"And it's just kind of annoying. It's just annoying. I was watching, I was watching last night's subway series game one. There's four of them. There's another one tonight in Citi Field two and Yankee Stadium in August. And I'll never forget. I went to the first ever one of them. I do believe I kind of remember because it was 26 years ago. Michael K mentioned that on the broadcast, 26 years ago when inner league play began that. A quarter century and by the way, I still hate it. I love it. Imagine that man. I like it. What do you dislike about it? Now that there's no DH, I mean, there's no, it's a universal DH that I always thought it was. I always thought it was cool that the first time teams would play each other from the weeks in the World Series. That was cool. That was a fun element of Major League Baseball that other sports didn't have. Or the fact that the Red Sox played the braves and the Yankees play the Dodgers and the White Sox play the cubs and the angels play the Dodgers and the Yankees play the mets icon to dig it. There's nothing special about it anymore. It was cool when it was every once in a while. Now it's just called progress. Chris, it's called progress. No. Sometimes progress isn't great. Well, 26 years ago, I do believe Dave Maliki. You remember him? TJ? I do. It's always looked like you needed to buy a vowel. Very, very few last names begin with the letters ML, but Dave Maliki, I think shut out the Yankees. And Yankee Stadium. I think I went to the first one. It was on a Saturday. I think it was. I don't remember what day of the week it was, Mike. But I believe I was there. I think he'd be Dwight Gooden. Did the Yankees throw Dwight Gooden in the first Yankees mets game? I think that might have happened. He 26 years ago. Wait a second. You're talking about, I thought the mets won that game. They did. Oh, I thought you. Dave Maliki. I got the Yankees out and the Yankees, I think, through Dwight. Yeah, I think it was with 6 O that game. I think it was. Yeah, it popped up during the game. So, you know, and the Yankees did win the ultimate. Yeah, you wouldn't like the last one. No, the World Series. They actually faced each other in the World Series. True. Kind of in the same way that we believe North Carolina has ended the conversation with duke. Forever. So I have to counsel against that a little bit because there's still a conversation here. Good lord, 22 years later in the well, yeah, we beat you in the World Series. It's kind of stale. We're not game last night in the worst way. I was so frustrated with so angry the way the Yankees were playing. Metz looked good. How good is Pete Alonso? How good is peace? He wants his favorite Alonzo. He should be. Because he just he's fired up. He's screaming at the dugout, he's he's full of energy. I love this team. I love this team. They have heart and every game you actually feel like there's a chance they can win. And not before that was not the case. Buck pushed the buttons better than Aaron Boone last night. I don't know if you saw any of this last night, Christopher. But why do I care about the mets and Yankees? Well, you don't follow baseball anymore. It's the Red Sox are in last place in the American League east now. By the way, ever since his hashtag of the energy is about to shift. Oh my goodness. It just went right down the tubes. But at any rate, last night, yanks have an opportunity to tie the game. And send to the plate, none other than Joey Gallo. Against Adam ottavino and buck comes out and goes, okay, I'll go to my closer one out early. And bringing in Diaz, Edwin Diaz, who is closing in on Geraldo's Chapman's record. Strikeout rate, right? For strikeout rate, pretty striking out over 51% of the batters he's facing. And I think Chapman one year struck out 52% of the batters he faced. And so setting up Joey Gallo against Diaz, all I thought of was that line from the untouchables were bringing a knife to a gunfight. And sure enough, Diaz is awesome. I mean, Diaz strikes Gallo out and the Yankees had one more shot in the 9th to tie the game in a three run lead and couldn't. It's just intense baseball, man, when two teams and two of fan bases are sitting right next to each other, one met one Yankee. It's great. Husbands and wives. It is families that. And it's great to see buck doing so well, man. Yeah. I love that guy. Plus the mets really because I'm pretty loyal to my team. There was probably a whole ten years where I just baseball was third and I didn't really care because of my team. When your team's good, you just love baseball, man. I know that. Might say the double header a few days ago. I said watch 21 innings of baseball. I love it. Buck showalter told a great story that Michael K retold last night is that when the Yankees in spring training went buck was the manager there in the early 90s that George Steinbrenner had must win games against the mets and the Red Sox in spring training. Wow. That buck would go up to the veterans who were like, I'm