The Death of Europe, by Way of Immigration

"All righty, everybody, Dennis prager here. And I'm speaking with a major European thinker Britt, Doug miss Murray, his book, a heaven in front of me. I'm reading it, is that important? The strange death of Europe immigration identity Islam. So here's let me because I so respect. I want to bounce my theories off you, and my my listeners are probably tired of hearing me say this, but I tell most guests to my show. I have no issue with your differing with me. Do not feel sort of you have to be pulled. You have to be polite but don't worry. You don't have to be the end of that. You're right. I'm not worried about that. Okay. So I believe Europe has been dying since the end of World War I. World War I knocked out national identity and knocked out religious identity from the Europeans and there is nothing left after that. Because what they believed in led to carnage. That's what they believe and to a certain extent it was true. So how do you react to that? No, I think there's something in this. I say repeatedly in my book that we got to recognize that a lot of the troubles we have have foundations that are totally rational. It's reasonable for Europeans to fear themselves in some countries. It's reasonable for Germany to be concerned and for German people to be concerned about them if they feel kind of expansionist this week. Totally understandable. And at the same time, you have to work out what is an appropriate response to your history. What is a humble and appropriate response to your history and what turns into being a suicidal response to your history? And I'm all for appropriate humility in the face of mistakes from our past, just as everybody else should be not to learn from the past would be a form of insanity, but that doesn't mean, particularly when you have millions of people who feel no such uncertainty about their past or no humility about their history.

"Show and we're talking about how the pilgrims came to be the pilgrims, the book is titled the treacherous world of the 16th century and how the pilgrims escaped it, the prequel to America's freedom of the author, William Federer on the line. Bill, you were talking about really, it's just amazing to me. If you don't mind backtracking a little bit, because there's so many things unfolding at the same time. So let me put the needle back on the record. Right. Well, the idea is that Muslims are invading Europe surrounding Vienna, 1529. The reformation started in 1517 and now we got this internal and external disruption of Europe. The older Roman Emperor, Charles V of Spain, he has the biggest empire on Planet Earth. I mean, the Philippines are named after his son, king Philip of Spain. And he has all the new world. He's taken the gold from the new world to fit on his navy to keep the Muslims from taking over the Mediterranean. Anyway, he's faced with his double dilemma, reformation out inside and based on the outside. He actually strikes a deal with the protestants. It's called a piece of Augsburg of 1555. I speak a little German and that's a fun number. It's own 1400 proven folks. 55. That's the first treaty ever to recognize protestants and in this treaty is a little Latin phrase that made a big difference. It's cool ratio to religio, which means whose is The Rain? Is a religion? So in other words, look Protestant king, believe it ever you want in your kingdom. Let's just work together against these Muslims who are invading Europe because they sort of want to kill us all. Well, this started a domino effect in the next century where different kings fully different things. And Sweden and Germany were Lutheran Switzerland Calvin and Scotland Presbyterian England was Anglican Holland Dutch reform. And of course, Italy, Spain, France, Austria, remained

You had to be aware that there's something funny about the idea that you've written a book called fascism, the career of a concept followed by anti fascism, the course of a crusade. Tell us about that. Well, you know, I became interested in the subject of fascism before I was confronted by the problem of woke of the woke left, which is what we're dealing with right now. Much of my earlier scholarship, you know, dealt with political movements and movements of the right, as well as movements to the left. And I wrote a biography of Carl Schmidt, a German political theorist who influenced into war fascism. So sort of natural that at some point I wrote a book on fascism as well. And in studying the book on fascism, I was informed by a person who has become sort of my mentor Stanley Payne who's probably the outstanding scholar on the subject of fascism that the best part of the book was my treatment of anti fascism. So I was urged by Stanley and then by Amy ferranto, who was my editor at Cornell University in northern Illinois university presses. They're now merged that I should write a book on anti fascism, which I did. "Is always. Especially exciting when I have on Doug Giles, GI LES, he's a maniac, I consider that a compliment, a high compliment, my friend, Doug Giles, welcome. Eric how are you doing big dog? You are you're too much, and I say that in the good sense, meaning exactly the right amount. Behind you, I see a mounted Lion, which I believe you sent into glory with your own gun. Is that what happened? Yeah, I was fortunate to hunt this line back in 2015 right before doctor Palmer shot Cecil the lion and thank God, man, that I got it before the importation ban on lions from Africa. So this thing came to kill me. I know some of my enemies wish that it would have and we shot him nearly a point blank range with an old German double rifle in Eric. I'm telling you what that leaves memory burn. And when David said he killed a lion with his bare hands, I'm kind of thinking, you know what? I might call stair core Tori as the Latin would say, or as the Greeks, you know, hailing from your heritage. They might call that scuba lawn because I can't imagine trying to kill one of these big dog with bare hands. You have to have some kooky anointing of the Holy Spirit. I always assumed when David said that, that he was talking about with a sling. I just assumed that. It doesn't matter. Lions are scary and the line behind you. Now, when you say came to kill you, I mean, you were hunting lions. Is that correct? I mean, you weren't just like sleeping and stepping back in your own business and it came to kill you. And it was self defense, but close enough. Yeah, no, we were stalking him. We found a kudu that he had killed about three 30 in the morning. And you wanted to revenge because a friend of yours knew that kudu has a child? Exactly. His name was Bert, I think. And so we had to take revenge on him, but anyway, we found him about after tracking four or 5 miles, and he was tired of our stuff. And so he decided to see what these skinny white boys from America had to offer. And it was an incredible altercation. We got it on video. The Paradigm Shift From Science to Religion

