States are imposing more COVID restrictions despite pre-election predictions

"You know from the beginning of this pandemic all the way back in in january and february has been painfully clear that for donald trump and most of the congressional republican leadership that cova was primarily a political problem. That had to be managed because of the election not a health problem. A political problem with is on november and one of the biggest giveaways of their possession of their position is what they projected onto their political opponents. They couldn't believe that the steps that some governors mayors we're taking a combat. The virus were driven by serious concerns. That cova was deadly and needed to be combated. Instead they suggested it was awesome elaborate conspiracy to politically kneecap donald trump. If it ends up that biden wins in november. I hope he does. And i don't think he will. But if he does. I guarantee you the week after the election. Suddenly all those democratic governors all those democratic mayors will say. Everything's magically better. go back to work. Go back to school. Suddenly the problems are solved. Won't even have to wait for biden to be sworn in i guarantee you. That's ted cruz guarantee a week after the election. I guarantee you that all those democratic governors and mayors will say the problem solved no more cova restrictions. They'll take them all away. It was all just to her trump. Well guess what the election's over and what's happening in the opposite of what ted cruz cruz. Guaranteed in fact democratic. Governors like gretchen whitmer of michigan and kate brown of oregon who impose restrictions early in the pandemic have now imposed new restrictions amid covid spikes in their states. That's not all republicans who are abandoning their pre election positions. They're the ones who were doing that. And embracing public. Health measures governor gary herbert of doug burgum. North dakota are now changing their tune. There embracing masks after months of resistance. And then there's i will republican governor kim reynolds who vowed back in july quote. No i'm not going to mandate masks. I trust islands. Reynolds was photographed maskless at an indoor pro-trump event in october. That's her giving a high five in a crowded mostly maskless room and not only did she not object to trump holding one of his superspreader rallies. Interstate a few days later. She was spotted in the crowd at the rally. Not wearing a mask. Well now guess what i was. Hospitals are full across the state. There's barely an icu. Bed to be found if you get kobe tomorrow and you have to go the issue. Tough luck it's a nightmare and last governor can reynold who wants to spanish mass mandate. Does he feel good measure. Guess what she did she issued a statewide mask mandate along whether restrictions. It's a good thing too much too late. But it's the opposite of what ted cruz said would happen. Who is really playing politics. Do you think as hospitals fill up at americans conservative liberal being cut down by the virus there are still republicans who are treating. Herbert and the Utah Department of Health late yesterday issued executive and public health orders requiring residents toe wear face coverings in public at work and when they are within 6 ft of people who don't live in their households. We must work together to keep infections low until the vaccine is available. Therefore, tonight, I'm declaring a new state of emergency to address hospital overcrowding and to protect intensive care unit capacity first, because scientists and medical experts overwhelmingly recommend mass as an effective way to limit the spread of covert 19. I'm placing the entire state of Utah under a mask mandate until further notice. Trump tells Utah governor about Romney: 'You keep him. We don't want him.'

