"Phoenix handed them their butts the other night last week like Brooklyn is flawed. Milwaukee is just getting up off the depth. I think he won 7 in a row now, so we'll Milwaukee might be trying to get things together. But if those are the top two teams, you aren't light years away from those guys, right? You aren't just to the point of like, well, we can't compete. Stolen the town. And then you've got the second tier, Washington. Okay, do you really trust the west's long term? We don't know. Miami, Miami got blasted last night at home against Cleveland. I don't add a bio in play, but still, I think all the other guys did and Cleveland had to have sex then. So I think the east is kind of wide open here. The Cavaliers are much better than we thought. The pacers are up and down. The raptors can't stay healthy. The 76ers we saw them last night. They don't look the same without Ben Simmons and they desperately need better point guard plays because Maxie is now struggled. Like every team has a flaw. So if I'm Brad, I look at this roster. Root for wish for good health and get another body shooter in there and I think you have a chance to make the Conference Finals. I think the team, okay, can we beat Brooklyn? Like, it didn't look like it last week, but I think if you take some things that you learned and try to, you know, just try to make it the best. And just after all the Nixon and the Knicks are up and down. So everybody's got their problems and the east. There's no perfect team in the east. There is no Phoenix. There's no golden stain in yeast. Right? Like, so the Celtics, I'm Brad. I'm like, why not? We can't just blow off this year because we think we're getting Bradley Beal or Zach lavine. And I said, you mentioned Chicago. I'm sorry, Chicago. Like, they look like they're going to be something. So, but you know, the east is crazy. But the songs have a chance. If you look at the east, it's not the west. The Celtics, there's no set. There's no 17 game winning streak in the east..

"What's up, everybody? Welcome in another new addition to Celtic speed, of course, you know, a lot of things to get into obviously on the heels of what was a really good, really important win over the sixers who won't spend too much time really dissecting that one specifically, especially with such a big road trip on the horizon here for this team 5 games out west, which could I'm not gonna say it's gonna make or break the season or anything. We're still early on in the year, but it is pivotal obviously to the early year's success of this club by madam Kaufman and valenti here as always. Gary washburn, good friend of the program joining us once again. Gary, what's going on? Hey guys, how's it going? Good to talk to you. I just can't believe it's December man. Have that happen. Yeah, I know, I know. December 1st, or what? Second question. Yeah, Christmas is a ride around the corner and then another new year. So, yeah. Luckily, gladly 21 wasn't as tough as 20 in terms of just a lot of things. So hopefully we're getting out of this situation. Some of the situations that we're in, do you have a nice Thanksgiving? Yeah, it was great. It was great. Yeah, good. So yeah, they would everybody else did eat watch watch football about it. Nice. Well, yeah, I mean, obviously everybody's obsessed with looking forward. You know, what I've certainly noticed and this is just as a sports fan. This is a unique to self expands. And or even necessarily the Boston region, but I feel like there's a certain element of it here in this area with these pro teams because we've become so obviously title town over the last couple of decades that it's sort of become entitled town as well for all of the fans that it's a lot of looking ahead, not so much, you know, living in the moment and appreciating sort of the process of things because I think especially self expand specifically, people are sort of tired, you know, tired of the waiting and the promise and the man this looks good on paper. It doesn't translate on the court and everything that happened under Danny and Brad to now email and a couple of all star borderline all NBA caliber players on this team trying to take everything to the next level and yet here we are, again, early December with an important road trip on the way. And this is, you know, it's a middling group. Evan and I were just talking about it before the show. You know, we've talked about it a lot on past shows. Evans saying, you know, maybe just it's got to take time. You know, we all want to change you talk to us about the need for change so many times on this show. Well, the change is here. Are we having trouble giving good time? Yeah, I mean, I think there's an impatient. I think the.

