"That's where you see when you actually read the papers as opposed to talk about the papers uh-huh so essentially a set of beliefs forced the government to continue to sacrifice thousands of men in in order to get the enemy to the table. Maybe and dixon negotiated for another four years so before he concluded the deal you and how many people died in that period as many as died in all the years before you know the total i think is something like fifty eight. Thousand thousand deaths and god knows how many lives ruined and look. I wish i had turned against the war much sooner and i regret it. You have no idea no idea <hes> but eventually i did and then i spent several years of my life fighting against the nixon policy and for the early end of the war but it was too late so how did you feel back in nineteen seventy one when you discover at the new york times was about to publish the pentagon papers. That's a very good question because to be perfectly frank. Has i think i've been throughout this interview. My first instinct was that if they just hit the papers people would think this was the definitive history of the war which they were not and that people would think it was all about lying rather than beliefs and look because we never learned that darn lesson about believing away into these wars we went into afghanistan and we went into iraq and do you think that's why it's important to clarify or a five what the real lesson of the pentagon papers is absolutely you know we get involved in these wars and we don't know a damn thing about those countries the culture history the politics people on top and even down below and my heavens these are not was like world war two and world war one. We have italians fighting battalions these awards that depend on knowledge of who the people are what the the culture is like and we jumped into them without knowing. That's the damned essential message of the pentagon papers last. Thank you very much. You're very welcome. It's so hard for people to swallow this because of all these years of earing yeah the story again. I don't deny the lies. I just want him to understand what the main points really were. "Here's gelb. Is that killed show? CBS sports radio coming up in fifteen minutes at the top of the hour. Alabama has their spring game later today. We'll check in with these star quarterback of the Alabama crimson tide to tongue. Vilo will join us very excited to welcome to Zack killed show on CBS sports radio. It is one of my most favorite times of the year in the sports calendar. And no, it's not that spring games are happening this weekend. It's the Stanley Cup playoffs. And we'll run through the match ups right now. The predators. And the stars Dallas up one nothing you have Saint Louis and the Winnipeg Jets Saint Louis is up to Calgary and Colorado Calgary up one nil San Jose in Las Vegas. The nights tied it up a last night. One a piece Tampa Bay. Down to go to Columbus. Toronto. Nothing over Boston. The defending Stanley Cup champions in the Washington Capitals up ones that over the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York counters led by superfan. Peter schwartz. They're up to nothing over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Here's what stands out to me. So far. Dow's is up one nothing as Nashville. One the central one hundred points this year and Dallas could season at ninety three points that stands out to me. How about what a peg? On their home ice dropping the first two games. What a job by chief Craig berbie who did take over his head coach of the blues. Charts nights, very excited to see that series unfold. Enjoy that one a lot how about Columbus. What a job by torty in. John Tortorella the Tampa Bay Lightning this past year a hundred and twenty eight regular season points. Sixty two wins sixteen losses and four overtime losses on the season. That's sixty to win. Mark tied them for most wins in an NHL regular season history. Tampa come close in recent years, they beat the Rangers lost the Stanley Cup. Final. It's been a group that has been close over the years, but they haven't been able to deliver the championship. As they did one in two thousand and four if memory serves me, right? But with Tampa they get close yet. Oh, so far. Now, it is important to note that last year. Columbus was up to on the Washington Capitals. They did not. Obviously beat the Washington Capitals. The capitals went on to win the Stanley Cup. Final. So can tort C N Columbus find a way to get the victory. Two more times. Get two more victories up against Tampa Bay. And I would love to check him in Michigan right now. The very exciting play by play voice for the Tampa Bay Lightning. I wanted out. He's doing right about now who would've ever thought. And this is the Stanley Cup playoffs. I remember one year. So the flyers got the Stanley Cup playoffs. It was a seven eight Eastern Conference final. It was Montreal against the flyers seven eight matchup. And we've seen before the king's Stanley Cup of eight seat. It's not crazy. It's crazy. But we've seen it before if Columbus is able to do this this year, though, this would be as crazy as it gets because not only is it an eight beating a one, but it's an eight beating a one when. Tampa had one hundred twenty eight points in sixty two wins. It'd be like when the warriors had record breaking season a few years ago when they lost to the Cavaliers and the final empty warriors lost in the first round of the NBA finals, Egypt for the first one ploughs that would be the equivalents. Boston does bounce back after blowing game on Trump wins one nothing and then the penguin series this team they want to gain their way and they wanna game playing the penguins game as well. And the impressive part with the islanders penguins game is last night. I was watching this one. The were dominating. But they couldn't get anything to go. There was a five on three in the game. Islanders did not get a go. I texted a buddy of mine who's a huge fan. And I said, you know, what's happening? You don't convert an five on three Pittsburgh's in a find a way to get a goal. Very quickly. Pittsburgh gets the goal. The islanders answer back though. And knowledge they answer back as the goal was scored a fight breaks out a brawl on the ice did breakout. Somehow Pittsburgh ended up in the power play. When there is one island or player and three penguins players were on top of the islander nuts thing. You know? I look up by go. How the heck did Pittsburgh end up on the power play? They did though did it matter though on their scored two more goals from that three unanswered. They win the game three one. So Pittsburgh one to Monroe. Lost last year to the caps. What's gonna happen? This year.