"Our politics lead today. President trump can't quit earlier today. The president spoke with the nation's governors. And and here's what he had to say to Utah Governor Gary Herbert About Utah. Senator Mitt Romney the lone Republican in the Senate who voted to remove the president. How's it been around me? The president trump on his vengeance store after getting acquitted and firing too key impeachment witnesses from their administration jobs as well as the brother of one of the witnesses and as C. N. N.'s Kaelin Collins reports for us. Now the president may just be getting warmed up today. The White House is standing in by the abrupt firing of two key. Witnesses in the impeachment inquiry they fired. They removed back to their original jobs. President trump has continued his streak of vengeance. Claiming lieutenant colonel. Alex deserved to be fired because of poor performance reviews while on the National Security Council though his attorneys called that obviously Asli False. CNN has learned before they were let go both Vin and anywhere Basseterre. Gordon Sunland or quietly planning to leave the administration. The trump didn't want them going quietly and fired them instead. Officials still claim it wasn't retaliation the president wants to retaliate. Because of the testimony testimony happened was in November and December. It's quite a while ago now in light of the firings Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Today. Call the nation's inspectors general to protect whistleblowers whistle blowers telling the Pentagon vin was viciously attacked for bravely stepping forward. To tell the truth. The president is still lashing out at those he can't fire. WE'RE CONTINUING HIS ONSLAUGHT AGAINST UTAH. Senator Mitt Romney who broke with the Party and voted for impeachment. Romi you it today. Trump also touted his administration's four point eight trillion dollar budget proposal that features major cuts in eligibility changes in federal safety net programs like Medicaid food stamps and disability claims while boosting military spending. We're we're going to have a very very good budget with a very powerful military budget because we have no choice award now of course take. That budget is largely meaningless. It's a political. Political document is not actually going to go anywhere but this all comes as the president is going to have his first rally here in New Hampshire tonight since he was acquitted. Of course this is the first state that actually gave the President of Big Victory Twenty sixteen and we're being told by officials to expect him to make impeachment a cornerstone of his twenty twenty pitch to voters and expect him Antonin unrestrained tonight take all right Kaelin Collins with the wings live and let die playing behind her. Thank you so much. Let's chat about this so to Lou There is this push this spin by trump people that oh no. He didn't fire anybody. They were on their way out anyway but right after president trump fired sunland and had been reassigned from the National Security Council son. Donald trump junior tweeted this. Allow me a moment to thank and this may be a bit of a surprise. Adam Schiff were it not for his crack track investigative skills president trump might have had a tough time on our thing who all needed to be fired. Thanks Adam so I mean it's pretty clear what this was all about. Yeah yeah this is sort of a trump to step where he tweets something that maybe a little bit ambiguous that most people know what he's talking about and then his administration officials come out and say no he's not actually he doesn't actually mean that he means means something different and then eventually either the president or someone close to them spills the beans and says actually yeah. This is what I meant and I think it's pretty clear to anyone who's watching is that the president was waiting for his acquittal. Quito to get rid of and to target people he thought were disloyal. Even targeting the brother of a witness who no one in the White House and said why he was march out of the White House. The brother of Alexander intervenign someone who is not testifying was not part of this Ukraine scandal in any major way He was marched out of the White House. Unceremonious leave though. He's a veteran as well. So this is clear that the president is on a revenge tour and as Caitlyn said. There's a sense that more people could get caught up in this as

"Had a busy busy crazy. Weekend was out on Friday night in Utah with Tim Ballard showed up the governor Gary Herbert showed up and his wife and his whole family. They're just amazing people, and we were seeing the movie unplanned, we started with one theater ended up. I think was seven and the crowd was incredible. I got a note this morning from the movie company saying that this is this is saying something, I think MPAA gave it a rated R. Rating trying to get people to not see trying to get Christians to not see it. Okay. And the movie company was most concerned with with groups like the Mormons who don't ever go to see rated r movies. They just don't do it. And. Some of us are not always the best examples, and we see them, but you know, the good ones don't go see them. And so they were very concerned about that. And so that's why I went out to Salt Lake I found out this weekend. The numbers came rolling in and Utah actually did double the purse screen ticky count or money than the rest of the nation. Which I think is it's saying something when you challenge group of people and say, you know, what we'll just do rated R, and they're not gonna see this that bothers people when it's politically motivated that bothers people it's like Twitter. What do they have seven thousand followers before Twitter, the unplanned movie, it's like seven thousand then Twitter briefly suspended them over the weekend. By the time. They came back up. They had like forty seven thousand people don't like it when you screw with them. And you try to tell them what to think or tell them what to do. And and so it thank everybody who came out all over the country. But please see this movie we go to Judy in Iowa who saw this weekend. Judy. I got through. I'm so excited. Yes. So is this movie? What you expected it was better than I expected. We went with a group of twenty four people from our church, and I am pro-life that you get I know on the board of a pro-life ministry in the quad cities Iowa. And like I said, I I don't think he'd be more pro life than I am. And I knew everything just about everything in this movie had knowledge. I'm so involved. It's affected me pro. I mean, I can't even hard to describe how much affected me even though I knew all this. But seeing it I mean, I don't know how anybody who goes to see if you're even on offense at all can possibly come out not change. I mean, it was amazing the Judy. Thank you for your call. Is what's amazing is Stu was just looking at rotten, tomatoes and movies like this? They always are panned by the critics, and this would of course, was panned by the critics, but it actually has what fifty three from the critics fifty three is actually pretty good. I mean. This is that's insane. And it's ninety four percent of of actual audience like it. So you know, I mean, it's one of those movies that is never going to get good reviews from critics because I'll give you an example the review, perhaps the most bipartisan thing, I consider you said if you like Trump rallies, especially the ones featuring Mike Pence, this is the movie for you. That's how the review is a review. I mean, that's that's what they're doing personal review. That's a that's a critic a critic crying, obviously, whether they actually even saw the movie, I mean, I is is in question. They're just saying the things they're supposed to say about movies that are that are against against you know, the pro-life costs. Let me go to Brian in Utah. Hello,.