"Authority. He's not gonna send the authority. That's not yeah. He's not gonna succumb to authorities. No, Gary, I think this is it. People like Kyrie, don't see all these problems that created until they're out of the game. When they're out of the door, now it's like, oh, damn, I did that. And I pissed this person off and I didn't do this. You don't miss your water. You don't miss your water till you will run dry. What happened to our half of the ally? When the game got you out? Over Kyrie's lifetime. People have lined up the kisses ass. And even with the Celtics, when he was here, there are a lot of things they want him to do from a public relationship standpoint. Kyrie said no. I don't want to do it. And the Celtics did, okay. All right, 'cause we want to sign you as a free agent again. We only keep you happy. Until somebody steps into his ass, like, and I think the person has to step in his ass has to be somebody like the ring. Somebody who is better than him. But Kevin Durant says something to him. That might resonate. Because we know when LeBron says something to him, that just pissed in the hell off. Yeah, I think no, I think that Kyrie Irving at the end of the day looked at LeBron like, I'm just as good as you, if not now. Yes he did. Stand about the rent, he said, that dude can make every shot I can make and more. So he respects him a little bit more on the offensive end. I think with, I think if you look at Kyrie, okay, he's always like, I think the level of life he was the number one overall pick in 2011. So he's ten years in the league now. He's 29. Okay, there is no guarantee everybody is going to be LeBron or Kobe, God bless his soul, playing to the 36 37, okay? He's a Kyrie now as an off injured player, okay, and becoming more of a headache to organizations. Now, Cleveland looked at Boston and said, see, y'all thought, you know, you said we were talking about, and now Brooke Boston, you're saying the Brooklyn. See? Now we're talking about. So now using this third organization, you know, this is what remember, this is supposed to be his happy place. I'm coming home. That's fan. I'm near my family. All these, hey, it all came together. I'm playing with my friend, Kevin Durant. And my other buddy, Deandre Jordan, this is I finally found peace. How long did peace last? He missed most of his first season with his shoulder injury..

"The song gonna get into <Speech_Male> another opponent's face, <Speech_Male> you know? Guys <Speech_Male> like Dennis Schroeder, <Speech_Male> guys like Jason Richardson. <Speech_Male> These guys will get into people's <Speech_Male> faces. Maybe <Speech_Male> that is that <Speech_Male> sort of <Speech_Male> energy <Speech_Male> will be contagious because <Speech_Male> that's exactly what this team <Speech_Male> needs. I would <SpeakerChange> love to see <Speech_Male> that from Jay Leno. Or <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> they need to punch them <Speech_Male> out first, <Speech_Male> not be so <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> and then, you know, <Speech_Male> start these games off, <Speech_Male> listen, <Speech_Male> you gotta <Speech_Male> you were embarrassed last <Speech_Male> year when 36 and <Speech_Male> 36, <Speech_Male> you got <Speech_Male> dumped out the playoffs <Speech_Male> in 5 games. <Speech_Male> Start this schedule. <Speech_Male> That first game <Speech_Male> in New York <Speech_Male> punched the Knicks in <Speech_Male> the mouth. <Speech_Male> Let's start out <Speech_Male> two and four, <Speech_Male> put <Speech_Male> make a statement <Speech_Male> to begin this season. <Speech_Male> Be mad. <Speech_Male> That's the worst <Speech_Male> thing I liked when <Speech_Male> it was like Jay Crowder <Speech_Male> and Marcus Morris. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> They came <Speech_Male> into the arena like <Speech_Male> the max <Speech_Male> Celtics did. <Speech_Male> Like, where <Speech_Male> Boston <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> we brothers in green <Speech_Male> and we hit a kick <Speech_Male> your ass. Like <Speech_Male> be affiliate in that <Speech_Male> playoff series. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Those teams did. <Speech_Male> We in here <Speech_Male> in LA <Speech_Male> and Staples <Speech_Male> Center, we <Speech_Male> here <Speech_Male> in Portland. We here <Speech_Male> in Utah. We <Speech_Male> had to kick your ass. <Speech_Male> We're Celtics. <Speech_Male> And we got fans <Speech_Male> here because <Speech_Male> travel <Speech_Male> well. You <Speech_Male> got that mystique. <Speech_Male> You had that aura <Speech_Male> that confidence. <Speech_Male> That's swag. <Speech_Male> They're selling animal <Speech_Male> swag in those couple <Speech_Male> years. Marcus <Speech_Music_Male> Hess wag, <Speech_Male> kimba, <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> Gordon was <Speech_Male> always hurt like they <Speech_Male> didn't have swag. <Speech_Male> They didn't <Speech_Male> have, you know, <Speech_Male> like they just didn't <Speech_Male> have it. <Speech_Male> And they've <Speech_Male> got to get it. Like, <Speech_Male> Jalen's got swag, <Speech_Male> Jason's got <Speech_Male> to have that <Silence> like <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> focus on the <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> officials <Speech_Male> toward <Speech_Male> getting in his <Speech_Male> opponent's ass. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Trying to be not <Speech_Male> trying to be like, <Speech_Male> you know, who <Speech_Male> would direct a <Speech_Male> compete with that or <Speech_Male> hang out with them <Speech_Male> off the floor <SpeakerChange> over <Speech_Male> the summer routine <Speech_Male> USA, <Speech_Male> but try to <Silence> take their <SpeakerChange> heart out <Speech_Male> on the floor. <Speech_Male> I mean, you're <Speech_Male> right because <Speech_Male> you think about <Speech_Male> the great players in this <Speech_Male> league. All <Silence> of them have had <Speech_Male> that in them. <Speech_Male> Even as they <Speech_Male> say the greatest, <Speech_Male> when Michael Jordan, <Speech_Male> how many times <Speech_Male> we've seen Michael Jordan <Speech_Male> step up to <Speech_Male> somebody on the other <Speech_Male> team said, I'll kick <Speech_Male> your ass right <Speech_Male> now. Or <Speech_Male> with Reggie Miller, <Speech_Male> Reggie Miller, <Speech_Male> small as <Speech_Male> he was, wasn't <Silence> afraid to get up and <Speech_Male> somebody's face. <Speech_Male> That is <Speech_Male> what I want <Speech_Male> those two guys <Speech_Male> to and I'm <Silence> telling you, if <Speech_Male> I saw <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> Jalen do that <Speech_Male> one time, <Speech_Male> I think I think <Speech_Male> I'd fall out of <Speech_Male> my seat because <Speech_Male> I just don't. <Speech_Male> I mean, <Speech_Male> I don't see <Speech_Male> that. I mean, <Speech_Male> I just don't <Speech_Male> see that. I think <Speech_Male> he's one of my favorite <Speech_Male> players. But <Speech_Male> to get to that next <Speech_Male> level, he's going to have to he's going to have to kick some ass and take some names. I agree.

