Philadelphia Eagles agree to terms with RB Jordan Howard

"Philadelphia signed jordan howard and they resigned boston scott last week and the bengals awesome good. That's just that's okay. If i will stay with the bengals released giovanni bravo. Go to the eagles this matter. We're just glossing way where we're just going to gloss over geelong we'll come back to that start with the eagles does. Does this matter. Jordan howard and boston scott back and again. The boss scott was not a surprise. They tendered leave so they did. We knew he was coming back. But now jordan howard joining the fold does this matter for miles sanders. Obviously scott matters more. I wonder if he'll become their version. Of nahim hines. And kinda sorta was already and jordan. Our coming back i. I'm not sure why. I don't know what they saw. In jordan howard. When he was in miami that makes them want to put him on the roster that maybe the roster spot is in guaranteed that would probably be the case We'll see it's not gonna make me any more nervous to draft miles sanders still think sanders worth a top thirty pack

The jalaun community reacts almost to the head of that sort of settled with them Moving into the obviously twenty twenty one. The area will be different disconnected because the cats were gone from her july line. Fans couldn't guard games. It was it was a different feel. I think in off suspect was a beautiful We will begin by bit. Assad and the caftans moved on pretty quickly. They wasn't a load of kicking the can down the straight by wildcat fans dragging the fate. Instead of having a nozzle buffa going into halftime it. Just broader all the white back in twenty nine. Pray limo live game You had that sense of deja vu that the cats dominated could never get far enough in front but then you look at a couple of things to the deed happened that you i will. That wouldn't only happened that little apple app. The saw dole hamble to sell things. Cancel themselves at Dangerfield that long haul Accurate in front of gaul. They galls reached in the second half and We got the result. And i think we've got the raw resolve like if you have a mutual observer football you would guy richmond winning the flag while the rock is out a modern geelong feigns. But i'll think wind hood anywhere near as much as two desmond and i can still talk about. That was actually at that time. So so i. Chris got guys into his eleven season. Just just how it. He's not warranted. It's warranted you judged on. hey. Coaching falls down. But there's a couple of habits to that the A little put on on. As Melbourne Recovers, Regional Victoria Is Struggling

"So it's really great to see that the numbers in Melvina starting to level off a little bit which is Greg. Norman but what we're now seeing in Victoria is that country areas seem to be. The case of seem to be increasing the are on average. That's right. So they're the interesting figures from yesterday are looks even Steven. So my precipitous decline is not happening and unfortunately for Torian. So let's hope it happens soon but sitting underneath or some some figures where regional Victoria is pretty stubbornly persistent there the numbers are up and down, and if you take the average, the trend is. Still although maybe it's just turning the corner with Stage three Geelong. Bendigo is a problem and so there is fire circulating in regional. Victoria and that's holding up. That's underpinning some of the numbers that you're seeing out to Victoria and it's a real policy issue here because they're going to stage three, they don't necessarily believe they have to because a lot of country areas don't have any covered. Had No experience of it. But you could envisage a scenario which would be terrible scenario, which is that the solve the problem in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, but regional Victoria takes off big time and it doesn't take much to take off. So the question is, do they go to stage four in some parts of regional, Victoria Ledge and Bendigo? Right it wouldn't have to be the whole rest of the state but in those other other places that seem to be emerging hotspots, perhaps they do need stronger restrictions there your and ring-fencing them and so so that you're trying to do what the actually didn't do properly in the thirty six suburbs in. Melbourne. All those weeks ago. Is. Do that in those in those regional centres and then quite a few healthcare workers perhaps about one hundred in the figures that came out your as well. So healthcare workers are really turning out to be a major issue and a major problem I. Mean we did talk about this a little bit yesterday but just to recap what what are the main ways that we can stop transmission among healthcare workers? Well, it's multi faceted. It's people coming from areas where there is cover nineteen and bringing it in with them, but it's almost certainly mostly caught in the healthcare environment. In fact, that's what Brett sunset a few days ago. And it means that they've got to really get tough about case definition recognizing where there's risk is probably risk all over the place and that P probably needs to be much more widely warn and they've just got to be risk averse one of the people who one of our listeners has written in saying that we should be talking about the fact that is airborne when it comes to protecting healthcare workers did I need to have more negative pressure rooms in hospitals and those sorts of things very difficult to engineer negative. Pressure rooms the so it's fine to say that, but you've got to it's a big deal to have a negative pressure room. So for people who don't know what we're talking about, this is where you suck air in from outside your essentially removing the air from the environment and fresh air is coming in but the problem sometimes with negative pressure is that the arrogance recirculated internally as well so that you're not Nisus you might be actually spreading infection of try to look at this some the happy indications where some single rooms. which are not negative pressure. And we our people are awake not on a ventilator. So if you're on a ventilator. In an intensive care unit, there are viral filters on the ventilator. But if you're in oxygen with covid nineteen in a single room, it's possible that that virus is being circulated through the rest of the intensive care unit and I've heard stories and yet to actually have them confirm. That this is a common problem internationally with intensive care units and in Canada, they've punched holes in windows and Putin, extractor fans into the windows to solve this problem and I know that some intensive care directors are concerned about this but I've tried to pin down and I think there is some variation around the place. So you see you've got to be really careful with ventilation and lots of fresh air coming in in internal environments in hospitals, and it's not entirely clear how people catching it, but we almost certainly don't have full blown. E where we need

