"When he was the big rookie, it was going to get called up and in spring training. Even leading into that spring trading hits 61 errors and 208 games. And in that spring training had a hard time throwing a first base, of course, it sort of stopped primarily there, a little bit of second base as they worked them in. But it was something that Dave Roberts had to address something he had to address. They talked about him working on the mental side to kind of overcome it, which a lot of times when we see guys struggle to throw the first base, it's done. They're not going to figure it out, or it's going to be a long time. Gavin Lux was able to do that. In fact, he got brought up. I mean, it became a non issue. And seeing it was the throwing air that he had with three runs that ended up scoring that inning. And the second game of the series against the Diamondbacks and then yesterday had one where Freddie Freeman was like Freddie doing golden glove Freddy Freeman type stuff jumping off of the bag, making the crab getting his foot to come back and get the out. And you just saw on Gavin Lux's face, like what the heck is going on. Because these throws and obviously from second and he had plenty of time, they were never rushed and it just was like nowhere near the target. So something that definitely to keep an eye on, of course, the Dodgers have so much stuff, but I'm not kidding Gavin Lux coming into the season. I mean, there was an exciting, his at bats. I mean, what he can do, especially at the bottom of that order. Something that they definitely want to figure out. Two quick ones, the Padres, Eric Hosmer, among the league leaders and hitting what he's seeing in him. You know, I was talking to him when they were playing the Dodgers last week and two things. First bob Melvin and.

"And so he had surgery and he was done for the year and maybe he'll be back to full strength next year, but sucks for Michael conforto, obviously, because as we discussed, he did turn down a big extension offer from the Met's previously and also turned down the qualifying offer from the mets. So that's unfortunate. I mean, that happens at times. That's why sometimes certainty is important. I mean, we talk all the time about how often these long-term contracts can be team friendly, but there are those cases of players who that team friendliness. I mean, the teams can assume the risk that something might happen to a particular player because they have a whole lot of other players and a lot of money, but players it's just a sample of one. It's just those players. And so often they bet on themselves and it works out just fine for them, but every now and then you suffer an unfortunately timed injury. And you end up maybe missing out on a ton of money, which isn't to say that he couldn't come back and get a bigger deal down the road, but right now, I don't know, either he is shaking his fist at the universe or kicking himself for just generally lamenting the way that things work sometimes or maybe he is very philosophical about the whole thing and it doesn't bother him all that much and he's not going to be out on the street or anything, but yeah, not fortuitous timing for Michael. Yeah, it's one of those things where we kind of thought he would that he might end up taking like a pillow contract next year and now he really will be. Yeah. So that's too bad. It's just you feel bad for the guy. It's one of those things that with the benefit of hindsight he would just be he'd just be a rehabbing met and what's newsworthy about that really. Might not even talk about it. Yeah. Although the mets are off to a great start. So far this season. And otherwise, but in better, we're encouraging news about an outfielder. I guess bellies back? I don't know if yelling is back yet, but belly seems to be back, right? Cody Bellinger is hitting a one 49 WRC plus thus far through 16 games. He is hitting the ball hard. He is in the 91st percentile when it comes to hard hit rate. He seems to be catching up to some pitches that he would not have caught up to last year and, you know, there was a lot of concern about him coming off of the disastrous last season. He had so many injuries that it wasn't clear whether the injuries were responsible or not, and then he kind of retooled his swing again and in spring training, he struck out a ton, and there were more fears, but the Dodgers kind of bet on him when they traded AJ Pollock and committed to Bellinger and Gavin Lux, who's also been great thus far the Dodgers. I think are tied for the mets in run scored so far this season among the league leaders in offense. And Bellinger's been a big part of that. So it's still a smallish sample I don't want to declare him back to MVP form necessarily. He still striking out a ton and probably will continue to do that. But he has hit in the ball parter and he's overall been very productive. So that is encouraging news. Yeah, I think that we have seen sort of fits and starts from him in the last, I don't know, two, three years where we're like, oh, everything is gonna be fine and then it kind of plummets. So there is precedent for this being a short lived return to form, but it has seemed to be a good one so far, and that's pretty encouraging from a guy who notched like just, it's not, it's almost unbelievable how bad he was last year and granted he was hurt and so he missed a ton of time. Like he only played 95 games. I think I'm looking now 350 plate appearances. So he clearly, you know, he was injured and then he appeared to be at times compromised when he even was on the field, but like a 48 WRC plus. I mean, we talked in the off season. I think the conclusion that we reached is that they wouldn't do it, but we felt the need to entertain the question is Cody Bellinger and non tender candidate. Yeah. And, you know, he clearly wasn't, but we had a pretty decent sense of what he was likely to make an arbitration even with the down year. And you know, this is another place where the Dodgers are the Dodgers, and they are able to press an advantage. See, this is the advantage that everyone in baseball should try to press, right? Is the money advantage? What fund that would be? We would be over the moon if everyone was like, no, I'll just spend more than you did. That sounds great. But like, you know, a lot of teams faced with Cody Bellinger's production in a potential $17 million arbitration deal with just like move on. And do other stuff in the Dodgers are like, it's just money. So far, they are being rewarded for that foresight. Will he continue? But it's pretty nice so far. Yeah, and as for jelly, Christian Yelich of the brewers, I don't know what to make of him anymore, because on the one hand, he's been dealing with various injuries. He had the knee injury and the surgery, which was pretty serious. It seemed to coincide with him no longer being in otherworldly player and just going back to basically being a league average hitter more or less. And then he had back injuries and kind of like a chronic recurring back issue and that's something that concerns me for a player. I mean, you go back to Don Mattingly there are lots of examples of hitters who have had back issues that have just sapped their power pretty much permanently..

