Fresh update on "garcia" discussed on KOGO Weekend News Edition

"What we see online. Now, to combat this growing challenge a global alliance is stepping up to provide technical solutions that aim to increase trust and transparency online. So joining us on the coco new year's live line, Andy Parsons, senior director of Adobe's content authenticity initiative. That's a lot of a mouthful right there. Andy, thanks for joining us. Thank you for having me. And if it helps, you can say CAI, which may not be any easier to say. CAI. Well, no, I'm going to get you mixed up with the CIA and then we're all going we're all going to hell in a handbasket. Explain what the content authenticity initiative is. Sure. So Adobe created the content authenticity initiative in 2019 in partnership with The New York Times and Twitter. It's since grown to an alliance of over 750 members ranging from camera manufacturers to technology companies, Nikon, Microsoft, media outlets and purveyors like The Associated Press and Reuters, the BBC. And the idea is to restore a level of trust and transparency online for consumers consuming news, creative products, and things like that by imbuing content with what we call provenance. And the idea is to show ground truth about how content was made, who may have made it, and how it may have been altered before it gets to your social media platform, for example. So why is it so important in this day and age and time to know if content is trustworthy? Well, I think we've all seen probably on a daily basis, whether it's on social media platforms or in text messaging chats and things. Information that may not be fully trustworthy. So misinformation, we refer to as things that may be accidentally shared. If it's someone's worldview or they want to provide news to their friends and relatives, disinformation being the malicious intent to deceive people by purveying and distributing bad information. So it's important to understand what you're looking at at a ground truth level. And we know that deepfake detection detecting instances where somebody may have been made in video or audio or images to say or do something they never did or said. These things are on the rise. We see examples in the Ukraine right now with president balinsky and Vladimir Putin being faked into various situations. But it's also important to realize these tools, they're very same tools can be used for amazing creative purposes. Good example is the recent Kendrick Lamar music video where he was deep faked and morphed into various celebrities to portray different points of view. And we need to understand what things are, how they were made in order to make sense of it all. And the authenticity initiative intends to put that into the hands of consumers. So judgments can be made by them. So when you're looking at a video or even just a piece of information, I'm trying to think of a recent example. There was the story about Paul Pelosi and somehow making rounds on the Internet. All charges have been dropped against Paul Pelosi. And then if you looked at the actual news story, it was like, they're not doing charges yet. He's being, you know, there's a court case coming up on such and such date. So it wasn't true that the charges were dropped. But how do these things get so viral? Do people just not read at all or pay attention? I think that's part of it, but I also think it's getting harder and harder to discern what's true and trustworthy. We know from many, many studies that people online tend to share things that fit their worldview. News doesn't tend to change people's point of view, it tends to enhance existing points of view. And therefore, it's important, it's important that the things that we see can be fact checked, frankly, and that there be consumer friendly, simple tools to do that fact checking. So an example you gave if there were text or an image, you'd be able to mount over a tap on the media itself. And see some extra information about who delivered it, for example, if something purports to come from a BBC, you want to know that it actually came from a BBC. And the technology we're putting out there that we hope will be widely adopted in the next couple of years. It does exactly that. So you can verify where it came from, who made it, and most importantly, how it may have been manipulated or changed along the way. And if media lacks this kind of transparency information, you might look at it with an extra IF skepticism as you do your diligence. All right, Andy Parsons senior director of Adobe's CAI. There you go. Andy, thank you for joining us this morning. Thank you so much for your time. Ted Garcia, coco news

Mayra Flores' Historic Flipping of a Democratic Seat in South Texas

"Huge development out of South Texas Myra Flores a Republican running against this guy, Danny Garcia, a Democrat for an open sea, the seat vacated by philemon vela, who got an appointment in the Biden administration. This has been a democratic seat for a hundred years. And Myra Flores needed not just a win. She had to get to 50% to avoid a runoff and she did. So she has flipped the seat. This narrows further the Pelosi margin in the house, which is already very tiny. And so, and it signals a larger trend that's going on in South Texas. Now, this is actually where you grew up. This is my home turf. This is my dream come true. And so, you know, when we interviewed Myra a few months ago, and I was, you know, I helped with the interview, I was one of the I talked to her as well. And I said, listen, this is my dream come true to make to make the valley red. I mean, I just, you know, always dreamed of that. Even when I was 14 years old, I met Ronald Reagan in harlington. That was something that, you know, hey, we have to flip this, this county red. And she did. Now, we have to help her because it's going to get a little dicey come November. Because they have done a redistricting in the valley. And so her seat is now redistricted in a way that actually gives a Democrat a 17 point lead. So we have to, you know, hey, all my Friends from Harlem and high school go vote for