"Stephen, you believe, and I also believe that we're at a we can call it a tipping point a paradigm shifting inflection point in western culture where over the decades, the arguments for God have become so strong that with books like yours and others, there's a shift going on. Now, you're really, you're in a world where you talk to actual scientists, do you find that scientists are out there are quietly saying yes, this seems clear, the arguments in your book return of the God hypothesis are compelling. What do you, what do you hear out there in that world? Yeah, I do think there's a shift going on. I was very pleasantly surprised that some of the endorsements that came back from for the book from scientists to whom the publisher had sent it. And very prominent people and Nobel laureate, you mentioned professor Jim tour at rice university. It was one of the top organic chemists in the world and nano and nanotechnology specialist. We've had them. Scientists recently who's come to affiliate with our work at discovery Institutes with top paleontologists in the world who sometime between 2009 and 2016 had a big rethink of the materialistic Darwinian perspective that he had long held and embrace the theory of intelligent design and eventually publicly announced that he had become a theist and indeed even a Christian and be Gunther Beckley a great German paleontologist. Where is he in Germany? He was at the Stuttgart museum of natural history, the largest Natural History Museum of curator there. It was made somewhat unwelcome after he announced that he supported intelligent design. Well, does this get to the idea though that you still have it's just fascinating to me that there are people that say, no, no, no, you can't talk about that. I just find this fascinating because look, we saw this in Galileo's day, right? Galileo says, hey, I've got some evidence here. He was a Christian. Anybody who wants to talk about that in my book, he was a profound Christian. And he says, look, look at the telescope here, the evidence, and they said then, no, no, no, we can't talk about that. That's unseemly, that's preposterous. It's offensive, it's blasphemous. The same thing is happening today. A guy like gunter Beckley tremendous credentials, tremendous credibility in that world. The moment he seems to side with you or people who are theists, suddenly the German scientific world says we don't like you anymore. And also Wikipedia. He was a great paleontologist until he announced this, and then his page was erased. But, you know, I'm really undeterred by that because this thing is catching on worldwide. And it's a bit immodest but for people who wonder, go to my web page, look at the book endorsement. It's amazing the breadth of scientific the breadth of the scientific opinions that have been lodged in favor of this idea that science is pointing

Our Faith Touches Everything

"The Germans bought into this stupid idea. They thought, hey, we're German, which means we're Lutheran, which means Luther invented Christianity as far as we're concerned. He invented this idea of grace, grace means I don't have to do anything, and that's that. And of course, Bonham wrote about cheap grace and the idea that if you don't really understand grace, you treat it like nothing. You know, you treat what God has done for you like nothing, which means you don't get it, which means you don't believe which means forget about grace. There's no grace because you have an appropriate degree. I really believe for other reasons the church in America today has done the same thing. I think there are different reasons, but there are tons of people who've excoriated people like me and Frank and said, you've made an idol of politics. You've made an idol of Donald Trump. You know, ridiculous things. And the point is no, we just believe that our faith touches everything. It's not some little parochial religious thing that stays in the corner, like the official church is doing China. It's something that has to come out of the church and live everywhere. We have a free exercise of religion, freedom to do that. So if you keep it in this little religious theological corner, then it's phony. It's abbreviated faith. If you don't live it out in the school, on the workplace, on the radio, on the whatever it is, if you don't do that, you don't really believe it. Your phony. So when people talk about, I just want to preach the gospel. I don't want to be I don't want to be political. We think that's just stupid. That makes no sense. Because if you're a Jew in a boxcar going to Treblinka or Auschwitz, you think, you know, I would love it if there was some Christians out there on the other side of this boxcar who believed what they said and would get political and stand up against the system that is sending me my family to death. That means getting political.

