Georgia Has Never Been Poor in Culture and Spirit

"Home brothers, you got a lot of the stuff back here, but you also get into the old southern raw genre, not necessarily, but Leonard Skynyrd, you get, you know, the Marshall Tucker band. You get Lana rhythm section. I still have memories of Atlanta rhythm section, you know, in the late said, you know, doing champagne jam. I mean champagne jam, yeah. Oh my God, filling up ticks, you know, Georgia Tech stadium back when we're doing those kind of things. And that's just, I think, John, from my perspective, it comes from a culture of sane. And people don't realize this in South Jordan but in north tour as well, that Georgia rural, you know, for many, many years. Atlanta is, of course, blossom, but it is still that people we came from a society that was, we were poor in resources, but not poor in culture and spirit. Exactly. Exactly. And so what we had was is you would have families or people in communities get together and on Friday and Saturday night they would have what we call hooting nannies or they would have people over and everybody would be cooking barbecue and they'd be playing guitar singing or they singing in the church and this is how that culture just developed. It is. I had there are two boys in my paternity, the holder brothers, Gable and wit holder. And they could pick guitars and sing and harmony. It was a true, it was a true southern tradition that they learned from their parents, going to church and all that stuff. And it was so amazing to hear. I remember they did a version of 7 bridges road by the eagles. And I was just left speechless by their ability to play the song and to harmonize at the same time. You know, I have Travis trit on that list too. And he is a hometown favorite because my son's gonna get in the background here. He's interested in the music conversation. But Travis Tritt, a growing up in Marietta, Georgia, post oak tree, you hear stories about Travis's grandfather being a bus driver in that area and I used to get my hair cut at a place called bob's barbershop off the sandy plains road and highway 5 and I never saw him there, but the rumor was that Travis used to go there to get that mullet trimmed up and looking good.

"It's a 40 year career that begins at the Georgia Tech navy game, which I'll come back to. But I want to illustrate how you do name people who get the props. And I want to do it by naming our friend Rebecca, domski, and face. Now faces a call sign. All right, so the admiral's call sign is nasty. Fighter pilots and many other people get call signs, but fighter pilots always have a call sign. Rebecca is not a fighter pilot, but tell us about face and DOM loss. And how they helped you out because looking down for leadership lessons is as important as looking up to mentors. Oh, absolutely. And if there's any of your listeners that think because you have the title, you're the only one with the answers. Please read my book because I demonstrated and all through this book, like good grief, nasty. How come you didn't kill yourself 12 times? How come you didn't get relieved like 15 times? Yes, gosh. I locked a rock. And it was only because of the people on my team that I'm still here today with the ability to write a book from a positive perspective, but Rebecca dunzo is the finest officer of the deck in the United States Navy for only one reason. She stood up to a type a fighter pilot, sure he was right, captain.

It was the start of what you might call avalanche for UVA. They went on a 25 to nothing run and have not looked back. We've also got a good one between Virginia tech and wake forest right now, it's wake forest up 66 to 62, about 6 minutes left in the game there over to college football now, 5th ranked Alabama taking on number 9 Kansas state in the sugar bowl, halftime, and it's the crimson tide with all the momentum after going down ten nothing early, star quarterback Bryce young rifle off three touchdown passes to give Bama the 21 ten lead at the half in Nashville. "Powered by maximus. Moving people and technology forward. And it looks like the wildcats are cooking there, Thomas. They are cooking indeed. It looks like it could be an upset alert Kansas state on top late in the first quarter over number 5 Alabama. Just minutes ago, it was deuce Vaughn, revved up like a deuce for the 88 yard touchdown run that put K state up ten nothing and right now it is late in the first quarter, Alabama with the ball looking to match that 88 yard score for Kansas state. We've also got the trans perfect music city bowl kicked off where early in the second quarter here and if you like defense, you like this one. Tim Tebow on the Importance of Aligning Your Priorities