"And not by nine people in black robes. I think the kind of would have been much better off, and we didn't have activism from the court state by state by state as sovereign states. In fact, determine these issues legislatively, and clearly what is out of this is clearly a loss of of I guess elevating people's lives and humanity. And we just have a different form of birth control. Now called abortion. Designed to do to be. And what the promise was before as you said, I think safe legal, and rare is anything, but rare and unfortunate, I think us human being. So the legislature in Utah just passed a couple of a couple of bills one thank you as a father of a child of special needs. Thank you for taking a stand on the most humbling among us those with down syndrome, you you guys pass this and you're about to sign this. Tell me what it is. If you choose to have an abortion, simply because you have a down syndrome child, but that's not appropriate just as we would want not discriminate against individuals with down syndrome in our society. We shouldn't in fact discriminating against him in utero, and so we passed a law that which I have signed now which says that that's not a reason to have an abortion to say, well, my style will have down syndrome. The other one is we signed into law is that we've moved to eighteen weeks as far as the timeline. So you cannot have an abortion in Utah under this law after eighteen weeks. There are typical exceptions that we have in the law or a woman's life at risk in a few have rape, or incest or some other exceptions to their for brain damage of of the fetus, etc. But if we're moved at eighteen weeks was a belief that we are in fact, stating for the world, we believe in the sanctity of life, and we need to be pro-life, and I'm on a bashes, Louis and unapologetically pro-life. And I think that most of America feels that same way. So governor let me ask you this because it's moving the opposite direction technology is you're going to be able to live outside the mother's body. You know at four weeks, eventually probably. So it's moving in the other direction that it's viable. I think it's Georgia that just passed the heartbeat. I mean when we stop when when somebody stops at an accident. The first thing they do is is anybody alive. Check the heartbeat. When you hear the heartbeat. That's when you know that person is alive. They're going now for the heartbeat law, which they're gonna come under all kinds of scrutiny in trouble for that. But doesn't that make sense where we should be going and headed well when I was in the army doing my basic training. I can tell you. That's exactly what my first aid classes taught us. I checked for a pulse. Heartbeat. Clear. The airway entries for shock. Stop the bleeding and treat for shock. That was the order of things. He always check the balsa heartbeats. Yeah. And so I agree with what George is saying. I think the heartbeat aspect of this which you can detect after six weeks ought to give us all pause. That's a sign of life. And why would we wanna do to interfere with that progress in womb, particularly and tell us it's ready to be born? Why would we want to interfere with that pick our consciences to say what we're doing? Here is probably not what we would do is humanity. What is religious belief or just the values? We have as human beings an association one with another. But the heartbeat issue. I think is one that's always bothered me in my view being pro-life is at heartbeats detected. That certainly is a sign of life. We're talking to governor Gary Herbert the governor of Utah who has reached out to him earlier this week. And and really wanted to know if anybody. In his office could even attend this screening. And he immediately said I'll be there. And so you're coming tonight. We're gonna come down on Iraq and bringing the first lady she wants to be there. And I'm going to try to bring the first son. So again, I think it sounds exciting. I've seen the traitor. I don't know the movie, and I don't know miss Johnson. Is that her name? Yeah. Abby johnson. Yeah. It's I mean, it's it's it's surprisingly uplifting. It's not a dirty. It's not one of these. You know movies? You have to see it's a movie that you'll be glad you saw because you'll you'll leave their uplifted. It's got a great message to it. But I'm telling you if you're teenagers go they made it rated R for a reason to stop teenagers from being allowed into it. Because if your teenager sees it they will forever. Be anybody who sees this your conviction of this is murder? Will happen when you see this movie? Well, I again, I should give us pause, and it should give us opportunity to think through what we've done maybe reverse are what we have is policy in this country, and you mentioned science Glennon. I do believe that's an important aspect of what's happening. Now is we have a child born premature? Sciences able to save their life in a much earlier time more premature