"gary sanchez" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"In honor of the 20th anniversary. I highly recommend everybody if you have the opportunity to check that out. Just another fascinating look behind the scenes of what was going on in the president's war room. What, everybody who was there. And involved involved in it directly now. Back to sports If we may last night you had the first game of the subway Series this weekend. Like we said later on today is going to be the big event out at Citi Field as they honor the 20th anniversary of September 11th last night. It was the Mets and Yankees playing the first game of the Subway Series, with the Yankees reeling and l going in the Mets with the team that had fallen out of it kind of realistically, as far as the playoffs go, losing two of three To the Marlins, somehow not closing out a game against the nationals on Labor Day. So the Mets were the ones that weather or under 500. You figure that the Yankees will maybe get right Against the Mets. And, of course, the complete opposite happened when the Yankees drop. Now there's seventh in a row. They have lost 11 of 13. They lost two of three to Toronto. They get swept by the Blue Jays and now lose the first. To the Mets in and harassing fashion wasn't just they lost the ball game. They got embarrassed. They get up early one, Nothing and then right away in the bottom of the first inning on a play that I'm not so sure I've ever seen before. A normal art base hit to left field. Here comes runner around second, they send them. Joey Gallo, who's playing left field throws a seed to home and they have Jonathan VR. Dead to rights. He was out by a mile. Almost a literal ma. I mean, obviously, it can't be almost a little more. But for exaggeration he was out by that much. It was it wasn't even close and for some reason Gary Sanchez, who is certainly at his issues both offensively and defensively, not just this year for the last several years. For some reason, Gary Sanchez catches the ball Has the ball waits for the runner to come home, and that's how you know that's how long it was. It wasn't bang bang by any stretch. He had to wait for BR to even get to him. Gary Sanchez gets out of the way and allows Jonathan BR to slide into home. Before he tagged him out on the helmet. They called him out. Initially, you have to go replay it and he was safe. I've never seen that before. Don't give me that old laid. Don't warn. And that's what happened. Sanchez gave the old way to a level where I've never seen an L cracking more like El Matador. Calgary El Matador. What is Gary Sanchez thinking? One of many gaps by the Yankees. In where look, the Mets pounded him 10 3, but in reality This is not on. I mean, look, the Mets you give them credit. They won the game. They did some good things can foretell with a couple of base hits and runs Corland door with a home run in VR. As we mentioned he's been great Javi Baez having his impact felt with three hits and driving in a pair McNeil with a couple hits, including a bond single, which is a key spot. Tower. Miguel was pretty good, but really, it's about the Yankees. You know Miguel, who has been struggling as of late after a hot start. He's been struggling as of late. He goes out there and throws seven innings, allowing Just two runs. And struck out 10 Yankees, a career high form is that more about him or more about the Yankees? Adventure to say the latter. And the Yankees. Will Jordan Montgomery got rocked seven hits, seven runs, five of them earn. They also just played hideous defense. Gary Sanchez, You're Shelagh, making the usually short handed Gee or shallow, making another error. This time throwing Uh, glamour, Torres and all. I mean, you know, the Yankees are just asking for it. Laboratories made a bad throat should have been a double playing through the ball. Way over the first baseman's head. Yet again. The Yankees are asking for putting towards a short so you can sit there afterward and say We're going to be fine. We're going to get a turn around. You know, obviously, a poor performance is always the same old stuff with him. But until the Yankees actually decided to change that you can't tell me that they're surprised by Gary Sanchez being a zero Excuse me by Glaber. Torrez Being a zero at shortstop. I mean, you can throw Gary Sanchez in there, too. At home. I mean, you know, catching He hasn't I wouldn't call him a zero but he hasn't been very good. So what do you expect? When on the same stuff continues to happen? What do you expect? At some point you got to realize. Well, they're not going to change. So we need to change it. Form. Move Glaber tour as off of shortstop. I said it for weeks. I mean, how long do we gotta Wait here? What are you waiting for? Get him off of there. He's not a short stop. But Gary Sanchez, the Yankees wanted Joe Girardi out of here because he was too hard on Gary Sanchez. Gary Sanchez has been far far worse since jobs are already left. And a play like he made yesterday with that old lay play, allowing VR to score. Not that that, you know, ruin the game or was the biggest playing the game, but it did a lot of meds to get back into it and tie the game and pick up some momentum there. Right away is the answer back in the first inning sometimes, even though it just seems like one run, and you know, the game clearly got away from the Yankees in that bottom of the third inning. Well, they fell apart and allowed five runs. But if you make that one, nothing lead stick after the Yanks got on the board in the first Have you made that stick for an inning and then Gallo goes out there and it's the home run like he did in the top half of the second inning. Now you're up to nothing. And maybe the momentum starts to build a little bit. But they couldn't even get to that. Gary Sanchez, playing the role of El Matador. Let's VR score tied ballgame, even though Gallo it's the home of the next inning. It's only one run lead, and that lasted to the bottom of the third, where the Mets opened it up. Well, the five spot Would a dreadful performance by the Yankees seven hits two errors, The Yankees again come dangerously close to out error ring their hits. And I just find it remarkable. And frankly unbelievable. We probably used that word all the time. I was unbelievable. That was unbelievable. Well, this to me is truly unbelievable. Where you watch a team in the Yankees that 1 13 in a row and then proceeded to lose 11 of the next 13. What? How can you.

Recounting the Yankees' Most Excruciating Losses
"How many times can you name the yankees How many games can you recall where they had a lead. In the ninth at fenway park recently recent history and lost only recent history. You got this one last night. Three one pretty bad very bad. Twenty seventeen year old is chapman walked the bases-loaded and blew a one run lead and they eventually got walked up. Andrew benintendi remember that very clearly 2016. They blew like a four nothing lead in its anarchist start and hanley. Ramirez walked off with a three run home. Run to dead center field. That happened two thousand eighteen. The three run lead in the ninth mcginlay do it with the throwing error the it and then eventually they got walked off. Of course they did. I mean that's four since two thousand sixteen fairly confident. That's not all of them didn't happen last year. There were no fans. Gary sanchez actually came back. In the ninth against the red sox. That was nice It's at least one a year. It's a kind of lost that should maybe occur in this rivalry once every five or six years

"gary sanchez" Discussed on The Bronx Pinstripes Show - Yankees MLB Podcast
"It's red and dreamed and blue purple starter. They're letting him go deeper into games at is. It was surprising but now over his last five games. He's only averaged for under five innings. A start and that's just putting more pressure he's given up seven home runs in five starts so during our hormone has kind of come back down to earth a little bit and He had been on such good run. So it's one of these things like we were kind of all expecting it. Well also we've. We've seen her mind be really good in you. Know months a two-month spurs he's been he's been that guy but he's also a guy just hasn't had a ton of work load in a long time so i'm sure there's some there's some fatigue here he's got almost hit another gear to get into The rest of the season so would it. Would it surprise you if we saw tired arm. Ten ten ten day. I l stint for d'amico her mind so that he could get his body going again. Just rest rusty arm and then see where they land. We're not super. Nothing would surprise me tired arm. Tired arm is the easiest thing for pitcher because the dead arm business that are that are what are you do. There's nothing to say. there's nothing to see. That was always the allston joke when starting pitcher was struggling. It's like he's got a dead arm. He's gonna miss two starts like mental reset visits those cl- classic in the mid two thousand and the fact that the fact that they could go for a. Let me ask you a question. Do you think that any sticky bowl stuff has something to do with carmont. Struggles specifically binger. Hermann yeah i mean it's definitely release that guy this guy guy this guy. I don't think it's this guy that guy thinking in general offense has been up the last couple of weeks directly correlated. Yeah it's direct runs per game or up since the sticky stuff has been talked about took a direct correlation to why i know what you want to say. No you go get identify who you who you think was affected by its. I think everyone's getting affected. Because i