"He swung and missed only three times buster, he's chased only three times. And he's already got four swings in which he's generated an exit velocity of at least 100 mph. Cubs gave him a huge contract. $85 million is a lot. So we should have expected a lot, but I don't feel like much was made about them and him and spring training. I'm not so sure he's going to emerge as a superstar, but early indications are that he has a chance to be an excellent big league hitter. Right, you had a suggestion for a segment called real or fake. And so I'm going to give you three starts and you tell me if this is what they're doing early, these players is a reflection of something real or fake, like cattell Marte after slow start. I think that's going to be fake buster. I do think Marte is going to have a great season. Right now, his batting average on balls in play is under 200, despite making great contact. And I think there's a durable track record here, since 2019 is the third leading hitter in baseball with a three 15 batting average, pairs that with a 5 36 slug. And he's also steaming right now. He's like smack dab in the middle of what should be his prime. I think Marte is poised for a huge season. I'm not perturbed by what we've seen so far. I think he's going to break out and be a monster. Gavin Lux off to a great start. What do you think? So I think this is real buster. I think this is his breakout season. Let's put in context where he was and where he's arrived now because we obviously know the minor league track record was extraordinary. And he still hasn't surpassed 500 career bigly yet bats in large part because he's just stuck on the Dodgers who have an all star at practically every position. He's always sort of been a misfit on defense there too, but look they're playing him at second base where he has proven to be good. We know his struggles have mostly come in the outfield. It would not surprise me if I say mid season buster. This is an impact hitter in the middle of their order who is comfortable playing in an everyday role at second base. I believe in the talent. I think this could be his breakouts either. You agree with me that the difference between the Dodgers and just about every team except for maybe the raise is their ability to develop young players because I do, you know, they're so patient. They've done such a great job being patients with guys like Will Smith. Walker buehler at Gavin Lux, I think, would be the latest example. Their process is extraordinary. When you pair the amount of money that they can spend with the sort of shrewd team building strategy that Andrew Friedman brought over, it is an approach buster that I don't know how any team in baseball could over a period of time be better than them until something changes. There is no obvious reason to me why the Dodgers couldn't keep on this track for several more years. Their process is about as perfect as it gets and just and they can just so happen to spend as much money as they possibly want. They do as good a job as anyone in baseball of developing players as well. And look, I mean, Andrew Freeman was outstanding doing that in Tampa. Now we have three times the payroll. On Sunday Night, it looks like we're going to get you Darvish of the Padres pitching against the braves. He allowed 9 runs in two thirds the other night was at an outlier. Buster, I mean, I don't think so. Maybe to that degree it was an outlier, but I think we've seen enough now to worry that you Darvish is best days are behind him. So hashtag arbitrary endpoint here, but he made the all star team last year. But I went back and looked at the second half of a season bleeding into this season. So he's made 16 starts since the beginning of July last year. And in those 16th dark spots there, his ERA is 7.04. It's the highest ERA of any qualified pitcher during that time and also over that period of time. He owns the highest home run rate of any qualified pitcher. His breaking balls, which were once like this suite of just extraordinary swing and a mess, are no longer a weapon. The league is tagging his slider and tagging his curveball in a way that we have just not seen before. The velocity is still there. You're still seeing high strikeout totals, but you're seeing those walks creep up a little bit and you're seeing the damage done on swings to a much larger degree than before. You're not, you don't have to be nearly as defensive and even counts with you, Darvish as you used to. I think that might be a sunk cost and I don't think we're I don't think we're looking at days moving forward buster in which you Darvish resembles anything approximating in hands. It's fascinating because this week I heard that part of the discussion with darvis and tell me if based on the data that you just recite it and by the way, I want you to send it to me for our Sunday Night game. I heard this week that basically the front office saying, you got to throw your fastball more than you do. Like this whole approach of throwing the kitchen sink isn't working. And in his first start, 50% fastballs. That is so interesting, because I watched a bunch of you do ever starts in the second half of last season. And noticed this. But that whole, like you said, that whole array of sliders and curveballs and he obviously used to sit with that stuff and work as fastball off of it. The league is slugging a higher clip off of those pitches over that last sort of stretch that I described going back to July. And then his fastball, which was, which is obviously totally counterintuitive based upon, you know, years of track record and the big leagues. The Padres are looking at the same data that I am. And they're saying like, you have to pitch a little bit more traditionally because this spin, like once you sort of lose the sharpness of those pitches, obviously, you're giving hitters a greater chance to react. And you reduce your effectiveness to a great degree. Right now, you Darvish, it's pitching like you still has ace stuff. And he doesn't anymore. So he's going to have to modify his approach and do it quickly. All right, hambo. Thanks for doing this. And I'll talk to you next week. Thanks, man. Bleacher.