A Voter's Guide for California Republicans

"I would like you to please vote for, first of all, every Republican running for Congress. It's very unlikely we'll pick up any seats, but I sure would like young Kim and Michelle Steele and Mike Garcia and David valadao and of course Kevin McCarthy is going to win. He's got a pretty secure district. But they really took a cleaver, the alleged independent redistricting committee like everything else in California is completely bonkers. And so they're trying to screw an outline the other good ones after the dust settles. There's no tell them what happened in these primaries. But do remember young kin and Michelle steel and Orange County, Mike Garcia, Dave valadao in Ventura and the central valley, Kevin McCarthy, of course. But here's the key deal. You got to vote for lawn heat Chen for controller. You got to vote for Nathan hochman for attorney general. These are two serious people, and those are the two jobs. You're not going to meet Gavin Newsom. There's no one running. I don't know who's going to be the nominee against Gavin Newsom, but you can't beat that much money.

Weekend Mass Shootings Dominate News Coverage

"Killer in laguna Woods, you may not know about. Yesterday afternoon, a 60 year old Asian man, that's the only description I have from the Los Angeles Times, stood up in a luncheon honoring a former pastor at a Taiwanese Christian church in laguna Woods, which is not far from my old home in Orange County. They were welcoming back for a luncheon, Jerry Chen, excuse me, I want to get that Jerry Chandler's the fellow gave the quote the former pastor's name is here somewhere I can't find it, but Tom Kramer, who is the head of the presbytery of Los ranchos. Again, I used to be a member of this Presbyterian. Kramer did not know if the pastor was harmed in the shooting, a pastor clobbered the gunman as he tried to reload with a chair and a bunch of the so called older victims. They were all in their 60s. Those not shot tackle them in hog tied in, but it's a 60 year old Asian man is the killer there. In Harris county, Texas, the more traditional weekend shooting, two young men shooting at each other, wounding three and killing two at a Harris county flea market. At 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. So guns are everywhere, The Wall Street Journal, however, wrote about the particular evil of the buffalo shooting. There is a culture of white supremacy in the United States and people need to understand not large, but it definitely evil and it's dangerous because it attracts the unbalance like this 18 year old this was pure evil said Erie county sheriff Garcia in an app summary of the mass murder at a cyber market in Buffalo writes The Wall Street Journal. That appears to be racially motivated. The alleged shooter 18 year old Peyton gendron, the last time you'll hear his name on my show, is another young man possessed by inexplicable hatred.

"Stephane boring. Anything that happens to. Edison is probably going to be on the bench and just to round things out speaking of silverware the f. b. the german cup final. Dfb polka final is next thursday may thirteenth. And it's going to be between rb. Leipzig and borussia dortmund. These are the teams in two and five in the bundesliga but dortmund is climbing. And they're most likely going to end in the top four barring anything crazy. So the winner of this game is guaranteed to go into the next year's europa league however both of these teams are more than likely going to be in the champions league. So that's not really going to do anything. So this is just going to be for the german cup trophy again. It's leipzig in but the significance of this game is that tyler adams is an american international is probably gonna play for rb leipzig and geo raina. Who's also in american. International is more than likely. Going to play for bruce dortmund so in american again is going to lift silverware in this competition. So that's all. I got for you guys this week on this edition of added time with ryan garcia hopefully next week. We'll have some exciting events to talk about the come out and issue a statement. Maybe manchester united as a club issues. A statement and. We'll get some results on some of these games including manchester city and chelsea this saturday so again. Thanks for listening. "Who flew across the country or they just had one stationed in the united states in florida Tampa specifically and I forget his first name. But one of the glazers was walking with like takeout food trying to get to his expensive car and the reporter just keeps asking him questions regarding the protests regarding united and he stays silent the entire time and the most powerful one was she asked them or the supporters just customers to you and he gets in his car starts. It puts a seatbelt on and just drives off. And it doesn't say anything and i think that's a really accurate representation of what the glazers believe in and who they are. They don't believe in anything other than money and they're just gonna drive away. If anybody ridicules you know. So i bet they'll eventually they're sell the club or they're gonna try to invest a bunch of money this summer. Some players to try to compete for the premier league next season either way though manchester united fans and supporters just despise. The glazers. Want them out. And they're gonna keep doing it. They're gonna keep protesting outside the stadium until something something happens at least until the glazers come out and say something if they ever do so while all this craziness has been happening. The premier league is shaping up like normal like we thought it would however a huge game is this. Saturday chelsea sits in fourth place. Three points above west ham west ham as a huge game against everton and if they be everton equal the points on chelsea but chelsea plays manchester city. This saturday so manchester city beat chelsea a few months ago. Three goals to one in league play the two teams meet again in the fa cup semi-final only just went over that chelsea winds one golden nothing. These two teams play again on saturday with chelsea needing a win to hopefully stay in the top four and they could potentially drop out into the number five slot if they lose this game so they have to win..

