"83 degrees three o'clock in afternoon. I'm Jeff McKinney. The Biden administration has now issued a major disaster declaration for New York. It covers the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Westchester. Governor, Murphy says. Biden has also issued a disaster declaration for parts of New Jersey. Governor Murphy says the disaster declaration means residents and business owners affected by last week's storm in Bergen, Middlesex, Passaic, 100, Gloucester and Somerset counties will have access to federal funding to help in the recovery effort. Murphy is also launching a data collection portal for areas of the state that federal officials are Still evaluating for possible financial assistance. The governor's encouraging residents and business owners outside of those six counties the head to NJ dot gov slash IDA to document storm damage. I'm Scott Pringle, w O R NEWS President Biden will be in New Jersey and New York City tomorrow, Touring the damage wrought by the remnants of Ida and Murphy says he wants more than just six counties named in the declaration. This is the first six The most obvious six but not necessarily the last six. And so we're going to stay in there fighting. To get other counties added to that list the president is visiting tomorrow. This is obviously a topic of conversation that I will have with him. The death toll from last week's flooding remains at 27 in New Jersey, 13 in New York City, three in Westchester County, Four people remain missing in New Jersey and Westchester County Executive George Vladimir with the status update on the flood cleanup. Their Westchester County was hard hit by itis floods. At least five county residents killed an untold amounts of property damage. County executive Vladimir advising residents to get as much wet stuff as possible out of their homes and out to the curb. If you look at the house and you see all of the debris that is now ruined,.

"Berman and Michael Riedel's in the Morning on 17. W O war. Well, the news keeps getting worse. That of Surfside, Florida. Uh, now they're saying four dead and they've upped the number considerably of those are unaccounted for, which is just chilling. Joe partner will have all the details and this newscast coming up at 8 30. There is a bit of good news in our area. Things do seem to be getting back to normal. Another sign of that comes tomorrow Ride, play Land reopens. Let's bring in our buddy, the Westchester County executive George Latimer. So, uh, You must be smiling. You're the ear. Well, we're pretty excited. Let me know It's was closed all of last year because of covid in the state regulations, so we opened play land. We're also opening our public pools or four of them. Today are two beaches are open. We're getting Glen Island back from the state next week, So I have another beach open and it feels like normal and that's really what we're striving for normal. You know, I know. Over the years, Playland has been financially It's had some moments where it hasn't seen viable hasn't made money. What is the what is the county doing to make sure that it makes money this summer? Well, if this is going to be a tough year known for us to make money, because it's a shortened season, you know, we didn't know that we would be able to open it until you know after a certain date, and we would have opened it in May. We would have had Memorial Day weekend revenue and so forth, So we're going to be impacted this year and making money we think next year when it's a full operating year. We can make a couple of million dollars. It is a weather resistant weather dependent facility. So if you get heavy rain on Fourth of July week, you know you can't recapture that money. But generally we've invested money already. We've got more coming. Which over the long haul is going to spruce up the park make it look better. Better conditions, better rides and you know, when you don't invest in something that ages, then you're not going to get the revenue and therefore you're not going to make the profit. So we think It's a virtuous circle rather than a vicious cycle, and we think we're heading in the right direction for the years to come. All right. Couple of things, George. I know you're having a press tour today. Open tomorrow. What changes have been made, And also will there be any kind of covid restrictions? Are they all gone? Well, they're not totally gonna lend because you are in a closed environment. People are unvaccinated. You know they're still encouraged. We're not going to check them at the gate. But they're encouraged to wear masks when they walk through the park Now up here, as we talked about the last time were over 75% vaccinated and that number probably will hit 80 before too long for adults over 18. So we're good shape. But a park like Playland draws some other places. So we don't know what the numbers are like, and other jurisdictions. We know that When you come into the park, the carousel is going to be open for the first time In four years. We suffered a fire, which closed the carousel. This is 106 year old Carousel has got beautifully carved horses. It's really quite a Historical piece and it operation and it operates well, so that's reopening with this park season. We