"We're we're we're doing fantastic work here so so i guess let's start as i said twenty minutes ago with your dodgers who are going to face the cardinals and i guess like what are you. What makes you feel good going into this match up craig. What what makes you feel like this is a this is gonna be easy. I'm going to be able to continue to watch the dodgers deep into the playoffs. Well i mean nothing right. Like i'm i don't fan of this team and i am. I am as anyone who has followed. And i apologize if you have on twitter. I am a fatalistic van and a kind of just assume the worst because it helps me cope when it happens so look. They're much better team than than the cardinals are. But i don't like accepting that emotionally because it's just gonna make it hurt more if it look. It's one game like it can go. It can go in any direction and it really doesn't doesn't matter right like it. It just doesn't them being looked they understandings basis. They they want one hundred. Six games in the cardinals. Ninety right there are much better team like rationally. That should make me feel better but all it does is make me think it's going to be so much worse when they lose so in that sense nothing in an actual logical sense max. Scherzer is a viable option for the cy young yet had a little bit of stumbled towards the end of the season. He's one of the best pitchers of this gender. I mean it's like him. Kershaw and and lender and i guess cranky agents at the end of the year which is weird. That is weird. But those are are the kind of the mount rushmore of pictures of this generation. And they're all pretty effective even at their age and masters. Are you know at this point not to speak l. verlander but he's hurt so Sherzer at this point the most effective of them all yes and yes that that makes me feel very good. I mean they're lineup. In general has has started to hit. They went a very long time without scoring five runs in a game. I think the last four games this season scored at least eight runs range of the last four games that has to make you feel good. Trae turner has been incredible. I mean yeah cory. Seager has looked like the Twenty twenty playoffs cory seager. Yes mookie. Betts has rounded into forum. Us me to pick one thing. I've listed a bunch but good things Those are good things to list. Those are all the things that that would make me feel good. There are things that i you know. That would make me feel bad if you want me to go there. Well i think. I think maybe we should. And then we're going to do the same exercise for the dardanelles and so then you might come away feeling like good at the at the end of it but what is giving you apart from just the the knowledge that it is one game and that you are unable to accept good things in your life probably should be talked to professional about what about what about this current setup makes you feel some trepidation going into wednesday. The biggest thing at this point as max muncie is not going to be there if they advanced probably going to be in the next round and it's just a a really rough again another guy in the conversation probably down ballot for mvp had a tremendous season is such a key cog in the middle of their line up. Because i i know the saying is that that speed never slumped but like for him even when he is slumping in his patients is end. Knowledge of the zone is so remarkable that he gets on base anyway and so like for him. It's hit says base never slumps I think that's that's the biggest thing and just kind of the number of guys that are forced into the lineup. Because of it so it. It seems to me that they're going to maybe platoon matt. Badie albert holes in his spot gavin lux left. You know they put a tape impression of him on the wall in center field. After he ran into a wall he had been actually hitting really well in september right and instead you get cody bellinger. Which is i guess on some level. A nice problem to have. He's elite defensive center fielder had at all this year and he has broken ribs right. Chris taylor has a bad neck so again like this team is exceedingly deep. But they're all kind of there are a lot of semi broken pliers right. So yeah those are those. Are the things and yeah. I look masters last starts. One of them was at cores. I don't know how to to put into that weren't ideal i grace but i don't put too much credence on. Just two starts being an issue for for someone like sherzer. Yeah i think particularly given that one of them is course. It's like that's the thing to be mindful of a man. I think he he can get got by home runs on occasion. But you're right. He's he's definitely ben. Clemens wrote for us today but how corbin branches young winner in the found his argument persuasive but if people like sherzer as their you know two or three in that conversation. I think that that is a completely reasonable thing. He's added incredible year. And gosh would pick up. The dodgers have been all of the other stuff including kershaw being hurt now right. It seems to have been fortuitous on their part. Can i offer. I don't have conviction in this. I'm not advocating for it. I want. I want that to be clear. But i have a question for you. Greg cody bellinger. Non tender candid. I've thought about it. Yeah i bet. Yeah he has a forty eight. Wnyc plus yeah. Yeah he's been really really. I think the reason he's not is his defense share and that like even a league average bat right with with his ability in centerfield is a really quite valuable player free and i do wonder how much his are figure even moves. Ram and how bad he was right right for sure and especially the fact that like he defense tends to be overlooked in tough to argue for in arbitration. Yes i imagine. And to be clear. I i know that you are not. I am not advocating for an underpaid or anything like that but these are the these are the things that kinda come together to make a guy not really move very much. You know if if you're going into your what is his third year of our bright as third year but then he's a super too so he'll have one more after that. Okay well. i think that's a reasonable answer. It is a question that i imagine. The dodgers have asked themselves. They probably end up in the same place that you and i just said. Yeah i mean this is a quick addendum to that. Is that like. I think the team. If you're the dodgers with their payroll and their largest i think to me that's worth rostering this guy on the on the chance that he finds even league average bad if not much better which he can do and also just they build themselves redundancies right. This is an expensive one but it is a very valid redundancy and again they have the wherewithal to to do it so those would be my arguments that they would that. I think they would keep them. I certainly would. It's not my money so it's easy for minnesota well and they're in an interesting spot too. 'cause you know obviously they blew through all of the like the rare team that really did blow through every possible level of the of the cbt which we don't see very often despite how much hand-wringing team seem to engage in but they're also gonna drop down pretty considerably. Granted this does this assumes no more signings which i imagine they will make but like their projected luxury tax number for next year is like a hundred and forty eight million or something like that so it's not like they you know it's not like they're gonna be up against it in quite the same way like in theory they can retain him even if makes something like he did last year in the fifteen or sixteen million dollar range and still kind of have room to maneuver from a payroll perspective. Which you know we don't. That's not our money either so we don't need to be overly fussy but they they managed that number in a very intentional and i think Generally quite smart way so. I suspect that they're going to be conscious of the fact that like you know they. They have a bunch rolling off as i suspect. Kenley is not gonna come back or if he does very reduced figure right. Can you can make you know who knows with kershaw this year and might need tommy. John surgery you know. I don't know if they sign him or just. Let him rehab separately or whatever..