premiums, you know, or being saved now because of science and advancement of science we have ever before in our history. Well, if we can do that to save Giles born premature again, why would we not in fact, one I save a child that comes out for whatever reason, and I guess some of the horror stories we're hearing as we let this premature. Infant sit there and gasping just die because we won't assist it. And that's the part. I find really hard to understand. Why would you not assist? Anybody? Who's gasping for life trying to breathe and trying to be a viable? And yet we have somebody would say now, we'll just they can't survive on a song. It will die be like being under water and having a a awful system. You know, when somebody pulls the plug on you, and you Gasser and say, well, if you can't do it on your own, what did you let you die. I mean, it's very similar. And I I think scientists certainly teaching us that the that there's an opportunity for them to survive outside the womb with science and scientific help what that ought to happen. We ought to be there for prepared to to to help that unborn child through. I've Gary Herbert governor of Utah. We'll see you tonight, sir. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Glenn bless you bet. I just. Going to take a break. And then a personal note on the other side. Real estate agents. I trust dot com. Tanya, and I started it, and we.

"Governor Gary Herbert from Utah going to be on with us in just a few minutes. I was talking to him earlier this week about the movie unplanned, he's actually coming to one of the showings tonight, he and his wife, and they're they're Utah has just passed a lot of really amazing things that are pro-life, and he's signing them into to law. So he's coming tonight. I'm going to be in Salt Lake and you can find out more about a decline Belk dot com. Where with Bill O'Reilly? All right. So Bill you. We left it off at the Democratic Party. And and and what you think is is is coming our way. Yeah. I mean, if they're. If they're going to present themselves Democrats as the party of hate, they're gonna lose. And I don't see how they get out from under that with not one reasonable person presenting what we just talked about before the break. Okay. In a week Sep the investigative conclusions. And now we want to solve the border. So Bill, I know on me better. I know you are a no you're a student of history as much as I am. So let me give you a theory every time the socialists rear their ugly heads in America. They do the same thing they start to become arrogant. And they just think everybody's with them. And they scare the hell out of Americans and Americans. Go running the opposite direction. It it happened in the tens and twenties. It happened in the forties. It happened again in the thirties and forties. It happened again in the sixties it's happening now people freak out when they see when that masks starts to come off. They're like, oh, wait, wait, wait. We don't want this the I think they've overplayed their hands so much on so many places that for instance, with the Donald Trump thing they now see the the they have compl-. -pletely destroyed their credibility. And even the people who are Democrats. I've heard Democrats democratic neighbors not people on TV. Democratic neighbors say I mean enough, I mean enough the guy two years enough same thing with the abortion thing. I'm not for infanticide. This is ridiculous enough. Get rid of the free market. Oh, come on enough. Reparations give me a break. People want to be good. They want to get along. They want good race relations. They want women to be treated fairly. They want people to be given a chance, but the the socialists now, and the Democrats have Seoul overplayed their hand that I think this week we saw the snowball that they were they were packing, and they were just trying to push it up to the top. Because then it would roll down the other side and crush the city, I think it stopped and they keep packing bigger and bigger and it's about to roll back on them. Well, I don't know about the snow boy, I kind of missed that. It was not snowing here in New York, but. What I'm what the your right? Boy. Does that hurt? I just got this sharp pain right in my chest. Yeah. I know you're about to have those and various proof because of the vote off Negrin new deal. So this amused me greatly. So Mitch McConnell. No, I'm not a fan of his. But he's old time political guy. Yeah. Nobody knows what he's talking about. But he knows every rule. This is you know, we're gonna vote on this green new deal and the Democrats go. No, no. We don't want to vote on it, and they go, and he goes, well, I don't care. We're going to vote on it under the guise of. Well, we wanna debate they're seriously in the Senate. So we need sixty votes in order to get that done that was the vote. So you have to vote for the debate. So here's what I loved Edward Markey. Massachusetts who I've known for many