"Well, how about this? How about when I saw Robert Williams and I love him as a player when he was hugging Kyrie's ass like he was a long lost relic. Exactly. How is that? This man just came on your court. Stopped on the damn leprechaun until y'all to go to hell and you hugged him like your next sandwich. So you get upstairs and he Brian piccolo. Yeah, I mean, really. That was really upset me about the whole Kyrie thing. You got Kevin Garnett, talked about. He said, wait a minute, cornbread. You and me are the only ones that got mad when it came to what Kyrie Irving did. And last thing is a thousand times where everybody hear me. Carrie Irving was the, from a skills standpoint, the best guard, the subject I've ever had. At that position. I don't think nobody's going to argue that. Skill set is ridiculous. But what he did and it pissed me off. When I saw him go to the leprechaun, stomp on it like he was wiping shit off his shoes, I'm like, are you serious like he mad at Boston for something? And nobody said anything? No, that's the thing. I don't see it. Like, I just think you're right. Max, these dudes have to take the next step and be some dogs. Like data needs any more of a dog, Brown, especially 'cause Brown got that dog inning. He's in Atlanta kid. Like, you can't be pat and Chris Middleton on the back after you knock your guy down. On a breakaway, and he oh, it's all good. Hell no. Hey. This wasn't exactly the look on my face. I didn't deal like this, so I'm like, is that right? That's what I'm saying. The next time down to happen. They need to get tougher. I'm not talking about being so Richardson. Well, I'm talking about being respected. And I think we lost the respect of the rest of the league and the rest of the east didn't respect them, especially after that Miami series is mine took them out, took their will took their soul out of their chest and won in 6 games and they were the less talented team to sell to a more talented team in S series. We all know it. It might be new it might be played harder with better coach. That's why I wanted series in 6. You let Tyler hero go for 37 off the bench. Anywhere caused made him a stock..

"Your lead dog. You can look at your own team. Look at the ring. The ramp is a little crazy. He's a lead dog. You lead dog has to be Larry Bird when he played when I played with Larry Bird. He wasn't going to win no fight, but he wasn't going back away from that neither. That's what they need. That's what I'm talking about. 48 called out Durant and the playoffs like call them a bitch. Like, that's what the Celtics need more than going. In New York, but Jason, Jason Seth, I was Jason and I know he looks up to KD and that's you go off on this way more than me, this AAU air, where these dudes go to these camps and then take pictures of workout with these guys. So tailoring has been no one Kevin Durant since he was 14 years old and then remember Durant like what was the injury died that is me, remember in the playoffs? First of all, with the elbows. You know coming back for game and game two and like tell them didn't check their rant for that. Like, no, okay, and you'll get a if anybody knows, don't get under me on a three. Like you trying to be trying to break my ankle? It needs to take that step. That's why this is a little different. Isaiah and magic were buddies. They played in the playoffs and what did they become? Hugging in the mix. Yeah, they hated each other. Yeah. And that's what I mean when you when my lead dog has to be a little crazy. You knew when Detroit played their best player Isaiah was crazy. You knew that they had little crazy on their team. And I'm not saying that. Tatum has to punch somebody every time, but I'm just saying, oh, you do is go up and check a dude. You know what I'm saying? Well, I mean by checking to do this. Yeah. And so we're all understanding here on this podcast. It's something to you. Your line should be if you do that shit again. No journey after the game, none of that. Stop that. You are Tatum and Brad has been better than ever all eyes on the gridiron as teams on back on for another football season. As always, better line is.

