"Chicago teacher union leader joining the hypocritical ranks, the likes of which are joined by Gavin Newsom and the mayor of Boston, as well as mayor of San Francisco and several other prominent elected leaders during the pandemic. You're listening to 93 w I B. C. I'm your host, Ethan Hatcher flying solo. Hosting the show of Saturday night on the circle, aided by my faithful producer, Donnie on the board. We appreciate your work there. Donny, the Chicago teachers Union leader caught of course, vacationing while admonishing others of the danger of Cove in 19, and its fearsome spread over the pandemic s. Oh, yes, of course, This has been a message that's been repeated several times at this point. You have Garrett Gavin Newsom out traveling, telling other people not to you. Mayor of Austin Out traveling, he was in Kabul. San Lucas, Mexico, telling other individuals not to travel. You have the mayor of San Francisco dining out of the French laundry days before closing down restaurants in our own city. You had Nancy Pelosi getting a private in the salon haircuts when other individuals were prevented from doing so, and the Chicago Union leader no different Sarah Chambers member of this crowd ago, Teachers union executive Word and area vice president boasted about a vacation to Puerto Rico when days before she had warned others about reopening Chicago's public schools for in person learning and said that it would result in wide spread Corona virus outbreak. Oops. See, the thing is when there's such a drastic disconnect between your words and your actions you're signaling to world not to take you seriously. Chambers stated on her. Sarah for Justice Index Instagram account. I'm here with my friend. You also had coveted. So you're in close proximity with individuals who've been previously infected. You're going on what would be classified by many liberals as a quote, unnecessary vacation? Unnecessary excursion during a pandemic. Um and going tol going to travel. Spent the last day of 2020 spools up pool side. We have the whole pool to ourselves going to an old going to old San Juan to get some yummy sea foam seafood, my fungo and we have an entire private Airbnb house to ourselves this, Chambers said. Of course, she later removed, the pope removed The post and Since then, the union has not made any comment on the hypocrisy went into Yep, So anyway, yeah, hypocrisy on the part of the Chicago teachers Union leader, which is just par for the course of this point. I also want to talk about the changing landscape of food and how the pandemic is affecting the restaurant industry. In particular, we we've discussed restaurants have been hit particularly hard and The Wall Street Journal made particularly notes. That it's big chains, big business like to paddle Mexican Grill and Domino's pizza, which are gaining customers and adding stores when others are shuttering their doors permanently. Between. Between March 1st and September 10th. Three quarters of the nearly 22,000 restaurants that closed their doors had fewer than five locations. It's also, uh, sending Mary. It's also bad news for downstream customers because, according to some estimates, from the economic policy in this institute, 100 restaurant jobs, local restaurant jobs mom and pop restaurant jobs support more than 50 suppliers, as holds such asshole slayers, asshole sailors or farmers. Um, independent farms rely on independent restaurants because big chains don't buy from local farms. So when your mom and pop business there, mom and pop restaurant goes out of business, it's your local farmers and local food. Wholesale distributors who are suffering downstream from that, And another thing to consider is that these big distributors like a lot of people don't know McDonald's is very picky. When it comes to their French fries. Now, you may not believe that because of the very disappointing result at the end of the transaction when you get said fries, But that's because they changed over to vegetable oil from port from pork lard, But that's a different discussion entirely. What I mean is that big businesses like McDonald's and Chaparral source. Their products from very specific places like McDonald's, is picky about the particular type of potato that is used. To make their French fries they're so picky is a matter of fact, they have their own genetically modified strain that is a proprietary traitor product of McDonald's corporation that they sell to farmers in India, who then have the privilege of planting MacDonalds potatoes for harvest. And that is a real thing. You could go look that up, but it's s so when your mom and pop businesses shut down, there is more devastation than what can just be seen at the surface level. And these lockdowns have ah have had an inordinate and disproportionately beneficial effect on the biggest businesses as governments have made it illegal to support small business and shuttered them by law. They have shuffled the customer base to mega corporations who have reaped the benefit as a result, I s Oh, so yes, Don't Don't let these government officials fool you into believing the shutdowns or for your own good. They're not there for the benefit of mega billionaires anyway. Also, another thing to take note of is the startling number of health care workers who say that they're not going to be taking the vaccine, at least not yet. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine noted that he was troubled by the relatively low numbers of nursing home workers in a state elected to take the vaccine stating approximately 60% of nursing staff declined the shots so far. Dr. Joseph Barone, credit chief of critical care of Houston's United Memorial Medical Center, told NPR in December that more than half of his nerve nurses in the unit said that they would not get the vaccine and 55% of those surveyed in the New York Fire Department said they wouldn't get the vaccine either. And the L A Times reported on Thursday. Hospital in public officials in Riverside, California have been forced to figure out how to allocate unused Doses after 50% of frontline workers in the country refused the vaccine. And this was all could also echoed by Dr Nikkila, Jew body chief political officer at Chicago's Loretta Hospital, where they say survey administered in December resulted with 40% of the staff, saying that they would not get vaccinated. So that's very interesting stuff. And a lot of Healthcare workers site in particulary their lack in the faith of the government to produce a safe vaccine. So that's going to be interesting on DMA war evidence that it's time to end. The lockdown is and open back up, because clearly at this point infection is a choice. If you're refusing the vaccine and you get infected, that's a personal decision. Government can't stop you from that. Anyway, I gotta leave it off. There were running out of time. I need to transition to my next segment. So stay tuned. You're listening to Saturday night on the circle on 93 Wi.