years, and he's not he's not a foolish, man. Okay. Hey, co-sponsor degree new deal. Didn't vote for it. He didn't even vote for his own Bill. No one voted for it. All right, all the Republicans had four Democrats voted against it. And the rest of the Democrats voted present as Barack Obama used to do when he was in the Senate, which means I don't want any part of this. So I hope I hope Mitch McConnell because what what AO said was, you know, I told them we should all just vote present everybody should just vote president Senate. He told them she told them. So she's running the party now. But anyway. Start a new party. Do you hear this no Tupperware party? No. It's the like, you know, party really really anyway. So. Yes. Know, she she was actually saying and everybody parodied this. This was just a trick to that Mitch McConnell played. And we really need to debate wasn't a trick. Actually. Right. Barry's her right? But it wasn't a trick. It was let me introduce Bill. That's not really a trick. When you're right. A Bill Lenny channeling back where you can talk to the dead. I mean, you talked to Stu, so I know you have various here. You believe in channeling? No, I don't why. Well, I do and I channel Eugene v depths. Oh, yes. The first socialist candidate ever run for president of the United States and Eugene told me in a little seance. All right. They're insane. I wouldn't vote for this. Gene debs. On board. That's how dominance whole thing is dumb is the word. But I hope I hope that McConnell takes her up and says, okay, let's have it. Let's have a debate on this. Let's open that up to the floor because it's so stupid. No one supports this. I know I know Castro called me and said he was offended. I had an interpreter. I knew what he's saying. Big little so Bill less last thing. I know your your book comes out the United States of Trump on how the presidents how Donald Trump really sees America goes on sale. In september. But you can pre-order it now. Let me hear you talk about how you felt last night watching the president if you did. Okay. And and it's an excellent question because I'm writing this. And it's driving me nuts. It's the hardest book I've ever written killing. Jesus was saw the right because we had a confirm with Roman records and Jewish records by here. I can't get research that is reflective of honesty. Everything's been written about the man is a lie. And I have to do it myself. In fact, after I hang up from you. I've got two people that I'm speaking with these are all I witnessed people know anonymous sources in the book. All right. So I wasn't surprised by anything except the profanity that Trump delivered last. I I don't know why anybody would be surprised. No. I'm not surprised. I'm not even surprised by the profanity. I mean, and it was one. I'm not I wasn't offended. I mean, my my language sometimes it's a little Rupp as everybody else. For the president president should be doing all he should. But he doesn't have any discipline in a speaking style. Right. All right. Any never will. All right. And I explained that in the book explain why he doesn't have disciplined speaking style. How he goes about things. But Donald Trump is a man who basically is going to play always every second of his existence to his base. He's going to play to the base. And this is what everybody has to understand when he speaks his base in Michigan all twelve thousand people who showed up wanted him to rip these Muller people up. That's what they wanted back. They came to hear that. And he gave it to them. He doesn't care about diplomacy. He doesn't care about hurt feelings. He doesn't care at all about commentators saying that he's a bar Burien. He plays to his base. How is he going to win? Always how is he going to win? Because I think there's a lot of another excellent question. There are a lot of a lot of people really. No, no, no, no, no, no another. Excellent question by Glenn Beck. Everyone big round of applause all over the country. Well, he's calculation is. You may not like me, but they're so bad, and there's so much worse than I am. That you can't possibly put give them more power. Well, I will tell you this. I will I will tell you this. And this is one of the things that I because I saw the captain America is now coming out and saying I've got to speak out against these Trump people how could you possibly vote for Trump? How could you possibly vote for anyone who will not stand against infanticide? How can you vote for anybody? Stand up for the the the free market system. They've gone so far beyond anything I recognize as western civilization. Now, there is no there is absolutely no choice. If the election were held today. There is no choice. And so I I understand that. However, if he would try just to knit together just a little bit by by by softening this rhetoric just a little bit. It would be easier to seal the deal. Do you agree may? Well, yeah. I mean, stepping back, of course, if I