Getting Things Done with Senator Doug Jones
"I'm Senator Doug Jones from Alabama and here's the truth it all my work in the Senate I have your back and no one else. Sorry, not sorry first of all senator thank you so much for taking the time to do the podcast I would like to start by talking about Kobe nineteen and we're recording this in the middle of July. We knew in February and March, what needed to be done right now one hundred, thirty, eight, thousand people have died projections indicate more than two hundred, thousand people will die by November, cases are rising almost everywhere in the. Country especially in the South and the trump administration is just I don't know how else to say it, but he has just failing in every possible way in managing this pandemic. So what is your opinion? What should we be doing nationally and what should Alabama be doing to combat covert nineteen listen first of all, thanks for having me I really appreciate this opportunity to speak with you. It's good to talk to you. See you again. Let me tell you I think we have to do what I've said all along that we have to do and that is listened. To the healthcare experts listen to the healthcare experts that are the national voices like Dr, Fallacy and Dr Redfield and those that are on top of this, listen to your local healthcare professionals, listen to the statewide healthcare professionals and follow their advice. The problem that we have right now is that clearly we have a lack of leadership from the administration. We have not seen the kind of leadership that we should have from the very beginning of this administration was downplaying it, and then as I think the president realized that we had to shut the economy down which was. His Pride and joy Dan, he started to try to intimidate people too much to open the economy up. He was intimidating protesters in Michigan and elsewhere, and that had a ripple effect around the country. Then it was politicizing the wearing of masks as we learned more and more about this virus it became clear that we needed to wear masks, and then all of a sudden became a political issue. It's not as much anymore, but it's still in places a political issue, and now we're politicizing the opening schools schools. Do you think that Alabama was too quick to Rio Ben? I think we tried to accelerate. The process and I think you know From our standpoint that has had a negative impact on our progress and I think that's why we've regressed. And we've seen a three hundred percent increase. In cases month over month after going the first three weeks of this. At a forty percent club if people would listen to the healthcare professionals, follow the guidelines and understand the world had never seen this virus before like December nobody has the antibodies at that time. Nobody had the immunities and this is a work in progress. We are learning more and more and more about this virus. As we go along, we have no vaccine are therapeutics are getting better. The only way we can stop the spread of this virus is for us to do our part. We're in this together, we need to act like, do you think we need some sort of coordinated national shutdown? To try to get this under control I. think that would be very, very difficult to try to do that in there are places in this country where I think that you wouldn't need to shut down nationally right now if they take some of the precautions, we're a big country where diverse country we have seen the virus spread in different areas I think it would be very, very difficult to try to have any kind of national shutdown but you know a lot of the governors are stepping a lot of them are not and lot of them are seeing their states ravage along the governors. have been stepping up doing the right thing. Our governor in Alabama issued a statewide score. She's the only governor in the deep South that his issue that in fact, the governor of Georgia, which is raging as much as Alabama yesterday issued something banning local officials from issuing a mask order. So damnedest thing I've ever heard of and so I think that the states are stepping up individual beers have been stepping up. I mean. When you have a lack of leadership coming from the administration, you've got to have the local leaders stepping up. So I think we're doing it on a hot spot by. Hotspots state-by-state by state community, mount community basis be tough to do it on a national basis, but there's plenty of spokesman out there illicit from the national level better telling people to wear masks and suggestions and do those things. It's amazing to me how the masks were politicized and I saved a lot on this podcast. But anytime, we politicize something we dehumanize it and I think this is a perfect example. But when you look at deaths, the numbers don't lie. So even if you were the type of person to say you know what? I don't believe in science I think truth and fact is. Relative there's concrete numbers here that are undeniable and do you think that there's any chance that we get this under control while this administration is still in place or do you think that it's going to continue to rage and grow until we have leadership in there that can at least be willing to listen to science? Are we gonNA answer you with a glass half full and I'm going to say I put faith in the majority of the American people to start doing the right thing. They're seeing these numbers to their seeing the lack of leadership they're seeing the numbers in the deaths in. The virus, they're seeing the fact that the average age of someone catching this virus now has gone down fifteen years fifteen years from when we first started to. This is just not a senior's forest anymore. So I'M GONNA put more faith than I guess I have more faith these days in. Awadh. The governors of whatever political party and local leaders and mayors to lead by example, and to do those things necessary. What's interesting to me is that her so many folks in Alabama and we had a problem with folks not wearing masks we still do but the so many people aren't listening to the Reason why you wear a mask they think it is just to protect themselves. I've heard so many people say well, I don't need to wear a mask I may get it but I'm gonNA low risk category. So I'll take my chances. It's not about you. It's about the people with preexisting conditions, the diabetes heart disease that things like that puts them at risk. You could be a symptomatic and spread this disease spread this virus so easy without wearing a mask and you not even know it and putting people at risk. So I'll tell folks down here. Look this is golden rule time. Okay. This is new unto others as you would do unto yourself and so wear the mask for others where the mass for those healthcare professionals that are on the front lines that are just having mental breakdowns these days with all that they are overwhelmed about look I'm going to again go back to your question I'm going to have a glass half full I give a lot of faith in the American people to see where we are at start making these comparisons and see through the like of leadership and start doing the things necessary for themselves.