"Wild card teams. There's no real Toronto. Toronto, what do they what do we know about them? You know, they still got a good core of their team. There's a lot of wild card. There's no team in the east that you look and go, that they suck. They're bad. This is a couple, but yeah. It's going to be better. They're going to be young, Cleveland is going to be young, but they're going to be better with that backcourt. You know, I don't look at any team and just go, man, they're, you know, they're just bad. I mean, they're going to I mean, as a self as far as last year, any team can speak up and beat you. So that's lost what three times in the pistons last year. I mean, twice to the Cavaliers. So and I don't think any team of the east besides want to say Toronto really took a step back and were like, okay, they're not as good. But when are we going to talk about the elephants in the room? Hold on. We'll get there in a second, but let me ask you this Gary real quick. New era, new cultures, you know, we've been talking about going into the Celtics season, but head coach, you made dogs. He took it one step further, right? He's talking about electing two brand new captains of the Celtics. Gary, if your email, which two players are you picking? Well, Jalen and Jason, thank you. Why is this like not the automatic answer for everybody? Max, who are you picking? Are you two guys? If someone goes, they go. Like it's their team now. Kimber gone, Gordon gone, Kyrie going like giving the keys. That's dude on that team, besides those two in terms of, you know, last year you could say it was, you know, kimba had a responsibility because he was a max guy. They got rid of kimba hours of compliment now, I don't know who else. You could say Marcus? Well, that would be my pick. I would have to have my emotional leader in there some place as a captain. I'd have to have Marcus smart because of his ability to show him that he could be more mature in the court. He had a bad year last year. Well, he was implemented. Of course, shot against New Orleans. He lost it a couple of times on the court last year. You're not lost in like, you know, malice the palace lawsuit, but he lost it. A couple of mental really mistakes and some things that. I want to see, I want to see Marcus at 27 years old now, you know, in the senior member of the Celtics act like listen, this is my and he got re up. He's got his money. The ain't got another complaint about. Like, I want to see him step take that step and be a leader as a point to knowing him later. I think Jalen is a leader. I think Jason is someone who's turning quietly into a more vocal player. You can tell he's more comfortable in his.

"So I liked the changes that the Soviets waved to bring to this table. I think we saw how Brad felt about the Ross. Everybody kind of questioned whether he was going to be dedicated and loyal to the guides that have been there, the Carson Edwards, shimmy o'jays, the tacos, the waters, and quite honestly he wasn't. I mean, he knew, hey, your great guy, but I got to go. I got to move you. Right. He's gone. Carson, who, you know, tried his best, but just everybody kind of thought he might be Isaiah like that he would be that little man off the bench who could line it up. That never worked. And unfortunately, I mean, he's not even in a league now live his way. And then taco and Tremont nice guys, you root for them. I know Tremont, I think is in I can't remember what can't be said. I think it was in Houston. He used to suddenly team have been Milwaukee picked him up. Yeah, there's some believe to me with the tacos in Cleveland. But I think Brad kind of understood. I don't think he I don't think he liked that roster last year. I think he looked at his bench and then he looked at the bench Brooklyn and Milwaukee, and he saw veterans. He saw a car. He saw guys who had a role. Hey, my role is 13 minutes to rebound. The PJ Tucker's and, you know, the Blake Griffin's guys who know their role, no, they're not stars anymore or know that they're contributing to winning as opposed to contributing to an all star team. And he looked at his bench and he sees, you know, shimmy and Carson and, you know, devonte green and, you know, and I know grant's back regret. Well, he doesn't have anybody to counter that with. He definitely changed it..

That's what I'm saying. No, I agree. I agree. You can't help me. But how are you going to roll like that? Yeah, that was max's go to line. That was Mexico. I agree max when Chris Middleton knocked the hell out of Jason going for a basket and Jalen Connor came up to him and then at the end they were like laughing and patting each other like, no, no, that's your money, man. You ain't no more money, man like that. Both of them got to have more of a mean streak on the floor. Marcus has that Main Street, but I don't know, but here's what Doc Rivers once said, the philosopher, there's Doc Rivers. You need at least one crazy guy on your team. You can see that mortgage.