not getting on a bus all the way going to play the mets in the Red Sox. And he's like too bad. These are must win games, the bosses. And then the Tampa Bay, when Tampa Bay came in because George's second home was in Tampa, those became must win games too, and then buck according to K pauses and goes, George never really gave me a list of anybody that we could actually lose to anyway. And I thought of that last night would have been a George Steinbrenner 5 alarm fire. The way they played, but it's fun. I'm happy for you guys. Well, I mean, your baseball season's over. So are you going to be on the Red Sox going to be sellers next week? What do you think? Sell off a valdi to somebody? I don't even care anymore. It's so sad. Do you need a hug over there? Do you know how many states? July 26th to the 20 7th. Happy birthday, Adam chud win. Yes. Happy birthday Adam. Oh, what up? July birthdays. I love it. Let's talk about fun stuff that matters. Is that right? I thought that's what we were doing. What? Baseball. Neither of you are winning the World Series. Who cares? Oh. Okay, Nostradamus, thank you. Do you want to take that? Well, if he knows so much, then give me that mega million number then, since you know these things, nobody won that last time. I got this number. You guys got New York and I got the field. We good? I'll take it. I'm gonna do it. I mean, I'm always gonna ride with my crew. So you're giving them two? You know what I'm saying?

"Lead by major league baseball which is about to expire and yet nobody believes this guy's coming back so but robert certainly didn't sound like he expects him back anytime nobody but but in order to extend this leave of absence where he by. The way is getting paid. They have to get permission from the players union. And i'm not so sure the players union this is this is putting them in a pajau. I like the way throw in here. we go. Here's a volley for you. Ball's in your court. Now what are you going to do. Are they know then. Major league baseball suspend them or as a team get to suspend them or what happened. Here this is going to be an interesting interesting situation with this guy. Who by the way. Isn't you never had a good track record. As far as you know personal relationships. I mean we all know dating dislike between him and coal and we heard it everywhere you know. Listen it's cleveland. Got rid of them arizona. I'll tell a story. The great lakes kevin towers was a friend of mine. He was a general manager of well. He drafted bauer with the i his first pick and he said to me robert. This is the most arrogant jerk. I've ever met in my life. You realize he gets on the mound the first day and he's throwing to our all star catcher montero and he's shaking them off every pitch he goes. He's a rookie in his first game. Now some would call that confidence but but he goes. We couldn't wait to get rid of this guy you know so but that doesn't negate the talent and it's interesting and he's also getting some interesting to see if the players allowed association allows it to continue. Its because he's still going to be getting paid you know and it once again begs the question. The the mets hired a general manager jerry porter on whom they clearly clearly did not do enough due diligence. Okay in a completely unrelated. This is not what aboutism this is. Just the theme of what i'm talking about. Which is due diligence. Okay the yankees never questioned. What garrett the you know the the uptick garrett cole once it got to houston and robbery i said this to you the other day protocol about houston houston is like. It's chinatown jake. You know how many bad stories in baseball run through houston. I i know that there was a clubhouse guy coming up with some concoction was was spidey. Spider tack okay in anaheim. But it's just it. Ver lander goes to houston and his spin rate. Goes off the chart after already. Great career okay. Calls a really good pitcher before he gets to houston. Now he turns into garrett. Cole charlie morton another one right and all i'm saying is if you're gonna if you're going to shell out three hundred million dollars okay. Maybe they could've asked a few more questions. Because robert i know you you watch the yankees very closely okay. Nobody can watch coal over the last month and even suggests he's the same pitcher. He was before baseball scare. We'll get to this in a minute before baseball. Scared these guys straight nor. Have you noticed numbers on geraldo chapman since they did the you. I guess you're suggesting that a twenty two. Era is bad boy. What a cynical person. You are by the way who thought that the knicks would have a better year than the yankees about that. Think about that the the yankees have that that is such a poorly constructed team it is. I'm sorry cashman's a friend but it's such a poorly can stri- okay. So here's the thing about. Let's talk 'cause i now call. It's it's it's it's kind of mean but it's not that mean i do call garrett cole spidey then in