It's a carny, a chilly birdie burrito with Carnitas from Lhasa, Gabe's and Westlake Village. Where was my number one place to go once I could finally Get out and about their two bartenders there at close to Gabe's and Westlake Village, Enrique and Michelle. And if you want a margarita to freshen up your life, Layla Mohammed or not just your day, your life your life. Oh, wow, your life the whole life. And but I didn't want to have a margarita here. Well, actually do rose. Gonna stay trying to have a break. Shannon would have a margarita. She would You know what? Her and me together you? Oh, that would be a train wreck. My guy would sign up to see that one. All right. Thank you were covering several stories right now. It looks like the GOP and the bite administration are getting closer. A compromise on the infrastructure bill. But right now we are going to again talk briefly about the one year anniversary of the George Floyd. Killing because on ABC Tonight there is a special which is being co hosted by T. J. Holmes. Who joins us right now, T. Joyce. TJ. Thank you. What are we going to see on this special? Well, well, not margaritas. My goodness. I came upon the end of that discussion. What do y'all talking about? Over there? We're talking about. Well, it's l a honey. It's l A. It's always margarita time here. Yeah, that's quite all right. And you know you'll I appreciate the smile because it's it's been a bit of a heavy day on a lot of ways Never know how you're gonna feel when you wake up on a day like this. It's just I had no idea. I have been in a little bit of Ah funded reflecting on the year that's been and I know all of us. In some way, former fact has been touched by touch by the past year, you know? So so I appreciate the smile. Well, tell me what the special is going to visit tonight. What sorts of topics are you going to cover? Well, guys, we're gonna We're gonna take a look back, and we're not. We're not gonna rehash the day he died. We're not gonna rehash the court case. You're not gonna rehash the trial. We're not going to go through all that again. In fact, you are not going to see a frame of video from The death of George Well, We made it editorial decision not to do that. But instead we're trying to go back and look at the year that Woz and how much we did go through. And what I mean by that is When you think about this past year because of the death of George Boole, you started saying things like Um, Confederate monuments fall you started seeing, um People changing the name of their syrup, Right and your mama Though there are little things as irrelevant as they may seem and small, they belong in a larger picture and the larger conversation of how George Floyd kind of awakened in Almost all of us. I made us more aware of some of the decisions. We're making some of the conversations. We're having some of the things we're saying, and so we're kind of looking back at the year that Woz and how far we did come in the past year and what we did go through, and we're talking to all the people who had so much of a role in that from its family members to his lawyers to it. That certainly out Sharpton, who had that phrase, right, get your knee off our necks. He talked about how he came up with that line in the first place. So We're just gonna We're gonna look back at the year, but not necessarily at that event that set off the year and see where we can go from here for you personally, TJ. Was there a moment or what? High point and a low point over the last year. In other words, were you seen and heard in the news operation in ways you never have been before. Were you willing to say things you never have before? Is there a story Those absolutely 100% and I'll be as honest as I can with you guys is that we? We have the same issues that ABC news that a lot of newsrooms have, which is the lack of diversity and a lack of diversity when it comes to a lot of higher ups. When George Boy was killed, that diversity was worse. We're certainly getting better at it. Absolutely so, So get me wrong. But at the time there was a lack of editorial voices, including the voice of a black man. In our newsroom, helping putting our shows together at a time when the experience of black men was needed to be understood more than ever. So, I kid you not Almost every single morning. That after George Floor died, I was in tears getting ready for work because I was doing that story every day. So I'm looking at that video every day. I am getting my words together every day thinking about that man. Being lynched in front of all of us the modern day lynching so Yeah, that experience that that low point I'm not sure where it Woz. I'm not sure if I bottomed out, but I know I felt an experience that every single day in a way, I didn't even understand. I'd give a lot of my producers Senior producers credit that they leaned on me today. You think we're doing this right? They TJ You think this is the right way We could go about 80. Jade. Is this the right and I appreciated that and I took that on. They tried to give me all Days off today. If you need a break from this story, let us know And I would absolutely not do it because I'd rather do the story and do it. Quote unquote right then to have anyone and put it in anybody else's hands. So We all have toe We all had to tip in in some way over the past year, some had to listen more on. Some had to speak up more. Is the MO mentum dying, or is this different This time? Where you think In another year or two, we will see. Very different America in terms of Police training and Black men and women in high positions of authority and the business world or wherever I don't think we can go back from this. I really, really don't wait. Look we read about and talk about. We hear stories from folks who were from Emmett till That was a moment that won't the country up. Just his mother being willing that have that casket opened his mother being willing to have that child's face photographed as they look at what they did to my son. And now all of us got the witness in a way that wait a minute. We way here. We've been hearing black men talk about how they were treated by police. There is zero denying what we also in the video, So I think in that respect that is for us and our generation. Going to be that type of a moment that will change us forever. And so how does it change that you talk about on again? I keep going back to because it seems small, but there's gonna be a generation of kids that now grow up. Not walking down the aisle in the grocery store looking at Hey, Jim. I'm on some syrup. Now. That's seemingly a minor thing. But now that child or that next generation is not being trained to see that were Confederate monument, where someone from the Confederacy is being celebrated, and now they're seeing more people on TV. That baby look like them and we're normalizing people in high office. There are black and Brown and now all of these things, it might not happen for us guys, and then are all this change in our generation. But that thing is happening is going to continue to happen, and it is It is better for us all, not just with the black and Brown is gonna be good for the entire country to be a more inclusive and a kinder On day kind of country and give up against humanity and a respect to life that George Boy didn't get that day. TJ Holmes. Thank you so much for joining us. The special on ABC tonight. A 10 PM is called after Floyd the year that shook the world A soul of a nation special. Thanks for joining us. Play. Thank you all so much for the time will take care of this, okay? I'll be back after the break. With more news. Jane Wells filling in for Gary and Shannon KF, I.