"Wrc plus their offense they are if you exclude pitchers second and third in baseball with the dodgers just slightly ahead of the giants in both behind the astros if you look at defensively like defensive efficiency. The dodgers have the highest defensive efficiency in the majors majors. That means they've converted. The highest percentage of balls and play into outs than the astros than the giants. But if you look at like other defensive metrics with the dodgers all over the place. And i don't know whether that's something you've noticed or whether that is just a function of how the dodgers play defense. But if you look like on baseball savant outs above average. The dodgers are at negative eleven. Which is twenty third in baseball if you look at team. Ucr for instance. The dodgers are twenty-seventh. Somehow maybe that's just because a lot of shift plays are getting thrown out entirely. I don't know if you look at like defensive. Runs saved their kind of both ninth tenth ish. The dodgers are really good defensive team or is it that they've had good pitching that has allowed field. Appalls her is it just like really hard to quantify it other than just looking at. How many calls and player that turn into out because they're shifting so constantly yeah. I don't think they're like you know top three in defensive efficiency. Good on defense. They're they're clearly worse than the last few years. I think losing. Pk hernandez helped. He was sort of the glue either at second base or whatever outfield position. He was at he would. He was seemingly good everywhere. This year has been weird at times. Like i think cory seager since he's returned as Better defensively but he was pretty awful. In the first part in gavin lux was also bad at short but they missed a good chunk of time. With cody bellinger. Not the outfield. Mookie betts as miss time. So i think that's sort of played into it. muncie maximums. He's been really get it first and second which was which is which is kind of surprising. But it's been a weird a very weird year defensively. I do think they just you know they shift very well. They get a lot of like soft contact some. It seems like sometimes that that might that might hurt them against the shift or something but I think i don't know they don't strike me as particularly excellent defensive team but they're probably maximizing what they have with the various shifts and and placement of guys.

"Huh? Just in absolute beat down of the San Francisco Giants by the Dodgers three game sweep and yesterday was not fun at all. 11 to 6, the final you get or es go and taken a perfect game into the sixth inning, the Grand Slam from Gavin Lux. And if any diesel finding with a funny line after the game, they asked about how he felt he was like, I know it sounds weird, but actually, I felt pretty good comfort, tough one there and then you rewind a little bit further. They're the opening sound bite that Dave had coming in the Warriors on Friday night. We'll talk about that. I was out there and Chase Center on Friday. And if Paulie Max said last week, I was supposed to be the game. "And Terry Crowley on KNBR, 1045 and 68 v sports leader. All right. We have got baseball coming up, boy. It is May the 15th. We've got so much ahead of us and good good stories, good stories, and one about that bill last year is going to tell us and carry Crowley joins us a swell I said that Abbott pull host is toast that whoever was and whoever it was going to sub, let his house and start moving in. Well, not so fast as they like to say. It sure is. Marty. They just posted where the L A Dodgers are. Signing Albert Pool halls for the rest of the year is a major league contract. So things are changing in Dodger land as we speak, and they have now acquired Albert Pools. Carrie, What do you make of this? Mean Marty. The first reaction is what How is Albert Pools landed on the Dodgers? I mean, this is a roster that was supposed to be deep enough to withstand anything. Is Cody Bellenger out for a lot longer than we initially anticipated? What's going on in L A. I mean And the fact that they have a roster spot to give Albert Google's who was clearly well past his prime. We're talking 8 to 10 years past his prime, right now D F. Ade by an Angels team that's going, you know, not even above 500. Right now. It's just it's stunning bill it to see Albert Google's land with You know, the team that we all assumed would be the juggernaut in the National League West. Carry. Marty and I were talking earlier to go to go in American League team to D. H. Where's he gonna play? Is Max Muncy not gonna play first base? Is he going to go to first base? He's just gonna be a pinch hitter off the bench. You know, you said it right? Carrie. It doesn't make sense. But something in Dodger Landis seeing something that he did in the Angels that they feel that he's got a little spark left, Marty Well, they've had trouble replacing the bench, and Rios is out for the year and Rios plates from first basement, not mistaking. I could be wrong and I didn't They have another injury of McKinstry, so maybe their bench is is really kind of light. But he was emphatic That said he does not want that kind of job to be a guy who comes off the bench and help so they must have made some commitment to him that he is going to see action. At at first base, which to me is amazing because he couldn't get out of his own way with the Angels and the Angels are in last place, so What can I tell you? Look Farhaan Anxiety and AJ Preller and really all the G. M's and president of baseball operations around the National League have to be ecstatic with this stunning. I mean, no disrespect to Albert poodles. He's a Hall of Famer, one of the most accomplished Right handed hitters of his generation. But this move just doesn't make sense for a team that expects Tioga Pete at the top of the division that expects to defend its World Series title that expects to win 1/9 consecutive National League West Crown. I'm still floored by this bill. Yeah, it's a stunner. We were talking about earlier and and I think some of the things that the Dodgers they're saying, like Marty or saying maybe Belle injuries hurt a little more. Maybe they will put some different moves in different positions. But You know what? I'm I'm just a sweet ball are talking right now. I'm stunned. The Dodgers did something like this. With with that move, what else is going to happen? They have to make some kind of corresponding move for that roster. Well, I think there's someone else is going to go on the DL. I thought McKinstry or somebody I saw some name that someone else is hurt. But I think that pool house as they like to say. Read the room. And he read the room and realized he can't dictate to any team in baseball that he is going to be a full time player, starting player and he read the room. And he lives in L. A. He's in l A and you know, they come on. It's the Dodgers in L. A, so for him was probably very enticing. And I would My guess is he will be a a platoon type bench player who will do that for the Dodgers, and if his long as he's willing to accept that Well, take a shot at him. Why not if he came off the Angel di FAA, saying that he may have had some more action from other teams, but