"Dirt on Wtmj 85561616 20 again. Let me just say I have. I have no idea whether this guy was legitimately entitled to the unemployment compromise that he got it. He was initially were awarded it so he got $10,000. Now the state is looking at it. And upon further investigation, they have determined they don't think that he's entitled to it. So they're saying we want the money back now. He's fighting that determination. My only point is, if it turns out he wasn't entitled to it in the first place. I think he has to pay it back. Terry, you're on Wtmj. Good afternoon. Yep, New Jeff. I got a potentially similar situation and I'm questioning the state of Wisconsin because in my case I was told that I didn't qualify for unemployment. I was a lift and uber driver and I have my own business and I was told I filed I was told they didn't qualify because I was an independent contractor and I went on and filed Purpura. Which took forever. It wasn't until August, I finally had an agent. Get ahold of me. And interview me at length asked me a lot of questions. I gave accurate answers, and I was ultimately told that I did qualify. Started to Do do do the filings. They paid me all the back pain. And now I'm hearing lift is challenging the fact that I should be an independent contractor, and there's a hearing set up coming and I may end up having to pay all this money back in my opinion is The state had two shots at me, and they still made a mistake. And now I'm gonna be on the hook for the money. So you're right. Your position would be that Let me just ask it with the state, then have been better off. You're not sending you the money in the first place. And just saying OK, we're gonna put a hold on. This will make you wait 69 months or whatever, because there might be this issue. See, That's the problem States and it's like, okay, we want to get people paid because we think it's legit. And then then there's another objection to it. So I mean, I guess I would think you'd be better off getting the money and then trying to argue why you're entitled to keep it if you follow me. Well, I would have qualified for pool so I would have still got something. But then, when they said that I was I was It's not an independent contractor, right? No longer qualified for poor They put me on the regular. And by the way, I filed like the end of March. It took until August. So this wasn't something that they were rushing to give me the money. No, you know that. No thanks. You know, and I'm looking at I I understand. You get caught up in this this bureaucracy, and I mean it sounds to me your your biggest beef is with with lift and, you know, go to the hearing and demonstrate that you're entitled to it. I guess that's That that that's the point might. My bigger point is, if you if we're complaining about the Department of Workforce Development and our our beef is that you they didn't pay claims in a timely fashion, or they're taking too long to adjudicate these type of claims you and we want people paid quicker. If they pay somebody quickly, and then it turns out that they paid somebody in error. I don't think we can fairly say Well, okay, it it's their problem. No, we want him to pay it quickly. And if it turns out they made an error. I think the person who got that money erroneously is on the hook to pay it back. Like I say, Just just as you would, if you know you made the iris made him stake in auditing your taxes. And since your money back, and then it determined that you weren't entitled to get it, and look, I hope the guys able to keep his 10 grand. I hope this because I understand it's going to be a hardship to go and expect him to have to pay back $10,000, but from the perspective of the overall system If he got it erroneously seems to me he has to pay it back. 12 31, Let's go to the WTMJ breaking news Center. "President Trump's Wisconsin recount request Coming hand delivered to the State Elections Commission Wednesday, replete with his signature and a $3 million payment, recounting starting tomorrow in Milwaukee and Dane counties, the Trump campaign, claiming the state Elections Commission directed municipal clerks to illegally alter incomplete absentee ballots. That the Democratic County clerks told voters to illegally mischaracterized that they were indefinitely confined to circumvent Wisconsin's voter ID law. Milwaukee County Clerk George Christensen is live on the first Midwest Bank hotline to speak to that and so much more. Thank you for joining us this morning. So is or any of those allegations. True, sir. No, No, they're not. Good morning. Um, no. With respect, Tonto indefinitely confined voters themselves. Make that decision. And that issue was, uh, was, um, addressed in the April election. Right? When the coronavirus first hit, Uh, we had put out a Memo to two minutes. What clerks let the indicating that if, uh if people felt that they could not get to, um the polls safely, then they could. That was one of their actions under the law and On and then subsequently, after the April election, municipal clerks sent out a notice in the letter to two of orders that were on that list, asking them if they wish to remain on it, and against quarters had a second chance that, of course, to make up their own minds. So that was a personal decision for each voter. To determine whether or not they were indefinitely confined and had