"Seven ninety Tucson's. Most stimulating talk. Seven forty three three things. I think you need to know number one sheriff Napier Yanks ice agents out of his jail to try to appease supervisors, so they'll approve stone garden grants for next year, the stone garden grants, and dick Lee has already said. Yeah, not not not good. Not good. I just got a message from sheriff David he will he's going to call in. So we'll ask him about this stuff. Second thing. I think you need to know be on the lookout. Ryan, you don't mind second thing. I think you need to know the Trumpster is going to be in Mesa later tonight. Probably around seven thirty for a start for a rally for MC Sally rally from exactly what is he thinking about? Here's dan. What does he what is he going to say, we'll find out what's the nickname going to be? We'll bring you that coverage here on campus the aim seven ninety when he gets on stage. Third thing I think you need to know that migrant caravan making its way up to Mexico. Well, now, we have five hundred federal he's out there with Reich year and everything and there's a plan apparently plan in place, the the American government Mexican government been negotiating for months on how to deal with this. And they're going to bring in UN with refugee camps. They're going gonna build refugee camps. I guess on the southern border of Mexico pretty frigging sweeter. They've been thinking this thing through three things. I think you need to know. Where are we wanna rate? Okay. Now, this whole controversy. With sheriff Napier Yankin ice ages out of his jail to talk about it. Sheriff Napier sheriff doing this morning. Good. I knew I was going to get beat up. But that's to be expected. All right. So. You wrote an op Ed where you said you you want an ice agents in your jail because it made sure there was one hundred percent. Handoff rate to ice officials. There are bad guys. You didn't want that any any chance of bad guy would be put out on the street. So why take the chance now? Well, what we've done Garrett. This looked at how many people in jail have ice detainers, and we found that it's a lot lower number that we're we're imagined. It was in fact, there were very few people in jail without that are undocumented illegal aliens ice was very infrequently there anyway. Because it connect problems they have been there sparsely over the last two months. So we talked to her ice Rams said that we believe that it still workable to go back to the old solution. We still cooperate with him. We still call them. It takes us about two hours style process somebody from the jail during that two hour gap ISIS able to come and take custody of those people that they have an interest in. So it was a mutual decision between us, and is that right now, that's a workable solution in are millions of dollars in stone garden funding that I'm hoping to secure because that really does keep us say, okay. So. Knowing that dick Leah's has already said that this has nothing to do with stone garden funding. Do you want to reverse the decision? I can reverse the decision at anytime guarantee. This space is still there wasn't. He says nothing to do with it. He said, this is nice. He called what you did very brazen. Brazen politics. So he doesn't think that what you did. Even even worth it. Well, there are five members of the board. I need three votes in order to get stoned better-funded. We have a funny requests, we submitted a federal everybody for the next round will stone garden, that's almost two million dollars that money is fundamentally necessary for me to be able to keep us safe. They have a chance to do the right thing to remove politics from this nonsense and approve that funding. There's hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment Clendenin that grant request him one point one billion dollars with what we're tired. I need that money in order to stay safe. I understand really interdict. Yeah. Those straps. I chance to make that vote. I'm just short on time. And maybe I'll keep you over if we can in the next half hour, and what we'll bump alley to another half hour after that. But. Well, one of the things that this is agents have been in the office in the in the jail going back to dupe, Nick and Nanos is that correct? No. No, I put ice of jail about roughly year ago, where the only jail in the state that had embedded ice in jail because all the other sheriffs same procedure that we used to which is we call them, and they come and pick the people. Okay. So what? Did they have an office though? We're did they have a place where they could be is that because I'm being told by people that ice always had an office going back to Duke, Nick and Nanos. No, that's that's simply not your office. When I took office in January of seventeen we always communicated with them. They always had access to the jail, which they still do. They still have access to the jail like law enforcement. But I established a little cubicle for them after I took office. So that's inaccurate. Okay. So let's go back to Richard alias, and Sharon Bronson and Ramon Valdez a three supervisors that are against this. Now, why put the public in risk? You could say that there's not much of a risk or the Evan really been there, blah, blah, blah. But why appease them when you work for them, you work for the tax payer? Do we not, you know, we want the best the best protection possible? Why not say I mean, they're the ones that are wrong here. They're the ones because they hate Trump so much that they said that we're going to reject a grant that we've accepted every year since two thousand six so why do we have to suffer? Why can't you call them out and say you guys voted to make our community a lot less safe? And a lot more dangerous. They have voted to make our community. Let's say in less danger. And why give in jocular said I've made is bit ice. Did not meet to be there. There was a convenience. And we talked to is representatives. And it was a mutual decision that there just wasn't enough activity to keep them. They're they're they're very infrequently. So that