No. 1 seed Alabama beats Maryland 73-51 in drama-free game

"There are only two number one seeds left in the NCAA men's tournament as Houston and Alabama both advanced to the sweet 16. Houston defeated auburn 81 64 behind 26 by tremond Mark and 22 by Marcus sasser, whose opening three pointers set the tone for the big night. I've been really going live in practice, so just to get that, you know, that game feeling, you know, real early, it was good and I felt like it helped me throughout the game. Alabama topped Maryland 74 51, led by Japan queenly with 22 and Brandon Miller with 19. I'm Gary Mackay

The Transgender Radical Who Helped Stoke a Dangerous UC-Davis Riot

"Now is Libby Evans, human events, and also the post millennial. Libby has done a considerable amount of research that helps me and also has been really helpful to all of us to learn about how the heck did the riot happen this week at UC Davis. And one of the reasons the riot happened is because an unsubstantiated Internet rumor that originated from a trans hoaxer called Aaron Reed, a man who thinks he's a woman. This hoaxer said that Charlie Kirk stands Charlie Kirk believes that trans people should be lynched. That is not just untrue. It is the opposite of the truth. It is against my beliefs and against my values. I never said it nor insinuated it. That then turned into the Sacramento bee. And then the UC Chancellor Gary may. Libya is with us. Now, Libby, what have you learned about this individual? Yes. So this person is Erin Reed, a trans activist, a male who poses as a woman, and goes on Twitter to talk all about various kinds of legislation that are being passed in the U.S. and specifically digs into those bills, tracks them, and also decided that your comments when you were speaking with swimmer Riley gaines were tantamount to calling for trans people to be lynched. Anyone who watches those comments knows for sure that that's not what we're saying. Anyone who listens to you speak also knows for sure that that's how you were saying you are often advocating for peace that happens repeatedly. Yeah, so reads comments were then picked up by the Sacramento bee and others. Who determined that read was correct without looking into it at all. And I was actually sort of stunned that then those comments actually made their way to the Chancellor of UC Davis where you were speaking on Tuesday and that Chancellor while not exactly repeating those comments clearly was under the impression that comments that those were accurate.

Crypto's Center of Gravity Is Shifting Away From the U.S.

"All right guys, well today we have an interesting theme. And we're going to spread this out over a couple of pieces, and I think a good way to kick it off is to point to a tweet which really deserves the visual, but it's from Brian quintessence of former CFTC commissioner who's now at andreessen Horowitz, and he shared a chart put together by electric capital that is the percentage of all of the world's crypto developers who are in the U.S.. The proportion of the developers in the U.S. has steadily declined year over year. In 2017, it was around 42% in 2018. It was around 39% in 2019. It was around 36% in 2020, it was around 33% in 2021. It was around 31%, and in 2022, it was around 28%. Now, I don't think there's anything wrong with developers coming from all over the world, and the best way to read this chart or the most hopeful way to read this chart would be that other developers from other places got in the game. However, I think, as you'll see from our topic today, that there might be something else going on, and certainly that was the point that Brian was trying to make. The comment that he added to the chart was this. For Gary gensler, this is what success looks like. The point of course is the U.S. seems to be determined to push crypto offshore, and that is the theme of the conversation today. So we're going to start with a piece by Noel atchison who used to be the head of research at coindesk and genesis trading that's called the future of crypto markets will be driven by developments in the east. Crypto investors need to keep an eye on geopolitical shifts playing out on the regulatory landscape, specifically some upcoming changes in Asia. Noelle writes, as political experts focus on the diplomatic dance and building tensions between the United States and China, punctuated by some balloon shaped comic relief that might end up not being so funny after all, a more benign battle is brewing in the halls of financial regulators. While local for now, nothing stays local for long and global markets. The potential ramifications go well beyond crypto markets, potentially shaping economic influence that. In this changing landscape, is more geo strategically important than ever. Earlier this week, Hong Kong securities and futures commission or SFC published a proposed text of its upcoming crypto regulations, slated to go into effect on June 1st, and opened it up for public comment. Its scope includes the licensing for crypto asset service platforms, which were originally only going to be allowed to service accredited investors. The SFC is now seeking input on whether or not retail investors should also be allowed to participate, and what types of protection should be in place. Also open for discussion as the range of quote unquote approved assets, which in principle would only include a limited selection of the most liquid tokens.