"Just use the handle at Geelong money now back to the show your back it's Jill on money and we are about to conclude our interview with Dan Roth he's the editor in chief of Lincoln and this is such a strange time because I know a lot of folks celebrated the college graduations of their family members you know kids or nieces nephews grand kids yeah it was so strange although I would say that the virtual graduation that I participated in is probably my favorite graduation that I attended let me just say that and now here's the problem young workers you got a pretty crappy labor market and this is the worst employment landscape since the Great Depression let's not sugar coat it the national bureau of economic research they say that covert nineteen they're calling it a major reallocation shock they think that forty two percent of recent layoffs will become permanent once so that means more than eleven point six million lost jobs now obviously there's going to be some of those jobs to come back great so there can be other jobs that appear but for new entrants into the labor force it's really tough because you're going to be competing with all those more experienced job seekers you're all gonna be vying for a shrinking number of available positions and you know it stinks I know a lot of kids had their offers pulled from them I know that internships have been withdrawn so you know it's not I get it it's not easy there is a also this other annoying thing which is just bad luck that people who graduate into a recession make less money in the early parts of their careers and it's about nine percent of annual earnings in the first ten years after ten years it kind of gets a lot better I'm unfortunately that you know you might be under employed for a while hopefully that this will be a trend that on winds fairly quickly but we don't know we do know that college graduates still do better in the job market than non college graduates their unemployment rate is much lower but you know it's it's going to be a slog that's it I think that maybe the best news is that a lot of the analysis does suggest that under employment is usually a temporary phase just take any job though really that's the most important thing any job is the job that you should take don't fuss around here so we're gonna get into that here is the end of my interview with Dan Roth from linkedin I remember your boss Jeff Weiner coming on our air and talking about soft skills of college graduates and graduate school folks that that was going to be important you see that balance between now you're talking about networking computer engineering and hardware what kind of soft skills does one need in an era where more people are working from home where we're doing more zoom meetings or just you know calling in not in person how would you hire for those skills if you were you know hiring new young writers the skills that employers demand are the ones that did the show that you know how to communicate and how to be persuasive and no matter what the we we all need you you've heard over and over again you need to be a programmer you need to know how to how to code you've got to have to have these technical skills you've got to be an expert in certain areas those kind of skills really help you get started and they help you get ahead for a short period of time but to rise to the top you have to have the soft skills now in a post pandemic world in a world where we are we have a much more distributed workforce and where there is going to be pretty massive changes in the kind of industries that are around or the new kinds of jobs that are created I think they're two really big things that are gonna matter one is communication skills and that's communication over a phone call over a video conference over email and in person how can how do you talk to people how do you get your point across the the second one and this is a really important one is adaptability how well can you adapt to the changing environment that one defines everything because it means if you're in a large company in your position shuts down or the world changes like adjusted to being adaptable is means that you can actually write about so you might have a skill to get you a job but if you want to keep that job the communication skills and the adaptability or what are going to be able you to hold on to the job and then to rise through the ranks one example we've been looking for stories of companies that are that have gone above the call that has done a lot for their employees for the communities and there's a bookstore in Michigan that immediately did a go fund me with their customers they raise enough money from people who are doing the they're such a good relationship with our customers the people just gave money to a bookstore and was enough for them to hold on to I think it was twenty two of our twenty four employees so smart move by the owners to realize the environment is changing and they switch to an online ordering process they had none of that before they quickly embraced technology xcelerated something that was already going on they realized they had to be in the digital age even more fascinating to me was there was a bar in Boston who changed their you know the bar was closed down they couldn't have patrons and but they realize people the older realize that people need the antibody testing and he switched as part of becoming antibody testing center totally adapted only changes entire business when the world change that to me is the kind of adaptability that will be required to make it in whatever this great reset is that we're going through I want to end with we're talking it's may it's graduation season it is so awful that many of our college students they've been toiling or drinking for four years they're finally done they're gonna enter the labor force and labor force is a mess what advice do you have for recent graduates I'm not sure this is the best advice and I think that we are all trying to figure this out together I can tell you what I would do if I were in your shoes I would know in general where I want to be what kind of industry what I want to do in general in the long run and then I would get any job I could to pay the bills and start figuring out how to network with those people who are in that industry and I think that if you can't get the perfect job get a job get a job and you have to hustle on the side to be able to land where you want to land it is not going to be easy for these graduates it is going to be very very difficult and they have been told for years that they should pursue what they love I still think that is good advice but I would say do not hold out to get that perfect job you knew exactly where you want it is going to be a lot of hard work and you're gonna have to work overtime to get noticed and get attention and to get a book of business in that area that's what you gotta do thanks so much Dan Roth for coming on the show this weekend it's been so great to talk to him and reconnect if you've got financial questions and you really think that very career oriented especially we love to.

