"With the intro of Bill Cosby because that was slipped to me by my Pell, Rockin radio, John D who rock and radio. John D reckon radio. John D is the guy that does. The greasy Skillet or on Wham radio Saturday nights. I have to go so far as to say quite accurately, so rock and radio, John D. And the greasy Scott is one of the coolest shows on the radio ever in the history of mankind. I don't say that kind of thing lightly. Now the deal on that guy is I used to. I did a two hour version of the bone conduction music show. You hear that on Saturday nights as well. That's what kicks the whole thing off at four pm here on WJR radio. But that was done specifically for a public radio station in Kentucky of all places. Georgetown, Kentucky, Georgetown, Kentucky. Turns out. The station was licensed by a Baptist university. Which is cool. But the people that ran the university they didn't like some of the things I would say on the radio. Yeah. They were they were very much Kentucky Baptist out. And it had a good run though. It went for a long time. But. Rockin radio. John D emailed me and he found out about through the university. He's down there in muscle shoals, Alabama. He picked it up from. I don't know if it was suggested or what? But the Chicago guy that does the blue shelf forever. A blackout living blues or something. Anyway. One thing led to another and we made Email contact. So when me and my wife, the lovely Linda were done in New Orleans. This is years ago. Radio. John D said if you ever get into neighborhood, look me up. So I emailed them. We're going to be a New Orleans on the way back when we ride back up. It was always a road trip. We go down and stand one city overnight, maybe Nashville overnight on the rest of the way or come back and staint Saint Louis something like that some interruption of a city on the way down and have a natural ball. But anyway, on the way back we said, let's meet no hookup half-cup coffee. Well, he suggested the Cracker Barrel in Alabama. And I said, I'm there, man. So we we hung on Cracker Barrel. And we just immediately all hit it off as long lost, a blues, rock and roll, friends and country music fronts. So when it came time to put together, the rock and radio, rock and rhythm view that we do here. It's called on Saturday nights on radio some of the finest music programming ever. And I know that because I go back to forever, but listen critically to radio since I was eight years old of that is forever on a blind zenith tuning by nanometers up and. Down the AM dial. But anyway, I said to I called a rock and radio John DNA said he do you want to do a radio show? I mean, you're musicologist you've got a collection die for his. It's funny because all the guys who say I've never done radio. I would know what to do. Do you think I know what to do? You're going to do it, man. So one thing led to another same thing with fest. Eddie. The radio. I don't know. Do that. So anyway, they'll started doing anywhere rock and radio. John D the rest is history. Yeah. What a collection that guy is. And what an education that guy. Unbelievable in terms of music musicologists every one of them, Dan, Martin unbelievable, everybody is. So now, we've got chef Chris on. He does his greasy thing every every Sunday at midnight Saturday at midnight moving into Sunday morning. So anyway, there you have it Iraq and radio, John D. He's heard here on WJR radio on Saturday nights and tell you if you haven't heard his show, you ain't heard radio, it's very cool stuff. He's he's still comes comes our way courtesy of. Southern Alabama Donner muscle shoals. Oh, I just called the the reason that we got hooked up in the first place he used to he worked for the Alabama state troopers, and at one point he was communications officer, and he'd be listening to cool radio while he was bored out of his mind dispatching and fielding calls and things like that. And I don't know if they're supposed to do that. But he gave me an Alabama state trooper shirt and a tummy said just don't work Alabama. So I still have it. I don't work very often. But I was feel kind of guilty me running around running running around Alabama state trooper shirt, I don't know. Favorite shoot somebody in heaven forbid, I would ever have to legally. So I wouldn't want to be wearing an Alabama state trooper ship. You never know. So we thought we're talking about the farm Bill here. On the one of the things I just posted something if you haven't seen these things they take like a they're doing it with Trump quite a bit. They'll take some place where Trump is what some other people. And then they do the I guess you call animated where they have the heads moving and talking, and then they fill in the the voice, and they're usually hilarious. They're very very big because your kids see these because they swear quite a bit. I mean, they swear is put something up there to another one where they were quite a bit. But I wouldn't put it up wasn't worthy of your attention. And if you can't handle adult language, boy, there's a lot you're cut out of life. So I stuck this up there. And it's the meeting between Trump Pelosi Szuber with Mike Pence, and I gotta tell you this is pee your pants funny. You've got to see it. It's up at the second from the top on thyroid exit on Facebook. You know, what else I put up there? I posted this couple of days ago. There's a production number an old school Hollywood production, number art deco. Like, you cannot believe a baby it's cold outside and it's Michael boob way. And I can't remember the girl's name. They're singing the song back and forth, but they use a couple of these all kids it takes place in some art deco type, a big city hotel and the kids are dancing and singing. And I'm telling you, it is unbelievable to die for you're going to want this on your Facebook page, this is beyond wholesome and beautiful. So get over and see that. Exiting facebook. Now, we're talking about the farm Bill, and they've just got it any vestige of anybody getting back on their feet, and whether they're somewhat forced to figure out I'm going to find some way to get off of stamps because they're making it. So you don't have to work now will be people who say I don't want to be on here. I'm getting off as fast as I can. Yeah. Yeah. But that's that's not going to be the majority of people the people that the whole snap food thing is geared toward it's not geared toward people that need food. Absolutely. There are people that need food. We must take care of those that cannot hunt. We feed them we feed them. Of course, we do. Those that will not hunt. Yeah. If they will not hunt. They shouldn't eat. I didn't say that Jesus did is right in the bible. Say that. But I agree with it. What about that? When we come back. You're on the edge. It's alternative. No. Actually, it's not. It's a Christmas bump music Friday. That's what it is really bump music. We're gonna play another Christmas tuned for you between now and the time we get out of here tonight. We're moving up on Christmas proper. Hang tight. It's all good. You're on the edge..

