"But it's just sort of this doomed feeling of like if I roll up and open my eyes on opening day 2022 and Aaron boons in the dugout and Gary Sanchez is a starting catcher, although Kyle has actually but if Gary Sanchez is the presumptive everyday starter, I'm supposed to play a 130 games. That's when it starts to really feel like a Groundhog Day situation. And I think a lot of people were so there was irrational Gary Sanchez backlash because his defense suffered in 2017 as he was awesome in 2018 when his bat started to wilt a little bit. People were like, man, the defense, and it was just this annoying loud backlash that was definitely too early. Players struggle. Players get better, 2018, he hits a massive postseason home runs against the Red Sox. You know, annoying year for sure, but you could live with Gary Sanchez's 2018 season whatever. Yeah. But the backlash started too early. And so then the backlash to the backlash began and people started dogmatically defending Gary Sanchez at every turn. Then he had an all star first half to prove those people right, then he had the worst 2020 you've ever seen that proved all the annoying angry people, right. And then you have warring factions of the Yankees fan base. Going back and forth talking about how Gary is perfect, no Gary is dreadful. Gary is the best hitter on the team, no Gary is unplayable. And they're the truth is somewhere in between, but it's just a cursed existence. And the defense keeps getting worse as the bat keeps getting worse. I don't think enough people are talking about the effect of having a different catching coach in a different catching style every year. Being almost the same as laboratory. Like we've agreed now laboratories is not a shortstop because we've seen what the bat can do with second base, and he played better already as soon as you alleviate the shortstop concerns. I don't understand why the Gary Sanchez conversation isn't the same thing. Like maybe we don't need to hire new people to revamp his stance every year. Maybe we accept the defense's average to a little bit below average instead of constantly trying to mess around a range of ceiling. His arm's not as good as it used to be. No. So I think you can win a title with Gary Sanders, just like I think you can win a title with Aaron Boone, but it just starts to feel a little stale after a while, especially when there is such a lightning rod flashpoint. And so I understand keeping Gary sages over the other options, but I just roll my eyes a little bit, knowing now that it kind of feels like I'm gonna wake up on opening day and still be thinking about Gary Sanchez and still be thinking about Aaron boot. Yeah, and that's what they have to fix. They have to determine that they have to, is it Gerrit Cole forcing this? Or is it the Yankees coaching staff being like, he can't catch him? Because that's ridiculous. Like the first we have on ace who can't..

"Gallo double, glaber double. Huge hit, hit of the year. Geo infield single gets him home, 5 three. Gary Sanchez had come in for defense and caught a runner stealing in the top of the inning. And his two run Homer broke the game open and gave way to Chapman who, for my money using Chapman in that 9th inning was the smartest thing Aaron Boone has done in weeks. We all know Chapman pitches better in theory when he gets more work. You could not afford him not pitching Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday and then going into Friday with four consecutive days off in the game one of that Red Sox series. And he looks as good as these looked all year. Again against 7 8 9 in the Texas lineup, I understand..

"They mean Gary Sanchez. You can move with them exactly is so lazy behind the dish drives me Negotiate. AKA is Chris sloth behind the disk. He moves so slow. Everything about Gary Sanchez is laborious agree. Nothing is easy with that, By the way, the play that negotiation negotiate, AKA made And forget anything was seventh or eighth thing was the eighth inning passed ball. Uh, they needed the out. It was the night that that was the ninth inning and they needed the out because, uh, Chapman to off speed pitch in, and I mean it hit the foot before the plate. He clipped it. It went behind him he founded and throughout the runner at first Which kept it and put it to two outs as opposed to one and save the game form. Basically wild game Saturday as well. Gary Sanchez, does he? First of all that ball, That ball goes to the goes to the backstop and another run, Bobby, come forget about Gary is going to be gone soon, but I'm going to say I'm going to say inbounding, the Yankees do have a better Core players simply because if these guys get hot, like Aaron judge when he crushed at home run 21 home run to ultimately put up the winning runs, they can do that more consistently. If they can do it more consistently, they'll be fine. Yankees are in trouble low. Let's not let's not blow the leader Yankees last I checked before they were losing again. Today they were losing. They were down five. Nothing. And then I think they tacked on a couple of cosmic check as soon as we go to break my well, let me know what the score the Yankee they were losing five to less than 51. Yeah. So Yankees are in trouble, but the core like I look at the word cord. I say. All right, guys, we're going to be on the team for a while. Yes, So like Baez is not going to be on the Mets. He's gone, all right. He's going to be on these guy. I think in photo could be gone at some point. Like Lindores, a core Aaron judge is a core Rizzo could be gone. They could trade Stanton that they eat somebody. I mean, Gardner is going to retire, saying Sanchez will be gone like it is not a lot of guys who are core. That's right. Outside of really, Judge endure the Graham and obviously Gerrit Cole. Even Marcus drove inside the one who feels like so there's gonna be a lot about activity there from their roster. I'll say inbounds, not with great faith, but only because Aaron Judge is better than endure. That's the only reason like that's the only reason so inbounds, I guess..

