"Me for into the depths, a 6 part NatGeo podcast series starting in January. It's gonna be an incredible journey. So we're back, have Bradley joining us. We got Georgia and Alabama. It seems like we just saw that game in football. Not gonna be as physical. No. I can guarantee you. The worst controversial. That's right, exactly. Well, you know, some always intense to happen. But let's talk about Georgia for a second because we keep waiting for that moment when Tom crane. Well, I did their game actually last week at auburn, and they had a lot of turnover. Paul, they had obviously Wheeler now is starting for Kentucky. Right. And when you lose your point guard, Katie Johnson, who stars for auburn, was with George Alaska. So that high rate of turnover with the roster is met by the high rate of turnover on the basketball court. Right. Live ball turnover was in its to me fundamentals. The teams that win consistently, I know, coach speak, take care of the basketball, rebound, get good shots, things like that. And frankly, Georgia, unfortunately, too, has had too big injuries. PJ horn, who they were depending on to come back, Ingram, another guy that they'd be able to big guys play through, they just don't have it. You know, sometimes it's about those horses and they don't got them this year. Alabama hit the scales, but they bounce back a little bit. What are your thoughts on them? Todd fans, take it easy, tied fans. Take it easy. Paul, there are three losses, okay? In SEC play by a combined 12 points. They are the biggest giant killers in college basketball this year. Gonzaga, Houston, even going back to losing a Davidson on a neutral court. Doctor Davidson teams, that's an NCAA tournament team. So we know their backcourt is amongst the best in the country. You take the Missouri game, for instance. They come out in a zone, tough to match up, Missouri gets a lot of confidence, boom, that game's over, but they come back and almost have a chance. So a lot of it is defensively with them, rebounding, defense. If I think they were smaller last, I didn't realize the effect herb Jones. John petty, these guys had, they can still get back there. Like I said, each loss is a one two possession game. And you can recover from that when they get that talent and coach Oates puts them over the edge with his scheme and ability and different things he does. We've seen it in the past, number one team in the country goes on the road, boom. That's where auburn is tonight. I'm not suggesting it, but you carrying a lot more on your back than you were a week ago. Have you ever been to Columbia, Missouri? On a cold, January Tuesday, January. And they're on a cold summer night. It's what dreams go to die Paul, okay? So it was interesting because last week they played Georgia at auburn. And then obviously Kentucky on Saturday. So the whole conversation was, is this going to be a game where they overlook Georgia? Overlook Georgia. In anticipation for Kentucky, they didn't do that, took care of business against Georgia. Now you get the number one seed. Now you understand that target is on your back. You go to Missouri, who Missouri is a tough matchup now because they can play 5 guys out. They have a versatile lineup. They play small ball. And is something about that arena up all they start making shots. They defend this scrappy and for auburn isn't playing at its best. We know in basketball, you make shots, you be physical, you compete in the paint. And you could be in for a battle, but auburn is the deepest team in the country, most Depp, best bench. They're too deep at every position, the versatility, the balance on defense and offense. That's why the number one team in the country. Talking to pat Bradley a couple of games, Kentucky place tonight. Yeah. They're ready for about final 14 with ty ty Washington healthy. He's their best all around player. He does something better than anybody in the country. Rebound the ball. But tie tie is so effective. They were up 9 against auburn. Tie tie Washington gets hurt. And I'm not saying they would have won of Tai Tai was playing, but it would have been a closer game at the end. It just gives you the effect because he's another ball handler on the floor. He can shoot it. He's big enough at 6 three where he can put it on, pull up, jump shot over his defender. So a healthy tie tie washing is good Kentucky and contention. This should be they've had a good year though. They're on the road at rough assess their Mississippi state may have the best transfers in our league. Garrison Brooks rocket watts Shaquille Moore, Ben hall is an excellent job. They play slow. They, they're key is starto Smith, big tolu Smith, start him on the block. Get him roll and play inside out. They do have one of the best point guards in the entire SEC. Iverson molinar 6 three explosive, tough matchup from a guard position because he shoots over his defender. He plays 94 feet. He's fast and athletic. So for mississip, I think it's about they have to be patient because they got to get it in the paint and a lot of times as we know, 1920 year olds aren't patient. If it works once, they don't go back to it. It's like, you know, coach island's like, guys, it just worked three times in a row. Why are you jacking up at three? And we know everybody loves shooters. But of all people for years say that? Exactly, right? Well, I shot it 'cause I couldn't get closer. That's as close as I could. You shot it as soon as you crossed midcourt, didn't you? That was it. Right. That was a daylight. That was the amount of daylight..