"Strategy. A stead you've been describing how important Georgia could be in the twenty twenty elections. So what does what happened on Tuesday night? Tell us about what we might expect. I think Tuesday is a signal for both the country and the party's. Things that we might have to expect come November. For one. If elected officials do not proactively prepare. For a election that could be up ended by virus concerns. We might have lines like we saw on Tuesday. If, they're not prepared to count thousands and thousands of absentee in mail in ballots in ways that are unprecedented and presidential history. We might not get results from key states on election night. And even more so about the type of messages that politicians are giving to the public right now. If people don't feel as if going to the ballot box in voting is a process that is equitable and fair to them. It is going to be harder for particularly democratic politicians to tell their base. This is where you should put your energy. This is how you make change. What we saw on Tuesday. Was Not an encouraging scene..

"Okay Jillian. Lillian said the ICU. In Albany Georgia was so packed. Patients are being flown to other cities for care. And that's because what so. Many people got sick so quickly. That's part of it but also the healthcare system in rural America was kind of a mask even before this pandemic began. We have always faced healthcare disparities in rural America. Jacob is a researcher at Mercer University in Macon Georgia not too far from where Lillian lives and he outlined two major problems with rural healthcare. One there's a serious lack of doctors and hospitals and to patients either can't or won't use healthcare. We started with one the shortage over the past fifteen years or so ten percent of all rural hospitals closed and there another twenty to thirty percent that are at risk of closing. There are many many rural counties. That don't have a physician at all. So no no providers whatsoever right. There are some that have not a single physician but if counties do doctor to that's not enough during a pandemic if you have a county that has one medical provider hospital and you have to cases of coverted. And if that one provider became exposed to that patient and wasn't wearing P P. Then they're going to have to self quarantine until they can get their test results back which are slower in rural communities and then you've effectively wiped out the whole medical system in that county by having one or two providers out and if it counties lucky enough to have access to a clinic or a hospital because rural providers both physicians and hospitals operate on such tight. Arjun or quite often a negative margin talking to a lot of my colleagues. They are facing really hard decisions about whether they're going to have to do to be able to make payroll because of the pandemic clinics hospitals have had to cancel non essential surgeries like backer knee surgery. And that's a problem for clinics that are already operating at a loss because those are the procedures that bring in money. There's one clinic that has had to send some nurses home which is ironic. Isn't even quite the right word? We're in the middle of this this crisis where we need all hands on deck. But they're having to send some competent healthcare providers home because they just don't have the volume of services to make payroll in they don't have the resources to stock up on things like PP so they're much less likely to had a stockpile in the first place and they're not able now to purchase all of this additional equipment that's needed in the context of reduced income stream so that's issue number one issue number. Two is the patients. We see problems because we have higher rates of insurance higher rates of poverty lack of reliable transportation and we know that states that did not expand medicaid are disproportionately rural and then even if patients do have access there are some that just. Don't feel comfortable seeing Dr. There's issues of mistrust of the medical community. We have lower levels of health. Care Literacy have lower levels of general literacy all of that plays into medical care being big black box for a lot of people that they don't understand. Don't quite trust. Oh we do also have to say things the way they are. We do still have issues of racism and discrimination within the healthcare setting. We know that early experiences of discrimination racism within the healthcare setting made much less likely to go back and seek care in times of crisis where we're asking individuals to take precautions that they might feel subject them to additional profiling such as wearing a mask in public We're we're really layering on complexity here. That makes it hard for marginalized populations to we're asking so rural patients are less likely to have insurance. Even if they do they might not want to use it. And if they're not going to the doctor they're more likely to have chronic diseases. So we have high rates of diabetes. We have higher rates of attention. We have higher rates of general coronary disease. And so they're more susceptible to the negative effects of cove in Nineteen. And then at the same time you if they don't become infected they're not able to access the primary care they were able to previously to help them manage their diabetes hypertension heart disease and so a lot of very concerned about what this is going to look like in three or four months in terms of regular chronic disease outcomes because care has become a vacuum in this interim still Jacob sees potential for change coming out of the pandemic. He thinks it's an opportunity for states to look at expanding. Access to Medicaid whether that's temporary expansion of Medicaid during this crisis that's one option and right now insurance companies covering virtual doctors visits telehealth. Jacob hopes that sticks around those are things we've been pushing for in rural healthcare for longtime. Because that will give patients access to it but in the short term we're seeing this pandemic play out in rural areas in ways that we're not seeing in other urban areas it does reinforce this feeling that the healthcare system is failing them. I'm worried it'll lead to some more disillusionment with the healthcare system. But at the same time if we're able to support change out of all of this could be an opportunity where they could say okay. This led to change so there was something positive that came out of all this.

