A highlight from An Old Womans Laughter

"Welcome to Gospel in Life. Throughout the Bible, there are signs that point us to the gospel. Today, Tim Keller is looking at how we can discover them and what they teach us. The passage on which the teachings base is found in your bulletin. Let me read it to you. Genesis 21, verses one to seven. Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah, as he had said. And the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age. At the very time God had promised him, Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. And when his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him as God had commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. And Sarah said, God has brought me laughter. And everyone who hears about this will laugh with me. And she added, who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age. This is God's word. Why, in these morning services here in the fall, are we rummaging around in documents that are so ancient that they're called the Old Testament? I mean, how relevant is that? Very relevant. My wife, Kathy, tore out an article for me out of Mademoiselle Magazine, September 97. Very up to date. And surprising article, because it was by Naomi Wolf, who's a very sharp and pretty well known feminist author. And the title of the article is, Coming Out for God, subtitle, OK, I Pray, So Why Do I Feel So Funny Talking About It? And in the article, she basically says that she has come into a spiritual search. She has decided there's got to be more. And she is looking for God, and she's searching for God, and she's searching for spirituality. And at one point, she says, it's really all coming down to this. And she's not saying she arrived, but this is what she says she's coming down to. She says, beyond it all, I have the increasingly pressing question. This is the increasingly pressing question. What the heck does God want me to do, and how do I figure it out? What does God want me to do, and how do I figure it out? And when you ask the question, how do you figure out what God wants of me, that's the question of sources. Where do I go to find out what God's will is? And really, classically, there's really only two basic answers over the years. The one answer is look outside to some authoritative text, to some authoritative resource. Look outside to the objective. And on the other hand, the other kind of answer has been, well, you look inside. You look to the inner light. You look to the subjective. You look to your heart. You look to your experience. Now, the wonderful thing about the Old Testament that really needs to be understood, besides the fact that it's a book that's considered holy by Jews and Christians and Muslims, is with the Old Testament, you don't have to choose. What's great about the Old Testament is you have authoritative theological teaching, but it's always teaching in the form of stories, always teaching in the form of real human experiences. So last week, we looked at the existential despair of the teacher in Ecclesiastes. This week, we look at laughter. We will look at bitterness. You look at real human experiences, and the Old Testament says in those real human experiences, you've got pointers to God. You've got clues to God, but by going to the Old Testament, you not only look at human experience, you also do it in a way that people have been going to for years through the centuries, the Old Testament. Instead of being self -accredited, instead of just saying, well, I've looked at my heart, now I know what God wants, you're looking into the human heart, into human experience, and therefore into your own experience, but in the Old Testament, a place where millions of people over the centuries have found God. And that way, you can trust, so you don't have to choose, and that's why we're going to these great accounts. Now, in this account, we are looking at a particular experience, and that is a woman laughing because her only child has been born, but it's an incredibly old woman we have here. We have a woman who's 90 years old here, and we're told in the Bible that this laughter is a clue to who God is and what He's done, and how do you find Him? The reason that I read this little section, which many of you may not have even ever heard, even though you may have heard the story of Abraham and Sarah, is I think this is the fulcrum. This is actually the midpoint. This is actually the key, because all of Abraham and Sarah's life and all the fascinating incidents can all be understood in terms of the name of their son, because the word Isaac means laughter, means laughter. God has brought me laughter, and all who hear will laugh with me, and you can understand all of their life, and actually I think eventually you'll be able to understand all of your life, through the word yisak, Isaac, laughter, because there's been three kinds of laughter. If you read the story of Abraham and Isaac, there's three kinds of laughter, and only the last one is the best. They had to go through two other kinds to get to the third. What are these three kinds of laughter? First of all, first you see in the history of Abraham and Sarah, you see the laughter of scoffing, the laughter of disbelief, the shallow laughter of disbelief. If you go way back into the passage, go deep, you'll see back in Genesis 12, God comes to Abraham and says, I'm going to give you a son. A son will be born to you through Sarah, and through that son you will have a descent, a group of descendants will become a great nation, and through that nation, all the nations of the world will be blessed.

Fresh update on "genesis" discussed on The Eric Metaxas Show

"Welcome back. I'm talking to Dr. Douglas Grotheist, professor of philosophy at Denver Seminary. The new book is World Religions in Seven Sentences. It seems to me that one of the things missing from some of the Eastern religions that you've touched on are the ideas of joy and love. There seems to be a bleakness or a blankness at the heart of some of these philosophies. In other words, they seem to be anti-human, as though the goal of life is to transcend life, which not only is it unappealing, but it seems very, very confusing. I think when you were talking about Nietzsche's view of Christianity, sometimes Christianity has been twisted in those directions so that people, whether Nietzsche or Mark Twain or other people, they have been responding to a bastardized version of Christian faith, a version of Christian faith that is kind of bleeding toward gnostic view or those kinds of things. The biblical faith is not that kind of a faith. It's a very human, grounded faith. God comes to redeem matter. He doesn't tell us just to transcend matter. But that's exactly the opposite of what you're describing in some of the Eastern religions. Well, it is. And you have to go back to the nature of God and the creation that God brought forth. So we're told in Genesis that God created one kind of thing after another. And he says it is good. It is good. After he creates human beings, he says it is very good. And we're told in Genesis that we're made in the image and likeness of God. And that is a teaching that's found in exactly one religious book, the Bible. It's not found in any other religious book. In fact, recently, I'm not going to get political on this, but recently Vivek Ramaswami was asked about his beliefs. He said, well, I'm a Hindu. And as a Hindu, I believe everyone is made in the image and likeness of God. And I went, whoa. Wait a minute. What version of Hinduism is that? That's called American cultural Hinduism, which is actually not Hinduism. Yeah. Right. Now, Hinduism teaches the exact opposite, which is the caste system, that human beings are born into specific castes and they cannot change castes within their lifetime. It's based on karma and reincarnation, two other things the Bible, two things the Bible does not teach. And it was fascinating. I just wrote a little article on that, which will probably come out in the stream fairly soon. But there's exactly one religious book, one sacred scripture that teaches we're made in the image and likeness of God. And that's the Bible. You don't find it in Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism. It's not in Islam either, because Islam teaches that Allah is so transcendent, so beyond us, that to say we're made in his image is actually considered blasphemy in Islam. But of course, being made in the image of God, according to the Bible, means that we reflect God, we represent God, we have certain qualities, we have creativity, we have relationality, rationality. But of course, we're infinitely short of being the uncreated creator. So there's still a distinction, a big gap between us and God. But according to personality, God is an infinite personality and we are finite personalities. And so the setup, metaphysically, is that God can speak to us, God can communicate to us, we can relate to God. The lines of communication, at least in terms of the basics of creation, are open. The problem is sin. You know, the problem is rebellion against God. And that's exactly why Christ came, is to atone for our sin. It's funny when you bring up Vivek Ramaswamy making that statement, that, oh, I'm a Hindu and I believe we're all made in God's image. And it just reminds me that when somebody claims to be some religion, chances are they're full of baloney. In other words, many times people say I'm a Christian, and you talk to them and you realize they don't have any idea of the most basic teachings. And I think that you find this a lot in the United States, that people identify as this or that, but they don't even know the basics of it, really. So that they're actually only, he's a cultural Hindu, which is to say not a Hindu, but there are many people that are cultural Catholics or cultural Christians or cultural Muslims. I meet them every day in New York. They don't really, they just kind of identify tribally. You know, I grew up in Saudi Arabia or I grew up here, so I guess I'm a Muslim. Which is interesting to me because we are, that's why it's important that people understand what these religions teach and don't believe the lie that they're all sort of the same. Your book, of course, titled World Religions in Seven Sentences, because the differences among them are very dramatic. I mean, it just, you know, in the little bit we're touching on right now, you start realizing that.

"Father, I thank you, it's you that changes hearts. And so Father, I just pray that you be glorified this morning. And Father, again, just be with me as I share. I just pray in Jesus' name, amen. So my passion in the creation movement has been reaching young people. So you'll notice I'm kind of young people oriented. So really I'm almost intimidated coming before you today just hoping that I have something of value to offer to you. So that has been my prayer. You know, I've got a friend by the name of Dr. Dan Biddle who is the president of Genesis Apologetics. And a lot of times I'll get phone calls from Dan that go something like this. Good morning. Good morning. Today there's a 16 -year -old girl sitting in biology class. Pat, today she'll hear the evidence that convinces her that evolution is true and that there is no God. Pat, what are you doing today to reach that girl? Is this Dr. Biddle? I love his heart. And so I think in this crazy world that we live in today, I think more than ever we need to stand boldly for our faith. And so today I'll be telling you lots of personal stories. By the way, as I tell you personal stories, it's not because I think I've got it all figured out. In fact, I come before you today knowing that many of you have done so much more evangelism than I have. I'm not a know -it -all. I just want to share with you some thoughts. So I'm going to give you lots of random stories today. And then we'll jump into the word a little bit. But before we do, as I've been here with Figgy a few times, I've gotten to present a talk that we've done on Journey to Nova Rupta. And so Figgy asked if I would just show a trailer to that documentary. This was made by homeschoolers over a span of 10 years. I just wanted to show you that and then tell you where you can watch it for free.

"Really simple system it's been in play for like hundreds of years and really i mean you know there's some slight changes but we're talking you know at least 200 for the way things are now but you know more more time even for for sort of the first bills of lading that we know of um so i guess it's it it sort of works for everybody in the whole world and that really makes things difficult to um to change but you know it's it's the sort of source of um some multi -billion dollar frauds that we've seen in the commodities world in the past few years and that's just what we know of you know um some organizations say that you know the the total amount of fraud in trade is far far bigger but either it never goes detected or if it does go detected you know people sort of work it out in the end um there aren't any losses but you know it's it's expected that financiers lose around point 2 5 billion dollars each year um through uh sort of trade fraud and um that could be remedied by you know making things I guess clearer with uh digital documents so great chart in here in your story from McKinsey that says on average processing a bill of lading the paper -based document required for the transportation of goods takes 16 .4 hours across trade parties for every shipment and you've got I mean a million people touch this bill lading of from various financiers to shippers to brokers and blah blah blah it's all over the place so so at the end of the day is it really kind of like the banks and the financial parties that that bear this cost the better the cost of the just the frauds or the yeah so so look for banks this kind of trade finance is is kind you of great know if you have collateral and if you have the paper document you own effectively the cargo so you know if you're financing against these documents you know that's relatively low risk right you're assuming that what's in the container or the cargo is real and that you own it the problem is is when people either photocopy these documents and issue know or you they they fake them and so you know bank says okay thank you very much sure here's the sort of a few million dollars to finance that expecting that when they pass it on that someone else is going to pay them a few million dollars you know if it's a fake that sort of chain can blow up and and they're left holding the bag really so that that's kind of the genesis of a lot of this from movement it's really started with the United Nations saying look you know the legal standpoint of of digital documents they is that don't basically count in English law which governs I think 90 % of trade law globally and and in other countries as well you know you have to have a paper document say I own this digital just while they were available they didn't count so these new laws that are being were encouraged by UN the now getting brought in in the UK France it's been done in Singapore and Bahrain already this will allow for banks and other parties to say okay well legally speaking we that can now move direction in whether it's gonna happen you know is up to some debate you know people are really encouraged by this process but you know it's been a long time we've been using these documents so yeah it remains to be seen Archie looking in some of the findings from that McKinsey study it blows my mind that enabling electronic bills would open up as much as 40 billion dollars in additional global trade volume through that reduced friction looking at EM emerging markets is that crazy am I crazy to think that that's a huge number and untapped potential just given the interest in making money and opening up EM? well I guess you know the thing about you know I'm by trade Modity's a reporter so that's what I look at but you know this is global trade so we're talking about everything that's getting shipped around the world or couriered around the world at any one time right and any year so we're talking about an absolutely and massive amount look you know McKinsey makes that estimate I I mean can't comment and say you know that's that's too high or too low but you know we're certainly talking about phenomenal amount so you know banks are happier to finance trade from parties that they might have felt was too risky before if they're more comfortable because you know they have these digital documents they know they're not going to be defrauded then you know I guess that's a good thing Archie what the did shipping company say the big ocean shipping companies are they committed to going more digital? they are so look you've got the two main industry groups one for container shipping and one for bulk shipping so that's something you know bulk vessels will ship iron or coal or wheat or something like that and both these groups have made commitments to sort digital taking trade you know bulk slightly less than the container shipping companies which you know they want to really go in for for digital shipping and I guess look if the shipping company says well you know we've made the commitment to do this kind of so sort of market participants say it's going to kind of force the issue and there are other sort of big players there are who are interested parties in it as well I think what we'll probably see is some slightly more vanilla transactions so you know people do talk about it with iron ore where there are really a few big players in iron ore right they go the same routes it's the same often vessels that do those routes and the same banks that finance them so you know when that happens why do you really need to fly a paper document around or courier a paper document around you could easily do that digitally so I think we'll probably start to see that kind of transaction get more digitized then we start to see the more esoteric traits. I have to leave it there because of time. Archie Hunter from Bloomberg News on the big take story great great view great read. Let's get some company news right now by Lisa Mateo. Thanks Paul. A volunteer has emerged as a top pick for a contract to overhaul the UK's National Health Service. Bloomberg's Simone Foxman says it's drawing some controversy. Most of these concerns have focused on data privacy. It was found and according to leaked documents in 2020 that the company was allowed access to sensitive data ...about about patients, employees, members of the public, things like political affiliations, religious affiliation, criminal offenses. There was also criticism about the company's attempts to buy its way in to winning this NHS health deal. Shares right now up about three and a half percent. Bank stocks have been struggling but an Ohio -based lender is getting a boost. Key Corp received an upgrade from Wolf Research from Underperform to peer perform. Bloomberg's Katie Greifel explains why.

A highlight from SBF Trial, Day 1: Possible Witnesses Include FTX Insiders, Big Names in Crypto, and SBFs Family

"Hi everyone, Laura here. Tuesday, October 3rd was the first day of the criminal trial of the United States against Sam Bankman -Fried. Unchained will be bringing you quick recaps of each day of the trial, and you can find our coverage not just on the podcast and on video, but also in our newsletter and on our website. Before the proceedings, Bankman -Fried sat with counsel on either side, noticeably thinner than he had looked previously, and his hair recently shorn, so his curls seemed less unkempt than his signature look. He was also noticeably less jittery than normal. I did not see him shake his leg at all. He had a laptop and sometimes appeared to be scrolling via the trackpad. At one point, Judge Kaplan addressed SPF directly and said, quote, Mr. Bankman -Fried, I want to make sure this is something that you understand. You have the right to testify in your own defense in this case, and the decision as to whether or not you testify is the decision solely for you. You are entitled to have your counsel's best advice on whether they think it is wise or potentially advantageous or not advantageous for you to testify, but they can't make the decision for you. It is your call. While the defense has not yet indicated whether Bankman -Fried will testify, he has gone against most legal advice thus far and given numerous media interviews about what happened at FTX. We'll see whether he continues to be as loquacious under oath. Just after this, the government put on the record whether or not a plea offer had ever existed and said, quote, The government early on in the case, after the case was charged, raised the question of whether the parties should engage in plea discussions, and the answer was no, meaning there were no discussions about a plea and the government never made any plea offers. For those of you who listened to the Tuesday episode with Kayvon Sedeghi and Samson Enzer, this answers one of the questions that I've had ever since Caroline Ellison, Gary Wong, and Nishad Singh all pleaded guilty. Why it was that this case went to trial rather than ending in a plea deal. During this period before the jury selection process, the government mentioned that it wanted to ask whether jurors had seen one specific pre -trial news story, which they called, quote, The CBS Special, and which was later revealed to be the 60 Minutes interview with author Michael Lewis, which aired Sunday and has been seen as somewhat sympathetic to Bankman Fried. Once the proceedings got going, the theme for day one was what recent Unchained guest Samson Enzer mentioned, jury deselection. The judge posed round after round of questions to prospective jurors meant to weed out those who either had conflicts preventing them from serving or who for reasons pertaining to their professional position, personal experience, or other factors could not remain impartial. This process did create moments of hilarity, at least for the reporters in the press room. For instance, one prospective juror said that he was currently unemployed and that his lack of income plus a six -week delay in his job search would be a hardship. Judge Kaplan asked him what he did for a living and he responded, Commodities traitor. Judge Kaplan himself was both firm about the purpose of the trial and the duty of the jurors while also exhibiting both patience and a wry sense of humor. A prospective juror who said she could not participate because she was scheduled to fly to Maui before the trial's projected end ended up admitting that she was going to be in Maui for six months because she lives there half the year. Judge Kaplan asked her if she could just delay a week. Numerous jurors had already heard about or read about FTX. One potential juror works at Insight Partners, a VC firm that had invested in FTX and Alameda. Another said he had processed claims for the victims of Bernie Madoff and numerous others said that they had invested in crypto and all of those said that they had lost money in it, including a man who said his twin brother had nearly been financially ruined from those losses. The government read aloud a long list of potential witnesses for both the defense and the prosecution to prevent any jurors with conflicts or ties relating to those people or organizations. Aside from one of the predictable names, such as Caroline Ellison, Gary Wong, and Hishan Singh, some other FTX executives named included Ryan Miller, Ramnik Arora, Constance Wong, Dan Friedberg, and Sam Tribuco, while other names and organizations known in the crypto world included Anthony Scaramucci, Zach Prince, Genesis, Paradigm, Sequoia, Layer Zero, and Ribbit Capital. SPF's parents and brother were also named. The day ended with 50 remaining possible jurors. On Wednesday, Judge Kaplan will narrow it down to 12 jurors with 6 alternates, and we should see opening statements in both sides, with the government projecting its opening to be 25 -30 minutes and the defense 35 -40 minutes. More to come tomorrow.