parentheses tak-man spiderman okay. A month ago tallow about. When was that sports illustrated cover on what pitches. Were doing like six weeks six weeks. Five six okay. All right okay and robert will. It was presented like the biggest scandal in baseball and biggest threat to the games integrity since steroids were for sluggers okay. They've corrected this in a month. Okay this is a sport. And again i i. I've no rob manfred for long before he became a i write forever. Lbj cup so people was going to the tech for. I'm not okay. I've done. He's he's an old upstate new yorker the way i okay and there's this idea that nothing he does nothing. Baseball does but wall. And i've talked about this for years. Baseball is always held to a higher standard. Okay they robert. They clean this up in a month. Yes i think we'll also they were having a horrible. I mean the offenses were so bad because of this stuff. What was the last time everybody talked about how much everybody's striking out. Oh i know when they scared the pitcher straight and now what what's happened. Since then robert otani hitting home runs everybody hitting home runs and nobody can wait for the homerun derby and in denver next week and also the you know the pitcher saying well hitting more batters hitting battles before them with the tacky stuff. Come on about as of always been hit mean. It'd be was suddenly suddenly. You lost all your control and everything. Come on you know. That's it's but. I think it's a good thing i gotta tell you. I think it's a good thing by the way athletes adapt athletes. That's always they make. They make the adjustments. They will adapt they always have. They always will so. And i think we're going to see you know. At least i think better well sort of to a point because of the way the game has changed anyway. But i wouldn't say something about baseball for a second. You know mike. We always heard the term east coast bias. And i'm bicoastal living most of the time now in la. And i understand. It's not really a bias. What is it has to do with the time. Change it just does i mean people aren't up on the east coast mostly to see the games on the west coast that much and i have to tell you no matter how you would state. The baseball isn't in baseball and california is great right. Now you've got five teams. Every team in california is over or at five hundred everyone..

"Loss hurts because this team needs wins so desperately and they're playing a bad twins team and they were finally hitting probably mostly because twins. Pitching is terrible but they have. It's like the the momentum theory right. Like i think there is momentum in team sports and you can get on a good rolling get bad role. The yankees have been on a bad role. Maybe a series sweep of the twins were just only positive. Things happened guys. Hitting home runs stanton. Looks like he's starting to feel it a little bit again. The pitching was all right. Maybe that's a momentum thing but then even though geraldo chapman. I'm not worried about him. That's momentum stopper blowing a game like that. I don't think so because you have an off day going out going to philly you going against her already. Dvd's there there's like. Something's happening over there too. I think when you walk out of the clubhouse. You're if you're if i'm on the team on like what what What you get. Shell shocked but it doesn't change what happened like you should have won that game and unfortunately the guy who's been the most consistent player on your team for the entire season had a bad day had a bad day one guy literally one guy had a bad day and that happens so as a team when i'm looking at that and the bats are still going. I'm still feeling good. I'm still carrying that in to wherever you know it's just it's one guy. You can almost chalk that up to just fluky circumstances all right. Well let's start with is number one. I freaking hate. Josh donaldson calls out to calls out. He's always been at check. Seo when he was he's always been very capable. Yeah i mean. His twitter handle is bringer of rain. If you if you name yourself bringer of rain urine a-hole i don't know if it was always that but it was that when i remember when he was in toronto just murdering the yankees when he went is so i was looking at his twitter account last night too and he he. He essentially mocked his manager on twitter. It was like the only posted he's had in a while. Rocco baldelli hasn't been on twitter at awhile team essentially mocked his manager in like a video by putting his his Josh donaldson face on on many from austin powers was freaking strange. And you know it was like a funny thing but it's like it's still your manager like in season. It's a weird thing to do but delhi hadn't been on twitter since april felt a need to respond to it in like with like a little bit of a power. Move in the sense that like. Who do you work for. It was just it was. It was just weird that debt like that. A current player would mock their manager. Completely