think we learn the more we learn about. The sticky stuff is that it was it was throughout the league. it wasn't us slated to one one or a few guys. It was the entire league using some form of sticky substances. Maybe some guys just preferred the rosin sunscreen or the pine tar and sunscreen like tyler. Glass lied about. Or maybe some guys. We're using the trevor bauer stuff. That was sticking to the palm of his hand that he posted on instagram. Like i i. Don't i don't know what they were using. But they were all using something. Yes so we'll see there's a there's going to be a It's now the pitchers to figure out in the middle of the season. I didn't get to talk about the glass now coming out from last week i feel like i still have. I still have things to say you wanna do. I think that when you're when you're going back and i was. I was listening to the interviews and you see the headlines on what he said. You're like oh come on. What are you doing but then when you go go back and listen to the entire interview and listen to the context of everything not just what the headlines grab from that he's i i don't think he's necessarily blaming it. He's just using he's telling you the whole situation and what happened and then the fact is that he. He stopped after he stopped using it. Things were changed. I understand to a point. The mean the crux of the situation is that this happened. Because i can't you know that's not really what he was saying. He was saying. I had to change my grip and some of the way that was pitchy because it wasn't the and because of that i had fatigue and then and then all of a sudden went so endo facto. You know there was my my now. My elbow is now shattered for because the sticky stuff was not given. I was not able to use it. So i understand what they're saying. They've been able to use this for however long whatever substance he was. Talking about Rosen and scroll frogs sunscreen which has been used for ever forever and the fact that they give you a rising bag out there. I mean there's the whole clay buchholz thing putting it in his hair. Lathering at oliver's body the rosins already out there so they just do a little mixture and then rub their hands and now you have that now you have it. You're good and you could get a better grip on the ball. you can. You can feel it with your figures a little bit more. And the reason they're complaining about it is because the balls come out so slick. There's never been a problem with guys. Scuffing a ball up a little bit. They want a new ball. They like it. They don't want like when the umpires are changing in and out because you get a new ball it is slick. I understand that. There's a working of the ball so that you could get to a comfort point. It's when you start adding those other elements. I understand what they're saying. I do because it's been fine. Everybody's been it's been accepted for so long. Oh i hate the argument that that this is when people say this has been around forever known aroun- despite attack has not been around for. It's not spider tech is just one of the things that's coming out though. Okay but time the bullfrog and the rosin and now even so i don't think so bullfrog and rosin and pine tar use has been around forever and we've never had a problem. So why are we having a problem now. It's because they weren't just using bullfrog in rods. I understand that a lot of using. Yes of course. Something else and tyler glass now whether you believe them or not or garrett cole or on everyone say mcgarrigle flat out said that he used it right so i don't. I don't see a picture. I don't believe tyler glass. Now that he only used the bullfrog and rosin. I don't. I don't believe him when i when i was watching him. Talk about it. It just it's either way whether you were you. Were not what whether you believe them or you don't act like they were telling the truth for a second here and if it was us even that anymore so that that's why it's a pro. It's why you see league-wide more spread. Because not i don't know what percentage of guys are using something like spider attack or you know something that gives you that that that type of grip or how many other guys were just using enough to get a little bit of a grip on the ball so that it's they control and it's not this slick baseball. I don't know what the percentage of the extreme users the guy take advantage of it and then the guys who were just like living within the parameters of what's been okay for a long time. Those are two different stories for me. I asked but the reason why you have the extreme. Why we have the the the the baseball came down on. This is because of the extreme. It's always happens. It's the guys that ticket to the next limit. The guys that that always look those are always the and that's always going to. That's what i talked with. Jeff bloom and david tuttle about to former players and they. Their argument was baseball. Always has this problem. They need to just create a substance that is legal for pitchers to us. And thank you but my answer to them was. Why do you trust that players won't push that envelope because they wish every envelope they'll always gonna no matter what so we're just going to be back here to square one but know what this is is at least that would be baseball saying we acknowledged we understand you empathy empathy. I but what good does that. I walk us. This is like the the the sales approach for everything salesperson empathy. I overcome the barrier. And then you're giving them something. That is a compromise. So you think that what you do is you cut down. You're trying to say okay. You guys are using that. We're not going to give you that because that's way too big advantage entirely too much. But i assure you that the baseball's lick they when they come out because they are forever people been scuffing them up making sure that there's dirt on you do it in little league spit on your hand. You do what you can't get a grip on the ball. That's major league baseball everywhere forever. Always and even when you're in the field of playing softball i'm spitting on my glove. Data a little bit of tackiness. Because when you have dirt and slick leather. That shit is slippery. It gets slippery. So you're making a compromise. Understanding is this is the nature of what it is. You play in dirt. And that's leather combined swick slippery slippery stuff. Nobody wants to get drilled in the head with one hundred dollars fastball. Get grip so you compromised. You make substance that is workable and you police it from there and that's what you can do at least you're finding a middle ground so that hopefully some of these guys that go the extremes understand. There's something that able to use the allows me to get a grip. Maybe it's not as much of a grip as what i would normally use. But at least there's something there's a compromise now. You have harsh harsh penalties for people that go above and beyond and take advantage of it. You can police this..

"Angel. Rotundi and scott ryan. Let's go what's up everybody. Welcome to the. Bronx pinstriped show. This is episode five hundred sixty three even though apple no longer numbers the episodes and spotify does a number of the episode. So i don't know if i should still be numbering the episodes at the top of the show scott. We've been doing that for five hundred plus episodes so i'm part committed at this point. You know it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. But i did it so if if someone who was like. I didn't listen episode. Five hundred sixty two. I gotta go back and listen. I know listening out of order now much. Drop it altogether i scott. What's up so now we i mean. I think we should get credit for these for these for these five hundred sixty plus episodes that are happening here now. Apple doesn't want to tell us that they've done that. that's fine. I think we should still Feed the beast. Keep a consistent. Let's go this. I got question right off the top. Is this the luckiest mediocre baseball team. History because the fact that they've turned three triple plays at. It's not even the end of june yet and we hadn't seen a triple play in over a decade and two of them have been with on the mound in bad situations. Look like the yankees. Were gonna lose those games in the ninth inning and triple play saved their asses delivering around yarn around the horn. Most perfect spot. You could possibly hit for a play to happen with jewish essentially standing on the bag. The ball comes to him. So yeah. that's that's some lucky stuff. When that happens it's it's it's pretty ridiculous but as they say better to be lucky than good and in in small spurts inch in spurts and on occasion When when you when you look at the calendar so far this year. That's what that's what this has been. They've they've been good in smallest bursts they've been going in bunches but you know what hopefully that's a sign hopefully that's assigned because if there is a little bit of luck if there's a little bit of magic if you will Behind this team. Then i hope it. I hope it stays with them and it shows up later in the season. Because you can't explain triple place. I'm sorry you just can't do it now. Everyone always joke so need a triple play here in the of gotten it three times the second one with my king on the mound in in toronto that was like just a breakdown of a play as like a five six. One two three triple play. It's like okay fine. Those are just sort of fluky and random i. I don't know what this is. Just random right. This is just a fluke one of those. You can't predict baseball. Susan moments right. There's nothing about the was.

