"Red River, technology decisions aren't black and white. Think red, 7, 15, what's hot Dave? Well, you know what, a Dodger Stadium, left field was just right for Southern California, native Giancarlo Stanton. Let me explain. That's where the all star MVP hit his two run 457 foot Homer in the American League three two win over the national league. Actually I'll let him explain. I always say in left field, come come and try to scalp tickets, whatever we could afford and stood out there in that field and to be playing that field and hit one out there is an incredible for me. So he goes from sitting there to hitting a bowl out there fourth ending Homer's provided all the American League runs, twins, Byron buxton, then hit the game winner once at all for three last night. The Orioles were a Lopez getting two outs in the 7th setting for the American League their 9th straight win. Hey, no pressure, now just go out and win it all. That's what Bayern Munich, the soccer superpower from Germany. He was dealing with every year Canadian Alfonso Davies, who got his start in Major League Soccer. Now starts for Bayern Munich. You know, we have to keep to keep a high standing on his team. With the quality of players, we have anything possible. You've seen it in the 2020 season when we won 6 show fees, you know, and that's just, you know, that's just incredible for any team. Yeah, you heard that right. 6 trophies in 2020, including the Champions League title, Bayern Munich is one ten straight German league titles. They play D.C. United tonight, it's sold out Audi field. Hey, did you notice in round 13 of the amateur draft, the Orioles selected a left handed pitcher, Jared Beck from saint Leo university. You really stands out. He's 7 feet tall, and he would be the tallest major league ever if he makes a big leaks. That Randy Johnson guy was pretty tall, and he was pretty good too. But he was maybe. With those kind of arms, you're halfway to home plate. What's your throw the ball? Dave Jackson. From sitting there to hitting their fourth inning homers provided all the American League runs, twins, Byron, buxton, then hit the game winner after Stanton's home are Juan Soto for three last night. He had two outs on the three pitches in the 7th inning. It's the American League's 9th straight win. Hey, no pressure. Now just go out and win it all. "I mean, those are pretty much your 18 set. Are they not in the east? I mean, there'll be some juggling, but that's basically it. Yeah. And you know, you got to flip around the point percentages a little bit, right? We're still, you know, because we're still so, you know, so uneven in games. But Drake's, I'm going to so today is Tuesday. So we've got the leaf game tonight. They're playing New Jersey. And in my I got a segment between periods once bug and rain. What I'm going to talk about is the playoff system. And why I think it's ripe for change. Two things have become very clear for me. Over the last few weeks, watching the NFL won an out playoff game. Like, oh my gosh, what are we missing? What are we missing that those games? Like they just draw you in. And then, of course, the 8 teams that are pretty much locked in, here we are in February 1st. We got a you got 16s, 17s that are just wandering or 8 teams in the east, wandering around in a circle, and they're not going to play. I learned this watching Landon play, my son play in the German league. So I want to adopt a playoff system similar to theirs. So you have your divisions, two conferences. The first seed in each division, they're seated one and two in the playoffs. On points. Teams three through 6 doesn't matter what the vision they're in. They're seated three to 6 by points. So now you've got your first 6 teams by points. Team 7, 8, 9 and ten, play a two out of three play in series 7, 8 verse 9. Those winners get seated at 7 and 8 in the playoffs. So there are your 8 teams and why this works and why it's so cool right is that each year there's at least three playoff races going on at the same time. You're trying to win the division. Now say you're not good enough to be there. Well, then you want to stay in the three to 6 group because you sure as hell don't want to be in that 7 to ten group to play the two out of three series. Right. But now if you're a team 11 and 12, you're now fighting to get to number ten. Yeah. So you see all those various playoff races going on. And if your team is number 6, you're like, oh my God, this game is really important because the 7th theme might flip them. And now you become in that 7 to ten series. It is really exciting. And just think of how many more teams would be involved in some sort of playoff race if that were the case right now. And look, I don't know why the NHL never seriously wants to even engage or discuss it, right? I mean, I know at NBC, there were all kinds of conversations about how you could just either create that play in formula or whatever. Let's just freshen it up a little bit out a little bit more zip to it all. And here's the other thing. They have often said from the league office. Well, we don't want to cheapen the regular season. I think this enhances the regular season. I agree..