"Actually playing these games so leeds. United is playing liverpool who was announced to be in the super league. Leeds players. Come out with shirts that say football's for the fans just to stick it to him a little bit and not only this but following the game liverpool midfielder james milner came out and said that he did not agree with the proposal either and again florentino. Perez comes out that night and says the super league is not for the rich but it's to save football. If this continues football will disappear by twenty twenty four we would already be dead. This is the only way to save everyone big small and medium clubs and he is just so he's just pulling words out of his behind. You know literally. There's nothing wrong with the format and right now. Small and medium-sized clubs can compete for those championships. In theory than they do there's leicester city is gonna be in a champions league slot this year for the premier league. They're sitting in third place basically fourteen operas saying yeah arsenal spurs and liverpool her. All behind lester. So we want to get lester. Get all these teams. That are good like less. Get them the heck out of here. And let's get these these other good clubs that you know that we can profit off of their marketing and all that kind of junk so within twenty four hours. The league is nnounced. All these clubs ran. There's a ton of outrage by everybody and the next morning it's announced that chelsea in manchester city are going to be leaving and then manchester city coach pep guardiola literally one of the most renowned coaches in the world comes out and says it is not a sport where success is already guaranteed or does not a sport when it doesn't matter when you lose chelsea was supposed to play later that day against brenton. Hove album and they did. And there was swarms and swarms. Thousands of chelsea fans are outside the stadium protesting and they wouldn't even let the bus through with the players in it. The first domino basically fell after that. It's that ed woodward deke executive for manchester united the guy that manchester united fans have wanted out for years because he's been ruining their club and putting them in more debt. Edward announced that he had tendered his resignation and would leave the club at the end of the season man city then made it official and they're pulling out as did chelsea and later that night. Manchester united liverpool spurs and arsenal. The four remaining. Epl clubs all released statements confirming that they would not take part and by that night basically. The writing was already on the wall. All the other clubs started announcing their withdrawal and basically the super league was dead in forty eight hours so the question remains where we now basically all the chairman that i mentioned earlier. Agnelli the glazers henry. Even manchester city's chief executive forensic oriana. Everybody comes out and issue apologies. You know they're only apologizing because everybody was mad at them they really because it went this far. You know that these guys do not care and none of them have resigned. None of them have stepped down other than woodward but he wasn't even the owner or anything like that. So glazer's john henry Crunchies agnelli all. These people are still in charge and the premier league is basically called on them to resign on all of them..

