen reports that he's in a neighboring country Yeah the anger from president. Biden was palpable against you know ghani and by extension the political leadership of kenniston who he sees as essentially abandoning the country afghanistan political leaders gave up and fled the country. The afghan military collapsed sometime without trying to fight again. This is in the category of things that we really need to know more about. But i find it very telling that he left as quickly as he did. I mean it. Almost felts negotiated in a way. I'm not saying that it was but we've seen reports. I should say provincial. Officials striking deals with the taliban in advance them coming into their cities and basically just handing over the keys. This was really a question to for the white house. I mean the you know the leader to leader communication. Did we not understand that he was going to pack up and go or did we know if we had a sense that he was going to leave this quickly. That might have been a tell for us because once the president of afghanistan left. I mean that was the signal that effectively the the game was over that the taliban was going to face no real resistance and when they came into kabul. But i should say to. You know the this kind of dim view that president biden and others have of ashraf. Ghani i mean this really goes. I think for a lot of the political class afghanistan over the years. I mean you're talking about a government where corruption has been endemic. And i think you know. A generation of us officials have just been very clear light and skeptical about their ability to to maintain a country absent us presidents and assistance. So in that sense. I don't know that anybody had a lot of hopes that ghani was going to try. And you know hold down the ford fight to the bitter end. But what i also find. You know so remarkable about this moment is that it's almost like it's it's so hard for us as americans to believe that. An american president would knowingly walk away from a country understanding that it was just going to descend indicate loss and be overtaken by militant fundamentalists. But that's what happened. I mean he knew that this would occur. Think it's hard for a lot of americans to swallow this right now. The idea that knowing how likely it was that things would go very badly that he still made the decision to go. But he's been very frank about that in his comments and it's just it's it's so stunning for me to see. I think because it's so at odds with what three successive american presidents have told us there which is that you know. There were hopeful about the mission. You know we're trying to build stability. We're trying to get the government to a place where it can stand on its own. I mean what we're finding now. Is that free years. People have privately understood that that was not likely to be the case. And you know it's striking to hear an american president basically say you know. Come on quick hitting yourself like we're going and he is stuck by.