"Slazenger welcome welcome it's the Jill on money show we are so delighted you are joining us today it's the first weekend in may it who knows what day it is I don't know when you're listening to this and I certainly can't tell you what date is when I'm recording it because every day is like the next day some believable it is the corona virus extension here on the Geelong money show and we are broadcasting from the Capital One virtual studios Capital One what's in your wallet it's quite it's just been amazing I can't live another month is behind us it's I guess this really for for me the beginning of this crisis dates back to sort of the March issue area that's on market started to gyrate but I happened to look up the first time that I had written anything about the virus and it's kind of weird because I I didn't I guess going back in time and looking at that on February it was January thirty first was the first time that I actually wrote about this and I went back and I realize how wrong that wrong but it was like the head somebody had like the understatement of the century in because I wrote about it as a blog post and I said listen to this I said we don't know the lasting impact there is likely to be at least a short term effect which could cause ripples that are worth monitoring I mean really that has got to be the most the craziest understatement at least of the year and probably of the decade so it is with us the it's just been it's been swift and it has been horrible not just the spread of the virus but the economic impact and we also know that the the impact on individuals has been sudden and pretty horrible so with millions of people out of work and maybe you're one of them in your listening if you need some.

"Geelong money where Jill Slazenger takes the mystery out of your finances eleven market makes a mistake because it's so rare that he does so I just want to have a moment here to enjoy it I usually make all the mistakes in this do well feels good mark great okay thanks your back it's Jill on money and if you've got a financial question we'd love to hear from you so I had a mark when you send that email he's the one who kind of monitors the in box and make sure that we get to everything say hi Hey marcado mark when he actually gonna get married as that question so I can stop asking it everyone when you send your next email sent at ask Jill Jill on money dot com start with dear Jill and mark Hey mark when he finally getting married let's start with that all right like don't blame it on that mark okay all right but well let's get a date on the box I'm gonna be your flower girl okay I'm just trying to follow up question to our episode about facet wealth if you guys did not hear that episode you can go back to Jill on money dot com and just you can go through the archive there but essentially facet wealth is one of these new companies it's sort of a hybrid all right and so we had this guy brand twice on the show and he talked about and you know like what this company does which is instead of charging a percentage of assets that they manage the charge a fixed fee and it's like forty Bucks a month somewhere between five hundred dollars and five thousand dollars a year and so that it's kind of interesting it's a it's a really interesting model and tissues basically asks the question like Hey do you think this makes sense for us and says that they she has you know wants to know that I want to know about allocation and and sort of a big picture though is it worth it should that should do the monthly fee or could be resolved in a few hours so your alternative to fasted wealth would be to find somebody to just do an overall financial plan for you and have that person do it by the hour and the CM much it will cost and you can compare it I would suggest that you talk to some maybe a nap fall adviser and national association of personal financial advisors napa dot org that could be a good place to start I'm might make a lot of sense so check it out we can compare what the prices are all right Linda writes that she is currently maxing out her four oh one K. that she started in September of last year I hadn't and I'm confused about how to handle seven thousand dollar irate deposits my vanguard advisor group tell me to make bi monthly deposits in my existing rollover IRA their after tax because they don't qualify for any deduction the adviser said hello brother I just is a long story here okay I see the problem so anyway she was trying to do a I'm a back door Roth so you put money a backdoor Roth is you put money into a non deductible retirement account and then you quickly converted into a Roth IRA and then you have no problem with the income limits but the problem is that I'm the existing rollover IRA if someone told you to do that that probably was pre tax money and knives screw the whole thing up so what I think you need to do is number one remember that you cannot do a raw like a back door Roth if you've got this other money in an IRA rollover kind of messes up the whole thing and so you've got to be very careful if again this big the existing rollover IRA is the problem okay that messes up the calculation what you could do is take your existing rollover IRA and then you could roll that into your current four oh one K. put all that money together then you can make a nondeductible IRA contribution into a brand new account and then convert that into a Roth that's what I would do now the problem for you is that it seems like you've gotten a lot of questions and concerns I'm I think that what you really need to do is that that you need to make sure the money is separated you need to undo these transactions and the first thing that I would do is take the old roll over and put it in your current four oh one K. then the problem is going to cease to exist if you need help with this you might I mean you say of the CPA you need to be very clear maybe so maybe the other the financial advisor maybe didn't realize there's this other account but if you've got an existing IRA account or rollover IRA and it hasn't been taxed and you want to do a back door Roth it makes it very difficult to do the backdoor Roth because there's this weird calculation that messes up the whole benefit of doing a backdoor Roth for you got to do the whole thing and I bet you don't have enough money to pay the whole tax due on that anyway I am so sorry because it sounds like a little bit.