were in the White House advising him, I would go over the speeches and then take out the stuff, that's extreme. Had to do it. Anyway, he'll just add limit. Yeah. Just going to say that. But listen because he gets whipped up and in his soul or in his being fiber. He's angry. And I would be too. He wants to be an adventure. He wants to be an avenger Catrine. And that's his presentation and he'll eat delivered. I on it. I don't expect him to modify. I all my research shows that he is never in his tire life modified the only person that he listened to in his entire life was his father. Fred. Fred's not here anymore. I I think you can expect him to slash and burn. And I don't think he's going to dwell on Muller much longer. But once the other two reports dropped and he's gonna go to Bill o'riley. Thank you very much like in his book, the United States of Trump. How the president really sees America goes on sale in September. You can pre-order now. Thanks so much Bill. Appreciate guys have a great weekend. All right. Cryptocurrencies? Let me talk to you a little bit about that blockchain technology is going to play a significant role in our future. And and I don't know it could play out either way. I am a optimistic catastrophes. I believe that this what we are headed for his absolute catastrophe. But if we keep our heads if we keep cool and keep calm and carry on. We're going to be fine. I don't see a lot of people are holding onto their heads. Blockchain technology is going to change things. And it really is. I think going to free us up of a lot of different things security is one of them security with our money being able to have access to your own money without without the banking system. And the governments of the world dictating exactly what you can and cannot do with it. It is becoming more and more important now, I don't know what's going to happen with bitcoin. I don't know what's going to happen with crypto currency. But I can tell you what we have now is not going to be here. It's just not gonna last this way it won't it's an it's an antiquated system, and it will not last. So what do you do? Well, first thing you have to do is educate yourself. I want you to get into the smart. Crypto course, this is something we've asked he Qatari to do. He is one of the leading experts on cryptocurrency and.

"And so we're moving from the electronic machines more to vote by mail system. And we've had great turnout. This this last election was we had. In Salt Lake county, for example, over eighty percent. Voter participation for an off year election. So I mean, do you think that that will protect the state against security threats that are pretty pretty documented ribbit now in our election. You know, our machines that we have I think been. We've never seen anybody hacking. I know there's been a lot of accusations about it. But we've failed to see any of that reality take place in Utah. But there again, the oversight of our clerks and our election office in the state level working at costumes to make sure that we don't have a problem. We don't see it. Let's get into some national politics. So you talk experience a very large changes this year when Senator Rummy? Was quite a nothing that happens every day. Right. So you are very supportive when he won and. So can you say what you want him to do for the state Utah while he's in Washington? Well, I am supportive of Mitt Romney. And again, I'm supporting when he's running for president. Man, who has a great background in business. He wrote a book called turnaround. We saw that actually when he took over the two thousand two Winter Olympics, and he turned around, and what was kind of become a disaster into a very successful. Probably the most successful Winter Olympics in history. We actually made a profit on it. And we've put that in legacy of keeping our venues in good shape and current which means we've now if you just got to USOC said where the city of choice of state of choice for two thousand thirty I Winter Olympics so credit Mitt Romney for helping us in that regard. He's as what he didn't have business. A did that as a governor in Massachusetts and turning around deficit and creating surpluses so. I expect you'll do the same thing in a Senator. He has I think tremendous respect from other people if they've seen what he stood for and what he's done. I think he has the ability to be unique not used a freshman. Senator. He comes with a lot more cachet and experience. So I expect he'll be able to represent the state of Utah and the country and common sense practical way with a business background and having good policies and good principles basis. Decisions on governor Gary Herbert so his product when it comes to the president on the other hand has been to. He really hasn't shied away from criticism. He hasn't held back in areas in which he really disagrees with President Trump. Do you think? Well, in some ways that maybe in some ways, not I don't know..