"He's like, did he get enough? The second it went off the bat dude. You knew it was fucking headed for Manhattan. Lindor was gone. The second Lindor went in the second, he lost his. He did his like going up an octave thing. It's four two in the second inning. And then Lindor made him look stupid to hit two bigger home runs in that game. Yeah. And then as urgent couldn't bring the energy back 'cause he was like, I already wasted it in the second inning. Yeah, well, anyway, we can get to that a little bit later, I guess, but Gary Sanchez, more indefensible stuff. More indefensible stuff from everybody. So we're not really singling Gary out, but I mean, that play went viral on social media. You knew how egregious it was. It gave them that's life when they shouldn't have had any definitely turn the tides for the game. Jordan Montgomery was certainly at fault for that bad star, but you have to think that that threw him off and affected kind of his mental state for the next couple innings, which also were not good. But yeah, once again, plays that you can not be making as a major league starting catcher. Egregious lapses in judgment, just not paying attention, lack of aggression, and then it goes back to his performance at the plate too. Like cool, you had a great game against the Orioles at the team blue, but like how many last week against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, a lot of opportunities to cash in and deliver doesn't do it basically a ghost this entire series against the mets like Gary Sanchez simply not doing enough has not entirely done enough. His season for the first couple months seemed like he'd be on a good trajectory. He's largely not been good. Defense still not there. It's never gonna be there. Offense, still not enough. You could look at the numbers. Oh, Grady has over 20 home runs, OPS, not high enough, RBI, certainly not there. One O 6, one O 6 OPS plus. So again, slavery above at slightly above average, not what I'm looking for from Gary Sanchez. If the defense is going to be so below average. Exactly. Same thing with glaber Torres. I'll take the laboratories to run home run. I'll take more two run home runs if labor wants to make errors in the field, but laboratories has what a 6 70 OPS 6 75 OPS and is botching routine grounders each and every night. So two guys that the Yankees are gonna have to go into this off season. Unless they make a World Series run, which is not happening, it's probably not happening. There's probably like a 10% chance of it happening. Yeah. Because percentages exist and not everything is dead yet, but you have to go into this off season if.

"Even if the pitchers, even if we lose them at some point, there's Medina, there's Schmidt. There's Randy Velasquez, Vasquez vet Randy Vasquez. There's guys. There's guys I want to see. There is a wave of prospects coming out of our system too. And I can't wait until 2023 when we learn they're all weirdly un clutched too, and there's nothing we can do about it. Like this current core. Yeah, what are you gonna do? Great prospects and they come up they never deliver in big situations. What are you gonna do? Nothing you can do. Can't determine that from single eye. But now that safety net is entirely gone, the lead is gone. The ability for you to say, we play down to bad teams and beat good teams, that's gone because we just faced a real good team at home and didn't hold a lead for four games. We were at the game on Wednesday. The gardener home run felt like the Gary Sanchez Grand Slam from Sunday to me, where I like it. I'm glad it happened at no point in the wake of that home or am I confident in the ultimate outcome of the game? Yeah. And of course, after the Gary Grand Slam, most good teams would slam the door, especially after the secondary home run that put them up 7 four. Most good team slammed the door several times against the Orioles Yankees don't do it once. Garner takes momentum back ties the game. Most good teams find a way to win that. Yankees find a way to lose it. That's why I just don't feel like there's anything good in the future of this team. I don't think it's, you know, they get surprised me. I think the Italian Gallo Rizzo shirts are gonna age is poorly as any shirt. The job Arun them at this point. Looks like the job are rules at this point. I'm not seeing it. I'm not giving I'm not surrendering. I laid out the path for you. I'm not saying it's that hard. It really isn't. "But we're going to be seeing a lot more. He because of the luis severino problem where we take a quick break. Now gonna come back and talk about that. Welcome back to the go yard podcast. So the