What was not what about to go or not go to an event of some type that's essentially number one. The best way to back out of plans made in then is what I over think quite a bit. Because you want to be invited to the party you're offended if you're not invited to something big but yet, you don't want to necessarily be there and like what if what if I don't go? Is GonNa look bad are they going to be mad at me? What if I do go at the mess? It's a disaster. So, your perfect scenario would be you get invited I. You say, Yes then they cancel the event. That's the best. But it's like I in my experience every time I don't go it's bad news. It's always bad from weddings when I didn't go to wedding was back. From. Dollars like any stress moments where it's like I don't it doesn't. It's like five ten minutes of overthinking it and then moving on right and then later in the day five minutes of overthinking it, and then moving on to is that what do you do that Okay and then and then not only can you over it? You can. You have that third loop where you're mad at yourself for overthinking it? Yeah. That's actually in later life. Do you think yeah. Later in life. Yeah later in life I go and I think about all the things that you were stress about the problems you think you had really don't matter. "It had a massive PR disaster and they had massive fine so yeah cussing level money one or two hundred points here. I want to say we found some challenges in organizations becoming more digitally enables. Let's say under report showed. I found this fascinating that just under fifty percent for me out of the metrics said that problem. People management about fifty percent of the challenges were related to people and management as opposed to technology. I think that's a very high number so I think it is related back to some of the comments that you've made about the challenges with people will detect is there as Peter said the industrialization of. It is very rampant in your experiences. Very quickly do you see that as well. We're having being a big people management problem now not to go into what we're going to do for next year is to try to identify what those problems are a bit more specifically but overall. I thought that was a that was a change whereas previous years it would have been. The technology is the problem. It's very complex very expensive. It's it's it's very difficult. We've all seen the seems. More people management I think even management but understanding how to manage people to cloud the cloud it is the Democrat is it in that and descends. That it's no longer expensive to spin up. Whatever service you wish and if I frame it in a in a positive way is that for some of the workshops I deliver the biggest bang for the buck and company seems to be to align the the the workforce around a common understanding of cloud as a concept and that enables their teams to to actually start talking about cloud in a more effective way because everyone and his brother has a piece of the puzzle? Already you just have to assume that in every company there's a ton of untapped potential even for change and the biggest challenge in the cloud and digitization era is to to get to this new level of understanding that the cloud as a ecosystem of connected services most of which are not run. Run by you. And that's the job of everyone is to extend to let go of the stuff that somebody else can do. Better but then take on that service to the benefit of our own company in which that company is unique will be unique and it it does require and actually essential to to to utilize the understanding dad. People that were already worked there and to to Leverage cloud capabilities. Let these two to advance the company. But just don't get let go of somewhat your old control so that you can Spend time on the new control. I like that we we do have to let go of talk me. We do have to let somebody else looking after. It doesn't mean we're not important. I think it means we're more important to find Ah gives us a chance to go up what I call the value ladder in the organization it's not it it it's it doing business few of it okay. One final thing to fish on the over the weekend has just this weekend. I read two separate reports. I came away. I report says that there is a large global skill shortage in it. Would you agree with that or disagree that first of all so do we have a skill shortage today and where might that be or are we adequately skilled in the IT sector much. You think Ed's Brian. Do you have any view from Gordon. Deal yes. I think there is skilled shoulder. Chad within the law of talk show on Cyber Security is definitely shaw. Common as find Emma. Find that we're not getting low of skill they're sabre professionals coming through in order to protect the systems uh-huh and also as well with things plywood now Seems to be a bit of a backing off thing into the cloud will solve all problems. The nationals at this point here and go by everybody should be a everybody should know about this. The Senate Neato so with lightning. We'll get a massive uptick on cyber courses now include courses. That seems to be our biggest Margaret Lowrie mentioned before very long survey structure hardware so the es because of the changing