With another mini episode last week. We talked Beto and his electability this week. We're talking about Donald as in President, Donald Trump and his approval ratings. Well, folks, it's no secret. If you've been following the polls over the course of the Trump administration that the president isn't exactly popular that's come. Despite the fact that his economic approval ratings have been quite high. Indeed earlier this week the president hit an all time high in his economic approval rating, according to Gallup yet his approval rating continues to be stuck in the low to mid forties. The question is why why is it that voters aren't connecting their economic portrayal of the president with their overall portrayal of the president. Well, I think there might be something to the fact that Americans don't think that the president is fighting on behalf of them, for example, and. A Quinnipiac university poll this week only thirty nine percent of Americans said that the president cared about quote unquote, average Americans his approval rating in that same poll was thirty nine percent. In other words, if you believe that the president cared about average Americans you therefore approved of the job he was doing. And if you didn't think the president was carrying about the average American then you disapprove, the job he was doing. Indeed when you look across the cross tabs in this particular, Paul you basically see a one for one whether it's based on age race or gender. These particular groups if they approved of the job that the president was doing they also thought that he cared about the average American, and if they disapproved of the job, the president was doing then they didn't think he cared about the average American and I went back since the beginning of the Trump administration. We see a pretty strong correlation between how voters feel about the presence job over all and whether or not they feel he cares about the average American that correlation may be becoming stronger over the course of the Trump administration over the last year in particular, it's been very strong. There's just been an average to. Point difference between the approval rating of the president that voters give and whether or not they think he cares about the average American this, of course, is very bad news, potentially for the president heading into the next presidential election because unless he can get the percentage of people who say, hey, we think you care about us to go up his overall approval rating will stay down. Let's forget about Trump for just one second here. Let's take a look back at the last three presidents who ran for and won reelection President Bill Clinton President George W Bush President Barack Obama when we look back at their polling and see whether or not the average American felt that these presents cared about the quote unquote average American or cared about the voter in particular that was being asked the question that survey we see that Clinton Bush and Obama had at least fifty one percent of voters in the final poll saying that. Yes, these presidents cared about the problems that these voters were facing. And of course, these three. Presents were reelected. Take one step back even further who was the last president who wasn't reelected that was George. Herbert Walker Bush. You might remember during the infamous townhall debate between Bush Bill Clinton and Ross Perot that George. Herbert Walker Bush was criticized for not being able to answer voters question about how the recession impacted him personally. Indeed polling at that time showed that on average voters really didn't feel that Bush cared so much about the average American or at least understood their problems in the this is the canary in the coal mine for President Trump right now, if you look at his ratings on the average American question, and you look back at the last four presidents and see who does his ratings. Most look like they looked like George. Herbert Walker Bush is at the end of his presidency. That's not good news for President Trump heading into two thousand twenty that's all for this week folks, by the way, I don't know about you. But I'm feeling a little thirsty, and I'm also feeling a little hungry. So why don't we had over to win? As for four for four. You know, you can get it. So that they put in the frostiest windy. Just great. Oh, by the way, if you liking these episodes, why not subscribe on your favorite podcast place, whether it be apple Stitcher.