"But he said no in the end you you cheer for team. You're cheering for the for. What's on the shirt and the color of the shirt you're essentially. Yes absolutely and he said no. It's not the end of the world. The world is going to the earth will continue to turn. But it is one of those slow drip drip drip that. You're just kinda like you know you want to at least have the notion that you're watching the game for itself in the. It's not just being sold something. But i guess the counterpoint is ghetto. You look thirty five years ago in the rink though white and then all of a sudden they weren't and now you know really they've lucien. There hasn't been taught me an that. Point about the evolution in advertising has an actually evolved that much sense. You get the occasional kind of rotating board and of course. There is a little bit it is. It'll stop that's an Late in in various points but in the end it's just it's you know they wear patches of other kinds on their jersey assets. It's just gonna be up on the on the sort of on the collarbone. I guess we can deal with it as long as we don't turn into. You know the the german league or the finnish league the ones that are probably the most guilty of just having endless ads. you know it's funny. I play with the guy played purely hockey with a guy that played very low division german in german leagues. And you know he still wears his pants and his pants. There's there's ads on the front and there's ads on the back and it's it's just funny to see up close. You're like this is a lot to look at and You know. I think the nhl will be. I don't think any tell will wanna do that. I think in the end. They also have the premium of the of the shirt itself there isn't exclusivity to having the one thing there and the one thing on the helmet but then again you know ten years from now we could be talking about the exclusivity of the two things and of course the cfl as to logos on their jersey already. So i don't know i i i do. I do accept the business of it all but it does you know in the end catego- i like the fact that have that it was just. It was just a hockey sweater. And that was it. And now it's a hockey sweater slash billboard. Indiana makes me sad. Tell me those. German hockey pants had the iconic for rings out. Zee on pj. No in fact to back to the beginning of i. i'll look at. I'll let you guys know next week. But i believe next pants You know quite possibly could be local building materials supplier. Oh.

"If you know came in with a hard cap and he's a nobody can earn more than one hundred thousand dollars a year. But that's going to get thrown out by courts. As i very obvious to everybody who has looked at this. So if you go to a percentage cab and you take the german league buying munich with a very low wages to revenue share which is probably in and around forty percent but you have other clubs trying to compete with them at maybe sixty seventy percent and just as of now. You can't spend more than fifty percent. You don't actually achieve a lot in terms of competitiveness. Anything you make it cheaper for. Dominant clubs to be dominant. So the key. If you wanna take a lead point would actually be to talk about revenue redistribution. Why are we only collectively selling broadcasting. Or we're not talking about sponsorship. We're not talking about merchandising. We're not talking about all these elements that in the us or are a lot more harmonized and therefore create more balance. And that's where. I think there's a bit of the hypocrisy you one solidarity and you want equality but not when you have to take money out of your own pocket and shared with your competitors and that's of course that's another interesting point of friction. I think for private equity in sport is that yes you generate probably increase of value in the club based on how professional you set up the management structures and the new investment you bring in et cetera et cetera. But ultimately you're selling a shared product right. The value of a team goes up because the joint product that all the clubs together generate is more valuable so if you have a league of eighteen teams and two of them are privately equity private equity owned and they take a profit out of that by through the cell arguably the other sixteen clubs contributed to that increase in value. So there's another there's also redistributive question in that if you had that setup shouldn't a share of the revenue that you take out or the prophet that you take out be redistributed amongst the rest of the team's because they contribute to the increase in value that you profit from so there's a lot there but the cost control. It's there are so many challenges to it from text legislation to antitrust legislation to also frankly the business interests because a lot of the dominant club stay benefit from the fact that they can at the moment do what they wanna do. And the redistribution that would be needed to balance it out to have more of an equal footing. I think will simply not happen. For the very simple reason.