"Up. I come on, man. Like, come on. Well, where was the logo? West was like sick. In west was like west might have been like, you know, west might have been like 63 at the time or something. Okay, he said he was ill. The shack doesn't show up. That was the funny part. He did not play the All-Star Game that 'cause it was me. Yeah. And yeah, and then you look and you see the history. Like you just never gonna get that again. So it's a fascinating thing, but we can think of we can tweak and bring up 35 guys who could be qualified for that. Let's say, we haven't indeed. You know, what about those guys? Yeah. And then some of the guys from the early 90s king is a guy. You know, Grant Hill kind of shaky, because of his injuries. But there's guys who were like in the middle Alonzo mourning, you know, could be could be on that list. Obviously, we're gonna put in we're gonna go with Duncan's Duncan's in. Yeah. Well, it's fascinating. That whole three, I mean, Manu. Z in? Yeah, I don't know. Bottle of paper might be like questionable, what, like, you know, you just look, you look at the class three, you LeBron, Bello, way. You put boss on there. You know, you know, that's debatable. I mean, there's a lot of guys who are gonna be very interested in see if they make this list. And then we are the courage, the hardens the Durant, the Lebrons, like all that, you know, we all know they're in. So someone's getting their spot taken unfortunately. We have somebody, you know, I just don't know if I can give it on the Luca thing the more I think about it. I mean, I know he's all world and gonna be. That would be typical, so it was projection, just like Shaq. Shaq was dominating the league at that time, but he was only 24. And it was a shorter list, which is even more remarkable. You put Luca on there. Yeah, yeah, they put Shaq in over like we said, Dominique and artist Gilmore. Right. In those days. So it would be fascinating to see who makes this list. Who from very current NBA makes this list the under 30 and then is there guys that were omitted or were young in 96 97? You know, because obviously you're going to go with Kobe, you're going to go with, I mean, it's Ray Allen is up for pierce. All those guys, whoo. You have plenty of people reading on bleacher report and everybody else is going to put out their list. I'm, but I'm looking forward to, you know, seeing yours obviously. Yeah, that was something that's something I would definitely tackle. It would seem at this point weird to go back to talking about this yourself. So, Evan, anything you'd like to add before we get out of here? I guess the only question I have is, can we take anything away from.

"Evan valenti, Gary washburn of The Boston Globe by madam Kaufman and Gary, you have not been on with us since May. So at that point in time, there were a lot of things with this team. They were still, you know, you know, seeking the playoffs at that point. So we were dissecting are they going to make it out of the play internment? What roster changes need to happen? And as the front office need an overhaul, what needs to happen on Brad Stevens bench? Needless to say much has occurred since we last spoke. So we can get into all that, but here's where I want to begin. I don't expect you to know this, but it seems there's just obviously bet online is a sponsor of this show. There is no safer bet in America right now, Gary, then the fact that after Evan and I record a show with whomever it is is kind enough to join us about two hours later, something significant with the Celtics breaks. So do you have anything you'd like to get ahead of right now that might be coming up later this afternoon or tonight? No, no. I think I've heard of. No. It's getting to be ridiculous at this point. We recorded last week. We stopped in an hour later the rob Williams extension was done, making the entire episode kind of move because we didn't talk about anything at all. So just really stinks. What was something the week before, too? There's been the Josh Richardson stuff. There's been signings with coaches. There's been a whole bunch of things that we've missed by ours. And it's just really annoying. So just trying to get in front of it, Gary, just trying to get in front of the story and we want to text any sources or anything just while we're on so we can make sure that we really knock this out of the park before we're done. Sorry, nothing is no. I have no news to report unfortunately. Nothing imminent. So how, I mean, we'll get to the Olympics in a little bit. I know you were there. Generally speaking, how's.

