"Devises live from this radio studio. A here at the WGN broadcast complex initially ain't going to be at the socks game. But that's been postponed for tomorrow. We'll be out there at the rate. We'll be at the rate and then back here in the studio at the end of the game because we go right to the last Blackhawks home game. And we were at the second last Blackhawks home game last night. And we apparently broke Lauren Lonzo at the game. She had to go to run if she went out with us after and, you know, if you roll with Roe Conn there's a little bit of an after after after after after a long night, we lived at the United Center this season going to miss it. I know and I were saying that we were walking out of their last night. It was like it's like I'm really gonna miss being there. I might go to borrow the it's just been it has been a, you know, if your hawks fan. And those people who were there every night and are those nineteen thousand s. But they you know, it's been a wild emotional ride this season. No question. And not not not a happy ending to this season. But there's hope for next year. And there's this this sense of just the fraternity of being there and watching that game cheering you guys. And last night. There was you know, I don't want to get to Saxe KiKi hawks geeky here because we got a lot of stuff to get to today. But last night when the Esposito brothers took the ice for one one last. What is when worshiped one more? She'll get that. Right. Eventually they've only been doing it for five years when they took the ice. Tony Esposito war the old molded goalie mask. Oh my God. Look, very pretty Krueger. He did. I was there was terrorism is because it's like how it's just there's such a generational thing. I think only baseball sundry football. But football changes so much. And sometimes you wonder, you know. You wonder if if your parents have passed you wonder, what was your dad really think about today's NFL, but but hockey is very similar, and and baseball's very similar, and it's just it's kind of it's hard to to kind of put into words how emotional those kinds of moments. Are we we connect generations like that as he did last night at the United Center moment, and in the ice would like to see in a lot more wins is here, but it was certainly a a beautiful night. And listen, the we're going to have the the hawks summer extravaganza in July, and then it all starts again September four. So so you went September see in September. Upset us. I wasn't the end of. Oh, gosh. Reminds you that well the season being over, you know, gosh this January weren't high hopes, but they turn things around. And it was just like, wow. You thought this team if they did make it to the postseason watch out? Yeah. Out. Yeah. Well, now, the one scientist shoot out that was good. All right. And you make friends out there. Right. Because you got friends seatmates and other people that you get to know through the games guys. Go have a drink with at a bar, whatever in between periods. And it's like it is it's like we'll see it L September. We could make plans, but you just never do. So, but it's always great to be out of the hawks. We're gonna miss you. Especially my bartenders Galen Kelly. If I could just if I could just standing this you thank gale and Kelly, my bartenders, I would have to personal bartenders. Like, you do how you order. It's sorta like hand signals there's no actual communication, and then she just like and she put touches her ear, and she looks at you and with one eye, and then I'm like, what are you doing? And then all of a sudden I have a drink and drink and everything's done. And Gayle just she's speaking so true because I've sort of adopted the language from and last night I like from twenty feet away. I single Heli next thing. I know I had a week in my hand. And it's the right drink. It's the right trade. Yes. Just got shut off the wall. Kind of hang out. Because he watches this every day. Yeah. Chattanooga Wally anyway. We love you. We love you Chicago Blackhawks organization and chance to think all last night as we were leaving. But from the very top on down from from rocky Wirtz. We did get a chance to say goodbye to tonight. And and hugging he goes, you're come Friday. Right. And I'm like, I gotta go. But there was to John McDonough to Jay Blunk to Pete has and all the people all the way up and down the line. Just amazing amazing folks, and it's gonna be fun their fundamental what? And it's just great to where the the red and the black when you're out there. All right. Coming up. Listen to this. We're gonna find out where we're awaiting a final. I think. I'm just looking at you. Now, did they get the DNA check yet yet? Oh, sorry. I thought you were talking to me, you know, anybody can answer that we're waiting to see if this fourteen year old boy that has been identified in Cincinnati is potentially boy missing here for seven years family's been looking for him. Mazing amazing story we're going to get the latest on that coming up in just a moment. Dr Willie Wilson is here kingmaker. He is the in this case queenmaker, but he's a kingmaker in Iran irony is, he's not he would be a Burger