"And of course when Abraham first gets that promise, it's a wonderful promise, he's excited because Sarah cannot conceive. And because Sarah cannot conceive, in those days and in that culture, a woman's ability to bear children was her worth, it was her honor, it was her dignity. And for a woman to be barren and not be able to produce children, it meant it was at the very best a tragedy and at the very worst a disgrace. And so when Abraham hears God come and say, I'm going to give your wife a child, he's excited, of course he's excited. And if God had given the child to Abraham and Sarah, back when Sarah was of childbearing years and Abraham, you know, back during the normal sort of age frame, they would have just rejoiced with amazement, but the world wouldn't have because they would have said, well, it's about time. So God comes and gives the promise, but as time goes on, God keeps giving the promise and they get older and older and God keeps giving the promise and the promise keeps not coming true, which is one way to look at it. And finally, in Genesis 17, when Abraham is 100 years old nearly and Sarah is 90 years old nearly, God shows up at Abraham's door and says, Abraham, I will come and I will give you a son. And what does Abraham, the man of faith, do? In Genesis 17, 17, it says, when Abraham heard the promise, he fell face down, why? To worship, to praise, to prostrate himself before, to base himself before the majesty of God? No, it says Abraham, the man of faith, fell face down and laughed. He was doubled over with laughter. He couldn't, he laughed. And then not long after that, God shows up in the form of a human being and two companions, there's three people, it's God and a couple of angels, we guess, shows up at the tent of Abraham. And Sarah stands behind, as the customs of modesty at the time prescribed, she stood behind the tent flap and listened to Abraham speak with these men. And at one point, the Lord says, the one who was the Lord says, Abraham, next year I will return and Sarah will have a son. And in Genesis 18, down in verse 12, it says, so Sarah laughed to herself and said, after I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure? She laughed to herself. And she laughed too. Now, what had happened? Here's what had happened. What had happened was Abraham and Sarah had lost their belief in the supernatural power of God. They'd become, they'd become skeptical of the transcendent power of God. They could accept the idea of a promise in which God came and opened Sarah's womb when she was in her 30s or even her 40s or even her 50s. They could accept that. That would have been a miracle. But the idea that he could send a child in their old, old age, they couldn't accept that. So what they had done is they had become intellectually skeptical about the supernatural power of God. They believed maybe God could work through natural processes but not supernatural processes and they're very, very, and they pull back, you see. Now why? Why they pulled back? Because they were afraid of the vulnerability of hope. They were afraid to hope, see.

October 2nd popular trader crypto bullet reiterated that twenty thousand is still very much on the radar as the Bitcoin price target the latest trip to twenty eight six he argued is now forming the right hand shoulder of a classic head and shoulders chart pattern with the downside logically due to follow if it completes quitting analysts here second half of October should be bearish in my opinion the idea was built on an August roadmap with a short term upside target of twenty eight thousand before reversing towards that twenty thousand target let me know if you agree or disagree with the analysts I disagree I think we are bullish for this October and I think we're more than likely to continue up but it's good to cover all our basis is here now not all reasons headed heeded his warning with fellow popular trader you easy in particular skeptical of the likelihood for this scenario playing out crypto bullet however is far from alone when it comes to fearing that the worst for Bitcoin is over yet and one of crypto quants quick take blog posts on September 28th we had Wetson founder and CEO of crypto trading resource dominando crypto compared bitcoins performance between 2020 and 2022 quitting the analysts here between 2020 and 2022 Bitcoin underwent a notable appreciation region historic highs and capturing global attention however this phase was followed by significant correction that caused the prices to plummet sending crypto back to the lower levels say goodbye to your credit card rewards big -box retailers led by Walmart and Target are pushing for a as we know it if you love your credit card rewards visit hands off my rewards calm and tell them to oppose credit card routing legislation paid for by the electronic payments coalition now we also suggest that should history repeat a sub 20 ,000 level could resurface and an accompanying chart offered a fractal which now has been subject to a repeat quoting him again now in 2023 we are once again witnessing Bitcoin achieving over a hundred percent gains attracting substantial interest from institutional and retail investors nonetheless the market has recently experienced significant volatility and a downward price trend the similarity to the past raises questions about whether we are witnessing a repeat of the 15 ,500 USD if this fractal holds over the next few weeks which could result in a series of FUD and negative news in the crypto space furthermore there's a possibility of a redistribution where the price threatens significant highs but institutional profit -taking forces the price down creating the atmosphere of uncertainty in the market and as reported we also had another analyst rack capital who's demanding that the bulls step up to protect this support in order to avert the long -term retracement now for news as I shared in the intro of the show moving forward all crypto news alerts YouTube videos will have both English and espanol subtitles available and I'm currently working on a dedicated channel dubbed 100 % and espanol so we can serve our Latin community for the Bitcoin daily news let me know if this excites you and if you'll be one tuning in and also as shared here breaking news Stanley drunken Miller known as one of the most successful hedge fund managers on Wall Street who has worked 6 .2 billion he says frankly if the goal bet works then the Bitcoin bet will probably work better how many of you believe that he is probably right let me know your honest thoughts fam in the comments right down below and with that being shared yesterday was a historic day for ethereum futures ETFs launching however they ultimately flopped with less than two million dollars in trading volumes across nine assets so let's break this down and discuss it shall we here we go check it check it check it the rush of excitement that accompanied the launch of nine new ethereum futures ETFs appears to have yielded little in the way of investment dollars in comparison October 2nd nine new ETF products which are designed to track futures contracts tied to the value of the ethereum native currency arrived on the market of these funds only five hold exclusively ether futures while the other four track a mixture of Bitcoin and ether futures contracts quoting Eric Balchunes right here unprecedented day today with multiple ETFs all launching at the same time no clear winner has emerged all of them were pretty average lower than I would have predicted but it's a long run and remember these hold futures ETFs investors much prefer physical to derivatives that's right we much rather prefer spot ETFs because there's nothing but manipulation and price suppression continuously occurring in the futures market all by design hence by the regulators decide not to approve anything spot related but they continue to approve the futures ETFs which blows my mind personally in total all nine ETFs witness less than two million dollars worth of trading volume which is essentially nothing as a midday Eastern Time on the first day of trading the most popular of the futures ETFs products were Valkyrie's Bitcoin strategy ETF which tracks the combo of Bitcoin and ether raking up a total of 880 2 ,000 worth the volume it's worth noting had already been trading as a Bitcoin only futures ETF since October of 2021 but then adjusted its strategy to also include ETH the first day trading volume of ether ETFs paled comparison with that of the pro shares Bitcoin strategy ETF which debuted October of 2021 one month prior to hitting that all -time high and during a roaring market for crypto assets obviously it witnessed more than 1 billion dollars in trading volume on its first day so Wow compare that 1 billion in 24 hours to less than 2 million in 24 hours crazy now Balchune has noted that compared to the regular traditional finance ETF launched the volume witness was actually quite a lot though investors tend to prefer spot ETF products over futures Balchune has explained that all the products were scheduled for launch on the same day as the SEC wanted to prevent any one fund from gaining market domination now what if the SEC decided to do the same thing with the spot ETF approved them all at the same time like whoa meanwhile a range of United States firms jostled for the pole position for the nascent ether futures market ETF firm volatility shares canceled his plans to list a similar product saying that it didn't see the opportunity at the current time well we all know this we're all seeking the spot ETFs those are the game changers and there is probably about a 95 % chance that the BlackRock Bitcoin spot ETF get approved in 2023 I mean 2024 we're in 2023 hopefully right before the having occurs scheduled to be in what is that April of next year roughly six months out as we know it's gonna trigger trillions of dollars cascading into the Bitcoin market and that alongside the Bitcoin having are the two biggest catalyst for 2024 and let's add a third bullish catalyst which is a supply shock as there's currently less than two million Bitcoin sitting on the exchanges and for these ETFs once they get approved for the spot they have to be holding the underlying asset so there's gonna be mass accumulation continuing by the whales not only in this fourth quarter of 2023 but collectively in 2024 as well so let's freaking go and with that being shared now for the Satoshi X saga going on and also I want to share with you Satoshi Nakamoto's secret letter which came from the shadows never shared before I've never read it I'm gonna be reading it in real time with you so let's break this one down shall we members of the crypto community have rallied behind a post on X calling for Elon to remove confusing to people thinking it is an official Bitcoin account and we know there will never be an official Bitcoin account and an official Satoshi account which we all know there will never be an official Satoshi account he says you can't misappropriate someone else's identity without disclosing you are a parody account it is no different than making a fake Tesla or Elon Musk account and I think he makes a great point what are your thoughts chat let me know the true identity of Nakamoto has been subject of discussion and the Bitcoin and crypto community as we know since the inception Satoshi X account is reportedly run by a user named Andy Rowe who was claiming to be posting from a profile back in 2018 and on July of 2018 Rowe said he curates quotes for the Satoshi account as outlined right here the account had been quiet since October 31st of 2018 however October 2nd yesterday the account made a new post saying Bitcoin is a predicate machine and went on to explain that it would explore different aspects of the Bitcoin white paper over the coming months as Satoshi Nakamoto announced here on X now what are your thoughts fam let me know another user call for the accounts "All right, I think I'm going to put on some reading glasses here. Okay, so this is Jesus talking about the different soils, right? So Luke 8, if you can, please turn to Luke 8 and we're going to start at verse 4. And when a great multitude had gathered and they came to him from every city, he spoke by a parable. A sower went out to sow his seed and as he sowed, some felled by the wayside and it was trampled down and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture and some fell among the thorns and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. Verse 8, but others fell on good ground, sprang up and yielded a crop of a hundredfold. When he had said these things, he cried, he who has ears to hear, let him hear. Then the disciples asked him, saying, what does this parable mean? And he said, to you it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it's given in parables that seeing they may not see and hearing they may not understand. Now the parable is this, the seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear, then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock are those who when they hear receive the word with joy. And these have no root who believe for a while in time of temptation fall away. We've all seen that, haven't we? Verse 14, now the ones that fell among the thorns are those when they have heard go out and are choked with cares, riches and pleasures of life and bring no fruit to maturity. But the one that fell on the good ground are those who having heard the word with a noble and good heart keep it and bear fruit with patience. I think I'll just stop right there. There's the four different soils. It's not about us winning them and making them think that we're so great that they want to be great like us or we win them with our lattes at church or any of that stuff, right? It's simply sharing the gospel and realizing that it's the different soils. It's not our job to wrestle them into the kingdom. And when you share the gospel, I find myself a lot of times when somebody prays to make Christ their Lord, it's great joy. But then sometimes the enemy comes along and says, Apat, they didn't really mean it. That's not my responsibility. That's God's responsibility. My job is just to sow the seed. And then we all know this verse right, is that who then is Paul and who is Apollos but ministers by whom ye believed? Even as the Lord gave to every man, I have planted Apollos water, but God gave the increase. So there is neither, so then neither is he that planteth anything, neither is he that watereth, but God that giveth increase. We just spread the gospel and then we let God deal with our heart. If they're interested and they want more, praise God. If not, maybe it's just that you're there to break up the ground, but it's the one, it's the Lord who changes lives. Okay, a creationist has got to talk about creation evangelism, right? You've got to go to Acts chapter 17. Why don't we turn there? This is a scripture that my friend Ken Ham uses all of the time. Okay, so we're going to start chapter 17 verse 16. Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him and he saw that the city was given over to idols. Wow, is that at all like what we're dealing with these days? Wow, that's where we're at. Isn't that amazingly sad? Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers and in the marketplace daily with those who happen to be there. Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him and some said, what does this babbler want to say? Others says, he seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection and they took him and brought him to the Areopagus saying, may we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak for you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean for all the Athenians and the foreign worshipers who were there spent their time and nothing else but to tell or hear something new. Facebook. Oh, then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship I even found an altar with this inscription to the unknown God. Oh my goodness, isn't that funny? They had an inscription to the unknown God. Therefore the one whom you worship without knowing him I proclaim to you. Now check out what Paul does from the very beginning. He starts with the creation message, right? God who made the world and everything in it since he is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is he worshiped with men's hands as though he needed anything since he gives to all life, breath and all things. And he has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on the face of the earth and has determined their pre-appointed times and their boundaries of their dwellings so that they should seek in the Lord in the hope that they might grope for him and find him though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being as also some of your own poets have said for we are also his offspring. Therefore since we are the offspring of God we ought not to think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising. Truly these times of ignorance of God overlooked but now commands all men everywhere to repent because he has appointed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man, right Jesus, whom he has ordained. He has given assurance to us all by raising him from the dead. And we can stop right there. You know what Paul did is he went all the way back and established that it's the God, the creator of all the universe. He's the God that I'm talking about. And then after he established that then he could go on and share about Christ. But a lot of times nowadays we jump right to the Jesus died for your sins and people don't even know why that's important, right? It's like we've got to start at the beginning of the story that God created things perfect. And he created man with no sin or death or pain or suffering. And then it was our rebellion who caused the curse of sin and now that's why we need to be saved. And then we can pick it up at the good news, right? And I think more and more in this world that's what we've got to do. And that's why in my opinion the creation message is important. And I want to talk more about creation. But first Rob and Linda asked me also to share this. I think this is kind of cool. Speaking of creation and evolution, so many people if you do not believe the Bible's version of creation you've got to come up with your own story of creation, right? Which is a big bang in the millions of years and gas becoming stars and then eventually our star and then debris colliding and becoming planet earth and then comets hitting the earth, right, delivering water and then in those oceans that eventually there were some chemicals in there that became alive, all right? And then that life could replicate and then eventually it became a fish-like creature and then that fish-like creature crawled out onto land as a tetrapod and then through mutations which are mistakes that can only lose information or scramble information and through natural selection which only chooses from what's there that eventually an ape-like creature came out and then the ape-like creature turned into a human being. That's their creation story, right? Isn't it sad that so many people, especially young people, are believing that that's the way it happened? And so they believe that an ape-like creature turned into human beings. When I worked with Genesis Apologetics we did a little survey on Amazon and if you were a young person up to the age of 25 a little box would pop up when you were checking out and it went bloop and it would say, what do you believe to be the best proof of evolution? The answer, number one answer, Lucy. So they believe, at least when we took the survey about four or five years ago, that Lucy was the top, top evidence of evolution. So today I thought I would introduce you to Lucy. May I do that? So here we go. We see her in textbooks all the time. We hear about her in movies and all kinds of stuff. Here's Lucy right there. Oops, she's going to pieces. Now, of course, this is a replica, but this is a replica of the actual bones that they found. This is the whole pile of bones that they found for Lucy. Right there, okay? Now, they believe that Lucy was becoming a human and the big reason they believe that is because they believe that she was walking upright on two legs instead of down on all fours. One of the reasons they believe that is because there was a set of footprints found a thousand miles away called the Laetoli Footprints. Now, check those out. They look very human-like. As a matter of fact, that would be probably about a nine and a half in men's shoes, okay? Now, Lucy was only three and a half feet tall, so that would make her like Bigfoot, I guess. I don't know when you think about it. Well, creationists look at that and say, well, those look very human-like, but for an evolutionist, humans hadn't evolved yet, so those can't be human footprints. So what made them? Well, probably Lucy because we know that Lucy was walking upright. Okay, here's a picture of her skull, and that's her skeleton that they found. Here's actually a skull from Lucy, and I want you to check it out. The brown parts are what they've actually discovered. The white parts are their imagination, okay? Now, they probably did a pretty good job reconstructing her. Here's a bonobo chimp right here. You can see that they look very similar. By the way, here's a human compared to Lucy. Now, you can tell those are extremely different, right? Now, remember, they're telling the story that Lucy walked upright. I wanted to show you a couple bones that are here. First of all is this little bone right here, and if you'll notice, that's the second one down below the skull. Now, remember, they've been showing Lucy's fossils and textbooks and all that stuff since 1974 when Dr. Donald Johanson found her, but just recently, they realized that this bone doesn't even belong to Lucy. Okay, I downloaded this picture from a website just a few days ago, and you can see that bone's still in there. My point with that is just remember, we're working with human beings that make mistakes, right? So they made a mistake. Even though they come off as very black and white, they know all of the facts, they do make mistakes, okay? So here's another bone. This is a wrist bone, and basically what this does is because of the concave shape of it, it actually allowed her to lock her hands into place, another sign that she was walking on all fours because you need that for walking on all fours. Our bone doesn't have that, so you notice that our wrists do not lock. Okay, another interesting thing is where Lucy's spine enters into her skull. We've discovered this from other Australopithecines. That's what Lucy is. You'll notice that the angle that that's at shows that she can be on all fours and she's looking straight ahead, but now if you look at how it fits on a modern human skull, it's more of a straight up and down type of thing, okay? So all of the evidence shows Lucy was nothing more than a chimp. Now, this is her hip bone and also her, I've always got to get this the right way, and her tailbone, and basically when they found these, they realized that they were damaged and the way they went together made it look like Lucy was walking on all fours. Well, since they believed that it was damaged, they decided that they were going to reconstruct it with a saw, and so basically they took a saw to it, and when they were all done, it made her hip bone in the place where it looked like she was walking straight up and down. So another reason that they believe that Lucy was walking on two's instead of four's was because of the reconstruction of the hip, and I thought I would just play a little video for you. This is from Dr. David Menton, the late Dr. Menton of Answers in Genesis. Now, he gets a little snarkier than I like to get because I think when we talk about evolutionists, we shouldn't be snarky, right? Because evolutionists are just people that are lost who need the Lord just like we do, okay? So there's a little bit of a snark factor on this video, but it is very interesting. I just wanted to show you the actual video of them cutting Lucy's bone. Have you heard Nova? There was a PBS Nova series in which Dr. Owen Lovejoy, a very distinguished famous paleoanthropologist, was involved, and he's looking at Lucy's skeleton here, and he's lamenting the fact that the hips are all wrong. They're supposed to be human-like hips, so you can walk the way the Latoli footprints showed she walked, but they don't look like human hips. They look like ape hips. What to do about this? Watch it. You'll get a big kick out of this. The ape that stood up, it was a revolutionary idea. We needed Owen Lovejoy's expertise again because the evidence wasn't quite adding up. The knee looked human, but the shape of her hip didn't. Superficially, her hip resembled a chimpanzee's, which meant that Lucy couldn't possibly have walked like a modern human. But Lovejoy noticed something odd about the way the bones had been fossilized. When I put the two parts of the pelvis together that we had, this part of the pelvis has pressed so hard and so completely into this one that it caused it to be broken into a series of individual pieces, which were then fused together in later... So you see, they were broken, and they don't fit together properly. They did speculate in the program as to exactly who was responsible for breaking the hip, and current scientific evidence suggests perhaps a deer stepped on it. Here you can see a deer foot stepping on the bone. Isn't that a bummer? Let's see where it goes from here. This has caused the two bones, in fact, to fit together so well that they're in an anatomically impossible position. The perfect fit was an illusion that made Lucy's hip bones seem to flare out like a chimp's. But all was not lost. This is a power saw, friends. You may want to put your goggles on. Lovejoy decided he could restore the pelvis to its natural shape. He didn't want to tamper with the original, so he made a copy in plaster. Notice he's removing whole parts, not just cutting. He cut the damaged pieces out and put them back together the way they were before Lucy died. It was a tricky job, but after taking the kink out of the pelvis, it all fit together perfectly, like a three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle. Look how perfect! You can read a newspaper through the hole. As a result, the angle of the hip looks nothing like a chimp's, but a lot like ours. Yeah, now, this is what we call science. You can teach this in the public schools, but you can't criticize it, because if you do, that would be religious. So there you go, Lucy. That's the best proof of evolution according to the young people that we surveyed. You know, the reason that this is important is because a lot of times when I'll be witnessing to a young person, I can use creation evangelism. I can say, what do you think is the best proof of evolution? And if they say Lucy, I can share these facts with them, right? And then try and bring it back to the gospel again. So there's Lucy. A couple other things about Lucy. You know, here's a picture of Lucy that you see from a museum. And what do you see about Lucy? What's interesting about her? She seems to be thinking a lot, right? You know what she's thinking about? Bananas. And then, what about her eyes? Check out her eyeballs. Now, look around the room. We've all got white eyeballs, right? Humans have white eyeballs, but monkeys, they've always got, and apes and chimps, they've always got brown eyeballs, not white ones. So, were the paleontologists digging up the bones? And all of a sudden they went, hey, look! Eyeballs! They didn't find the eyeballs, right? So they had to make up what color they were going to make the eyeballs whenever they portray Lucy and look at the color of the eyeballs. Now, why are they doing that? Make her look more human-like, right? Now, what's amazing is you go to some museums and you've got Lucy holding a baby with her husband with a spear standing by her side. They recreated all of that from that. Do you see what I'm saying? So, we've got to make sure that we're being wise as we engage people and try and share the gospel with them, that we can ask good questions. By the way, here's a picture of Lucy as depicted by Answers in Genesis based on the actual fossil evidence. That's probably just what she looked like. Okay, compared to what they say. Okay, I want to share about how the creation message is a door opener. I think so many times I've gone up to somebody to share the gospel with them and I'll start into it and they'll kind of back off and go, hey, look, I'm not really into talking about this. I'll go, okay, that's cool. And then I'll say, hey, do you believe that we evolved? Oh, yeah, I think we did. Well, give me your best reason for that. And then I start talking to them about the whole creation evolution thing and then I start to get to share some maybe evidences for creation and then I get to keep on going and say, by the way, did you know that it was the creator who made you and he made you with purpose? And then guess what? That goes right into the gospel which is where I wanted to start in the first place. Right? A lot of times the creation message can be a door opener. One time I was in this little apartment above somebody's garage and I was living there and I looked down at the street and there the car was parking and here they came. It was the Jehovah's Witnesses. And I saw them coming and I said, okay, here we go. And I don't know about you, but I get discouraged sometimes when the Jehovah's Witnesses come because here's the way it goes. Their verse, my verse, their verse, my verse, their verse, my verse, their verse, my verse. And so as they were walking up the stairs I was going, I am so not up for their verse, my verse today. And I thought to myself, something crazy may just happen today. And so they came up and they came in and so as I'm talking to them, they came in and they sat down and I said, hey, do you guys believe in evolution? Oh no, we don't believe in evolution. And then I became an evolutionist. I gave them all of the best evolutionary evidence I could give to them. Well, you've heard about Lucy, haven't you? You've heard about this. And I started asking questions and they didn't know how to answer any of my evolution questions. And I completely stumped them by pretending to be an evolutionist. And then when I was all done I said, guys, just so you know, I don't believe in any of this evolution stuff. As a matter of fact, let me tell you what I actually do for a ministry. As I teach on creation, can I give you some creation facts? And they went, yeah. And so I got up there and started talking to them all about debunking all of the things I just shared with them. And then I gave them all the positive evidence for how we were created. And then I rolled right into why Christ the creator came and died for their sins. And they just kept quiet. And I just kept going and I got to full on share the gospel with them. And when I was all done, the Jehovah's Witnesses said to me, do you have any books on this? And so I'm pulling books off the shelf that are all Bible books that share about creation. And as they were walking back down my stairs again carrying all these Bible tracts and all that stuff, I said, wow, the creation message was a total door opener. I've gotten to use the creation message so many times that way. Another place that I've used the creation messages is out on a high school campus and also college campuses. Okay, so when it comes to creation versus evolution, which would you say that you believe the most? That's actually a really good question because I'm at a point in my life where I was raised in like a Christian family and church and stuff and raised to be essentially a creationist, a traditional Christian family.