"This is. This is more to the point why. I didn't want brett gardner. Not that i didn't want record this team. I like brett gardner yada yada gotta throw in. But couldn't frazier deserves to be the starting left fielder for the new york. Yankees and brian cashman essentially said well if he doesn't say that it brings in the ambiguity. Whether it's gardner whomever it is. It doesn't matter who it is. They need to say that because because honestly the way that he did rebound the way that he came back from off the field stuff just like you know he was. He was vilified by by the media. Essentially he did some dumb things but he certainly took steps in becoming much better baseball player. A hell of i mean. He was in the running for a defensive a a gold glove last year. Kogo crazy so he. He went one eighty defense with way that people think about him and you know he just handled himself very well and he and he played well so you. He deserves the job not to mention. He's a young guy coming up who's got all the ability to get better. He needs the reps as well so that he can find himself what he's truly going to be as he's getting into the peak years of his career a guy like brickner should never be in the way of that ever whether it's in your mind or or physically on the field. Did you should not be that way. I think that brett gardner is going to be more to the point of like for some reason you thought the mayhew was going to drag on to- spring training brett gardner. This is set up beautifully for that. Brek owners not gonna get a job anywhere else. He's going to either go with the yankees or he's just gonna you know not retire probably but not sign and he's going to be on the farm for the entire year or he's going to be ready for the yankees to call him in the middle of spring training and say let's go and it's going to be for the minimum and he's gonna come in and play a role you think he'll play for them and i've heard it'll be i'm sure they'll they'll make some little the fluffy deal to that'll be that'll be That'll look better it will. It won't be insulting and it will stay under the make sure that everybody's in good position with the The finances but they just don't need to get it done right now. I don't think why do you think he wouldn't get a job anywhere. I could see both a raise or the blue jays giving him a caucus guys like gardner right now are just. They're not. Nobody wants to pay a guy like this anything. They'd rather give it to get up paying over your so that would do for your organization. I don't see. I mean maybe he will. Maybe i'm wrong here. But i i think that the way that we've seen baseball trending and the way that money has not gone to these Middling veteran guys. They just haven't been getting contracts like at all. There have been guys sitting out because they're not getting the interest anywhere. The teams are rather put a younger guy in there and see if they can build some built some equity with a young guy. That's overplaying what he's the what they're paying for them and at least there's some upside there. There's upside for brett gardner for another team. No you wouldn't be doing it for years of battling a bad week. He's going to be nobody. What is going on the team anymore. Yeah and i guess like wh who was it David doll knee. Get like two and a half million bumped up. Yeah exactly so. I just don't see the more upside guy. He's more upside is younger than gardner. He's a at this. Point is a better player than gardner. Gardner has more leash as a new york yankee more more value as a new york yankee than anywhere else. I certainly argue. So yeah. that's still the case. Obviously okay so so. Maybe you're right. Maybe maybe a tenth we hear. Oh brett gardner came in to yankees camp. He signed he signed for the minimum or he signed for a million bucks. Surprise me. Rosins surprise me. Gardner was a camp like unsigned and he's just like coming in work. And you just shows up in the park and then it's just assume that that's going to happen. Potentially and he's gonna be but they're gonna. They're making it very clear right now. They're making sure that the media understands this all the fans understand what's happening is that so you know cashman saying we liked the roster here the way it's going right now. I could see us walking into the season like this clinton guy all the positive things about him all the support right there and then if if gardner does come on and afterthought it's a it's a depth peace and you know what i'm fine with brett gardner if he's the fifth outfielder. I'm totally fine with that. My problem if brett gardner is resigned then unfortunately because his name is brett gardner and he's been here for twelve years for whatever reason he's going to get more playing time than he deserves. That could still happen. Even even everything. I just said happens is well because once you get into the season and you're on the you're in the clubhouse in the dugout you know aaron boone. Looks around. he sees his guys brecher inserts. Getting getting hot. You know pulling some matt holliday Getting swollen and hidden bombs into into right field. Never know i. But i think there are anointing right now. Could frazier is the starting left fielder which key deserves and good for him. And the doozy comments. Brian cashman amid were about gary sanchez. And the fact that he did that. Espn interview about a month ago. Saying that the yankees never talked to me about why why. I was benched. Brian cashman fires back with..

"Fourteen stephen drew for kelly johnson blah. Son of a bitch nineteen ninety-seven the yankees traded a player to be named later in tony. Our mr boston for randy brown. Who had never heard of mike stanley And then the yankees set. Jim messer zero trade. He was a middle reliever ninety four. They're right you're you're like twenty seven and nineteen. So that's what my bet for knows before. So my memories decent the were you. Actually twenty-seven what year was this. I wasn't even listening to you. Nineteen ninety seven. I was seventeen right. yes you are. Thank you for the admission. The he's purchased the something. The name by the name of scott bankhead from the red sox nineteen eighty-six the yankees traded. Dodd baylor to the red sox for mike easier then nine hundred seventy two names. Don bailer is a player. Mike east learn. How did we not know the red sox. Nineteen seventy-two traded sparky lyle to the yankees for a player to be named later. I mean sparky. Lyle turned into a cy young. Relief pitcher for the yankees. I forgot about that one I've heard i had heard that when you said it. It rang a bell head as as as true my time. Now not gonna go. I'm not going to date myself before my time. So out of will inevitably come into a big situation against the yankees. This year facing judge stanton void sanchez. Throwing frisbee sliders. And i just hope that they don't swing at them. I swear to god if they swing at them. I'm gonna. I'm gonna do something terrible because all they have to do is not swing the bat. It's it and nobody will get a pitch. They will get a or they will walk. One of two things will it. And then shortly. After that trade the yankees signed darren o'day to one point seven five million in two thousand twenty one with a one point four million player option in twenty twenty two or seven hundred thousand dollar buyout so basically the yankees have committed three point. One five million to darren o'day so they offload eight point one five million for auto and they commit three point. One five million to darren o'day who's been very good in his career but has also had some injury issues the last couple seasons and he's thirty was he's he's not young is i mean i'm not saying this is a bad move by any means like it's it's a cheap move and he could be a quality reliever but the bullpen could be an issue. I really do think we're going to start. We're gonna see some young kids up there. And i think that they're gonna. I do think that they're going to change some rolls around. They have a lot of firepower. That bullpens still. i'm not worried about the bullpen. i'm really not. I'm not worried about chapman. Not worried about britain. And i'm not worried about chad green. That's three guys to years ago. We had six guys that we had full confidence in. No it's true and and look where it got us hasn't hasn't gotten us anywhere close to anything so i'm fine too right. Maybe it was. Maybe it was the wrong thing for the yankees at the time to rise relying too heavily on there. It was the wrong thing because they they did. They structured during tire team around the a frequent bullpen. Which is back as words. So it's not a right way to do it this year. At least through and a whole bunch of starting pitchers granted there either old broken or potentially broken or coming back from major personal problems. The horrible guys. He's got elbow problems shoulder. Problems for on problem but violence problems. Unbelievable when you look when you look up and down like dr some kids i. I've brought him up a few times. But nick nelson impressed me. At the end of the year. I can see him stepping up and being A good piece in the bullpen. I know he's got the you know he's he's been stretched out to be a starter as well but i see him as a more of a bullpen peace and again i really really really hope they can find the why ziga and put him in a position to succeed. And that's probably one inning. Let him be a one guy. Let him master to pitches and just be dominic it. Because he's got he's got the stuff for it for sure. I could see him taking that chad. Green stuff this year. Yeah there's going to be more opportunities this year to make roster spots in the bullpen than there have been the past five seasons definitely definitely and and over the way the starting pitching staff the rotation is so deep that not all of these guys are going to be in that rotation you may see towards after the all star break after the trade deadline. Somebody get turned around and put into the bullpen as either a a swing guy or or heck a severino coming in later he may he may come in and be you know a a very integral piece that that is able to go to winnings you know in the the sixth and seventh or the fifth and the sixth and get through the heart of a lineup and then you put in the other guys in the back of the bullpen so it would surprise me if one of those guys that were were talking about right now as a starting pitcher was a was a piece in the bullpen. At the end of the season to there will be injuries as always always injuries ski. You're always going to need seven eight nine start guys to make starts throughout season. That's not going to change the case. And i'm getting more and more excited for clark schmidt in whatever capacity that we see him so if there's a he wasn't on the fan graph projects which i think is a mistake. Finger has been missing. The past to the projections of the american league was stupid. And they've changed that but it was it was a bad projection in the beginning. He's thrown six major league innings. So it's like but you have to look at. I mean there's so many of these considerations that i know you can't go deep in the yankees rotation with their projections..