In Daegu, Coronavirus Leaves City A 'Shadow Of Its Usual Bustling Self'

"South Korea's fourth largest city Daegu is the main battlefield for the country's fight against the new coronavirus the city accounts for about three quarters of the country's roughly seven thousand cases centers Anthony kun reports from Seoul the explosion of cases as overwhelmed the city's hospitals forced medical authorities to change their tactics the city of Daegu about a hundred and fifty miles southeast of Seoul has long been an industrial center in transport hub but lately the city of two and a half million has become a shadow of its usual bustling self cert dental ten on the lights on and it actually looks like a scene from the disaster movie Dr E. joon yup is communications director for the day go medical association couldn't handle all streets are empty restaurants and shops are closed and people stock up on instant noodles not because other foods are in short supply but because they want to avoid going out on February eighteenth the sixty one year old woman was confirmed as day goes first corona virus case investigators believe he came into contact with over eleven hundred people most our fellow members of the shin Chung G. church of Jesus a religious group which accounts for most of the cases indigo Dr Trey Song hole of Geelong University College of medicine and soul explains one reason why the virus spread so quickly your honor and compassion my genital people to please virus symptoms are mild in the early even though viral transmission hi patients may not realize that are infected and so they go about their everyday lives Aegion Europe says it first there was just a trickle of patients indigo hospitals were able to care for them it was a C. telling it to push it on to me Daegu city policy at first was to put every patient in a negative pressure room regardless of the severity of their symptoms negative pressure rooms isolate infected patients by preventing contaminated air from escaping the room people who came into contact with an infected person Dr E. explains were quarantined in public hospitals or other facilities right when they will seek that which he has all it wasn't a mistake but the city didn't expect the number of patients to grow so fast in other words a lack of proper triaging left the hospital system clogged with patients with mild symptoms as of Friday some eighteen hundred patients are almost forty percent of day goes total we're at home awaiting hospital beds to have already died waiting doctors say they must now deal with a new chapter in the epidemic Kim Jong garb president of the Korean association of public health doctors says he's seeing a shift in tactics from trying to contain and traced the virus to trying to mitigate its impact and prevent deaths twenty one twenty with unknown could consult upon all since last Saturday I've seen government efforts to securing more hospital beds and building a triaging system this is still going on critics who say the government has been a step behind in shifting to a mitigation strategy do have a point trace on host says that the next logical step in containing the epidemic could be a difficult one table one manhunt under so you don't get hurt I believe the surest way is to stop people's activities and movements and I personally suspect that the government understands this and wants to impose stricter limits on social activities but a domestic travel ban could be politically unpopular and so far soul hasn't even suggested one as for debut it remains unclear when case numbers there will peak and then begin to

