There are 6 new members, new inductees into the Hall of Fame, including some very well known ones, perhaps some of the most notable, excluded players prior to Sundays election of the early baseball and golden days era committee of the Hall of Fame. And we wanted to talk about those inductees and some general Hall of Fame matters with someone who is an expert on those subjects. So we are welcoming in Adam duress. Hello Adam. And I believe that this is the first time that we have had you on this podcast somehow, clearly we have been remiss in not having you on to this point. So I'm glad that we are rectifying that oversight today and there couldn't be a better time to do it because you have devoted a lot of time to thinking and writing and talking about all of the Hall of Fame candidates who got in and a lot who didn't and just the general way of thinking through the Hall of Fame. But before we get to these ballots and these candidates and these long awaited inductions and continued snubs, maybe we could talk a little bit about you and how you got into this line of work and what it is exactly that you do, because you are, in addition to being a baseball historian and Hall of Famer scholar, the head of user experience for sports reference, neatly, the company that runs baseball references that means a lot to us and through a lot of our listeners and my user experience with baseball reference has been great. So you're doing a bang up job, I think, but what is it exactly that head of user experience at sport reference does? Well, thank you very much for those kind words. "A jonas stealing. How often do you use the reverse. Hyper machine what sets and reps should you do. I guess pretty broad. I think about it. 'cause some general questions we don't know anything because he hasn't say anything whether he's injured or he just wants to know just in general hall. I have not user verse hyper a longtime but a lotta again and a lot of it has to do with like. What's the goal. What are you trying to do. I used to utilize it a lot. Because i was dead lifting and squatting often and i was Just really smashing my spine together a lot with heavy weights and so i kinda needed that traction On the lower back it is something. I should probably start to To do again but a regular set reps game on the reverse hyper is you know Three to four sets anywhere between eight to fifteen wraps usually just because it takes a little bit too like set yourself up in there and it takes a little bit of time to get the way to correct and all those things Whenever something is like that whenever something has a larger setup. I usually like to do more sets of it. So like five or six sets. would be pretty common for me and some are between eight fifteen reps. I think we should maybe want that. I want you to expand upon. Since you've done more reverse hyper than i have through the years. I think that's a movement that you can do pretty frequently like i'd say e even if you only did lower body twice a week that you can do the reverse high promise on an upper day so if you did that three times a week. I think it's actually pretty beneficial. But when people do the reverse hyper. How important is it to control these. Centric swing down. Because i see a lot of people do reverse hyper 's and they do it and then they're dithers let it come down right. Shouldn't you be controlling that aspect of the movement of it absolutely. Yeah you control it and you'll actually feel your back. Open up a lot more as a lot. More beneficial to the lower back Letting it swing and move around like crazy You know it does put you through a range of motion But it's not nearly having the same effect and benefit you wanna actually flex your gluts and flex your button hamstrings as you contracting kind of upward and then you want to resist against that on the way down and you'll feel feel really good your your lower back will kind of halfway her but halfway feel good and you'll feel your spine kind of opening up and to me. It was always a really good feeling. And then the last thing you wanna make sure that you do as specifically with reverse hyper is when your feet start to go under the machine you wanna make sure your feet go under you and they almost go in line with where your chest is. You sometimes have to kind of almost push your feet a little bit forward because you wanna get a lottery emotion From that lower back and you can kind of intentionally round arch and round arch as you're going through the movement but insieme hit the nail on the head. You really want to try to control those movements. And so you don't need to load the thing up with all kinds of crazy weights. Keep the weights modest control him and Do the repetitions correctly. Yeah always like had that it was almost like a cable machine not awaited machine. If something was pulling my legs forward and i had to fight to go back i would swing way less than probably get more benefit from it. I don't know that's just me kind of could like frankenstein. Some yeah they make a lot of different versions of holidays. But would she could do. Is you could You know rather than like having your legs swing too much. In accordance to how much you're back can move. You can simply pause at the bottom of every single one of them and come comeback up and that would work very similar to the way that you're talking about the issue is like you end up with like hardly any weight on there. I mean go and try to reverse hyper with no wait on the Like with zero. Wait on the machine and just using whatever the the thing ways whatever the