"Oh now Albany has one of the highest infection rates in the states and more people have died in Albany then in Atlanta which is a much bigger city. The minister that did the first funeral has since passed three family members in one family have since passed that one sick guest at one funeral has led to a lot more funerals. I- social media has turned into a bitch wary column and so this point you know we've moved to graveside services what we traditionally especially in the south is not a very common thing to have a grave set service. The first funeral we went to doing this virus was a judge whose two brothers his mother and his father. All ministers. That funeral should have been attended by at least three different churches along with all the legal judges. And you know we're talking about. At least a thousand person channel dwindled down to ten people and about thirty people standing by their cars to watch lab on facebook. And we're standing there. And I see his mother tears running down a face and she inhales grieving and says my baby and she's looking around but there's no one that can come up to her and hugger grab our hands so she puts her hands on her husband's shoulder and he breaks into tears. And they're just they're trying to console another and you know the next funeral went to was my classmate. She was an activist here in Albany. Dougherty county what they call a real renaissance woman. We all grew up together and we all went to school together Our parents were civil rights leaders here in Albany together there again at the car about twenty feet away. And I'm standing there and I look over the grave yard and there's three tenths within a fifty yard radius of each other so you have three services going on at the same time and you like a much lower and their game. We're only three people removed to Albany. So you recognize this pastor so and so so that must be sewn so that just died places like Albany Georgia are especially vulnerable. The uninsured rate in Albany's Home County is about double the national average and Georgia unfortunately did not take expansion for Medicaid so therefore you have a disproportionate amount of people that do not have access to adequate healthcare. That means they don't have a primary care doctor. They don't go to the doctor for in and everything. They've grown accustomed to using emergency rooms if there is a knee and our emergency room of course now is inundated with people that are suffering from the virus. The other thing is people don't have access to medications because they hadn't been to a doctor to get that chronic disease under control which could easily be managed. So that's another part that has played with Making Albany a hot spot because you have so many people that have underlying conditions as MMA diabetes high blood pressure that are being exposed without the proper insurance without medical attention the ICU units are full. And they're sending patients to surrounding areas. They had a stockpile of mask gloves. That kind of thing and they went through protective gear six months supply in one week. We've survived floods of ninety four ninety eight tornadoes hurricanes. We've never seen anything like it..

Trump was promoting in a statement today the FDA strongly cautioned against using hydroxy chloroquine or chloroquine to treat cove nineteen outside of a hospital setting or a clinical trial due to risk of heart. Bill that will also help hospitals and provide funding for testing missing from the packages aid for state governments which Democrats were pushing for Republicans. Less so and while we're on the states some of them are opening backup today. Oklahoma is reopening parks and stores are opening up in South Carolina. More states are expected to lift their shelter in place orders in the coming weeks. This as the death toll hit fifty thousand in the United States today. Interestingly the president urged caution at least in the case of Georgia's saying he disagreed. Strongly with the governor's decision to reopen certain businesses but the president's messaging on the matter has been inconsistent at best. "Now even though some things are beginning to reopen there in Georgia today. The bulk of the country is in yet there. We will likely need another short term extension of stay home. Stay safe order. We make a bad move. It's going to set us back. We will not just be flipping a switch going from closed to open here in California where I am. It still could be weeks or even months and in Washington state. It's the same deal where the governor has said. It's way too early to open up and turn back on this successful temporary approach now would be disastrous and as things are closed longer and longer that means more and more. Americans are filing for unemployment since March Fifteenth Twenty. Six million people have filed for unemployment. And while you'd think that they would just sign up and get the money. It's not working out. That way states are way backlogged before the pandemic took an average of two to three weeks for State Labor Department's process unemployment applications. Now we're many weeks into this and still. Some people aren't getting their money. The Highly Alex. Can you hear me? I can hear you? Yeah Lisa Lewis is one of them. She's furloughed from a macy's store in Washington state. I got her on facetime from her condo and Lisa. You've been waiting. How long to get your unemployment check? I I filed march eighteenth so I have five weeks pending all still pending any idea why some people are saying they're filing right now and they're getting it immediately others have a little bit of a delay but but why so long. I have no idea I have heard all kinds of things and then you know they keep promising another date by had heard the people who were part time who had quit their dogs who had been collecting social security to mmediately applied like yesterday the day before and gotten money. So it's extremely frustrating. How are you surviving right? Now that it's been this many weeks you've been on for low. How do you? How do you live? Well I live with my boyfriend and he works for the ferry. So we're able to keep going on. We see obviously varies didn't lose his job And I did have some reserves to keep my bills paid. You know we had done the math from our Because when the store I shutdown macy's hits said that they would keep us on the payroll For those of us who are benefits this is a hugely important thing for us. And then then later a week or so later. Bad News for American workers. Macy's is now furloughing majority of it's one hundred and