"Telling you. When he played at least 20 minutes a game in a game last season he averaged 18 points ten rebounds and 6 humiliating blocks per game. Obviously, I don't think he's gonna average 1810 and 6. But could I see 14 8 and two? I could see 14 8 and two, and it'd be 14 8 and two? You're in a most improved category. For sure, he's got a chance to see it. That's all. I'm a little more skeptical. I think he can be a good player. We'll see. He's not going to necessarily get caught, and as you said, a numbers game. Last year. But no, he's playing. It's walker Kessler and jabari Smith up front. Right. That's a mong, the most talented front courts in America. We're starting to list with drew Timmy chit homegrown that walker Kessler jabari Smith combo is somewhere pretty, pretty close behind them. Jabari Smith has one and done potential. So he might wind up outshining walker. And keep in mind this Alan flanagan, here's where auburn has, jabari Smith is 44 Kessler 65 flanagan is 86. He is going to he is expected to return this season. It's not going to be in November, and it's not going to be before Christmas. Get an Achilles surgery back at the start of September that put him out 12 to 14 months. But if he can get back to somewhere close to where he was last season, he's one of the best returning scorers in the SEC, then I think you're going to have auburn close to a top 30 level kind of team. You also have Jalen Williams a 6 8 sophomore who comes back. So I put them 5 there. I go Florida at 6. My stab at their starting 5, you have a Charleston, south and transfer. Flanders flemming, who I think is going to be one of the top two or three newcomers in the league. Dude, he's just a he was a wonderful small college player who I think is ready to make an adjustment there. Anthony darus is back. That's Flanders with a PH. That's right, one of the best names in the game. Love him. Love his game, and I think that he's going to be a really good fit for Mike white. Anthony torus back, I would expect him to start calling castle in the best player on the roster. He'll obviously start there. I think Penn State transfer, Myron Jones. And then, you know, it might be Brandon mckissick UM Casey transfer there. I don't know, Gators. I think you can safely say it'll be a top 40 team should be in the NFL tournament conversation there. I would put Florida ahead of Mississippi state because it's been forever since Mississippi state was relevant now. It's got a squad this season, or at least it should. Iverson, Molina, top three guard in the conference. And for Mississippi state to have a player like that, as I wrote in our capsule in the top one O one, you know, I understand that we and hardcore Mississippi and maybe SCC Pascal fans know who molinari's but most people don't know who this guy is. And he is just a great example of if you enjoy the college game, there are really super talented high level major conference guards that you just might not be aware of that you'd enjoy watching and Molina is exactly one of those players. He will be one of the best sophomore guards in the country and he's going to be benefited this season because garrison Brooks, whose father has been a coach on the staff of Mississippi state for more than a decade, he's transferred over from UNC and injecting him into the lineup. He's another top 100 player in the country. It gives Mississippi, its most optimistic outlook going into the season in a long, long time. Add in DHA Jefferies from Memphis. They're going to have injury issues to start. Rocket watts is going through a hip thing. He's not going to start the season, totally Smith, the team center who played 31 minutes a night a season ago. He's going to be out until at least Thanksgiving because of foot issues. So, mister B state might be caught in third gear for a little bit, but I think when we look up, it's going to be in the tournament conversation. I'm not a sure I'm not for sure saying they're going to be in. They're going to be close to an LSU's the last thing just real quick on them. They don't have at a Miller. He's done for the year with a 20 ACL. That happened within the past week. So losing, I think that's going to kick LSU out of the tournament. I think they're going to be an NIT team. Darius daze is back and he's back end of our top 101. You could save your pinson in from Missouri. I think he'll be a plug and play guy. After 5 star center, good player. I just don't think we'll see. We'll wade for all of his critics and everything we've talked about him. He gets a ton out of his roster always. So I could wind up being wrong here. But I think that there are going to be hovering around that 7 8 9 spot because they don't have a Miller who was a transfer from Illinois. I learned this in your one to three 58. LSU is one 39 league games past three years. It's more than any other SEC team. I agree, the loser hurts, but Darius days ad Xavier pinson had effed and read the 5 star center. It's another nice rock. It's a good enough roster to compete for a tournament birth for will wade who at this point I'm just gonna assume they're gonna coach at LSU until he retired at the age of 74. Mister B state, I like. You know, this is your 7 for Ben hallen and starfield. Been a one inch display play tournament hasn't won an NCA tournament game. Last time you went into the terminal game was 2011 at UCLA. Last time we went to the sweet 16, 2008 at.