"IRA's refinancing she covers it all back to Geelong money with gills lesson you are back it's Jill on money maybe it has something to do with that time of year but we got a few different realistic questions I had and we just finished up with our first question of the program about buying a home with Mariana in the bay area we're going to talk a little bit about the idea of whether or not it makes sense to make extra payments on a mortgage now what's fascinating is mortgage rates are going back down and had gone back down and I think this is I'm starting to get people a little bit on nerves in some respects like Hey should I refinance again should I pay down my mortgage I paid off that is really dependent on what's going on in your life but don't forget when you think about a mortgage these two aspects of it is you know one is yes it feels good to be relieved of your debt but there's another aspect of it which is you have the ability to hang on to your money right one to pay down that mortgage you don't have the money anymore so we often will field this question that's why I wanted Nick from the bay area to bring us to date to see whether or not my previous advice still tends to hold so here's our next caller ideal how you doing today great what's up so I was caught on a good to see just got a small raise and was curious whether it be better off putting a little lecture towards the principal payment on my mortgage or putting it towards retired okay I love I love paying down debt but figured I'd ask questions all right any other debt that's out there any student loans and the Karrer any credit card anything else thankfully no all right that's great tell me about yourself how old are you thirty seven okay Roger you married single partnered okay married and right now the house is worth approximately how much or call eight hundred fifty thousand okay now tell me the mortgage amount that is outstanding is how much three ninety eight what is the.

"Initiative. Sixteen thirty nine raises the legal age to buy semiautomatic rifles from eighteen years old at twenty one. I sixteen thirty nine was approved by voters in November. The Seattle times reports that people will also have to pass in enhanced background. Check, take firearms training and wait ten business days before they can have the semiautomatic weapon starting July. First, I sixteen thirty nine also creates the new crime of community endangerment, which gun owners could be charged with four improperly storing guns, if someone not allowed to have when like a child or a felon gets a hold of it. And finally, the FBI is eliminating so-called courtesy checks which allow Washington's concealed carry license holders to avoid the ten day waiting period and bring home a handgun on the same day. They by using a program in Australia as a model Seattle could be one of the first cities in our country to try and save youth before they become homeless in a city called Geelong, Australia, three schools started screen. "Follow Jill on Twitter and Instagram for more, personal finance content. Just use the handle at Geelong money. Now back to the show. Year back with jail on money. If you've got a financial question now, I mean financial question really covers a lot. It can be a tax question. Retirement question of college planning question. Maybe you're comparing two different job offers. Maybe it's a question about marriage. Maybe it's a question about estate planning all those things we talk about all this stuff. And if I don't know the answer. Be very clear that I will be happy happy more than happy. As a matter of fact to tell you, I don't know and maybe find out for you. So give us a holler. Today's a very strange day. Mark a number of I'm just getting a number of cancellations. We had someone who didn't show up for an interview today. Now, I find out the person who was supposed to do my hair because I supposed to go away and do a business thing not available. You know, I'm just gonna figure it out people screwing with me big time. I'm going to be flexible though, okay? Here's Brett who writes, I don't know if this idea is crazier, smart, my wife, and I bought a house. He wrote that I didn't say that. I was not my ad-lib, my wife, and I bought a house at the very bottom of the market in twenty eleven we paid one hundred seventy thousand dollars. It's now worth three hundred twenty grand. We spent this last seven years paying it off. We have about fifteen thousand dollars left, and we're going to have that paid off in a few months. We want to turn it into a rental in the next few years. I heard some time in the past that people put rentals into a corporation, and then they sell the house to the corporation in essence, we would capture the gains of what I think is the top of the market. We could then right alone for the corporation or even have signed a promissory note back to us. Then when we rented out the income would be tax free. What he think I think this is a cockamamie scheme. I don't know anything about this. But I can tell you is it sounds to me like it's very easy. All you need to do is talk to I I we talked to a tax professional who has real estate expertise. But I really would think about this. Are you sure you want to make it a rental where else are you gonna live? And if you put the rental into the corporation. You got a former corporation and then. If you own that corporation, and you sell it to yourself. I have a sneaking suspicion that the IRS is not going to be psyched about that. Just thinking. Anyway, I think it's probably not possible. And in when you have to jump through all these hoops to do things like this. It always makes me feel uncomfortable. Here's another real estate question. It's about ten thirty one. Oh, no. It's not. I thought it was ten thirty five ten thirty.