had a ride that we opened in 19, so it's still fairly new. It didn't get used in 20 called the Dragon Ator and you know, at my age, I'm not going to get on these things and also myself around, but the kids love it, And that's that's who we're really targeting. For this year. I think we're in a preparatory year because the capital we're doing park is going to look beautiful. But next by next year's time, we're doing work on the entry Fountain Plaza in the off season after this year's closed, we're We're redoing the pool, which is out of commission for this year and come next year. I think you're going to see a big jump. In the quality of the facility and, you know, heading heading for the future. Beyond that, people forget that New Rochelle was, you know the initial hot spot on the East Coast for Covid. Now you have this new variant this delta variant does that. Have you worried that that could take the covid cases back up again in places like Westchester? Well, you know what they say. And I'm not a scientist. You know, I follow the same things you do, and as a practical person try to assess and if they change their rules, we change ours. They tell us that these variants are make the disease more communicable. But there's still effectively dealt with by the vaccinations. So if you're vaccinated than the Delta variants should not be a problem for you. It also tells us that while the variant is more communicable, it's not more severe in its impact. So if you get the disease, it's not like you get it out of worst level and you're more likely to be sick. We're down to 13 people in Westchester County, hospitalized for Covid 13 in the middle of January we had 588 and we have had one. I think one fatality in the last 10 days, so the numbers are really good. Now the variant changes those numbers that will obviously adjust. We don't We're not default mindset. Let's go back in the basement and hide out for another six months. Our default mode is let's try to operate as close to normal as we can. If the facts on the grounds change them will change. But let's let's let our attitude we try to open and try to get back to where we were. And it's going to take a big step tomorrow with the reopening of Rye Playland. Thanks, George. George. Vladimir, the Westchester County executive always enjoyed having you on. Thanks, George. Come on up and ride the Dragon Coaster. What's the admission charge to get into the park? 20 for the risk bear that gets you on all the rides, but you can walk around for free. Okay, maybe I go walk around. I don't want to take those rides either. I'd like you, you know, to be jostled..

What about the kid who wanted to be a A baker when he grows up? Because he makes a lot of dough? So does Chris have another winner for us? Your husband? Okay, I'm sure your classic ones. Okay. Why didn't the sun go to college? Because the daughter did. It already had a million degrees. Oh, my God. Don't like it. That is good. Thank you. That reminds wait, Wait, wait, but that reminds me of Okay? I don't know if I can do this. It reminds me of what made Don I'm is famous. Can I do this? Alright, I'll think about it while you're thinking about it. Let's bring in George Vladimir George. Vladimir's in here, but okay, Yeah, sorry. George Vladimir is the Westchester County executive. Uh, well, he's basically my second favorite executive. Because I live in Nassau County and Laura current actually texted me yesterday. I wish me a happy birthday. What did I hear from Vladimir Crickets anyway? Hey, George, what's doing in Westchester? Yeah. You want to come back on the program soon. George, Her is the answer. Then hers it Yeah. Oh, he was playing tag team trivia still holds a grudge. Alright, George, Uh, Glenn and I want to rematch with Laura on elevator music from help. Yeah, well, Oh, come on. Can we do that? Natalie, we've got to do But let's come over some hard ones. No, we'll do that. We'll do that. Okay. Hey, George On a serious note or at 69.9%, the governor says when we get to 70, I mean, were there Come on, open, open everything up and let's be done with it. Well, we're there already in Westchester word 74.8. And I think Laura's even ahead of me with the 12 counties in the state for the big cash, or she is one and we're number two. So, but 74.8 you know, we've done everything we can within our power to open it up. Obviously, the power you know, the ultimate power in the state belongs to the governor. But but we're ready and I think that people are ready and we're doing everything we can to get back to normal. George, Let me ask you something, And I want you to be candid with me on this one. We know that Cuomo is just been encircled by scandals. Covid was the best thing that ever happened to him, and now he is in the pit, and he's trying to claw back out of that. And he's now saying even if we hit 70%, we may not be there yet. This man is clinging to the one thing that brought him to the top. And that is Covid. Do you see this guy still trying to keep people shut down just so that he can keep his job so that people will still think he's in charge of Covid. And if he does that, will people in West Treasures say We're not listening to him anymore? Life is going on. Yeah, I