Your Theology Is Ultimately Everything

"Your theology is ultimately everything. But even the word theology is just another word for what do you believe about anything? Because theology, we kind of act like there's this discipline of theology. What we're really talking about is just reality. Reality doesn't matter what you call it. Thinking about truth is not theological, it's just thinking about truth. So it kind of theological aspects. But the point is that different cultures parse these things different ways. And the Germans basically took their eye off the ball in the same way that Americans are taking their eye off the ball. And what I mean by that is that if you really understand freedom, and if you understand the scriptures, you know that you have to fight for what is right and true, you have to live your faith out and sometimes that means literally losing your head being killed being tortured, being ostracized that you have to live your faith out. And it seems to me that the first parallel between the Germans of the 30s and America today is that the Christians in particular and how you define Christians is the whole thing because I've said to Jewish friends like Dennis said, most Christians are not Christians they're gentiles. And to be really be a Christian is another thing. But even Christians in America, it's sickening for me to see, like evangelical Christians have they've made a philosophical theological error. They somehow have come to believe kind of what the Germans believed that you don't have to do anything. Luther said, it's all about grace, right? Well, you all know that these things can become religious bromides and cliches. They become meaningless. How can it be all about grace these who I don't have to do anything? We're not talking about Salvation. We know that you can't do anything to save yourself. God saves you utterly 100%. However, if you're saved by God, there will be fruit, and you'll do all kinds of stuff. And if you don't do all that kind of stuff, you didn't get saved. You're a hypocrite, if you say you were Christian, but you're not living like you believe in the God of the

What Happened When Eric 'Came Out' as a Trump Supporter

"Because when I wrote the bonhoeffer book, so many people came to love me who then once I came out of the closet as believing Trump was better than Hillary Clinton as a candidate is pretty crazy stuff. When I came out on that, these people thought, I get emails now a little bit less often, but I was getting emails like almost every day. Have you lost your mind? Didn't you read your own bonhoff for book? Don't you see, you know, effectively that Hitler, I mean, that's a Trump is Hitler two. Don't you get it? He's an authoritarian monster. You know, and I realized that it's almost funny because it's precisely the opposite. It's the left that has taken on the mantle of Hitler. Has anybody referred to Hitler as having a mantle before? The biblical, it's an anti mantle sure. But the point is the point is that the parallels are stark. But even a number of years ago, even I don't know, 7 years ago, 8 years ago, people would say, how did this happen in Nazi Germany? How did that happen? And I said, it happened exactly like it's happening here now. That's how it happened. So the idea that I mean, of course, if you have a racist view of Germans, it's very easy to say how it happened. The Germans are uniquely evil. But if you believe that you're as bad as the Germans who hated the Jews as being uniquely evil, we all know, as Dennis just said that it's not a racial issue. It's a human issue. And we don't know why God allows it to go as it does through history. You know, if I were God, I don't think I would have let the Holocaust happen, but I'm not