A highlight from The Cause of Conversion

"Thank you gang, good morning everyone. Typically when I'm preparing a sermon I do my very best to make sure that it's balanced and here's what I'm looking for when I say balanced. There are lots of ways you can deliver a passage of the Bible and I'm trying my best to keep some parts of the sermon theological and some parts practical. If you aren't familiar with that first word, as I wasn't until I was like in my late teens, theological meaning I want us to think, I want us to think right thoughts about God. That's theology. And then practical, based on what we know about God, I want us to act. So a sermon, I try my best to balance them, theological thinking about God and practical acting on what we know about God. And yet when you go through the Bible, some parts of it are more one than the other. And that's okay, that's the way the Bible works. Today is going to be one of those messages that are a little bit more heavy on the theological side than the practical side. So on days like that you have to pray and you have to ask God, remember what Jesus said? We're supposed to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our mind. So I'm going to ask that God would grant a very attentive mind. Because I'm going to ask you to worship the Lord your God through the word with a mind that thinks right thoughts about God. So Lord, that's our goal. We want to think. You've given us a mind, a working mind to be able to think. It's unlike the animals who can't think didactically like we can, but we can rationalize. We can think in ways that honor you and we can think in ways that don't honor you. So I'm asking that you would grant first, that you would grant in this room a very attentive mind, that we would all aim our minds toward God to tune out other thoughts and to just spend a little time on a Sunday thinking about nothing else but the greatness of the glory and the beauty and the majesty of our great God. So help us now as we worship through the word to love you by thinking about you. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen. We're in John chapter four. So if you have a Bible, grab it, open it, go to John. That's in the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, fourth book of the New Testament and open to the fourth chapter. We're almost done with it, sort of almost done with it. We're about three quarters of the way through with it. Let me catch you up as you're tuning there. Jesus has been having a conversation with an immoral Samaritan woman, and no one wants to be around this woman, but Jesus did. And so he intentionally met her at the well. And boy, what a meeting they've had. John, the writer of this book, records the true historical account of what happened between Jesus and the Samaritan woman, and we've gone through most of it. Let me tell you what we've seen so far. Right now, Jesus has revealed certain things to this woman that she's gone away from this conversation knowing only one thing. She doesn't know about the cross, she doesn't know about the grave, she doesn't know about anything except she knows one thing. I met a man who told me everything there was to know about me. And she runs off and tells the townspeople, who she's going to in our passage today. She doesn't know about him being a savior yet. She just knows, I met a man who has the ability to tell me things that a mere man doesn't have. So she thinks, I just met a prophet. That's it. That's all she knows. Last Sunday, if you were here, as you're reading through John 4, John takes a pause, and he tells us this other lesson that's related that Jesus wanted to teach his disciples about this. And here's, in a nutshell, what that lesson was. Jesus says, look around you guys, God's field is full and it's ready for the picking with women and people just like this woman. The time has come when God's mission field is full of women like this one I'm talking to, women and men and children whom God wants to save. They're unconverted and God wants to bring them to the truth. And so now John is going to bring us back to what happened with the woman. So there's a story about the woman, I'm going somewhere with this, follow me, story about the woman, an intentional pause, and then it returns to the narrative about the woman. If you were paying close attention last week, if anybody comes up to me afterwards and says they knew this, I'm going to be shocked. If you were paying close attention last week, I skipped three verses. Usually I go one verse, then the next verse, then the next verse. We don't skip anything. And that's a big no -no. We don't skip verses. And so I skipped three verses because as I was studying, I realized these really belong with the text I'm going to show you today. So I purposely skipped them to save them for today. So here's what we're going to do. We're going to look at those three verses I skipped, which is found in verse 28, 29, and 30. Then we're going to skip the passage I preached on last Sunday, which is verse 31 through 38. And we're going to take the part I skipped and join it to the part where you'll see why. Can I show you why? This reads, this portion, you're going to go, wow, that reads so smoothly. It's almost like there was no interruption. Watch how smooth the narrative goes now, okay? So starting in verse 28, where I skipped, 29 and 30, then jumping down to 39, the narrative reads smooth. Check this out. So the woman, she's just finished talking with Jesus, and now this is what happens after. So the woman left her water jar and went away into the town and said to the people, come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ? They went out of the town and were coming to him. Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, he told me all that I ever did. So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, it's no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the savior of the world. Now, there is a primary lesson that most preachers, when they preach this passage or if you've ever been in a Bible study or a Sunday school class, there's one primary lesson that's being taught here. In the job of an interpreter, you when you're home and you open your Bible in the morning with your cup of coffee or your spot of tea or whatever you drink and you're reading the Bible, you're all interpreters at that moment, there's only one lesson. And the job is to get at that one lesson. What did the author mean? If we get somewhere else, we've missed the interpretation. So our job is to find out what John meant by what he wrote and then get at that meaning. The meaning of this is not real difficult. It's very simple. Here's what happened. A woman had an encounter with Jesus and she went home and told everybody about it. That's it. That's the story. That's what happened. So if this passage is preached a hundred times this year in a hundred different churches all over the world, 99 out of a hundred times, here's what the sermon's going to be about. She's a witness. She's really the first witness in the Gospel of John. And so the message is going to be about witnessing. And they'll tell you, go home and do likewise. And they'll take you through it piece by piece, showing you how she witnessed, because she did a good job, and they'll say, this is how you witnessed. And I'm telling you, that is the faithful way to handle this text. A hundred percent of the time, that's the way to do it. I'm not going to do that today. Here's why. Knowing the majority of the people at our church and knowing that the majority of you have been in church your whole life, you've probably heard this preached 20 times. And I'm knowing that I could give you the main lesson in about 30 seconds, which I just did. I want to show you how the Bible can be like an onion, like an onion, and how you could read this. My grandmother's 105. You're probably getting tired of me telling you that. She woke up this morning and read her Bible for close to an hour. I'm telling you. You know how I know? She's done it her whole life. She's probably read this passage 105 times, I'm exaggerating. Every time, there's some new layer of the onion that gives her food for her soul. I want to peel back a layer. Again, there's only one meaning, but there's lots of ways, vantage points, to look at that one meaning and glean new food from this never -ending nourishment that is God's word. In narratives like the one we're reading, especially the gospel narratives where you're reading about a true historical account, this really happened in history, and where there's lots of different people in the story, you can look at it from her perspective or the perspective of Jesus or the perspective of the Samaritans. If there were other people, we could read it from different perspectives, and every time you do, you peel back a new layer of the onion. Isn't the Bible awesome? It'll keep you nourished for the rest of your life. Well, this week, I looked at the woman and I said, Lord, I'll preach this. If that's what you want, I'll just go and I'll preach a message on witnessing. I just couldn't do it. I wanted to peel back a little bit and look at this from the lens of the Samaritans. I wanted to see how it was that God converted them through first this woman and then through an encounter with Jesus. And so this morning, what we're going to do is we're going to do a case study in conversion. The Samaritans were my focus this week, which is why I've entitled this sermon, the 20th sermon, by the way, in our series through John, The Cause of Conversion. Would you give me two minutes before we start picking apart this text? Would you give me two minutes to define conversion? Because I imagine that there might be a lot of different definitions that people would come up with as to what that word means. What is that? Most people may have grown up believing, as I did, that conversion was the same exact thing as being born again. It isn't. Oh, it's related. As a matter of fact, you might think of conversion as the other side of the coin of being born again. Let me explain. Get your thinking cap on. Here we go. Being born again, theologians have a term for it just like they do conversion, and the term is regeneration. How many of you have heard the term regeneration before? How many of you have read the book of Genesis? Genesis is the beginning. When you were born, you had a Genesis. When you were born again, you had a re -Genesis. God made your birth happen again on the inside. Conversion is not the same thing, and here's how. What happens on the inside when you're born again, when God takes your dead soul, which is the way you were born, you're dead in your sins, so was I, when God makes you alive to Christ, that happens at the soul or the heart level, and at that very same instant, you mind falls, but at that very same instant, after God makes you alive, something happens in the mind. What happens in the mind is conversion, and it's really important. Here's why it's important. Look what Jesus said. This is going to get juicy. Jesus said, truly I say to you, unless you are, say the word, and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. So you tell me, is conversion important? You better believe it. Here's the word Jesus used. He used the Greek word, strepho, which simply means, look on the screen, to be changed, or a better definition, to turn and go another direction. Someone is born again. At that moment, their eyes are open to see the truth. Once that happens at the soul level, something happens instantaneously in the mind. In the mind, you are able to believe the truth about Jesus. You see him as he truly is. You no longer see your old life the way that it was. You turn away from it, and you turn to something new. That is the moment when conversion begins. It continues throughout your life. God continues to make you into something new. We call that process sanctification. It starts the moment you're converted, and it continues throughout your life. He's continually renewing your mind, changing how you see first God, then you, then the world, then every little thing continues this process of being converted into the image of Jesus Christ. So conversion is the flip side of the coin of regeneration, but it's not exactly the same thing. caused Conversion is by having the eyes of your heart opened, listen to these words, to a knowledge of God that you were prior blind to, and it's this spiritual knowing and believing that I see in this text. Martyn Lloyd -Jones said something about conversion that I think sums it up better than anybody else. Look what Martyn Lloyd -Jones said. He said conversion is the first exercise of the new nature. So once you're born again, the first thing you do, the first act is conversion in ceasing from old forms of life, my old sinful life, and starting a new life. It's the first action of the regenerate soul in moving from something, something I used to be, to this new life. That's the best definition of conversion that I could find, a way that I think will be helpful to you in your life in understanding salvation. In this text, I see a great case study of how conversion works. These people went from believing something to suddenly having their eyes opened to see something new. If you did what I did, some people, it's funny, they think that preachers somehow have some supernatural funnel from God where he pours information in your head. That is not at all what happens to a preacher. It's just discipline. That's all it is. Discipline to study the Scriptures and sit in it and sit in it, and then when you're done, sit in it some more. And God does for a preacher what he would do for you if you spent as much time in a text as I do. I spend on average about 20 hours a week preparing for a sermon, roughly 20 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. If you spent as much time as I did in this little text, I promise you, you'd start to see little observations popping out, little things you're like, oh, I never saw that before. And if you spent as much time with me this week looking at this text and looking at it, looking at it, looking at it, can I show you a few things that might start popping out to you? There are three because statements in this text. If you're reading in the morning in 20 minutes and you're reading the story about the woman at the well, you're not going to stop on the word because, would you? Because it's just the because. No one stops at the word because. But if you did stop, you would see the cause of things. Can I show you these three because statements in the text? Take a look. I put them on the screen for you. Well here's the whole text. You'd see these three because statements. Here are the three because statements popping out. Put those up for me, Logan. You have the first one? Poor Logan. The first because statement, we'll get to the second one in a second, many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony. So they believed in him because of the woman's testimony. Look at the second because statement. Now Logan. And many more believed in him because of his word. But now here's the cause that changed my whole trajectory of this sermon, verse 42. They said to the woman, look at this, look church, it is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves. And we know, it's the first time this word is used in the chapter, we know that this is indeed the savior of the world. Church, look at me. Something caused the water bottle. What was it? Me. I pushed it. All I want to do is look at this text as a case study of what caused you to be born again, to be converted. I want to look at this as a case study to see what caused them to be converted so that you will know first how to pray for your unbelieving family, but second even more importantly, to know whether or not you're converted. There are lots of people who've been going to church for years who may not be converted. There is a major difference between being convinced and being converted. There is a major difference between being convinced about Jesus and being converted by Jesus. Not all belief is the same kind of belief. I'm telling you, I want to show you this morning, based on verse 42, there's a journey, a progression of conversion that I want to show you in this text. They were convinced and called by this woman's testimony, but they were not yet converted because they did not yet know him. There is a kind of belief in Jesus that does not cause conversion. It's the kind that maybe the brother of Jesus was talking about when he wrote this. Look on the screen. You say that you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Well, good for you. Even the demons say the word. Wait a second. And they tremble in terror. So according to James, there's a category of belief that does not cause a creature, a human creature or a demonic creature, to be converted. So just because you see belief in the Bible doesn't mean it's the same kind of belief that leads to conversion. My prayer all week this week is that God would bring us somebody who needed to be converted today. What I aim to show you in this case study is the call to salvation used by God. This woman was used by God to invite them. Being convinced about Jesus. And then finally being converted to Jesus. Here's the big idea. I'm going to spell it out for you. If you want to snap a photo of this with your phone so that you can't forget it, it's fine with me. Some people are convinced because of a personal testimony. And God uses personal testimonies to convince people. Others are convinced because of a personal experience. Lots of people have had spiritual experiences and God uses those to convince people. But there's only one cause of conversion. The cause of conversion is knowing Christ as personal Savior. Let me show you this in the text. I'm going to split the big idea into three parts. Everybody still with me? Part number one. Some people, they're called during someone's testimony. They feel God calling to them. And they're convinced when they hear someone give a personal testimony. But it's not the same thing as being converted. Here's what I'm going to show you in this text. God has been pleased down through church history to use people's personal testimonies. To draw people to himself. Theologians call this an effectual call. He calls out to people, come to Jesus. Come to Jesus. By the testimony of someone that you love or a friend. And people feel and hear God's call. But it's not the same thing as being converted. Let me show you that right here in the text. Verse 28, 29 and 30 and then verse 39. Look what it says here. So the woman left her water jar. There's lots we could say about that. She left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people. So now she's suddenly an evangelist. Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ? God in this moment is using a vessel, a woman's mouth who just had an encounter with Jesus to call people to come. Come meet Jesus. That's what's happening here. They went out of the town and were coming to him. Many Samaritans from that town believed. And now based on what you just read about James, you should go, wait a minute, what kind of belief? So glad you asked. We're going to get into that, okay? Many from Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony he told me all that I ever did. So remember something. Follow me, church. All she knows at this point is that she met a prophet.