out of nowhere is thousand. Yes i don't know man. I feel like today's players have no problem mocking manager. So he's but he's he's like he's an older guy in the league. It was just it was out of context and it was a strange came out of nowhere. It fill. It felt like and your team is terrible so It was just a weird thing to me. It just looks like that guy is just an asshole. He's just a dick. And i have a feeling everybody thinks that yeah end. Part of it is because he's he's been he. I mean he's been hurt but he's been good for the large part of the last seven years when he's been murdering the yankees so that's number one if if you're just a terrible baseball player it's hard to hate you because you're not going to hurt my team. But he's been hurting the yankees. So that's why. But then he does stuff like like you just outlined and then he calls out garrett cole for his spin rate dropping coincidentally after the league is starting to crack down on all the illegal substances and unfortunately even though he went over five in the game against cole he gets the last laugh off. Chapman of the series with the game tying home run. It's like if if it had to be anyone donaldson's the last one in that lineup. I wanted to see tie the game right there. And and he he calls out coal fairly or unfairly. I encourage you to listen to the a podcast. I did on wednesday with stephanie epstein. Who co wrote the article on dot com really fascinating the the information that they gathered from all these players around the league many anonymous sources because no one wants to attach their name to this stuff. Even though the more we learn it's like ninety percent or more of the league is doing is using illegal substances and it's like sort of inherent in the game where it's not just pitchers going out of their way to come up with these concoctions. Teams are inventing these concoctions. The training staff is helping them develop them. They're using the editor traffic cameras to assess how that substance works versus another substance like. Oh this substance a gives you a hundred more. Rpm's on your fast. Bolden substance. Be so we're going to go substance it's like. Have you ever been to the doctor. A or b b. Okay a a or c. How they're getting to this level. It is insane. Baseball never ceases to amaze me with how much they will go to cheat. And that's that's that's what it is with this pitcher illegal substances and colds getting cold out called out for it fairly or unfairly. He seems to have become the face of this for baseball. He's he's also he's also not running from it either. I mean he's for all intensive purposes non-answer minutes to the spider now the spider tax stuff. When when he was when he was talking about it he he knows like he was he was in non that he's in the. There's a lawsuit that's happening with the the clubhouse guy from angels and he's in on that too so it's not. This is one of those things that i have a couple of opinions on this people. Talk about this fans talk about this. Like oh it's happening for years like shut up. Turn the other cheek like it's fine. It's happening for years and to a point that's fine yes. It has been happening. Pine tar the the rosin bag with the frog. clay buckled. Look like.

Josh donaldson toronto ninety percent garrett cole stephanie epstein twitter Chapman Rocco baldelli wednesday cole donaldson today last night april Shell stanton one guy geraldo chapman five delhi

"Other people in baseball is no different. So phrasing this is highlighting an issue that baseball has been pointing out for the last. I don't since Derek since essentially since Derek jeter retired is that there is no face of baseball if if this was happening during Trevor Bauer. That's for sure we'll we'll have all the old walled. Interim you know basketball takes for for whether you like them or dislike them. You know. The last dance is out and we're talking about Michael Jordan. Time Lebron James is the face of basketball whether you like him or not and Lebron James for all accounts is a very well-spoken person. I don't necessarily agree with everything. He says ailerons great. He's impressed me a lot in the very well-spoken guy. His era dictator president. Yeah Well he just in general like he speaks out like he he does haven't watched the last dance but the big knock. I'm Michael Jordan played was more Republicans. Buy Shoes to like. He didn't never took really a political stance. He pretty neutral for whatever his beliefs were and Lebron James now has taken a side he has. He has formulated wells. Well thought out response to social issues and he's and he's the face basketball. Baseball does not have that and football. I would argue. Not that they're being Affected currently but the NFL commissioner has a face like he does put out information and face. Yeah he's got a fe as he got. Got A scam Mug at least one knows. Yeah I don't know I don't know who you would consider the face of football probably Tom Brady For sure also