"Yeah, I love the two teams that Jake pointed out. And I think a team that's gonna be really good this year is Arkansas. I mean, they're returning Devo Davis. They're returning JD not tape. Jalen Williams, counter van over, didn't shoot the basketball as well for the three point line last year. They were anticipating, but we talked about speedy guards being able to make plays and Chris likes to transfer from Miami is a guy who can create his own offense getting the lane. You can be a little loose with the basketball at times and streaky from the perimeter. But this dude can get once he gets hot, he can get buckets and all the attention that he'll draw from the point to our position would make scoring easier for everyone else on the floor. So I like Arkansas as well. The hardest part is going to be good. I'm talking to musty on the day he's trying to find out who's going to be he thinks Steve O Davis is going to be there alpha like the guy to get taken over. And make a play. All of these Tony's got a toughness about getting back to Alabama. I mean, last year they were like, top thirds efficiency, but do they have the best backcourt? In the SEC with von quinley, who was suspended for the exhibition game, which is a little disappointing. Davison and shackleford is that the best or one of the best backcourts in the SEC? What did the queenly leave a football game early? He and the kid gravel were suspended for the exhibition game. So I don't know exactly what went on with it, but look, they're really good and you talk about auburn. Auburn's got two underrated transfers. Zep jaspers is a crazy physical, watching them practice or crazy physical defender. And DJ Johnson, the kid from from Georgia. They remind me a little bit of what he had hopper and was a brown, little undersized, you know what I mean? Hard to play against. Yeah. And watching Bruce practice the other day. He's almost genius in putting guys. He's gonna move jabari Smith all over the floor, putting guys in positions, whether it's mid post isos, whether it's he's not just running the old Tom Davis, you know, flex cut action. He runs some really, really creative creative stuff. What are your sleepers? Like, zealous you Florida sleepers? How about Mississippi state? You know, with garrison Brooks, and if they get rocky out through Luke Smith gets back himself. Bad sleepers. I have Mississippi state as being much sleeper. Iverson Molina are is one of the most underrated guards in the country. It can flat out school of The Rock at 6 three to your point total Smith is back. And you put toe Smith with garrison Brooks. Now total can move back to the center spot and give them some rim protection some rebounding there. Garrison Brooks, of course, to make a 15 to 18 foot jump shot played with his back to the basket. I mean, rocket watts, DJ Jeffers, Jeffries at 6 7 really versatile player. And so I like the pieces that they have. And I think I was a mom is my dark horse to be SEC player of the year. He's that good. He'll certainly be first team all ACC. I believe, you know, I think mississip is a great call there. I would have said LSU, but they lost out a Miller, the transfer for Illinois for the season with a knee injury, which really really sucks for them. The other team I would say that may fit into the sleeper category is Florida. You know, I think Florida is going to be pretty good. You know, they got darus back, Applebee's back, castleton's back and you know, he averaged 12 and 6 last year shot around 60%. And they got the kid Fleming coming in from Charleston southern that's probably be their best offender. So that was a good pickup and you know, so many of these players that come in and transfers I understand, you know, you have to have super talent and all that stuff. But guys that can fit in. And are willing to accept a role on a team like Florida because you're not going to come in as the leading scorer from Charleston southern and most likely be the leading score at Florida. But if you're willing to do what it takes to help that team be successful, you know, you can really elevate not only that team, but elevate it yourself. And I think Fleming is one of those players. I think we'll be talking about him as one of the best defenders in the country for the years done. I thought it was interesting that Mike white know that he hit the portal pretty hard. They lost a bunch of guys. Yeah. Every single guy he basically heard it was like a defensive player of the year at their former league. And if you think about Mike at Louisiana task, those teams and those teams were hard playing. Make you react to them. Defensive teams. Now, they've got to take better care of the basketball, but I like Florida as well. I'll tell you one thing. One of my favorite players in the league is there is this, you know that. He's a really, really good player. Xavier Pence is there. I don't know how good they're going to be. But he's a guy that kind of goes to me like under the radar and he does a little bit of everything. Yes. He rebounds any shot 40 from the three averages double figures 8 he's willing to defend her. You know, he reminds me a little bit of a scholar maze that, you know, we don't talk about him, but as people that love the game, you look at him, you say, you kind of admire him. Like he's a guy that I admire that he does what he does, you know, kind of in the background, but he's winning in a really positive way. Are there any players that you want to you're excited to see? Because I think what they actually see is getting dudes. I'd say Scottie Pippen junior at Vanderbilt. He's going to be a first team all SEC player, but his team is probably not going to match him. I don't have Vanderbilt as an NCAA tournament team. But he's going to put up put up numbers and performances that are going to be SportsCenter worthy all year long. So I think most coaches around the league know that he's one.