"You could give me a follow shoot me. A tweet on the good ole cesspool of Twitter at Zach Gelb. Let's go people followed up tweet me up at Zach Gelb. That's Z A C H G E L be okay. We'll get back into reset with Colin Kaepernick and Eric read right now and the NFL settlement. It was the biggest story yesterday in sports, and it was one you weren't expecting. I don't think anyone had that on their radar. The story with Colin Kaepernick going into yesterday. Was that it was. There was a report that he wanted twenty million dollars to play in the alliance of American football for the af there would be a no brainer to try to get a cap predict to try to get a T Bo and pay him whatever you want. But I wonder how truthful that report was or if it was leaked by someone with an NFL driven agenda to try to make Colin Kaepernick, look like he sold out in the situation was only looking for the money here with the settlement with the NFL knowing that it was coming. And then also at the A F report that's something to keep in mind in store in the back of the brain. But let's attack it with capper, Nick and read them, we'll get into the NFL. So from the side of capitol and read the public Looks very good for them in this case by settling because it makes the NFL look as if they were trying to hide something they were trying to not have something come onto the scene that could have been very damaging whether it was certain emails from league executive certain emails from owners and so on and so on. At the NFL thought they were one hundred percent innocent. Or if they didn't think there was anything damaging that could potentially come from this. Why would you settle? So that's a thought that is out there. Now, if you want to take it from capper, Nick and read why would they settle if they had such evidence that was embarrassing could be so damaging to the NFL. And here's my answer to that. They could have had certain evidence that could have been presented that would have made the NFL look bad. And would make people say, oh, maybe there was some collusion going on. But it may not have won them this case. So yes, you could have exposed the NFL. You could have displayed things that made the NFL not look good. But you still may not have won a single dollar. And people have to remember capper, Nick and read settling here. There's not take away from their cause. What they were having here in this litigious situation there point in this case was especially for capper, Nick because reading eventually got a job. And an extension as we know. But for capper, Nick the point was this. Because I took this stance. Because I was not afraid to share my opinion it prevented him from getting hired and the National Football League, which prevented him from getting X amount of million dollars. Whatever he thought it was. So in this case, there was a number that he said all right it matches up. What I think I would have received if I never got benched or if I had never stopped playing in the National Football League. And if I was given an opportunity whether it was in the now, whether it was in future contract earnings now, there's a place that debate. If you think Colin Kaepernick is a great quarterback. That's not what this should be done. And this reaction should be from what it was the announcement today. But I do wonder what's next for Colin Kaepernick? And it's going to be very intriguing to see what he does again island. What he does in the future? I don't believe they'll play in the NFL ever again. And I think it's now bigger than being a football player because he took a stance on something. Played a role and not getting employed again, whether you think he's a good quarterback or not like I said, that's a different debate. But because of this teams thought it was too big a distraction to continue to employ him. Which? You have someone else in the National Football League this past year and another years have accidents woman of violence, and they get another shot every monk got another shot. Mary quickly. But that was a distraction that another NFL team dot they can get by this one. You can't get by this which I think is absolutely ridiculous. But. The cabinet did some good a lot of good. I think he did more good than bad. Now, there are some things you didn't go bad at the right way. The pickup socks the Castro shirt. And I can understand why people think that's unforgivable and all forms of protests are not popular yet to do something that's going to spark the interest of a lot of people and make some people feel uncomfortable. But the message that capper Nick read Jenkins. And a lot of other NFL players were fighting for is important. And their social injustices that do occur in America. And. It was right to portray all copses pigs because there's a lot of great cops in America. And we need great cops. We don't need the bad ones though. So I wonder what's next for Colin Kaepernick, I do but overall for capital read. I think the public perception here is going to be that they won and the NFL was afraid because there was some other evidence that was going to fall now from the NFL they also could win here too as well. You can have a win win here. Because even though the public perception probably lands, the favor of capper, Nick and read for the NFL you finally get to move on from this with Don disclosures. And all that. And we'll see what information leaks out, and there's some things we'll never