we could go back without your pricing public safety. Go back to the prior practice. I can reinstate jail anytime that I choose to. But if this would help us get millions and millions of dollars of funding to help me keep us safe. If this could push us over the finish line. It seemed to be an acceptable thing to do. I knew it was going to cause controversy Garrett. I'm not stupid. I knew this was going to be controversial. But they're going to be looking at the grad of more about two million dollars here in the next couple of months, and it's my sincere hope that they're proved that they don't now have you heard anything back in the jail minute. Have you have you heard anything back from Bronson invalid as on this? I mean, you put this out on. Tuesday should have given you an answer pretty much right away. Right. Well, the grant has not been presented to them. Yeah. Gary still with the federal government. You just say, hey, look, if I take ice out you guys good with a proven it for next year. The same exact thing you've approved every single year. There have been some discussions to that effect. We'll see what happens. So they haven't any give me a yes. Or no yet. You have. Elliot's who already said not going to happen. Well, I don't expect ever to turn that vote that bolts never gonna turn Richard is never going to change his mind, but I do need three boats on the board, and I can't stress enough that this is several million dollars coming next year. And then the federal government is funding stone guard at a much higher rate in subsequent years Pima county needs that money, they desperately need that money and infrequent occurrence of ice being in jail me being the only sheriff in the state that had ice in the jail. This seems like a compromise. If if the compromise works Pima county benefits because we get millions of dollars. If it doesn't work but ice back in jail. We'll back the way we were if ice assuming icy wants to come back is there a way I I I'm just short on time. Can I get your back at eight ten and then we get Allie Miller two more questions for you is that okay? It'd be happy to know. I'm going up to Phoenix. I gotta meeting up there. And then I'm going to be with the governor's to meet the president. Okay. Well, real quick. Is there a way that you can just accept the funds without the approval of the board of supervisors? I'm working on a couple of solutions legislative solution. And then working with the federal government. Also, see if there's a way that they can direct clutch directly to sheriffs who moved to politics for miss the sheriff should be making the decision about whether or not these sponsor public safety efficacy or not it shouldn't be a political decision. Yes. And remember a supervisor Christie's sported by supervisor Miller actually holds the resolution to the board that said exactly that. And the Gord rejected it because they wanted to keep politics in this politics shouldn't be in this year this about public. I know, and that's why I think millions of dollars to to keep us safe. You're playing politics to try to make that happen instead of just fighting for what's right? I mean, Trump fought for everything for every time. It's like people are going to think, and I think that you're not doing enough to stand up for yourself. You know, you're not doing enough to stand up for the people here in Pima county. You're absolutely wrong on nine Garrett. Gavin is that was a joint decision between us is that they're just was not an activity to keep him there. So then why not keep him out? So then say, all right. You guys are done for why bring him back in in the future. Well, it did be their decision to be a mutual decision. Whether they want to come back, right? Whether they believe there's enough activity that makes it sensible. It was a convenience matter for is. And I know that they'd like the convenience of being directly there rather than have to come to the jail. They liked being there. But for sake of trying to get this grant pushed through the finish line. This is a reasonable compromise. It doesn't jeopardize public safety and the real jeopardy to public safety. Crystal clear on this is not getting that sold guard funny and has the system is set up right now, I need three boats ordered to get stone garden funding. And absent those revotes this county is let's say, yes. And that is my primary focus is to keep his county safe to keep the federal funds coming so that I can deploy resources obtain equipment that otherwise could not get do you. Final thing. Do you think that you've done enough to make it clear to the public to really show? How dangerous the three supervisors have made this community. Do you think you could do more? I think I've spoken out. I've been to community groups I've been all over the place on this. I've been on every radio program that'll help me on from NPR to Arizona public media all over the place. I don't lead they care. I believe they're listening to a very very small number of people activists that have gotten three boats on our board and are jeopardizing public speaking or county, and until we push that forward. I can't get them to change their minds. Well, then that's what you're giving in. I mean, you're you're the one that's giving in they haven't given an inch. And they're not gonna give an inch. Well, we'll see we're gonna produce a grant about two million dollars. If they vote three votes we're back in business, but it'll be up to them. Whether they want to continue this political nonsense around the public safety grants or not that's in their court. I have done everything I can do to make make this happen. And if they don't make it happen. Then we we suffer in Pima county. And it's at the hands of the board of supervisors not the hands of the sheriff because I've made clear this money is fundamentally important public safety in our county. They are voting down. Okay. All right sheriff. Thank you for the time in as this continues. Probably get your on very soon. I appreciate it. Thank you very much. Okay. Jeff neighbor, you're on Canada. In.