twenty-five thousand workers starting this week but I had already worked out what that amount would be. Which would have been with the same unemployment either way and easily? Pay My bills and live on that but you know in a week or so. I have another round of bills and in it's GonNa be tight quite frankly. What are they telling you you call in you? Say where's my money? What's your excuse? I have not called in because from day. One we were told. Don't bother to call at that point. You couldn't even call some of the people that we've talked with our at the end of their rope calling the department hundreds of times many say the website continues to crash or that it takes hours to finally get approved CA. I did all online. It went smooth. I had no reason to think that this would happen to me. Thankfully found out. It's happened to other people. I'm not the only one And they keep being promised out. Oh well know. We'll have it fixed. April eighteenth was the big day that they gave us that it was. This all was going to be fixed. It's really really frustrating that the newer people are able to get on and get money right away and they have not fixed it for those of us who've been waiting since Martine. Could nobody can give you a good answer? You filled everything out you. Did everything appropriately. But the money still is incoming correct. There's no answered all just suspending the president signing that massive relief bill into law employment checks going up six hundred dollars for four months. And here's the thing you know. They keep promising us more money in addition to the money that I had paid into unemployment. And I've worked all my life. I never thought it'd be the poster titled So Being Unemployed Ever and you know the owners is extra six hundred dollars and you know those stimulus chat. What's getting me but I feel like when they give us all this extra money and I don't see her. I don't need more broken promises. I need you to fix the parts that needs should have been fixed in the first place. You just want your money the money you put into it Lisa. Abc reached out to the Washington State Department of Economic Security. I wish I had better news. Who are sick in Maryland? They're under siege right now. All of us are here was really rare Stand Lot Dr Elizabeth clayborn doctor to care on the win and Dr Michelle Callahan. All three or in the battle in the emergency department at the Prince George's Hospital Center in all three are six to seven months pregnant. Abc's Rachel Scott got to spend time with three doctors and Rachel leaser three pretty incredible women. Alex these women are absolutely incredible. They all made a pact to stay on the job to continue showing up on the front lines inside this emergency room. Tight net and enroll having girls and this is leading to the show. This is like a new says a little less awesome and they really felt a call of duty. Stay on the front lines. Even though they were going to be getting closer to their due date. It's what resigned or and we WANNA be there either as these. Three doctors inch closer to their due dates. Prince George's county has become the epicenter of the pandemic in Maryland. Have Gone on and we got more busy. I am finding that it's harder to avoid. Asians obviously need to treat everyone. As if you I just record ruin has the virus now. It's important to say the management at this hospital center did give these doctors and option to take an unpaid leave of absence and they are encouraging them to take it one day at a time so they are super supportive but they see this as an opportunity to stay on the front lines to help save lives in this battle against the corona virus and also to help their colleagues out as well so many things. I WANNA know here. We heard from them now a couple of times but I really WANNA know how they're doing day to day. We all feel the pressure. Many of us are staying at home that we're not out in it. They are in it. How are they doing? Yeah Alex really taking this day by day you know being a doctor during this pandemic is hard enough but imagine trying to do that job. Six to seven months pregnant doctors were layers and layers of personal protective equipment to keep them safe But they're really has presented an added challenge for these women as the are expecting. Notice how? I'm getting shorter breath wearing mask all day. Some say they feel like you are suffocating. For Ten to twelve hours a day that or breasts being infected so he just under all of that p. p. e. they were compression stockings right to help keep the swelling down. They're still making all of those frequent trips to the bathroom day. Longest trial is moving kicking. I'm burying it has presented an added challenge of for these women having to continue to work and to do it while also being six to seven months pregnant and getting closer to their due dates. Yeah they they say they've got to be there. They've got to be on the phone line but did any of them. Everything about bailing out. They have they told you. Did they come to a point where they thought? I didn't sign up for this that they they're obviously going through a lot right now and they thought I just can't do this will. These women are also constantly thinking about not only the lives that they have to save but also protecting the life. That's inside of them and I go in for Labor going to test me at anybody tests positive there. There's potential to take my baby for two weeks. So that is huge burden on me a little bit and so they really are evaluating this and weighing their decision every single day. Have a date that I know. I won't be seeing people pass. They're still question about whether I'm going to continue in these next couple of weeks. There is amazing though. Every expectant mother knows that feeling of them kicking butt to think they've also got to be a doctor in that moment and doing the procedure of whatever it is they're doing right does any of this put their unborn babies in danger. Could they be a victim of all of this? We'll expecting mothers nationwide are really at a point where they are facing added concerns. Now we need to minimize time in the room especially. There's more of a risk every time you go into a room to see someone do worry about jeopardizing their health. They worry about jeopardizing. Potentially the life. That's growing inside of their new baby girls and they worry that would just limited data right now on. The facts is just adding to the stress of not only being a mother expecting but also being a doctor that is working so close with critically. Ill patients.