Jennifer Horn and Sebastian Unpack the Wuhan Lab Leak

"Doctor Michael farzan from Scripps and doctor Robert Gary from tulane told Doctor Fauci on his emergency call in January of 2020 when he was scrambling soon after learning that the NIH was funding the lab, they both said that it was likely from the lab. Both scientists changed their tunes days later in the media and then both scientists received $9 million subsequent and funding from the NIH. It's a no brainer that it came from the lab. I mean, at this point, it's impossible to acquire any more information. And if you did, it would only be affirmative. Even if you take politics out of it, Jen. This is such a sea change because usually and I've been there. I've testified multiple times before Congress on ISIS and jihadism. In the past, it's just been, you know, they come in, they prance for the cameras so they can tell their constituents at home. They ask the question of somebody from The White House. This time, this was actually meaningful. This is a congressional hearing that was substantive Jan. It was, and we've learned so much. And how many people, I was reminded about Jon Stewart, some of the other comedians who found themselves canceled president Trump, who was called a racist, a xenophobe for calling out the fact that the lab leak carried the lab leak is the working theory here that this is what we've known all along and stunning to me that now people are actually asking questions. So what happens? Do we get a refund from the government? Do we get our Twitter accounts back? Do we get our lives back? Do we get our kids education back? Because it seems that we received a lot of bad information and it's all what they wanted to tell us. It almost, I hate to be conspiratorial, but felt like a test run in some respects for how much government control we could possibly take, especially in big blue states and big blue cities like the one I live in. And now for all of this real information to come out, it's great that it's here, but how much pain punishment, how much did we lose because of all of this?

FTX Ex-Engineering Chief Pleads Guilty to Criminal Charges

"Yesterday the news tightened around sand bagman freed even further as yet another of FTX most senior execs turned against him. Former head of engineering at FTX nishad Singh pled guilty to criminal fraud charges and agreed to assist prosecutors in their case against SPF. As part of his agreement, single plead guilty to one count of wire fraud, three counts of conspiracy to commit fraud, what count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, and one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States by violating campaign finance laws for a total of 6 counts. Now in separate civil actions, singers agree not to contest fraud complaints from the SEC and the CFTC. The SEC will be asking for a ban on sing asking as a corporate officer or director, which will be subject to court approval. This is in line with previous plea agreements from other FTX co-conspirators, Carolyn Ellison, and Gary Wong. In a statement sings lawyers said quote, shot is deeply sorry for his role in this and is accepted responsibility for his actions. He wants to do everything he can to make things right for victims, including by assisting the government to the best of his ability in this case. Now, nashad turning on Sam has seemed kind of like a foregone conclusion. Ever since we got that conversation that Sam had with the vox reporter that he thought was off the record where he said that nashad felt really terrible really genuinely terrible about all this, whereas Sam kind of made clear that he didn't. Now Singh was released on a $250,000 bond to await sentencing and his was so much lower than Sam's bond because as prosecutors said, Singh had traveled back from The Bahamas voluntarily in November shortly after the collapse in part to assist with Justice Department investigations.