another well-spoken person very calculated in what he says so has football players. Speak you ever talk except for just being on the watch commercial watch. Yeah you always get your voice. Sounds like it's very it? Sounds like our podcast Westwood? Sound like very robotic and in a monotone. But don't you see the like baseball? There is no face a baseball. Like nobody's taking the lead. Tony Clark needs to come forward and just be the be the guy that tells everybody. Look this is the messaging stick with it. And I've seen guys on twitter former players kind of attacking Blake Snell not for what he's snapped for his his opinion but just for the messaging that sending to everybody like you're making the players Soun- terrible right now because it's all about money when everybody's out of work right now you. Can't you know the message needs to be do? You can't get your four million dollars instead of eight million dollars for being on SUV. Revered vibe Boohoo Blake exactly exactly. This is not a good. It's not a good way to phrase it in the world like be and the the problem is the face. I think the promise the face of baseball like the face of baseball should be Mike Trots best player. He's in a semi. That's not his personality. Just like Clayton Kershaw. It's not Clayton Kershaw personnel either. They're very similar. They just want to do their thing. They're clearly both like good people and they just want to show the ballpark and and go home at night that the opposite and Bryce Harper. Who's very August? He's very brash. And he's almost he's not diplomatic. He's not you know I haven't heard him speak all that much but when you do hear him speak it. Sounds like he's just he's he's not calculated what he's saying he's just saying and that's great like it's you get unfiltered information but I don't know if the base of baseball needs to be off the cuff remarks from you're not gonNA guy. Bryce Harper is not even top to your major leaguer anymore. I mean he's an above average player but he's always popularity but I feel it's going to start winning as well. I feel like he's been talked away in Philadelphia and that he's not as in the in the limelight as you once was although neither my own perception but like see Jake Jake Arrieta always in Philly so like no one cares kind of. We haven't seen anybody since Derek jeter. Who's had a national presence? Just as far as media is concerned? And he's in the major market. I mean who's in New York? Who's in New York right now? You have Aaron judge. Who's essentially young and quiet. You've got stanton who doesn't say much you know there's not. There is no face of baseball. That's got a major platform that can say. Look we WANNA play. We wanted to be safe. Who wanted to be fair? And then you have a whole team in Houston to cheaters did you. Did you see that Burner Geraldo Chapman Account? That responded to Jose altuve Jose altuve. They came out and said you know. We're not gonNA play for these terms and are all this Chapman's burner count. Said you'd better not warm enough to basically dicey up. It was very good foul the real winners and I hate to phrase it that way but the real winners of the whole krona virus thing or the Astros because no one cares about the scandal anymore. Because everyone's got bigger fish to fry but I feel like and and when we get back to baseball and I'll just talking about to a friend about this. When we get back to baseball there was going to be excited to have baseball. And they're not gonNA want to be like wake is we need to remember to shame these people which we need to like the. Astros are still despicable shameful. Humans especially Bregman out. I mean I. I'm a little more neutral not today but dislike that little punk and his allies and just like this. The way is just awful so we need to remember to not and even like I know just in Berlin who was giving some of his some of his like four thousand dollars a month salary or whatever they were given the players. He was given that away to charity. That's great and I like Justin Verlander. But it's like don't everyone still continues to act on the pitching side that they didn't know what was going on or that they weren't affected by it didn't help them. It's like no one has really been honest. Korea was honest for like a minute about it and then also spouted off about another play like didn't know all the facts. It's like the facts that you guys are cheaters. Just like stop. Just stop there so it's been really disappointing. I feel like on thing on the Justin. Berlinger could be that of face of baseball. I mean he's been dealing for ten years. He's got a platform. She is on the cheater team he never really owned up or like especially as the pitcher. You could just be like look. Yeah we know we got helped by this. We knew it was going on. Like no one's GONNA CARE. Nearly as much as a hitter. You could taken that bullet and taken the higher but not. No one chose really do that. So yeah I mean for landers good ver- lander