"Welcome to coincide with greenberg dockage in the south bracket where the number one seed is. Bela number two seaters iowa states. Let's get right into it. John gallagher wild and i like john gallagher. Head coach at hartford neighborhood. Man the neighborhood who here west hartford the neighborhood as the ultimate philly guy. John gallagher is the ultimate dilly guy. I've already got the text from. I've spoken is tipped off banquet a year ago. The dude is certifiably insane in a good way. What he no one is going to enjoy the ncaa tournament more than it. So as soon as they won they immediately went to indianapolis and starts to quarantine and have experienced john. Enjoy it. we're gonna say nice things about you. You're a good guy. And ballard dance so nokes no trepidation about baylor's performance against oklahoma state. Oklahoma states really good people are losing their mind. What at at baylor games. They're playing in the big twelve. They're not planning west coast conference. You're playing in the big twelve. You're planning against other teams that have good players. You're gonna lose games all right. The next game is interesting. Opening round games wisconsin. Why i think he's just not right against north carolina who depending on the day is not right. I mean real simple carolina. You can take care of the ball. Are you gonna make your shot if you take care of the ball and at least get shots up. Then you have an advantage. Except that as we know wisconsin wisconsin's analytics over. Like if you just look at their analytics you would think they'd win every game. They don't give up second shots that will turn it over. They get pretty good shots but they don't play winning basketball. I know that sounds weird. But there's something not right. I think carolina find a way to win that game except the carolina. Jecklin hide reminds of this game. Would you like i like carolina. And this and i look whatever's happened to nate rivers whether it's kobe whether it's whatever it just hasn't been good. I expected more out of him. They don't run their stop nearly as well as they didn't pass they rely too much on one. And frankly they're not a one on one team. And you know what would those big garrison brooks bay. Come and all and bacon's and everybody else you can get into wisconsin. Guards make them drivers into traffic. I think this is a pretty good match up for north carolina. I just think they're better. And i think they're going to win the basketball game and i think they're going to win it fairly big. So if you wanna bet on a game this probably going to have tyke spread. That's gonna move it out a little bit. I think this is the game i think. North carolina wins by double digits. All right to winter is the sexy upset. eco nova plant without conquests. Be justin moore play the other day but wasn't good. They started the set a little bit. You know this is. This is a winter key. May play really fast. I've got a low post lower burns at play him about fifty minutes game. he's really productive. Obviously they got a very good camera. Badran the big six seven kind of point guard because they run the show through a tuck this about. They're extremely aggressive. Pat kelsey really likeable dude. Winter months play fast was gonna try to get into half court who you like. Well i i agree with everything you said. I think winter got a hell of a team. But if this was any other organization other than j j rights organization i would say the winthrop's gonna win the basketball game but you still have robinson hurl. You still have samuels. And if healthy justin moore. You've got three guys. You've got the best three guys on the court. And that always bodes. Well now the point guard situation okay. It is what it is. We all know that point guards at villanova stuff are important. It is the sexy. Pick the five twelve upset all that kind of stuff. But i'm not betting against jay wright and his organisation they just seem to overcome things that need to be overcome when they need to be overcome. I great i agree all right. So now this is an interesting north texas by gurus helmi north texas guards. The crap you absolutely flat can guard you an elite defensive team. They put great pressure notable they then eyeball reversal on play. Two man game with javon Handle it let the point guard and that they are really really good solid defensive team. They turn people over there really aggressive. But you've seen teams like that. Purdue doesn't beat themselves. You pretty has probably i i do. I think this is going to be right down to the wire south because what. I've talked to people today actually. Starting last night couple guys. I was surprised. North texas beat western kentucky. Not because i knew anything about no taxes. But because i saw western kentucky for three games and and they're really good athletic on the wing. Strong tough. I think what you said about the all of the defense bits. Dramatically bad against purdue get up into. They're not the quickest. Get shot team jay nineties really the only one that can i think this is going to be. I'm going to bet against purdue because i think produce offensive analytics put them in the top ten. But nobody's really pressured purdue nobody's really got into them and under wings. Don't take this game for granted. North texas is going to cover whatever the point spread is pretty wins. It the end. Are you got another big time. Texas tech utah state and utah state. Pounds that thing in pain name is cadence a big physical that play a four round. One run actually pretty good motion and so pretty good actions to me. The kid just being an interesting precedent. Don't shoot it as well as they happen to pass but they really defend the top five rebounding They're a very good offensive antiques. Keta against texas tech doesn't have a legitimate big tonight. I mean or cassette said

"C C. Virginia and North Carolina and Bobby When we look at these two teams right now, there are contrasting styles across the board only as to where their seasons are. But how they play, too. Here in 2020 2021. There they almost every way measurable and they are in completely different places, according to our colleagues here at ESPN that John Gassaway has Virginia as the only lock in the tournament from the A. C. C. North Carolina is in the work to do category. You look at the style of play. Carolina is not a good three point shooting team. In fact, they're on pace to have one of the worst three point shooting this there, the second lowest in history in this school's history of 32%. Via a terrific three point shooting team. They make almost nine threes a game and make two more than the opposition. Carolina tries to absolutely hammer you on the backboards. They have the second highest rebounding margin in the school's history of plus 11. It's really not how Virginia's wide although there are good rebounding team, Carolina does not turn the ball over much, and they do not allow a lot of points and Carolina would like this game. To be in the hundreds. If they could they want to make it goes fast as possible. Carolina's inside out. Virginia is kind of inside out in the sense their scores of their front court guys, but they are shooters. These guys can fill it up so every way possible. This is a contrast there's no question is these two get together and Virginia tries to keep this impressive winning streak They got going against the heels. No doubt they have now beat the heels from six straight. North Carolina lied the whole time. Syriza's pretty lopsided 1 31 to 59 but again six straight for Virginia over Carolina, including a pair of games. Last year. Carolina Let's get you their starters in for head coach Roy Williams, who's three wins shy now of 900 for his career will start with the forwards Garrison Brooks averaging double figures on the season. 6 10 senior out of Lafayette, Alabama. Armando Baked cod is a 12.1 points per ballgame. And then the guards, you know, leaky black. He's now a junior. For the Tar Heels Kerwin Walton on the scene. Now as a freshman, he is nine of 15 43 pointers in his last three games, and then Caleb Love rounds out there. Starting 56 FT four freshmen A star from ST Louis, Missouri. We talked about the contrast, One of the other contrast is somebody freshman Carolina plays and they're relying on a freshman point guard right now, Caleb Love who's really coming into his own. He had four threes, 25 points and seven assists. The first ever play in Carolina history to have 25 7 in the wind against Duke, and they are going to rely on their freshman and certainly the Caleb Global leads them and steals, leads them in assists averages, 11 points a game. You're going to look need a big afternoon or evening out of him. Virginia's 14 and three and Here are the starters for head coach. Tony Bennett, the three guard look here features key. Hey, Clark at the point Re Speakman, the freshman from Baton Rouge of the two and then on the wing is Trey Murphy there, sharpshooter. 6 FT. Nine out of Durham, North Carolina, J. Huff has been outstanding. Also a long range bomber. It's 7 ft. One. That's something that is always fun to watch. And then they're starting five is rounded out by the transfer from Marquette. Sam Houser from Stevens Point, Wisconsin. 6, FT eight Senior has been dynamite here of late, although a little dip in his game the last time out, But overall, Sam Houser Bobby, one of your favorite guys, Yeah, I love him the efficiency with which he plays and he didn't score a lot of points that Georgia Tech game. The wind they had wasn't a high scoring game to begin with. 57 49. But he had he was. He was very instrumental in how they ran. Their offense had a season high in assists in that game, and the last game you and I did with Virginia against Pitt when they beat Pitt 73 66. He made in that excuse me, eight field goals and three of them with three pointers. He wound up just the leading scorer and I don't think he touched the ball. But maybe 12 13 times in the game. You talk about offensive efficiency. That's what Virginia does when they're playing well, they don't play fast. Everybody in America knows that yet they're averaging over 70 points a game they had 73 that day. He could score around the basket. He shoots little fade away's. He's a terrific three point shooter. He's their leader and rebounders. He is bringing the whole package. This UV a team and I expect he'll do the same. Against this big front line for Carolina. Here. We have to take them away from the basket and use his shooting ability. But he certainly is capable of doing that. Putting the wall to the floor and going around these big guys for Carolina, which is gonna be, I think a key for Virginia. In the matchup any other keys today before we throw the ball in the air, Bob Well, I mean, you look at Virginia nine and one when they score at least 70 points. I think that's a big deal. But this may be even more telling one They are 10 in one when they out rebound, their opponent. They're just three and two, and they get out rebounded there when the opponents out, rebound them, and that is Carolina's game. Carolina, as I said, plus 11 and rebounds Said, and the last game that Carolina plating in stupid they scored 27 fast break points and 28 2nd chance points. Those are two things that Tony Bennett is absolutely adamant. They are not going to give a fast breaks. They're not gonna let you get to the glass. So.