no bearing whatsoever on this presidential election. George We're seeing reports from across the country that elections officials are getting death threats and there are threats being issued against their families. And I just find this so unbelievably disturbing. Has that been the case for Milwaukee area elections officials. My staff at the Election Commission has received some some disturbing threatening type of Of phone calls. I don't believe we've had a death threat. At this point. I believe asleep. One or two of the cause were referred to the D. A's office s O. They were serious enough to warrant that type of referral. George, the Trump campaign could have done a statewide recount. Instead, they chose only to do date in Milwaukee counties. There's one school of thought that says they don't have the money to do a statewide recount. There's another school of thought that says they're just centering on Democratic strongholds. What do you say? What I think nationally, Their strategy has been haphazard at best, so we weren't really sure what they were going to do. Um and e think they're just throwing paint on the wall and see what sticks. Um, they chose Madison and uh and Marquis of Dane and in Milwaukee. Kony's For the reason that they're democratic leaning and also Marquis County, of course, has a large African American population. And and, uh, I think they're trying to target that population again. Which is unfortunate. Um so I I think it's just, uh you know, an unfortunate sign of the times. In the political environment. We live in a longer. I'm confident that our recount, of course, will come through. Just as past recounts have with very little change. If any Milwaukee County clerk George Christensen live on the first Midwest Bank hotline on WTMJ, and you make a really good point, George. I mean, we have gone through recounts before, and it's typically only a couple 100 votes that might get tossed or or go one way or the other. This would require a massive Overturning of balance in order to put President Trump on top in these two counties, and I also understand that there at least from the Republican side there are concerned about some particular voting machines or software, which was not actually even used in Milwaukee ordained counties. Well, that's correct one of their conspiracy theories that somehow, uh, Dominion machines, which is a brand name brand Dominion were somehow tampered with. And, um and that's that doesn't apply to us there. Are a limited number of counties that use Dominion. We use a different vendor. And, uh, the administration of federal ministrations has even said that this was the most secure election in history. So, um, there's that's just completely unfounded and And doesn't really even apply in this case for us, George other reports of what was what a e. I guess we could safely call a rocky start to the re compress his last night, the Elections Commission meeting, and it was what 5.5 hours lot of partisan bickering back and forth allegations between the three Democrats in the three Republicans in all this business in the bottom line. Seems to me that all this is gonna wind up in court. It is What do you think when you hear that kind of reporting from last night? Well, I actually was on the call as an observer for six hours. It ended at about midnight. Um and I can say it was definitely a tedious to listen to and watch. Um And I think that there needs to be a new approach. There needs to be a bipartisan effort to to put together some type of, uh, task force or something to to address. You know any issues that that either party might have, Um, because, uh, that response Election Commission is set up. To do nothing. That's it set up that way too stale me 333 Democrats and three Republicans. I feel s Oh, sorry for the staff that worked so hard and try to provide the best advice they can. On Lee to just have issues when it gets to the commission level on day. So it's just very, very frustrating for for, um, election officials and clerks and people who really take their job seriously and try to work hard to make sure we have efficient elections and let me also note that Much of the bakery was about the recount manual that they provide clerks as a guide, and it is a guide. The election Commission, SIM City, our marquee county Election Commission and Dane, the board of Canvassers during the recount their the decision makers. Uh, we have a three member commission here, Marquis County. They will be the decision makers. The recount manual is a guide. And so that just again speaks back to what I was saying earlier, that little Scott's election commission, huh? I've been able to create law or anything. I'm nature. So, um, that was a long meeting for for people to sort of spend their wheels Milwaukee County Clerk George Christians and live on the first Midwest Bank hotline on Wtmj. "Com slash joy Furthermore the speaker's lobby one of the biggest issues facing Congress wants the coronavirus scourge passes is the exploration as to whether the house and Senate can remotely vote in extreme emergencies their constitutional questions about whether lawmakers actually have to be on the floors of the house and Senate and be physically present article one section five of the constitution describes how there needs to be a quorum in both bodies to conduct business however one body or the other