"It's is important to them okay. Maybe it's not important today that everybody gets us. They're gonna make the playoffs doesn't matter if they had they could throw anybody out there right. They they throw another guy you throw a bunch of dudes out there to start games. Did you get through the game. You you get into the playoffs and then you unleash the stable and you and you go that way and there'll be more off days in the playoffs normally without the bubbles so that actually was even more you have an entire season to get these other guys these these prospects to a point where you're confident that they can come in and perform so they don't need to contribute early in the season they could contribute late in the season. Take you brian cashman You know midseason acquisition by bringing a guy up. I totally agree with you that the rays are not going anywhere in that in two years the we might not even notice blake. Smells gone. But i think for twenty twenty one specifically this is a pretty big hit to them and this helps the yankees out tremendously and it takes the rays from. I would say a fifty fifty to win the next year. That's got to drop them to at least like thirty percent. I think the fact that they don't have morton and they don't have smell they got what michael wocka They're adding some. They've had done they assign What's his face. Jersey boy seton hall. Prep from one young. I can't think of the name right now. Pretty boy who Won a cy young with the red sox who's not good for a five yard career. Selo for sal. Thank you They got him to right. So i think they added boy jersey boy. He's a pretty appreciate. You went to see. Prep they. The i just i feel like they. They pull shut out of out of out of a hat and and they're good like they'll get innings from from these guys they'll figure out like michael walker is gonna come and return to form and all of a sudden. Be my walk from like early. Saint louis days. It's going to piss me off and probably gonna happen though. Yeah and and the padres certainly are going. You know what we need more right handed right handed arms. We don't need this leftie. Serve our purpose in the american league. East scared of the The padres i mean not that the yankees really are going to be. I don't know if they do. They see the padres next year. I don't know their interleague schedule but They got you darvish as well at least that trade is is in the works as of tuesday morning and they signed a caribbean infielder. Hocine king when. I saw the idea of funny watching you try to say it hossam kim. So the padres man. They're they they're riding. That wave of two thousand twenty. They're gonna they're really going forward if the rotation because they also got What's his name haddock when they No but clovinger. He's he did he have. Yeah he's out they have. They have arms they had a another young davies who they did trade to chicago along with a bunch of prospects. I think were i. Don't think any of them number eleven in their organization for yu darvish that that deal is done. It's it's it's pretty wild that they're they're they're definitely going for it. There's no doubt about it. They're going for it. The crazy thing about being a padres fan is an you know once you expand the playoffs. It's different once. You get into playoffs understandable. It's different but you're almost like understanding that you're not gonna gonna win the division right like you're doing all of these things you're you're making. You're making these trader but you're still not better than the dodgers but what does it matter. That's the thing like it doesn't but it's it's a new mindset right like you don't have to win the division you don't even have to really necessarily compete for the division It's not as important. It's not it's not part of the strategy. You just got to get into the playoffs. You just gotta especially now because the first is a wildcard three-game series even if you win the division and that's a crap shoot anyway. Yeah you'll be playing that at home instead of on the road. But if you're the padres you can go in there with three stud pitchers into a wildcard series. Who cares if you're not the division winner right. That's how that's how baseball is trending. So that's how the padres are going to build their team and it's looked at davig eighteen. Dan gustin there's some there's some studs machado now is looking like a genius for going over there. They obviously told them. Hey we're going to spend a ton of money. We got this kid. Who's going to be one of the best baseball players in the league with at t's junior and they're exciting you know Slammed the out they got. They got a. They got a good thing. Going there so You know we'll see if they can get past the dodgers in the In the in the national league. But it's a it's a lot definitely thrown out and they're going for it for sure you want to finish up with the documentary under the grapefruit tree. The story was on. Hbo it aired about a week ago. We said we're gonna watch it. I watched it last night. And you know i got i gotta admit i didn't think it was going to be good and not because i just didn't think there was enough juice. Their with cece and maybe only yankees fans would find this really interesting. But i think his story even if you were not a yankees fan Was very interesting. And i don't. I didn't know it went that deep. So that's why. I found the documentary better than i was expecting it to be. I definitely think anybody any sports fan. watch this and and is a bigger fan at. The end is definitely intrigued by the story. I don't think him being on the yankees really has anything to do with the the sports fan watching because this was a human story. The story was about a person who was struggling and had to overcome obstacles from from you know from childhood and and did and got to the ultimate prize got to the ultimate pinnacle of her career won the ultimate prize in a world series. You know he basically every single accolade you could possibly imagine and along the way she found some really really dark places we so. I didn't know what to expect going into this. I'll say what a what. I'll say what i was expecting. It didn't happen. i was definitely expecting. We talked about this before when we heard it was coming out. I was expecting more behind the scenes footage of of the year. I thought there was. I was there was going to be more of like a crew with him in that final year. And just like you know seeing more moments behind the scenes with him in players him in like doing different on the road. Like i thought it was going to be more of a story of of the year but also told with the context and the backstory of everything that happened to him. And you know why. I was such a special your knowing that it was his last year. So it was unexpected to me. It seemed like it was filmed in like two days three day. You know like a short amount of time they were. They went and interviewed everybody after the recently. It seemed like they happen very recently. Because he was jacked at that that last seen him walking with With his family so they definitely recorded but it seemed like they filmed it that part over the summer because it looked nice and warm out because if they have recorded the entire thing. That's what that's what. I'm saying like those interviews could have been all post. There was nothing it didn't seem your ford during and that's where we're talking about like the yankees probably out this while they didn't let the cameras then clearly like there were a few days because there were cameras because the cameras were there when he got his three thousand strikeout. There were cameras there. When it was the day there were cameras there at old time. I don't know if those were his cat Hbo cameras though. They could have just acquired footage from cameras. That were there. I mean the three thousand was definitely. Hbo cameras because they literally had footage of him like hugging his cousins and stuff like why would just a random camera be there because it was a big deal. It doesn't matter whether they decided to do it after the season or not. It doesn't matter. I just thought that it was going to be more behind the scenes So that was the difference in what i thought. It was really really good to hear a story. I think we knew a lot of the story. I knew a lot of the story. The whole baltimore kind of forgot some of the stuff about the more weekend. The two thousand. Yeah so it came back to me. But he went on a forty eight hour bender in the end of two thousand fifteen was so blackout drunk in baltimore like basically lost track of a weekend and then was too drunk to throw a bullpen session and that was when he kind of realize..

"What if it's forty games into the season. He's hitting under two hundred. It's like they're not gonna stick with another of edits it. He's got to get off to a hot start and and it's just we'll plenty of players. Don't get off to a hot start. A forty game slump isn't the end of the world in a for normal player but forgets inches. It could end his yankees career. It very well could it very well could at the end of the day it just. It's hard for me to wrap my head around a player who is a starting who's the starter on a team. Entrench starter like no doubt clear. Cut starter who is then slowly getting his job taken away from him and he just sits there and lets it happen. I don't understand that your professional athlete. How can you possibly let that happen. Not not the p- not let it happen. But how could you just sit there and allow things to happen without some kind of explanation. Well yeah ya gotta hope. He uses this as a learning experience as i said. I'm not super hopeful. I am not super hopeful that this relationship is going to work out in the end. We'll see his talents there. There's no doubt fuck thirty. One forty can leave the fucking want done. We'll talk about the padres stuff. And then the cece. Well the best thing to happen to the yankees so far. This offseason is the padres decided that they no longer want to be competitive in the al east. Letting charlie morton walk and then trading away. That's about aspects. Yeah sorry the raise trading away to the padres blake snell There were rumors at the at the very beginning of the offseason. That they were going to shop blake. Snell i didn't know if they would act. I didn't think they would actually trade it. Because i didn't see how an organization that was just in the world series trades away their best starting pitcher but they did it. Okay so i am. I'm a little. I'm a little scared of these moves to be honest. If i'm if. I'm being completely frank here. I think this is going to be a problem. Because blake's was not really a big problem for the new york yankees two years. It's going to be a problem maybe into my beers that'd be a bigger problem before the these they have a couple they got a couple of prospects that are going to be getting up here pretty quick. They got a top pitching prospect. Louis battino teen. He's twenty one six foot right. Hander sits at ninety seven miles an hour. Looks like debbie. Garcia make up. Why devastating slider but then they got a pitching prospect who is much lower on the boards in two catching prospects. This this was not the like getting austin meadows and tyler glass now for for chris archer this is not that kind of trade. No but we could look at it differently in a year or two depending on how these guys do and the way that the rays at tina turns into a top five pitcher in baseball than we're like well shit right. Yeah and the raise of proved that they can do that and they also have proved that they get a lot from guys that some teams just won't get so. I have zero confidence to say that these guys will not be effective. I do think they will be effective and probably longer than blake. Snow would be so. Yeah i think that they can. What about twenty twenty. Why they can raise. We're going to be a problem. It hurts their chances to win the division in two thousand hartson. And especially when you get rid of morton and you get rid of smell like that's that's a that's a unique glass now to very much very much. Need him to stay healthy now. But there's a strength their strength was there pitching and yes they have a very deep pitching staff and they bullpen their way through the plan and everything but those kind of anchored by three good starting pitchers and now they only have one now. They have some younger kids. Who are probably gonna come up. Maybe pitino starts in the major leagues. Who the hell knows but not having snell there. I think is a big issue. Even if you say the yankees always hits. Melanie was never a major issue for the yankees. Snow is a great pitcher. Who won them a lot of games. There's no doubt. I just. I have a feeling it. It seems to me that the razor confident and what's coming up they're confident and maybe moving guy from the bullpen into a starting rotation could see that and an your yarborough and who is the other guy that pitched like every year every five minutes for them in the playoffs. I just think that there's there's a a number of these guys anderson that they believe could probably make that transition and they already have that in their minds. So i have a feeling that the rays don't think that they're playing chess. The raisel don't think the. I think the team believed they can withstand any loss any loss and be very competitive again and and i. I don't think the wrong. I think they can't i think they absolutely can. So does this change to me like what the rates are at the end of the day not really. It doesn't look like snell is a very good pitcher. There's no doubt he was cy young. Two years ago zaslov in the playoffs. I think there was a little bit of like. Hey i'm not happy. Do you think there's anything to do with the world. I think there was some him is that he he made waves after being probably did and they're like oh you're not on board with our analytics. I approach ship. You're replacing 'cause we got nerds. Who who can make think yes exactly they. They don't look at names. They just look at statistics. And they'll find someone else to fill those statistics and so i would not be surprised and in salary was affordable to another team like the padres. They're getting a top-flight pitcher for very affordable salary. Over the next three years. I would not be surprised if if they have somebody come up and does well or they go back to what they were doing and they bullpen more often because they got away from that they remember they were good without any starting pitching also they. They have the depth to do that and they did it. Throughout the season and with the playoffs expanding does the starting pitcher really matter as much anymore. I'd argue. no. I'd argue that having a number one guy when you have the bullpen. With the way that they do the way that they play their game that top-flight starting pitcher is just not as important so throw as many arms that are quality ineffective as you possibly canada team and they will. How can you say that. How can you say that after watching what happened in the playoffs with the yankees and not any starting pitching after one starting am talking about this team specifically in the way that they have the depth in their bullpen. I don't think it's is important to them okay. Maybe it's not important today that everybody gets us. They're gonna make the playoffs doesn't matter if they had they could throw anybody.