"Hey Good Morning Branch Day. He'll be back on Monday. Today is a very big day in Georgia the day so many of us have been dreaming about when we go freely to wherever we want to go but many. Americans are little unsure. This is the right time. Georgia's reopening parts of its state today Governor Brian. Kemp says he's got to bolster the economy. The entities which I'm reopened or not reopening as business as usual so as today Gyms Herron Nail Salons Tattoo Parlors and bowling alleys and Georgia can reopen and next week restaurants will be able to serve customers in their dining rooms and movie theaters will be allowed to open. Would I do that? No I keep a little longer. I want to protect people's lives. Georgia had over twenty one thousand Kovic nineteen cases and close to a thousand people have died. Abc Stevo soon. Saami is in Georgia and Steve. You've got to give a reality check here. How much of Georgia is really? GonNa be reopening. Today that's a really good question because it depends on who you ask certainly cannot in conscience say that I agree with his order and I will continue to use my voice as mayor of Atlanta to ask people to continue to stay home if you ask residents and business owners in the liberal cities and counties near where I live quickly made the decision you know for our staff and our community our customers that the right decision would be not open. Most of the restaurants aren't opening for dining at the closest. Anybody Beats. Your Group is eleven feet but outside of the city the owner of the Gold Cup Bowling Center. In Warner Robins Georgia tells us he's able to open one of his locations safely. You're going to see a few more restaurants gyms even bowling alleys opening. I never feel comfortable if anything happens to any of my clients it's now somewhat politically incorrect for many businesses in the Metro area to open. But at the same time you know you understand the reasons for some of the businesses that are opening doing so I mean our businesses down by five percents And it's just not sustainable. They've been out of work for weeks. Their employees haven't been paid. Some people are worried legitimately about losing their businesses. You Know Steve. The one thing that really stands out here it's gyms hair nail salons tattoo parlors bowling alleys eventual a restaurants and movie theaters. These are where you have to be close to other people that typically you're very close to them once the rationale for these locations. Not other shops where you don't have to be close to another person but why these well I think. The real reasoning is bigger than Just sort of the of the service industry we're talking about a lot of businesses and all of those businesses is account for a good number people who are signing up for the unemployment rolls. We're still filing employment on behalf of every single one of our employees and that is you know a huge burden for the governor and for the state to bear at this point to pay all of this unemployment for all of these. The service workers people like you. Who can't afford it right now right. You can't afford it as much as it seems that you know. We're talking about safety precautions and trying to get people back to work safely at the root the economic fear and tragedy. That's happening here. Is really what many people would say is pushing the state and the governor to sort of get things going again and so the owners have to decide. Are they going to reopen? Are THEY NOT. But what about customers? If there's a restaurant open or a gym open Water Bay sang are they going to go to these places? Well we were at a hair salon where they told us that the minute that the governor started talking about opening the state back up their phones started ringing with appointments and they are now booked three weeks out. Yeah so there is a high demand to get your hair cut in Georgia and I don't think that they're gonNA have any any trouble getting customers. Same with the restaurants in our plan of reopening extreme table spacing Dividers what some of these restaurants are talking about. Doing is having fewer seats in their restaurants which just ensures that there's going to be more demand So you know I think for people who are concerned and who want to stay home and who you know feel that they're helping the situation by doing so they will do so but I absolutely feel these businesses. That are open won't have won't have any problem at all with that sad who are people in. Georgia taking their guidance. From if you're looking at the numbers you see nearly a thousand dead in Georgia. Forty one hundred have been in hospitals. There's a real worry among some that this could mean more people dying on one side. You've got governor camp on the other side. The mayors including the mayor of Atlanta and even president trump saying this is too soon to be reopening places like this. You've got two different messages going out. I think people taking guidance from who is giving them sort of the guidance that they WanNa hear. We have more people moving around. We're probably going to have a our case's continue to go up no matter what the governor says. I don't think that he is unaware off the health concerns and the and the crisis that that's happening and the risk and if all of a sudden there is a sudden spike in cases a spike in deaths I could see this governor choosing to close things back up again and in that way Georgia would be a little bit of a task case for everybody else to see how it goes and if the numbers go up or down. Abc Steve Olson. Saami in. Atlanta's Steve. Good talking to you take.

"A living new language would seem to predict the downfall of traditional traditional cultures and power structures the monoculture that would arise in its place would unite all of us well those that were left anyway. Some proponents of the conspiracy also point to instruction number six. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes. It's in a world court. The reference to a world court seems to indicate a ruling global organization or a new world order. There certainly is a threatening way to read these guidelines but there's another way to look at them. That's much less ominous. The rules are focused on finding balance and harmony within human society improving fitness and diversity finding a common language ruling fairly and justly in the absence of some genocidal hidden agenda. These seem like laws we could stand to live by or it. It could be a shining example of the new world orders favourite tactic plausible deniability. Maybe that nefarious secret agenda is hidden in plain sight next. We'll look at the evidence that the Georgia guide stones really do for warn born of something sinister. Mental health is something we need to take seriously..