Sam Houser Tony Bennett Trey Murphy John Gassaway Kerwin Walton 12 10 Duke Caleb Love Roy Williams 32% 25 points Baton Rouge 12.1 points Garrison Brooks 28 America 59 today 2020

No good, But Bacon is right there, and he tipped it in Armando Baked cod goes up for the offensive rebound and knocks it home to put Carolina on top by four Do calling for the goaltending. I wish they'd just get away with offensive goaltending anyway. Let him throw it down. There's wind. Two minutes in it hurt, launching a three for the left wing that short off the rim and again, bacon walls up Williams inside for the rebound. Over the leaky Black Carolina The move of the front court and black bumped into by more out of the perimeter on the foul against window more will be his first. Not a great shot by Matthew Hurt he he was in a nice, Oh, situation with Garrison Brooks. I like that. He's going to be aggressive offensively, but not the first three that you get. That was just a face up. Tough shot. Three. If it goes, it could turn things around. Inbounds pass to love. Levels over on the right side bouncing bacon, right elbow takes the trouble. Works his way down the paint. Lays it up a little bit too strong and hurt. Is there for the Duke rebound? Mark Williams has been disruptive. Just contesting everything at the rim. When Gilmore with one handed pass over on the right side to Stuart Jab, step with his right foot against Walt Jabs again. Dribbles left gets into the paint. Stuart turns pump fake Turns back to the baseline puts it up Mr Short front of the rim. And Walton has the North Carolina rebound. Million dollar move five cent finish. Everything was right about that plan set for the finish bounce pass into Brooks is knocked away by hurt from behind. Brooks dies on the floor saves possession up top. The love he dribbles left, gets banged into by road to the foul line. That'll be a foul against, Jeremy wrote. She picks up his 1st 2nd team foul against the Blue Devils. And that's been a problem for for Coach K and the Blue Devils this valley. They usually dominate that department because they have guys that can attack off the bounce. And finish at the rib. They don't have that this year. You don't have that type of wing because Jalen Johnson has to play big, but also the young guards don't know how to defend without fouling lot of hand checking calls for the Blue Devils so far. 45 41, North Carolina on top 17 20 to go in the game, Tar Heels with the basketball Love gets the Brooks top of the circle Beyond New York roots waits for the traffic to clear get it down the Bay Kat left the lane spins around Williams, with right leads back to the left puts it up. Williams may have gotten a piece, It's out of bounds, looking to say off Williams Carolina will keep it with five to shoot. But there's Mark Williams again. Being disruptive. Being disrupted, did a good job of avoiding picking up the foul. He gapped, which means he jumped back and used this length to contest and not his body. Carolina will inbound baseline left his five to shoot. Love will trigger love. Looking looking. Gets it in the black. He'll take the jumpers. 16 ft. Away, left the lane and swishes it home. It's just deplorable defense on the out of bounds underneath. Duke fell asleep. Didn't communicate didn't identify threats. And with no time on the shot clock, you get up in his look. 47 41 Carolina now a backdoor cut by Roach along the baseline, he lays it in to make it 47 43 young guys for both teams falling asleep defensively, You can't allow yourself to get back up to the basket that easily love dribbles Left turns to quarter on Hurt, puts it up off the glass and scores for two Caleb Love would not be denied. He's got 12 in the ball game in North Carolina leads 49 43. And bounce pass to Roach. Now, Stewart with it out between the circles check by Walton Stuart pounding it out with left hand. Roach curls up. They bounce into him, but he had turned away from it, and Brooks grabs the steel handed off the love love with lob inside Baked cod is there for the two handed slam Armando Bake out is into double figures with 10 and North Carolina leads 51 43. Where careless turnover for Duke, and it cost him again. Wendell Moore with the dribble over on the left wing for the Blue Devils. We'll wait for roads to come take it beyond the arc. William sets the screen. Roach doesn't want it. Dribbles left gets into the paint uncontested to the ram. Anyways, it in off the glass. I'm not sure if that was on Armando Baker, who went hi to hedge on the ball screen. Caleb Love allowed the ball to go baseline where he had no help. Just poor communication. 51 45, North Carolina. Here's Brooks about the foul on inside the baker got Williams buried, lays it up into the foul. Big got got Williams underneath the rim took the bump and later Dan and bake Kat will be at the free throw line. When we come back 15 41 to go in the ballgame. North Carolina has rebuilt the lead to eight. Tar.

"Five of nine shooting. He's five for five inside the art missed all four of his three pointers. He has 10 points for Notre Dame to win. At the very minimum, you need a guard and afford to be having a good game. We are back now to live action. It's Carolina basketball with Notre Dame leading by four and al you pass inside is knocked away by Cormac Ryan right into the hands of Andrew Play Tech. He hasn't now middling right side bounces it down to sharp working on less Chesky. His jump hook is up. No good. Let's just he can't get the rebound but keeps it alive. But they keep the lot right to pump Johnson. Not a sharp he puts it up. No good gets his rebound again. Finally, there's a foul and that that is the kind of offensive rebounding blitz that the Irish just can't afford to give up. The problem is when you got so much size. In the North Carolina side and sometimes just hard to stop this Carolina that time had four offensive attempts. So sharp that the line. Fortunately, he misses the free throw. He will get another Ryan coming back in. Mike Brey knows he needs the beef inside or again, Zona. At Zona coming back, and he's got five rebounds. Sharp makes the second free throw is now five for seven from the charity stripe. Notre Dame leads by 3 49 46 10 minutes exactly remaining second half of play. Comes up with a basketball gets it over to Cormac Ryan Ryan of the left to the top of the key goes around the screen from the chef ski Right now between his legs. Ryan, mid Lane left side, Ryan. Nice dump past delicious key you puts up anything gets fouled. What a great pump Fake Bilis Chesky to get his man in the air, waiting for the contact and then put it up in n fouls on sharp. Just his second. No Carolina player has Maura than to Lucious. Flying through the air for the rebound. Put it up in in his day, Ron Sharp, Nobody blocked out. And that makes it 51 48 3 point lead again for the Irish. Pub with the basketball IRA shooting 64% of the second half hug now driving Next to the A. C C logo back to Zona. Not delicious key back to have 43 off the back of her in front of the rim. No good. Sharp with the rebound out toe love love quickly over the mid court strike Tempo favoring Carolina right now, past comes up top to Puff Johnson, who dumps it off to Sharpe over the Playtex play. Let's Chesky 22 points and now a steel in the backcourt by Cormac Ryan was going to say he kicked the ball. As it was a bounce pass. Schatsky with 22 points. Eight for 12 from the 46 of nine from beyond the arc to go with eight rebounds, six point noted, namely the Irish shooting. 