"Super a little background. On darrell decay and barnsley. Barnsley is a team playing in the sky bet championship championship is the english second tier. It's ripe below the premier league every year in the premier league the bottom three teams in the relegation zone get dropped into the championship and every year. The top two teams in the championship are automatically promoted to the premier league and then teams in the championship. Three four five and six duke. It out in playoffs semifinals and a final and the stakes are crazy. It's essentially like the difference between playing in the championship. Versus the premier league is like an automatic some of cash. that's an excess of one hundred million pounds which is just crazy so these these clubs are getting the tv rights contracts and then they can sign more players in their transfer budget goes up and they can sell players. Get more money you know. Change out some of those players that maybe were suited to the championship. But aren't good enough to be able to handle some of the teams in the premier league in level of competition. Daryl que daryl decay. Us men's international sensation. Right now Is twenty years old again. He's a center forward and striker So he he was loaned from orlando city to barnsley in february of this year. Twenty twenty one. He is played in fourteen games and he has eight goals. And that's just crazy He's played in seventy five percent of the possible minutes And he's scorn a of goals. Eight goals for them in fourteen appearances and barnsley is currently sitting in that championship. Playoff spot In the league and so if they if the league were to end today they would be in the playoffs and he would get a chance to help barnsley perhaps get into the premier league Of course that's the hard way there aren't good enough to be in the top one or two slots automatically be there. But it's really cool for barnsley. you know. there are middle of the table. And they got daryl decay and he is single handedly pushed them up into this playoff spot. So it's it's just really fun to watch. He was also recently called up to the international break by the us. Men's national team He i believe he was substituted on in one of the games and in the other game he came on for like two or three minutes as a sub some. He hasn't really played for the us men's national team but he is a very very exciting young talent and he's huge. He's got the body of lukaku plays for belgium. He's got the body of diego cost You know he's one of the biggest bodied strikers that there are right now and coming up in world football so it's just really exciting to watch and with that background. on darrell. decay of an toss it over to our special guest today. My really good friend. Quinton puzzled guys. Today we're featuring darryl decay. Who's the new kid on the block for the us. Men's national teams only had two caps so far he was just loaned from orlando in the mls to the english championship which is the second tier but he only played a season at orlando city. It was the covid season which is shortened season us just drafted by them fifth overall through a generation adidas contract which allows a us development player to get drafted a year early before going into professional play. And it's supposed to further develop the united states talent pool. He played two seasons with the cavaliers at virginia is first season. He got five goals one assist on thirteen games but in the second season he really blew up. He had twenty three games. Played with ten goals and eight assists. Getting in twenty eight points led his team so the fifth overall is pretty strong is a good player and he played for orlando for seventeen games and started fifteen. The loan to barnsley. Isn't it's only a temporary thing. So barnsley can use him this season. They really have really been blowing up because they offered a buyout of the buyout is twenty million. His there's been talks that he's gotten offers orlando city has declined from a big six per merely keen. The rumors are that it's chelsea but they declined the ten million dollars because the buyout for his loan. Currently barnsley is twenty million dollars. So that's not gonna get bought out either so orlando declining. The ten million dollars looks like they're trying to hold onto him so if he plays the rest of the season at barnsley he would still be able to return for the main part of. Mls's only really miss like the beginning. He had a choice. He could have gone for the nigerian national team. Buddy chosen the us men's national team. I like this kid. He's going to be great for us going forward and that is going to do it for today's episode special. Shout out to quin again for coming on today's show and next time we're going to be doing a deep dive on champions league. Fa cup semifinals and the league cup. Final thanks for listening guys and see next.

"Year the late start and fixture congestion. That would come from this. You know So not only are our teams in the primarily in the primarily competition but they might also be european competition whether that's the euro per the champions league. If you're at the top of the table you have the fa cup. If you're in any english professional soccer you play in the fa cup and you play in the premier league league cup the karabakh cup so there are just so many competitions. These players are competing in. They're literally playing every three days. Or every four days depending on whether or not they get a extra day of break and then they also. The english fa scrapped the winter. Break after christmas and boxing day so Every year around christmas and boxing day. These teams will play literally games every three or four days. Just like we're seeing every week with this schedule for this year season but it's never liked this. It's only around that christmas period where teams have a flurry of games that they have to get through And then right. After that there's an international break and players will have some time to heal up and all of that was scrapped So basically the fa had squeezed five-match weeks into the schedule with this month late. Start up and the winter break being scrapped. Basically what we're seeing is every tuesday through thursday this year. There's fa cup efl cup. Europa league and champions league games in the middle of the week every single day and then there's the actual premier league games and other you know if they're in other leagues around the world. Those league games are on saturday through monday. So teams in england again or playing every three days and enduring the only thing that really benefited the teams was that rules were changed to allow to five substitute players in any game versus the three that are normally available And then the rule has already been changed back so you know it helped everybody out for a little bit but now that we're out of we're kind of out of the woods we're seeing people getting vaccinated receive some fans back in the stadium. You know things are getting back to normal. So that's basically where we're at for the start of this season now that we've discussed covid nineteen and its implications on the twenty twenty twenty twenty one season. We're gonna talk about the us men's national team now that we've discussed covid nineteen and its implications on the twenty twenty twenty twenty one season. We're gonna talk about the us men's national team usa. Men's national team has been a laughing stock for the last several years the. Us men's national team failed to qualify for the twenty eighteen fifa world cup. That was in russia. I just stayed even like thinking about it. Really what it was was..