Gary Gensler, Bitcoin and the Bad-Faith SEC

"All right Friends, well, hope you had a great weekend. And to kick the day off, I wanted to bring you back to a simpler time. Remember when Gary gensler was first coming into this SEC role and so many folks, myself included thought, hey, maybe this will be good. I mean, this is a guy who has taught about Bitcoin and crypto at MIT right? The simple fact of that understanding is almost certainly likely to make him better to work with than someone like Jake Clayton and then remember how Gary decided to be avowedly against the industry. To perpetuate a regulation by enforcement approach and to take actions that are clearly less about the investor protection he purports to care so much about and so much more focused on advancing his own political career, while in all of that, a road bump on Gary's preferred political path are the questions that swirl around his discussions with Sam bankman freed and FTX. Genzler's opponents in Congress are getting louder about demanding answers. About the SEC's discussions with FTX, as well as their investigations into FTX after the collapse. The narrative those opponents are trying to make stick is a pretty simple one. At the same time, Gary was scoring PR victory slapping Kim Kardashian on the wrist, he was also meeting with the guy who ended up being revealed as one of the biggest financial frauds in American history. The problem for gensler is that it's a pretty compelling narrative sort of backed transparently by the facts. It's enough of a problem, in fact, that gensler has started to fight his own media counter offensive. Late last week, New York magazine published a pretty extensive piece called can Gary gensler survived crypto winter. D.C.'s top financial cop on bankman freed blowback. In the interview gensler discusses at least one of his meetings with FTX directly. The meeting in question came a year ago in March 2022. FTX had come in with IEX, a stock exchange that they were in the process of acquiring a piece of, and the two firms together were pitching a quote alternative trading system, which is basically an SEC approved trading venue that has lighter regulations than being a national securities exchange would.

Goerli Ether Surged Over the Weekend

"Testnet, goo airly. I like to call it testnet Gary because it just sounds kind of funnier. I don't know. Ether spikes to $1 60 cent as traders jump on opportunity meant for developers. See, there's an opportunity to make money everywhere in crypto. So GE pumped over $1 and 60 cents this weekend, rising from 7 cents last Friday, and it reached a market cap of 15 million, which is pretty impressive. Nearly a $1 million worth of GE was traded in the past 24 hours with 3.79 million total of GE in circulation and 1260 token holders at press time. But it has now dumped over 40%, which makes sense because that's kind of what traders do. They get in and get out. Galeri is a test net version of Ethereum for developers to simulate transactions, smart contracts, and test their code prior to deploying on mainnet. Well, since you are tech person, I think. Are you the tech savvy person of the show today? I'm going to toss it on the toss this over to you. We'll toss it over to you even though it's not a two. You were Christy. You guys want to fight for it? You got options today. That's a nice thing. I'll take it really quick. I can throw it over to Christy. Yeah, this is a funny story. And I think it kind of goes to the point that everything in crypto has a price. Most things in the world actually have a price we just don't think about it because there's not really a marketplace for them, right? So I'm going to ruin right now with a bunch of potted plants, not really a price that we think about for them. But they actually do have a price. We saw marketplace for them and go early was the same story, right? There wasn't really a marketplace for gorilla eth. If you wanted some, you'd go into a Discord channel, you'd ask a bot for some, and then it would send it to your eth address just as a faucet. This is a common thing in crypto, right? Going back in history, there was even Bitcoin faucets when Bitcoin basically had no price. Because there's no marketplace for it. Once these marketplaces start showing up, people start pricing things. And the same thing is happening with GE here, right? They put it on uniswap for the first time, and then it starts trading at a price. And people don't like that because it really is used just for developers. People use GE to test new applications. It's really the only purpose for getting it. And all of a sudden it has a price and people are comfortable with it. I've never really uncomfortable with this story yet, because I think it just makes sense. It's not ever going to have the price that eth does, because eth is where the action actually is, where people are actually putting applications on chain that are people are using for trading and finances and things like that. G is just for testing things around. So I think people got uncomfortable with it. But to me, it's not too big of a deal,