he didn't say that. So I think he's come around. I think he read the room. A Marty, you won't mean dinner at a Jos. You know, you told me I was gonna have this at lunch at her two little at new Little original Joe's, but at the same time we will have toast on the menu because you said he is Toasties. Maybe he very lucky He hasn't done anything. Yet, Okay? And I'm gonna will be talking about this the next few weeks. But look, he couldn't lucky could come off the bench in a tough situation and get a hit. You know, it could happen if he'll agree to do that. And Carrie. That's the deal. I mean, think about the Giants. Could they have used him in some way? If he agreed just to be a right handed hitter who came off the bench? Could you use him? Who do? The Giants have? I don't think so. I think that at this point you prefer Darren Rough, and Austin Slater off the bench is right handed hitters you prefer Marie CIA do Bonds, versatility. The one thing that I would add to this Marty, is that an 86 at bats for the Angels this year? Rubber approvals did have five home runs. The batting average was low. The O P s was low, but the Dodgers like you said they know how to pick their spots. They can have successful platoon matchups, and the one parallel that I would draw is we all thought that Pablo Sandoval's career was over when he was designated for a side by the Boston Red Sox in 2017. We said that is it. Pablo Sandoval's career is done and he came back as a successful pinch hitter. Look, the guy doesn't move around the bases. He can't play a position. But he still can knock one out of the park from time to time. Albert Poo holes in did that this season of his 17 hits, five were home runs, So I guess there are worse options he could have in the late innings off the bench. But I just cannot envision a scenario where you're taking way at bats from Gavin Lux, the up and coming second basement in the Dodgers organization to shift Max Muncy over too. Second base.

"Talk when he makes a headlong dive in the ball ticks off the edge of his love. Coming to the score is fan from third tattoos comes around third. And he will score and into third with a triple is Trent Grisham. Darren Rough is gonna pitch. So for the ninth inning, the country's gonna face Darren Rough on the mountains. The ball game is over the final again today, Padres 11. Giants. One man and that should do it. He had. I forgot. Almost forgot that that happened yesterday. Town 91. The Giants put Darren rough right fielder first baseman left fielder on the mound, and they were showing Highlights of Pablo pitch and Pablo by the wail of a weekend for him to yet another pinch hit home run for the Braves for Pablo Sandoval. Giants go down to the Padres yesterday, but they do take the Syriza. I'm waiting for them. You start getting a little greedy. Start sweeping some of these series anyway. Good morning to you Happy Monday to you. Adam, coupled with in the leadoff spot as we are every weekday 5 to 6 A.m.. Hey, over a month into the season now, based on where the Giants are sitting where the Dodgers were sitting where the Padres you're shitting. You have been feeling pretty good if you're a Giants fan and definitely feeling pretty good if your days fan over the Azores sitting atop the American League West There's some surprises right now through the first month of baseball, and I think I think a lot of times a lot of seasons you get teams that will start hot like this. Like I'm looking at the Kansas City Royals, who started red hot this season, and I think now they've lost eight in a row or something under 500. Now on the first time, Thank you Dame over under 500 since the first week of the season, they started red hot and now they've sort of come back to Earth, and I think it's it's fair to assume at some point sometime soon, and we're starting to see the Yankees ramp up a little bit. Get a little hotter. We'll see how long the right Such can hold on atop the American League East, but at some point and I feel like it's coming, and Giants fans have to be prepared for this. You're going to see the Dodgers later this month, and they're not going to see the Padres for some time. Now. You played my handful of times already at the front end of this season. I think they played him nine times, which means you only get 10 more games now. Against the Padres. So, ah, few more at the back end of the season, and I think they Sprinkle some in throughout the summer, but the Dodgers, you haven't seen them for the first month. These teams are gonna look different. The next time you play them the next time you play the Padres, they will have rounded into the team that they're going to be or close to being by the end of this season. Don't forget they've dealt with injuries to take peace. They've dealt with some pitching woes. Already. At the start of the season, they found a new closer and Mark Melanson and rejuvenated his career. It looks like At the back end of a bullpen anyway. At some point, the other shoe's gonna drop for the Dodgers. Like at some point, they're going to start playing Dodger baseball. We have not seen it quite yet. They've been dealing with a whole lot of injuries. At the beginning of this season, Tony Bellenger was banged up. Gavin Lux was banged up. Then Zach McKinstry comes in. He's on fire. Then he gets injured, but the Dodgers is starting to I want to say implode, but they're starting to look around the clubhouse like Hey, what the hell's going on down here? We're supposed to be winning ball games right now, and I was talking to it to carry and Marty and Bill and by the way, I'm already going to join me on the other side for a little wrap up for the weekend. So more thoughts on Willie Mays just as we we move into this week and a fun celebration this weekend. I was out there on Saturday. We'll talk about that in just a minute. But it's not going to carry and bill about where the Padres are right now sit in second place behind the Giants and how they've underachieved to this 0.19 and 16. They're fine. They're doing just fine considering Fernando Tests he said, had been injured for a while. After that, early serious with the Giants had that shoulder pop out again and was having problems there, But I think You know what we're looking at the Padres like they're contenders, and we were looking at the Dodger, saying this could be the best team in the history of baseball. And that wasn't me. It was Bill PLASCHKE, saying it put the people were making those suggestions before the season all again based off of a fabricated 60 game season that we saw last year. Just sort of deciding. Yes, 60 games was enough to tell us that the Padres are world serious contenders, and I'm not buying it. I'm still not buying it. I have not seen enough from the Padres to show me that this is the team we saw that was slammed Diego last year. That was really hot for a month of the season like we're seeing now, Can you imagine after after, I don't know if they played now the Giants were upto 20 and four teams They played 34 games can imagine playing 26 more games. And then saying that's going to determine with the over under for win total is gonna be next year That's going to determine who are World Series champion is going to be for next