"Seven twenty on news talk eleven ten ninety nine three WBZ governor MacQuarie appeared on meet the press yesterday his latest appearance on the political panel will revisit some of that coming up at seven thirty five. But as we continue to remember, the forty first president of the United States, George H W Bush. Ring on the line from the WBZ news team. Joe Gillespie who actually interviewed. Or covered president H W Bush or at the original time. He actually he wasn't president either time it was on either side of being president but about thirty years apart and Joe joins me on this Monday morning. Good morning. Joe? Good to have you on as always. And so you were telling me, and I want to get into more detail here you had a chance to cover George H W Bush in the late seventies. And then also again what about ten years ago or so ten years ago? So talk to me about each each time. So set the scene in the late seventies. And I was working in San Diego, California, a News Radio station, and we received news release in the mail. Somebody was having a convention, and I don't remember who it. It was not a political convention just some group or organization or company was having a convention town and country hotel in mission valley in San Diego. And one of the speakers is going to be George Bush. Wasn't exactly a household name at the time. But because of his background and his time in China. Well, that sounds really interesting. I wonder if I could talk to and so I contacted the convention whoever was handling their PR. Oh, sure. No problem. So on a Saturday. I got my recorder and go over to the hotel and. I guess in the lobby or someplace I see this guy and George Bush, and we ended up sitting at his this big this big table in the middle of this big ballroom at this hotel on Saturday. I think we're the only two people in the room and just chatting for a half hour. I don't remember that we, you know, anything mazing that was discussed. I just remember that it was just a couple of guys talking on a Saturday and may probably have a Cup of coffee. It was very interesting. So he would be two years away from joining the ticket with president with candidate Reagan in one thousand nine hundred eighty and eventually three, you know, do changeover from being vice president, and he he he was at a time in his life. When people were not to talk to him, necessarily, right and he'd been in public life. And so he he Robinson was looking for just a little keep my name alive kind of thing. So it was just a it was just an interesting moment that you don't have very often. And at the time, you know, I I wasn't thinking well someday he may be president. I was just thinking this guy said a lot of interesting jobs. And it'd be interesting to talk about him. Well, and one thing one thing I've been kind of talking about this morning with various people about H W Bush is the fact that I think there's a younger generation of people who over these next four days as the country pays its respects. I think there are a lot of people younger people who will begin to learn about George H W Bush pre vice president and president he was a war hero. And a very, you know, there's the CIA and there's the the political career before hitting the national stage. There's a lot. There was a lot to this man. Absolutely ten years ago. I was working in Lexington. Kentucky north of Lexington Kentucky is Georgetown Kentucky, Georgetown, Kentucky. He's a college. Nice college, Georgetown, college, and the PGA is I remember has some kind of a program called the first tee or something. Scholarship program, and they were gonna have this advantage, Georgetown, college I went up, and he was there. George Bush and they named a recreation center after about their here. He was so into fitness. And so in an active person, you know, the baseball and college and the tennis in the golf, well, Scott skydiving in your nineties. Qualifies as active, absolutely. But it was just an interesting time or covered a lot of people at different times. But the cover him at these kind of off moments. You kinda got a glimpse of who the person wise, and he just seems so very genuine. Now, the the conversation in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight I don't suppose there's any audio of that leftover is there. You know, if I were both. If I were Bo I know there would be. Would have been on a cassette, and maybe an drawer someplace, but I'll probably moved so many times. I don't remember. I don't remember what the league was on the story and what we did with it. I'd probably just maybe we had an interview shows are probably ran on big hunk of it there. I don't know that he made any big news at the time. I probably got more just inside because of the China was what was really interesting if a time, right and. It's just one of those moments. And can you think well that was that was kind of amazing? Well, and isn't that the the the case so often I mean, look, even though I tend to roll tape on everything. You never know, especially when you're covering a story, and you have covered so many things over the years. Joe's one of the guys I just like to go back in the newsroom every once in a while. I'm just just listen to because you've got so many stories in such a great perspective. But you know, you didn't know in nineteen seventy eight with this guy was going to become in just a few years. I mean, how you know all of us who work in this business. We can all remember things that if I'd known, then what this was going to be I would've played paid more attention to it. But then that's Tapu. I would have saved. Well, joe. And as I let you go here just despite all thoughts, overarching thoughts from a longtime newsman on George H W Bush. Well, I heard the Sam Donaldson and people talking about him yesterday covering him as president. And and those that the he obviously didn't agree with with every story that was written. He certainly appreciated. The fact. How important the news media is in this country. And I I respected that about him. I think he was somebody that was much. You know, he read and was interested in you might not agree with your opinion. But he certainly didn't have any problem with the fact that you had one. Well, yeah. And like you point out, there's the there's the Bush pre White House, there's the President Bush, and then then look at look at his family look at what he began Ryan, we're still in the midst of many of them in in in in in or around public office. So hey, Joe always enjoyed talking to you. And thanks for your perspective. This morning. Youtube Joe Glaspie from the WBZ news room. And we go to that very newsroom right now, check some headlines with John Stokes. PD piecing together. Details in connection with an officer involved shooting on the east side over the weekend.