technologies. We're saying that Yuri. And yes. You're yeah of course in favour all the nontechnical trainings which Takeoff going into technology training. I think real large adoption of the platform as services and the underestimated value. That is this wooden containers referred medalists. The container as a service as a synonym service and that's really has a promise of of being game changing. It's so when you compare to infrastructure as a service on the dependency that did you have on the data layer on the infrastructure layer it can be mitigated by reinventing redefining software and using platforms. So when you're looking at platform as a service containerization containers whether it's cooper notice or well all the other is out there in Dakar car. They are really going to make change in the it landscape therefore in training that's my idea from an IT skills. Gaps there Peter Very briefly from yourself as skills gap began. You're in education in Mali. Different layers you seeing a big wide gaps there or even even from from the Netherlands. All the interesting thing is that We have A high High paying jobs around here not like In the or outsource incumbent countries whenever I talk to somebody in the country and says hey I have a part time job at a university there I I recall is always going to get one kinda got somewhere your students fantastic and say you. Your students will be able to put the extra premium on their their price say their appeal engine words Cybersecurity Inc Lauderdale can get some of. Your students. Doesn't nothing Gary Gary Dan in your parts of the world down under there What's it like from a skills perspective in the it? Shortage or plenty twenty of. I think the fact Australia paid to import me from the UK with my kind of suggest there is. There is something something of a skills shortage but I I don't I don't I get on my host about this little bit. Because when we say skills shortage we tend to think of people oh there is a requirement from people that the you know. The marketing strategy doesn't need more cybersecurity experts but for me talk about skills gaps in skills shortages as not just about net new people entering the industry. It's also about taking that person may the network. CNA The guy. He's been managing the the new fifty million years in a cave. It's about providing in those individuals with the skills that they need to be relevant today so he's taking those guys on that journey as well as bringing in New People. Yeah I think it goes back to one one of our earlier pints there debility acquire skills but also the ability for the organization to support the learning perspective. There's I report to read two weeks ago I read a lot of reports. He can tell it was based in Ireland's and they found that fifty three percents of people were paying for their own tech Tech Horses ammos employers. Weren't I thought this is madness. We have a skill shortage chair. Not just people in in numbers in what up to people we have can-do surely the employers should be part of this Lucien early employer again. You don't know what you don't know we've got under fifty eighty two hundred clouds obstacles. Maybe more the several thousand adding somebody who can create that content can understand more cloud. Tell me what does he want to do. Tell me what you're thinking is okay in order to complete. That journey has where you start going to end. Because he's going to change because together but at least let me and that's where organizations is Asians. Coming in the future is no longer a into service has a cervical. Let me understand that you want to be an XYZ cloud archetype the cyber security guru. Let's to start you on the journey. Oh you know nothing. Let's do some network plus some cloud plus absolutely nothing. Let's read a book you know Sultan and Komo Solutions. Yeah I think keeping their was learning pats now to like with all this cloud just just clicks together into operates. I think we need to do that. Now focused one final thing to leave you with an found another thing in a fish that from a report reported total. Let's do the weekend you know puts me to sleep. This one said I have very very big. Words was technology is not lot the problem today. Would you agree or disagree. We'll we'll end on this phone. Your in we'll start at the top. Technology is not the problem but definitely the people I people in practices outside the IT department that needs straggled changes fantastic radical change here. We're burning downtown. Bryan technology is not the problem. What do you say? Technology is just tools that people that use the tools that are the problem or the challenge again but the technology is not the problem. The Essay Peter. Well Technology is the way that we all ride and we should learn how to a ride that wave. That's really the challenge and especially these part of the world. We need to ride that wave with with teams of people who are who can who can work like like masterminds fantastic in Gary final words. You there you. I'm going to ask technologies problem. Found Final GonNa Finish with a metaphor. That seems only right. If I I think it's the orchestra I think if you think of technologies all the instruments that make up an orchestra if we put