I sat down for his be, to be honest with these things. Selected a Frisbee. Yeah, I was on asphalt. That's not, you know, Seriously, don't ever step on her. No, don't run. Don't ask Paul and step on a Frisbee. I was bad recipes suggest. Well, now I know that now I know that How old were you? When you did that had enough. Four or five. Okay, so I can be forgiven. All right. Rick Carlisle, returning to the Indiana Pacers as coach, and he's backing Jason Kidd for the Mavs job. This is, according to ESPN's Tim McMahon. Carlisle will sign a four year $29 million contract. He was Indiana's head coach for four seasons. You resigned earlier this month as Mavs head coach. And he offered a strong endorsement of Jason Kidd to be the next coach in Dallas. Mark Cuban, the owner of Dallas, the Maverick said he plans to hire new ahead of basketball operations before finding Carlisle's replacement. Yeah, that was weird. When I heard that he left and there was a by mutual agreement, I guess they that he left Dallas, so do they take his recommendations seriously? I don't know why you would. That's weird, though. Yeah, right. You usually don't see a coach on the way out Mutual or not, unless it is a retirement right? Like I'm sure Pop is going to have some sort of, say in the coach. That follows him with the Spurs. Right. I find it to be more of a college thing that approach any chance Becky Harmon gets sent. I would say she's still there right as well. She might get the Yes, she is right. But she is in consideration for the Portland job. I know that she's one of the finalists. It's Her and Chauncey Billups, I believe are the last two. Okay, But if that's not the one, I would not be surprised if it is the Spurs. Yeah, that makes sense, too, because she's there and everything else. And don't be shocked about Carlyle because he is that the president of the Coaches Association Yeah, He's very pro Coach, Huh? Okay, so he's just doing them as solid by saying, Hey, I recommend him. Okay? I don't know. Assessment says. Yeah. Okay. Now that you recommended him, forget Cuba is going to wait and find someone from shark tank. The the new coach is just going to walk on the show and be like you're hired, and for that reason I'm out. That's what the fans and I'll say. More off season talks expected on Ben Simmons future with the 70 Sixers. According to Adrienne, Whoa, Gina has watched Urowsky notes woes Neuro ski God Darn it. Team management began discussions. I just calm boat discussions this week in Chicago with Simmons agent Clutch sports CEO Rich Paul. He engaged Philadelphia on whether it makes sense to find a trade before the start of the season, But no request was made. Simmons 24 is four years $147 million left on his contract. What happens with him? That's a lot of money for a guy that won't shoot. I don't want to say can't shoot you guys are bigger basketball fans, is it that he can't shooter? He won't shoot or is he won't issue because he can't shoot. I think it's both. Okay. It's both what they sense you're not going to shoot. If you really can't well, interest exposure. What did he take? I think of the whole series. He took three shots in the fourth quarter or something like that. It was like a crazy number was three shots in a seven game series. Fourth quarter, all of them combined. He shot three times and only shot in two games. He made all of them 200%. That's even weirder. I mean, and that that what's his value? You guys. Some team values him really highly. There will be a team out there that values him very highly. There's been people at air hosts in the station who I've read tweets from and some some like him. Something he's he'd be worth a chance. Shot of the Bulls going to get a guy that can handle ball. I personally like Ben Simmons, but it doesn't matter because the Bulls cannot get him. They can't afford him. Right or Buddy Weiser. How's that work? You've got cat guys cap guys can always make things work out, and they just hired a pretty good one and JJ pulp, but If if you want him you can like we saw it with James Harden. The Nets found a way to make it work. The finances probably don't line up, but they found a way to make it work. With Simmons. Hey, the Bulls don't have the draft capital to get him. You would need that probably to get a guy like Ben Simmons. And on top of that, if you don't have the draft capital you have to part with either Zach Lavine or Nicola Vucevic's and part of what would make Simmons really good in Chicago. In my opinion. Is that he would have those pieces next to him, okay? So that's probably a no go for that. And they say they are committed to keeping them so we'll see. Seattle cracking. You know what they are going to be doing. They're going to be playing hockey. Yeah. New team names Dave Hack stole as their first head coach. The 52 Year old was an assistant coach for the Toronto Maple leaves for the past two seasons. They haven't done well coach for the Philadelphia Flyers for 3.5 seasons. The cracking will hold their expansion draft on July 21st begin play next season and as the NHL's 32nd franchise for the Blackhawks that will impact them and everybody else because we have to expose a player or two. How the expansion Well, the Blackhawks have so many young players. They're they're coming around with so many young guys. It seems like every week there announcing their signing another young player, right, And so that's a good thing. I know they send another couple of