62.5% behalf inbounds pass not to love Love over to Brooke's Garrison Brooks. Tops it off to play Tech back toe love top of the key love top of the key junker jumper is good. So love Now that's his first bucket of the game. He's one for five shooting, but he cuts the Irish lead to 4 54 50 with 805 remaining in regulation time. Here's Cormac Ryan with a basketball Ryan driving down the lane. The Irish again have led for most of the 16 minutes and 39 seconds, The Irish have held the lead. Back with the basketball now to Brooks Brooks inside, download his sharpest jump hooks, No good and another rebound. By Matt Zona. Comes up with a basketball over the big court strike. Hub, burbling to his right hub passes to Durham, who fakes the jumper drives to the right block, double pump shovels it back out the hub for the 16 footer. That's good. Terms such a good pass or setting up up there, and it's 40 to 38 Notre Dame by four again. Black with a basketball driving to the left block cut off by Jogo just came back into the game. Now it's up top to Davis. Outline. The jumper is taken and made by Garrison Brooks and we have a two point game 42 40 both teams shooting a little better here. In the second half. Carolina at 33%. Notre Dame is 56% there. Five of nine of the fighting Irish and half number 2 42 40. "A nice runner on the base line, and got filed before last media time out. Black has five points. Briefer Brooke, six for Walt, six for Sharp two for Kessler and two for Johnson for Carolina, Carolina shooting 32% 36% from three. So they're they're doing what they normally do. They're hanging in there with offensive rebounds. Black completes the three point play with the free throw. So it's 26 25, Notre Dame by 13 12 remaining First half of play. The basketball is hub of high post lists Chesky. Let's Chesky Hands it off to hub hub drives left side of the lane. Wheels it back out to the Chesky less Chesky. Nice backdoor cut by Ryan and left. Cesky hits him with a pass. Now he throws it up to Goodwin Goodwin. Nice fake drives down the lane throws it off the classic. He can't get it to drop. It goes off the rim and falls off. 26 25 Letter Name by 1 to 45 remaining first half Other passing comes into baked hot for the dunk inside. He got position on Luschek ski, and that gives Carolina 27 26 lead. 2 34 remaining first half of play. Here comes home with a basketball hub. Throws it in the corner to Ryan back to hub of now on over to Goodwin Goodwin in the corner of the chef ski lifts Chesky 43. That one is no good rebound by Garrison Brooks. He hands it off to R. J. Davis. Davis left foul line Extended Davis now toe Black Cross Court pass to Walton gets it inside to bake out of double pumps does not yet the shot to drop but draws another foul on Maybe Notre Dame needs to get a little bit more aggressive. Carolina has been called for one foul in this game. That is the seventh against Notre Dame Carolina's on an eight hour run over the last 2 17. The Irish have missed six of their last seven shots and haven't scored in two minutes and 46 seconds. They caught at the line or he's a 68% free throw shooter. He knocks that one down. They caught now one for three. From the free throw line. He will get another. He has three points and five rebounds. 28 26 Carolina by 2209 remaining here first half of play in Chapel Hill. Hey, Kat makes him both its 29 26. This matches Carolina's largest lead of the game. They've never led by more than three. Hubble bring the ball over the mid court strike as we hit the two minute mark of half number one. Now dribbling to his left hard left foul. An extended monsters that over to Joe Go up top. Now it goes toe hub of cross court. Goodwin fakes drives to the elbow throws it right side Zona for three. That one is short, long rebound is corralled by Playtex. We have a foul on North Carolina. Just the second in the half. Your name is the leading free throw shooting team in the A. C. C and they've done a good job in many games being aggressive and getting to the line. But now with the basketball with right at the top of the key to Zona now throws it, toe hub back to Joe. Go, Joe, go up top to Goodwin 10 on the shot clock on over to Cormac Ryan. Let Fallon extended Ryan. Now. Elbow jumper left side is good. You got knocked over. They did not blow the whistle. But that does pull the Irish to within 1 29 28 1 28 remaining first half of play. Black with a basketball toe Walton to black out of a cot in the lane. Turn around jump up from the A. C C logo was way off. It's nothing but backboard. Goodwin saves it to Cormac Ryan so the Irish can retake the lead with 1 15 remaining in the first half of play. Ryan now over the big court strike Ryan between his legs dribbling to his left Now, Ryan Passes up top the hub top of the key hub. Now on over now to Joe, Go, he goes top. The key shovels it to Zona Zona now. Good one in the corner. Jogo, actually right file an extended now he drives to the corner. Step back jumper from 16 is no good. But Jogo gets his own rebound. And I'm trying TOC. What? Call Woz. Guess they're just going to say that it was touched. By a Carolina player. No, it's a foul on Brooks. All right? Works with the foulest jogo drove the baseline. That's the third foul in North Carolina. No shots involved. Jogo comes out. Let's Chesky comes back in Ryan inbounds to Goodwin Goodwin up top, Not a hub hub between the circles. Hub, not a quarterback Ryan three. Put her on the way right side short. Rebound. Bounces into the hands of Andrew Playtex. Latex gives it off to a leaky black up top to play tech. Latex. Now back to black fakes. The three dozen take it up top now curling Walton for three. That's no good, but the rebound is bad it into the backcourt were hub takes it and he makes a nice euro step. Move to the basket. The ball goes around the rim to full times before dropping into the net and the Irish leave 30 29. 20.4 seconds left time out on the floor. Time out, called by Roy Williams, and he's not happy with that sequence of events. The Irish pub with four. "The transfer market is kentucky. My hat do well. I'll be surprised if they are on. Sharp's backs seems like other evaluators are much higher on him. That i am By the way they don't really need him back because they have kessler and bay khattab exact. So like they're fine in garrison brooks still exists. Garrison brooks has not been very good this year. He's forty nine true shooting percentage and Turning the ball over like crazy like it's been a struggle for him as much as it's been a struggle for everyone else in north carolina but we can trust the garrison brooks will probably figure it out at some point Just based off the track record that he showed last year. I guess that like what point does our patients need to turn into. Okay this is just not gonna happen this year. Like what does that happen very i. I don't know it it's creeping up. It's creeping me now. You're into conference play it. It's probably just a few games away to be frank like i think a lot of these guys. We've given benefit of the doubt because of the surrounding circumstances but at some point. Like you're gonna show what you can do you don't even if it's just flashes for some guys it has to be consistent flashes can't always be one game three off another game here and there. There has to be consistency yet. So it's hard to do mock drafts. 'cause you don't know what you're getting so kentucky for me. It's going to be three weeks. They have mississippi state. Who's not great vanderbilt. Who's just not very good at all. Alabama whose similarly like kinda young in like talented but a little bit all over that they have more experience than kentucky does but like you. They have guys like josh primo and they have you know a transfer coming that you know didn't play for them last season but was practicing with them. Vonk winner lee right Like they have they have talent. They have some experience but not quite as much is like a team that they should be better than they are so far. I think alabama more talented than they've shown so far auburn. Auburn's been kinda sneaky interesting. Have you watched them much. I have. I didn't know about justin. Paul empowering the program so i have watched them powell and flanagan or both pretty interesting I kinda sneaky intrigued by both I i don't know that either of them necessarily twenty twenty one prospects. But yeah joe justin powell. He might be twenty twenty one guy. I don't think he is but he might be. Yeah i think. I said be twenty three to makes more sense but might be twenty one. Yeah what a fine for them. Like losing sheriff. Cooper cooper. The would be like awesome. He still practices. I think. I saw some video today of hitting three from like the logo. Actually pretty intrigued by where they go longer. Then after auburn they have georgia. That gets you to january twentieth. Okay if one jerry. Twenty is pretty good so they have this little break here for a week where they hopefully can get better. Then they have six games against teams. That are not like crazy. Great right like the schedule is not loaded in the way that it's been like there's no louisville north carolina kansas In that schedule so like richmond sneaks up on you right and like richmond is just a very very difficult match up for them early in the season because that team is just loaded with seniors so yeah instead is tough to scout for. Yeah and i would say kentucky..