all those instruments in a room we're not GONNA get new. I with them very quickly unless she got the skills to you know basically pick up the fenland. Whatever you do with the fiddle to pick up the trumpet and blow never going to achieve so you know? Technology is not the problem so it's understanding what you can do with it and how to fly that technology. That's fantastic gonNA leave on those fine words. Gentlemen thank you so much for joining us today on in this session of talks big. Thank you to urine Brian. Peter and Gary will today's session. Thank you for joining. And we'll talk again soon. "I Don I don't take all the personal stuff into it like addict or because an asshole that guy's a nice guy I've met plenty of pro athletes and I've seen the press talk about some athletes like they're the best human being in the world and then you meet him there kind of an asshole and then I've seen the press portray some people like they're assholes name. You meet him. Gaddis the coolest dude because I've seen some coolest. NFL ATHLETES I've ever met Dion Sanders Randy Moss and any of you look at how they were portrayed in the media where they were playing. You wouldn't think that but you get around him coolest Diaz the coolest foggier met Iranian. He's just literally just a country dude from West Virginia that just happens to be really good at football but I mean just cool was anything laid back. I mean but the the way the media portrayed him and I bought in when they were playing like assholes funding for the truth when you're around them and there's been guys that when I met him I was like Oh these nothing like I thought he's not. I'M NOT GONNA I'M NOT GONNA throw him out on the bus but there was a couple I was like I thought he was cool. Who and he's not that cool but yeah I just got so good football back and then I went to my I went into my high school game on Friday so I was supposed to be on the Bahamas and obviously that didn't happen because of Dorian reschedule the Bahamas Day to December? I think we're going with December fourteenth. That's going to be back in the Bahamas at the Bahamas resort but I so I had a day off last week I get done with doing all my press New York to promote my comedy special and then I come a wife and I said I can either fly into Seattle on Friday night right and I got nothing to do my shows until Saturday night I should I'm GONNA go from New York to Cincinnati on Friday and then from Cincinnati to Seattle and Saturday and why so go ahead and so I go to cincy and I went to my old high school tallow in highschool knocks Ohio went to their football game and we have the tourists have been terrible. I mean my high school is does not have a tradition of being a good football high school but I've been hearing things about this team that we got a pretty a good team. We are to know my house was to know and this week if they go three and it'll be the first time this century so it'll be the first first time in over twenty years that they've been three and a half they if they win this week and they're heavily favored. They're planning team called eaten. Who's WHO's not very good so I go to the game and it's funny? They got this new coach. His name is Larry Cox and he is. He is a poster boy for high school football one. Oh one he talks like a like Oh man yeah he'll say anything. Mini's these reports sandwiches really good to have one and he's he's a salesman and he's he also do all my high school. Does is run the ball. Here's the funny thing about them. They got to they run like a almost a wishbone right and they count it. They got three black guys on the team to running backs and they got the the running mates got like classic Black Names Terrell Willis and then dontrelle around do not relate it to me. let me just make sure I can. I can get their names right. GIMME little shine. Tell on the football but I'd say some interesting about them about these kids roster. Kate is trailed twenty twenty four twenty seven. We got this Guy Terrell Willis who food sixty two twenty way bigger net and then we got this Guy De'andre him process name bow tasks revelry both tests reveille now. Toronto is the sixty two twenty. I think he's way bigger net- he's built like a NFL linebacker he's huge and then the Andrei is more of a tiny guy. not very big big but I think it's funny. There's there's like three black guys on the team and two of them running backs split carries and I will say the cool thing about my high school team is they got a new coach Larry Cox and he is the poster child for a high school coach. I mean he talks like one. He'll say anything like after the game he was telling me how good these pulled chicken sandwiches burgers a body chicken sandwich is good now who real good it go ahead and get one. I was like God and this dude really has got me. One eat a pulled chicken sandwich but my number run the ball nothing but run the ball and it's terrell that has dandridge row roger m the cool thing about is de'andre. I come to find out from the coach. He was adopted by by these two guys two two gay guys together and I don't they just adopted De'andre Andrei or they adopted his whole family. I don't know if he has brothers and sisters but he adopted him so he's being