King maker except from the McDonald's organization. We're also talked to, you know, the Chicago law firm is handling the seven thirty seven max. Situation in terms of lawsuits. We're gonna talk to the lead lawyer on that. Why are they involved in these international crashes, and what does this mean for Boeing seven thirty seven Maxwell doesn't mean for the families? There is a there's a family here that lost their daughter and sister in the crash unbelievable story so heartbreaking horrifying story. They can't bring anything home to remember her. It's a. So we'll we'll tell you that story. And and what does this really mean for people who are flying? Right. And what does this mean for Boeing, whereas in Boeing's, Chicago company? I mean, how does this because it does look like, and there may be some questions as well about the FAA and the new regulations the post 2017 regulations of of where the airline manufacturers got to guard their own hen house, and that's a big there's a big question there. And then and then if you live in the western suburbs. You know, this story is coming up in the six o'clock hour, so come back. You can't be here for the moment. The ripper crew murders from one thousand nine hundred eighty s. Well, one of the four who were convicted of as many as seventeen murders of women one man was shot during this whole crime spree, but seventeen murders almost all of them. Sexual satanic murders with women with horrifying things happening during the murder. And one of those guys has been released from prison and is one was executed. But the guy who was executed. His brother has been released from prison is now moved to the western suburbs. And there is a huge issue with that we're going to we're going to introduce you familiar with the story. We're going to tell you exactly what this because it's one of the most infamous cases in Chicago history. And it is related in the craziest way to genuine gase. We all know, the gentleman gase story, but this is the the mastermind behind this worked for gays. It's crazy wait till you history. And it's coming your way at six o'clock right here. All right. In the meantime, Kim tells what's coming up at the bottom of the hour road time it's taking for actor. "Like, that's what you really need a date driving to or through New York City part of the one hundred seventy five billion dollar twenty twenty budget passed by the New York state legislature over the past weekend. Includes the nation's first congestion pricing plan. The plan. This is going to charge you a premium for driving in the city's central business district. Anything anything below sixtieth street in Manhattan. That congestion fee is expected to raise some fifteen billion dollars. That's right with a b. Now, they say the details are still being refined. It's expected in twenty one drivers of cars. Will pay between twelve and fourteen dollars. There was a study last year that suggested truckers would pay a flat. Twenty five dollars per day. But the budget includes wording that suggest the fee will be very based on the most congested time of the day. No word of other tolls are going to be included in the fee. That is charged to truck drivers. Even the taxis will be build two dollars and fifty cents per ride. The ride hailing services like Uber and lift will be build two dollars seventy five cents for each trip. Yeah. The plan is the first in the country. They tell us similar to the one that's been in place for years in London. It's it's trying to reduced traffic. At the busiest section of Manhattan, and at the same time, raise money to repair the subway system, and for other mass transit organizations. And that's the thing that really irks a lot of people is charging the people using the roadways, but the money's not going for the most part a good chunk of that's going for other projects. Like, your mass transit. Now last year. There was a mention of this sort of a plan being discussed for Seattle. Yeah. They're talking about it for Los Angeles and San Francisco. Yeah. Portland, oregon. They're all studying the possibility of these kind of fees. Opponents of the New York City plan say this is really just going to cause traffic problems. Elsewhere in the city, which kind of makes sense, you're trying to force people to not come in to the main arteries of the city, but. What did you expect? So I guess they want you to park outside and then take some sort of mass transit or something else to get into the busiest areas, but we shall see. That's that's the plan moving forward, but gut for those who run on a regular basis into New York. Twenty five bucks. A pop those numbers really start to add up if trying to remember didn't spaceman had a pretty pretty regular run a designated going into New York City almost every night. Not sure if he's still on that bit or not, but. All right. Look at twenty four past the hour. We last evening touched on the story of a state trooper in Illinois that was killed last Thursday. Hit my big truck. It's called later in the morning and mentioned another police officer state trooper that was killed over the weekend, which I hadn't seen that yet. But. This is