Voyager Digital Faces FTC Probe Over 'Deceptive' Crypto Marketing

"According to a new legal filing from the Federal Trade Commission, there's an investigation into Voyager digital and how they marketed their cryptocurrency project. Of course, Voyager digital declared a chapter 11 bankruptcy over the summer months. That was part of the spew of the fallout from three hours capital. They later sold their chapter 11 bankruptcy claims to FTX, which then itself went into chapter 11, and now we have this investigation, also this morning we have new headline that binance U.S. has been affirmed and is likely to win the final chapter 11 assets from this whole contagion with Voyager. So we kind of get a resolution there. That being said, this FTC investigation is now open and they're going to look into the directors, the officers, the marketing of the firm that got them into this position in the first place. It's really feels like a story for Jenny got to throw your way. There's a lot of marketing and crypto. There's a lot of marketing out there that Gary gensler and SEC boys would not love. But it's probably how you went out in this ecosystem. Want to get your take on it? Yeah, so this is all about this bankruptcy case, right? What the FTC is saying is that if Voyager is sold, which it looks like it is going to be to Biden's U.S., all of these marketing claims shouldn't go away and I think I agree with them. I just want to remind our audience. So there is a class action lawsuit in South Florida, and it's against Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks and the claims are that Voyager falsely marketed the platform as a 100% commission free, falsely represented Voyager as insured by the FDIC and failed to disclose the nature scope and amount of compensation celebrities received in exchange for promotion. I don't think that the executives and the company should not be held liable for those things. If it's found that these allegations are true, and I guess my next question is, is if the sale goes through and binance U.S. does acquire Voyager digital, do they acquire these lawsuits as well? It seems like the FTC wants them to and I wonder if that's going to affect the sale, but I think that all marketers in crypto should be looking at this with a magnifying glass and taking a look at your marketing strategy. You should understand how the business works. If you're making claims that there are things like FDIC insurance and it comes out in your copy and your marketing, you are partially responsible for that

Maybe i'm just wrong about that. But given how. Big gary playing. I think that's what he should be shooting for. And just having a cash option should just be able to swipe the card. Go to vecon via. That's those are the three things that come to mind. Be very hard to give a god feedback. Okay so i know it's hard. I'm going to buy you some time because you know i'm going to push you to give me two more things so again. I want you to rack your brain here. It's gary v. Right now. And i know here i am. I get the easy job asking questions. It's not hard to do that. It's a lot harder for you. 'cause 'cause we're you're not pre thinking of the advice because i'm not telling you question i'm gonna ask. You should know by now that i'm always going to ask you. What advice would you give this person. And so as. I buy you more time. The thing to think about is you've you've mentioned a few really important things. One is where he's spending time super important. The other part is kids community in clearly. These large scale events that he's doing making the more accessible than you also talked about the very beginning of the first thing. That is the people that he's bringing in. I think maybe he could provide a bit more clarity on that part or maybe. I was daydreaming. When you said it so maybe missed it. But as i think about gary v to me the thing that stands out is he is so well connected and it's clear to me that because of the connections he would have the ability and part of the reason he's able to spot trans probably part of the reason he's able to find opportunities is because of how well connected is..

"There's really something that stick out one. Simplicity skills right language is very simple. He doesn't complicate shit keeps a really simple. He's always saying the same shit over and over and over again which is number two right. Always say repeat the same ideas over and over and over again you don't need to innovate and too much to be an innovator. To be a thought leader you need to innovate somewhat. And it is thoughts. Do change on some topics from time to time. But for the most part eighty nine cents. What he's saying is the same. Which brings us number three refined those same key ideas with the audiences you speak. You're not gonna appeal to everyone and gary's a good example of this. You either really really hate him or you really really like calm. Doesn't really have an inbetween with gary. So what he does is. He focuses a lot on the people he loves but he also talked about the people. Here which is kind of funny but gary. but i don't think that's necessarily a keystone to a success. I think the third pieces. He's really good at refining his ideas. I'll give you an example of this. It's tangible for people. When he started keynoting in two thousand eight and nine most of his keynotes people don't insider was focused on practical tips. Like he'd literally go. Do this post this and this. But as he was talking to his audience he realized that wait a second. No one's implementing the tips wise. That and then he realized that is because of the judgement that people had of others. What my mom think my dad thing so. He pivoted his entire content strategy. Just focus on shit like will. You're not creating content because your mom is so. He started really speaking to the pain that the vast majority of people have when creating content and even for the season does me now in content creation. That was actually the main reason why i did want to start creating content. Either and it's tough for me to say that but it's true..