Today there's a 16-year-old girl sitting in biology class. I'm not a know-it-all.

A highlight from Who Is Deezy?

"What's up everybody, and welcome to another Saturday edition of the Alpha series here on Discover Crypto. I'm excited to sit down with Deezy, Mr. Nick Valdez, and talk about who he is, where he comes from, what he's all about, because I have no idea, and I'm sure a lot of you are wondering, why the hell is he hosting Discover Crypto? What's he all about? Does he even know anything about crypto? Well, let's dig into it. Deezy, how are you feeling? Thank you for being here. And what's your story, man? How are you in this position? Well, how are you talking on my shoulder? Who the hell are you talking to over there? What is going on? Is there hidden cameras in the wall? I don't know what's up. Talking to all of you out there. My name is Deezy, also known Nick Valdez. I'm a former professional Magic the Gathering streamer, whatever that means, not much in my opinion. And I've been in crypto. I've been making crypto content since 2020 briefly, and then I started working for the channel here back early 2021. And so I've been working in crypto full -time a little over two years at this point. I've been in content creation full -time a little over four years at this point. So you got into content creation for crypto in 2020, you said? Well, I started out with Magic the Gathering, but then I made my first piece of crypto content, which is Gods Unchained back in 2020. So does that mean you just got into crypto the day before that, or did you have a little bit of a pathway that got you there? I had a little bit of a pathway. I first discovered crypto from 4chan, actually, from the B board. So this was Bitcoin maybe a year or two old at this point. So fairly soon, I remember seeing some pretty low prices for Bitcoin. I remember my buddy trying to convince me. We worked together at ADT, the home security thing. So you ride around in a van, you leave headquarters, you might have to go to town an hour away. This is early days of smartphone. The web traffic was pretty low back then. The web pages were pretty low. There wasn't really social media networks like there is today. So I remember the text board on B, that's where I started discovering Bitcoin. And my buddy was like, man, we got to start buying some of this. But 4chan was nothing but scammers. And I thought, for sure, if I try to make Bitcoin, I'm going to get scammed. They're going to hack me. They're going to see my driver's license number somehow, my social security number. And it freaked me out being that it was related to that, and so I stayed away. Fast forward about two years, a buddy from high school was telling me about Silk Road and how he bought some ecstasy on it, full disclosure. And he was like, yeah, man, you got to get Bitcoin. I love this website. You can buy anything. And I was like, man, you're crazy. I don't know. This seems nuts. And then shortly thereafter, he lost, or maybe even during that time, he's like, yeah, I had to buy more Bitcoin because I lost Bitcoin on that computer. I remember him just pointing at his computer, and I was like, what do you mean you lost Bitcoin? I kind of had an idea of what it was. He's like, yeah, like I lost the password to my wallet or something. I just remember thinking like, wow, so you can have money in it, and you just lose it super easy, and it's associated with hackers? And so it kept me away from Bitcoin, even though I knew about it early, knew the proposition value of it early, it freaked me out. So that's a great spot to pivot there. That whole time, I'm investing in traditional stocks. And so I'm like, well, my Amazon's doing pretty good, guy. Right. No, but you bring up a great point because it's not just you as an individual. We see right now with all these Bitcoin spot ETFs, we see institutions on the horizon. And that's only because there's some proof of concept that's actually endured over a good period of time now, over a decade, in fact, for Bitcoin. But the question here, it kind of lies in, or the hesitation, I should say, lies in the lack of awareness broadly in both retail and institution. Because let's be honest, the people that are running institutions are people, too. And they are a part of retail. So the awareness factor of Bitcoin over the last 10 years has grown so exponentially. The question is, really, how do we get people from A to B, the genesis of first having the seed planted of hearing about Bitcoin, maybe seeing it on The Simpsons or in all the different media we watch, and then taking the leap to investigate it a little bit, and then taking that third step to actually get involved. So to get there, we need awareness. So I'm curious with you, where you came from, how old were you? What was your process like? At what point in life did you understand that there was a different value to money or currency than you were brought up, that change? When did that change happen? I learned that I was poor in second grade. I remember learning that. I grew up real poor. I grew up with a single mother. I could get into how, I don't want to say bad, it truly was, but things weren't easy. There's a period my mother was locked up. My father was put in jail, put under the concrete months after I was born. I never saw him. I saw him two, three times when I was 13. I haven't seen him since, and I never saw him before that. I haven't talked to him since, really. And so I grew up just very, very poor. But when you're five, you don't know you're poor. When you're six, you don't know you're poor. It takes a certain level. And I remember my mother dating Robbie Cumberland. He was a big jerk, man, really, really big jerk, abusive, not a fun time. But his daughter, I remember saying, oh, well, there's other people, they're more poor than us. And I learned the term middle -class. I didn't know what middle -class was. That's when I started seeing, as a seven -year -old, oh, there's hierarchies. There's social strata. There's social strata, and I'm down here. And then I don't know when it was, but at a certain point, you realize, I don't want to be down here. I want to be up here. So I remember pretty early, single digits age, you know, you're blowing the birthday cake. You're not supposed to say your wish is not going to come true. I remember just wishing, I want to be a millionaire. I want to be a millionaire. I was tired of being poor. And so I pretty quickly learned the value of money scrounging for lunch money in middle school. You know, like, maybe I would have an issue trying to get lunch money from my mother. I'm scrounging the quarters and the dimes and the couch cushions. While in high school, you know, I was pushed to work pretty early to help, to help. You know, a lot of people, they don't have that experience. You know, it's the opposite. Their parents encourage them to work at the same time, giving them money, paying for their car, paying for their cell phone, and then having them, oh, yeah, you need to learn the value of a dollar and make extra money on top of that. I was working and paying for my own school clothes. I was working, paying for my own school lunch. And so I learned the value of hard work and I learned the value of a dollar while being a high school student. And so that definitely gave me an advantage. Being poor, you know, statistically speaking, probably not an advantage. Your education is probably not going to be as good. Your influences are probably not going to be as good. Your home life is probably not going to be as good. But you do get an advantage with some aspects of mentality. And, you know, I just try to focus, you know, let's hone the positives from that and let's sharpen it and let's use it as a weapon to create financial independence. Yeah, I mean, what an interesting story there. And that's one of those things that all of us need to remember when we're talking to anybody, whether you're sitting in line at the bank or maybe not the bank because maybe you're walking down the street talking to a homeless person or a friend that you've never went deep with. Everybody has a story. Everybody comes from somewhere and there's depth there that we can truly connect on if we understand, even if somebody is being difficult to deal with or there's compassion and love there that we can engage with, right? And we can understand people better if we know that we all have a story. So you mentioned all this about your understanding of the lack of value proposition of the dollar and what it means to have money and the true value of money, I should say. But where did that value proposition that you mentioned of Bitcoin, when did that flip the switch in you that rather than you were just aware of it, that you actively said you pulled the trigger to do the first action transaction or purchase or something engaging with it? So it was almost going to be 2017. You know, that's when Bitcoin really started to go on its first major mainstream tear where, you know, started really getting people's attention. And I remember pretty early in the year. So, you know, well before December, well before October. So I don't know what level we're at, well below 10K. I remember it hitting headlines. And then that's when I decided to, you know what, it's time to do some education here. I, you know, probably like a lot of people in crypto, once you become fascinated about something, you want a deep dive on it. You want to go full blown, artisanal on it. And so that's a little bit of an aspect of what I did for Bitcoin there. And I remember looking into it and it was Reddit. It was Reddit of all places that I learned about the four -year cycle. So I saw about the four -year cycle pretty early because at that point, we did have a little bit of a spike in 2011 and then a spike in 2013. And then we're starting to spike in 2017. And then once we hit a new all -time high, then that four -year cycle really starts to look pretty clear. And you're like, oh, wow, we're setting up for a repeat of history here. And a lot of smart people were saying, oh, the having Bitcoin will go down. And I remember they're saying, guys, you idiots, 2K is the top. Guys, I know we hit 3K, but surely 4K is the top. And so pretty early in 2017, I just remember thinking, oh, this thing is going to reverse anytime now. It's going to reverse anytime now. It's going to reverse, it's going to reverse, reverse, reverse, because, you know, you see you're like, oh, I could buy this at 3K, should I? No, man, it's going to reverse. And then you go forward a few weeks and it's 5K and you feel like an idiot. You're like, well, I'm definitely not going to buy it now. So during this period, I'm watching it climb and I start doing some research. And pretty early, I got the mentality where I have to wait for it to retrace. It will have what they call a crypto winter. I start learning more about the four -year cycle, and that's exactly what I did. I didn't buy any Bitcoin or any crypto in 2017, I waited till 2018, and then I started buying. I looked, I think the first Bitcoin I bought was from the retracement down to 10, and I think I bought as soon as it got near 10. I remember thinking, oh, it's near 10. Now is when I start buying, and then it went to five, then it went to three, you know, so it kept going lower and lower and lower. But at the time, I didn't really care. I was like, OK, I finally have exposure. Of course, the first coin I bought when I downloaded Coinbase, oh, I'm going to buy that 10K Bitcoin. Whoa, XRP is how much? I could buy so much for $100 versus Bitcoin and I bought XRP. So that was the journey. That was the journey right there. I mean, I can honestly say that that journey is probably echoed by so many different people. You know, a lot of people and I say this, you know, on BitLab Academy, we're talking about these cycles. Everybody, everybody that's ever traded or invested ever has bought a top of an asset and gotten scared and sold at some point. Also, we've all bought a top and sold a bottom. And at the end of the day, it's all about how do you dive in, be ambitiously curious, dive into, OK, how can I fix my broken strategy? Because clearly that's not how people that made money made money. They figured out, OK, there's other data points I can look at rather than just looking at price. And then similarly, the XRP story, whether it's XRP, Shiba Inu, Dogecoin, Cardano, it doesn't matter. So many people come in and it's going to happen even more this next cycle. We're going to have the most onboarding of new adopters coming into the markets than we've ever had in this next cycle because institutions are coming in, because that aware the price breaking past 70, whatever that happens, that's when the hype cycle, the free press for crypto goes out and people are going to say, I can't afford a $70 ,000 Bitcoin. I'm going to go buy a dollar Cardano. And I'm not saying at all Cardano is a bad project, but people need to be curious about the assets they're investing. And so what would you say, knowing the journey you've had and the different sticking points or hurdles or failures, we've all had failures in this space, what we've learned from it. What would you say to somebody that's just coming in there on the fence about coming in or somebody that's watching as a family member that's asking about it? What's the advice for somebody that's stepping in this space? Very basic. Well, first, let me say coin price does matter per coin, separate from market cap. And this sounds dumb. No, the only thing that counts is market cap. No, there is a thing called like retail adoption rate. And if you download an app and all things being equal, same social, same token, same everything, except one has a million supply, one has a billion supply. People are more likely to buy the coin for a dollar than buy one or a hundred of that coin at a dollar rather than buy 10 % of the thousand dollar coin. Even all things being equal, it's just visually, I don't know if it's a visual thing, I don't know if it's just an ego thing like, yeah, I have a thousand of that thing versus I have 10 % of that thing. It just sounds better. So one, coin price does actually matter when it comes to whether or not retail is going to buy it. Might not matter so much for institutional investors, but yeah, that definitely does matter. As far as advice, new people coming in, I don't really like to give people advice of coins outside of top 20, maybe top 30. I'm not not not advice for coins, but more like you're stepping in. Oh, you're stepping in. The first thing you can do is go ahead and sub to Discover Crypto. The second thing you can do is maybe ask yourself, well, why, why am I just trying to get rich? All right, we'll have that be your investment thesis. Do I hate the government printing money? Oh, well, buckle up. You're stuck. You're going to be with us for the rest of your life. I'm sorry. You're a weirdo now. You know, there's going to be different angles. Are you just super into tech? All right, we'll start learning about smart contracts and solidity. So maybe, you know, find out why you would be interested and then that will describe the how or the what.