And so for you know the ca to throw its hands up. You know my denomination when we you know. We could only preach the gospel now. You can do a lot more. You're literally all the places that are the problem right now. You could be turning the tide you could be bringing people together. You could be preaching a gospel of liberation instead. What what what. Most mainline denominations have done a split. The difference they spent the last four years because they know conservative gives more and this is really the progressives progressives. Don't give the church. So why would they listen to you. Just just thinking about survival. Institutionally right if i if i'm an 'institutionalised i know my main base does not believe in black lives matter. I know my main base does not believe that people should be a firm. I'm talking to financially right. Yeah i also filter press play partners to we don't invest right and look i'm all for not investing in the institution but where's that investment going right so so so that's the other thing too. Why would they listen to us at the time. So they split the difference. They they they say these things they put out these statements that go right down the middle right because all they care about preserving their institution they no longer care for the people of god and they have advocated their responsibilities systemically across mainline denominations. Just have they. I mean do what we can end in those is. Here's in a year. If every major mainland bishops showed up to every ice hearing in their area and just sat there and fool were not saying a word to remind that judge that the eyes of god are upon them. Right and judge because judges after run for office every prosecutor. 'cause da's have to run for office right every federal person right. Who realized that the senator there is the one put them there and if they remove the center they're screwed right. They realized that presents thousands of people who are outrage so outraged. They sent the respective representative of their entire religion to watch. You know that kind of stuff know that they didn't do any of that. They put out these statements. They put out letters. They had these teachings anti racism training. That shit has never worked in the history of america and and they refuse to do the real work. The real word. What would i meant when george floor died. "Because when there is justice for George flooring we will truly be on our way to racial justice in America okay I don't even know what it means you know he means when he says racial justice that's a pretty that's a pretty big phrase what is racial justice made to me anytime you add a modifier before justice you're doing something wrong there's no such thing as social justice there's justice justice is that if you get what you deserve right source I didn't deserve to die so he was treated with injustice racial justice is the idea that you by dint of your rates are deserving of something I don't think you by dint of your answers are gonna anything either good or bad I don't think you control your rates I think the idea of a political racial justice that idea is is patently absurd on its face simply because D. the idea that you again ought to be given something solely on the basis of race is silly just like social justice is only there's only individual justice George fully deserved individual justice no one deserves racial justice people deserve individual justice they deserve what they deserve it is our every opportunity it is our freedom it is our liberty it is if we treated as individual human beings because you're not just a member of racial group during individual so I don't know what you're by no means by that is a phrase that sounds nice because anytime you see justice and then add anything before that sounds nice but that but unless you're going to unpack that phrase isn't it is a meaningless must raise and again I wonder if if people in that crowd knew that what he was talking about was adding more funding for police whether they would be on board with his conception of racial justice because that is what Joe Biden has set at this point it's important meal again justice justice justice is what is deserved everybody should have justice but anytime you're modifier from justice you've now moved away from the world of justice and towards something that is less just so speaking of things that are not just we are now moving into the need to Iraq for racism is the is the new declaration what this means is not that we are going to identify instances of you doing something bad to another human being we're going to dig up instances of things that do not meet with the approval of the what police then we are going to ruin your life over them and this is being done by our journalistic buyer journalistic banners very exciting stuff you know the the business of journalism becomes incredibly easy when all you have to do a search somebody's old tweets this is a journalism usually that involves you know tracking down actual stories but now journalism is basically fine Gael freshman and then you go back into her face book posts and you find something of racially insensitive and then you ruin her and this is making the world a better place so there is a girl I'm a girl because young woman who goes to jail her name is Amanda rose apparently and she's I believe eighteen years old there's a woman in Sky Jackson well I've never heard of before but she's been going around on Twitter basically trying to uncover people's bad old posts I don't know who this person is but she decided that she was going to go after this this this person who's just yell at me T. or post that was that was put out what ten years ago five years ago years ago the end for which is already apologized apparently and it's a it's a the only post about it when she I think it's from one to fifteen is the idea here in which she uses the N. word yes that's very bad that's bad should you have a life ruined over that I don't know on that she was fifteen years old this is the new standard that if you say something when you're fifty years old are gonna run you and a lot of lot of people's lives again but we understand that that is not the actual standard here right that's not the actual standard at all because if your Ice Cube and you put out black Hebrew Israelite propaganda on your Twitter feed and if you put out like actual cue in on anti semitism you're totally fine to Ice Cube was five point three million Twitter followers we have an openly anti semitic sure it's a picture of a bunch of old Jewish men sitting over a monopoly board that is built on the back of brown people and it is F. the new normal until they fix the old normal as ice cube face any blowback is gonna lose any jobs over this of course I he's a hero of the Republic thank you in other words the only people who are to be targeted here are people who have the wrong skin color or don't sufficiently valuable crap metal even if you've got the whole crowd is not enough because then the next minute okay is what you done for us lately that is the next move and this New York times editor makes this completely clear name is Asia Harrison op ed staff editor and writer is a piece it is one of most immoral piece I have ever seen inference is called this you it definitely is and it's all about calling people out for their sins of the past but it's not really about atonement it's not really about making the world a better place what it really is about a shame you into doing things that we want you to do with the threat of your career that's really what this is about this is why you have.