luis severino conundrum. Obviously the way you look at it is it. it's exceedingly i. It's exceedingly frustrating. Because you see. Chris sale coming back against the for the red sox and he's got this wild whip pitching motion. Everything about it looks unnatural. He was predicted. Tommy john candidate forever because you know. Obviously all pitchers break to a certain extent but everything about chris. Sale looked unnatural bizarre like a vulture strange. Not the way you teach it and he finally it seems like he's injured at the end of two thousand nine hundred nine. He sort of getting shut down. Getting the prp injections and stuff twenty twenty. They finally decided to go for and give them the tommy. John any misses the requisite amount of time. He misses the time that you need. We have from the surgery. He comes back and he's you know no setbacks through all twenty twenty one looking good looking strong building himself up You know at the minor league level is throwing a lot of pitches. Maybe he's not missing bathroom his fastball. But you know by and large. He looks like chris sale when he comes back facing the orioles helps that but e basically looks like chris sale that that's what's happening luis severino of course shoulder issue in twenty nineteen so forgets forgets when game. Three of the ale starts in two thousand eighteen one of the most depressing moments of my phantom. That's insane whatever. The real story was didn't seem prepared for that game got blasted by the red sox and what was a pivot game on route to the red sox world title so the red sox win the championship that year after one hundred wins in the regular season. Maybe they don't if luis severino is an ace and deals in that game. Three and then suddenly. You're up to one the next night gary sanchez. Almost it's a grand slam against craig. Kimbrel that's closer than you remember. Especially because once again the lost that game like nineteen one or whatever they lost it but if severino is severino instead of some poor facsimile. Maybe it's different. Shows that for twenty nine thousand nine hundred hurt. He's just sort of on the shelf. You rarely see him. it's a shoulder. it's constant setback. Finally comes back to the very end of the year throws three starts. All of the starts or more like relief appearances. They're quite short gets to the postseason doesn't have his best stuff beats. The twins gets out of a bases-loaded no out rally. That was pretty cool. Wins game three loses. Gary cole the yes and then.

"How many times can you name the yankees How many games can you recall where they had a lead. In the ninth at fenway park recently recent history and lost only recent history. You got this one last night. Three one pretty bad very bad. Twenty seventeen year old is chapman walked the bases-loaded and blew a one run lead and they eventually got walked up. Andrew benintendi remember that very clearly 2016. They blew like a four nothing lead in its anarchist start and hanley. Ramirez walked off with a three run home. Run to dead center field. That happened two thousand eighteen. The three run lead in the ninth mcginlay do it with the throwing error the it and then eventually they got walked off. Of course they did. I mean that's four since two thousand sixteen fairly confident. That's not all of them didn't happen last year. There were no fans. Gary sanchez actually came back. In the ninth against the red sox. "Strikes out. looking yankee. Third base coach. Phil nevin was irate. Got thrown out either way. We go to extras tied at four top. Ten at fluey sesa during the pitching and a three to count. That's called the ball. And gary sanchez can't believe it. The yankees are frustrated. And then they would like this. Even last two onto that zander bogart's a basic both run score and the red sox winning six four completing the sweep again. It's the first time. The red sox walk into yankee stadium and leave with a sweep in a decade prior to this series. Boston lost eleven straight away games against the bombers. Moreover the red sox have now won five straight extra inning games at yankee stadium. We'll talk more about that later. Meanwhile now let's talk about this. Tomorrow is a significant day. In the development of the aaron rodgers sodden it is the first of three consecutive days of packers mandatory minicamp in his monthly column. Packers president. "It said of torres scores here comes door and he scores and a to run base in clint frazier and the yankees. Take a four one leonidas. John sterling was totally naked. I yeah i mean do it get naked. Party frazier the homer on the night prior the big two run single last