"Tim Tebow. No kidding. Look, there he is. Hi Tim. Good to see you. I love how you want to respond to that area. I don't know. I don't know. I'm looking for dead silence for confusion. Look, you do so much. But now you've written a book which is a devotional, it's called one year devotional mission possible. And you were talking about a number of things just a minute ago, I think a lot of people struggle with a lot of the things that you were talking about. Like, you know, how do I live consistently? How do I, you know, because some people are really disciplined or some people it comes naturally to them. Other people are a little bit more elliptical in the way they pursue life. But you always talk about identifying your priorities. And so when you say that, what does that mean for you? I think it's so important, Eric, that we understand what's most important in our life and most important in our heart. And then we align our priorities based on those things, right? What's most important is that we're building a relationship with God that we're serving other people that we're making a difference that we're helping, then let's put time for what we say is our top priorities, right? And then it's also, I think, so important. And I go back to this, I mentioned it, that we also reframe our perspective and our mindset because one of the hardest things to gain in the easiest thing to lose is perspective on what matters. And I'll give you example. This weekend, I mean, there's so many families that are going to Thursday celebrate Thanksgiving. And then Friday and Saturday based on all the raibaru weekend, the Florida Florida state and Georgia Georgia Tech and auburn Alabama and Ohio State Michigan and there's literally going to be for 48 hours. House is divided and you know what's going to be a big deal and I love it because I love sports, but all of a sudden that's become a priority that so many people drastically changed their life for when ultimately it's hard to then remember hey Eric, it's just a game,

Mark Sewell Describes the Uniqueness of Various FBI Offices

"Got there, what was some of the main emphasis of the Atlanta office? Because I've helped people understand the field perspective of what agents do. Yeah, so each office in each city is similar in many regards, but also has a little bit of difference to reflect that city. So every office is divided into squads and so for example, in Atlanta, we had a bank robbery squad where we had 12 or 15 agents who worked bank robberies and Atlanta was a very popular destination for bank robberies. Los Angeles is the bank robbery capital of the U.S.. So Los Angeles had a couple three squads that tackled nothing but the problem of bank robberies. New York is the home of the mafia. So New York had 5 squads that tackled the mafia in Atlanta. We had one. Drugs are, as you know, a big problem in South Florida, Miami had 5 drug squads, for example, in Atlanta we had one. Atlanta had no one particular problem that it focused on. It just had a little bit of everything. So we had a white collar crime squad. We had a foreign counterintelligence squad because of university of Georgia and Georgia Tech and the aerospace that technology that's in Atlanta. We had a public corruption squad that handled just that public corruption. We had a gang squad. But we just had one of each because Atlanta was just one of those cities that had all the crimes, none more than other, but enough to keep every squad busy. I would say that.

"That I wanted to give out about how I feel about college football and the way it's going now. I'm really, I really don't like the way it's going. If I wanted to watch a paper play, I just watched the NFL and at least they got a salary cap and pre agency rules right now the way it is. Schools that recruit based on strong academics and stuff like that, like schools like Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Notre-Dame, they don't have players. I have to ask you this because I've heard people say what you're saying. But give me a little more, give me a little bit of information about yourself in terms of your fan loyalty and where you live. About an hour and a half from Atlanta and on the Georgia Tech fan. Well, what I was about to say probably won't be germane to you because you don't have a football program. So it's not the same as having one. Not now. No, so I understand where you're coming from. If you're Georgia Tech fan, but if you're a fan of a mainline team, this stuff isn't bothering you. You're waiting for the first Saturday of the football season. But Georgia Tech is an outstanding academic school where the priorities are different. And as a result, the football team may be dead forever. And when I say that, I mean, you need to be, I mean, Georgia Tech has won a national championship in the modern time, but this was a powerful program, 50, 60, 70 years ago. And has gone back and forth in the interim, but I don't see Georgia Tech ever coming back under the current construct of college football. I don't either, and the thing I'm getting at is, should there not be maybe two different leagues to different championships, maybe you have a power 20 or 30 teams that's where the teams are slinging money left and right, and then you have a true college championship sandy with an ambulance. The number one television Sports Network in the country, I know that there will be 25 million people watching the top 25 championship. I don't know anybody who would watch Georgia Tech play northwestern in the other one. I wouldn't watch it. Why.