think you know. First of all, it's a big state, and there's different elements of the state. We sit right next to the Bronx and what's happening in Westchester. That's very good isn't quite at the same level in the Bronx. So, but I do think Look, I do think that opening up the society as long as you can justify it is the best possible politics because wherever I go, Mike around my county people, you know they're concerned about the virus, and they do want people who are unvaccinated. Wear masks, but they want if they are vaccinated, and that 75% of our county adults, they want to open up things. They want to be able to have summer concerts in the park. And I think that is the best politics If you want to be popular, and also do the right thing, And I think you want to open up to society more rather than shut it down. Shutting it down doesn't get you That doesn't get you anywhere. Vaccinations get you somewhere. Norma George Lattimore, the Westchester County executive. Well, the phrase we keep hearing is well when we hit 70%. We're going to open things up for the most part. So what part is not getting opened up at 70? Well, the concerns I would have from a suburban standpoint, if you get on a B line bus and your cheek to jowl with a bunch of people that you don't know that's probably where the mask needs to be on. Certainly if you walk into a hospital or a nursing home where you know there are germs and other sick people a mask should be on. But I have to tell you, you know, in every day walking around White Plains, Yonkers Mount Vernon, which is where we have our concentrated populations. Um people are not wearing masks, and I don't treat it as a problem Now, because of the vaccination rate, the spread is minimal. We we tested yesterday three some odd 1000. 12. People tested positive out of 3000. If those numbers started to go up, then we take a different actions. But right now I think the numbers and the circumstances allow for it. And people do want it. The springtime It's almost the summertime now. And they want to have normalcy and I think we want to deliver an officer. All right. So as normalcy mean that caramel is going to be open and that right Playland is going to be open. Yes, both will be. We're opening Playland, the 25th. Friday, a week from Friday. I guess it is and we're ready to go with Playland this year was closed last year Michael Open this year. Paramore has a big opening night coming up. In fact, there's a new director of caramel. It's time to give you a call. Because I know you love the place and this new guy should talk to you and talk to him. But, yes, I think those kind of things are happening When I said before about some of the park, all our little towns and villages all have their own little series of concerts and, you know, tribute bands and you know the local the local guys who played music and the vast majority that we're going to be up this summer, and it's going to be a lot better summer that we had last year. All right, George Vladimir Westchester County Executive, come back and challenge Laura current of Nassau County to elevator music from hell Looking forward to it. Thanks, George. Take care, guys. Alright, Good. Talkative congratulations on lawyers. Exiles. Looks like things are looking up in Westchester County.

He's got red lines to draw, but here's another meeting. We have to pay attention to Today. The president will be meeting with Pope Francis. But the president will not get his, uh, wish he wanted an early morning Mass. The president's entourage originally requested that Biden be able to attend Mass with the pope. But the Catholic News Agency reports the plan was rejected by the Vatican. After considering the impact the president Biden getting holy communion from the pope would have on discussions. Involving the U. S. BISHOPS. US bishops here. The U. S conference of Catholic Bishops is expected to vote this week on creating a committee to outline new Eucharistic rules. And one of the things they are considering here is a rule that would ban political leaders who support abortion. From receiving communion. The funny and interesting Rob Astorino running for governor, eh? Robbo area. That's a stupid question. No, you don't say it right. Here you go. Wait, Wait. That's stupid. Next question. Yeah. E mean, Rob, Let me ask you something, Rob, Let's just let's do a little sort of psychological assessment of this man on Andrew Cuomo. You've known him a long time. You've worked with him. You know the Cuomo family? Where does that Creamy vanity and arrogance come from Mm. God Pick your worst horror movie. Is he like Jason? Is he like the guy and in saw? I mean, this guy's psycho. It really is. Don't say that lightly. Because this is this comes from people who know him. Well, I mean, he was feared clearly, but he's a bad dude. Unfortunately, and you seeing it? It's all coming out now. I mean, he's been totally exposed. I said this before with you guys. He was the luckiest politician for a long time because he had de Blasio to kick around and deflect everything from him. And then he had the tag team of de Blasio and Trump. In New York to kick around and deflect everything, but that's really no longer the case anymore. So he's