"The one that's, that's it. No, none of us. Have I met him Kaufman welcoming, you know, Evan Valenti. And of course, Gary Washburn. Good friend of this program, longtime Boston, Globe, described columnist and covers, not just the C's to the entire league, and, of course, the cells, most closely Gary, how are you independent of watching this team play this year? Everybody's good for me off, you know, for slowly, another pandemic. And and we're starting to open up a little bit, so yeah, I mean everything personally is, is great. So yeah, that's month, that's all I got for that but and then it's all downhill from here, right? Yeah, that's that's the good part for the Celtics not-so-good no losses and five out of six to COG. Games left in the regular season. We now know obviously this team is locked into the play and tournament which means maybe it will go to the playoffs, maybe it won't. We'll find out the 7th seat is most likely though that is not even as we chat page. Now definitive you still got the Hornets the Pacers in the mix Washington Chicago or battling for the final play in spot but your top six and at least the order that it sits right now it could change see things want the ceiling wise, but the Sixers net box that is the top three clearly in the East and around that, the Hawks, the Heat. And the Knicks Celtics as we know I mean the seasons effectively over guys, they're not going anywhere. They're not doing anything. Even if they do escape the play-in round and inevitably they will. That's how the season has gone. They just, you know, do do the unthinkable, do the unpredictable, so they'll get out of the play and tournament. They'll go to the postseason and off. Maybe shock people just for giggles and win around, but they're not doing anything noteworthy. As we know because Jaylen Brown is he's done, he has had his wrist surgery enza a remarkable year for home. Both on and off the floor. And you know, when you consider obviously everything his role and in Social initiatives and everything that has happened over the course of the year plus, but specifically basketball, it was a dynamic. It was a great year of growth for him but this team I guess in some ways Gary, I don't know if you felt this way, maybe you're a little less emotionally invested as someone who covers the team that a regular fact would be obviously. But, you know, there's an element of once that injury news came out. Once I saw it, I just kind of went. You know what, good and not good. Obviously the Jalen is is hurt and has to go through this page, all the recovery, like that whole part sucks. But just simply the fact of now, I'm not going to low myself into believing that this team can just magically flip that switch. Get healthy and active and go on some kind of run the playoffs. We now know that there's no Mirage coming. This team is what it has been all season long and whatever's going to happen. This offseason is going to happen, but nothing is going to be reactionary wage. To this team somehow magically getting to the Conference Finals..

"Celtics need to win to 3 in these games to get there safe a little bit of face and gets a respect back. We'll see what he brings but I think I'm some I think some of these Superstars are saw Stars All-Stars that you deal with and you get to know are very confident. They never lose it and there's like Kimba who will show that he's lost confidence and I think Kim was lost confidence. I think he's frustrated. I think he feels like I should be able to hit any open shot. I take he's not getting them. I mean they were so many times in New Orleans where he could have turned the tide of that game and stopped a run or brought the Celtics back or her gave him a seven-point lead when we was for and divorce was charging you missed. It opened you missed it open 3, and then he takes that three-pointer when they're down three after Brandon Eagle hit the go-ahead 3 just quit three myths like dead. You know, he was what he went to 4:17 from 3 until that fourth quarter in Dallas. So what are we dealing with? Are we dealing with that Kimba? Are we dealing with the fourth quarter Kimba in Dallas? And will he ever off when when he's just up and down? I don't think that helps his team. I don't think it helps the team when you don't know whether to depend on him for scoring and for that type of like spark plugs and maybe it's going to take another month. I don't want to put a tab and we've done washed. There's a young people say, I don't want to say that yet because I could take another month for his knee in his Durance to get back to where he's like. Hey, he's back to pre cuz if you look at his first two months in Boss increased, press before like that like up to mid January from November to mid January. I mean he was he had a 39-point game. I mean Kimba was dead. All Star Kim, so it's hard to believe like he just lost all of that. I think it's confidence though. And I think that he's gotta try to get it back with her. It'd be just hitting the gym talking to him by colleges whatever like, you know, whatever it takes for him to get that Swagger back that.