"And neuroscience My name's Alex burgoyne I'm a research scientist at Georgia Tech and I study individual differences in attention control problem solving ability and their implications for academic achievement and job performance Great Thank you all for being here Now I've asked you all in to share your expertise on measuring cleverness because this is one of those topics where lots of experts disagree and I thought a panel might give us some group answers So if I've asked a question to one of the others and you'd like to jump in please do At the start of this year crowd science made a related episode about intelligence called our big head smarter which you can find in our back catalog So I know I'm starting you all off with a tough question here But in a sentence smartness cleverness intelligence I'm using them all to mean roughly the same thing but can you tell me what that thing is Do we have a definition of intelligence Sophie why don't you kick off Well the textbook definition of intelligence is a general mental capacity to reason to solve problems to think to draw logical conclusions to figure out what needs to be done And that's very much what people will answer if you ask them like this I think we can stretch this a little and I like to say that it is the adaptability of the brain It is the ability of our brains to figure out in the moment what is required and to solve that problem And so with that the core definition of intelligence becomes a little bit transportable because what you have to figure out always depends on the situation that you're in Okay Alex what's your definition I might add that you know the context does matter Intelligent behavior really does differ depending on the circumstance and our definitions need to.

"Now you have a takeaway a couple takeaways from their latest filing It appears that some of the data they were using to make up this story about the trumps and their connection alpha bank in Russia was really expensive wasn't I just noticed this in your social media fee They were paying a lot of money for this data They were and I don't know if your listeners had seen but I just got another dump of right to know requests from Georgia Tech And some of the info was how much they were paying for this And we're talking millions of dollars and I also noted how broad this is One of the things in the document was that they have a single source provider actually two of them And new star was one of them because they are the only company at least the way they're writing this who has access to all this information And it's talking about how much billions of information they have which is why this is so scandalous These people have access to this and they are using it for good most of the time but when you have a bad actor there which is what sussman's alleged to have done to put this phony scheme together it's horrifying and it makes no one trust the way hats anymore

Concerned Women for America's Penny Nance on the Lia Thomas Saga

"Friend penny Nance, who's the president and CEO of concerned women for America. So penny, you've written this piece that's talking about the current madness of this gigantic man who calls himself a woman destroying women in swimming competition. Again, there's a part of me that can't help but find it funny. It's like, are we kidding? Like it's sort of seems so preposterous, but then I just wonder what happened to the actual men who are the fathers of these young women who are not standing up to the craziness and saying this is ridiculous. This has to stop. Well, a couple of things. And you're talking about a young man whose name is he's changed his name from will Thomas Delia Thomas. He was a collegiate swimmer for University of Pennsylvania as a man. The men's team. He was ranked at number 462. He now has taken hormones and has transitioned. He says that he's a woman, and he must compete on the women's team. And the coaches are like, great. We're going to win. And guess what? He's smoking all the women. He is finishing a full minute ahead of the other competitors. He goes from number 462 to first. And this week, Eric, he is competing in the NCAA championship at Virginia or excuse me. Georgia Tech and he's going to win and he's going to break he's broken the records of women. He's taken their trophies. He's going to be first. And women who are competing against him even women on his own team have been told, do not speak out. If you speak out, you will be punished. And so we have women who are coming forward to us, by the way, can someone for America, and breaking news here is getting ready to file a civil rights action against University of Pennsylvania. The Department of Education on the behalf of young women whose trophies are being taken. We've already done this with Franklin Pierce and university of Montana because this is a violation of these young women's civil rights, both in sports, but also he is changing in their locker room. I mean, all these

Did Hillary Clinton Spy on Trump While He Was in Office?