"And realize it had sonoko bowman and fully gasset so we ran my genetic test. Figured out basically allergic to both of those things. And that's why. I was putting into my body for four. And that's where all the problems started interesting so once we fixed that and i went to method kabala men and full late. Then i was good to go. Then we have a couple of cases. Here excuse me you see them on the board there is that and yes and ours at the topic. We're talking about or is that x stuff That's the topic we're talking about. These are these are patients of ours that have had methylation pathway deficiencies and we supplemented them with different nutrients. B twelve full eight. i have x ray vision. I i know that madison infused at least one of those couples. She probably just. I've actually everyone on their has had a baby. She glanced at me and gave me one like i went. Oh those are her clients all right. Let's talk to him. Paul and cari hong kerry berry. Hey apothecary yeah talk to you. Hey we're talking about what you've experienced with these replacement sort of interventions talked to us. But i think the most remarkable thing is i mean when when we met gary You know he started exposing us some of these options and we sell better at age forty than we did at age thirty and really fortunate to be surprised with a new addition to our pinpoint that we blame on gary fertility. fifteen percent of everything that child sane. That's does we had had a lot of challenges with the the first two children. So we really. The only thing in our lives have changed was working with streamline and you know here we have this healthy baby boy come along with no interventions and nothing. It's a real blessing for us. What did you do with these guys. So we did the blood lab test and then we switched their diet and then medication as well so we got the meth leading properly. Then we put him on the right hormone supplementation and got them eating the right food. So with Menthylatim properly they're able to hold the placenta more efficiently The placenta lining where the baby attach is so. Therefore you don't have a high risk of miscarriages and vm fusion. Stuff like that myers cocktails which you can do. Weekly so myers is the best like gold standard for ivy's some amount of vitamins you can put into an iv bag without them crystallizing. So it's a scorebig acid which is vitamin c it's calcium gluttony magnesium chloride and then we do hydroxy kabala so the b twelve. That's why everyone feels so good on because we don't use cyanogen and then we do a complex. We'll guys thank you for Why why did you did. You know that you needed something. Where you something out of whack with you guys porcari gary. Yeah this is keri. Em's you know we just. I think are on class for better health in general Were you know we didn't start having kids so thirty five so in our minds we have to live until we're one hundred now to really fully you know be with those kids who the prime of their life and enjoy that so we were just on a class test improve. "So there's a lot of incentive to be accurate in predicting gethin question always was well. That's easy if you're eighty five years old in your ill or you have a terminal illness or you're on a whole battery of pharmaceuticals we can predict these pod timeframes. But what if you're a point five or thirty thirty five forty year old male or female and you're very healthy and your bloodwork is relatively normal and you don't have any real genetic family history. You're not on any pharmaceuticals. You don't have any pathology disease. How do you predict how many more months that person has on earth and so what we did was. We started from the end and we worked backwards. We realized that every human being leaves this earth exactly the same way but once you decided to get out of the field. He worked backwards. Yes when you decided to get out of it because you were you were able to stay the history. You were able to predict death with extraordinary accuracy. Incredible for any given individual gary's of the bit. Thank you doesn't weird me out. People always ask them. If you ever do your own life expectancy and say heck no. Why not. That's good out all right so but then you decided that's not a good way to know because the sad thing was that we could have no influence on the patient. We can have no contact with that patient. Give no contact with the treating physician and the intention of that was good. I'm not least to practice medicine so what they didn't want to have happen. Was you know some back office. Hyun biologists like myself that's doing a mortality prediction star to contact the patient's age take five fully chicken d three. Get off the betablockers. It's kind of weird. The insurance didn't want to have somebody do that because it improves their risk profile. Interestingly they would to it after policy was putting photo interesting so trice it price allah then extended timeframe. You collect dishes perfect business right so so in any case you know. The the career eventually became very very unrewarding. Because i got less capable of detaching myself from the fact that they're human beings on the other side of these spreadsheets yeah and I loved edem very data driven. I'm very analytical. I love science. Alert research mortality. I love the act of these predicting death based on these esoteric factors but what happened over and over and over again drew and it was so glaringly apparent that we could not ignore it any longer and that is that the three largest factors that were impacting mortality. What we call co morbidity. He's in almost every case in more than eighty five percent of our l. e. predictions life.