would implement proxy voting or distance voting the other body may refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of the system in the other chamber thus the suggestion is that the alternative system be bi cameral that said the constitution grants both bodies the right to create their own rules there's discussion of encrypted digitizes them for lawmakers to vote remotely in extraordinary circumstances no one can build such a system amid this crisis but took the house of representatives three years back in the nineteen seventies to develop its current electronic voting system and if they were to rush now they don't want the new system to be the second coming of the app which was used for the Iowa democratic caucus speaker's lobby Chad Pergram fox news programs on newstalk eleven thirty WISN or broadcaster the annex wealth management studio annex wealth management know the difference my current welcome back to making the kind of show trying to trying to rein in I rage you see I'm afraid that I might be able to beat our broadcast delay system here if I get too amped up because I pretty sure I can string profanities together that last longer than ten seconds I'm pretty sure I can do that I've never done that on the air but I'm but I'm I'm close to two that took to that risk seven Cheryl how are you Senate Majority Leader thank you for being on my program wow so the governor has called you all into session tomorrow and he wants you to pass legislation that would basically create the same conditions of the Green Bay lawsuit which is shutting down in person voting vastly extending the amount of time the election would go on turning it into an all mail election and mailing ballots to voters including the two hundred six thousand that ought to be removed from the voting rolls because they don't live at their addresses any longer right now this is gone from this governor and his cohorts including US senator Tammy Baldwin I stopped tweeting yesterday about this the mayor of Milwaukee Chris Larsen and running for county exactly who all of these people the clerks in both Spain and in Milwaukee county they they have gone from being disingenuous to D. V. S. R. S. thank they are now looking people straight in the eyes poll workers clerks around the state in saying we got your back we're we're going to pull the plug on this election and at the same time under the table continuing to push the idea that we think we got the Supreme Court race in the bag we think we've got these other elections leading our way so guess what we're gonna say one thing publicly we're going to do another thing behind the scenes it's amazing what they are trying to do right now so you you basically we we've seen stories you know X. number of polling locations are not staffed with poll workers is that because people in the administration are telling the poll workers that's okay are they creating the conditions where people are indicating they are not going to show up in Maine the man the polls just think of the ways that they have devised a plan to avoid the statute to make sure that these things are not being run in a legal fashion everything from the high profile stuff like photo ID to not having anybody witnessed the absentee ballot to pushing the idea that harvesting ballots after the election day is going to be okay literally looking for votes out there I mean it's just one thing after another that they have tried to exploit this whole corona virus issue as this is a way we can finally run the elections the way we want which is to slant them towards one party or another so you know obviously they've got a judge in Dane county in their in their back pocket we are we are not rolling over on this by any means both the trump team the RNC and the Republicans both Republican Party Wisconsin and the legislature we're in the seventh circuit being right now to try and get some type of response that will stop them from trying to steal this election so the response in it where you are right now is to challenge the extension of voting till April thirteenth with with some other provisions that that Connolly put in there that quite honestly you know we're not sure if the if the court will hear those arguments so we're waiting for them to respond in and by the way we don't know but the Democrat National Committee also now says a wait time out seven circuit we want to weigh in on this too so this will be interesting to see what their angle is in the seventh circuit in Chicago because you know they could come in and say just postpone the entire election but I don't necessarily think that that may be there again they may be in there pushing again under the table to make sure that this election moves forward so it's it's unbelievable I'm I'm reading here from person I know who's involved in county and in handling county affairs who says governor lied to our faces last week so in and then went on to explain that the governor said nothing about wanting to cancel an election you know and only and we we saw publicly printed stories about the governor's sending the National Guard to help man polling locations if there weren't enough poll workers apparently also talking to county leaders and saying no no we're gonna help you guys out on this don't worry about it and that was apparently just a flat out bold faced lie I've been a conference calls