know about the settlement. And I wish we could have interview we can find out what the details weren't all that. But the NFL is going to keep this, very private and very secretive. But for the NFL you finally and something that was going away. This was the last thing to fall that you needed to to make it go away. And now we're fully moves on unless if the president decides to comment on it. Coming up in about like, four hours or something like that. Because this was going away at one time too in the NFL and the president brought it up with this SOB comments. Then. Ignited some fuels here in this situation. But for the NFL this gets the start to go away you get to move on. It's peanuts probably end up in the large large picture of things what they end up having to pay out. And you avoid getting embarrassed. If there was some things that could damage owners or executives in the National Football League. One other thing though, that I thought about this though, when this did come out and people are labeling capper, Nick and Rita salads, which I don't think is fair. But there was a time, and I made this point. And maybe I should have explained better on Twitter. I made it very vague as it was right in the moment, but the minute when this occurred I said, well, didn't evergreen have a problem with what Malcolm jenkinson and called himself up. I'm gonna have meant by that. I wasn't calling a sell out. And and people thought I was on Twitter, which he can't win the argument on Twitter, especially when you have such a such a topic like this, which has so many different opinions of people only want to. Think what they believe is the only right way. But my only point with this. And I think it's an important one to bring up there was a game in Philadelphia this year. Eagles Panthers Jacobs Ariba both on the field. They both believe and have great intentions, but they went about things different ways. Read was so annoyed. But now come Jenkins that he agreed to the players coalition. And he thought that he shouldn't have because it didn't guarantee cabinet coming back to the league, which I don't know how you guarantee that. But Reed got in a confrontation with Jenkins before the game. Now is all class afterwards. Speak anything poorly about Eric read. But then after the game Eric Reid called, Malcolm, Jenkins Acela, and he called them a sell out for agreeing with the NFL and the player's coalition agreement. I know it's different. But in this case, evergreen did agree to something. Where he could have exposed the NFL further. It doesn't make him a sell out. He had every right to settle just as Malcolm Jenkins had every right to agree to the players coalition. So I just thought it was super critical a little bit for read to call Jenkins a sell out and then read to reach an agreement. And. You have that agreement be be met by by reading with the NFL. So I just thought that was an interesting dynamic to this. Now, my calling Rita Salamat calling Kaepernick assault it made sense to settle because once again. You get something guaranteed financially were you? Yes. Could have embarrassed the NFL, but it was not one hundred percent clear that you were going to win. So overall, I think publicly cabinet can read. Bubi perceived a whole lot better than the NFL, and it will make it look like the NFL was afraid of something. But for the NFL this is not a loss for them. One hundred percent because they get this thing to go away, and you can move on from it. Bottom line. I want to see a lot of good come from this. I hope capita can re continue their causes their charities and their fight and many other players that did. Think that things need to change. They continue to fight to get the change and.

"Sports radio. It's Gelb show. When you look back at that play. And we all know how important it was. But then there was still a lot of football left with people forget, and Nick was awesome in that game. But Brandon Graham made that big strip sack on Tom Brady to me which was the biggest play of the game. When that game was over though, take me through what you recall about the celebration on the field. And then also when you got back to Philly for the parade because I was doing radio in Philadelphia right after the. The game. And it was like something I've never seen before. Yeah. Man. Chaos. You know, you're losing your mind. You see the confetti? See everybody rushing the field. I mean, you see a blurred is just so much stuff happening at once. And this is a celebration. Jeffrey Loria eagles organization, they did it the right way so much fun. So many great memories from that. And then getting on the plane and barely sleeping getting on the plane. And then when you get to touch ground all the eagles fans at the airport behind the fence, and it's going nuts popping in the bus and literally from therefore to the facility just thousands and thousands of people outside their cars, and they kind of made like a tunnel for us to get to the facility, and I mean, one of my favorite parts. Probably my most favorite part is is the parade. A couple of days later, just the amount of people that showed up for that. And this is a special scene Reno the city downtown city hall right there. Two thousand and you can't see the ground. All you see is people all over the place. I was just unbelievable chasing Kelsey gets up to the podium the rest assist or your favorite line from the Jason Kelsey. I don't even.