thing that holds the weight and it is really really challenging. Really difficult especially after you get through a couple rupture like what this is total bullshit. It's like way harder than i thought. Even putting like a twenty five on there or something like that could be really challenging his. Watch your shins on the way back. A b bend your knees. Yeah let's see here are boy nathan tustin. Perhaps over a stolen sword withdrew getting back at him by either destroying stealing his motorcycle. And so it's going to be a battle over possessions winner. Take all or something like that at summer slam or whatever it ends up being so we have that general. Obviously got you know. It seemed like he was getting pushed. Because of a variety of things one he has sort of a body type and style of triple h at his worst. And i think aaa sort of Was drawn to that Genuinely like and then also the india connection obviously they tried hard but that But there's to me there just sort of a negative charisma about him Kind of I don't want to pay to see that guy. He's not good enough in the ring and his charisma. And just promos were blah. He seemed like the the c. Team guy that would be like you reminded me of. Al perez world-class chapter pressing kind of late eighties. When world class didn't have the big stars anymore and it was like kevin von erich canal perez alvarez. Look the part managed by gary hart but once he talked. You're like okay. It's kind of boring but hopefully it'll be good in the ring and then the bell rang and you'd watch him wrestle and like after eight minutes it felt like forty. And you're like. Oh god i don't wanna pay to see this guy. And he was most comparable to general hall I thought last night he was better both as a promo and as a character and in the ring. So i want to give him a chance. You know don't want to walk down my opinion that he should be caught but he needed to improve. And i need to see more evidence that he has and i still don't think the ceiling is super high What did you feel about what they did. Last night with him and and matching him against drew already before gender really does much to show. He deserves to be against the top top guy in a few other than his size and years ago. Because he's going to be feuding trying to get back a sword that i don't know that people are going to vicariously care about or even like sympathize withdrew over being worked up about because it's a tough position. How does you know drew. I mean what toned us drew take when he shows anger about a possession being stolen from him and as i talked about on the weekend the postal last night. Why why does he even have to talk about it. Can't he just can't management file a police report in threaten to fire gender return. The sword like dumb. I mean nobody watching this thinks in that realm that of the fictional universe w creates that there isn't a means to go about getting something that was blatantly stolen on live television from somebody. You shouldn't have to fight for beg for it or lament its loss. It should just be given back or that wrestler who stole it should be fired like it so it's just a it's just a loser. Storyline to begin with when you have a stolen item and nobody does anything that just put. Give it back to the person who it belongs to. It's a it's just you have to really dumb down your wrestling viewing iq to get invested in this. And then you ask the baby-faced invest in it and it gets. It's worse for them because like everyone's going on a police report why doesn't management. Why don't you oughta management say you know you don't wanna be the tattletale but like hey. He stole something. That's valuable in means something to me. Can you like not pay 'em next month until he returns it like there's a lot of solutions other than lamenting it and so it's just a bad storyline when they go this route and it's unfortunate for drew that that that.

He's going to have some other story. They're going to make him do another story the week after that. This is the blessing and the curse of being able successfully. You do what they want you to do. And they give you some dumb script if they give you a dumb script and you and you make it work. You're done for buddy you're gonna get a stupid script every week after that. Then he faced jinder mahal and jenner mahal maryland. Jinder mahal was champion I mean he was. He was the right in the ring. My standards are much lower. Nowadays he was all right in the ring back then but he wasn't like all that great and then he was gone for like a year and a half or something like that. He's just now come back. It's like a second match since he was gone for a year and a half so with think that like guys got have ring rust or somethin' and granted. He's in their with drew mcintyre. But this match was so much better than i expected. They went ten minutes and then veer and shankly ran in for the disqualification shanke after all that time after ten minutes and then then gender steals his sword so this feud must continue. Drew mcintyre is feuding with jenner mahal over his sword. If i told you we were done. The prediction show and drew mcintyre champion and the king of raw. If we'd did on the prediction shown. But mcintyre is favorite right now this stipulation that he can't challenge lashley. I think it's wwe. I mean you can't interfere. And helena sell match what they do every time so i'm sure the writers are working overtime coming up with ways to get around their own stipulation. It's what they do so not even taking that seriously I mean it could be. He's gonna win it.