been totally exposed and we see the fraud. He is the anger that comes out in him all the time. And he's got this air of, you know, invincibility, at least in his own mind, but I think that's going to come crashing down as well with all these investigations. Is that gonna be your campaign slogan? If you run against him, vote for me, not the psycho. Good day. I can see that sitting on a bumper sticker. Yeah, that's really great on And here's the thing, Rob also, what do you make of His brother, Chris Cuomo. I mean, allegedly journalist but we know he's not. He just plays one on TV. His becoming a political advisor, you know, telling his brother hang in there? Don't resign, fight all these charges and he's had to come out on CNN and say, apologize to my colleague because it may have been inappropriate for me to do that as a supposed journalist, But again, the Cuomos. They live by their own set of rules. Remember when there was the story that Sean Hannity had the hotline to the Oval Office and we talk to the president and give him advice, which whether it was true or not, I don't know. But remember what the reaction was from the CNN's and the MSNBC's and the Red Army choir. Their helpers? Yes, yes. Resign, Resign! Shut down, Fox. You know, I think it applies TOC CNN as well, Right? I mean, look, I you know, I served time there three years Get always get parole. What have you got The world? Yes, yes. And I did love the people I work with. I liked a lot of the producers who are now on Cuomo show the bookers. I even got along with the talent. Some I really like somebody didn't but either way. There was always that standard of you know that you're like, Wait, wait who didn't like? Come on, Come on dish. Now. Don't you know like the most? I'll tell, you know, I'll tell you who I like the most. I like Erin Burnett, the most She was always the most fair. She always allowed me to talk. And when they all jumped on top of me, she was like the referee pulling them apart and letting me speak. So I think she was the most there. What did you think, Robert? That I used to see you on with him that got his name just escaped. He's the New York Times op ed guy. He's very He's very angry all the time. He's really what the heck's his name. He was the liberal Charles Blow. Charles blow? Yeah. What'd you think? Yeah, well, here's a perfect example. We had a segment once, and they're usually about seven minutes segments he was introduced. There was the first question. And it became racial when it was supposed to be racial, and he went on for about six minutes, and then it came to me and I just like, looked and said, I think we're finished. Now. There was ridiculous, but that's how that's how he always is. Every topic. Every segment. OK, Rob. It's really getting to be a crowded field for governor on the Republican side, you and Lee Zeldin of announced, And last week, Andrew Giuliani announced he was on our show, and he actually had some very nice things to say about we together. We're gonna be fighting for New York for 50 years. You know, I know robs a little older than the two of us, So maybe it's a little shorter for up. He looks younger. Better than uh Whoa. Oh, not a pot shot it off that he just looks good. He got he Rob Astorino as the best smile in politics. Well, there you go. There. That's why I'm gonna vote for Rob Know what could smile like Rob? But now, But now they have special but now they had those special little indicators on the cars that tell you if the car's coming up that you can't see Don't they have that with quarterbacks now? That's right. That's it. It's the left side because he's a right handed quarterback. Right, so the Chiefs and had they have to move there, right tackle the left tackle. There a guard to write tactical and a right guard off the bench. So you have the new left tackle tackle and right guard. That's not good. You know the whole T oven offensive line they played together. So the Chiefs are 3.5 point favorite, but I checked it. The Buccaneers have played 19 games now, including the three playoffs games, They only lost twice. By three and a hip morning, but that was both times to the saints. You see, there was a statement Boxers, John No, you were joking, but with boxers they talked about at the time. That's because of the head injuries let helmets on the boxes and Muslim said no, because we can't eat. No up side or right side peripheral vision. So No, this is but that's a fear the offensive line. I mean, that's the whole thing. God, water, says Wonder, says, Pick Tom Brady, in Tampa Bay in the Port of Wolf and the noise and the plan. How about the national anthem? And we get the economy back and we start to look like some kind of normal. Wrong with George Vladimir, the Westchester County executive. Good friend of the show. And George, Can you give us indication of well twofold how restaurants are doing and how your hospital's holding up? Well, hospitals lend are OK at this stage of the game. We have not had what you're seeing on TV out in l A, which is you've hit the maximum of the number of hospital beds. We have Round numbers appear. Um, about 15 by 500 people that are hospitalized cuckolded right now, and we've got probably five times the number of