And although you're a premier league and us men's national team oriented podcast. We're gonna need to give you some insight as to what was going on in the other leagues europe. So kicking things off february twenty sixth twenty twenty dollars right after the turn of the new year you know and so at that time. What happens is the premier league specifically. They play through christmas and boxing day that they celebrate in the uk and then they get a couple of weeks off and then we go into what's called the international break players are leaving their clubs. They're going to go back to their international countries or they're going to go to a different country and meet with their international teams. And maybe they're going to play some friendlies or they're just gonna have training sessions together. You know and so. That's what's happening. In january we get to february and at this time cove it is really starting to have an impact in all over the world really but specifically in europe february twenty. Six twenty twenty is the first thing that happened in the major kovic time line in european football. That was inter-milan. Taking on ludo gore syria matchup and that was the first european match played behind closed doors due to covid. Nineteen usually when matches are played behind closed doors. It's due to you know usually political turmoil that's occurring in the city that the venues held that maybe there's some sort of protest or something outside the grounds so they need to just secure everybody safety but this was just because covid nineteen you know. No one wants to be held accountable for fans testing positive. So this was a precaution. The matches played behind closed doors. It's the first one in europe that does so march ninth twenty twenty a couple of weeks later uefa announces all europa league matches will be played behind closed doors and this is the same day that syria announces italian -ly announces that they are going to be suspending all play indefinitely de very next day we see the first huge implications go down in the premier league. Manchester city is taken on arsenal or was supposed to but the match up postponed indefinitely. First thing in the morning news later out that arsenal snow manager miquel are two former manchester city assistant manager tested positive for covid nineteen before the game and not only. Is that game going to be postponed indefinitely. But so will their next fixture arsenal versus brighton. And hove albion two days later. The real madrid basketball team is dealing with covid nineteen and it comes out that they have had high contact with real madrid football team soon. Now there's just a huge yeah craziness going on down there. In madrid in spain and so the spanish league laliga announces their suspension. Two days after the news of mikhail artem.

"Nosso talk with them. They worked out a cooperative arrangement. Where the head trainer. But henry garcia is on board as the number two. And i think that's brought even more out of ryan garcia. Where do you do again. You've seen a lot of guys like how do you view garcia's talent. I think it's what's really interesting about. Ryan garcia is that he's involved in a lot of things. I mean like you mentioned the social media you mentioned like some of the are at least some of the tmz episodes that he's been involved in You know the the baby mama drama that he's involved in and all of that we say like oh us lance hasn't had baby mama drama happens. Well we sports writers. Maybe we have know Yes you know. I think the the thing is is that he walks is high wire of everything. Going on in a lot of us are a lot of the outsiders who are look at ryan garcia's are saying like. Oh he's going to be distracted by any one of these things but the truth is is that i think ryan garcia when he's in the gym. He's paying attention the boxing when he's in the presence of eddie ray now so he soaking up everything that he can possibly hear from this man. Same thing when he's rubbing shoulders with the stablemate canelo alvarez. They've built up a great friendship. That certainly ryan has capitalizing upon and listen to To become a better fighter. And you're absolutely right. I can remember. Chris being out here in southern california there were some i would say appears of ryan garcia who mentioned those flaws in his game. I can think of a conversation i had with. Daniel franko franco out here in his father. Al who trains them and they would say like. I don't think ryan's gonna make it. But like you said he'd looked he'd look. You took an honest assessment of where he was. He joined forces with eddie ray now so to make himself a better fighter and again i see with What this fight against campbell. He is a. He is aware of what he needs to do to win. This fight and i think you will see a completely prepared ryan garcia for this stiffest a test of his career. Yeah one thing. I'm eager to learn about garcia's what happens. After the first round like he's he's four no in his four fights with eddie renault so but the last two. The two toughest tests have ended after less than one round of peace. So i'll look luke. Campbell may get stopped. I'd be shocked if you've got stopped in the first round..