"Came out in this court filing is John Durham revealed that Hillary Clinton and her campaign continued a surveillance project while Donald Trump was president. That's right, president of the United States. Now you might ask how that would be possible. Well, Hillary Clinton went and found a group of tech workers, we suspect these tech workers work for Georgia Tech. They are Internet service providing tech geniuses. You could say. Hillary Clinton hired them and basically knew that they had backend government access. So these tech workers worked for darpa, which is the defense research agency. So basically, they were able to track Internet activity and maybe know more, but we know at least Internet activity of what was happening in the EOP. Now the EOP is the executive office of the president. So Hillary Clinton, according to this filing, hired tech workers outside vendors, who then came through. And were monitoring what websites The White House was visiting. Your government. So these tech executives had government access and exploited it for money and for espionage. This is total and complete domestic espionage using their access to spy on a sitting president of the United States.

"georgia tech" Discussed on Work Matters With Ken Coleman

"This is work matters with bestselling author and syndicated talk. Show host ken coleman. It's tuesday september fourteenth resume builder dotcom one in three americans admit to line on the resume before we dive into that the fact that thirty three percent of americans admit to line on the resume tells me the numbers way higher. That's how many people were honest about it. Right goodness what do you think the real number is. I seventy percent seventy percent of people on the resume. Yep why let's line is a strong word embellishing hyperbole. You know maybe some things air what you wanna look a little better than you really are. Here's the key findings of the study resume. Lies are more frequent among higher. Earners i believe that The most common will. I is in years of experience. Eighty percent of people who lied were hired but nearly half had the job offer rescinded after being caught out. Why is this surprising folks. I mean. I just wonder how many of these people had good experiences line to their teachers and parents growing up you got to have integrity. Well it yeah you do because you're gonna get caught. Yeah so now. This progress that you were lying to to achieve is gone very interesting stuff. Let's see here in july survey resume. Builder asked twelve hundred people ages eighteen and older if they'd ever lied on a resume and found that obviously that three and ten have experienced an education or the areas where people lied the most. And i don't understand how you feel like you get away with lying about your experience knowing that employers are going to check up on this but i guess they're rolling the dice if you're gonna lie about something about some in the as it's hard to vet. That's hard to verify right then. Lying about education is the second one voice so forty. Six percent lied about their years of experience. Forty four percent lied about their educational background. Forty three percent lied about how long they held a previous position and forty percent. Here's your word. George embellish their skills or abilities that one. i believe. We've all done that a little bit. Yeah i feel. Like if i'm gonna if i'm gonna fudge a little bit there's your ear that's where to do it but certainly not. How long a held a previous position when they can call up these people and go. How long was george there. Five years or two. Oh interesting. George told us it was five. You're telling me was eighteen months. Well here's the thing. People look at the the job descriptions while they need five years experience. So yeah yeah. Sure we'll we'll call it five or round up very interesting as you go deeper into the study of the people that did the study aren't surprised by the number of applicants who had their lives discovered because there's multiple ways for hiring manager hiring managers to vet resumes direct quote many employers use internal or external services to verify education job experience and other certifications. Here's the bottom line. I remember years ago. Joe you might remember this georgia's know what football is seven hard so you wouldn't even know this but there's a guy by name of georgia leary. Who is a very successful football coach at georgia tech. I was living in the atlanta area at the time. So this but this was a national story so he gets georgia tech to a really great place. He's building the program. And notre dame comes call notre dame again georgia. You're gonna look all this now. That's a big deal on you know. Notre dame's a big deal and football. I mean they're like when it gets to lower and and prestige notre dame. Is it all right. This georgia leary. He's not a first time football coach while he hadn't updated as resume. George there'd a lie about his education in his resume for god only knows how long so he i mean he's in the door. He's already signed the contract national news georgia leary dream job notre dame what happens rescinded comes out somebody in the old notre dame department does your actual homework on the full resume guys already been announced lied about his education to catholic school. Oh yeah is that a cardinal sin. I think he kinda add that one of the list on the resume. There was no opportunity for george to do a confession. He was out gone. Ouch took rescinded. the offer. Dream job gun because he fudged on his education and years the irony. they didn't even care. Nobody cares about your level of education. Just a lie about it. They hired the gotta be a football coach. He probably would have got the job regardless but the fact that he lied made him lose it. There's a lesson learned integrity. It all comes down to integrity. If you like.