beds if we cleared everybody else out, and there are other people in hospitals for other reasons, not just elected surgery, either. So we aren't taxing yet the hospital capacity and that 100 beds that is sitting at the county center. We're meant to be back up as it haven't been used. So the hospital side we're okay depending on how much the virus continues to expand, and not just who gets positive, But he gets sick enough to have to go to the hospital. That's a smaller group of all the people that get it on the restaurant side of it, you know, uh, They established. These colors owns yellow orange. We don't have any red cells in Westchester and then the orange zones. The restaurants are functionally shut because aren't zones is not allowed for into a dining. And nobody's going outside in January to sit out in the garden to have a hot dog. So the poor Chester, the village of court, chest tightness, one community, but they have did restaurant to me has been devastated. The rest of the county is not under s severe restriction, but she still reducing the number of people that can come in door under the yellow and non zone areas and to make a buck, you know you can't have 25% of capacity. On take out that you won't be able to keep the lights on in the long haul. So you know, we really need as we've done with schools to come up with a protocol that tests and does a bunch of different things but allows some of these restaurants to have will be greater capacity and again. The virus is spreading. Not necessarily because of the restaurants. Bars were different things I think in the bar experience you do spread the virus. We've all been the bar's packed cheek to cheek but in a restaurant, weaken special people out. I think you have to, You know, you have to earn on the side trying to keep them all. Open to the greatest extent possible. Sure, just a minute left. But when we were talking with Laura Curren, the Nassau County executive yesterday, she said, Should there be a lockdown again? The full on lockdown as there is in California she would fight it. Would you fight a lockdown? Should the governor ordered Well, I don't Yeah. I don't think we're at a point. We need a full out lockdown. You know, we may get to that point, Michael. You don't know what's gonna happen how far this thing is gonna go, But I don't think we need to lock down at this point. I do think we need policies that restrict certain things. The same thing I said back in the spring, there was certain parts of our county parks system that we should close and we did play land. Kisco Dam Stuff fireworks, But there are other parts. We could keep open the golf courses and the hiking passes stuff. She's got to be rational. We gotta figure out what can stay open. What has to close and and so I don't think at this point given what we see right this minute. No, I don't think we need a locked out. All right. George Latimer, Westchester County Executive. Always appreciate the time. George. Take care of yourself. Thanks, George. Will copy. Get on a happier day. I hope I got to tell you. I'm always impressed with Laura current from Nassau County and George Latimer for Westchester County. They're not ideological people. They're really sensible. They seemed to have Ah, Ah, plan in place to handle this kind of stuff. I mean, I hope these two people have bright political future is ahead of themselves, Len, I think they could be Either one of them could be a great governor. No. I enjoy speaking with them, and they seem to be sensible. And they seem to have their feet on the ground and not looking to grab power. So you know, I salute him, You know, Wish him all the best. They're doing a great job. Yeah, you know, and they're balancing the concerns of health out with the big concerns of businesses. Both of them are so very impressed with Latimer and Laura current. Okay, coming up next Michael Negro. He's a Brooklyn based photojournalist. He was in Washington D. C yesterday. We're going to have his eyewitness account. Of the riot down in D. C. That's coming up next day. "On 7 10. W. O R. Well was a tragic day for the country yesterday, the chaos at the Capitol building with Trump supporters storming the building, breaking into the building. All the representatives and senators running for cover. Unfortunately, woman was shot there. The security, though that has got to be examined. I mean, the idea that the capital of the United States can be stormed like that. Are you kidding me? It really got investigating what was going on there. We have to keep our building safe from everybody left or right. Gotta keep People's houses safe, folks. You can't have anybody left to right breaking windows carrying Molotov cocktails. There was some pipe bombs around there. Got to stop that stuff. Stop it right now. Also in the Big Three. Joe Biden was confirmed by Congress yesterday is the next president of the United States. Trump will never concede the election, but he did put out an announcement this morning, saying that he will oversee a peaceful transition. Don't think you're going to see him at the inaugural, but I guess he is facing the facts that he lost the election and rounding out the Big Three. The Democrats dark day for America have