year. It's ridiculous to assume this. It's a 60 game campaign. Did, you know extrapolated that over three times So you've got to see if the team can get through the summer time You got to see how they're going to do with the depth. We've already seen them have to deal with some injuries, and they've definitely got some some defense problems. Do the Padres. We saw that another throwing air on Saturday afternoon from Fernando Titties, just going 11 right now. I think he's up to 11 Ares. Which is crazy, considering he's missed time, and he's leading all of short stops or or every player in baseball with that many hairs to this point, so anyway, I don't know that we made too much of the Padres this offseason. But as of right now, they don't look to me like a team. That's It's AH, going to contend for a world serious that the Giants I think they're trying to put people on notice. I think teams have to start paying attention. And maybe the national media does to nto exactly how dangerous the Chargers excuse me. The Giants are gonna be against the Dodgers and and maybe in competing For the top of the National League West. I still don't know that they've got the firepower or the depth to get through a whole season and win the division. But what we've seen how they played these tough teams and and how Gabe Kapler's manages has been pretty darn good. And I know that Johnny Cueto wasn't great yesterday, but there are some silver linings and Kappler said it as much after the game that he was topping out of 94 95. In yesterday's game 94 a half I should say so he was throwing pretty hard and I don't know how long we expected him to go how deep we expected him to go. I think Best case scenario yesterday for quit. It would have been five innings and obviously didn't go that deep. Got batting around a little bit, gave up some bombs, but you want to make sure he's coming out healthy. You wanna make sure you're not over using hammer over extending him and so they were able to get through that with a serious win. Best case scenario going into that game yesterday after winning the game on Saturday in a couple of more big flies Austin Slater a huge one on Saturday afternoon four 156 ft. The mustache may is going pretty well for the Giants so far, your strength he came back, and he's got the stash to.

I mean, they don't have to say hail indoors on the market. The empire will everyone know so indoors on the mark. I'm not goingto. I'm gonna look at the same time. The Indians and the Indians played this game last year unless you give us your ever we want. We're not gonna deal. They may do that. Would you be absolutely stupid? And no one's going to give you what you want, because I know you're trying to sell, I think, And I'm just throwing this out there because I know the Dodgers minor league system better than others. I think the doctors would be willing to have Gavin Lux and Tony Gonsouland and a third player to get wind or sea and we've had this discussion. We've had this talk. I'm not Because I don't know what Gavin looks could end up being It doesn't matter. But it does not. But because I know how good Lindores I know that I can put secret. Third, I can resign. Justin Turner, put him in first input Maximum. See it Second off certain. I have a great infield of Turner months even door. And Seger and I have two former ale MBPs early Zombie candids inland, Oren Metz. True If I wasn't as good as I already am, If I needed something to put me over the top Okay, but I'm not. I don't. I'm tired of teams and teams do this all the time, and it pisses me off to no end. They win a championship. And generally speaking, they don't. But they don't put the pedal to the metal anymore. They go. They ease off they go. Hey, we won. I think more reason to put your pedal to metal More reason to show your dominance, but window is only so big. The Cubs didn't do that. The Cubs didn't add really anybody After they won the championship. They thought they were going in the World Series the next three or four years. They haven't been back since 2016. But the Dodgers are in a unique situation where I can't I I need to make my pitching better. I don't need my position Players better I, but I don't think they have the money. They say you know what? I can still make my pitching, But I could go out and sign forever. Bauer. That doesn't have anything to do with Linda or I know, But my thing is, I don't need to get rid of Lux to make myself better to win to win the World Series. I'm already there. But I'm already there. But I want to make myself so much better than know that nobody has a chance. But not only that. But I want to stop another team. I want to stop. The Braves were going out and getting Francis Golan Door or the Yankees from going in because you put Linda on the Yankees off. Suddenly, Yankees are better than we are. Look what the Yankees pitching is. I'm not worried about the Yankees again like you couldn't beat the race like the Dodgers Yankees have the money to go out and get Trevor Bauer. They did They have the money to go out and get Marcus Stroman if that's who they want, But the Yankees couldn't beat the Rays. I'm not worried about the game, but what I'm saying is they're going to make that improvement there as well. I need to keep as much as I want man door. I also need to keep him away. He's going to go to a team like the Angels. I'm fine with that, because he's not gonna be the guy who actually put Angels over the top. See, I'm not I don't. I only worry about my team and myself. I'm not worried about you getting him because that's what the Clippers did and look what I got to him the lip. The Clippers went out and got Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris and all those guys To keep them away from the Lakers without underwear. Everyone I knew that's where they got marquees Morris. They did it to keep him away from Lakers, But you didn't make yourself better. You're worried about what the Lakers were doing. That's what they're doing. Also, by the way, now with John Rhonda, would I get to the embassy to to kind of tie each other Titans together? Nothing is just going to be a strange off season. No matter how you look at it in every sport, it's It's gonna be O n ba free agency and draft that with time is going to be out. It's going to exciting And the funny thing is, is it sounds ridiculous. It's November 2nd. I mean, the season has ended, like three weeks ago, but The draft is window November 18 18 and then the season, maybe starting in less than a month, which means training camps have to start one a week. Everything they'll start probably beginning of December. They always want eight weeks. They want to give you eight weeks to let you know we're starting the season and give you without her having weeks. That's what they wear already beyond. There were seven weeks until December 20. That's why they put the date out there to say, Hey, this where we're going to start. I really think it's going to start in January. Unless they go. The problem is they start in January. They're going to say we'll start in January. It's gonna be a 50 game season. Nobody wants a 50 goes over. Don't go six sixties of 60 minutes. They've already floated the 50 game season idea that no one wants it..