the third in Illinois already this year yet hit and killed in accidents. This past day, they released visitation and the funeral or set for the Illinois state police trooper in this case, the trooper was killed when a wrong way driver struck his squad car. Thirty six year old trooper Gerald Ellis. The visitation will be this afternoon. Thursday afternoon funeral would be Friday morning that the college of lake counties James lumber center for the performing arts in Gray's lake LS will have a private burial. They say this was actually early Saturday this occurred along interstate ninety four there in northern Illinois. Again, he's the third state trooper to die in a crash so far this year. State police say Ellas grew up in McComb graduated from western Illinois university served with the US army reserves than joined the state police in two thousand eight survived by his wife and two young daughters. So sad. All right. So the numbers just really discontinued add up law enforcement around the country. The talk about shutting down the southern border. This week is now rapidly rolling towards the close. It hasn't happened yet. But there's already some some real issues that are taking place when it comes to the movement of commercial traffic along our southern border commercial trucks crossing the Passo area international bridges. Out of Mexico. Are facing waits of up to twelve hours which is causing production problems in Juarez factories. It could slow manufacturing operations here in the United States. According to industry leaders. That problem could get worse on weekends. Because one of the bridges is being closed for commercial shipments on Saturdays because the federal border agents are reassigned to help process all these illegals that are seeking asylum here. The director of operations in a partner in the specialized harness products as I've never seen this happen to this level. Now, this is an El Paso company that makes wire harnesses at the Juarez factory for construction in recreational vehicles. Go Garcia said the company's trucks have waited up to twelve hours to cross the border. Since the administration announced they would reassign at least seven hundred fifty customs and border protection. Officers moving them away from the ports of entry. So that could help process all these migrant families. The latest decision to close the cargo lanes and the lot at the bridge of the Americas is only going to make matters worse. He says it's ridiculous that this is doing what this is doing to business and industry. So truck drivers waiting in line until the trucks get across sometimes that means bringing food to the drivers bringing new drivers. To relieve the ones who have been in line for a long time. You realize on any given day the clock's ticking. This has been going on for several days at truckers waiting anywhere from six to twelve hours across the bridges. There. We get a news update toll-free around the country. It's eight eight eight eight six zero eighty.

But as I look at this case can leaves a tear in your eye in a lump in your throat. Thinking this guy when push came to shove decidedly tried to stop a wrong way driver from from killing some people that could have happened last night with Michael cook. And I seventy one, but it actually happened in the officer as well as the suspect to the guy was driving the wrong way died in that crash too. And it always seems like it's the trooper or it's an individual an innocent person that dies when there's a drunk driver. "Driving the wrong way. I need to get on the highway in drive straight into him. What's the worse that can happen? Well, this is the worst that can happen. And this is why this story at least has a happy ending. This past weekend, Saturday, Illinois early or late Saturday early Sunday morning, trooper Gerald Ellis was actually finishing his watch up is on his way home, and he's in his state issued cursor when a call comes out. It's like three thirty in the morning. This is on I ninety four in Illinois. In rural Illinois. And call comes out that there's a wrong way driver ninety four. And so he gets on the highway sees the vehicle gets over crosses over and goes head on to try and force the sky off the road and just behind the trooper was a young woman and the family she was traveling where she babysits for a bunch of kids in the car, and he trooper all is probably had no way of knowing this. But he was directly ahead of them two lanes over and moved his car into the line to block wrong way driver from hitting the car. She was in. He pastor looked saw that there are kit, and he basically did a maneuver in order to block and allow the driver of the wrong way driver, two T-Bone, his cruiser to take the hit for the citizens and officer trooper Gerald Ellis the Illinois state patrol died from his injuries after doing that thirty six year old guy. Eleven year veteran military veteran. Leaves behind a wife two children to parents and a brother. Is this the when you talk about acts of heroism and heroes the heroes the NC double A tournament here. I heroes LA here about here is in the military guys. It will take a round or take