night yankees beat the race. Four three wasn't easy but overall this chapman does get the save a little bit messy but he got through it Bottom line good. Couple of days for aaron boone's club. I do like the way the guys are competing right now and you know. They're they're doing enough to so obviously hold on and win tonight. Sure did frazier. The key is his stance. He says where he. He's found his swing. I've got right now. You know where. I'm lifting my leg a little bit higher and and giving myself the best chance to give my ace swing off. I m waltz working And then the one thing you would not like from this game based running mistakes again. They had a couple of them. Boone knows i am confident that we will get better at this This has been a team over the last few years with a lot of the same actors that have run the basis. Really well just shooting the base running running basis correct level. They've been thrown out more on the basis than any other team team in. May i know it's major bra. Gary sanchez won. The other night was just horrific. Sort of defended. Did you hear him explain that. You'd like gave a half offense. Yeah i had heard at all with him. I had that loaded a couple of times for you yesterday. I never got to it. i can give it. That was that was about as bad as guest. John was doing a game and just while john party. he's not afraid to call somebody out and say something. It's not all jokes and laughs. An analytics guy made a damn stupid mistake. This was boone. I wasn't worried about taking out the field you know. I'm you know you know some of the mistakes he's made on the basepaths we get. We gotta clean up and get better at obviously out of these. I don't worry about that carrying over into defense or his offense. It's just what it is. They said they'll work with him. Still is this like his fourth year in the majors. He's been playing baseball his whole life. Yes and you're on second base and the ball gets hit to the shortstop literally ten feet away from you right right. You don't run. No he did and that just goes to show that that to me anyway. This has been one of the big problems with gary sanchez is that he just loses focus or is just in the clouds. What do you say out in the softball fields. What's that line. You get your head out of you. You know you're to you. Dancing with the aries. The ferries ferries. What are we doing dancing playing baseball. We focused are we locked in. Because that's what our men tibbs likes to say get locked in getting locked in you know. He's not locked in all the time. He's out there dancing with the ferry. So garrett cole today takes on ryan yarborough. We'll see if he is dialed in series finale on the fan at twelve twenty..

"Garrett Cole, a strikeout king. So the power right hander Garrett Cole out there on the mountain. Making his 10th start. Tim Anderson to 98 with five home runs the right handed batter. And the first pitch is down and away Ball one. The attention of the home plate umpire Jim Reynolds touch Kitchener has the plate called the Balls and strikes. Jim Reynolds the empire at first base. Chadwick's in its second. Ryan Blakeney, a third are thanks to Michael K. For helping us out with that. Swinging a fallow whole plate bonus strike on Timmy Anderson. You know what we say to Mike? Okay there, Roxie. No, we say to him CIA CIA kid off of our broadcast. Him. Anderson is over his last 16. Wind up from cold. The 11 fastball that's outside of 97. Two balls and one strike defensively for the Yankees. It's Andrew Hart and left Gardner and center judges and write her Shelagh at third, a tremendous defensive player. Laboratories it short route and adore the second basement. Mike Ford, it first in Higashio could catching cold. The 21 is just up in a way with a slider its three in one And this battery is pretty much the battery we see these days. Garrett Cole, Kyle Higashio, CA We saw that really emerged last year with Gary Sanchez and some inconsistencies. 31 fastball on a ground ball to short to his right, charging it. Torre is on the first takes care of Anderson, and that's how our ball game begins. Iraq. See one of the things with Gary Sanchez, and getting extended opportunities was because the potential of the bat but when the bat wasn't quite there, and all of a sudden you've got a really great receiver and Kyle Higashi Oka Ad biggest joke of providing offense hitting home runs, You know, just kind of below the radar getting it done. It almost becomes a no brainer for the Yankees of who they need to have back there most of the time. Especially when this guy's on the mound, Gerrit Cole. Left handed batting Adam Eaton hitting.