Santa claus coming to town because read other can you. Yeah so gary. Is there anything. I should've asked you that. I haven't oh. No i mean. Are we testing a little. Bit of everything. I'll say since we're i think we got. We started the one more question left drive so before we get to this the question of mary. Yeah i'll say this. As far as bruce goes because i know this is a bruce centric podcast. Most of the time yes I have been a casual. Bruce fan my whole life because obviously some of his biggest hits were from right around the time that i was born and yet i know though songs like i know born to run. It doesn't matter that it came out when i was three. Yes so he has. He has an enduring quality to his songwriting. That isn't as a centered on a place and time as a lot of artists are. Yeah like i looked. I go back and listen to the show at the devil now by motley crue as much as i loved it in nineteen eighty two. Now it's cheesy. His stuff does need like that. Yeah so there's an enduring quality. But i'll say this one of the things that i prepared to say before. We started all this when you told me that that we were gonna talk about. What what we're going to talk about. My hometown is my favorite bruce springsteen song and not being a hardcore bruce springsteen fan like you and a lot of your audience yeah. I don't have a clue where that falls. In the pantheon of bruce springsteen songs to somebody who is a hardcore bruce right van. I just know what i listened to. It makes me think about the small town where i grew up. Gap thank you. It's very nostalgic. Every time i hear it no matter when it is you know. What's what's interesting is you know. He did A podcast with Brock obama this past year you know they did was six episodes or something and in one of them Brock asked him to play my hometown. And bruce talked about riding it and doing it and Like bruce finishes and he goes pretty good. Song and obama goes great song So i think the issue that in. And i've talked a lot about this with my recent guests is a there is. There's always.