"To affordable quality healthcare. Right. You need to work with the Trump administration to ultimately gets a plan that you and others in Utah desire. So what singles are you getting through officials in Washington, you will get what you're asking for. I think the need to have flexibility is something that all governors would like Republican democrat, alike and say we have the uniqueness and our state's unique demographics cultures politics. And so the one-size-fits-all something that governors typically, don't like Republicans sometimes talk about block granting money. Democrats are talking about maximum flexibility, but with waivers we can in fact, adjust to the uniqueness of the states, what they do in California may not be the same approach taken Utah or what they do in Kansas or Florida or New York, but allow the states to be those laboratories of democracy pilot programs by giving them more flexibility, which you can do with waivers. So I'm hopeful I'm cautiously optimistic. This will be a rate trend. Fact, I think other states will want to embrace the proposal that we have in the state of Utah as I think cutting edge. So. Who is there anyone in particular in the federal government who is saying Utah? We want to give you this. And we think we can get there with while working closely with the department of health sector is our and Seema Verma who's overseeing a mess. We've been working with them for a long period of time. We've talked with the administration I talked with personally vice-president Panthers. Former governor and recognizes the uniqueness of federalism and lying states have a little more flexibility. And President Trump has said the on all issues, he said, we ought to ask the first question is this not be better handled at the state level that's music to my ears. So again, I'm cautiously optimistic that this is going to be a proposal then they're going to want to embrace which I think's going to be a model for the country. "I'm a healthcare for politico, and politico pro and delighted to be here. I hear with Utah. Governor Gary Herbert is in his third term as governor. And you were also a season participant of our state solutions. I thank you for being here. There's so much going on in Utah surrounding healthcare and medicate specifically, so we're going to kick off our conversation with that. But we're going to get into a lot of other topics like medical marijuana. The impact on the federal government shutdown on your state environment. And of course, the twenty elections. So let's let's start with healthcare. Your state just acted generated a lot of national attention because it overrode eight violent measure would have expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. And instead it proposed. With a program that would cover favorite people. Now, I I want to highlight the fact that you have made multiple attempts to perform your Medicaid program is waiting Utah. And it hasn't worked in the past. So this time when makes I think they will be successful. And when it's asking for well, healthcare, certainly is a complex issue and certainly been the water cooler topic of the day. Ever since the Affordable Care Act and the intentions. I think are good under the Affordable Care Act and some states embraces. Some didn't the concern we had a Utah's the ongoing cost. There is not really ability to control costs and Utah really currently in has an past had the lowest cost healthcare in America. And we don't have as many people there impoverished, our two or three percent below the national average. So the concern was we have a lot of caution out a lot of benefit that being the case we had a proposal you kind of alluded to called healthy Utah. Which I presented which allowed us to bring back the money that we are being taxed for the Fordham. Correct. But doing a such a way that we were going to be fiscally stable, and that the future was not going to be a budget BUSTER, which is Medicaid has become for more states. Start out about nine percent since gone to seventeen to nineteen twenty five thirty. So that really is the budget BUSTER all budget BUSTER, your state budget, talking about state budgets throughout the country. And this is not just Republican position. I mean, Democrats in fact, former governor of Washington state said the biggest budget BUSTER, though, they have in states is in fact, Medicaid, so the concern of rising costs as legitimate when you can buy it today. But can you afford it tomorrow? That'd be the case again people. I think we're frustrated we're spending a lot of money with you all the pain and the additional taxation, but none of the benefit of the money coming back to Utah. So Hanson initiative what we've done with the initiative has got. People together and said, this is pastor as a tax increase along with it. Which was not enough to pay for the increasing costs of Medicaid expansion. We'd be upside down in two years, which means we have to come back and raise taxes or start taking money away from other programs, which is really the same sector of people were benefiting with Medicaid expansion. Whether we the snap program health, Stephen services, welfare systems, government.