"So basically, we're relaxed and we're by ourselves. Well. That's you can see why. I naturally have the sense that meditation is it's training you to get training or whatever it's that's what we know. And you read the sages, and they're all saying, you know, you wanna have the breakthrough idea meditate. I I love though, I mean, I've been on meditation retreats where I'm just as soon NAMI of ideas, and then I've gotten home and look at my notebooks. And there were all our obliges. So it's not a guarantee it's just an interesting. I mean, you think you'll get a lot of stuff that comes up like once you once the chattering minds, those down creativity. There's more room for creativity. It's just no, you don't know. You might not get the meal you ordered. Well, that's what makes it creative. Is you won't get the meal. You often you'll come up with a whole new recipe and new flavors. Yes. Sometimes terrible recipe's. Sometimes it may be however. Like whoever came up with your duck in. Are you at that? But when you when you in your own process. You get these ideas, and they seem like crazy ideas. But when we read about Einstein's experience of his own ideas, or Leonardo's experiences of his ideas are Edison, you go back and find a great mind all give you the same advice. So I like I like this like every meditation Trish in says start by lying around the vertical axis, probably something to it. That's what they're telling you time China India every Kaba lists. Nobody says start by slumping or tightening jar something it's it's tend to be universal discovery. Well, guess what? She tells his students wherever you go carry a little notebook with you. And when something occurs to you, write it down and don't worry about whether it makes sense or not Edison gives pretty much the same instruction to the people who work in his laboratory and. Bekaert full of premature organization. So in other you look at seemingly inter not connected, crummy, ideas, you've judged them, and you've dismiss them. And then you miss the potential of what may emerge as you play with them and let them flow together. Now, they still may ultimately not be a breakthrough idea. You probably have to come up with a thousand ideas to get a real breakthrough idea. But that one idea is a product of the other nine hundred and ninety nine seemingly silly or irrelevant ideas. So the ability to to ride that uncertainty to become comfortable with the big you ity of not knowing again, meditation is training, your whole being to be more receptive to that state. My we're an tennis, but we filled a static and we're not getting good reception geniuses have cleared out the static and they're getting good reception. One way. I think about meditation is, okay, let's tune the Antenne. I love that. I feel like there are a million other things we could talk to you about. But we're pretty much out of time. Let me finish by doing what I liked to the opportunity to give every which is I call it the plug zone. Plug everything you've ever done. Give me all the books that you want people to know about working, we find you and social media the internet's all that so much. Thank you. It's Michael Gelb dot com. G E L LB look for how to think like Leonardo Davinci seven steps genius every day. That's my best known book. My first book body learning and introduction to the Alexander technique. And my most recent book is called the art of connection seven relationship building skills, every leader needs now. Well, now, I feel like I'd be remiss if I didn't we didn't talk. I didn't even know about it. Can you give me can you? Give me the the headline take on the takeaway of that one is. So I'm teaching people how to think like Leonardo innovate like, Edison creativity. "Results your experience been like would love to hear your thoughts on that. Thank you. Thanks tatyana. I've wrestled with this mightily. But the answer I don't think I don't think the answers that complicated. First of all you can plan. I mean, any planning you're doing will will take place in the present moment. And so you can be as mindful and aware as possible when you're. Making your plans, obviously, you're going to have to start thinking about the future and learning from the past in that process, but you can continually touch in from basic blocking and tackling meditation standpoint as you're doing that or anything you could always touch back into the present moment to be a little meditation teacher, either by being in touch with your body being in touch with what you're seeing hearing any number of basic meditation techniques that we all know, or we I hope we all know that you can use to make sure you're kind of giving right now a little bit of a kiss while you're doing the planning the other thing about planning is. I think it's. Yeah. You have to do it. I I don't think having a meditation practice means that you should be perpetually present. I mean, I be great. If you could that's that's not having to me. So the way I approach it as a. Yeah. I mean, there's a certain amount of planning and plotting and stress and walking around pacing and thinking about the angles, and how things are going gonna play out, and blah, blah, blah that that you have to do in order to have a. A healthy career. And I would not want to discourage you from doing any of that. What what I find the old Joseph Goldstein expression that he mentioned to me when I first met him on retreat back in two thousand ten that has been just incredibly helpful in this process is on the eighty seventh time that you're running through all the scenarios in your head. Maybe ask yourself. The question is this useful? And that little mantra is this useful. Just. A giving yourself permission to do the plotting and planning you need to do to have a healthy successful career. But then throwing in that little mantra of is this useful. When you notice yourself going down the rabbit hole. I in my experience really helps me walk that line between doing what I need to do in order to, you know, survive and stay afloat and in my case of pretty cutthroat career and also not make myself miserable. And and everybody else around me miserable. If finally you mentioned non attachment to results. You know, I wrote about this in my first book. I it's easier said than done, but I certainly attempt to do it to the best of my ability, which is just to recognize that we live in a universe where most things are out of our control. So we can do a bunch of work whatever it is. We're working on. We can think about our career and try to you know, network and go to the right school and get the right internships. Whatever it is. But you you you can't control all the outcomes. That's just that's just the deal so non attachment to results is the only sane way to proceed again easier said than done I wish I did it more than I do. But as a north star to pretty healthy one. So great question Tatyana. I wish you the best of luck. And I hope the foregoing has been to call out or to echo Joseph's phrase. I hope the foregoing has been useful. All right. Let's get to Michael Gelb. Our guest this week. Here's just a couple of lines from his. Bio he is the world's leading authority on application of genius thinking too, personal and organizational development. He's also.