with Tony Evers in which he said we are not going to delay the election we are going to continue to make sure that this election happens and as you said we're gonna be accommodating we're gonna work with the clerks were gonna work with the National Guard we're gonna figure out a way getting the stock we don't want to delay the selection I've been on conference calls where that's the information he's relaying to the legislative leaders as well as everybody else on there this eight eight it's unbelievable this is this is see YA like you've never seen it before I don't even think it's the way I think it's just I I think it's just how the Democrats view the Republicans it's okay to lie to your face and then just simply work behind the scenes to see if you can't undermine the integrity of the voting process in Wisconsin and the reason I think this is happening is because I think they think they've got it in the bag of it's an absentee only vote absolutely I know that they're pushing for that and it you know I don't see that the mayor Barrett is taking his TV commercials off the air I'm seen hundreds of thousands of dollars being spent right now now this is this is storm believable I think you know what they're gonna do is they're gonna throw this whole election into a different place who knows what's good what this is gonna look like after the seventh they're going to raise the suspicion level amongst voters to a level that we've never seen before people are legitimately going to lose faith in this election because of what the governor is doing right now trying to have it both ways working one message under the table and publicly saying look at me I'm the I'm the knight in shining armor they came in at the last minute down ridiculous you know I said this and you know some folks accuse me of being a conspiracy theorist on this but when you take a look at order number eight and then you take a look at order number twelve or number eight order number twelve you know a look almost identical except for the language about stay at home and I I in you were also with legislative leadership was told that Tony Evers wasn't good issue a stay at home orders there's an awful lot of of you know miscommunication if we're being kind or just flat out lying in for being probably does it accurate right so we've got a substantially similar order order twelve to order eight only the language is stay at home in order twelve and all of a sudden all of these these balls start start you know flying around we got to Green Bay lost we got the league of women voters lawsuit we got Meg Scott McDonnell and George Christensen in Dane county and Milwaukee county telling people not to bother with with photo ID an absentee ballots in marking themselves indefinitely confined we've got other shenanigans that are going on suddenly Tony Iverson here a week later caps off the week by saying yeah I think we should we should do all of these things that all of these people have been suing to demand including a ballot harvesting and I'm going to it I'm the great you know I care so much about you these rotten Republicans I'm gonna call into an emergency session they're going to be the ones that are going to be you know that forced to either you know accommodate the fear that I've created in the last week or your try to maintain voter integrity and of course that will result in multiple editorials calling you guys you know we wanna be killers of little old ladies from corona virus yet for sticking to the statutes and abiding by the law that that's what we're being accused of you know just make one other point so they're they're wacky kind of crazy third party groups that are out there does it come up in some of these meetings as well and the one is sold to the polls you know who have been calling for a complete delay from day one ignore them when it came up are you gonna be able to hold the position that you want the selection will forward absolutely absolutely absolutely so you know it's not like this is like a question it just came up yesterday I mean this is been going on actually since the twelfth of March is when this started when those first ballots went out this question has come up day after day after day and their position has always bad no we want the election to go off and we will do everything within our power to make sure it happens and you know more than disingenuous this is DBS they are absolutely working both sides of the I agree and here's the thing if you take a look at that I just had somebody sent me a picture from the Monroe Walmart what Walmart is doing and I'm not sure this is going on across Wisconsin but they're having people six feet apart they got axes in a queue you stand you wait when two people come out to get to go in there is a way to do this and instead of trying to trying to spend the last week and a half or two weeks you know enhancing people's sense of of of physical safety in the process of voting in person that hasn't been happening instead chaos has been amped up day after day and then just an additional pressure of chaos per day until today's announcement the Tony Evers wants to drag you guys in the session I guess I'm taking from your comments to Scott that the let the Republicans don't have any intention of giving him what he wants now we're fighting this thing right up to the end I'd I'd I don't want to.