raised by by to just two guys living living together and I think that's the beauty of highschool football because this is nothing against basketball or baseball aw or wrestling or any golf or anything but some about high school football and just the dynamics of it of summertime you gotta train and workout workout together in the heat and and then you're hitting each other like you have to be violent against your teammate and it's just something of it's almost was like you ever see like two guys gonNA fight or best friends a week later in the neighborhood when you're growing up as something about as as men young men and guys it just galvanizes together and in my high school was Kinda. It's weird because you don't think it's a a broke high school. You don't think it's like a poverty-stricken highschool but you gotta like it sits right off a college campus mammoth and you have a lot of people that are a lot of parents parents are employed by Miami University so you have professors kids going to my high school but then you also have two or three trailer parks you have have a couple section eight apartment buildings. You have a boy's home and and like as I'm sitting there after the game sitting the coach's office and the coaches are all high fiving vending in celebrating in being to anno- for something done it in years and a kid walked in and the coach proceeded. Tell me like man is kid. He's had a rough rough go of it so far in his life and you know he's just not living just his living conditions aren't the best and one of the coaches telling him I. I'M GONNA pick you up tomorrow because there's a JV game Saturday morning and just the fact that what I love about about high school football is the went the really good coaches they never look at the kids of course you favor the superstars if you get if you stuttered athlete of course you favor him but I think more often than not coaches and I don't mean just the head coach I mean the assistant coaches also I think they really get this papa bear mentality because these are your cubs these football players and you want to see him do well not just football but in life and to see one of these coaches. Tell the kid amp picking you up tomorrow. Okay we've got to pick it up for the game coming to get you wake you up join up so clear that kid kid does not have the structure within his life that he can get arrived to to go the JV football game this JV football which really not a lot of people give shit about good energy and football game. It's not crowded. It's just kids playing football unless you're a parent or grandparent you those stands are not packed. Nobody's getting up at six seven in the morning two. GB football game unless you have a relative plan and but seeing these coaches this it's it missiles such a little thing but some that I sit back notice because I was a kid that need a ride to the JV football game and see one of the coaches telecast that I'm GonNa wake you up and the way he made that kid feel was it was important for him to get up and be of that JV football game and the thing that you got all these kids from all these different backgrounds. I'm just going off my high school. You got a black kid adopted by by two gay guys you got this kid that he can't get to and from practice without the coaches and the kids that are probably doing decent in in life from a two parent to parent home and appearance of working and doing okay but something about going through the summertime practices and and winning together and losing whether whether you play one player one hundred plays. I'm you feel like you're part of a team. I think that helps those kids out so just seeing that at my at that high school game like I it was just something cool to see in the when the coach was telling me the back stories of allow the kids I mean not not not all of them were heather of rough childhoods Osama salvo doing well and he was saying you know whose kid that is someone. That's someone who's Kid. He's the dentist in town and that's so and so's kid. He's the doctor in town so it's not all all that but it's just something about that high school football more than any other sport that I just I love it and how people can try to say it's not good for for kids because of the risk of injury and in Cte and all that I get all that but there's not a lot of people walking around with seeds either played high school football and just stop plan in after high school on ninety percent of the kids after high school. They're not playing anymore football at all so I just love. There's nothing like Friday night lights. There's nothing like it coups part about my high school. Though is I go the game and I'm walking the sidelines and my husband start chanting Gary Owen. There's like Ariel win. Guarantee you in and then the other high school started chance of them and they start chanting. We got Gary Gary Dan Right. They do that followed by every Friday night. Whether I'm I mean I don't make I am lucky one. Maybe two games a year but I get on twitter. I get on a auto all this stuff and I follow the Games as they're going. I keep track of my high school every year. I just love. I Love High School Football. Am I avoid soda to coach Carson. In the whole tea demand it was it was awesome as you guys play this week and hope you guys go three and and just keep it going because as we know this my husband does not have the the high school tradition so to speak being a powerhouse and so yeah so. It's been a great week. My my special came out. Their response has been amazing. if you haven't seen it go to showtime on demand or get the showtime APP you can watch it all and this week I'm in Phoenix at the celebrity theater with Lil Duval aw and the next week September twenty two twenty second. I'm in Chicago at the Schaumburg Improv in Montgomery Alabama September twenty eighth eighth at the Performing Arts Center and pretty soon within the next month. I'm going to take you guys out to the backyard. 