"On sunday. We spent several minutes discussing a disappointing blueblood with the hall of fame coach kentucky led by john calipari today. We'll spend another few minutes on another disappointing blueblood with another hall of fame coach this time it's north carolina and roy williams the tar heels fell at nc state on tuesday. Seventy nine seventy six so now. Five and three. The other losses are texas in iowa best win over stanford ladder you and i both had north carolina projected as the third best team in the acc in the preseason. Are we still confident. Unc is a top three in the acc. No did i really have them third. I looked double checks man. it's not ideal right now. we both had it. We both had it. Virginia duke north carolina in that order. Well i didn't have carrots. So here's where. I differed in the preseason with some of the projections yours and and others. I did not have carolina ranked in the top twenty five portion of my one two three fifty seven. I i put carolina twenty eight. And i remember before like settling on an ultimate order like my first initial like. Let me throw everything at the wall. I think i'd carolina like thirty six or thirty seven and the reason was they were so poor last year. I mean historically bad. It was one of the five or six worst seasons in school history. Statistically that i was just. I wasn't totally sold on them. Going from fourteen and nineteen a season ago to being if your top. Three team in the acc <hes>. You know that's probably a four seat at worst. And i wasn't all in on him there. I thought okay. Maybe they can get along the lines of a five or six seed and that was really what wound me wind up with me. Booting them up a little bit. But at this point you know. I watched the majority of that. Nc state game. I would argue. It wasn't even a three point game. Nc state truly beat them by six or seven points now five and three losses the losses all respectable so. It's an interesting situation with unc. Here lost texas in a really really good game championship. Which was obviously nashville. Then they lose at iowa but it wasn't that competitive ninety three eighty. Now they take the road loss against nc state. The win against kentucky and cbs sports classic has almost no value. The win over stanford is solid but otherwise charleston. Unlv north carolina central their next game at georgia tech a week from one. We're talking here. On december thirtieth so i think there is still the chance and with all due respect as always to leaky black here. And he's actually. I think he's. He's been good in spots but they're not as good as they should be. I still really love. The frontline is still think. This could be one of the courts in america but it should be noted fourteen thousand nine hundred last season. Now it's five three. And i'm not gonna guarantee you that this team is heading to the instability tournament and in the preseason. Unc got by on its jersey name. I don't know i. I was always a little hesitant there and some of that has come to the surface. This is clearly clearly not a top twenty five team right now. In north carolina as you mentioned the go fourteen and nineteen last season and the reason that i had them in the preseason top twenty five and one thought that they would have a really nice bounceback season because they in elite recruiting class featuring three five star freshman. The way they're supposed to go from fourteen and nineteen to really good is that three five-star freshmen are great. And they're all fine. I guess but none of them are playing like freshman of the year candidates like against nc state day. Ron sharpe had six points. Fourteen minutes walker kessler had three points and twelve minutes. Caleb love had eleven point four assists two turnovers in twenty eight minutes. Like if you're five star freshman aren't gonna perform like five star freshman consistently well. Then you're not going to go from from bad to to really good. You can go from bad to good from bad to respectable from bad to an ncaa tournament team. "Academy goes North Carolina the consensus top five, recruit the top ranked guard the country. So gets a North Carolina. He starts a season House afire is thirty four eleven and five Notre Dame, and like you I I've kind of been all over the map on them and I was getting those text like see he's really good. You're wrong hater whatever then plays walk into NCW has twenty and ten, twenty, eight against Gardner Webb there's numbers really starting to taper off a little bit once the conference. And it is important to note that he was out for a month with an injury he could have shut it down. Then some people speculating would. Then toward the end of the year. Is last season. Gamons Duke. Fourteen. He had ten turnovers over two games than the A C. Tournament and lose to start Houston the year by twenty eight. So when you Dr Deeper into the numbers, he only shot thirty three percent from the field. Versus ranked teams, I. I just questioned if that's consistent enough for a team to Kinda, give him the keys from day will. So. Frankly, it's not like if you just go purely by numbers, it's not It's it's just doc. The numbers are not their production is not there the efficiency is not they're? Not The big question is, how much do you? Buy into the idea that North Carolina held him back and I frankly do on some level having said that his numbers are so rough that. You have to buy into it even beyond the level that I think even I do on some level, right like North Carolina around him this year the most common lineup was Brandon Robinson Armand obey leaky blacking garrison Brooks Brooks is good Brian Robinson can shoe but none of the other three can shoot and every single time calling it that he drove is just collapsed uncle claps uncle. How do I know that that was the goal of of college coaches I talked to them and literally everything that their defense was built around was collapsing on coal Anthony Droughts. It didn't really hinder them defensively against other guys either because what are you gonNA. Kick out to leaky black for a shot in act like that's a good shot for north. Carolina or in the case of Bacon Brooks, those guys are already around the basket actually like. Every time they would run pick and roll team would play drop coverage because garrison brooks isn't GonNa pick and Pop Armando Aycot can't finish outside of four feet so There was just no recourse for not packing the paint against Coal Anthony. So how do you go about and that's like with their best lineup? Brandon Robinson missed eight of the Games that Cole Anthony played this year. So like a lot of the time you're talking about replacing Brandon Robinson with Christian, Keeling Andrew Platek, and Justin Pierce. Those three combined to shoot twenty five percent from three this year..