German players guys wing in the German league, and I can't remember if there's a stipulation to where you can't just hand over prospects. There has to be an established player. As well. Yeah, I think that there is something like that because it would be too easy, right? You just hand them prospects and then you have a team that's basically NHL team, so you have to have some sort of type of player, whether it's tenure or age or something or skill level. So we're going to lose somebody, and hopefully we just expose. You know we're not going to lose somebody that's going to impact us so much. I just hope that I mean, I just hope leagues would stop expanding. That would be nice, But that's not all 32 teams. You would think that that's enough, right? You never know what's enough for this team these leagues. Nowadays, the NFL has got 32. They decided to play 1/17 game, and now they're going to they're going to. They still talk about expansion. How you going to come up with the schedule for 34? It's ridiculous. And they would have to go to more. Yeah. So I don't know. Sometimes you can't just leave well enough alone. I tried to bring this up the other day. Soccer in Europe. Soccer everywhere they don't add teams. They don't add teams to their leagues. They just have, you know. They have the same number of two way but but they add teams. They're just not at that level, right? Because money is always there's always money to be made, and that's what drives all of this. It would make it if if sports in this country understood what relegation was and promotion back in the day. All the sports here would be more interesting because the sports in in Europe and everywhere else around the world they have relegation and promotion. Where if you played poorly, you go down to the lower league and you make back the less money. Is that the centennial in you talking? No, That's the That's the intelligence. Uh, me talking, we come back. We'll have more stuff as we always do on waddles world here on ESPN 1000..

"To go that hasn't he. He joins us to by this by the time of the final. I don't know peppers yet as he decided to go already by the time. The finals play announced. He's announced that pet side to go there for pep. I think it's better if they don't win it. of course. it gives him permission from adult point of view. I think it's really interesting. Because they lost the league by twenty five points that year and the bernie point ahead of by alive accuser. So there's a big gap at domestic level of asli sir. Like you said. As agreed to go he sat in the suns. At wembley already knowing that he's basically by player after the final. The thing that's interesting to me is the levin dolph case because lemon dove ski joins. After the end of the following season dortmund do close the gop domestically but they still come nineteen points behind buying in the league however. I don't think it changes the trajectory for buying a huge amount. Intensive fidora miranda's. I wonder whether it means that woman can bring in more more players may be keep. Hold of lemon dos. Gay you hit levin dossier with a contract extension there and then with peak levin. Dusky cloth obviously proved that he's done it. He can do it. You know in four five years. They're dortmund they've walked moonwalk double like another league title and champions league this around around. It's tricky because actually if you think about the trajectory for the downfall of dortmund timeline. Wise is extremely similar to what happened to liverpool this season and the distance from their champions league victory. right there's different things play with the pandemic but on the personal stuff and the personal stuff. Yeah for sure. I think the thing that makes it interesting is obviously haven't won the league since then. There was a couple of things that go into creating the enviro the the the conditions that we've gone our right germany and i think that that trump is the one because i think if dortmund had won the game right it wouldn't have been a robbery. None of us right. Thus far is the psychological impact of winning that final for took go and play for is always going to be there for a number of players. Then you've also got caught is secured himself as an absolute elite manager in the eyes of the world. even though ever knew he was anyway germane. Sorry people knew that but still you know what it's like when you get to finals. You have to win them. I wonder whether it shifts the psychology at dortmund of being like a place that you develop and then move on. Because it's proof that you want you can win the very very top title. I think that happened when they lost one in twas ended in the nineties undermine i think it makes i think it makes a really really attractive destination will forget ninety-eight. Our hard rail had to fight to beat dormant. I think i went to the semi. Didn't then sunday basically masterclass now. The only reason they beat them and like you win a champions league it gives you the storage momentum and it creates unpredictable results which is why waiting a. What if about it but one of them is really doberman. A champions league a different caliber of play answers the phone or agent answers the phone and there is that two year window where you pick up some players who would otherwise go. There was changes. I think the entire Also wanted us for the german league. People look at bo bo bind wanted an old german final note. It's like and final and.