A highlight from The Professors Disillusionment

"Welcome to Gospel in Life. This month we're looking at directional signposts through history that point us to Christ. All through the Old Testament from Genesis to Jonah, you see signs that point us to Jesus. Listen now to today's teaching from Tim Keller on Pointers to Christ. Verses 15 to 26. Then I thought in my heart, The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being wise? I said in my heart, This too is meaningless. For the wise man, like the fool, will not long be remembered. In days to come both will be forgotten. Like the fool, the wise must die. So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. I hated all the things that I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the work into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless. So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun. For a man may do his work with wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and then he must leave all he owns to someone who has not worked for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune. What does a man get for all the toil and anxious striving with which he labors under the sun? All his days, his work is pain and grief. Even at night his mind does not rest. This too is meaningless. A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God. For without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness. But to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after, the win. This is God's word. one Now, of the things that an awful lot of people have said is that Ecclesiastes is a great book. In chapter 97 of Moby Dick, I know it so well, Melville says the truest of all books is Ecclesiastes. Thomas Wolfe in a pretty well -known American novel, You Can't Go Home Again, he says, one of his characters says this, Ecclesiastes is the greatest single piece of writing I have ever known, the noblest, the wisest, the most powerful expression of humanity's life on earth, the highest flower of eloquence and truth. There's an awful lot of people who talk like that, say this is the best book in the Bible, this is the truest, this is the greatest. But I can almost guarantee you that none of them felt that way the first time, not the first time they read it. Because what you have when you first read Ecclesiastes, what you're struck with, is a teacher, a professor, as we'll see, in absolute despair. The very first verses, the first few lines of Ecclesiastes go like this, meaningless, meaningless, utterly meaningless, everything is meaningless. And of course, the passage I just read is just the same. And so you have someone in utter despair with the bleakest view of life, and the reason people generally get very confused when they read it, people who are believers, people who believe in God, people who have the traditional faith, they say, I'm confused because it seems like he's contradicting everything the rest of the Bible says. And people who don't believe or have trouble believing or who are not as believing, when they read it, I'll tell you what they say. What they say is, who needs this? They say, this guy is a professor, this is the kind of guy who drinks himself into a raise on the left bank talking about the meaninglessness of life, this is the kind of guy who makes these art films that, you know, are so bleak and terrible that play in obscure little corners of Greenwich Village. Of course, the world has people like that, but most of us aren't like that, we don't see life like that. Who needs this rant? Who needs this pessimism? Now, the reason why it's so confusing is because a couple of things are missed. The first thing is because people don't realize the instructional approach. We don't exactly know who wrote Ecclesiastes, I won't get into the debate, it's debatable that Solomon writes, it doesn't matter because in the very first line, he calls himself a teacher, a word that can mean a professor. And if you read Ecclesiastes, you'll realize that this man, and it's the only book like this in the Bible, this man is running a seminar. He's not lecturing, he's not preaching, like a good philosophy professor, he's running a seminar. He is making you think. He is goading you with questions. Ecclesiastes, unlike any other book of the Bible, is not pedagogy, it's andragogy. Pedagogy literally means child instruction, memorizing, wrote, you see, drill, spoon feeding. Andragogy is a word that means adult instruction. Goading, asking questions, getting people to look at their own foundations, discovering truth for themselves. That's one of the reasons why Ecclesiastes seems so odd. But the other reason it seems so odd is because people, I don't think notice, unless you look clearly and I'm going to try to show you this morning, that the teacher is looking at life all the time. He's always saying, I see, I see, I saw this, I looked at life and I saw this, but he looks at life in two different ways and he goes back and forth between them. Let me show you the first way he looks at life and the second way he looks at life. It'll teach us a great deal. The first way he looks at life, in the first view, let's say how he looks and what he sees and why he sees it. Now, the first way he looks at life is he looks at life under the sun. You notice how three times in this passage, verse 17, 20 and 22, he says, I found this meaningless under the sun. I saw all my work under the sun was meaningless. This is a term that's used 30 times in the book. This is a term that is not used anywhere else in the Old Testament, so it's clearly critical to and very important to the whole book. And what he means by this, almost all the commentators I've ever read agree, what he means by under the sun is life here and now considered in isolation from anything else. Life under the sun is, he says, I'm going to look at the world as if this life under the sun is all that there is. I'm not going to look at life above the sun. I'm not going to think about God or eternity or heaven or hell, see. I'm not going to think of anything beyond. I'm going to look at life as if this is the only life we have, at least the only life we know. You know Carl Sagan in the beginning of every one of his Cosmos PBS segments, in the very beginning you'd hear Carl Sagan's voice come on and he would say, the cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be. Now most people are not atheists in the strict sense like Carl Sagan. What Carl Sagan is saying is, this life, this world, there is no heaven, there is no hell, there is no eternity, okay? There is nothing but this life, life under the sun, there's nothing else. Most people aren't atheists. Most people would say, well, I believe in God, but the modern person says, I believe in God or something, but we can't know. We can't know God's will for sure. We can't know about the after. We can't be sure. And so essentially the modern person says, we have got to live life as if this is the only life we know. And the teacher says, deal. I'm going to look at life as if it's the only life we know. That's how he's looking at it. That's the first way he looks at it. I'm going to look at life under the sun. But what does he see? What he sees is absolute inconsequentiality. Now, he kind of looks at it in several ways. He notices the injustice. If you look down, he says, it's unjust. Some people work very, very hard and never enjoy the fruit of their labor, and other people who don't deserve it at all enjoy it. And then he says, and worse than that, it's possible that you could work very hard to accomplish something in life, and then when you die, not only don't you get it anymore, but some fool comes along and takes over, and next thing you know, everything you've worked for is gone. You build an institution. You establish a school of thought. You do some good deeds, and somebody else comes along afterwards and just ruins it. But you see, that all is just, those are all just symptoms. Because up in verse 15 and 16, he really gives you the bottom line. In verse 15 and 16, as I read, he says, the fate of the fool will overtake me also. He says, therefore, this is meaningless, for the wise like the fool will not long be remembered. Now what he's bringing out here is something, again, incredibly modern, but something he's trying to grab you by the scruff of the neck and show you. And we're going to talk about why, but for now, let's say the what. We'll talk about why he's doing this, but right now, let's say what he's looking at. And what he is saying is, a wise life, a wise action, or a foolish life, a foolish action, a compassionate life, a compassionate action, a cruel life, a vicious action. In the end, makes no difference at all. None at all. If it's really true that life under the sun is all there is, if it's really true that when we die, that's it, and eventually the solar system dies, in other words, eventually something will sweep everything away, civilization will all be swept away, it won't make a bit of difference how you've lived at all. And therefore, there is no way, if you realize that life under the sun is all there is, that you can say one action is more significant than another, because it makes no difference in the end at all. Now, that's very bleak, you say. And the question comes up, why, you know, we're all smart people, we walk around, why is it that the average person, and the average person in Western culture who shares the teacher's premise that this life is all we know, but they go on out there and they don't feel that life is meaningless, they don't say one thing is as insignificant as another, that everything is ridiculous, everything is meaningless and vain and futile, no. So why does he, and here's the reason why. He looks at the whole of life, the big picture, and we refuse to. The key is, take a look at this question that he brings out, I have been meditating on this question for some years, and I just saw something this week that I'd never seen before. Here's the question he asks, and he dares you to ask the question. He says, down here in verse 22, what does a man get for all the toil and anxious striving with which he labors under the sun? That's the question. Every word is significant. First of all, he says, assuming that this life is all there is, first of all, he says, what is the gain? What do you get? What is the difference? Now, why do you ask that question? Because he's really showing us that you ask that question about any individual piece of your life, do you not? If somebody says to you, I would like you to go to the corner of so -and -so place, and I would like you to stand there for an hour tomorrow, you would say, for what? Well, the person says, I don't want to tell you, I'd just like you to do it. And you say, no, no, no, no. I want to know what difference it'll make, what gain there will be, otherwise it's a waste of time. You would never do anything. If it made absolutely no difference at all, if nothing came of it at all, you'd never do anything. But the thing that, in other words, we look at every part of our life like that. But the reason that the teacher comes to despair, existential despair, is because he uses a little word in that question that is so critical, and that is the word all. What do you get from the whole of your life? And the reason the average person shares the teacher's premise but does not share the teacher's despair in this world, in this Western culture, is because we refuse to use the word all. See, the average person, I mean, there's probably a lot of people right here listening to this, and you're going to sit through the 30 minutes or whatever, but you would never sit through 30 minutes personally with somebody. If somebody sat down and said, well, what do you believe about life? And you said, well, I'm kind of an agnostic, I'm kind of a, I sort of believe in God in general, it might be true, but the one thing is all we know is that we're here, we don't really know for sure why we're here or where we're going or, you know, we can't be sure. Now, the person says, well, in that case, you must, you have to look at life and say that nothing means anything, that there's no right and wrong ultimately, there's no significance between one action over another, that no one action is more meaningful or more significant than the other. And you wouldn't stand for that. You would say, oh, give me this, I took philosophy 101, this meaning in life, so philosophers need this, philosophers ask the big questions. The average person, the average person lives for the daily things. Sure, I don't know, I'm an agnostic, but I'm optimistic about life, why? Because when I take a boat ride in Central Park, I feel good, it's meaningful. When I hug somebody I love, it's meaningful. When accomplish I something at work, it's meaningful. When I do a compassionate deed as opposed to a selfish deed, it's meaningful to me. I'm having a fine life. You can't throw all this on me, you can't put me back into philosophy class. Now, you know what you're doing? You're refusing to ask the word all. There was an old Mutt and Jeff cartoon some years ago. Remember Mutt and Jeff? And at one place, Mutt, Jeff comes up and there's Mutt, and right in the middle of a street, right in the middle of a, you know, a road, a street, he has built a very, very tall pile of stones, and at the top of the pile of stones, there's a lantern, and Jeff says to Mutt, oh, Mutt, why did you build this pile of stones? Oh, he says, that's easy, so I could put the lantern up there. So that it's up high so that it gives a lot of light. Oh, okay. Why did you put the lantern up there? Well, I want the lantern up there so the cars will see the pile of stones and they won't crash into it. Why did you put the pile of stones there for the car to crash into? Well, so that I could put the lantern up there. Now, what is he doing? It's very simple. He's finding meaning of one part in the meaning of another part, but he's refusing to ask the question, does the whole thing have any use, or is it just stupid? Why do you work? Usually, a person says, I'll tell you why I work, so that I can do things that I like to do. I have avocations, I've got hobbies, I've got leisure, I like travel. Why? Well, that really recharges my batteries. Why? So I can work. See, the lantern is for the stones, the stones are for the lantern, and if you refuse to stand back and say, but what is the whole thing for? What is the whole thing for? How do you know your whole life isn't stupid? That your whole life isn't pointless? How do you know your whole life is not just a very, very large stone lantern in the middle of a highway? How do you know this? Now, here's what the teacher is saying. The teacher is saying, grow up. This is not pedagogy, this is andragogy. Don't be an ostrich. Ask yourself the question. If you would never do one thing, if it made no difference at all, okay, it would be meaningless, it would be a waste of time, unless it made a difference. What difference does your whole life make? What are you living for? What difference does it all make? Now, the average person just does not want to hear this. I had a little conversation with somebody, by the way, I know very well, I'll get back to why I think this was a valid conversation, but it's a dangerous one. I had a conversation not too long with somebody I knew very, very well, and this person had just said, what he said was, he says, you know what, the way you know what's right and wrong is, there's no reasons for it, there's no way to know what's right and wrong, you just have to know what's right and wrong in your heart, and if you know in your heart, then it's right, and then you just need to do it, and that's how you live, that's how you find meaning in life. And I said, well then, what do you say to Hitler? He felt it real hard in his life, and he did it, so that was okay. Oh no, my friend said, well you know, he says, the trouble is, most of the people's hearts in the world know that what Hitler was doing was wrong, therefore it was wrong. And I said, well you know, up to 150 years ago, most of the hearts of the world thought slavery was just fine. Do you think slavery was just fine? No. Why not? And he just looked and he shrugged and he says, you know, these things are so complex, if you think about this, you'll just dig a hole. Now this is a person I knew a very long time, and it was very, very cordial. Now here's the question. The teacher is saying, when someone says, I don't need to ask this question, I don't need to ask this question, what you really are saying is, my optimistic agnosticism, and that's the worldview the teacher is trying to absolutely smash, my optimistic agnosticism will fall apart if I ask that question. It can't deal with that question. It is demolished by that question. It is absolutely inadequate to that question. Optimistic agnosticism. Life under the sun is all there is, but there's moral truth. There's human rights. There's human dignity. Listen, if your origin isn't significant, you come from nothing, and if your destiny is insignificant, you're going to nothing, have the guts to admit that your life is insignificant. And stop talking, as if, on the one hand, you feel like you can poke holes in other people's inconsistencies. You'll poke holes in Muslims who say, I believe in God, but then they do something wrong, or Christians who say, I believe in God, do something wrong. You'll poke holes in everybody else's inconsistency, but you won't look at your own. You know, Jean -Paul Sartre made a very interesting statement. His most famous essay was right after the war, 1946. He wrote his essay called Existentialism and Humanism, and this is what he said. He says, God does not exist, and we have to face all the consequences of this. The existentialist is strongly opposed to a certain kind of secular ethics which wants to abolish God with the least possible expense. The existentialist, indeed, thinks it is very distressing that God does not exist, because all possibility of finding any values disappears with God. There can be no a priori good, since there is no infinite and perfect consciousness to think it. So nowhere is it written that we must be honest. Nowhere is it written that we must not lie, because the fact is we're on a plane where there's only us, human beings. Dostoevsky said, if God didn't exist, everything would be permissible. That is the very starting point of existentialism. If God does not exist, there is nothing within or without that can legitimize any conduct. Now, you know what is very interesting to me? Sartre took this idea, life under the sun is all there is, and you know what he says? He says, don't talk to me in any way that says that you believe that one kind of conduct is more legitimate than any other kind. One of the things that's come out recently, he died in 1980, one of the things that's come out over the last few years is what a misogynist he was. Jean -Paul Sartre was very bad to women, the women he knew, and he was very misogynist, but you know what? Whenever I read the people who accept his premise about life, and then get very upset about it, if he was alive, he would rise up, and he was only 5 '2", so that's, he would rise up, and he would say, please. He would say, you want to be free. You want to say, I am free to do what I want to do. You want to be free. As far as I know, this life is all there is. I'm not controlled by eternity, by moral absence, by God. I want to be free. Then you have got to have the guts to accept the utter meaninglessness of all distinctions. You want to be free, fine, but you have to accept it. Meaningless, meaningless, utterly meaningless, everything is meaningless. Come on. You know, Christians look like real hard -nosed skeptics compared to a view that says, life under the sun is all there is, but I'm optimistic. I have meaning in life. I can enjoy things. I know some things are right, some things are wrong. I know it's better to be compassionate than to be violent. I know these things. Talk about blind faith. Talk about naive religiosity. why Now, is he doing this? Because he also tends to see life, the preacher, the teacher, the professor sees life in a different way. One of the biggest obstacles for people to believe in Christianity is that they think they already know all about it. But if we look at Jesus' encounters with various people during His life, we'll find some of our assumptions challenged. We see Him meeting people at the point of their big, unspoken questions. The Gospels are full of encounters that made a profound impact on those who spoke with Jesus. And in His book, Encounters with Jesus, Tim Keller explores how these encounters can still address our questions and doubts today. A highlight from SEC GARY GENSLER DELAYS BLACKROCK BITCOIN ETF, ETH FUTURES ETF APPROVED, RIPPLE FORTRESS, PAYPAL CRYPTO PATENTS

"Welcome back to the Thinking Crypto Podcast, your home for cryptocurrency news and interviews. If you are new here, please hit that subscribe button as well as the thumbs up button and leave a comment below. If you're listening on a podcast platform such as Spotify, Apple or Google, please leave a five star rating and review. It supports the podcast and it doesn't cost you anything. Well, folks, I want to start off with big news from the SEC. They have delayed a bunch of Bitcoin spot ETF applications, and the applications includes BlackRock's, Bitwise and some others. So not denials, but delays. So corrupt scumbag regulator Gary Gensler continues his clown show. We know he has approved futures ETFs, and in fact, we got news that Valkyrie got their approval for an Ethereum futures ETF. So why is he approving these futures ETFs without hesitation? Because, folks, they can be used to manipulate the market and drive the price down, right? It allows for folks to short the market. And that's why a Bitcoin futures ETF was approved, multiple Bitcoin futures ETF were approved over the years. And yet the SEC kept denying spot ETF approvals. And we know in the Grayscale lawsuit, the three judges said the SEC was arbitrary and Bitcoin spot ETF. So we have to keep putting the pressure. Again, we have a delay here and I think we can expect more delays, right? Until Gary starts feeling the pressure and we saw members of Congress send letters to Gary asking him to approve the Bitcoin spot ETF and highlighting the Grayscale lawsuit. So I think eventually the pressure will be on him where he's going to have to do this. And in one way, in one way, this is a good thing that it's not getting approved now, because in my opinion, I believe the Fed is going to continue to raise rates till the end of the year. And they're going to pause officially in Q1 of 2024, where I believe they're going to start quantitative easing next year. So global liquidity will come back. Right now we are in a tightening cycle, rates are up, inflation is still an issue. So the markets are not really primed for a lot of capital to come in. That doesn't mean that the approval can happen now. But in my opinion, the approval news will help drive the price up and eventually as these products are fully launched by BlackRock and others, a lot of capital will start flowing through them. So in a way it's a good thing, but still on principle, it just shows Gary Gensler is a scumbag regulator. So once again, Valkyrie got their futures ETF approved by the SEC, so expect more volatility around Ethereum. Now, speaking of Bitcoin, a luxury car maker, Bugatti, and that's a very expensive luxury car maker, Bugatti cars, many of them are like a million dollars and over, officially launches Bitcoin ordinals collection. So really cool that big brands are adopting crypto in different ways, whether it be tokenization, NFTs, and much more. The issue is the Bitcoin blockchain cannot handle these things. It more adds congestion to the network, which increases time of transactions as well as costs. So it's not made for that. And I know there are folks who say, oh, you know, this is a good thing, but I don't think it's a good thing for Bitcoin. I think there are other blockchains out there that can handle these things and not have ridiculous costs and fees. So but I think overall, this is good for the market. Now Ripple CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, tweeted out the following today, a few weeks ago, we signed a letter of intent to acquire Fortress Trust. We've since made the decision not to move forward with an outright acquisition. The Ripple will remain as an investor in Fortress. The Fortress team is incredibly talented and has built products solving real customer problems. While this outcome is different from what was originally planned, we'll continue to support them and hope to work together in the future. So obviously, we don't know the details as to why they're pulling out here, but they will remain an investor. So just an update on that, folks. Now a quick word from our sponsor, and that is Uphold, which makes crypto investing easy. Uphold is a great platform that I've been using since 2018, so I can certainly vouch for this platform. They have 10 plus million users, 250 plus crypto currencies, and they're available in 150 countries. You can also trade precious metals and equities on this platform. If you'd like to learn more, please visit the link in the description. Now we have big news around Coinbase. They tweeted out today, the expansion continues. Thrilled to announce that Coinbase International Exchange has secured regulatory approval from the Bermuda Monetary Authority to enable perpetual futures for non -U .S. retail customers. You may have seen the phase two of our go -broad, go -deep strategy for international expansion. Providing greater access to go -broad products, including derivatives, is a crucial part of that strategy, all with the support of forward -looking regulators. Coinbase Advance will begin to offer perpetual futures trading in the coming weeks as access to regulated derivatives expands to more global customers. So really big win here for Coinbase, obviously it excludes U .S. users, but they're going to be able to offer futures trading and much more to many parts of the world. And if only the United States could get its act together and pass regulations and do the right things, you know, U .S. users could benefit from this. But you know, once again, we're dealing with clowns like Gary Gensler. Now PayPal patent apps signal an interest in Layer 2's NFTs. PayPal continues, folks, to just go aggressive in the crypto market. Obviously, recently they launched a stablecoin. We know back in 2021, they launched crypto trading for both PayPal and Venmo. They've been four patent applications, which were published since September 21, suggesting that PayPal is taking a close look at distributed ledger tech. So they're going all in, folks, and I don't blame them, right? You better innovate and adapt to the new disruptive technology, or you will be disrupted and be put out of business. Just ask the folks at Blockbuster what happened to them as Netflix and the internet and streaming and much more went and took their lunch. So really, really bullish. Let me give some details on these applications. The most recent application, published Thursday and originally filed in March of 2022, delves into the details of how validators or miners should be selected during the process of adding transactions to the blockchain. The document states that the company's disclosed techniques could advantageously allow steering of blockchain requests to a desired subsets of miners slash validators. Three other patent applications released on September 21 were also filed in March of 2022. One offered up supposedly new methods and systems to enable off -chain transactions through NFT marketplaces. Boy, imagine PayPal launching an NFT marketplace. Another mentions the concept of a so -called omniverse, which in this context suggests a product that deals in multiple metaverses. The third describes another conceptual online transaction processor. This processor's goal is to facilitate payments between users and merchants operating on different network layers, layer ones and layer twos in a more efficient manner. So essentially looking to build interoperability, that is going to be key. And notice users and merchants, right? So you may have users, let's say on the XRP ledger and merchants on the Polygon blockchain, how do they connect, right? And I'm just giving an example, obviously they mentioned layer one and layer twos here. So it could be like Ethereum and Polygon is a layer two scaling solution, but also there's going to have to be compatibility with different blockchains. So really great stuff here from PayPal and a sign of what's to come folks. This is a stuff that makes me very bullish. Now Circle, they're expanding USDC on the Polygon blockchain, and that's going to be launched on October 10th. So Circle continues to make smart moves here, pretty much getting USDC on all the top blockchains. And once again, there's going to be interoperability and much more. So the ecosystem continues to grow. Now folks, some of you may have seen this, the New York Post did an article saying the Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron, secretly withdrew $280 million in assets before the crypto firm collapsed. This is according to sources, right? So they didn't provide any proof. Well, the folks at Gemini, they addressed this issue and gave some clarity that it's actually false. They said, we are disappointed that the New York Post has chosen to recklessly publish a completely misleading story about the Gemini earn program. Everything the post alleges in its story is the exact opposite. The $282 million that was withdrawn from the Genesis in August of 2022 was in fact earned users money. It was not Gemini's corporate funds, and it was not the personal funds of our founders, Cameron and Tyler, or their investment from Winklevoss Capital. So they clarified that, but kind of a hit piece here from the New York Post. Now folks, speaking of the Winklevoss twins, Mark Zuckerberg, and many of you know the history of Facebook with the Winklevoss twins and Mark Zuckerberg, well, Mark was interviewed on the Lex Friedman podcast, and they did it through the metaverse. People have been roasting Mark and his version of metaverse for years, they've lost billions of dollars. Look, I've even roasted him a little bit, right? Because their metaverse product was not great, but boy, have they made a huge leap. Guys, go check out the interview with Mark Zuckerberg on the Lex Friedman podcast. They did it through the metaverse using the Oculus, and the new feature is this lifelike representation of their faces and their upper body, essentially, and it is incredible, folks. It is incredible. You have to see this. And you may say, Tony, why are we talking about this? Well, folks, this metaverse set up with full immersion, right, will eventually include a lot of NFTs and blockchain and tokens. It's all part of the same technological adoption. You're going to see more tokenization, once again, everything running on the blockchain, and you're going to need the blockchain in the metaverse because it's going to be hard to plug in Web2 payment apps, right? It's going to be hard to go use PayPal in the metaverse versus using stable coins or different tokens to exchange value. So this is incredible. I'm really blown away by what Mark and the folks at Meta did here. And I'm not some big advocate of you must live in the metaverse. I believe the metaverse is going to be useful. I think with everything in life, you've got to have balance. Will I be participating in some metaverses? Yes. Will I be spending all my time in the metaverse? No. I will be out getting fresh air, touching grass, going out for walks and so forth. That is how I grew up. Obviously, we live in a digital world, but we have to balance it out. But future generations, if you're listening, some of you younger kids, somebody listening to this 10 years from now, please don't be fully immersed in the metaverse. Have a balance, spend some of your life outside of it. But folks, this is incredible. Go check it out. Finally, some more good news here. Our judge denies temporary release for Sam Bankman -Fried suggests he could face a very long sentence. That is music to my ears. I love it. This guy is a fraud, a liar, a criminal. He should go to jail along with Alex Mashinsky. And we have to make sure we do a good job of flagging these guys, man, because we don't need this kind of stuff in the crypto industry. We're trying to mature, have good infrastructure and avoid any type of corruption and criminal activity as best as possible. Obviously, it's hard to stop those things. They happen because it's part of human nature. Just look at Bernie Madoff. He was in the most regulated financial markets, yet he was scamming people out of millions, if not billions. I hope this guy goes to jail for a long time and he doesn't get off because we know his parents are connected politically and there's a whole bunch of stuff that's been happening there where money from FTX was funneled to his parents. So, you know, I hope they are all held accountable, folks, friendly reminder, my interview with Congressman Warren Davidson will be published tomorrow. So be sure to check that out. Make sure you got the subscribe button hit, hit the five star rating on the podcast platforms. And I'll talk to you all later. Bye bye.