"Ceremony in a dramatic gesture Mayor Wheeler and Congressmen Bernard whipped off the stones black covering and thus the Georgia guide stones were officially revealed to the Public William G Hutton. The President of the monument builders of North America spoke about the legacy of the stones. The guide stones are what may be one of the few lasting mementos of a civilization that some thousands of years hence may not exist it would be very interesting to hear the remarks if some future residents of that far off time say in the year ear thirty five eighty six happens upon them and decipher is one or more of the stones and says something like. I wonder what went wrong here. You're reverend. James trav- instead was also in attendance but he maintained his hostility toward the stones he said look look what it says about the unity of the world especially with the world court. That's where the Anti Christ will unite the governments of the world under his power the power of the devil. I think they will find this. Monument is for Sun worshipers for cult worship and devil worship or a C. Christian. However was nowhere to be found? If he was in attendance nobody saw him but he did leave a statement with Martin which was meant to be. He read aloud to explain the purpose of these stones part of Christian statement explained our message is in some areas controversial we have chosen to remain anonymous in order to avoid debate and contention which might confuse our meaning and which might delay a considered review view of our thoughts this statement echoes the beliefs of a book titled. Common Sense renewed written and self published by none other than an RC Christian coming up we'll delve into common sense renewed and the statement RC you Christian left with the stones in addition to some of the aftermath in the wake of their construction and now back to the story On March twenty second nineteen eighty. The Georgia Guide stones were unveiled to a public audience of roughly four hundred people are C- Christian Kevin who commissioned these stones was conspicuously absent. He did however send a statement to be read aloud as well as a book entitled God Common Sense Renewed which he had written and self published in a statement Christian said that other stones could be erected in the outer circles to mark the migrations of the moon and possibly other celestial events although his anonymous group of sponsors had given the financial angels support for the six pillars of granite constructed his statement made it clear he had hoped this message would inspire the construction of other stones. The speech ended as follows with the completion of the central cluster of the Georgia Guide stones are small sponsoring group has disbanded handed. We leave the monument in the safekeeping of the people of Elbert County Georgia. If are inscribed words are dimmed by the where of Wind Kim Sun and time we ask that you cut them deeper if the stone should fall or if they be scattered by people of little understanding we we ask that you will raise them up again. We invite our fellow human beings in all nations to reflect on our simple message when these goals are are someday sought by the generality of mankind a rational world order can be achieved for all in addition to the speech Christian also sent one hundred copies of his book commonsense renewed to the unveiling the book echoes the message explained and in the statement but is significantly longer at one hundred and twenty four pages. Christian requested these books to be given to anyone who made significant contributions contributions to the construction of the stones. They were printed by the Graphic Publishing Company in Lake Mills Iowa in one thousand nine hundred six. This book goes goes hand in hand with the mission statement of the Stones Christian sites. Thomas Pains Common Sense as his inspiration. The last few paragraphs of the book's looks preface read as follows collective. Human intelligence is capable of discovering acceptable solutions for the problems which confront us we must work together to direct political and moral influences through channels of wisdom not channels of brute force or ambition using common sense as our guide. We must unite with the entire human family in establishing a limited world government capable of settling international disputes through a system of law. We must establish as a parallel objective the building of an enduring balance between human activities and the world of nature these will be the first steps in creating an enduring age reason despite the backlash backlash the stones received by People Christian would deem of little understanding. There were also a number of supporters of the Stones Joe. H Finley himself was proud of the accomplishment he said I think this is a unique thing for Alberton and the whole state it is something we can all all be proud of and people will marvel at it centuries from now only time will tell if these stones less centuries but they have drawn spectators from around the world for the past forty years from the beginning some have claimed a certain kind of energy can be felt when near the stones in nineteen eighty. Nonni right-back elder attended the unveiling. She was a self proclaimed psychic who attended because she truly believed. There was something magical manacle about these stones. Multiple visitors have noted feeling a strong energy when visiting these stones which might explain a large part of their appeal during construction even sand blaster. Charlie clamps said he heard strange music and disjointed voices when he was carving the stones in in response to this Energy Finley stated this is just another of the mysteries surrounding the Georgia guide stones and their purpose in recent years many Elbert county citizens have started eco-friendly support in pride of the stones the stones attract thousands of visitors which brings things business to the county so it's no surprise they've won over local businesses but given their growing popularity. The stones are often the victim of graffiti viti throughout the years. The stones have faced red spray paint messages such as the elite one eighty percent of US dead nine eleven inside job death to the new world order and council on Foreign Relations is ran by the devil in other instances as the stones were sprayed with polly your thing which is difficult to clean in response to the vandalisation of the Stones Gary Jones publisher of the Alberton Star. A local newspaper said there was a general feeling of disgust. Those stones stood there for thirty years without disturbing anyone. They're a good thing for the community. In September of two thousand fourteen there was another vandalisation and anonymous penman scrawled. I hi banish all darkness. I am Isis Goddess of love in response to this specific instance someone from the Elbert County Maintenance Department notified the FBI about vandalisation in an interview with the New York Times former Alberton grant association employees Hudson Cone Said said to some. It's the holiest spot on earth to others. It's