But when you see the Red Sox saying now you know what we want to keep some money in our pocket. It's just it's it's admits you're cynical, or even the whole point of being a Red Sox or being rich Yankees. Don't go over it either. I never, You know, they talk about the Dodgers. You know the best team money can take what you talking about. The Dodgers are Are in line with the other teams that Khun spend, but the Dodgers a. You can hate the Dodgers all you want and this team Hey, can you do I know you D'oh. This team has drafted And they have developed either one guy, the one guy that one big luxury big ticket item is Mookie Betts. You go around that roster and you say Turner. Anybody could've had that guy Seeger. Great draft pick money over to Monty was let go. Yeah, Anybody could've had Muncie Yahtzee ur Muncie that will take him. We'll give him a will give me a shot. Peterson drafted Bellenger drafted Ned those air Ned Seeger. Yeah. Will Smith. Drafted Barnes, I think drafted ah, the area's drafted Bueller drafted. I made this team they have the ability to go out there and and spend money. But they draft and they develop. It is incredible with this team, and they got another guy Gavin Lux wasn't even on the team this year. It wouldn't play as well, so he sent it back down. He's a stud. I think it is. It's just like a pipeline These guys have going through. So yes, they do have the ability to go out there and spend if they want to, but the their ability To draft And then pick up free agents. You know, street free agents. Basically, anybody could have had and develop him. Give them the ability to go out there and get Mookie Betts because they had all this money that not I wasn't talking about you right? I was just saying that they There's a lot of people out there saying this this team, but they're not, and that's what everybody wants to Wants to try and be even They know, even the even the Yankees. You know, you look a lot of their young, talented young count that they bought into the system and they got the Chapman Chapman trade and they got a couple of luxury items out there, but nobody's don't like the Dodgers have have done it. "Oh, an interesting Look at numbers with Castellani. You get this pitch in tow Lux outside to Oh, no. Lefties have only a dozen hits off of him this year. In Nearly 60 a bat. So you're talking around a 200 batting average. They have five homers. And four other extra base hits. So Nine of the 12 hits have been extra base it swing and a miss by Lux, and it's two on one Which again Gets back to the conversation, but black and I had on buddies show About command because I guarantee you. Most of those extra base hits were On breaking pitches, and there's another breaking ball. That's going to go to the second deck by Gavin Lux, and it's for nothing. Dodgers No. We talked about the last five games at Coors Field. The offense that hadn't come around the starting pitching had certainly held up its in. But Castellani obviously struggling early tonight, in particular this second inning with that. Second two run homer. Tough, Tio learn on the job in the big leagues. They're not going to cut you any slack and When you Have allowed 11 homers in less than 36 innings of pitching your You're not executing the way you think you're capable certainly, And your team wants you to accomplish. Gavin Lux was over his last 14. Before that home run. Swinging at the first pitch, popping it up behind home plate. Austin Barnes the catcher, but it goes behind the screen for a strike. Or want Barnes. He checked his swing, and the count evens one on one. Swing and a foul out of play. Well retired the Dodgers in order in the first inning, but Max Muncy. With a leadoff walk in His second inning. Two homers in a double have accounted for the four runs ball in the dirt to win, too. And the home runs. Former Dodgersgeneral manager Former Giants assistant general manager doing some bang up media work in Southern California teaching at pepper dine A man who is very, very busy and he's with us on the human guests line to talk opening day. Hey, Ned. Hey, Larry, In a tradition, you know? Oh, man, you know, it's good to hear your voice. I we were talking about opening day memories. One of the ones that came up, Ned. Was 2002. And that you were there for that. You would just sign Barry Bonds to that five year, $90 million contract. And he's up there hit two home runs David Bell, it went deep. Laban went eight that day, and the Giants crushed Kevin Brown and the Dodgers 9 to 2. What are your memories of it? I remember sitting with Brian and sit together, watching that game and thinking we had a chance to have a special team that year, and as it turned out, we did not quite a specialist to tend to 12 to 14. But very special group and that was David Bell. I think that was his only year with the Giants, but really Akiba former force and, of course, Berry coming up that historic earlier before. It was always good to open against the Dodgers. You know it was. Ah, let's get started right here with the team. Me. We always seem to be chasing pair wise, but For a long time dominated and sealed Well, let's talk about the Dodgers. They are in some ways. Consider the class of baseball right now. They haven't won a World Series title since I graduated High school in 1988 but they are projected to win the most games this year. They're incredibly deep. Uh, this young kid Gavin Lux, who's a superstar in the making at second base, you know, wasn't 100% of beginning a camp And instead, they said, you know what? Go back more seasoning and will turn Second over to Chris Taylor and Munsey and Kiki Hernandez Howard that how do you see the Dodgers coming into this year? It seems like that they're in a full world, Siri's or bust type mode. I agree. They obviously everybody got almost to the end of spring training 1.0 and then took four months away, and when they came back, they came back and tremendous condition. Both mentally and physically for the task in hand. Um I don't know when people say this all the time in sports. I can't remember past. Well, I can't remember the last team that had as much depth. As this group. Does, Gavin lectures used as you properly build a future great and a MLB player sent down to the secondary can't the other day They get three guys that can play second base, and, uh and a lot of them would play course were screaming when its teeth a Kris Taylor match. Munson former. They just got so much death, and then you add the D H to the national, which I