"And he has set on his hands. He sat on his hands his offseason. They signed Jeff T and they signed Tristan Thompson on the you know, T equals decent last night. I don't, you know, take the problem to me if I might as well if I was otherwise was fine as a and Thomas like and if he has faced and find you tried watching the change would enjoy that see his face until they watch Isaiah Thomas triple over his face and watch Jeff King play a single minute of a game. Just to react a terrible, you know speak with starting last night because he's afraid of the Defence the frame to get blocked. So we quick arms in an air Ball Z because he's so afraid of getting blocked at the rim, and I said, I like I think Jeff had him. I mean it was good in Atlanta and the first-ever last if you look at his numbers in Minnesota for you, I traded back to Atlanta. He was good with 14 points a game and he was a solid player so I can understand look at those numbers saying okay, he can bring that to us. So if I'm the Celtics but it hasn't worked. But are you going to just hold on to him? Like what are you going to do here? Like Danny? I thought said on his hands and we can all talk about the Gordon Hayward, Indiana thing, you know. When you sit on his hands, I mean Indies him Kevin Pritchard minute, they were talking and said they were closed but you know, it didn't work out. So, you know the sitting on your hands thinking it done cuz this is the raw since you have this is this is the Rossi rolling out on the nightly basis and it ain't scared. Nobody ain't nobody looking in Boston going Lord, besides paid him and brown and you know, they're not they're not, you know, losing sleep at night preparing for shimmy and carsen Edwards in jail T and Guy, they're not it's not they're not they're embarrassing last night was embarrassing. I mean, they obviously know, you know, most of the blame falls on Danny who owns it, you know, next level is going down to the players because they're the ones on the floor, you know, attempting to execute obviously the game plans. Hopefully not tuning out Brad Stevens, but obviously you brought that up and that's you know, if in fact they are that To me is a real concern because I don't think it's easy to just tune a guy back in. I think that's sort of the you know, beginning of the end where things are really problematic when when that reaches, you know, especially your your Star level guys tuning out the head coach and Brad, let's remember just a few months ago was extended. This guy's got like four years or something like whenever yeah anyway, but to me the two-door cars is the effort not losing its Washington the Washington game that was like they went through the motions. They let Bill get comfortable. They like, I mean, it's like all of what you don't do with the Wizards. Let me.

"I was like, yeah, I'll take my chances on Boston. So much those it's a it's a time for reassessment for management for the coaching staff. Like what is Evan Turner doing? Is he having any type of impact in this coping staff? Like we don't know. We don't know we don't get to see we don't get go to practice. Unfortunately because the pandemic but it's a lot of birth. To issue with this thing. It's it's one of the weirdest seasons and it's been you know, obviously roller coaster ride for Boston and you know, there's there's certain, you know, slices of blame pot pie to go around I'm with you Danny I think deserves motion. I think there are times where you can you can definitely blame Brad for some stuff, you know, he's on out there shooting the basketball I can only do so much. You know, I always come back to this is more of a roster issue than anything else. And as you look around in my my issue is, you know, because of those those playing spots you have more people now that are incentivised to try and wage playoffs. I give the Sacramento Kings who have Harrison Barnes and I think Harrison Barnes everybody's favorite person did to fantasize trading for now, that would be a real help for this game cuz you could put the ball in the floor wage give the basket and do more things to just stand in the corner, you know, so you look at the way this team could maybe improve there are ways, but then there are You know in Sacramento going to try and make the playoffs, you know is Chicago, you know with with you know, maybe a fan too young but they're they're hanging around. In fact beans and All Star want to show Zack who's got a better record Celtic site. So so what would be a seller? That's right. My father in New York and Charlotte are all above like this is really been terrible. If you really think about it like the Bulls are like the Bulls like the subjects went to Chicago and just kind of one pulled away. Now, the Bulls have won five straight. The Bulls are playing good bought like you're right Evan life. I'm looking at Sacramento is three back from the temp spot. Okay. It's going to be a war for that Tim spot, Oklahoma City. Do you think oh, they're sellers right there 2 and 1/2 back for that ten 6:42 last night. Yeah, forty-two. Houston is 3 and 1/2 at the only team that you're like they ain't got a shot. It's Minnesota because they're Minnesota's 9 back from they're not they're not getting to the tents. Okay, you look at the the Tim spot now in the East the Detroit. Holy six pack of their terrible Washington is off half-back white Orlando's to back..