a monument to the devil today. Many citizens of Alberton written are in support of the stones after all. They're a popular tourist attraction and they attract on average ten thousand visitors per year which brings in customers humor for the city. There are a few prominent supporters of the stones. Most notable is Yoko Ono widow of musician John Lennon in one thousand nine hundred ninety three she composed a song called Georgia stone for a tribute album for composer John Cage in the Song Ono chance be not a cancer on earth leave room for nature which is the tenth guide engraved on the stones and in her fervent support for the George Guide Stones Yoko Ono said I want people to know about the stones. We're headed toward a world where we might blow ourselves. Dell's up and maybe the globe will not exist. It's a nice time to reaffirm ourselves knowing all the beautiful things that are in this country and the Georgia's stone symbolize that regardless of the support or controversy surrounding the stones the speculation over the monument leaves an abundance abundance of unanswered questions. The Georgia Guide stones were constructed nearly forty years ago and it doesn't seem like any of these questions or any closer closer to being answered. There are many theories that seek to put the puzzle pieces together to help us solve this mystery. We'll dive into the most prominent. Imminent one's next week are first theory is that RC Christian belongs to a Satanic Society related to the New World Order of this theory focuses focuses on the mysterious time capsule hidden among the stones. Our second theory is that our C. stands for rosy cross which is an emblem emblem of the Rosa Cruzan order. The road secretions are a group that studies the metaphysical laws of the universe believers in this theory think. RC Christian was granted the Elixir of life and our third theory which is the most common is that RC Christian was part of a group of paranoid. Wait about a Soviet invasion. The stones were built in the midst of the Cold War when this kind of paranoia was common and the idea of a doomsday hitting the United States felt like a plausible reality. If one of the three people who knows Christians identity would speak publicly really all these theories would be put to rest but Martin now eighty eight has chosen to remain silent Joe h Finley the only other man man to have claimed direct contact with Christian passed away on May thirtieth two thousand five and the third man. RC Christian himself is he's nowhere to be found for years. Christian and Martin continued their communication via letters which according to Martin stopped in two thousand one run around the time of nine eleven on the murmur around these stones is veiled in the mystery surrounding Christian in those mysteries stories have led to the conspiracy theories will delve further into in next week's episode..

"Distract from the monument and its meaning the message to be inscribed on the stones is to all mankind unkind and is nonsectarian nor nationalistic nor in any sense political the stones must speak for themselves to all who take note and should appeal to believers and non-believers wherever and at all times Martin was curious but he still didn't understand why I a monument like this was necessary it was a waste of money he said but Christian simply shook his head and insisted you don't understand and then he compared the Georgia guide stones to Stonehenge he explained that he had traveled and visited many monuments throughout Europe and stonehenge particularly resonated with him Christian and his group of anonymous sponsors had put together a note explaining the importance of Stonehenge in relation to building their guide stones it read Stonehenge and other vestiges of human thought arouse our curiosity acidy but carry no message for our guidance to convey our ideas across time to other human beings we want to erect a monument a cluster cluster of grave and stones which will silently display our ideas when we have gone we hope they will merit increasing acceptance in in that through their silent persistence they will hasten in a small degree the coming age of reason it may have been the message or perhaps the expensive expensive suit but Christians confidence in intelligence impressed Martin. If Christian provided deposit Martin agree to act as the financial unsual intermediary for the project under one other condition he wanted to know Christians true identity will this is the question that still on our minds today while nobody but Martin knows Christians real name we do know a few facts about our see Christian. He claimed to served in World War Two. He described himself as being a patriotic American in every sense of the word. Perhaps it was the patriotism or or just Christians pure confidence but this gave Martin Reassurance. He needed to give his stamp of approval to the project. Christian left Martin's office that Friday they afternoon agreeing to come back with the money and the necessary paperwork he had not yet revealed his identity over the course course of the weekend. Martin and Finley discussed their mutual meetings with this strange man who seemed to appear out of nowhere both of them were impressed assed Christians expensive clothing and his educated speech as well as his clear passion for the project but Finley was still worried that Christian wouldn't be able to put put his money where his mouth was once the weekend was over some days went by with no sign of Christian Finley started going back to his original general theory that someone had played a prank on him a few days later however Christian returned he approached Martin with a deposit and a nondisclosure agreement for Martin to sign stating he would never reveal Christians true identity the agreement also stipulated that Martin would would destroy any information pertaining to the construction and development of the project after it was completed. Martin signed the forms in regards to the financial deposit. Christian sent Martin money from multiple banks across the United States so that he could not be traced. It was clear clear. This man was serious about his secrecy but he did seem to have the money to pay for the Stones Finley agreed to start on the project and he never inquired further about Christians real name nor the truth behind his anonymous group. It wasn't his business as long as he was getting paid. I I work to this day. As far as we're aware Wyatt see Martin is the only one who knows the true name of RC Christian and per his agreement. He never shared that name but Martin kept secret for a more ominous reason than legal liability. When asked why why year after year he kept Christians identity a secret Martin said they could put a gun to my head and kill me. I will never ever reveal his name in my age and profession you stick by a promise of confidentiality but Christians identity isn't the only secret crit hidden around the Georgia guide stones coming up. We'll delve into the site. The stones were built on and Christian specific civic requirements for construction.