European Super League: What It Means for UEFA, Other Leagues
"European soccer league. This was trending on sunday. Basically it's a league that's in the works that would take the best teams from the english. Premier league la liga. which is the spanish league syria. Which is the italian league in the bundesliga. The german league and had them play in a top tier superleague which would be like a season. Long uefa champions league rather than those teams playing their regular leagues the other teams. Just fight it out for the top spot. What does that do to the regular leagues. So critics say it's gonna kill the regular leagues does so well. This is the one positive is it gives leads a fighting chance to win the mvp l. Yeah le- ot that you take the six best teams from england out and lead susan like ninth place right now. The top of it yeah. They're finishing top of the table. So go ahead. I don't like hate on this from kids. That never made the all star team. I wanna see a super league owners of teams like maybe not leads but like fulham's or not on the all star team they're like oh we don't wanna be destitute. Don't lost about invited the playboy mansion right. it's like the teams in laliga. That only sell tickets when real madrid comes to town. Those are the teams. That really. don't want it all now. that's that's interesting point because the so many teams but like you take away. Barcelona and real madrid from laliga. That's fucked you take. You can really fuck some of these leagues. You take byron munich from this leaker you fuck them. Yeah that's that's tough but a lot of the good teams have already signed up and said that they're down to do it so happened. Advertisers her in the money's in the money the money's there the teams are in. Yeah it soccer. So that's a billion layers red tapes. I couldn't even begin to unravel it. When i was reading reading for this but i we'll see if it happens.
Chelsea remain unbeaten under Tuchel with big win over Everton
"Frank leboeuf and don hutchison with us. Reflect on chelsea's two nil victory over everton and stevie. I feel drawn to you. As one of thomas calls biggest critics. Surely now you get credit. And i don't understand this biggest critic. I'm just telling you the things that he's doing. Franklin paul was doing as well no to this game against them. There's no question they would a class above today. You know the to move the ball from the back to the medal to the front as fantastic right. Frank lampard teams will do that. The difference between this team and franks team is not given up goals. So now is a different. That's a big difference as a difference. But but the the two as is a frank was the manager of any of the team and the premier league. It wouldn't go side that's came to my argument because this chelsea would've league because they had a great defensive unit and how horrible patch yes denied up. No the going back to what we do. Best and far five scoring goals. The last name premier league games frontline. Bob was in charleston twelve goals. Guess war nine games friendly. The name games. The tickles beating child's guess. What twelve goals. In exactly the same as that is why i'm arguing. For frank lampard rushing tickled to buy goods. I'm just telling the goes against the eleven games. Defeats is the big caveat. Your argument the percent. Yeah tom without. Don't what do you think you agree. We'll stevie saying do not only thing i would say honest is. I was trying to be law towards franklin a good friend of mine and the job that don't watch chelsea and frank author vulnerable resolve torch. I wasn't sure what results that are going to get. They will fifty fifty game. Sometimes the majority of them went with him in someone against him. Breath sites almost took come in an extremely well. No eleven games in nine clean sheets. Dot is impressive. I thought that was that best performance against have that looked shop. Kyw hubbard's look fit a potentially cut out a couple of goals won't choke off for handball. Chalked off that it was an own goal but think this has been a change. I think in the mental illness to chelsea blows frank. Upn a big critic of since he made that big move from germany was this his best game in chelsea shirt today. Yes definitely i mean. It's an encouraging performance. Even if i think he can do much better. Because i him playing for liver kuzin last season i better than even today. So of course. I'm expecting a lot from a talented player and not because of the price that he's been paid he's been transferred you just because of the quality that he showed when he was being in the german league. In College or in high school, so that's one of the big differences I see now then in college as opposed to when I played A one and done era like when I played I left early one year earlier. That's my Jewish, even Stanford. In two thousand and tooth enter the NBA. Now kinda normal I. You know all Americans believe after three years Jay Williams and chain that. for Dukes three and four years respectively, and they were awesome players now. If you're good at all, you leave after one year and maybe two I mean it's very rare. That guy stays in for two years. It's certainly not helped college basketball on all this one and done era in have blamed the players I totally understand I was there once upon a time. You want to be a pro your window to a pros only open for so long but I also long I don't like the narrative that that staying in college hurts these kids. I think that's that's absolutely false and stupid to say that It doesn't hurt to stay longer in college. It only helps them especially if If, they're playing for fantastic coach is like Tommaso chef or in my case, Mike Montgomery like Michael. Jordan, and and Shaquille, O'Neal and magic, Johnson three of the best arguably top ten players of all time. They