C. H. I. Santa Fe of course down the railyard wonderful architectural book into the to the railyard and CCO but nineteen fifty old Pecos trail below the children's museum in it you guys gonna partner on this project called beyond the borders yeah it's a great project and I I like I get so excited about it I don't even let you take your breaks Richard but I think I think it's great that we were talking about is you know the programming around it is so wonderful so if you go to S. "Like I can't remember who said it there's black theologian. Who talked about the diseased? What did he say? The Disease Social Imagination of America and basically what what he said like the reason like we can't imagine anything it's like it's also supported by psychology. The reason we can't imagine anything better for ourselves right now is because we're we're still in the middle of our trauma like an until like we start doing the work of forgiving ourselves of what we think we did like. We'll never he'll let me tell you. What though when you are willing like unwillingness is everything? It's just like your intent like this is another course in miracles thing is basically. Your intention doesn't mean anything. Your willingness is everything if you are willing to start rifling through your baggage few are willing to say I. I WanNa let this go like it's it's almost just like once you're willing to do something you it's like magic happens it's like Oh my God. I'm doing the thing I thought I could never do because I was willing. I don't and other things that he says. No No. It definitely definitely resumes and I mean. That's that's sort of something that I that's a word I always come back to. You is resonate. He no like what you're saying hits me and my get vibrates. You know like there's truth then that there is there's something about being open open to the change and being ready to put that for step forward and I mean it's not as if that is a trivial thing you know like that that takes time to get there for a lot of people and Mike and that and I think that's. It's it's a dual thing it's just like you're already there and this is your first step. It's that weird. It's a weird sort of paradox. Thing I think Pete Holmes was saying it on a couple of different PODCASTS. He's just like I wish people could just see that they're already pretty home. You know and I keep coming back to that thing of does it all just say come home like it's it's like it takes time to learn that your body is a home and that your body can be a home for you and that it's not just a flesh prison. I mean it's it's not a flush prison like it's not a prison like it's such. It's so beautiful and and that is something that I'm willing to to talk about for forever right and I've been blessed blessed with a sunny disposition as well as Wellbutrin Zoloft and I have no problem being everyone's cheerleader rate. Great I think that role suits very well and Mike and I always know your genuine whenever you post something whenever you put something up. That is an encouragement to someone. I I know that because I know you and I know we already talked about intention and how. It's not everything but I know that the intent behind what you're doing is is to encourage people in that is that's a wonderful thing and I'm glad you're out there doing the things that you're doing. I'm not crying you're crying thank you I received. That's very kind. Thank you. You're welcome and I'm I'm so glad that you on these. Last few years have had been so Productive for you in the very good sense of that word and that like the catalyst almost health scape of this You know like not just capitalist sort of you've done on these things in your years have been productive. It's that you've aw you produced again using that language of fruits like you've found something and moved from something bad something better better to something could. Yeah and I think that's really the the the crux of it is like. I've been reading star Hawks On the spiral dance and in it they talk about the birth of the world from From like an old religion perspective or the witch tradition and she I would say that the universe was not created but it was born. And so from that. It's like this idea. I keep thinking about that. Like how everything that it comes forth from within us. It's something that is not necessarily created but it's it's born of us and so it's almost I can see. It's it's the same thing it's just like you know rather than producing for like it's like we grew this. You know we've grown. We grew this thing together. And it's one of those things just like any any life is is tended by many farmers right and so it's like everyone's had a hand and for good or for ill you know people are always coming by our vines and dressing them however they want to use that language and such a fucking Christian God damn but that's the thing is like I am. I believe you when you say that because I see it as as well and I can't tell you how good it feels to say that like Everything that it's one of those things like I grew up. Hearing that gay people bull leg got AIDS and died and while that is that like you know the AIDS epidemic is a huge part of our collective story that is not not the end of the story and that is not the only story and like I look at my life now. I couldn't I wrote a book and I'm getting a masters and you know. Yeah sure I've got like a shit dad but like who doesn't you know money's not even real and plus like when the Earth Burns up nine years like we're all we're GONNA get student loans forgiven so make a boy. Yeah that got dark real quick. Oh Man I am nothing again that sunny disposition I have just a blessing. God well yeah I mean absolutely just recognize nuys where you've come from and where you are now and take take pride and and that and that's that's wonderful I think you I think you should. I'm really glad that we were able to talk a little bit about your fourth your forthcoming book. And how how you've changed over these past couple of years there's