"Five five two one two four CBS eight five five two onto forty two twenty seven you give me a follow on Instagram Twitter. Whatever you want at Zach Gelb, that's Z A C H G L B. And if you're like Willie 'em he tweets the shell. He's got a little remote broadcasts idea for us. Yourselfer? What are the odds of I went to management tomorrow morning before? I even give you the idea and say we want to put the Saturday morning overnight shell on a remote location. Next weekend. What do you think management would say to be James Christopher? They would say no chance, and then they would say is your producer here. And they'd be like who is that guy. What happens to pay to get the trip, you know, done then you might have a better chance of us going. Okay. But you know, in this industry, if it costs money, I mean, that's that's where we have to draw the line. Yeah. Yes management. Yeah. Thanks the management. Thanks management. So I went to management. Do you think I would be saying, thanks management? You think that'd be upset with their response. I really feel like he never come out of a meeting saying, thanks to management around here. Just go. Yes. Yes, go. Yes. Yes. I understand. Yes. We will improve. We will be better time sheet was wrong again. Yes. I will. Correct. It for you. Yes. Timesheets I'll have to do that. No. You don't have to do. Your star starts enough to do that wouldn't wanna go that way stars don't to do that. Willie goes temple comes the college park next Saturday, twelve noon, can you make it do remote from the DMV once again, and like we have to get this together in a week to there's no notion and really wants us to be up at the crack on basically is no way. I think Mark chernoff look at me, and he would say. Do you wanna go to temple narrowly, college, you gotta tablet graduated college a million years ago, you got a real job. Now, why do you even want to go back? I don't understand. No, nobody cares about the American athletic conference shocked. They knew it was the athletic American conference respectful to the five people. Do Mike arrests go and. Chuck, you're going to say you're going gonna say don't appeared disrespectful to Mr. Turner. You was shocked that I knew it was the American. This is actually usually our chernoff listen to our program because he gets up every day and starts to run at this hour, even on the dozens. Yeah, he does guys crazy. And he sent me a nice little review two shows ago. He never sleeps. That's one of the first times ever got a positive review for management where there was nothing negative. Usually whenever usually whenever you get something for management if it's a review they'll give you three or four positive comments that you get two or three negative comments the last review, nothing negative. Thanks management. I was very happy. Extremely happy. So let's get to it. We got some college picks. We will not be picking temple in buffalo. Even I'll be hoping my temple. Owls could find a way to get victory this weekend because last week and then lost FCS Villanova. I the last bench of temple on this program. We though I do love my alma mater t for temple you. Let's get to the college picks. We'll do. So right now music plays. At least Ben's not here this weekend. It is some cheesy voice over that was just a terrible job him last weekend. You don't have to compound the mistake. Just move on from it. Well, one thing we can't move on from take accountability. I don't know. What that is when I'm right? I'm all for telling you, I'm right? And when I'm wrong, I'm all for saying I was wrong because when you make these predictions something you will realize as you make a lot of wrong predictions and few correct predictions last week, the big guy myself, Owen, three Washington. Bad job by them. I picked them. Terrible job my part for picking Michigan. And then the other game that we picked what was the other game that we picked. What was the last game that we picked we all were on it to LSU Miami and an orangutan's join us in about thirty five minutes. We're all we all pick Miami. Now, if you listen, I gave you actually good advice because I said any games that are set Bal Horowitz, saying Gelb agree on his own speaking, the third person, you go the other way. So if you listen to the latter part of that advice, you would be in good shape. But if you want with what we actually picked. Yeah. Not so boy, no Horowitz and GRA Sappho or one to Gelb Owen. Three now pinch hitting and the role of Ben Horowitz this week. Is the five foot six Brian Jack McCain, so you will be placing the bets on our show for Ben Horowitz now. Then may not like yes, it already is. You could get a few brownie points. If you do. Well, however, if you do a terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible.