That when you're talking about shooting. I don't know if you remember if you know this guy you ever heard of has led us lot of course. Unfortunately he's passed away but he was known as one of the great shooting coaches at the time. You know people come to him about shooting. And i actually went out there and spend some time with them. Believe it or not and He was brilliant shooting coach. You know just with that. So i that in knowing that in your area over there. So how did you decide to go to arizona. I know i remember talking to miles about you. Remember the sports illustrated article about you going there to be a coach. But what's the. What was the real story behind how you decided this was the spot yet. You know what. I i you know doug i sent a letter to every single division one division two division three in a division one division two schools in america over thousands personals handwritten letters to over thousand schools. Telling them what i wanted to do. You know look. I recognize at that. Time was playing in the nba. still thought it was a good player and could play. I thought i could play arizona or some school like that. I could just be good enough in my mind and But i did send a letter to all over a thousand schools personal handwritten letters and i talked. I can be a positive impact. A positive teammates. you know. I can work the guys out you know. All those type of things won't count against high limits or anything like that in coach olsen solve the letter and responded to me. Now i think he also liked are a ut because we had a really good players cried wanted to bring me there trying to drag guys that would drag guys with me to to arizona. Or not i would then come in and take turn shooting and they would end up they would end up rebounding for me. I was chasing around the mile sign was chasing around my i miss shots you know and passing it back to me like to ball three man shooting and all and i was involved. Actually because i was still thinking i could work on my game but eventually that stop midway through that my freshman year. We thought doing that. Because just i was not going to.

Allow the players that there's a a bunch of really good stuff in here it's a two-part interview this is part one and it's interesting because he just had a tremendous point guard finishes. Acc player of the year at georgia tech and the point guard has been wildly disgust. I've been told. I've been told time and again that position has changed. You can't play the way that you were taught to play and Then i give you chris paul now. Look chris paul. I mean average. Twenty five and ten part of it was the average. Twenty-five part of it was used planning backups. Part of it is you do luggage. You gotta score. You gotta keep the defense honest. But there's there's just a difference to how he plays as opposed to a a russell westbrook right the numbers look the same to the layman but the style is very very very very different and finally seeing a point. Guard the truce two point guards. Get the claim that he deserves because he finally got out of that second round and to this point is an injured is a great thing not a good thing a great thing. I guess the question is will ask this coaches is. Does it change the way you evaluate the position. That chris paul this far in can still do it the way he's always done it ends pretty good question right. That's why i do what i do i. I would point out that they played banged up. Banged up teams. I mean that's fair. That's that's not in anywhere. An unfair commentary about How and why. Driving left side of the lane, his runners around the rim. No good kicked up. No good done with the second Put back is up in good and Notre Dame's back on top by 4 62. 58 The Irish Played well in a lot of areas tonight. A lot of individual guys played well, but it was a battle of intestinal fortitude in the second half, which Notre Dame lost. And as you know, I've been with Coach Brave for 21 years. When he gives me a one word answer in an interview. He is not happy, and he's already pushed a lot of buttons this year changing lineups getting on guys with the covert 19 epidemic. I'm not at practice anywhere near as much as I used to be. But he even started the scout team at Miami, which he has never done anything right now. He's not just exactly sure. What button to push.