something for their buddies fallen a grenade. So to speak, which to me is is very heroic. This is a different level to me of heroes in it as a split-second decision made to save the lives of people you've never met. Don't even know. I don't think he had any idea that there was a family. There were these little kids in the car behind him when he decided to prevent a wrong way driver from striking traffic head on. But as I look at this case, I can leaves a tear in your eye on a lump in your throat. And thinking this guy when push came to shove decidedly tried to stop a wrong way driver from from killing some people that could have happened last night with Michael cook, I seventy one, but it actually happened in the officer as well as the suspect to the guy was driving the wrong way died in that crash too. And it always seems like it's the trooper or it's an individual an innocent person that dies when there's a drunk driver. A wrong way driver involved that the the offender always walks away walks into prison, but always walks away not really fair is it narrowly fair, but this is the second line of duty death in Illinois, by the way for trooper in two days. So it's awfully tough a state over for those folks out there, can you imagine that you get this call you look up. There's the wrong way driver in your first instinct is to cross over the median and try and take the try and take the car which was successful in doing but losing his life at the same time. It's incredible. What what these? Men and women do an often we hear the bad side of policing. We hear about cops gone bad row. Cops in Illinois state that has Chicago look what happened the jussie smollet thing. And what miscarriage of Justice that whole thing is the misdeeds of the Chicago police at times, probably not in the smell case. But in many others of the Chicago police and yet in the same state, we have acts of bravery and heroism that defy explanation trooper Gerald Ellis. Fortunately, this did not happen last night at twelve oh six today. Anyway, Willie is going to have Dan hills on talking about this. And I'll leave that for him in the hand Dan to talk about two as well. We'll get a news update in and then at the eleven thirty five today on the show. Steven Brill is here is a fascinating author. I kind of skim through the book, I don't have time to read cover to cover stuff anymore, but I skim through it. It was really interesting the takeaways an on how since at least my birth may say like Bill Cunningham. It's all my fault. When I was born America started going downhill, he's a great American. I would contend that people. Like Bill Cunningham, screw things up in America for people like me and in future generations. But. We'll debate that eleven thirty five with Steven Brill. It's called tailspin America's fifty year fall that in my lifetime. We have watched the decline of America. But you know, what like anything in America? "Eight one seven two hundred ninety eight one seven two hundred and I just had a very good. Texter say, hi, Karen. Why would people get a legal separation instead of a divorce? Great question and people sometimes think they want a legal separation because it doesn't sound as bad as divorce. But usually I mean for thirty three years of practicing law. I think I've gotten someone a legal separation maybe twice in my whole career. That's how rare it is. And the only time that you really would do that is number one. Let's just say you had a religious issue, and you didn't want to ever be divorced. And you think that legal separation is different than divorce? And that makes you happier. And makes you feel that you're complying with your religion. That would be one reason number two have to be with health insurance. So this lady that just called in generally speaking. If you're legally separated, you can still say on stay on the group policy of your spouse. Whereas if you're divorced you're not part of the group anymore. Also, I've seen a couples stay buried for purposes of social security benefits. Perhaps there is a benefit to to staying married and getting that person social security are logging in more years. So that technically you're not divorced, and you're really just an issue of illegal separation. But you know, the difference between the two other than those those those things you still have to file in court. You still have it's still an adversary proceeding. You still have to sort it out with the judge if you can't subtle and resolve the disputes you have to go to trial. So it's really the same amount of work as a divorce, but at the end of it, you don't have a divorce, and I tell people, you know, you may not want to be divorced now. But what if you meet somebody, and what if you want to move on with your life? And what if you really do want to get divorced? You're going to have to go through the process all over again, which really makes no sense. So again, most people that come to me wanting a legal separation end up getting a divorce. It's time to take a break now. Yeah, let's go. Steve Cochran show celebrates the most valuable person on the planet. Weekday mornings at seven twenty on seven twenty WGN.