A highlight from Self-Custody, CoinJoins, and Q&A with Craig Raw, Sparrow Wallet - September 27th, 2023

"Hello, and welcome to the Cafe Bitcoin Podcast brought to you by Swan Bitcoin, the best way to buy and learn about Bitcoin. I'm your host, Alex Danson, and we're excited to announce that we're bringing the Cafe Bitcoin Conversations Twitter Spaces to you on this show, the Cafe Bitcoin Podcast, Monday through Friday every week. Join us as we speak to guests like Michael Saylor, Len Alden, Corey Clifston, Greg Foss, Tomer Strohle, and many others in the Bitcoin space. Also, be sure to hit that subscribe button. Make sure you get notifications when we launch a new episode. You can join us live on Twitter Spaces Monday through Friday, starting at 7 a .m. Pacific and 10 a .m. Eastern every morning to become part of the conversation yourself. Thanks again. We look forward to bringing you the best Bitcoin content daily here on the Cafe Bitcoin Podcast. All right. All right. Let's go. I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting fired up. Bitcoin is next week. Dude, I am so excited. I'm I'm visiting three Bitcoiners on the way down. Super excited. It's going to be a hell of a lot of fun. Yeah, man. All right. Good morning and welcome, Dom Bay, Mickey. I assume that's Jordan on the Bitcoin Veterans handle, Terrence, Peter, Shane Hazel on the audience, throwing you an invite. Right. OK, quick little update. So next week, next week, we are not doing Cafe Bitcoin on Monday and Tuesdays. Swan team is traveling on Monday. Tuesday, we're going to be having like an offsite. So not going to be around Wednesday. We are resuming our regular schedule. Broadcasting from the hotel Thursday. Broadcasting live from the Swan dome Thursday morning and Friday morning. So on Thursday, we've got our crew plus BTC sessions. Ben Perrin on Friday. We are going to have Tip Enzi and Tomer Strohlight. We'll do it live. Do it live. I can write it and we'll do it live. Yeah, finally, dude, that's what I'm talking about. That's preparation. Asking Tip Enzi if she wants to perform Cantillionaire's game live. I don't know if that's going to happen, but we're going to ask her. If she does that, I will need padded area around me because that that would be insane. That's that's a tough song to do live, though, for sure. Oh, shit. Yeah. Right. You need to do some Wim Hof breathing exercises before spitting that that verse. Dude, I mean, she told me that like she's not really a rapper, right? She did a lot of editing to make the songs come out the way she wants. Good morning, Shane. How are you doing? Good morning, brother. I am working away here in the background, just enjoying a nice respite from the heat down here in North Georgia, man. It's pretty nice, but I'm getting pretty excited for PV next week. And I have a lot of people. I'm actually hosting a panel out there and looking forward to it. Yeah, that's right. That's the other thing. We're going to be doing a Bitcoin Veterans panel live at the Swan Dome. I think that's going to be on Friday. So that'll be cool. That's going to be myself, Shane Hazel. It will be Gabe Lord, Mickey Koss and Jordan Ganrel. The Swan Dome has some firepower this year. I'm not going to lie. Yeah, man. I don't know. I think this is the test run. They're not sure if they want to let Bitcoin Veterans on the main stage yet. They're testing, they're seeing, they're like, what are these crazy fuckers going to do? Like, let's see what's up. Yeah, let me just apologize in advance for screwing up our chances at that. Let me go ahead and apologize for Jordan in advance, too, because, I mean, I think if we don't burn it down, it's a huge success. We all are apologizing to Jordan and for Jordan in advance and considering getting an extra insurance rider for this particular event. OK, what time are you all going up to five? No, no. So Bitcoin Veterans is going to we're doing Cafe Bitcoin 9 a .m. Sharp Eastern and then there will be a short intro and then we're going right into Bitcoin Veterans starting at 10 a .m. on Friday in the Swan Dome. God, I was only asking because if you were going after myself in blue collar, it would for sure be already burned down. So it's checking. Any update on the flamethrower? Having a little trouble in the marshal's office. They don't seem to think that 30 to 40 foot flame lengths that I can handle that. So it's it's a back and forth. It's unlikely, but, you know, never say never. All right, we'll hold out hope. Let's get rolling into the show today. You are listening to Cafe Bitcoin. This is episode 443. Shout outs to our supporters on Fountain and Noster Nests. Our mission for this show is to provide the signal in a sea of noise. Teach the other seven billion people on this planet why there's hope because of this bright orange future that we call Bitcoin. Today, we are discussing Bitcoin news, covering some lizard alerts and talking about what's going on in the real estate markets as well. Later today, we have Craig Raw, the founder of Sparrow, looking forward to that. We're going to we're going to dig in. Last time we had Craig here, we did kind of a lot of background stuff like what is Sparrow all that. Today, we're going to get a little deeper into the weeds. We're going to go straight into the technical stuff. So if you want to know about Sparrow, have questions, whatever. We're going to go straight into that. Right. What's the most interesting breaking news? There's a congressman beating up Gary Gensler now to get those ETFs approved. And then at the same time, the SEC just delayed like three ETFs, I think, even though they're not even, you know, like a month from the deadline. And so they're starting to kick the can earlier, I guess. So it's sort of a strange situation. Maybe they're trying to line up all the timelines or something. Good morning, on the four elected officials in their open letter asking, demanding Gensler approve the Bitcoin ETF. They mentioned Fidelity, BlackRock and Grayscale, thanks to probably the lobbying by Barry Silbert and his compadres. Grayscale doesn't belong in that group. It just doesn't because BlackRock and Fidelity together manage about 13 trillion freaking dollars. Grayscale is a pimp. It's a fly on the windshield. It's very small. And Barry has a lot of problems with his ethics and genesis, GBTC kind of co -mingling funds or whatever they were doing. I understand that a lot of people who have GBTC, I have GBTC, want the conversion to happen sooner. But they're just not in the same class, ethically and just practically. That's like saying a corner grocery store belongs with Walmart. Well, all right then. So Franklin Templeton just filed a 19B -4 for its spot Bitcoin ETF application, which is officially starting the clock with the SEC. Franklin Templeton manages another one and a half trillion dollars. So the big boys are looking like the big boys are wading into the game. Yeah, the big four are besides Franklin Templeton, which is about one and a half trillion. The last one is Invesco, which is also about one and a half trillion. And those are all much bigger than the biggest of the also RANs or the smaller spot BTC applicants like ARK. And Valkyrie and so forth, they're much, much smaller, maybe tens of billions or less. Hey, Terrence, for a liquor store, doesn't Grayscale have a lot of Bitcoin in custody? They do. It's going to be pretty minor compared to the rush of cash that should flood in. Assuming like, you know, the DOJ stuff with Binance and stuff is looks like it's there's more certainty around that. They're trying to they're talking about maybe having a plea deal with CZ and Binance. So if that gets resolved, then yeah, you have a pretty big green light. I will say like one thing with the gold ETFs when those took off and gold prices shot up. That will also correlated with massive problems in the fiscal and monetary policy. And we definitely have that on the fiscal side. I would say on the monetary side rates are, you know, higher than you'd like for liquidity, money supplies going down. But on the fiscal side, with a ridiculous spending debt and deficits, that sets up a big that's a great setup for a big flood of cash to come in. As long as one of the big four launches a big Bitcoin ETF. Hey, Alex, not to not to revisit an old horse, I know that's a butchering of the phrase, but, you know, I know yesterday we were talking about institutional. And for those listening again, like, you know, the ETF comes up a lot again because it is a vehicle for institutional funds to hold commodities. I know you guys were talking about it yesterday, but like other commodities, as far as I know, funds like pension funds, any commodities they hold, none of it is physical. All of it is futures or ETF indexes. And a lot of that has to do with being able to liquidate, move things around, balance the fund, etc. All right, well, you would you mind explaining that a little more in depth for people who don't get that? Because so many I've run into many people who don't understand that they're like, why don't pension funds just buy the underlying asset? Why don't they buy the Bitcoin directly? Why don't they buy gold directly? Why don't they buy corn directly? Why don't they buy oil directly? What's the problem with that? Yeah, so one of the things with pension funds is there's a lot going on.

First Births Can Be Incredible Too...

"You had this amazing birth experience especially given that it was your first baby which I always try to tell moms just because it's your first baby doesn't mean it has to be hard and terrible. Sometimes it can be a little bit more challenging but first births can be incredible too. I would love to know how you prepared. How did you choose what kind of a birth experience you wanted? When you found out you were pregnant did you always know that you wanted an unmedicated birth? How did that all come to be? I I wish had known any of what I know now when I first found out I was pregnant. I truly didn't. It sounds so crazy from where I started and where I came. I truly just had a whole education process through it all. I did not know you could give birth outside of a hospital. I did not know there was such a thing as unmedicated and medicated. I didn't know all the things I needed to consider. I think I was 21 when I got pregnant. I just graduated college. We were newly married. I guess it just wasn't something that I learned growing up. We started off. I went to my OBGYN who I had only ever seen once in my entire life. I didn't really know her. It was a very terrible experience. She wouldn't look us in the eyes. She wouldn't talk to us. She threw away our first ultrasound pictures and didn't give them to us. Just very not a human experience that you want to have with someone who is going to deliver your child. Very quickly I was just like we left and I cried and I was like there's got to be a different way. From there I set out. I had seen a friend post something and I was kind of following along her birth journey. She hadn't given birth yet but I was following along her whole pregnancy journey and she started talking about home births and going to a chiropractor and a midwife and all these different things. I just started messaging her and I was like what are you doing? I just need to know what's going on because you look like you're having a great time. Through her I found the account Pain Free Birth which I know that you know about too. That just changed my whole perception of everything. I grew up more of a Church of Christ background. We just interpret Genesis not the same way that a lot of other denominations interpret it. It's very literal and you will be in pain forever. All these things. It really took just finding that account and talking to this girl and really breaking down all of that and being like okay that's not what this means. If we go back and actually really look at what is being said here. We are not cursed. We are made perfect and whole. It is not meant to be an awful experience. That was just a huge perception shift for me. Taking that forward I took the Pain Free Birth courses. Really loved those. That just really helped get me educated and I was like okay I have to find a different provider because we cannot do an OBGYN. I would have loved to do a home birth which sounds silly. Spoiler alert I did do a home birth. I originally chose a birthing center up here in the Woodlands which I absolutely adore. From the moment we walked in I knew it was where we wanted to give birth because it had very coffee shop vibes. Was it the Addis? Yes. I love them so much. I assisted a mom there a couple months ago now. It is just like you walk in that birth center and you are like it is so beautiful. It is gorgeous. From the moment we stepped in there I was like this is where I am giving

A highlight from Celestia Announces TIA Genesis Drop

"Welcome to your Ethereum news roundup. Here is your latest for Tuesday, September 26th, 2023. Celestia announces its TIA token genesis drop, the EF ecosystem support program announces a data collection grants wave, Blocknative suspends MEV boost relay, and Paradigm launches a crypto policy initiative. All this and more starts right now. The Arbitrum on Gitcoin Grants Round is now live. If you'd like to support this podcast, please consider contributing by visiting ethdaily .io forward slash gitcoin. Celestia, a modular data availability network, unveiled plans for its Genesis Drop, an airdrop of its native network and governance token called TIA. The airdrop will distribute 60 million TIA tokens, equivalent to 6 % of the token's total supply, to developers and on -chain addresses that have interacted with Ethereum rollups, Cosmos Hub, and Osmosis. Eligible users can claim their airdrop until October 17th of this year. The claimed tokens will be readily accessible directly in users' wallets once the network launches on mainnet. TIA tokens will be used to pay for blob space within Celestia's network, which operates on a data availability sampling -based architecture. The Ethereum Foundation ecosystem support program announced the Data Collection Grants, a grants initiative for research and development related to data collection and visualization of the Ethereum network. The program seeks the development of open -source infrastructure for testnets and data collection, such as fork monitors, better indexing, and standardized data models. Builders can submit a proposal between now and October 23rd. Proposals can be at any stage of development, however the program does not reward retroactive work. Grant selection criteria includes the potential impact to the Ethereum data ecosystem, relevant team experience, budget and timeline, and alignment with the program's goals. BlockNative is suspending its MEV Boost relay and associated Ethereum block builders, effective from September 27th at 8 a .m. PST. The relay data API will also be deprecated after October 4th. BlockNative says the change is not expected to disrupt validator, builder, searcher, or other network operations. BlockNative cited a focus on economically viable opportunities aligned with its values and capabilities as the reason for the service suspension. Validators, searchers, and BlockNative Protect users are advised to make changes to their connection configurations to avoid encountering error messages after the suspension. And lastly, Paradigm launched the Paradigm Policy Lab, an initiative for crypto policy consisting of a team disciplined in academia, law, and technology. A highlight from Dennis & Julie: Exciting versus Enduring