"So we welcome in our radio affiliate serious ethics exam mightier ten ninety in san diego sports map sports byline armed forces radio who raw soldier who sits on the bench so low as it gets the job done three three going to the bottom of the. But here's the deal. As far as gardner. He got a hit tonight. It was like a cheap pit. And he's sitting one eighty five. I mean it's embarrassing. Though the bottom four of their lineup ford's hitting a buck three. It's just so atrocious. Heck's one sixty eight. I've always told you. He sucks sanchez. Hitting one seventy five and gardner one eighty five. I mean gary sanchez. I think and no one wants to hear it but the reality is i think he's finished with the yankees i really do. I think is days are numbered. I mean really numbered. They cannot continue to play. This guy cannot hit his is confidence is in the sewer. He can't even. I mean he gets to absolutely nothing. I mean he walked tonight and they cheered. That's how bad he's been and gardner in my opinion Just forget about that. Infield eddie had the night you know what it was it was. It was a hit that skip over outdo base glove in the water. It was raining so bad so it skipped off the grass and went over his glove. It was a cheap hit a hit nevertheless. But as far as i'm concerned i didn't even see it hit for miami's been so terrible and to me. I said this earlier on twitter. He looks just completely finished. Me washed done it. Looks like a guy. "That's enough look in backwards at this nonsense. We've won two of three tram. look at. let's look forward to the rest of the series four game set against cleveland. starting off one zero. I like it. I like where we're starting here. Got a three-game set now coming into the weekend. And what are we looking at. What are the five things. Look into the weekend that we're looking forward to number one. We got ourselves. We got ourselves. Showcase showdown remember the showcase showdown took the showcase showdown. Is shane bieber. Garrett cole on saturday that's that's a damn good start right there. That's a that's a that's a. that's a high pri- profile to former cy. Young guys to potential cy young guys actually even though eric goals but he should have just ver- leonard did not deserve it Garrett cole did saturday saturday saturday. Saturday bieber cole. Let's go yeah. I mean i don't know what else to say about that it's a rematch of game. One of the wild cards series last year yankees spanked the beams back then. I don't know if that's going to happen again. Even though this often still look a lot better tonight. I don't know if they're in a place to be hitting around shane bieber but yeah. That's that's a. That's a heavyweight prizefight right there. It is a good one. I'm very much looking forward to that. Hopefully the yankees This is a great time for them to to break out of something to go up against. You know you have a friday night game then. You get into another warm-up game essentially got shane bieber on saturday gets bats. Go tomorrow. Feel good nice. Little day game will warmer. You know because that's what they need some warmer weather. You hear neil talking about that on the broadcast thought of our conversation last episode. Where you're like important. What happens in october. Does the weather get cold again. It's like yeah you blow in her hands. The first one beaver versus kind of goes into the second one and it was interesting. That gary sanchez did not catch on thursday gi. Got the start. I think that's kind of a benching or at least a calling the essentially just alternating guys alternating guys in that. Would to me mean. They're going to line up. Gary sanchez to catch on friday night. Hagi to catch on saturday night and then sunday afternoon day. Game will be gary sanchez again. I would be shocked if it's otherwise. I hope it's otherwise because you know i like to. I want to see. Gary start to catch call a little bit but hey hagi had two hits tonight at home run tonight so all right. It's a platoon. I don't know what it is a personal catcher. Whatever everyone whatever you wanna call it. I think that the Part of the reason that gary didn't catch on thursday is because they're trying to line up to accommodate coal. It's possible it's possible that they i mean they want to. They want to get hagi with coal again. Potentially it also they have to. One of those guys is gonna get a day off clearly on on sunday or saturday because of the night game into the day game right. So that's that's one of those. Those boone moments were that's It's going to be a different catcher. So if you're going to have different. Catcher at that point might as well have higgins catching coal. So yeah. I don't care who catches who anymore. I do want to see gary sanchez. Catch coal you know a good amount. This season two so. It's not a thing when we're going into the playoffs but at this point does not bother me. It doesn't matter because both of those guys. Are you know playing playing. Well i mean he's he's hitting nobody complained about. Nobody can can possibly complain about what the catcher situations doing right now. Because it's not a problem. It's really not a problem at this point. Numerous tress number. Three is gio healthy. This is something that we're really looking forward to not in the lineup tonight. We saw him pull up yesterday. when he was running to first base not not a care problem not an effort problem. He was definitely pulling up. There was an uncomfortable situation. He went back out but then he got pulled later in the game. So definitely is on that because jerry. Shallow was has been one of the guys in this team that that has not been an issue at the plate. We talked about this before. Gio is the the exact the exact case. Study for what you need to do to break out of a slump. And the way that he approaches his at bats going with the pitch is shorting this wing when needed and just looking for that good at that good swing good contact line drive guy and you know what did he do. He smoked the ball over centerfield because he had a good approach. So definitely hoping that. It's nothing serious at all. Obviously we all are but really he such a dynamic player in this lineup right now. Compared to everybody else they need him. They need him badly. Boone said he would have been available tonight off the bench. So i don't think it's too serious has really does highlight is how how poorly constructed this infield roster is because without gio there. You only have gleyber torres to play shortstop now. I'm not even talking about benching. Glacier whatever what happens if glacier needs to come out of the game who plays short-leg literally shortage dj. But then tonight who would have played third base like this is my point door who would have played second base. Anybody okay so you get where i'm going with. This is that it's it's there. It's not the most flexible. Here's the The brian cashman term. Right if boone can use bulk and care factor. Cashman can throw some flexibility around some flexible roster flexibility. It's not a flexible roster. No i mean you. There's there's no other natural shortstop on the roster period even if jio's is healthy so construction of what they're doing right now is. It's not ideal. I mean tyler wade. The only other natural shortstop that is on this roster and he's not even active. So yeah it's it's it's something at some point that's gonna come up and it's gonna come up and it's going to be an issue at some point. Would you go through an entire season with one shortstop. Just you just can't do that. It's going to be an issue and they're gonna find themselves in a situation where giancarlo is going to have to go into the field in some really stupid way. It's going to be like they're gonna have to move giancarlo to left fielder. Brett gardner is going to have to play. Shortstop as a lefty. Oh i'm here for that. Do you remember when Mattingly played.