all stayed at least three years in college, and it didn't hurt them step. Could they have made more money? Yeah, but it didn't hurt them. "Obviously you know, the the younger the player, the more time you have in the more forgiving you are about some of the things that need fixing whereas when you're getting into the juniors and seniors, you're. You're probably thinking more. This is this is more something you may end up having to live with at least at least for a while It's interesting, though because there are some guys like you know Halliburton is another where they're so skinny. Physically underdeveloped that I do think it impacts how they had a shoot, and that may ages they fill out and get older and kind of grow into their bodies a little more. Right and that's what makes I. Think this draft in particular, really really difficult, because there are a lot of either somewhat physically underdeveloped guards, or in the case of killing Hayes. He's just really fucking young like just another way to put it I think. He's like eighteen half years old right now and Hayes. I think how much Killian Hanes. Have you watched so far? So I actually saw him in person last year. Basketball Without Borders so I got some idea. There haven't seen much from the German league I've really been focusing on the college. Guys right now and then we're going to go to the internationals. I've watched a little more than I. Have a ball. I'm. He's interesting because he had. He has a skill level to him, even though he hasn't shot well and you just you just hope he won't get swallowed up athletically. That's like the downside. Yeah, that's what worries me to see. Some people who end up having killing, Hayes like number one on their board and I think that's like crazy. Even as someone who has like number six, my I really high on them and I think he's really great, but. But when I watch him, not only do i. see that lack of like first. Step I right like I've heard the comparison to like James Harden. I've heard the comparison de Ngelo Russell and like the level of shifting that those guys had that lower levels. Just to me far outpaces anything we've seen from Hayes. Hayes is really good at changing pace in changing speeds in finding little ways with his work to get into the paint using A. A ball screen, but like Diangelo Russel James, Harden. Those guys can just take a guy on an island, and just like Shimmy amount of his fucking shoes, and then get into the paint. Yeah, yeah, I think we're we're. We're probably talking about a different different level than those guys. Probably, but you don't know right. He's young. Maybe he gets you so young. Yeah, maybe athleticism goes up another notch and all of a sudden. You're like wow, you know. Know, that's part of the unknown of projecting with teenagers. Are GonNa be when they're twenty five? We'll semi website with Hayes in general the number one thing we're all looking for in the draft is a perimeter player, especially a weighing who can play with the ball in his hands, and you could just give it to him..

"Okay Obviously you've had eventful season to put it mildly You guys you guys had memorable Champions League group stage great performances go in good performances against Liverpool Napoli You were dominating the Austrian league that in January so erling Holland to Dortmund Takumi mean Amino to Liverpool and and wins have been harder to come by since then. How have you experienced this season and in dealing with the player sales in January? Yeah so you know. There's a big learning curve here when you're when you're in Europe and then specific to each leak. I learned a lot about the German Bundesliga last year. And and how and then also working in Europe. But now I've had coach and working in the Austrian League. There's a few things that are different than than the German League Our winter break is a lot longer. There's a lot it's a lot more of a settling league so there's potential for you to lose more players in the winter Which also means that? You know it's it can feel like starting over again with a new team. We have also a division in our league after we play one round we divide the league in half and the top teams play against each other for one more round in the bottom teams play against each other for one more round So that we actually finished Our our first part of the League in our. We're ready to move into the second part points. Get past the six top sixteen play against each other home and away. So that's ten more gains right now. We sit three points behind last. Who's a good team Than the other challenge that we've had is is you know going into the Europa league phase. We only played really one competitive game before before we played Frankford in. You know we weren't quite ready for the standard of what the game was GonNa be Europa League and the first game in Frankfurt. Frankly we were terrible so you know we have a young team. There's been a lot to learn. There's been a lot for me to learn And the tough part is as we went through some tough moments in February and we really came together as a group and challenge each other to get better. You know we honed in on a few things and then we really started playing playing really well in the last two games and then the league stopped so Yeah it's been. It's been an incredible year A a big year for me for learning and and continuing to try to apply my leadership principles into how things operate here in Europe. And then there's been some great success in some big challenges but that's why I can't you know that's why I came here for all of those things and in the end it's been incredibly rewarding. Incredibly warne yet. The last time I saw you in person was in Liverpool When you guys had that Wild Champions League game the four three game earlier I guess. That was what early October. And