"Question fun with food, So I really enjoy your money matters and mistakes were made and TV guide and me time and I'm sitting there going We got a listener right now, like you don't all the categories and this is coffee. Can who text in all the time. So what's going on out there tonight in the text goes on. Since everyone chooses fun with food, I guess I'm just not much of a foodie unless you count grape nuts, which is an amazing comment, because, yes, grape nuts. They get a bad rap. I hope Rod Brooks is listening. He's not They get a bad rap. You just gotta leave him in the milk longer. It's an acquired taste. You've got to do it. You got to do it. But fun with food is not the only question. It's the flagship question, right? That's kind of the way I That's the way I would say it. That's like his Buster Posey, the only giant No, just the biggest name right now. Uhm and who don't like that fun with food, So people choose it a lot, so I'll give you a little teaser on Brandon Crawford. Fun with food is one of the options, but so is mistakes were made. So it's up to Brandon. It's up to Brandon. What happens next? After that? It is the non Tender deadline across major league baseball just two hours ago. So right now we're sifting through a lot of information and ah lot of maybes. Ah, lot of hey, that might fit or hey, that's a surprise. Didn't know he was going to be available. I guarantee you Farhaan Zaidi and Scott Harris, and the whole gang right now are are knee deep in the information. As far as the Giants are concerned, just one non tender and it is Tyler Anderson, which you could make the case is a little bit of a surprise for a team. That says we're going out for starting pitching. This off season. That is our big need. We're even hearing that beyond the Giants themselves. They've admitted it, but In terms of the reporters who are talking to agents and conversations that are going on behind the scenes Right now, there are a lot of people saying that the Giants are not just in on starting pitching their aggressive on starting pitching right now, so to give up one of your starting pitchers Who is also one of the few left handed pitchers on your roster. Yeah, maybe a little bit of a surprise, Not a shock, not something that's going to really like, Turn everything over and shake it out. But Tyler Anderson, a non tender for the Giants, Trevor got among those who did end up getting a contract. They agreed on arbitration figures with a few guys got was one of them. Dickerson was another Darren Rough was another will get you the full list a little bit later on in the hour. I also want to mention by the way as we do this That In a way it can be ours the number and if you've got any Giants, thoughts or questions that you want to throw out, let's do it. You are invited us always ate away came here are the number now. As far as names that hit the market today, the two big names being tossed around War Kris Bryant. And Gary Sanchez. Both of them have been tendered a contract by the Cubs and Yankees, respectively. So those guys they're not free agents they're not available. However, That does not mean that in particular, the Cubs are not going to trade Chris Brian. That is long been a possibility it continues to be on the Giants could be on a short list of teams. Interested. I would love to get Chris Brian on this team. My gosh, that would be fantastic. There's versatility. There. He can play multiple positions. He's young, He's right handed power. Bat fits perfectly in Oracle Park. That would be interesting, but You're gonna have to give something up, and the Giants right now are not too high on giving up big time prospects so we shall see, but it's been thrown out there. Couple other interesting names. Cubs also nontendered Jose Martinez, another right handed power bat has been linked to the Giants in rumors before over the last couple of years. Nothing that ever got too hot. But I know for one, For instance, Larry Krueger. He loves the guy who's tweeting about him earlier, really wants the Giants to go after him and get him. He's a big time, right headed power bat. Had a really rough go of it when acquired by the Cubs last year, But but he has been a successful power bat in the big leagues for a number of years before that, so that's Interesting name Adam DeVol, former giant nontendered by the brave so he is now available, Ken Rosenthal says the breath the Braves do you want to consider resigning? Duval, but they want to do it. At a lower number, and they're also waiting on assurances that the D H is coming to the National League. That by the way, real quick. Whoa! Like here we are non tender deadline. Free agency is is all over there. There's signings happening on a daily basis. It seems the National League you're trying to put their squad together without knowing if there's a D ate bizarre to me. Bizarre. Why? Why can't we get an answer on that? And I know there's a There's a bargaining chip going on there between players and owners and all of that, but That one seems odd to me. And quite frankly, I mean, I've already waved the white flag on that even as a lifelong national leaguer who believes that nine players go out in the field and nine players come up and hit But I've given up on this.