an just catch up on the air. It's been I value and I'm really excited to see this next chapter for you. And where can people. We'll find you online. Where can they find your book all those dates? Just plug it all right. It was so lovely on. That's awesome. That's great and I mean it's a bad thing was it wasn't even fucking warm. I went to California. I need to be warm and it was cold. So fuck you. La just can't and my podcast. A tiny revolution is going to be back. Jack January twenty twenty As we jump into the first question I want to explore which is what is masculinity. And we'RE GONNA be talking about it from like twenty wanting different perspectives. That'll be very odd. My Gosh I'm really really not just masculine name. But also like what what is queer masculine and also like what is you know in a world where we know what toxic masculinity looks like and we can pointed out what where are the examples of healthy healthy good masculinity coming from and I think explain that from my own perspective as a gender queer person is going to be really fun talking with Trans man talking with Trans Women talking with women talking with everyone so those interviews are happening right now. And I'm going to edit it together a little bit more like less of an interview style and more like a serial doc docu style. I'm excited for never tried this before. "Another episode of thanks pod Nate on this episode you talked with Kevin Garcia career I did talk with Kevin Garcia about well about all sorts of different things primarily to share Kevin Story to give Kevin a space to talk about the church and who Kevin is and but primarily we talked with Kevin for this new series that we have going on right so we have once again incidentally run into a series of calm -tations that we've had that seem to all be in line with each other and these this series is going to center on the Church doctrine ambiguity yes so in other words like when churches aren't clear about their policies in this case specifically toward LGBTQ inclusion right and I think that that ultimately is is what the next couple episodes will lead into different perspectives coming from different voices on LGBTQ folks and their positions in the church in whether churches are being explicit about what it does positions are that are available to and the big question is like What does what does it mean to not be explicit in your policies What does it mean both to the congregation to the people who are attending and to the ministers when the church is not explicit in this dance on inclusion is it good bad as hurt despoilers probably hurts that's why we we brought Kevin on the show because Kevin has some personal experience with being a part of a church that wasn't clear on Lgbtq inclusion and feeling the repercussions of that all right we'll we'll I'm ready so let's take us away nate six okay cool so you start with just like yeah who's Kennedy is who are you right now and then how grow up how Bella Kevin Garcia who is that is a great question who am I right now well right now I think that I I self identify as a spiritual director at intuitive life coach a creative a public he'll lojane is something that I allowed myself to start calling myself recently and a mystic and somebody who an entrepreneur camp junkie adventure I just feel like it's really refreshing to come across people like Kevin particularly in the Progressive Christian world because Kevin is someone that talks has if they're a normal human that enjoys life but also thinks hard and earnestly about things and often times I feel like at least experiences with Progressive Christian folks is in a university context where people are speaking really heavy and verbose and you have to have a certain vocabulary to to have any sort of input in conversation yeah I totally get that and that's what makes Kevin so special Kevin has this uncanny ability to take these lofty theological concepts and present them in a way that is approachable but the phrase enjoying life Kevin certainly would not use that phrase to describe how they grew up when I a turned fourteen realized I was attracted to boys was horrified because Christians don't struggle with that kind of stuff I was Exodus International for the following twelve years which was the largest ex gay ministry in the world An effective learned how to hate myself in suppressing sexual orientation hoping for God's change however that's not a thing so at the end of that unlike twenty four years old I have become it's not gone through like crazy college years I have done I've you know double down on my fundamentalism at this point become a missionary for God's so in order to live out what Kevin had been told is this authentic version of Christianity Kevin starts working with this mission organization but that doesn't solve anything I came home from the mission field thought that I was me like I'm like okay apparently because I'd I must not want the healing bad enough I'm not want the things of God bad enough I must be the problem and the emotional physical and mental toil of overcoming antle ISM is real and sometimes it feels impossible and in the midst of this turmoil Kevin Attempt suicide twice I woke up after the second time and I was like well still here maybe it's for a reason and I figured okay I either need to a get down with celibacy because like that's what I gotta do or I gotTa figure this shit because I can't keep living like this because I was of so sad I was I hated my life I'm working for this missions organization that I quit like because that makes it was always trust what the Holy Spirit is saying to you and as I trust him with the Holy Spirit was saying to me kept getting this this word or this here at this conservative pentecostal organization it was there where Kevin had this profound moment when they realize is that maybe their humanity isn't at odds with God that their sexuality isn't at odds with God maybe Kevin didn't have to fundamentally change themselves in order to be the person that God created.