'cause I told you an effort we I got this house us that it looked like Iraq back there. We didn't WanNA rush our backyards. We've finally got everything we want it and they put the pool in now and the Pergola in the sitting area so just go to my now that I'm home for awhile just go to go to my shoes. Go to my instagram. story must match Gotcha. They're both at Gary on comedy and I'm just show you the backyard as it goes every every time I'm home. It's a little more. "Dot com. Just say, hey, Alexa, play WBZ NewsRadio an iheartradio to get nightside. With Dan Ray on WBZ, NewsRadio ten thirty. We are remembering Gary year. Now, we have a few minutes here before the bottom of the hour. I'm gonna play a longer version of Gary which again will bring back some great memories. But I have a few phone calls. I'd like to get to going to try to move everybody along. But I doubt the son of the gentleman who I just mentioned I mentioned Gary's longtime morning partner Gil Santos who we also lost much too soon. Mark Santos, kill son joins us. Hey, mark. How are you tonight? I just mentioned your dad. Gary, Gary, Dan, very very very shocking to hear this news today. Yeah. Obviously go and Gary. Dawn canton of golden golden age of radio back in the late sixties early seventies. And you hit it right on the head. I mean. There was a camaraderie between all of them. And especially my dad, and Gary I can remember when Gary retired. My dad was very very very very emotional on the air that day and and vice versa. When my dad retired in two thousand and nine you know to to radio icon in the Boston area Gilda voice with the patriots. And Gary, I think it was the voice that news and Boston and just a great great great guy. I just saw that my dad's waking April I thought he looked great. I introduced my girlfriend she's at east, you know, some of the same age as go go wasn't. He looked tremendous absolutely blown away. When I heard the news today. Dan, I could not believe it. He was apparently diagnosed shortly after thanksgiving as I understand that don't wanna get into too much of the particulars. But you know, normally when you hear someone is dealing with a tough a tough hand tough set of cards in this day and age, and he he had good. Medical treatment. And I'm sure that the doctors did everything they could you assume. Well, you know, going to happen that quickly, and it happened a lot more quickly as I said, I'm sure that this afternoon you dad greeted him in a far better place and probably your dad probably was smoking a cigarette if they allow smoking out there. Guide after the patriots. That is true. Funny story. You're you're quickly. You touched on Gary had a place out in Saint Augustine. I can remember I had the privilege of going to seven Super Bowl with my dad. And when we played the eagles the first time out Jacksonville, Joe would go to Gary had a studio in his home down in Florida and Saint Augustine he would take the Gabby studio to the sports fair and come back to the to the hotel, suite. And I can remember. Got into the probably about four or five in the morning one of the parties from the night before and I wrote -em rustling around. And I'm like, what are you doing some getting up through the sports? My sports. I'm mike. He's like I'm going to Gary studio in Saint Augustine, and no just just a tremendous camaraderie to great great icons, and it was a different era a different time. But all of those icons called the sues and Ken, and Dave may Gary and Gil and and yourself it's just a very very very sad day for radio in in in Boston. Absolutely. Mark blab some great stories of a budget dad, which will share some time privately up, but they both had just great senses of humor. We we saw enjoy enjoy their company both of them both of them. I remember I remember the I remember quickly. They did a lot of commercials back in the seventies to I think of the morning team. And they had a skit where they did what they had a coffee pods, and they had pajamas on and stuff. It was it was just a different different different time. But thank you very much for giving me a few minutes. Thanks so much for calling in appreciate very much. Let me get real quickly in here going to get to at least in. And then we gotta take a break Charlie enabled Charlie were packed with calls. Go right ahead. I feel lost a real friend. Gary. Career and Harrow WHAT. I. Gary many many times. Traveled all over New England, my younger days. I get up at four o'clock in the morning on morning afternoon. My.