"But the then you realize like, Oh, I can't see anything happening in Lafayette. Yeah. All I really wanted. was someone to hit a ball against the wall. So I can hear and got that. So that was cool. The guy that broke in was screaming freedom and then Boston loves New York he mentioned nine eleven and the Boston Marathon bombing. So as crazy as he is I, think he actually had a positive message to the whole thing. Was it I don't know. Yeah the. Can Trust the guys message when they're when they're that I duNno Lunatic. But think about how old that places does not surprise me that anybody can break in. The next question's from Eric. Oh God. This last name and he's a regular caller is that how you say showing sank off? Okay. Sorry. Eric Eric S. I've talked to a bunch to. How do you think the Yankees will react to the new mets ownership do you think there will be a reaction? No. See Buster Onlys. Article not I didn't read it but I saw the tweet he that guy you're you're now supporting that I only saw it because Nick Nick Kirby from Georgia's box replied to it but the it was The message of the article was why Steve Cohen Should Steal Brian? CASHMAN. From the Yankees Oh boy. The how do we react to it? I don't have a reaction it I mean I guess it's a good thing for the mess because now they have a lot a lot of money and they're not going to be as you know. Dependent on on on bad contracts or reliant on bad contracts and not being able to move do things I. Don't know why I mean they always had money I, think put what they're. Now they have an owner who's not afraid to spend the money. That's really that's that's the point of having money's the ability. Spend it. So to me if you`re Not able to spend it. It's not there they had money every anybody who owns a franchise has money, but we'll know because like the the devil rays literally cannot have two hundred, million dollar payroll. The mets can have two, hundred, million dollar payroll the Wilpon just refuse to spend money on on in certain situations Steve Cohen's not gonNA. Refuse if anything they've going. Here's the point Steve Cohen by the Tampa Bay. Race they could have a two hundred, million payroll. Well. I don't know that he would be willing to do that with any team i. mean you have the mets, their New York franchise there's so much merchandise licensing the. Revenue that comes with being a New York franchise that is not there with a with a Tampa franchise. WHO KNOWS COUPLE NEW MARKETING MARKETING SCHEMES? You get the right people in there. Some big names might find some people still a lot of people in the area. So yeah, as far as like the reaction. I don't know. If I'm being picked. Because I wanted to own. that. That's where that's racist much more excited. If era was only because I wanted to see what would happen that for no other reason just to see entertainment. Baseball, entertainment? Yeah. That's the type of entertainment, I? WanNa. See from the mets. Last one from Kyle Radley he's a regular regular emails better I believe it was the off season after two, thousand, eighteen one of you proposed a trade for Donaldson Lemay who is having a great year. What were the details of that proposal? It was actually after the two thousand nineteen season. I. Propose the Yankees Send Clint Frazier and J hop while eating half of hops money for Donaldson Lemay and justified it because the padres are rebuilding and or trying to compete which they are competing this year they need outfield help because they didn't have good outfield in two thousand and nineteen and they need veteran starting pitcher and for eight million dollars maybe Jay half about that well. Doesn't matter who they offer. Donelson limit has been one of the best pitchers in the national. League. So at least give me credit for identifying that Donelson. Lemay had good staff had talent. was he a number two prospect in their system at that point? Nine. Now because he he had been like he had pitched in a few seasons and like had injury issues ed so like he wasn't really like a high end prospect for them he was he was like probably if I had to guess a ten ish prospect for them. Okay. So you're looking at Oh Yeah. Because he was up in seventeen did he have Tom Surgery after that? Is that what happened I think so two, thousand, nine, hundred looking at the even the game started for him I mean he's at four seventy. You're you're basically this share I'm looking at it right now but you're you're to to to to almost two era. strikeouts per nine drake outs per nine is. Eighty nine strikeouts per sixty five innings. That's decent. But it's also you know he's in the National League who knows the Yeah D. H.. Dow. I will I will give you the fact that he's a he's a he's a good player. That's that's a good pitcher. I'm not giving the frazier. For I would give up Clint. Frazier. Kidding me for a number one pitcher. Yes. Absolutely. But for the way the J.. The difference maker around on the playoffs without you. Know if they got Donaldson Dlamini was pitching to a two year ray striking out eighty nine batters in sixty five innings. The Yankees would be just fine. Yeah. Here's the thing. The whole point of the trade by the trade was bad was that San Diego wouldn't make that trade. I guess not. That's why I'm not a baseball manager Scott. That's GonNa do it for this episode continued to submit your questions four games against the Blue Jays. So I think they said that Tanaka coal we're going to make their starts this week, but it's going to be their last starts of the season. So they're gonNA have extra rest before the playoffs. Yeah. They're concerned aren't they also giving them a day an extra day wasn't that the topic of conversation giving them an extra day before the starts as well so Six days. Technically, coal should be pitching Monday today, but it's going to be I think Michael Caine and then so Kobe pitch Tuesday Tanaka Wednesday but then they're going to have extra days off before their next starts, which will be against the twins cutting down, cutting it down for for. The start on the back end. Concerned at all about Tanaka extra, Tanaka. Great. We have seen that be fine or at least a net neutral impact for him. I not worried about the amount of alcohol use either. But like what if Garrett Kohl's rusty and into talk is like, oh, he's he's extra rests he did he's a creature habit. That's why he's missing location on his fastball who cares about the talk the thing is is that this guy is going to be prepared. So freaking well for this game that. It doesn't matter to me. He could have ten days restaurants..

"To talk about Brett Gardner for a second. So He. Boone still some third like I know like she was a had an off-day Stanton heads off days over the weekend. But when Brett Gardner heading ahead of Luke void in the lineup I, think there's a problem you agree with that. Yeah. He's not supposed to be sitting in front of him. Right. So but but a change mix it up and throws in another bad. You know lefty bat breaks up the breaks up the right he's even if all the writers are great hitters and I don't care if Luke Voi- Hulu, look voice facing like get me Luke voice to the plate right now not Brett. Gardner but Brett Gardner has turned to seize around. He's now got a one zero, nine WRC plus an point four war on the season. Okay. So he's turned his season around enough to where he's positive on both of those statistics. Maybe. Maybe it was because he throw him into the number three spot. In maybe it's because he stole Clint Frazier's. To Click Frazier Stole Brick garters job in the Brett Gardner Stole Clint Frazier's Mock Turtleneck. So Fine I. Guess he got back at them for that. Doesn't matter Brett. Gardner has turned the season around great like if he's playing well, that's better news for the Yankees I'm sure they'll use them in certain spots in the playoffs but Clint Frazier's the Guy Right. Now, still should be in the playoffs game one game to every game. The playoffs compression needs to be starting in left field right? Absolutely. There's no doubt about it. He's the better player. But do you think Brett Gardner has turned his season around enough to where the Yankees are like you know what? Probably? GonNa have some injuries next year that. Option garners contract or it's ten or nine or ten or eleven million dollars in Breck orders contract else up I think they're going to do that. it. It wouldn't surprise me completely, but it would surprise me at the same time for staying that. The age is what gets me every single time like you guys that are that show the ability to play? Let's let's let's go there. Yeah. Estimate, some point you have to move on and it feels like you're gonNA be tough 'cause he's a lifetime Yankee and he's not concerned. That's the thing. He's not going to be a starter and he wasn't really supposed to be a starter the last two years and he's turned into starter because of injuries right so if he's if he's a bench guy that's coming in and playing again, earn Hicks also there's there's the they're all injury prone and everyone you're right but yeah. Here's the answer. If you believe in my talk meant then probably not if you don't believe in Mike Cochran then there's a very good chance that they still they bring him back on a one year contract. Do you think the Yankees believe in talk meant? I'm I think that they believe in him as a fourth fifth outfielder. Okay but that's what he's going to be. He can play all three outfield positions well, and if Clint Frazier's left. Hicks in center judge in right and I still I'm okay if they go if they wanna like. Come up with rotation in right field. For Judge, Stanton where they opt the opposite D. H. is maybe that's the the approach to go like each gets eighty games in each get seventy five games in the outfield and seventy five games at D. H. and they play one, hundred, fifty games if all goes well. Maybe that's the way. But if you have those three outfielders and then you have talked about is the fourth outfielder. I don't see how Burkhard you would pay Brett Gardner ten million dollars to be a fourth or fifth outfielder. He said he wants to play. He was asked about twenty, twenty, one I would love to play. The season hasn't gone how I wanted from a number standpoint but recently, I felt much better a definitely don't want my last games played to be in front of no fans I would love for my family drove a chance to see me play again. How you gonNA feel if he's playing for the the Kansas, city royals or the Seattle Mariners. TEMP. Tampa, Bay might sign them. The yeah. No, it's. It's. It's it's going to be a weird thing. But at the same time you have to look at this get nostalgic about. Guys when you're when you're trying to put out the best team so I I mentioned that they. They see talk then I think do believe him as a fourth fifth guy the problem is that when people get hurt now it's got to play every day and he becomes he hasn't proved he could do that this year but he proved he could do it last year he proved does the only time ever ever ever that he's that he's had production isolated time. So I'm really really really have a hard time going back to that every time when everybody's like Oh mytalk was this like literally the guy was in Mike Trout conversations with a bunch of the nerds and. I think the writing I think cash within his nerds like Mike Talk I think they do as well and that's why they that's why they went out and got him. But at the same time, is he a guy that? That can be sustained. Those numbers cannot thick they just can't be sustained. He's not that guy he he's he's more of an in between he's a defensive replacement. It's got a little bit of a bet. So, then do the Yankees go into the season assuming they're going to have injuries because they are like we're. There's just gonNA. Be Injuries with this team and we say, well, we're going to need garden because he's going to need to play one hundred games at some point. Again, I can see them going either way. Really it's a tough one for me. It's a, it's a toss up. If IT'S A. It's it's a really really really big toss up because I know how the Yankees work and I know cashman works and he likes his veteran guys and Brett. Gardner is it doesn't doesn't seemingly look like he's breaking down physically at all the guy's phenomenal shape. He can do a lot of things he could come in and play the outfield. Well, he's a guy that you'd have confidence plugging in on on on a day where someone else can't start like i. feel like they would have a lot of confidence in that guy. Sure Tour I. The I'm leaning if he ends the season well on leaning towards that, they just have to figure out this jumbled mess in the in the outfield and they do resign him. But I think Clint Frazier taking the job firmly. Means Gardeners. Chances of coming back are less and less likely for sure. There's there needs to be a caveat in this whole thing could frazier needs to be the starting left fielder every day. That's that's his job. Yep, there's no. No question about that, and it's also insane right now like if you want to nitpick the lineup like wise Brett Gardner hitting ahead of Clint Brett, Gardner. Should be hitting ninth if he's in the lineup. It's fine. You know whatever they the lineup. The construction of the lineup I'm not even getting not worried about it because I know a boon does he changes things up just for the mere fact of changing things up. Okay. But for food legs. Having, Frazier turn it over in in the nine spot. Game One of playoffs. Everyone is is healthy. Knock on Wood how you organizing the lineup. I'm growing based on the we'll have to see WHO's pitching. I, think that's potentially a factor I. Don't think that really matters because if. You're asking me if I'm Aaron Boone, I'm playing Aaron Boone. It Matters I. got to see that guy is and it depends on the you who are you substituting? Match up you might wonder for that left the in their. My wonderful that leftover who who, who's GonNa Start over we just said he's not starting over guard over clint frazier or Aaron Hicks not starting over Aaron Judge Giancarlo Stanton I mean. There are there disagreement in the lineup that I would not make I would have. Hicks. In the leadoff spot. That's not. Because of his on base percentage I want you in a situation in the first inning to put up some runs like. So. I was on that when judge and state and were out and I was like why not just go Hicks voight then limit Hugh but if all of the guys are healthy Beautiful to hitter. But it does kind of an old school to to hitter though that's like a nine, hundred, ninety, nine, two, hitter Nata two, thousand and twenty two anyway. Yeah. But he's not ninety, nine, two hundred that hits you know twenty, five, hundred, the season now. I am. Now I think I'm board with Hicks. Ninth. Lemay I judge second voight third. Giancarlo Fourth Gleyber. Fifth. Clint Frazier Sixth Gio Shelhah, seventh Gary Sanchez Eighth, and then Hicks. So you literally have all right handed hitters in a switch hitter. But those are your nine best hitters are the guys I just mentioned. Yeah and that's fine with me. I mean either way you're going to put them up at the top I just like the construction of when Aaron getting good good pitches when he's got all of those guys behind him, he's going to get pitches to hit and if he doesn't, he's GonNa take a walk..