don't know what tune that is better prepared for the B itch. Then they are, I think gave Rod which every day one of his challenges as the manager was OK. Who do I sit today? Well, the PH gives him four more. That's the book. How's position players? And today they asked us to put together 30 man roster. You put down 35 names in a heartbeat. And now you got a tux struggle trying to get down to 30 there, sometimes at 25 they struggle getting 30 but from the opposite direction. I think the team is built to win, but it's the best team in the National League. Winter is the best team in baseball, and that last week about God will tell us that on paper, the Dodgers probably should easily win their eighth straight National League Western Division title. But Ned, these games are played on paper, and I was just looking at this The other day. If you go back to his recently is 2018 just a couple seasons ago, and you looked at the Dodgers. They were still loaded, Maybe not quite as deep as they are now, but they still had a huge talent base and they went 30 and 30 in the 1st 60 games in 2018 so As much a cz we'd like to say, You know, this is the way it's going to go mixing the pandemic and all the new regulations and the D H and the three batter minimum rule and all the changes that were going to see this year. On then maybe even inject a little bit of pressure. If you don't get off to the start. You want anything could really happen here, huh? Well. I can't disagree completely with you, but but I don't see that happening to this group. As I watched pitching throughout the league the way they grind out of bets. The games are too long for the opposing pitching staff most of the night. They cannot make consistently not just throw strikes, which, for some young pitchers is a struggle. But the throw effective strikes and and I just I just don't see this team. Getting off to a 30 30 start to 60 games. That year. They were coming out of the World Series appearance that I had taken the seven games with Houston. I think any team that does that. I think they do have a little bit of a letdown the next season because they look ahead and they see six straight months, 162 dams and then realize that their history is really going to be written the last couple days of September week of September and the month of October. When you look at this a 16 game home stretch, which is one of those today the National League that every teen fashion West, you get five teams tied thirst in theory today when a 60 game sprint to the finish I don't see them getting off to a cup starts. I see them dominant As I looked through that schedule. I don't know how many times are really going to get beat. That's the way it is one and then they won't have David Price. But and and what's the deal with the kid? The lefty Maia's? He not. Is he not starting the year because I mean his stuff. I saw him just in an inter squad game to the day's thrown 99 miles an hour. He's dirty. He's going to be an excellent pitch Any picture? What? Last year? He is right handed. He could pitch out of the pen or start. They've got enough depth to give him a chance to continue to work on delivery was a little bit inconsistent release point Bring in a squad games and during the 31 exhibition of parents that he had a little bit inconsistent with his release, pointing with swatted that's gotta get tightened up a bit, but they've got they've got time to do it, and I think that he is nasty. He is almost like a A little bit of there's a little bit of Walker viewer. Dustin, May we got a little bit of a great tomb has got a little bit of edge to him, and he got up a mean fastball, and I'm really very slider. So Just a matter of time before you got him in the next pan later began, perhaps because he's got the courage to do that also. Ah, rotation. What do you think it's going to take? You've been with both organizations. What's it going to take for the Giants are a rich team, the Giants have they own their ballpark outright. It mints money. They have this Mission Rock project going south of the ballpark. It's one of the biggest real estate deals in the history of the city of San Francisco. I mean, the Giants ownership group is enormously wealthy as wealthy is almost any on DH. And so what is it going to take from the Giants perspective in your mind to get to the point where they are running neck and neck with the Dodgers? Because they should they should have. It really should be a baseball. Question because the finances I don't want to say they're a push, but the Giants have money. You know what? It's a great point. And I was there back in the candlestick days and back in the back, then was called Paco Park. I spent 11 years in the city five at Candlestick and then six at the new place. It was a new place, so I've seen the evolution of it and you know, it's it's really cool to hear what you say about another mission Rock product. Project and what that means to the city in the organization. I've seen them grow on become magnificent, and it's in its grandeur, and its success is in a lot of ways. Now..

"Very happy to have already source of Alex Sports and a few minutes ago. I threw this out. I think the dodgers did not wanna spend the dough they offer just enough for the Garrett Kohl's from Ucla and right here in southern California and for the domes to say no agree or disagree agree with. I did hear from a of a friend of mine. Cleveland says that they're in talks right now with the Indians regarding French door and But you know Cleveland wants to very high crime young guys that are you know really coveted by the dodgers so this may be another way of placating dodger off the dodger fan but saying we were out there we were trying but you know we just couldn't quite do. It could be the whole deal there. I'm not dealing maze. The pitcher GA Gavin Lux to second base. Then doors a fine player. I think he's thirty years of Bauge. I'm going youngsters and again. The the dodgers say they offer three hundred million Yankees. Got Him for three Hundred Twenty Four Garrett Cole case another twenty four million over nine years. That's the three million. A year really doesn't matter dieters would get three hundred and fifty million dollars a year from spectrum to blackout most most of southern California television already. A galaxy wait a minute. What about my angel? You'RE GONNA get a starting pitcher. They go out and get rundown down good job in the free agent market but what about number one and number two starter or four or five even.