Yeah the trippy stuff. Especially if you happen to be listening to it Either wearing headphones or preferably like in a car with a really good sound system gallery at home with a really good sound system. Where the music moves and of that stuff back in the seventies because everybody was high but I just really really like it. It's always been something that. I really like in the lyrics to led zeppelin stuff a really cool and i know a lot of it is rip off. A lot of it is covers that they stole from other people It doesn't matter. Because i like their version of it so i've always just been a huge led zeppelin van. That's one that's been my whole life. the guns and roses thing is part of it is right place right time mike. But so now if i were to make myself nail it down to Favorite stuff it probably comes down to led zeppelin guns and roses and like stevie ravon something like that There are lot that fit into that Pretty much anything. That's chris cornell related whether it sound gardner audio slavery double the dog It it's a lot of stuff. And he does a lot of covers that i only recently i say recently within the last couple years discovered how many times he's been doing live shows and he does covers so i ended up going onto youtube and i'll listen to six or seven different covers and i'd never heard before and So it it depends on move but like for led zeppelin. Great i am doing great today and is a great day in the world of what different make how are you doing. I'm good. i'm doing really well. I made a new facebook friend the other day. I believe it was you. That's going to this valley girl show at the viper room. Oh gary myrick is playing and he would be a good guest. And i just happened to reach out to him and he answered back and like. Yeah let's talk a pleasure to have somebody respond like to you. He is so great he also has a new album. Our listeners will probably know him from gary myrick and the figures that was his dan back in the eighties and dave mentioned valley girl. He had a couple of songs in the film. Valley girl also havana. Three a m a tremendous ban that needs to be discovered again. His album forever. Adventures in twelve strings is cover songs of some of his own work and some of the work that inspired him. We're going to talk about a lot of these songs that are on this album and kind of tap his brain as to why these songs means so much to having and kind of get the history of gary myrick. I will also say if this is your first time with the what difference does it make. Podcast like and subscribe and tell us about the youtube page. Holly is you can find us on youtube. At what difference does it make podcast. And we're putting stuff up. You'll see outtakes from this chat with gary myrick and subscribe to our youtube channel and on other social media you can find us at. Wdm podcast wonderful. So let's get right into it right now. This is gary myrick on what differences make podcast. Gary i was worried i was going to. I was trying to do all this stuff. And i was worried. It's going to be late on time. Totally find exactly. Yeah have my little friend here. I wanna show you like every nicer. He'll attack right. So that was that was your your puppy. Who is what is your puppies. Name d'artagnan d'artagnan. The three months is. Do you have the three musketeers as well. Well i have six dogs though you can. You can stay but really he's the only musketeer all right. So here's here's what we're going to do. We were looking through the ten songs on your forever. Adventures in twelve strings album. Cool it kind of goes through your life story. I would imagine so not my whole life. But what i did was. There's a few songs that i wanted to re match. I thought they were great songs. And this album really shows the song you really can hear the whole song as it was written. Because it's just me and a twelve string to jar. I play some slide guitar on on my lab. But it's basically me and my guitar and it's the way iraq would write a song and also. It's really fun to sing. And play at the same exact time because you become more one with your instrument and so in this album which lance into blues and beyond. I sometimes hit the guitar like drum break. I'll be singing apart in. Then i'll go into start hitting the guitar with my thumb like bom home keeping a beat like i call it drum break by guitar. Sounds great like that would sounds amazing. I need to beholding my guitar. I don't want to do an overdose. I want to do it right in there. And then i can also. I sang with my guitar. Some seen certain notes with the guitar. Exact notes so. When i that i can do it exactly perfect if i'm playing it. I'm thinking i'm singing. I'm playing at same time bubble and so it makes sense to me and and i was able to show some of the old songs for really.

"On shoes at seventy percent off you buy some that means. You are deeply hard to pass up twenty present off. We let their goes. What are go. Pass them up for seventy percents. I'm only kidding. Seventy percent percent oughta make it real. Okay once you eat a scoop of chocolate ice cream. Do you eat the whole court. Ask yourself why there. And i will suggest to you why you can't just stop because the issue is not the ice cream. It's not the shoes at seventy percent off. It's not the alcohol. It's not to cigarettes. It's not the gambling and it's not the sex. It is something deeper okay. It is a deep pain inside that you do not feel worth being alive that you do not feel you belong on this earth that you do not feel you are lovable and that is an intense pain to really look at okay. Temptation is the dynamic that will show you those parts of yourself that are reaching outward to make you feel more valuable at the expense of someone else. Got it before you actually have to live through the experience so the moment where you're reaching out in that moment. Were you the most tempted. That's the moment you need to stop yourself and look inward yes. You don't need to because if you don't stop yourself you will simply act what it is. You are seeing in this theater in your mind and when you do that you create the painful consequences for you and the painful consequences for others but if you look at the dress rehearsal yeah full-color get full. Cast you right there right there and you walk yourself through your reality and you say what would happen to me really if i did that. And then you decide not to. You have confronted part of yourself. That would have used another person before you used that other person before you created consequences in another person's life that is the power of temptation. Okay i got you. I'm with you. I'm with you. Y'all with okay now. Speaking of shopping we're going to talk to vicky. Who's had this as a major issue in her life. She says that are out of control. Shopping and spending was taking over her life until she read just one paragraph in gary's book. I'm forty five years old. And i'm working as a guidance counselor at a middle school and shopping for me has been a problem for a long time. I used to shop almost every day. If not every other day my big things close. I love shopping for clothes. I couldn't wait to wear something new all the time so i would get the thing home. I would wear it the one time and then it was over. I had to go get something else knew because that little high had ended. I think buying things made me feel real powerful. Are you something that was lacking in me whether it was low self esteem and i just had to keep dressing myself up on the outside to feel good about myself on the inside but i did run up quite a bit of debt and i would say somewhere around twenty thousand to me. Temptation in terms of shopping. And just a way for me to sabotage itself. It was an addiction that i could ignore for long time. Because it wasn't going to kill me. It was hard to really face it as an addiction. A friend of mine recommended gary book one paragraph just changed my life. I mean it just gave.