"You know two out of three lou losses to toronto in all honesty. We joke around. But that's really the silver lining. Here is the two home runs from gary sanchez. Who got off to a hot start in spring training. Cool down for a little bit and then comes out this weekend. Hits a couple of bombs. This is what you're going to need from. You're going to need hits from dj lemay. Who you're gonna get hits from dj. He's a good player. I i like. I you know of all the things you know. We're and we're josh a little yankee fans here but lemay. He was a good player. He's a solid player. Well we like. We like to stick the knife in and twist. We've got a lot of pain beano memphis. "The double line. Drive double right over judge head in right. Field and toronto takes a three chula judge head did did he misjudge it or what. I think that he didn't play well he didn't go back on. The ball is adeptly as meets baz. Make me want to puke. What do you think jerry you. Tell me your main coach. He's a he's a professional rightfielder. That's twisting and turning the wrong way. I would say yes. He misplayed the ball. Hard hard to argue with. It actually was wendy yesterday. Some sun out there. Some shadows there was some sun area. It's not that easy. Yeah you ever try to catch a ball and that's jerry. You're out there in right field once. I don't try fly balls well okay. He's a professional right fielder. But what i'm saying is like nobody. I haven't heard one person say that. He misjudged that. Actually antibody did guys on tv. We're talking about how the ball said over his head. Janki guys come see. Because they're yankee shells. Yeah i mean everybody else was watching the game with any sort of interest thought to be misplayed. The ball under carl yastrzemski award winner. When you see an outfielder turning the wrong way what do you think this yeah He misjudged the ball right. Yes john sterling. Had the calls on the fan. Three two in ten was the final so not the best of days for the yankees to open areas. Here was judge knows. He didn't get it done at the plate opportunities and especially like i said earlier at the plate with guys in scoring position tie game you know. I could have given us a lead or done. Something and We just didn't execute wasn't just him though when you look at Lemay hugh judge hicks. Stanton toro's an shell a combined two for twenty six twelve strikeouts not great And you had. The only offense was a home. Run by gary sanchez. Garrett cole amazing gave up that game tying home run to tasker hernandez he says me and sanchez. no issues just which. I didn't throw that stupid pitched hernandez thought for the most part We did a nice job And just just want that slider back. They'll work that way. Here's aaron boone. "Let me take you to another one yesterday yankees and bluejays on a chilly day. The opener a yankee stadium. And here's the highlights from this one. Bottom of two one. On for gary sanchez and gary. Sanchez has left the ballpark sanchez. The first yankee catcher to homer on opening day in eleven years jens have a two one league garrett cole now doing the pitching and not well oscar hernandez oh no doubt about that drills one the left in the six that ties the game two and garett cold not pleased bottom nine. Same score winning. Run it second. Aaron judge of the plate. Can he be the hero on opening day. That's the question. The answer is no judge. One for five struck out twice. We're going to extras top of the ten runners. At second randall. Grischuk pool rightfielder. Aaron judge can't get it no. We can't sixty five percent was the hit probability on this. It's an rbi double. The run comes around to score and that would be the difference. Blue jays win it three two in extras on opening day. And so back to you jessica mendoza. What's your number one takeaway from the ball game yesterday in the bronx gary sanchez. I mean you've got to remember a lot of people. Were watching last year gary sanchez. You didn't think he was eating a start or be in this lineup for the yankees. Because how bad help awesome. He was offensively last year. Being one forty seven six four strikeouts tech eight teen walks. His biggest thing coming in was to be able to sit back behind the baseball. That home run. You could use feel the pressure. Come off of him. Why because there's so many other guys in this lineup. That when they struggle. It's up to gary sanchez. And he's the difference maker to me because you know when it comes down to aaron judge who also struggled with this game carlos stanton both of those guys are prone to injuries. They're not going to be in this lineup throughout the entire season and to the big piece. That's missing because by the way it is world series or bust for the yankees team. Gary sanchez has to step up. I know it's only one game but that run was huge