taken control of the United States Senate and just wait. Do you see? Some of the crazy left wing policies. They are going to ram through into this country as fast as they can. Now we want to talk about the coronavirus because it's spiking. All over America. Sad to say now. My God, Los Angeles is in complete lockdown. I'm kind of frightened about what's gonna happen in our area here. So we like to like to check in from time to time with our pal, Westchester County executive. George Vladimir. Good morning, George. Good morning, Michael. How are you this day? Good good. So give us a sense of what of the coronavirus numbers looking like up in your neck of the woods. Well, they keep rising. You know, we've seen a steady rise from pretty much October through now. And, of course, the spikes that will predicted the Thanksgiving and Christmas materialized. We're waiting to see if there's a New Year's Eve spike. They say it takes two weeks from the event when people got together, You know the thing that's happening those that all the public events are shut down. There's no ball dropping. It was no Thanksgiving parade and are different communities, the suburban once as well as the big city. So all of the connections and all of the virus expansion is coming from people in private setting. You know the groups where people get together and You know, there's no there's no way to shut down what you're going to do in your backyard with your friends. So as we see it, as we see it, spike and continue to go up. We're doing what we can and everything is really about the vaccine vaccine gets out there. And people get vaccinated. That's that's the path out of this, But you know, it's not an overnight situation so well, we just have to muddle through between here to there. George. I'm concerned about the vaccine because we had Lord current on the NASA county executive, and we're just not getting information. That seems to be solid. I mean, are you getting the word out? I mean, what's what's the status? I I I I assumed just frontline workers are eligible now, But you guys getting the word out in Westchester, who's a Who's eligible and who's not. Well, and I think Laura card myself. Some of the other cat executives were all the same boat. The state of you knows you follow this thing all the way through. The state controls all the details of these things. And they have not yet established how many doses they get. How many you're gonna be given over what period of time? We know. We've got about a million people in Westchester County. And if you want everybody inoculated, we need to know over the course of the next Four months, five months, six months. I hope that longer how we're going to get a million doses. And then we can the Lord currents in the George Lavon reason the stable owns of the world. We can plan out working with hospitals to do that, by the way out here, the birds. We don't run those hospitals in the city. Mayor de Blasio runs hospitals, but Lauren I and others do not. So when you see up there, the big screen George Vladimir has to manage it. Well, George a lot of work coordinate with people, but I can't give in order to any hospital their own private up here as they are out NASA, So I think that the bottom line is we don't have what we need to know. Which is how many doses do we have An over What time friend will be? Get them because the state has established a set of priorities and you're seeing some of them getting evacuated. Now we are our county Health department. Now as we speak our inoculating frontlines hospital workers and were inoculated. BMS people. That's a relatively small cohort of the home. You know of the whole group of people that has to get shot. You know, we have the county center in White Plains. You're familiar with a 19 thirties era exhibit whole basketball arena, and that is a facility we can use. For, you know for inoculations, But if you're going to inoculate everybody you got to do with local You're gonna have to get into the neighborhoods where people live, and I'm going to get the car in drive 10 Miles to get a shot, So we've got a lot of work ahead of us. Hey, George, Do you have some frustration with Albany and in particular Governor Cuomo Lane. They knew this vaccine was coming months ago. Shouldn't they have had a better faster rollout plan? Well, Michael, you know, to be honest with you. I think it starts in Washington because you know if, if you the president of United States, I'm sure what you would have done is laid out a plan got in the governor's on board that it isn't every governor doing his own thing. It's a centralized plan Top down. That didn't happen. So now you have every governor do his or her own thing. And you know, and when you sit up and what's just a county, you know what Connecticut's right next door and Jersey is right next door, so people Naturally, look at what's happening in other states because they're right there. And so we're constantly looking at, you know, we need to be more transparent. We need to project to the public. Exactly What we know at this point, I don't know. Things that that you would want me to know. And I would tell Republican my count as fast as I have, and I think that's really pushing for again..