"But if Tanakh is out there in a four run game at eighty seven pitches, you probably don't pull him but no matter what it seemed like the last couple of years the Yankees would pull their starter at at that point right but in. But in a one run games, sometimes you gotta pull him. Sometimes, it just doesn't work out sometimes. Given release for situations lead and it doesn't give a baseball situation in a in a particular matchup. Okay. I'm fine with that that that's that's that's kind bucking what we're talking about as far as that's the exception. For overall strategy is you know that they would pull him that's the strategy. If a given situation called for something else and though and everything lined up beautifully, and you know it was it was the ideal scenario they would keep him in but that just didn't happen very often. So you said a a switch was flipped and it was kind of flipped when afoot to me a switches flip on and off like a circuit on and off. To me this was like a dial you know the digger at twenty, five percent up to like fifty per they. They turn the novel a little bit so that strategy was tweaked. Yeah, I think they probably the the nerd department probably had a formula that said on when each pitcher reaches this number of innings under their belt than you can start turning the KNOB and extra five percent ten percent seriously I think I think that the KNOB was. The KNOB was guarded by NERD. Someone else. Give a backhand to the nerds flap the nerd across the room and turn the dial. That's what I think. Okay Well Adami way turning the dial I. that's I think Phil Nevin walked into the walked into the room. Busted some people up and turn the damn now dial that's what I think. I think that with the nerd see Phil Nevin coming into the room ready to give them wedgies. They all have a panic attack and it's like someone press someone presses a red button and it just locks down the room. So Phil Nevin can't kick the door down just give swirlies to all the nerds. Phil Neville. Nightmare yes. Yes That's how the got turned in my in my mind. I on the offense I, it was. It was a little frustrating that the Yankees scored all those runs and then went to fenway and seem seem to forget how to hit for that Friday night game but they did come back Gary Sanchez I test versus nerd tests will be about Gary Sanchez Yeah we need to talk about him. You WanNa do I versus tests right now, we can talk about Gary Sanchez. The nervous back in and or. Have Bruce Confidence from Phil Nevin. Let's talk about them. So we would. You agree that Gary Inches looks a lot better at the plate recently. Yes, I will agree. So he had a huge night Friday night. He had the double in the seventh inning to get them close, and then he had the game tying home run in the ninth inning missile over over the green monster to tie the game. Probably the the most the biggest hits of his season I guess you could say the Grand Slam off of the mets and extra innings. But as you so aptly pointed out, he got three batting practice fastballs and finally connected on right That was hit. So his stats, the the NERD test back it up Gary Sanchez looks a lot better at the plate. So gimme a second to go through some of these numbers from the start of the season in July through September seventh I know I'm just picking an arbitrary date but through September seventh yet one, hundred, fourteen plate appearances cleared thirteen hits. To thirteen hits. How many walk in that time? Yeah. I mean he had a nine point, six percent walk rate, which has a walk rate isn't isn't the worst in the world but forty two percent k rate, which is astronomical. He was hitting one thirty, his WRC plus was sixty his weighted on base average was to fifty there. There's no numbers in here even as slugging percentage was terrible three fifty, I know he hit seven home runs out of thirteen hits but he didn't get any hits really. So just terrible numbers all the way around. He was trying to pull the ball so much he was pulling the ball fifty seven percent of the time. His hard hit contact was only thirty, six percent. He had nineteen percent soft contact, forty, four, percent museum contact. Going through some of these other numbers like just just terrible terrible numbers all the way around. But then in his last forty, four plate appearances since September seventh. He is he is hitting two. Oh, five th not really that much better. But he a one, sixteen WRC plus his strikeout percentage is down to twenty two percent, which shows me better at bats his exit velocity. Is actually still about the same. But when you're not striking out that means pitch recognition is better his. His hard hit percentage is up to fifty five percent up from thirty, six percent. So I just see a lot of things like still not fantastic still not peak Gary Sanchez. But a lot of these things look way better from an approach perspective from a comfort level from from everything level. And hopefully, hopefully, they continue to rise because it does I mean. This team is better when Gary Sanchez is playing and playing well, not not just playing playing well, when Gary Sanchez is showing the player that he can be yet the team is better. It's just it's been a very long time since this guy has shown in a consistent manner and forty four plate appearances when we're looking at the numbers while while better, they were coming from complete dog shit and you look at the the the better numbers and them in isolate them and you're looking at. You're looking at just those numbers like Tom Gary Sanchez was struggling in those forty four plate appearances. Compared to what he was doing. Improvement, but that's the thing like you look at what he what he has been, and then you look at those forty-four Damn. He's been struggling like what's going on with Gary Sanchez but still even though he's only hitting two five in those forty, four plate appearances one, sixteen WRC plus sixteen percent better than league average the the pay to strike out the strikeout percentage is one thing. That pops out to me when I'm looking at these numbers that you pulled is the opposite is Otto percentage. The poll percentage is about the same from the the one, hundred and forty, one, hundred and fourteen plate appearances at fifty-seven percent in the last forty four is poll percentage of fifty, five percent. So they're pretty close but the one to the big difference here is otto percentage from seventeen percent up to twenty, almost twenty percent, and that means he is recognizing those those pictures out you know over the plate or on the other side of the plate and now. He's not waving at them, but he's actually putting the ball putting the bat on the ball and you know putting those either into the stand in right field or he's actually been getting some base hits. You know going with the pitch actually recognition picking it up and and going the other way, and you see that approach with a lot of the Yankees..