"Two on W B A P So Jim came over and with my beautiful wife, we walked around. We looked at all the different options because opinion and boy did it make a huge difference. But there was a lot of fun and I'm gonna personally thank him on the air for doing that, And he's a wonderful great guy with a great sense of humor, and he was telling me about doing his show he doesn't show. He's always done a show from his house for the most part, and he was doing a show on his. He's got one grandchild. So far. He obviously loves that little boy and he comes in and he says Opa That's recalls him open. Guess that see German way of calling me Grandpa. You wanna play with play swords he was doing a show is like just like a little little tiny grandson comes in and wants to play swords, which is great, but not one when grandpas on the air is not funny. Great little story he shared with me and you may have heard it when he was doing a show the other day when it happened, That's so fine. So we're continuing the search. And I will be going again with a man who needs lots of love on the year because he's that good. David Gauss is my realtor with Tatra, Monty's home selling team. David is incredible, sweetheart. I get a big fat hugs whenever I see him because he's a wonderful guy. And so he and my wife and I will be going around looking at houses again this weekend somewhere to see what our options are, as we check things out, decide or to check out Todd's Work got over under agent dot com over under agent Outcome last year. The average his sellers. If you sold your house with Todd last year in the Metroplex he saved The average for everybody that sold with him last year, all the house Uh, 7.17%. When you take 7.17%. Which is 7100. What 70 bucks for every 100,000 your home is worth That's how much more he got on average. You told him how many houses they sold Hey, literally made like 1.3 Year $1.3 million for all of Todd's clients and sold them last year made over a million dollars more than they would have if they didn't go with him. So that is a freaking stimulus check. Tax free, Of course. So there you go. Use my guy over under agents dot com over under agent dot com. Dallas City leaders. Clarify that 911 called the version method mentioned in recent rescinded memo. They're clarifying it. Oh, I love this. So they come out to Claire. If I the 911 We're no longer going to show up when you call 911 for certain things, Right. So here's the Here's the great, great great explanation, and it's funny because the more they try to explain what happens, the more they dig themselves into a hole, don't they? So they they're discussing the city Council. Now that we have all heard about this where they're not gonna prosecute motor theft, interference of child custody. Criminal mischief so many things they won't show up anymore. Just say I go online and fill it out online because we're a third World City and by the way, W after a TV channel, it reported this today that other major cities all we want to be like other major cities like Los Angeles. And Seattle and Austin or interview this. Oh, let's be like them, huh? Gonna be like Seattle. You wanna be like Austin or Los Angeles? Hey, we could have our own time zone like Seattle. Yeah, That'd be great. Black people could be shot and killed in that when they claim to care about black lives. That'd be great. And they let him die and bleed out because they don't want the cops in there. I'd be great to have that here. How do we sign up for that? City Council members and I'll sing. The answer is to educate the residents. Oh, that's it. Educate us? Yes. Frustration that they shared was over this unauthorized memo released by an employee I'm gonna pause it right there and explain more that you gotta hear this because now they're saying Oh, There's so much to unpack here, and I'm just getting started off supplies right there. We're gonna continue coming up next on the crisscross program..

"Program that time selling MacIntosh desktop publishing. If you remember this word desktop publishing system was pretty expensive and apple wanted to facilitate the sales with leasing and consumer credit programs, and I was doing that kind of stuff at yet. So they recruited me. It was very very young. I think twenty seven twenty eight and I started with apple Italy there. Right. And then you moved onto Amazon which. Have been a very different culture what we Amazon well omit Amazon when it was running apple Europe at that time. So very late nineteen ninety s and Jeff Jesus asked me if I was interesting in running the newborn international business that time I'm ahead only very small perations in the UK and Germany. We're talking about the end of nineteen ninety nine and I gladly accepted. It was very hard for me at that time to apple and Steve Jobs because I had no intention to do it not at all. But my meeting with Jeff and also remember that time John Doerr was a part of the board. And some of the executives made me really think this big deal this company series. And what impression did Jeff Bezos leave on you at that time. I mean as you're saying it was still a relatively small company. That thing was his ambitions say what made you jump from this incredibly cool company apple to Amazon. I remember the conversation with Jeff was he was very excited because finally Amazon was becoming a one billion dollar revenue company that time. And I think that I was super impressed by first of all how genuine Jefferson is a very straightforward high principal person, then his long-term view and the focus on what he called the inputs of building a business and not the outwards all of this made me think that ecommerce was going to be big. And that time was really really really was the very beginning. And I thought I should give it a try. I mean, this would regret not trying this, and I ended up being lucky because the Amazon turn that was in the today, it a very hard decision because, you know, leaving apple that time would Steve Jobs, and I still remember the I MAC was becoming a very popular computer to accompany that was losing a lot of money because I'm losing a lot of money and was a hard decision. A lot of people told me you're stupid as a rock making that decision. Yep. But you haven't regretted it. I have not regretted it one bit. And when you say that you're in charge of international operations. What did that mean at that time first of all the business and Amazon had in the UK was books music and videos was even called DVD? We still were selling VHS we're studying selling DVD that time. And so it was expanding the category of products from a media focus three Taylor to style. Telling Tron IX, and toys and apparel and clothing. So expanding the categories of the products and entering into countries. So expanding our European operations entering into Japan overtime into China. India all of those panel much of Amazon's proposition remains universally. Valid and how much has to be adapted to the local cultures and traditions and regulations and Louis the next question. In fact, the reason why I'm saying that I still remember when Jeff asked me during the interview process. So what do you think is the difference between French customer and American customers or German or bridge customer? And it said, fundamentally, none all want to have great prices and great service. I think that was the right answer, by the way in just started laughing, really hard. Like he does in Europe. We did not have to adopt much the local habits because Amazon value was so vastly better than the local habits in terms of customer service in terms of customer returns policies in terms of trusting customers, and the technology that was being billed the simplicity of the website that the end of the day. It was really trying to say we have to the Amazon way versus a German way or French way..