UNC's Lost Season

"Jeff Bordello. I'm a little shook. North Carolina finished the regular season. They lose to do because that's fine we're used to that but they're the lowest seed in the ACC tournament North Carolina. So some how you would view this season for the tar heels. I mean they're arguably the most disappointing team in the country. Jeff Portillo is a college basketball insider for ESPN. And I know we have to take some other factors into account with injuries. And Karl Anthony and things like that but you know this was a preseason top ten team that like you said is going to be the bottom seed in the ACC tournament in the ACC is not goodness here. It's a it's a pretty down league you know. There are Miami. Nbc in Wake Forest Pittsburgh. None of those teams are very good and Carolina is at the bottom of all that and to me. That's shocking you know. This is one of the best of all time blueblood like I said a top ten preseason team and four months later five later. They're the worst team in the ACC. It's one of the bigger stories in college football this season and I think you could really make the case that there are the biggest disappointment in college hoops so let's go back to October. Preseason rankings come out North Carolina's in the top ten. They're sitting at number nine refresh everybody in what the real expectations were coming into this season for this team. I mean they a lot of guys from last year but they did bring in what people expected was an impact recruiting class was led by Karl Anthony Centerpiece of Roy Williams retooling effort. It's chole Anthony. Going the top freshman in the country making his debut tonight from of a raucous crowd here that the dome he was expected by pretty much everyone to be the most productive freshman in the country. That's how he wasn't high school that's where he was on the scene. He was a guy that was going to put up big points. He was gonNA put a big assist numbers. He's going to rebound and he was going to win games. That's just that's just what he was at the high school level and people expected him to to be that same player Carolina and it. Kinda set up perfectly for him because he was able to come in and this was a team that didn't have any real goto guys coming back. So they said hey collapsed. And you're getting the ball from day one and you're gonNA lead us and you know it kind of looked good. You know in the first game of the season. He was terrific. He had thirty four points. Eleven rebounds five assists debut for coal. Anthony lost a lot of stars to the NBA. After last season with the go one superstore Chambal. Whom the feeling was that? You know this team is going to be okay. Even despite the losses and along with him they brought into Grad transfer. Is that you know. We're probably two of the five or seven best. Grad transfer is in the country was Christian Keeling from Charleston southern just NPR's from William and Mary and and that added some experience at its veteran leadership and combined with a couple of other guys are Mondo Baker was a five star recruit garrison brooks was a two year starter download so i. I just think that people thought you combine the newcomers with the guys returning and even though there weren't any stars coming back from last year's team there was enough here to to compete for an ACC title and Roy Williams has done this before where his team is is written off a little bit in the preseason and under rank behind teams like Duke and he finds a way to win and that's just what he does and and I think people expected him to do it again with the guys coming in and coming back well so now you've got a team that has preseason expectations they get into. The season was the first time this season there was the first real sign of concern that the season might not go the way some had hoped. I think it was a couple of things I think one was even when they were winning the game. They won their first five games of the season. But even some of those the Notre Dame win the Alabama win. There were some signs of. Is this team going to be as good as we thought were Williams? I you get the sense. He hasn't loved all aspects of his teams. Play here today. You know he has. He has not name barely beat. Notre Dame eleven point margin was it. It wasn't addictive. How close the season opener was against Notre Dame so I think there was. Okay let's give it time. Let's let Cole Anthony. And the other freshman get acclimated and this team will figure it out but they lose by twenty five at home 'til Ohio state to start December. You know then they lose that. Virginia you know losing effort gene is not not a usually a big concern. This is not a vintage Virginia team and I think most people realize that at that time and then they lose to Wofford. They ended up finishing below five hundred in the southern conference. Terriers come to Chapel Hill and knock off a top twenty five North Carolina squad. And that's when the you know the eyebrow start raising what's going on with his team are they poised to be this massive disappointment and obviously once call. Anthony gets hurt. The wheels fall off from their breaking news. Call Anthony out four to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus. Well at that point you know maybe things are a little bit concerning. But they're going to get two. Acc conference play. You said it the ACC not the best conference in the world so they get to the ACC schedule. How's that go form? You look at their schedule and you said okay they can. They can weather the storm three straight home games in. Acc play against Georgia Tech Pit Clemson and they had games against Pittsburgh Virginia Tech Miami even a bad UNC team or even a a mediocre UNC. Team could go six in Owen. Those games it was kind of the the bottom half of the league and they went one and five losing the first five games of that stretch. Seventy nine seventy seven double-overtime Virginia tech knocking off North Carolina. I think that was almost getting the end. When you look back the schedule what would be the one moment that sort of pushed everything over to the point in return honestly I think it was after Columbia comes back a long ways away. Eleven Games without call Anthony but he will play tonight. Yeah the five hundred. Unc team suddenly. Jay has a lot of juice and he'd be Miami. Nc State then call and he comes back for a home game in Boston College and you know. They weren't very good at the time but they tended ten three and six in the ACC and you know the the narrative was kind of okay. If Cole Anthony Comes back the committee will look at them and say you know with call. Anthony this is an NCAA tournament team. He's going to be on the roster in the NCAA tournament they're going to factor that in so I think people started wondering can. Unc string together. Some wins and make a late run and in his first game back. You lose at home to Boston. College straight three other time. He's spoiled return. I think that was the sign that it's not going to happen so that's not. Obviously the only epic moment we all continue to think about from the season tickets back to the first game between North Carolina and Duke. The Duke Game was a game that that could have turned things around at least changed the narrative about Carolina and to lose in that fashion. Another late blown lead. Losing to your biggest rival do comes back not to be Carolina to me. That was that was a really low mon it just because it it could have been really a season changing moment for Carolina and the way it happened it just it kind of sent them even further down into the season