Jim Harbaugh wants to expand College Football Playoff to 16 teams

"Zet Galvin framing Lawrence all week. Having, a whole lot of fun Chris Thomas. And the Lord of the board I Feldman on the other side of the glass, eight five five two one two four, CBS, eight, five, five two. One two forty two twenty seven you could also give me a follow on the. Good cesspool of Twitter at Zach Gelb z. a. c. h. g. e. l. b. you could send me, a tweet and if your tweets good enough and the remaining, fifty something minutes that we have we. Will read it on the air we're talking college football and we'll get to. Some NFL and just a, bit but with the college football it was a big, ten media day the other day, and Mr. Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh, was, talking about the possibility of playoff expansion. In the college football world and I can understand why he would want to expand, it because he wants to get a seat at, the, table because. In the current four team format yeah he could get a seat but his teams. Just not usually good enough to be one of those four teams so there's probably some motivation there if, you expand to eight one of those years you go to, three losses maybe you could find a. Way to squeeze in at number eight but I also think him saying it. Is also good for the, game too because he's an influential coaches no doubt about it And people, go to Jim Harbaugh to, here is opinion however I'm bored for part of what he. Said And what he actually said, was expanded to eight and that eventually sixteen I don't wanna see it, at sixteen I do believe they need to expand. The college football playoff but, I think eight is. The perfect number eights, a really good number sixteen it's to water down it's too many games and also there's always concern with football with injuries, and the lethal game that football is even though we love football me watch college football on Saturdays and then the NFL on Sundays at how much we do love football If you're gonna talk about player safety Would it make a whole lot of? Sense? To go from four to. Sixteen what I don't think it would I think it'd be hypocritical now you could go to eight and eight. Is not that many more extra games but the reason I go to eight and harbor was also talking about. A possibly eliminating the. Conference championship games I'm not, doing that if you go to sixteen you gotta give her to the. Conference championship games because they're basically, irrelevant but if you go to eight there's still a way where you. Can make them relevant and means something and I went to the drawing board and I came up with a theory and I came up with the formula of and it's not this. Elaborate formula don't call me. Einstein ever it's a pretty, simple formula think anyone could do it but the formula that I did come up with was you make it eight, teams you put, in the five power five conference champions so you put. A value on winning your conference, championship so if you make the, conference Championship and win it you have. Those power five teams they are Five out of the eight teams then you have to. Guarantee if you go to eight a little guy that, gets. It so a little guy would be outside of the power five and we've seen some of, the schools, have a lot of success PJ Fleck, with, the row, your boat, but even more success was Houston's Tom. Herman they did I believe beat Florida state in a. Big game and then this past year UCF the, take down Auburn so those schools that get into the new year, six bowl. "Washington policy circles dc is a really small town everybody is friends with somebody who either was or works for someone who was involved in launching the iraq war it's not easy to clean house like that and nobody wants to do it but i mean you don't have to clean house if people just change their minds but then you would have to confront how wrong you were i mean can you imagine waking up in the morning and thinking i had some really wrongheaded believes and it got tens of thousands of americans and potentially hundreds of thousands of iraqis killed in a war that really is still raging or you could wake up and say you know i did my best and i was misled by faulty intelligence and i don't need to worry too much about it we're all going to make the ladder choice when the post came out about the pentagon papers we called up les gelb who was the person in the pentagon who put the pentagon papers together who talked about how he had ultimately changed his mind about the war but it was too late and there's this tremendous echo because you say it wasn't about bush lying but about being a true believer gelb said the lesson of the pentagon papers was more or less the same you story has been put out of the pentagon papers show they're all lying but while the paper show some lies the main message is that our leaders from truman on woods did know hardly anything about the men into china they were ignorant and it also shows that foreign policy community believe that if we lost vietnam the rest of asia would fall and that was kind of a given and look because we never learned that darn lesson about believing away into these wars we went into afghanistan and we went into iraq.