"This is. This is more to the point why. I didn't want brett gardner. Not that i didn't want record this team. I like brett gardner yada yada gotta throw in. But couldn't frazier deserves to be the starting left fielder for the new york. Yankees and brian cashman essentially said well if he doesn't say that it brings in the ambiguity. Whether it's gardner whomever it is. It doesn't matter who it is. They need to say that because because honestly the way that he did rebound the way that he came back from off the field stuff just like you know he was. He was vilified by by the media. Essentially he did some dumb things but he certainly took steps in becoming much better baseball player. A hell of i mean. He was in the running for a defensive a a gold glove last year. Kogo crazy so he. He went one eighty defense with way that people think about him and you know he just handled himself very well and he and he played well so you. He deserves the job not to mention. He's a young guy coming up who's got all the ability to get better. He needs the reps as well so that he can find himself what he's truly going to be as he's getting into the peak years of his career a guy like brickner should never be in the way of that ever whether it's in your mind or or physically on the field. Did you should not be that way. I think that brett gardner is going to be more to the point of like for some reason you thought the mayhew was going to drag on to- spring training brett gardner. This is set up beautifully for that. Brek owners not gonna get a job anywhere else. He's going to either go with the yankees or he's just gonna you know not retire probably but not sign and he's going to be on the farm for the entire year or he's going to be ready for the yankees to call him in the middle of spring training and say let's go and it's going to be for the minimum and he's gonna come in and play a role you think he'll play for them and i've heard it'll be i'm sure they'll they'll make some little the fluffy deal to that'll be that'll be That'll look better it will. It won't be insulting and it will stay under the make sure that everybody's in good position with the The finances but they just don't need to get it done right now. I don't think why do you think he wouldn't get a job anywhere. I could see both a raise or the blue jays giving him a caucus guys like gardner right now are just. They're not. Nobody wants to pay a guy like this anything. They'd rather give it to get up paying over your so that would do for your organization. I don't see. I mean maybe he will. Maybe i'm wrong here. But i i think that the way that we've seen baseball trending and the way that money has not gone to these Middling veteran guys. They just haven't been getting contracts like at all. There have been guys sitting out because they're not getting the interest anywhere. The teams are rather put a younger guy in there and see if they can build some built some equity with a young guy. That's overplaying what he's the what they're paying for them and at least there's some upside there. There's upside for brett gardner for another team. No you wouldn't be doing it for years of battling a bad week. He's going to be nobody. What is going on the team anymore. Yeah and i guess like wh who was it David doll knee. Get like two and a half million bumped up. Yeah exactly so. I just don't see the more upside guy. He's more upside is younger than gardner. He's a at this. Point is a better player than gardner. Gardner has more leash as a new york yankee more more value as a new york yankee than anywhere else. I certainly argue. So yeah. that's still the case. Obviously okay so so. Maybe you're right. Maybe maybe a tenth we hear. Oh brett gardner came in to yankees camp. He signed he signed for the minimum or he signed for a million bucks. Surprise me. Rosins surprise me. Gardner was a camp like unsigned and he's just like coming in work. And you just shows up in the park and then it's just assume that that's going to happen. Potentially and he's gonna be but they're gonna. They're making it very clear right now. They're making sure that the media understands this all the fans understand what's happening is that so you know cashman saying we liked the roster here the way it's going right now. I could see us walking into the season like this clinton guy all the positive things about him all the support right there and then if if gardner does come on and afterthought it's a it's a depth peace and you know what i'm fine with brett gardner if he's the fifth outfielder. I'm totally fine with that. My problem if brett gardner is resigned then unfortunately because his name is brett gardner and he's been here for twelve years for whatever reason he's going to get more playing time than he deserves. That could still happen. Even even everything. I just said happens is well because once you get into the season and you're on the you're in the clubhouse in the dugout you know aaron boone. Looks around. he sees his guys brecher inserts. Getting getting hot. You know pulling some matt holliday Getting swollen and hidden bombs into into right field. Never know i. But i think there are anointing right now. Could frazier is the starting left fielder which key deserves and good for him. And the doozy comments. Brian cashman amid were about gary sanchez. And the fact that he did that. Espn interview about a month ago. Saying that the yankees never talked to me about why why. I was benched. Brian cashman fires back with..