when you look at that experience that whole Champions League experience you also. I'm not going to use the word viral now. Because that carries other applications but you you had a video that that became that went out everywhere you got recognized and like your your name is known in European soccer a lot more today than it was at the beginning of the season. And I'm just wondering what that's been like for you. I don't you know I I'm aware of the fact that the video has made me More of a public figure and in a little bit more known But it really hasn't changed the the way that I go about my work and so for me it's always about maximizing the potential of what a group is And so you know. That's that's my focus here every day you know. We talked before about the fact that I speak German here I've really had to just to the culture. I've had to really invest not just in the players in the team but in a staff in the club in the fan base you know in German an understanding the culture and and try to adapt the best I can but still be so uniquely myself And so in the end Yeah the the video seen from Liverpool I think highlighted some of the things that I that I do in the end. A coach who's always judged by the successive is teams. So you know that's why it's so important to focus on those things more than anything else. That's what I that's what I tried to do. That make sense Earlier Holland is probably the most exciting new star in Europe and You had them for a half season. I'm wondering what you learned about Holland working with him. Yeah he's a special personality he he's clearly incredible talent. I mean his athleticism speed You know they it makes him it right away puts him in the upper echelon of of talents in our sport and then when you add his desire to be successful has mentality every day his his the way he works at his technical ability the way he works finishing everyday the the you know how how much he puts into trying to be the best footballer he could possibly be every day he was different in that way than any player. I've ever seen he was the first one to show up the last one to leave. You actually came back often in the afternoon to to do more regeneration And he wanted. He always wanted video feedback. He was always you know when you give him information he wanted more. He wanted to apply it in the right ways. He cared about the team. He's special. You know so right now. He's dealing with a little bit of fame. You know Some of the things that he went through when playing against PS g and the way that PS. She responded to some of the things that he put on instagram and whatnot. So he'll have his challenges you know. And he's only nineteen years old and he's GonNa make mistakes but in the end his desire to be the best different than anything I've ever seen and I think that along with the talent will will lead him to places that that I think. I've said this to you before but I just believe that the ceiling for him so incredibly high. How do you work with somebody? Who has that much potential but obviously isn't the finished product. Well I mean this is this is. This is Red Bull Salzburg in you know in in in total Obviously is a very special but were this is what we have are all of these young eighteen. What happens is the club scouts? Fifteen and sixteen sixteen year old players brings them into the academy brings them into freeing creates a cooperation with that club and then helps them Prepare themselves for the next. Step with Salisbury You know I think here right now. We have maybe fifteen players that that will easily be able to sell in the next two years for at least fifteen million dollars or euros so you know it's a so much of what I do. Every day is not just preparing the team to be successful as a group but also grooming each individual to maximize their own potential and often. That's that's as much about the person as it is about the player and frankly that's that's the part that that I find. The most engaging in the most interesting is is getting to know these people and getting to know you know their their strengths and what makes them tick? What drives them how to use their their past experiences often. They're from Africa or they're from tough areas of of Europe and trying to figure out how to help Identified their best qualities in really. Accentuate those things and challenged into to be their best version of themselves every day and the more that do that successfully than the more that the team comes together so it it. It's all foundation all about what our principles FOOTBA. What is the team try to achieve? But once we establish that then it's so much more about fine tuning the individuals abilities to to fit within the group to be the best that they can be. You know We had Tyler Adams on the podcast who might also get the five appearance jacket before too long he he was he was on recently and he even talked about how you know. Obviously he's been he's dealt with injuries but you know he's still Champions League debut not too long ago Just such a good player but he. He did talk about having to adjust this year to not being with you. And I'm wondering from your end this. How how we've you've you what Tyler's doing tyler extended his contract with Leipzig. You know are you still in contact with them fairly regularly. Yes we are. We speak often You know I I I try to be as close with them as I can be but also give him enough room to to manage this world on his on his own and he he can do that you know. He doesn't need me but you know I think it's important that he has somebody in his life that can give him a little reminders of all the things that that make him different making special so You know he wants. He's gone through a really tough time for six. At least six months he was injured. And then coming back. It's also a testament to ability