"Hey everybody, Dennis Prager with Julie Hartman, Dennis and Julie. One of my favorite hour and 12 minutes of the week. Me too. Isn't that amazing? Yes. And what's also amazing is that we actually do probably three or four Dennis and Julie's a week that are not recorded because we talk on the phone so often. And sometimes, I don't know if you think this, sometimes when we're done speaking, I'm like, wish that were recorded. Really? Yes. That's an interesting point. But you know what's also great? We are very personal on this show. There's really, I can't think of many things that we talk about privately that we wouldn't talk about publicly. I think people understand that. That's why that guy called me and I've talked about this a lot, said, I have a great word for you Dennis, transparent, because I decided early on in my career that as unnatural as it seems, because people obviously hide parts of their lives from others, I thought I'm going to hide as little as possible. That's why people say to me more often than any other things when strangers meet me, you know, I feel like I really know you and I'm sorry and I say, you do. I can attest to that as someone who knows you off the air as well as on the air, listeners really do know you. It's also just easier being transparent because I can imagine that it's difficult to have to think, oh, did I say that? Should I say this? That's right. It's just kind of your default. It's like it's easier to be faithful than have an affair. Aside from all the moral issues and the hurt of my spouse, all of that stuff, putting aside that they're all real. A major reason not to have an affair is because of the amount of hiding you have to do and lying. It is not possible to have an affair and not become a serial liar. Well, one lie begets another lie, which begets another. It has to. I mean, if you say I was at the doctor's and they say, how was it? And then you go, yeah, let's say your wife runs into the doctor. You know, like it just it's this tangled web of of deceit that's I can imagine difficult to keep up. You know, in that regard, it's amazing how our conversations just developed. So I'm going to say something that will strike people at the outset as odd at best and maybe even bad at worst. So when I meet somebody who's having an affair, because people open up to me, in most instances, my first reaction, I may know more and change my reaction, is I feel bad for them. I obviously feel bad for the spouse, that's a given. But my sense is, and by the way, I believed this when I was your age, well before I was ever married. I sensed that most people who have an affair, it is not because they're bad. And oh my God, I can't believe I'm saying this to you. One of my favorite Bible commentaries is by Richard Elliot Friedman. He is a brilliant scholar, University of California, San Diego now. I think he's at the University of Georgia, a major biblical scholar. And if I say that, you can believe me because I know my Bible. And he's written a commentary on the Torah, which I love. I love it. And obviously I'm writing my own. So I refer to his. Under adultery, in other words, the commandment, thou shalt commit adultery. He wrote, I wish I had the entire, I could find it, but we don't have breaks during Dennis and Julie, but I would like to read it exactly. But he wrote, and I just read this to my synagogue this past Sabbath, I read his line about this. That good people commit adultery, and he italicized good. And I thought that this guy's human. And I've been faithful, so I have no self -interest in this. But to assume that everybody who commits adultery is evil is beyond simplistic. You commit murder, okay, if that's not evil, you could say, well, you could say a good person could commit evil, could commit murder. It's a bit of a stretch. It could happen, but generally speaking, that's not true. But anyway, good people who commit adultery, and by good, I mean the non -serial adulterers people who just go from affair to affair, I have no defense of as a human being. You mean like a one -time thing? Yes, or fell in love. If somebody falls in love with somebody else while married, it usually means there's a lot problematic in the marriage. People in love with their spouse don't fall in love with another spouse. Okay, this is such a good topic, and I want to pause and say what we always say. We had no idea that we were going to discuss this. I love that about this show. It just blossoms. Because it's real. It's real, and it's incredibly spontaneous. Okay, a lot of questions. This is where I'm going to evoke the, what do you call your radio show, the Human Laboratory? This is where this is particularly useful. So most people who tell you about their infidelity, I'm assuming most of them are male? Or is it even? Yes, that's correct. What would you say the percentage is? Of those who tell me? Yes. It's high. It's 75%. Male? Yeah. Okay. And usually, do they tell you that they're unhappy in their marriage? Yeah. And what is the most cited reason for the unhappiness? They don't feel loved by their spouse. Loved in what way? You're tough. I'm not trying to be tough. She is tough. All right. Maybe, okay. You don't want to go there. No, no. There's nowhere I don't want to go. Anyway, even if I don't want to go, I go there. That's true. So, okay. For the record, generally speaking, a man who feels sexually fulfilled with his wife is going to stay faithful. This is so foreign to women that they just have to take my word for it. That's not how women think. Women do not have affairs because they're not sexually fulfilled by their husband. Some might, I fully acknowledge, but they don't feel emotionally fulfilled. That's much more a woman's reason, and I have just as much sympathy for her as for him. It's not, all I'm saying is, and I don't even remember how we got on this, but it's amazing that we did. How did we? Yeah. It's funny. I usually remember the genesis of a subject, but all I'm saying is when I meet people, my first reaction is not, wow, that's evil. If I met a murderer, yeah, or not even a murderer. Frankly, doctors who give hormone blockers to 10 -year -olds are doing evil. I have much more contempt for them than for somebody who had an affair. Okay, so let me ask you this. Let's say you got a call from a guy who was five years into his marriage. He has three or two young children, and he calls you and he goes, Dennis, I am not happy in my marriage. It's not awful, but I'm not happy, and I have my eyes on another woman. What do I do? Do I stay in my marriage that's unhappy, or do I leave because I'm unhappy? I'd say do everything possible to make yourself happy in your marriage, which by the way involves obviously working it through with your wife, but it also involves working it through with yourself. So, I'm a guy's guy. I'm male as as they come. So, men really relate to me. Happily, a lot of women do too, but it's not the same thing. Male -male is not the same as female -male. Okay, so I understand men really well, and I explain men to women. So, both sexes have to adopt the Prager notion of not having too many expectations. I think it's fair to say, nobody says this, because sex is ironic. We have a sexually drenched society, and yet people never talk honestly about it. That is very well said. It's mind -boggling. It's mind -boggling. You're so right, and people get upset when you talk about it. That's right, because I'm honest. So here is something I would say to men, guys, just know you are not going to have the sexual life you fantasized in the vast majority of cases. It's just the way it works. You mean when you get married? Yeah, when you get married. I'm sorry, that's right. I wasn't clear. Yes, when you get married. And therefore, you enjoy what you have. Now, obviously, I'm not going to give it a time factor limit. It's different when you're 25 than when you're 55 or 75. All of that is real. But I remember when I was in high school thinking, wow, to be married, you have this woman anytime you want. Oh, gosh. Such a male thought. Exactly. This was worth the entire broadcast. My comment and your reaction? I think I represent all women. Yes, exactly. Watching and listening. And I represent all men. That's the point. So that was my fantasy in high school. Oh, my God, it must be the greatest possible situation being married. She's there whenever you want her. So men… I just looked at the camera. So men have to understand it's not going to be that way. Are there exceptions? I'm talking in general, of course, there are exceptions to every rule in life. So I really ought to, if I had the time, I would write an advice book to men. Oh, you really should. Who is it? George Gilder wrote that man book? That man book? Sexual Suicide and the Naked Nomad. He deeply influenced me. So, men need to understand… By the way, we all need to understand… I don't know what women's fantasies are about marriage. Her fantasies are not likely to be fully realized either. So it's best probably not to have fantasy… I don't care if you have fantasies, it's fine to have a fantasy life, but in the sense of directing you in your emotional reaction is not a good idea. And in your reality, it can't direct your reality too much. That's right. So I have told men, I'll tell you where I feel for men. And that is, if they're married to a woman, I'm just talking the sexual arena now. If they're married to a woman who doesn't take care of herself physically, that's given the power of looks in the human species, it's the female that attracts the male. I know there are gorgeous men who attract women, but most men are not gorgeous. What attracts women to men is not that they're gorgeous. they're Certainly when reached by age of 30, a high school girl is going to go, Oh God, is he gorgeous? Oh God, you know, that's fine, it's part of life. But one of the biggest ways you show you love your husband is by taking care of yourself physically, trying to look good. And the proof is you tried to look good when you dated. Why did you stop trying once you got married? That's not fair to him. You're right, and it's not fair when men have B .O. and also don't take care of themselves, which I know you recognize. No, of course, but that's not the same thing. The B .O. holds for both, but looking gorgeous or as gorgeous as you can, I mean, looking cute. In peacocks, the male attracts the female. In humans, the female attracts the male. It's just the way it works. And if she succeeds in doing it, he gets aroused and they make the next generation. That is how human sexuality works. I really love what you said a few minutes ago about we live in this over sexualized society that also gets so upset when people like you and me talk about sexual matters, not to overhype our importance, but people who are brave enough to talk about sex within with a Judeo -Christian good values worldview are so valuable. I don't understand. Yeah, but a lot of them do, but they're not real. A lot of the religious people who talk about sexual matters are not rooted in the real world. So what is an example? Masturbation. Wow, welcome to Dennis and Julie. But the proof is nobody feels that they can talk about it. Yes, that's true. I mean, I debated a guy, very religious guy, seen by hundreds of thousands of people on the internet. He said, masturbation is evil. And he's speaking from a religious point of view. Evil? I said, I looked at him and I said, evil? I mean, if he says it's a sin, fine. Every religion has a whole list of sins. But evil? And I challenged him. I said, are you serious? It's evil? I mean, child molestation is evil. Genocide is evil. I know. Masturbation is the charge. Of course it does. So religious, you're right about the Judeo -Christian values perspective. Unfortunately, a lot of religious people have made religion look silly and people have therefore rejected it. You know, you're right. I think a lot of people point to something like that and go, that's just, that's too far for me. It's too far, exactly. It's difficult, the job of being religious, because you obviously want to promote good values, but you also want to be real and recognize that there are certain thoughts and proclivities and actions that a lot of human beings partake in. And so it's about mitigating the, I was going to say mitigating the harm of those, but allowing them to happen as long as they don't go too far or as long as they're not harmful. Yeah, that's right. So people should read a book by an Orthodox rabbi, Shmueli Boteach, who's a well -known rabbi, B -O -T -E -A -C -H, in English, Boteach, but it's pronounced Boteach, and it's called Kosher Sex. It's a great book. That's a good title. Great title. And whole his thesis is, you keep sex within a marriage, but within a marriage, do whatever the hell you want, providing the other person agrees, obviously. And, you know, as raunchy as it may sound to the outsider, if you two agree to it, the only restriction is that it's not with another. You know, God, of course, I forgot my train of thought. I just I really marvel at how real this is. And sometimes when you make these comments, I think, God, he is gutsy. He really goes there. You know, I am gutsy. I want to tell you, this is very revealing about me. People will take it for what it's worth. I decided very early in my life, if I want to do good in this world, that's all I've ever wanted to do. I will not shy away from putting myself out there and knowing I'm going to get slapped. And that's the reason I do it. It's not fun to talk about masturbation, but I know how many people are traumatized by the message you're doing evil. And it makes religion and God look bad, and I don't like that. Mm hmm. And here's the thing, also, it's uncomfortable to acknowledge, but it's the truth. People do the like I mean, this is the whole point of the conversation. People do these things. What are we going to pretend like they don't exist? We have to deal with them. And I think it's cowardly to run away. Look, I have told you, Dennis, that I grew up in a house that didn't talk about these matters. And I'm grateful, actually, because I think there are certain boundaries that ought to be respected. And I there's a time and a place to discuss things like this, but we do have that forum to do it. And I don't understand I don't understand when people deny reality. We are seeing the harm in the United States today of denying reality, including in the sexual arena. I mean, that's this whole hookup culture thing by by contorting reality to make women believe that they want sex as much as men is harming women. Plain and simple it is. Is it uncomfortable to acknowledge the reality of males extreme sexual proclivities? Yes, but we have to because we're seeing the consequences when we don't. So I applaud you. And I do think sometimes I'm like, wow, he he's really going there. He's gutsy. But but people need a good role model for these matters. Well, you don't make a good world if you're not gutsy. True. You can't build a good world on cowardice. And it's so hypocritical because people people have sex. People do these things. And I don't I don't I dislike the people that that are on some kind of moral high ground when they talk about this stuff. It's like, please, you do it to your human being. Don't act like you don't partake in these things that you decry. Right. And some of them probably don't. But my question is, are they better human beings in general? You know, I talked I said to you what Richard Elliott Friedman said, that a lot of people who commit adultery are good people. It's because it's it's weakness more than anything or or something else. I'm not talking about serial adulterers.

"Ladies and gentlemen, looking for something new and original, something unique and without equal, look no further. Here comes the one and only Eric Mataxas. Folks, welcome. I've spoken previously on this program to our friend Rabbi Jason Sobol, who has certain many books. The new one is called Signs and Secrets of the Messiah. And last time, Rabbi, you were telling us some of these amazing correlations between the Old and the New Testament and the Jewishness of the New Testament, which people should know, but sometimes they forget how profoundly the New Testament is a commentary on the Old Testament and points us back and how the Old Testament points us forward over and over. And last time you talked about the paralytic or the man who was unable to walk for 38 years. And you said that that relates to the Israelites wandering in the desert for 38 years, and you explained about how they had been prepared by God for two years, but then they wandered for 38 years. I just find that kind of stuff so fascinating. So I know the new book is called Signs and Secrets of the Messiah. What other things like that do you mention in Signs and Secrets of the Messiah? I mean, we get into so many miracles and, you know, God is in the details, right? So if there's a detail in the Bible, it's there for a reason. So, you know, again, the first miracle we talked about last time I was with you is the first miracle we talked about in Signs and Secrets, which is the water into wine. Well, there's a detail there. It says that he said fill six stone pots to the brim. Well, the question is, if it says six stone pots, what's the significance that there's six stone pots? Why not seven? Why not eight? Well, some of the significance there is that we have to understand there's a lot. Man was created on the sixth day. In Jewish thought, we fell on the sixth day. When Jesus comes and he gives his life for us on the cross, OK, he dies on Friday, which is the sixth day of the week. He dies on a cross. Why? Because the first man and woman stole from the tree. So God puts Jesus, who Paul calls the second Adam, back on the tree for you and me with the crown of thorns on his head. Why? What's the sign of the curse of creation? The ground produced thorns and thistle. He takes the curse on his head to break it and restore the blessing. And so when Jesus dies on the same day man was created and fell and he does his first miracle with six stone pots, he's saying, I am restoring the fruitfulness that was lost at creation. And I don't want you to any more live out of the lack, but to live out of the overflow. And by the way, the number six in Hebrew is written with the letter Bob. It's the conjunction and it's a letter that connects heaven and earth. When we sin, we broke the connection. Jesus comes back to restore it, that we might experience his blessing. That is some heavy stuff that is absolutely amazing. Say that again about the letter when you write the number six in Hebrew, talk about that again, because I want to make sure I catch that. Yeah, absolutely. So Hebrew is alphanumeric. So there's no Roman numerals in the Bible. Both Hebrew and Greek have an alphanumeric component, meaning that if I say open up the chapter one in your Bible, I'll say open up to chapter Aleph, because it's the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet has a numerical value of one. The sixth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the Hebrew letter of love. It's the most used letter in the five books of Moses, and it's the conjunction. And the first place the letter of love occurs in the Bible is in the first verse of the Bible, Genesis one, one. And in Hebrew, there are seven words in Genesis one, one corresponding to the seven days of creation. The sixth word of Genesis one begins with the sixth letter. God created the heavens. That's the fifth. And that's the sixth. And Earth is seven. When we sin, we broke the vow, the letter, the number six, the letter Bob that connects heaven and earth. When Jesus dies on Friday and does the miracle with the six stones pots, he's restoring the connection and the blessing that was lost in the beginning.

A highlight from An Introduction to Acts

"So good to be back again on a Wednesday night. Good to see your faces and appreciate your prayers so much. As I was talking to Pastor Nathan, what's on my heart, I'd like to begin a series of studies from the book of Acts with you tonight. The Acts of the Apostles, or more appropriately, the Acts of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ and through the Apostles' labors. We want to remember some things before we try to delve into the text, actual text. We need to remember that Luke, the beloved physician referred to in Colossians 12. We know that he traveled with the Apostle Paul and most commentators that I've read claim that Luke was a Gentile and that as a Gentile grew up in Antioch of Syria. And if you recall in Acts chapter 13, remember the Apostle Paul and Barnabas were members at the church at Antioch. So that's where the relationship actually began. And Brother Luke is a special character in the tapestry of God's witnesses because he in the gospel narrative that is bearing his name chronicled historically the birth and ministry of Christ as well as his death, burial, and resurrection. And I want to go to Luke chapter 24 and show you how Luke ended his gospel message that was written about 60 to 62 A .D. and connected to the first chapter of the book of Acts. Here we find Christ appearing to his disciples and verse 45, he opened their understanding that they might understand the Scriptures, which would relate to the Old Testament. Remember that's all they had at that time. They had the Old Testament Scriptures, the Old Testament from Genesis to Malachi. That's the reference here to Scriptures. And he said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem, and ye are witnesses of these things. Now I just want to make this note here. It's Brother Luke that mentions that the gospel is to go to all nations. Now that includes the Gentiles.

A highlight from A MAN'S GIFT

"Hi everyone good morning you're welcome to the refinance on his podcast once again and I'm your host the beneath the bassin I trust that the Lord is he then has been so gracious to you all right without wasting most of your time I I just wanted to share a bit of what the Lord is laying in my heart this morning with you and I'm trying to bring a corrective doctrine and let's bring a balance to this very subject because it has been it has been trending for a while and I just want us to have a proper understanding what scriptures really talked about our central text will be taken from Proverbs chapter 18 from verse 16 and it is actually talking about the wisdom in getting along with others okay so I got to understand that to actually relate properly with other people that there is a certain kind of wisdom that the Lord has the Lord expect of us yes there's something that the Lord expect of us yes there is an attitude there's a lifestyle it expects us to live so I I trust that the Lord will help us this morning in the name of Jesus so Proverbs chapter 18 from verse 16 I'm gonna read it in different translations and how the myths of God explain it I mean bit by bit so the Bible says in King James Version a man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men all right the good news Bible says that do not do you want to meet an important person is it take a gift and it will be easy that's a good news translation so let's go to the passion translation the person translation says would you like to meet a very important person is it take a generous gift it would do wonders to gain entrance into his presence you see this very scripture is bringing so much attention to what has been trending so they must gift make it room for him so a lot of people used to think it is what they call it now it is relating to someone's inherent talent someone's order calling now like let's say gifting oh I was born with a gift but the scriptures in Hebrew chapter 18 is practically talking about your relationship with other people and in verse 16 the Bible says if you want to get access you want to meet an important person if you want to be faithful by an important person now we're not talking about bribery as in Proverbs chapter 17 essentially Proverbs chapter 17 was talking about bribery no it's not bribery but this is this gift is giving you access now this talks about access to to important personalities amen so the Bible says if you want to meet an important person get a generous gift and it's going to do wonders I think that's a passion translation you're going to do a lot of wonders so I also carefully look at this in some other perspectives so the Proverbs is a simple recognition of factual generosity and politeness opens many many doors so you can just go to meet an important person for example the let me get let me get let me get that scripture straight but I want to really place so much emphasis I mean so much so much emphasis on on this very subject because I know that there has been a whole lot of misappropriation miss everything has been I mean everything has been taken in the wrong direction so Deuteronomy chapter chapter come chapter 16 verse 16 the Bible says three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose in the feast of unleavened bread and in the feast of weeks and in the feast of tabernacles and they shall not appear before the Lord empty amen so this is not talking about your talent not talk about your gift this is more of your reverence your honor to a person that you you revere highly this is having to talk about your attitude your your the level at which you are not a person that this important person you're going to me so it must make it so all that can be very foolish and they go to meet an important person empty handed okay but you came with a gift you have so much access okay you have so much attention because you you have whole not this person coming to it you did not come to meet this person empty handed you came with something so a gift is more is more general than bread so here the proverb simply says that a gift can expedite matters but says nothing about bribing judges no so in Genesis chapter 43 verse 11 Jacob knew well and therefore paid his sons to take a present for the governor of the land presented a governor of the land though it were though it were both of every good thing a little so saw in first so was very very I mean King Saul was very very attentive to this very fact so his father's ass got missing and the guy said is there no man of God and the servant of which he was talking with said there is one there's one we know there's one we know and then when he went to go and see the man of God to inquire about is the loss as he did not go empty okay so it can it can it can also be an innocent courtesy of very early con that's a gift to reconcile that like a present Minha sent to the captain that was in first how much as a 20 generous at the 43 verse 11 that's King that's also please you have to take note of this very passage so that say that um you can really understand where I'm coming from and what I'm actually talking about so a lot of people misuse this very subject I mean they talk about their giftings and how talented you are and you see a lot of people start to charge before they can be a blessing to God's people they collect so much money some will be asking you how much is your honorarium budget because they believe that that the scriptures here is talking about what they have inside of them what the Lord gave to them is it freely I have given and I mean freely I've received and then free you have to give so they don't you know that very very scripture they go ahead you go ahead to scatter the the context of scripture just to suit their personal lost I think I made this I made something about this podcast episode happy some some some weeks ago about how people will go about decontextualizing the scripture just to suit their personal lost so a minister who is drawn after Mammon or who is was so much lost for money will now be selling what God gave to him freely and that he was supposed to to give out freely because God gave it to him freely so a man of God will start mechanizing the gift the giftings of God and then using the scripture to to back it up please I beg in the name of God we need to go back to our Bible studies we need to we need to check yes I know you spent so much I know you spent a whole lot to improve on yourself yes second Timothy chapter 2 I think from verse 15 apostle Paul was speaking to Timothy is a study to show yourself approved a workman and it's not patient so the Lord invested in you of course you will need to you will need to work that out you need to make him know that truly you're not wasting that which he bestowed in you amen you need to prove that okay I'm not saying that ministers of the gospel the mind of God should not be cornered of course when they are the concept I know you are still asking me to give you a million dollars you are outside the kingdom of God I'm telling you the truth now I expect to you in all honesty I tell you nothing I am NOT talking because I'm perfect I'm into the full image but I am bringing by the message how do you say part of the money to account before you come now we take the context or the lifestyle of the world to God's Kingdom yes the Lord is supposed to the Lord is supposed to sincerely yes but this is not the root the Bible says he blessed the works of your hands yes now now believe me the fact that you're doing ministry does not mean that you should not walk amen now the fact that you are you a minister of the gospel doesn't mean that you should be I don't know except and unless the Lord sends you I said oh go and do justice and if the Lord asks you to I mean give yourself totally to this cause which he has chosen you for I'm sure he's going to make provision not you make challenging and looking for ways to provide for yourself no how about some sweet little Lord is my shepherd I shall not want if you really know the God in which you are serving you should understand it now to Elijah the Bible says that the Lord commanded arabian arriving to what to feed him now I want you to understand that the Lord cannot really I mean the Lord truly sent you on an errand and then he leaves you empty it's impossible I mean it is extremely impossible like you I mean deconstructorization You are a spiritual, you should, you should, you should talk of midterm dancing.