"gary sanchez" Discussed on The Bronx Pinstripes Show - Yankees MLB Podcast

"Fourteen stephen drew for kelly johnson blah. Son of a bitch nineteen ninety-seven the yankees traded a player to be named later in tony. Our mr boston for randy brown. Who had never heard of mike stanley And then the yankees set. Jim messer zero trade. He was a middle reliever ninety four. They're right you're you're like twenty seven and nineteen. So that's what my bet for knows before. So my memories decent the were you. Actually twenty-seven what year was this. I wasn't even listening to you. Nineteen ninety seven. I was seventeen right. yes you are. Thank you for the admission. The he's purchased the something. The name by the name of scott bankhead from the red sox nineteen eighty-six the yankees traded. Dodd baylor to the red sox for mike easier then nine hundred seventy two names. Don bailer is a player. Mike east learn. How did we not know the red sox. Nineteen seventy-two traded sparky lyle to the yankees for a player to be named later. I mean sparky. Lyle turned into a cy young. Relief pitcher for the yankees. I forgot about that one I've heard i had heard that when you said it. It rang a bell head as as as true my time. Now not gonna go. I'm not going to date myself before my time. So out of will inevitably come into a big situation against the yankees. This year facing judge stanton void sanchez. Throwing frisbee sliders. And i just hope that they don't swing at them. I swear to god if they swing at them. I'm gonna. I'm gonna do something terrible because all they have to do is not swing the bat. It's it and nobody will get a pitch. They will get a or they will walk. One of two things will it. And then shortly. After that trade the yankees signed darren o'day to one point seven five million in two thousand twenty one with a one point four million player option in twenty twenty two or seven hundred thousand dollar buyout so basically the yankees have committed three point. One five million to darren o'day so they offload eight point one five million for auto and they commit three point. One five million to darren o'day who's been very good in his career but has also had some injury issues the last couple seasons and he's thirty was he's he's not young is i mean i'm not saying this is a bad move by any means like it's it's a cheap move and he could be a quality reliever but the bullpen could be an issue. I really do think we're going to start. We're gonna see some young kids up there. And i think that they're gonna. I do think that they're going to change some rolls around. They have a lot of firepower. That bullpens still. i'm not worried about the bullpen. i'm really not. I'm not worried about chapman. Not worried about britain. And i'm not worried about chad green. That's three guys to years ago. We had six guys that we had full confidence in. No it's true and and look where it got us hasn't hasn't gotten us anywhere close to anything so i'm fine too right. Maybe it was. Maybe it was the wrong thing for the yankees at the time to rise relying too heavily on there. It was the wrong thing because they they did. They structured during tire team around the a frequent bullpen. Which is back as words. So it's not a right way to do it this year. At least through and a whole bunch of starting pitchers granted there either old broken or potentially broken or coming back from major personal problems. The horrible guys. He's got elbow problems shoulder. Problems for on problem but violence problems. Unbelievable when you look when you look up and down like dr some kids i. I've brought him up a few times. But nick nelson impressed me. At the end of the year. I can see him stepping up and being A good piece in the bullpen. I know he's got the you know he's he's been stretched out to be a starter as well but i see him as a more of a bullpen peace and again i really really really hope they can find the why ziga and put him in a position to succeed. And that's probably one inning. Let him be a one guy. Let him master to pitches and just be dominic it. Because he's got he's got the stuff for it for sure. I could see him taking that chad. Green stuff this year. Yeah there's going to be more opportunities this year to make roster spots in the bullpen than there have been the past five seasons definitely definitely and and over the way the starting pitching staff the rotation is so deep that not all of these guys are going to be in that rotation you may see towards after the all star break after the trade deadline. Somebody get turned around and put into the bullpen as either a a swing guy or or heck a severino coming in later he may he may come in and be you know a a very integral piece that that is able to go to winnings you know in the the sixth and seventh or the fifth and the sixth and get through the heart of a lineup and then you put in the other guys in the back of the bullpen so it would surprise me if one of those guys that were were talking about right now as a starting pitcher was a was a piece in the bullpen. At the end of the season to there will be injuries as always always injuries ski. You're always going to need seven eight nine start guys to make starts throughout season. That's not going to change the case. And i'm getting more and more excited for clark schmidt in whatever capacity that we see him so if there's a he wasn't on the fan graph projects which i think is a mistake. Finger has been missing. The past to the projections of the american league was stupid. And they've changed that but it was it was a bad projection in the beginning. He's thrown six major league innings. So it's like but you have to look at. I mean there's so many of these considerations that i know you can't go deep in the yankees rotation with their projections..