"Was hoping to talk to ostra. Nemani of the parents defending education organization about this. These dueling demonstrations the other day in virginia school board meeting Parents were concerned who are concerned about the politicization of their schools where met by counter protesters led by a top p. T. a. n. double acp official michelle leat. Who ended her speech with a threat toward parents who oppose critical race theory stating let them die the to the parents of the kids she was just going off now at the podium are with a bullhorn or whatever she said let the parents died. I'm die. Yeah if they oppose this and sees an educator Supposedly top pta official roau critical race theory continues or similar Curriculum you remember how slavery to invade class remember had slavery was taught in your class when you were say in junior high or high seattle. How's it taught. It was pretty much matter of fact. This is what was happening This is where the slave trade originated. This is how long it lasted This is what it was like in the south and in conjunction with the i mean in other words just laid it out. We did there. Were i gotta say. Was it sanitized. Now there were just no agendas. It was in the book and we do. The teacher would do a lecture about it and we take a test about all of that stuff and what's interesting to me Just because of the generation i came from in conjunction with about that time i started seeing these images. You know. you'd have the network news. Sure of the civil rights movement But there was you know. We got one channel out there in the country it was. Nbc's we got the huntley. brinkley report. And i will never forget. And i'll see in the firehoses and the german shepherd dogs and and the images were just so graphic And i'll never forget. And i'm not gonna use. I'm not gonna use the n. Word okay because you can't do that but this would be. This would be a direct quote. I saw this on. Nbc nightly news They stuck a camera and microphone the face of some See white woman in the south at about six teeth. And here's a quote. The dam and words is just no good. I will never forget that. And these firehoses and the cops at a dogs and kind of ri- ri- came from and the time and place and a rural northern midwest. There there was nothing like that. It really hit me between the is it was indelible and then it wasn't long after that the we had the assassinations of our afghan martin luther king and yeah but but but to your point specifically about how it was taught. It was very straightforward. Well the first thing that what are you remember about. I think the first thing that critically i think needs to be addressed is what is age appropriate to start sharing this kind of information. I don't believe grade. School is age appropriate. I'm not even sure middle school is. I'm not certain that this this brand of american history needs to be taught until high school. But where i came from. We didn't begin discussing this until eighth grade And it was. We didn't do a lot of in-depth history of america in in grade school. You know there were the activities associated with certain holidays but most of the major holidays of course came fourth of july or memorial day came after school or summertime. We didn't have that. I can tell you. We didn't spend a lot of time on veterans day or flag day or any of those columbus day but There was a fairly graphic description of slavery in my social studies in eighth grade at irving junior high and the teacher. A woman named carol hodges is an exceptional teacher. I thought she was very good. She didn't sanitize it And she didn't explain how it was that that we got better. The implication was we got better because now we don't enslave black people in this country now. There was a significant gap in the discussion of how native americans were treated in this country. While i grew up in public schools it was not discussed all of the treaties that were broken all the promises. That were left uncapped All of the lies and awful things done by the federal government to native americans. We didn't have discussion of the trail of tears. Or any of that So there was a gap and we need to address those gaps. Those things need to be taught but not in grade school. They need to be taught in ninth tenth eleventh twelfth grade. That's as i recall about the time. They should not be taught. I was taught all in conjunction with the war between the states. Which is the term that was used yet in our school. Anyway as often called a civil war the war between the states and how that came to be and the abolitionists and who opposed it and in the slave owner. And all that. So it really. Anyway i'm sorry about the misfire with oz. Run omani didn't really get into. I will jump up and down on my contact about that. Yes you will..