in but also how highly Leipzig Thinks of them that they they put him in the lineup. As soon as he got healthy and you know he he is a good player. He is a special talent or he is driven in ways. That that that I think separate him from from most other players but he's also you know he's young and he still has to learn how to manage certain situations I e. He's always the thing that's always made him. So so great is so brave and that you know that. The fearlessness of his personality drives his talent. And you know I could see by watching them play in certain moments just coming back injury in and trying to get that going the right way that he you know he was built. Certain doubts in in that you know so we had one conversation in just a tried to reiterate to him all the things that have always made him so good and then he's just got back again. Yeah you're right. He got into his first game against Tottenham. And you know they because he's got position flexibility. They've used him sometimes defensive midfielder sometimes as a right wing back in a four three or five. So you know. I think everyone knows that his best position is in the six but because he's so versatile you know life's accused him in different ways but tyler's got a big career ahead of him in in. You know any time that I think about my relationship with him. It's more about you know us. Enjoying each other appreciating each other and then finding ways to always support each other speaking of us soccer. I'm curious to know sort of how you've observed the meltdown that. Us Soccer is a federation had in the past week and the this legal strategy that the federation taken against the women's players in their gender discrimination lawsuit which you know we have a new US. Soccer President now Cindy parlow cone is replaced. Carlos Cordeiro resigned. I how have you observed all that over where you are? Yeah it's it's. It's interesting because I've actually in Germany and in Austria. I've gotten a lot of questions from people about. Why is our women's national teams so good and my answer.

Of course, Jeff melanoma have been illegal everybody. Happy New Year's to everyone out there who is listening also happy holidays because I don't think we've had a show since before Christmas. So well because it's other days we've had been Christmas ABN AM to Christmas. And we got off of that. So we have some things to talk about we are now entering transfer season in Europe where twice a year European clubs can sign players loan player cell transfer windows, open transfer window. Yes as everybody was. So as everybody was saying happy New Year's I'll saying happy transfer window everybody 'cause January. I officially news official. Yes. So we have to see a lot of money get exchange. Yes. It's always I will say soccer is the one sport where it's lying season all year long. And of course, as we approached the windows, the talks the conversations the rumors he'd up, but usually there been there already been transferred that had been accepted just they begin fischel during the window time. So usually in the wintertime, though, we do see less transfers than we do in the summer because it's mid season teams are not really trying to shake it up too much. They might be trying to bring in one or one player to some teams trying to like try to maybe two or three in the Premier Li trying to get up to that. Right. You'll see like maybe a team will sign a player for depth or something like that. But usually I mean last year, we saw Lexus Sanchez get sold to Manchester United during the during the window filled. Cotin you got sold from Liverpool to Barcelona, but those are not very often. I do expect to see a couple of big ones. We'll talk about that later on. But we have to talk about the biggest transfer in United States men's national team soccer history as the star of the US national team Christian pulisic has officially and this had been rumored for a long long time. But he has officially put ink to paper he has signed with Chelsea football club. He will complete the rest of the season with his club in Germany for Brucie Dortmund. So he will finish out the year in hope in dorms, and I right now for the boondocks league the German league. So he could actually be a part of a championship winning team and then move on. But he will be playing for Chelsea football club next next fall. As the new season kicks off for a record seventy three million American dollars. Whether it translates to it is one of the top ten most. One one of the top ten most expensive transfer deals in English Premier League history. I'm not sure what his contract to look like he will obviously be getting a raise. But I'm not sure how much he'll get paid compared to some of his counterparts can Chelsea recall him though to their team in during this time. So what of times on a player is alone doubt? You can recall them, and you have to pay a fee like you have to pay. Do we know his feet like a late fee? You know, something like that. But. I do not believe they will recall him. Well, would be shot. Granted they are do have forty three points compared to Liverpool's fifty four point. So it's what Christian postage would not play for them this year. Yeah. He I'm just I'm just trying to read off if they wanted to maybe due to win games and win the Premier League. I don't think. Yeah. I don't know. What is contract? I am. I be written in his contract that they they cannot for whatever reason recall him from his loan because he's still playing Dortmund. But now he's officially a Chelsea player. Playing on loan Dortmund set of Dortmund player. But I guess with that comes it. Honestly, it's something that. I don't know Trach. She'll. Yes. Like dortmund? Because a lot of times they don't sell them in the winter because they're a team like Dortmund is trying to win their league..