"Welcome back to The Breakdown with me, NLW. It's a daily podcast on macro, Bitcoin, and the big picture power shifts remaking our world. What's going on, guys? It is Saturday, September 9th, and that means it's time for the weekly recap. Before we get into that, however, if you are enjoying The Breakdown, please go subscribe to it, give it a rating, give it a review, or if you want to dive deeper into the conversation, come join us on the Breakers Discord. You can find a link in the show notes or go to bit .ly slash breakdown pod. Hello friends, back with round two of the dialogue news analysis show that I've been experimenting with with Scott Melker on Fridays. Still doesn't really have a name. So for you guys, it is just the weekly recap, but on this show, we're digging deeper into a bunch of things that we've covered this week on The Breakdown, as well as some things that we haven't. We talk about Visa's stablecoin settlement program, the FASB changing the accounting rule, a slew of discussions around Genesis and DCG, including Genesis suing DCG, a little bit more ETF talk because it's 2023. So what else are we going to talk about? And then the recent CFTC decisions against a set of DeFi protocols. As always, this content is a little bit more opinionated and analysis versus just what happened. And I think that if I have to sum it up, what all of these stories sort of look like to me or where their common through line is, is entering this phase of final cleanup and preparation and transition from everything that was to everything that will be. You're seeing half of the stories that come out about new TradFi integrations and institutional programs and infrastructure being built, and then half the programs that are about legal battles and cleanup from what happened before. To the extent that there is a shift in feeling among those legal battles, more and more of others and availing themselves of the legal system to actually get better policy made. And so I think net net the trend is towards positivity and the next thing versus being dragged down by the last thing. That said, there is still a lot of cleanup left from last year. So let's dive in and see what you guys think. So it was pretty challenging this week to get down to a top five in my very humble opinion, so much so that I kind of like listed a few honorable mentions here. I am not even in the top five apparently as a jam or JP Morgan moves into deposit tokens for settlements. Stake was hacked by North Korea once again. How can we stop North Korea from hacking us? We have apparently the U .S. authority is an FBI looking into DCG and the IMF saying not to ban crypto. And those aren't even in our top five stories.

"What you know and what you're willing to say you know are probably two very different things. I'm in the tooth. You have a PR person with you. This is a PR tour. You've got rehearse for lines. Look, I get it. I don't. We're having a conversation. I reckon there is a difference between what you know and what you're willing to say, you know. But what I would say is any PR you have will not save your soul from what's happened to all these people. There are people I've received their emails. They're heartbreaking. I can't imagine how heartbreaking they are. And some of them, money is now in the grayscale trust. Their money was, as I understand the way that Gemini earn and genesis worked was that when you clicked and earned button until Gemini genesis loans that were uncovered as well. We can't just always flip this back to Gemini. I'm not. So you're trying to tell me that you think that somebody lent money from Gemini to genesis and genesis lent it into a grayscale product. I'm telling you large loans that were offered uncool relied went towards buying grayscale shares and then those grayscale grayscale shares were then used to post this collateral elsewhere. But how are you trying to say that somebody's Gemini earned deposit made its way into a grayscale product? Because those funds were stored with genesis and then genesis used those as part of their assets under management and they use those to loan out. So genesis had an active loan book, some deposits they took from Gemini, some deposits they took from other people, some credit the extended back to other people, some credit to other people. But somehow because they had an arrangement with Gemini and I don't know. Hundreds of other counterparties to loan and borrow from very complicated, I'm sure. Well, they did. They were the largest loan book in the crypto space. All these things that very complicated the tentacles go everywhere. Right. So genesis is intrinsically linked to grayscale. Intrinsically linked through being in the group through Barry, through the arrangements that were offered to people who offered large unclarified loans, those large and collateralized loans ended up in the grayscale trust, therefore the AUM you have and the interest being earned has come from that unethical behavior. Okay, well, I'll tell you again what I said earlier, which is that I am and we are at grayscale. Not aware of special arrangements that were given to customers that borrowed from genesis that we're using those borrows to invest in grayscale products. The terms that genesis offered to their counterparties was terms that were offered between genesis and that counterparty, grayscale is not in the lending business. We didn't give them special compensation for making those loans or anything of the sort.

"And so at what cost to investors. What do you mean? Well, you said he's amassed the most impressive, but at what cost. There's lots of people now, whether they're Gemini owned customers or genesis customers who have no access to their funds. DCG made investments in venture capital companies in venture backed companies, private companies, blockchain companies, crypto companies, and every continent, and I think it's over 200 companies over 40 40 countries around the world. Not using Gemini urn deposits using proceeds that Barry the businesses made being profitably run businesses and or from the very limited amount of capital that DCG raised when DCG formed as a company. That's only part of the story. Do you think it's ethical? What's happened to Gemini urn depositors and genesis depositors that they now have facing the fact they have no access to their funds. This is a range of people that could be massive, high net investors down to the little guy. Bear in mind, I've got geminis sponsor. I've read the emails of people who've lost their funds, can not access their funds. No, it's exceedingly disheartening. No, that's not the question I asked. Is it unethical? What's part of it is unethical? The genesis were offering uncorrelated high risk loans which were used, which have now propped up the AUM of grayscale. I mean, genesis putting extending loans that made their way into grayscale products is one of numerous ways that the genesis loan book was used. You're avoiding the question though. I'm saying I'm not at all. Was it ethical? What I'm trying to ask, what is unethical? I think it's unethical to offer loan. And it's a separate business. Right. I'm just asking you. I think that's what I'm saying. You're asking the wrong person. I didn't make the loans. The kids still didn't make the loans. But you're not guilty by association as a result of it. Well, you're part of DCG. You part of the group that allowed this to happen. So you are part of this. You may be part of grayscale, but grayscale's AUM is propped up by what I would say, unethical behavior, potentially fraud. Okay, we can argue about whether it's unethical fraud, but it's certainly unethical what happened because people now do not have access to their funds. The loans that were issued that uncover to high risk firms who didn't have the collateral and were therefore told if they could have these high, these highly valuable loans.

"If it's done on the condition that they can they have to use that to buy GBTC, which kind of becomes a money printer for them to then go out and take other loans. Somebody has to be incentive. There has to be incentive in there somewhere. So I don't believe the incentives with genesis, there's certainly a great incentive for grayscale because you sell more of the shares. So I'm trying to understand who is structuring those deals. Is it Barry and he's instructing people to do this? Because it has to be some kind of interrelationship group benefit and therefore interrelation intercompany discussion to make that happen. So the genesis business has and was an authorized participant for the grayscale products. Today, grayscale with its own broker dealer is the authorized participants for its products. It's one of the things we worked on over the last couple of years. And so like any authorized participant, there are of course going to make a fee when they create shares of a product. It's true of an ETF, and it's certainly true here.

"How they worked tirelessly for the investors and importantly how genesis and grayscale are separate companies. They're all I could do is tell Michael what I honestly think, which is that I think he knew what was going on between genesis and three AC and I questioned the ethics of the relationships. And because of this, it gets pretty heated towards the end. And therefore, I asked very specific questions with regards to whether Gemini earn and genesis customer funds ended up growing the GBTC AUM, which grayscale commands the massive fees for now, following the interview, grayscale's vice president of communications wrote to Danny, accusing me of being borderline and professional for my line of questioning. So firstly, I just fucking reject that. Secondly, they asked me to make a correction in my intro with regards to Gemini owned customers as she claimed that Gemini program started in January 2021 and no new GBT shares have been created since then. So she said it was categorically untrue that any Gemini earned customer funds could have ended up being used to acquire GBTC shares. Now listen, firstly, just an important point. Even if this is true, and if it is true, like I'm happy to put it out there, people should go and do that research. It doesn't hide the fact that when the shares went negative, that there is the potential that Gemini iron customer funds were used to essentially in some ways to defend the GBTC nav by honoring the genesis customer redemptions. I know it all sounds a bit complicated. But basically, at the time when the nav was going negative and these bad loans, we existed on the genesis books, Gemini owned customer funds were going into genesis and so those customers who were trying to activate redemptions if they weren't able to access their funds due to the bad loans on genesis books, Gemini customer funds could be used for that. Anyway, that's a complete side point. We didn't even get to address that. I replied to her and I said, look, I'm happy to address this in my intro. And so I just asked a follow-up question, absolutely fine, but can you let me know what percentage of GBTC AUM came from Bitcoin coming from genesis? To which he didn't answer. But then did confirm there was a month overlap between Gemini urn and GBTC share of being created. So we ended up emailing each other all day. We're going around circles. But basically wanted to get the intro correct. So I just asked her, could she categorically deny that in February 2021 that Gemini customer funds by virtue of being co mingled at genesis didn't end up being part of trades that acquire GBTC. And again, I asked her what percentage of GBTC came from Bitcoin trace from genesis. And look, we went round and round in circles, gen strange answers, or answers that weren't really answering my questions, talking about genesis being an authorized participant. And I think most of this was designed just to basically say that neither Michael, nor anyone at grayscale had any understanding or exposure to the loans being issued at genesis and what the collateral was. So listen, I'm just sharing this for transparency. I'll leave you to decide what you think about this.

"Genesis amar's camp. We're trying to be intentional. To a purposeful and mission driven lights because we are all on a mission and we are all here for a purpose. And you don't want your purpose to expire and ended up in the graveyard because you chose to play it. Say you chose to allow your dreams your guests your talent and your vision to end up in the graveyard because you were too afraid of what people were going to think what people were going to say and you were too afraid to just take that leap of fate or take that jump and pull the parachute while you're on your way down. So when you think about mission driven remember that in order for mission to be complete all levels and tat within each area and level must be completed before you see that allocation for example. Sometimes you're given a mission and tasks if we are working for somebody and they expect for us to complete it within a timely manner with no heirs. for example. I've spent fifteen years in corporate america. Twelve of those years were spent in the oil and gas and energy sector when i have projects and projects that had pressing deadlines. They expected me to be done with my project before the deadline with no errors because if there were errors than it would take more time to go back and correct those errors or my ex journals stakeholders as well internal stakeholders may look at me differently because they thought i had everything put together but i made maybe one little air and rock them so just think about it that way so we all have personal tasks as well as professional tasks whether you're working that nine to five job building up somebody else's empire legacy and dreams while you're working on your own exit strategy to.

"You know i. There was a period of time For two months. When i could use neither my hands nor my feet I had been trying to move my body with my hands. Because i couldn't walk and so i'll tell listeners. I have The syndrome called complex regional pain syndrome in its severe nerve pain disorder That comes about as a result of an injury and once you get the crp. Ps it's very difficult nearly impossible to ever get rid of it and it. It just causes severe pain. So i had severe pain in my feet and my hands and all i could do. Genesis was set by my window. I find my bedroom window. You said who wrote it down. You said who we were until grace found us and grace found me by my bedroom window when i had nothing all i could do was pray and that is literal. I could not feed myself. I could not dry my tears. I could not as myself. I could not go to the bathroom without help. God found me in silence in times when there was nothing else i could do with my time and all i could do was pray. And that's when when he came in to speak to me about what was going on during the second disability. Amazing and thank you so much darcy for just sharing that because i like how you said all you could do was pray because sometimes prayer requires us concentrating ourselves and getting a loan and being still so as we begin to pray and we allow those prayers to go up his blessings. So important to you. And how did that lead you to starting l. b. i yes. Thank you for that russian. It's important to me. Because i myself realized that i can only go so far alone and this was about. Two thousand seventeen was three years into my business into my production company I make photo and video for women owned business and brands. And i was like okay. I have the hard skills but the soft skills like. I don't really want to do it. Like i was taught by all these old white guys and you know. Thank you for the skills. Hard skills photo skills. I learned on film and adapting digital world. So that's like. I'm good with but like how i organize myself a team and how do business. I felt like i didn't really want to learn from the guys. And so i started asking women literally pulling the audience phoning friends and saying hey ladies like what do you think about this right And then fast. Forward the tape to twenty twenty. I'm like okay. I really need to lean into community more. I really wanna talk to these lady bosses that i had been fostering relationships for the last three or four years as i built my business but of course as we know during cove it in the in the beginning stages last winter we had to be inside like all inside. I really started thinking man. This is gonna be really dark and really sad. Unless i lead into community again just like i did three years ago. Four years ago while for many years was prior And as such. I started thinking about how can connect further outside of my immediate space are outside of my immediate rolodex with women in business into here how they also need community and they also need to lean into each other. An that's really vulnerable right. Not just for me but for other women who say hey you know what. I don't exactly know the answer to this. But i bet you do lady and so as such we developed the lbj backstage..

"And today we're gonna get some behind the scenes of how pod mattress raided founded. And he's gonna tell us all about what that journey looks like because before he became the founder of match. He did other stuff but sometimes people really don't get to hear about that unless you ask those questions. So welcome alex genesis. Thank you so much for having me. And also i love the way you do your introductions i just think it's it's beautifully done. It's not just like super scripted. Like you just kind of go for so. I really respect you as a podcast or honored to be here with you today. Thank you alex. So first of all before. We dive into combat armor to build up to pod. Max so what was your background liked than talk about your personal as well as your professional journey because that is so important because sometimes people see where you are but they don't understand the struggles that you have to go through in order to get to where you are now and roller coaster ride or some-. Sometimes i tell people it's a hell of a ride. Excuse my french because there's always gonna be highs and lows ups and downs but whenever you change your perspective your vantage point in etc you start to begin to see why you had to go through the mass in order to formulate your message as you mentioned already i i come from a corporate background. I believe you did as you do as well like so. i did. Fifteen years in a corporate job in the aerospace industry. i have to give this disclaimer. Every about aerospace people assume three things either. I was a skydiver in astronaut or fighter pilot. None of those things. As a matter of fact we worked at a manufacturing plant and i worked below the atmosphere so not even on spaceships or anything. So nothing fancy but it was a really cool fast. Paced job in the industry was really fun and so again i did fifteen years there and work my way up from a part time receiving clerk when i got started as like the recession happened in two thousand six thousand seven so i got a part time job because i could in aerospace was an industry that i realized had not been negatively affected at that point at least that sector of it. 'cause we were like private and stuff like that so i was like okay. It's not gonna hurt me So i'm gonna go get a job there like i said. Start as a part time receiving clerk and over fifteen years reach on way do a senior director at the company and it was something that i really enjoyed not every step of the way but i really enjoyed working in that organization. And that's kind of what led me into my entrepreneurial venture but obviously there are some some gaps to fill in genesis right. Yes so..

"Genesis. Chapter seven verse five. And noah did all the lord had commanded him to really simple significant verse. Much like genesis. Chapter six verse eight when the bible tells us that noah found favor in the eyes of the lord we prayed according to that now genesis chapter seven verse five has god commands noah to build a boat because a flood is coming in the bible. Says noah did all the lord had commanded him. I think there's relationship between justice. Six eight and justice seven. Five certainly god's favor a companies. Those who obey god's word that it's in obeying god's word that we experience the favor of god now we prayed according to genesis chapter six verse eight knowing like favour from god is only possible by the mercy of god. But even that think about it. God's mercy is expressed in his word coming to noah saying build a boat so that you and your family can be saved. God's word is an expression of god's mercy and it's in obeying god's word that no experiences salvation from god for him for his family blessing from god favour from god and so think about your life today the mercy of god toward you toward me in his word that we have in front of us. God has not left us alone in the dark about how to experience life to the full how to experience salvation had experience joy and peace strength and sustenance and satisfaction. That comes from god alone. It's found in abiding in him and his word in obeying his word in doing all that he commands us to do. Don't you want justice. Chapter seven verse five to be true of your life and david did all the lord had commanded him and insert. Your name did all the lord had commanded him or her. I may that be true if your life my life today and as we do that may we experienced the life. The is designed created intends us to live with him in obedience to him walking with him experiencing his favor through obedience to his word by his grace. So god we pray for genesis chapter seven verse five in our lives today. Help us we pray today tomorrow to do all that you commanded us to do. Help us to walk. Obedience to your word yod repr- repr- as you for your word. Praise you for giving it to us. We praise you for revelation. We have of who you are and how you've designed us to live to help us to read it study it memorize it on it and night. Help us to learn it and help us to do. It helps to obey and help us not just to read your word walk away forgetting what we've heard god help us. We pray to obey your worden in so doing to experience life and joy and peace all that you've designed for us according to your word
