Crash-warning device might not have saved Bryant helicopter

"New information in the Kobe Bryant crash investigation yesterday the NTSB said his helicopter nearly cleared the hill that it hit by twenty or thirty feet experts we spoke to say the helicopter was going so fast in a downward trajectory it essentially entered a point of no escape in this case the helicopter was in such an extreme position just six hundred feet above the ground diving at the ground four thousand feet per minute that that terrain warning system probably would not have been any help the pilot just didn't have a chance to recover a diving deeper the menu pilots are air one gives us an interesting perspective on the helicopter crash pilot Robert Altman tells me he's flown in the fog before the number one hazard to hold up he says they keep their one grounded pretty regularly for low clouds and fog it really is it's oriented in a in a situation like that from what he seen about the Bryant helicopter crash all this is it seems the pilot was put on a long air hold then they changed as routing a few times what will you probably happen to me is that you just flew into six but you know you the it happens he says it looks like a fairly common accident with some fairly uncommon passengers gene Wexler news ninety six point five W.

We've got bad delays on, I four specifically right at champions, gate and by lake Buena Vista Disney area. We've got some heavy rain that's been sitting over I four there, but it looks like it might be starting to let up in areas other than champions gate where it's still raining pretty hard. Right. It's twelve forty joining me live right now is dorrie Shammar from our Washington, DC bureau and door. We've got the president kicking off his reelection campaign rally tomorrow in Orlando. He's also been in the news a lot yesterday. And today he had that special with ABC. News. Honestly, I didn't get a chance to watch much of it. Besides some clips on Twitter. I'm wondering from you. What some of the highlights were before we get into the Orlando rally. Yeah. I mean they're kind of tied together. He talked a lot about what his priorities in his messaging would be for his reelection campaign which reportedly he's taken very little interest in campaign. Aides reportedly in a story in the New York Times last week say they they're having a really hard time getting the president to focus on reelection that he's not interested in changing the messaging from what worked in two thousand sixteen and you know it's still very, very early. So in that ABC interview he did say that healthcare would be a top priority for his reelection saying that in the next coming months, he will release a major plan to overhaul ObamaCare, and it will be much less expensive. He says, now, of course in two thousand seventeen we watched as House Republicans, Senate Republicans were unable to repeal ObamaCare will see whether or not. That message still resonates after his first term Senator Rick, Scott says the president should be talking about immigration, and the border crisis has the president dropped any hints about that. You know, usually he says, I've got a big announcement coming or I'm going to announce something huge at the rally. Is there anything like that coming from the White House? We've got nothing. This is this is a campaign rally. It's to kick off officially his twenty twenty reelection. So the White House refers you to campaign aides, we've so far got nothing officially from the campaign. The president did tweet this morning, though, quote big rally tomorrow night in Orlando. Looks to be setting records. We're building large movie screens outside to take care of everybody over one hundred thousand requests, our country's doing great far beyond what the haters in losers thought possible, and it will only get better. We do have an indication as usual that the president will try to focus on immigration the crisis at the southern border. And of course, blamed Democrats for lack of action that he's been able to take. Take so far in his presidency. Okay. And then door you're going to be joining Joe. I presume on Orlando's morning news Wednesday after the rally, and I'm sure you too will have a lot to talk about then correct? Yes. Of course. Okay. All right. Well dory. John dory. Chamoun. No, not for a Florida man story governor onto Santa's signs the new law arming teachers love, but it's teachers who. Alan tier. So I want to stress that teachers have to volunteer, and they can only volunteer to carry in the classroom if their school districts decide to participate. This is something that if a school district once then they're allowed to nobody's forcing them to do anything. So this this law expands the state's existing school guardian program, and it allows the teacher to volunteer to undergo one hundred forty four hours of training to carry in class that is a massive amount of training. I don't want people to think that somehow it's a soft target. I want people to think, you know, what I'm not messing with the schools in Florida because I know I'm going to face some serious pushback. If I do the governor also makes the point that we've sent some people to Afghanistan to fight in that war who have had less than one hundred forty four hours of firearms training. So as far as our school districts in central Florida, go orange and seminal out. They've decided that they are not going to participate in the program. It drives through an entire species of spent half thunders modifications. Scientists have always tried to prevent engineered organisms from spreading their modified genes. They created this new kind of modified organisms using the powerful, gene editing technique called crisper, which is like a molecular Caesar which can cut at a specific site in the DNA and transform the female mosquitoes into mutants have female half mail their mouths are male. So they can't fight and spread malaria, the reproductive organs are deformed. So they can't. Lay eggs the females become a bit more like hermaphrodite. Yes. The kind of the idea would be just someday release these mosquitoes in Africa to breed with and decimate the mosquitoes that spread malaria. This really will be a breakthrough experiment because we were then understand what we could expect from feared release the wide. It's a bit of historic moment. Malaria sickens more than two hundred million people each year and kills more than four hundred thousand so wiping out the main mosquito that spreads malaria could help finally a radical the disease.