he's been in Detroit. I mean not not not the biggest market Houston. They had for the last couple years. They've been front and center in Baseball. Glory whether it's good or bad I mean they've been on a national stage. They play all the Sunday night games. You burland could be. The face. Wife is very famous model actress. Whatever you want. Consider her and he has a face to which is important. He's gotTa face. It's not the best looking face but it's you know it's there so he could be. It could be the face of you know at least the front and center face a baseball somebody needs to to take those reigns like Derek. Jeeter left a huge void when he retired You know leaving New York now. He's a Miami Miami's basically a got married to the Chagrin of all of us. Mary male isn't without did get married. You know he'd his. Mary ended his or her name but he ended his long run of actresses and models and starlets. Hollywood starlets so he really end of an era left baseball got married here. We hardly knew Ye. Well you got to get married at some point. Maybe you don't have to but you you could. I did so packed it in just pack ice. I mean I was what shelf but somebody shelf you. Keep your stones and your manhood on a shelf or is it just like tucked away and like a box now. We have a side drawer there in there. Somewhere there in a little glass case got got it and so moving on moving on. We've got this my former conference. I went to Northern Illinois University the mid American conference. Some of you might know match football Tuesday Wednesday football. No no everybody knows that on on the great gambling fodder the sixty fifty football game on a Tuesday evening but Mac came out three days ago. Basically said that starting in twenty twenty one the conferences eliminating the postseason tournaments for baseball softball. Men's and women's soccer and tennis women's Lacrosse and field hockey. Don't have strong opinions on the field hockey but the baseball and softball one is Is a little disturbing just from former player? Would he got on well? Field Hockey is such a strange sport. It's like they're running around with an upside with an umbrella holding it by the end. And they have these weird goggles on and they just whack the ball and try to hurt each other. It's just a fascinating sport. That's what I have on field hockey. Yeah as far as like the conference play. That seems like a strange decision. Like why what do you think the reason for doing it? It's it feels strictly monetary To me that they're just trying to save some money. You know you save money on the conference semi save money on travel. I know there's been. It's been on twitter that there's conferences baseball conferences debating moving to a normally in baseball. You play a four three or four games on the weekends. But they're talking about three game sets flying in on Saturday morning a double header flying out Sunday night after you play single game on Sunday so basically cutting down on the travel costs It's monetary us. They just want to save some money and doubleheaders be the worst when robotic Dan's enslave humanity and fifty years. There will be no doubleheaders or actually. There'll be double headers for everyone every day. Defense how we feel. So if you do your work then there will be no doubleheaders but if humans revolt and there'll be double headers every day doubleheaders are the worst. How do you feel about doubleheaders? I hear so I have A. I have a different opinion. When you're when you're a guy who's not an everyday starter. Doubleheaders might be great. 'cause I might be the time you get in the game but as a player and an everyday guy a hate doubleheaders. I never WANNA play 'em Especially the day-night doubleheader. Now if you're planning to back to back seven inning doubleheaders fine. I'll knock those out. But if you gotTA play at noon nine inning game comeback at seven point nine inning game. No way actually that better. I like the day night better because it's just leave corn routines you kinda like have a nice meal in between. I liked the you have like the real the night game. It's like the day game is like prep for the real game which I always love from Nike Games. Obviously but it's very different as a kid because the kid used to have more on that day if it's nice out in college if it's cold out like if you're in a mid Atlantic school or like one type school where it's just miserable until like the last week of the season doubleheaders so terrible especially as a pitcher you're out there shivering the whole time and it's unpleasant. I mean we all have to understand. There's a lot of things that we love about baseball. I mean I I love. Baseball was a great thing in my life. It still is obviously not as a player doubleheaders were just. Were not one of them. I mean again when I was a kid there. Great it's more time in the sun with your buddies. Whatever in pro ball in college they just suck as a pitcher. They just suck you just standing around a.