"So something I was thinking about Gary just yesterday. I had a chat with a guy. I'm sure you know also has covered the NBA for quite a while and that's back on Phillips who was with Deadspin now is chatting with him the other day and we're just kind of going back and forth about the NBA in general and talked about the Celtics a little bit and he's like an old by the way, they're at him. Is there a team in NBA history that feeds off of One Singular Championship more than the 08 Celtics which is you know, there isn't wage isn't there just isn't you know, it's and that's certainly the national View and a lot of it is because you know so many of these guys perk most recently or in the media obviously Pierce and kg has been in the media plenty's got the book out. Now, the way it looks awesome. I want to read it but it's it's true there but there I don't bring that up to like dump on 08. I mean, that's one of my great memories as a sports fan. I love that team but there is obviously an element of of living in the past with this organization that is has just been the case and and to the point where it's almost kind of problematic I think and you know, I I heard I don't know if you listen to what Groesbeck, you know on on The Sports Hub yesterday and and didn't say a whole lot that was Earth shattering and you know credit him for for doing the appearance in the midst of struggles in the first place, but one misstep that I think he did make or at home. One bad look is saying that you know, look, we we thought that Kyrie Irving was going to be here forever and and and he decided to go somewhere else and you know, we had to kind of pivot responding and it just to even harkened back to Chi relieving I mean one. How does that make me feel from Kemba Walker to how does it kind of make me feel if I'm the other superstars on your team and it just feels a little bit unnecessary to even you know, single out a situation that that went wrong a ultimately, you know, revisionist history, but ultimately a bad gamble obvious life and a guy that so passionately didn't want to be here and didn't buy in and you know everything that we've come to learn after the fact and now he goes somewhere else and he's finding success because now he actually cares and he's with guys that he wants to be with it's just off to even bring it up in the first place and and to live in that mindspace. I think it's concerning Yeah, you know, I don't know what to say. I mean, I think that there is a level of like yeah living off hallway is definitely something that you know, I mean look at look at guy like Scalabrine, you know whom is considered a God here over the offseason. Although he wasn't on the playoff roster like the finals roster. No, but yet he's a God here. He's a champion. They do a lot of mileage off of that and that's thirteen years. That's a long time and it just seems like yesterday and everything seems like maybe eight seven eight years ago doesn't seem like 13,000. Um, but man if you watch NBA games and awake remember you really realize who's wouldn't be in the league then know Steph. No Kauai, you know, Harden no birth. Durant as a rookie skinny rookie where Seattle like if you go back to 08 and watch the O A games you just oh my God, it's that's that that guy was a week then. Like I said, it's it's.

The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix
Did Boston Celtics Overplay Their Hand?
"Boston. Overplay its hand. There were a lot of reports in the hours. Leading up gordon hayward signing that the celtics and the pacers were discussing a sign and trade gary washburn over the boston globe. He suggests that the pacers were willing to throw in miles. Turner the celtics water a miles. Turner plus package whether it's miles. Turner and tj warren or miles turner and victoria depot. That that that celtics package seemed to highly unlikely to be something the pacers would go for. Tj warrant is coming off a monster performance in the bubble and victor oladipo for all his injury issues. last year is still an all star level player. You don't give up to players of that caliber to get a player. That play like gordon hayward frankly so the celtics. They didn't walk away with nothing because they do have tristan thompson. Now they do have jeff teague. But i can see jeff how miles turner would goodness celtics uniform. And the guy is a three point shooting mobile shot-blocking big man. He's not perfect. He's been called soft before there's questions about positional fit. But something tells me brad. Stevens could do well with versatile. Big man who can shoot three pointer. I i just. I wonder if we'll look back on this in a year and wonder if the celtics overplayed their hand because miles turner in addition to all the things i said he's got a reasonable contract by nba standards anyway. Eighteen million dollars per year over the next three. What do you think of that. Do you think there's a chance the celtics overplayed their hands here. I don't know. I don't think so. Crass t taking a slightly different tact on it. Because i wasn't all that a or the whole idea of only getting mile turner back in the deal. I understand everything you just said But the celtics certainly just made a a decision that that's what they were looking for excitement. Lucy gordon hayward elsewhere without getting any say return on. I don't mind that trying to get a little bit more in it. Not working out for them and again. I'm hearing all your points what you're saying about mouse. Turner but that's something maybe dearly age his staff. I'm not saying you're gonna go out and find another mouse. Turner application that production with a couple of different players here and there and whether it ends up being some kind of combination of daniel thais and looking down the bench and seeing what happens off from that point I just wasn't sure that you know. Look indiana if you really wanna gordon hayward i think you had to force them to really make you pay for it and i don't say that do would you come down to it. The pacers were willing to give up that much and so that sure indicates how much that they really wanted. Gordon hayward i'm fine with the celtics student what they did now. You could be ultimately correct. They may regret not adding that kind of player. Especially we get into the playoffs split I agent it is staff are more than willing to let that ride. It see if they can't come up with that kind of a similar player through the course of use it a couple of different players and seeing what they can do at the trade deadline. Yeah they did get tristan thompson. Which is exactly what they need in on that front line. They've got the more athletic up perimeter shooting floor spacing kind of guy. You've got robert williams who is athletic shop locked they didn't have the physical rebounding tough guy. And that's what tristan thompson is brings championship experience to that team which i think will be a valuable addition and jeff teague is fine. He's not a starter anymore. But you're not asking him to basically kemba walker insurance down there in case kennedy's to take time off that knee injury so it wasn't. It wasn't a failure of an off season for boston. I just. I wonder how we look at this this summer. The summer this fall we look at a couple years