"That is a rare commodity to be ableto have when you have a guy that can go 33 90 hit 34 home runs and an injury plague season like he did a year ago. When you have that kind of a guy that is a commodity, so yes, organizations are goingto have greatly way give him above and beyond opportunity to show that he could do what they need him to do behind home plate. He is. They are enamored about what he can provide offensively from that position, because if I throw Gary Sanchez in as a D h. I can find a lot of guys in Major League baseball as a D h. They're going to hit me 32 35 home runs in a year. What makes Sanchez special. What makes him different is that he can go hit 34 home runs from the catching position. That's what makes him different. So that is the commodity the Yankees are enamored with. That's what they're trying to uncover. They want him to be consistent, and that's why I've said time and time again and this morning, time and time again that I would not give up on Gary Sanchez and move away from him Because I can find a lot of big hitting first baseman. I can find a lot of big hitting D. H is that can fill that role. The problem you have is it's hard to find guys even Realmuto isn't the power hitter that Gary Sanchez is I confined. I can't find a lot of guys that can do offensively. What Sanchez Khun do from that position. I understand that, but ask yourself on a stack team where I know it's been a little bit tougher against the Rays Rays of really good pitching. They weren't hitting. Maybe as much as you'd like to see. But ask yourself on a TV that has so many weapons. Does that become the premium of what you need from that position? I understand That's what makes scary sentences value greater than the basically every other catcher in the majors. I understand that, but ask yourself And I think what the Yankees could be asking themselves is is he the right catcher for the team we have right now is he has he reached the ceiling? Is he going to be able to put it together in a way that we've seen before for an extended period of time? Is he the right catcher for right now? Is he the right catcher for us to get to the world? Siri's in tow, win it so that those are the questions we're asking, not weather. Gary Sanchez is special or not. Is he the right catcher for the For right now? You're not going anywhere. Where you going? No, I mean next year. Sorry if you have real moto out there, That's what that's why I brought it up because you have a top of the market catcher who is available. I think I get it. The Yankees yesterday. If you want to bring up yesterday is a perfectly decent point. The Yankees as a team were over eight with runners in scoring position. They left nine guys on base. Sanchez only had one of those plate appearances. There were other guys in that in that lineup that did fail. Now you want to look at him. He's hitting eighth in the lineup right now. Right? Boon dropped him to the order isn't 103 I'm not going to make any excuses for him. He's been downright terrible. He has been and I get. He's the guy that Yankee fans are going to look at because of he has been a consistent talking point. But he is not the reason why the Yankees struggled yesterday. Offensively, they'll have nine guys on base. They've got to be better than that. But you know what happened yesterday, The Rays did. What they usually do was was, you know they were able to come back on the Yankees a little bit, and also you saw the scenario late in the game. But the Yankees had numerous opportunities numerous opportunities to score more runs yesterday than they did You know what it all adds up to Yankees actually could use the day off. They get the day off tonight. Mets are playing tonight, Moose and I will get into Johannes. Suspicious. Oh, your guys the only thing that could cause moose. More pleasure in this life is a vacation. Couple trips to the ice cream shop with the kids, Johnny Beautiful, just waiting, waiting. Tohave me have to take a massive l for thinking that you and assess Pittis. I was going to be a big part of the Metsseason. I'll tell you the blood my right out about that. The bloody Mary was mighty good that morning when that when that scenario is unfolding, it's not even so much about separatists. It's moose knowing that I was going to have to say I was wrong. This is what boost lives. No, no, no, no, It's not that I want to hear from. What was it I forget. I went back and forth with the caller. Hector. I think in Washington knights who called up and talked about cess Pittis. How dare you get on him? Ah, yeah, I want to hear from all the U. N is to supporters out there. That possibly went out there and said, Here he comes. How dare you doubt him? He's motivated, ready to go in 2020. Where's Hector Washington Heights as well. There's two points on sess Pittis. I'm gonna make you come back two points on sess Pittis that I will make when we come back while Moose Has a bleep eating grin on his face that you see straining d o double G. This is the happiest, most spirited but what a dog says this is. I'll tell you that what a dog! We'll get into it. We'll do that. Next. It's Moussa. Maggie will get into the Magi points as well. But we'll get into the cess pit is back and forth. E what the Mets New one did they know what their statement that which they got ridiculed for? We'll get into all that..

"And be the player that we've seen more than just glimpses ofthe here in New York. I think you're gonna live to regret it. So you've got nowhere else to turn here. You have dropped him in the batting order. You hope that he is able to find his way at some point in time, Maggie, but Listen, I would be. I'd be hard pressed where I'm going to make significant judgments on really talented players. Even if Sanchez's struggles to continue being where the hell else are you gonna go? No, but see, That's the thing right and with you on, I don't think you're drawing these major conclusions from this season because it's so wonky, and it's just so different. However, I think for a lot of Yankee fans out there, this is not drawing a conclusion. This is confirming if you will. This is not like, you know, saying, Listen, you know he he's been great. But in the 60 game season it really just like showed us something that we hadn't seen before from Gary Sanchez and said, We have seen this before and does it just Re confirm what you already knew, which is that the stars have to align to see the brilliance right? The stars have to live to see the greatness because sometimes you're going one without the other, which is you're getting the offense without the defense or you're getting the defense without the offense. And when are things get a balance out in a meaningful way and for a considerable stretch of time? Where you're not getting Sanchez into one of these very deep slops, or you're not getting Sanchez into about where he like he has two times in the American League, which is lead the league in past balls. So it's like, I don't know most I was and I still am a believer in Sanchez. I think that the talent is there. It just hasn't been able to be consistent. The on ly thing that makes me wonder. Is this idea about Rio Moto just because the Yankees are still the Yankees, and I think that if this this is a situation that I watching just very closely because we know that there had been interest in the past for as much as Brian Cashman has backed up Gary Sanchez, and he really has I mean, especially after what was that the post season in 2018? There were times when it got pretty bleak here for Sanchez. It's in. Cashman was very, very much coming days defense at all times. However, we know that they have looked at really motel before. He's the best catcher baseball. He's available. Doctors just spent $400 million on Mookie Betts. Maybe there is a pot there is a chance. That the Yankees could say you know what for is good as Sanchez's. I'm not gonna worry about him killing me down the road. I'm going to upgrade my position now, and I'm going to make a play here. But But here's the deal. How significant Gary Sanchez and 16 20 home runs in 53 games in 122 games in 2017. He had 33 home runs had 90 R B I was on 122 last year. And 106 games, 396 plate appearances. He had 34 home runs, and at 77 or be eyes we can focus in on the fact that he is not the great all around defensive catcher. I understand that I grew that both when he is right. When he is an offensive force. I mean, let's let's not all the sun look at like where Gary Sanchez's show Nia, you know. Ah, snippet here there. I mean, 16 17 and last year offensively, I know the average went down to 2 32 You're getting 34 seventy seven hundred six games from your catcher. Most teams around the deadline for that they really are and And I get this infatuation with GT Real Moto I I understand what he is, is a player and he's been a very, very good player. There's no doubt and Brody knows that better than anybody with the Mets and the Met should've made for play for it. But I'm not giving up on a catcher. 27 years of age and saying, All right, you know what I'm willing to deal with whether or not because he is going to be he is when he is right. An offensive star in an absolute game record. That is what Gary Sanchez is. Now you're looking at him at a low point. He's been terrible here. The anchors are still winning games. By the way. I understand they lost three or four for the against the Rays over the weekend. I get it, but in 13 games here, yes. 1031 home run and three R B eyes. He's been terrible. I'm not gonna defend Gary Sanchez and say that he has been great. But I my willing now to all the sun, look at Sanchez and look at the snippet and that'll stun start to question The future of Sanchez here know the job is now to get Sanchez right, because when he's right He's arguably I think the best offensive catcher in the sport. Yeah, but most it's not just a snippet. You know, it's not just looking at this. This season has gone really badly for him. But if it was just this season that had gone badly, we would not be having this conversation in Yankee fans won't be having this conversation. The problem is actually hasn't been just a snippet. Now I understand the talent is there and the offensive Power is there but ask yourself. Is he the right catcher for this team? That already has a lot of power that he has a lot of offensive fireworks. Is he the best fit? I think it's fair questions now. It's not just because he's struggling this year. I mean, obviously, that doesn't help right doesn't help what happened yesterday, not just at 70 that conversation. If he's got 78 home runs this year, we're not having this conversation even with his defensive liabilities. Listen, He's not gonna be a great defensive catcher. It is what it is. Yankee offense dealt with it for years with Jorge Posada. But what Posada was was besotted was clutch and cassata and as much as you wanted, as pitchers won today, you know, rip him for a times framing pitches what he was doing behind home plate, not being this great defensive savant blocking home plate. We heard about that for years of your Yankee fan with Jorge Posada..

When you have an area of 13.5, you are pitching very, very well. And he has had a velocity has been way down about 91 92 I love what Aaron Boone had said, is that he's got to realize that he's got enough weapons.