A pseudonym on the word pseudonym is spelled incorrectly within them and at the end of the word as opposed to an m the next line of the tablet reads sponsors a small group of Americans who seek at the age of reason and lastly it mentions a time capsule placed six feet below the spot normally a plaque that commemorates the time capsule indicates a date for win that capsule should be opened bud the granite tablet does not specify a date for this time capsule to be opened. The time capsule is just one of many questions surrounding these stones before we delve into the spiral of theories that seek to answer answer these questions. Let's look at what we do know for certain. We'll start our discussion on the day the secretive. RC Christian first appeared in the the town of Alberton Georgia Elbert in Georgia is self proclaimed to be the granite capital of the world. The guide stones are far from the only only granite constructed wonder within the city limits. The city prides itself on monuments such as the twenty thousand seat Granite Bowl which is the playing venue for the blue devils ALBERTANS local football team. Alberton is located in Elbert county in northern Georgia one town over from South Carolina. Its population is approximately forty five hundred people within four square miles of the city proper. The Saga of the guide stones all began on what seemed seemed like an average summer day in elbert county one quiet hot Friday afternoon in June of nineteen seventy nine a man entered the office of Joe H findlay senior president of the Alberton Granite Finishing Corporation he introduced himself as RC Christian. The first things Finley noticed was Christians attire. He was wearing an expensive suit clearly dressed to impress but it was Christians passionate description description of an ambitious building project. That really grabbed findlay's attention. Christians fervor was family noted Cookie Christian wanted to to build a monument to the conservation of mankind and he wanted findlay and his team to be the ones to build it but Christians Kookiness was not confined to his excitement about his strange project early on in their conversation. He revealed the family that are I see. Christian was not his real name to explain his choice of a false identity. Christian claim to be representing not just himself but a group of anonymous people. He said they were a small group of loyal Americans who believe in God are see Christian was the name that spoke for all all of them he specified they were not Georgia natives and just wanted to leave a message for future generations. This project was their most important work. They had been working on the plans for it. For Twenty years at first family did not take Christian seriously. He wondered if this was a joke joke that one of his friends or co-workers was playing on him but his Christian started going into the details of this monument. Finley's ears perked up Christian and seemed intelligent in his confidence in the reality of this monument was impressive. Finley started taking notes beginning to wonder if Christian in West for real they went through the specifications together in findlay. Put together a rough estimate for the project. He explained a monument. This size had had never been constructed in Alberton before and gave Christian a cost estimate of at least six figures explaining the amount of resources this project would require wire after giving his high quote Finley Watch Christian carefully wondering if the reality of the numbers would end the game but Christian was not deterred instead he requested the address of a local bank fennelly gave Christian the address of the Granite Citibank can with an internal shrug half expecting to never see this so-called are AC- Christian again but vaguely hoping that he would Christian Christian following Finley's directions made his journey through Georgia's June heat the Granite Citibank and the Office of the Bank President Wyatt see Martin Martin when Christian approached Martin he gave the same pitch that he did defend Louis describing his ambitious monument with excitement. Martin echoed Finley's skepticism he explained a project of this scale had never been attempted in Alberton before while Finlay was worried about the money Martin was more concerned about the secrecy of Christian and his group's identity in response to this skepticism Christian said the.

"First episode on the Georgia Guide Stones a strange monument located in Elbert County Georgia the massive granite stones attract ten thousand tourists per year in part because their visually arresting but the contents of their engravings is even more intriguing and the mysterious secrecy surrounding the construction most interesting of all this week will discuss the facts surrounding the Georgia guide stones the strange process through which they were constructed and the controversy that surrounded them next week. We'll delve delve into some of the conspiracy theories surrounding the man and the group who designed these stones. We'll explore some potential intentions in their message as as well as some modern interpretations of what they might mean the Georgia guide stones are located in a grassy field not too far from downtown Alberton Georgia off highway seventy seven at first glance. They can be daunting at nineteen feet and three inches. They loom over the Green Grassy field.
