A Day Laborer Who Dreamed Of Returning Home To Mexico Dies Of COVID-19
"Have the story of a man who lived in the margins struggling to make ends meet during the pandemic. There's a Home Depot parking lot west of downtown Los Angeles. Day laborers line up on the corner waiting for construction jobs. Until recently, there was a man who always sat under a small tree on the sidewalk. His name was pulling over Ramos. This was kind of his spot leading in the shade for jobs. Ramos isn't here anymore. The last time anyone here saw him he was sitting under that tree with his head down. Something was wrong with him. S o. He was sitting there waiting for a job, but he was like, have pain in my chest, and she wasn't able to breathe. Jorge Nicholas works at the Central American Resource Center of L. A. He's the organizer at that day Labor Center and he knew Ramos. So one of the workers here took him to the to the ER. And after nine way never felt him in Polina Ramos is one of more than 290,000 people who have died from Cove in 19 in the United States. He was 53 years old. He was a day laborer. Desperate turn a paycheck in the middle of this pandemic. NPR's Danny. Hey, Jack spoke to some of the workers who remember their friend. Rufer named Fernando Sanchez waits for jobs along the busy corner this morning, he and Paulina Ramos used to wait out here together, reminiscing about their lives in Mexico. Of it. Uh, almost e saw him a few days before he went to the hospital. Sanchez says he stares at the ground as he talks about his friend. Yeah, more more than the bedroom. He looked really thin. He lost a lot of weight, he says, Hey, looked sad E think When someone thinks they're going to die, they know it. They could just feel it being soft. Yellow President Erica Sanchez is standing near a makeshift memorial for Ramos. Workers set up a small table with flowers and prayer candles that could be seen from the street. The flowers are wilted now. Jorge Nicholas, the organizer of the day Labor Center, says workers here don't normally share their feelings. But their friend's death has changed that they can't even believe it because they don't even think with he's passed away way know about design. Behind the flowers. There is a black and white picture. It's Ramos in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines and tubes as he battled Cove in 19, But the color photo the workers pinned above the memorial. Reminds them of the Paulino Ramos. They all knew a quiet man with graying black hair mustache and the little smile. Ramos was alone here in the U. S. It had been years since you've seen his family back in Mexico, his wife and three kids and grandkids he'd never met. He was, um I love your father, a loving husband and he always trying to provide for his family. That's the reason he came here to be able to provide a better opportunity for his kids. Nicholas says Ramos worked demolition shops across L A for over a decade around hazardous materials like this pestis and mold in concrete dust that makes workers like llamas more vulnerable to complications from covert 19. Forget this was all about some common chemicals. There are strong chemicals in the old buildings we work in, says Jesus Mon. Hey, He's one of the older workers waiting on the corner here. He's been a painter since the eighties, which hand pick a Jameson Don't be. A lot of workers here have damaged their lungs, he says, including me. Move. Bella Heroes Depending on all these stories are a reality for day laborers. Most employers don't provide protective equipment. They don't provide health insurance. Either day. Laborers don't get sick pay, and many workers like Ramos are undocumented. Mario Gara is a welder from El Salvador. He's been apart from his family, too. And as he stands in this parking lot He wonders if he'll suffer the same fate. Is Ramos. Nobody flat over a woman? The Sally port? Remember guns everywhere. E don't know if I'll ever go home to El Salvador or if I'll die here, he says. I want to see my mom and my daughter, but that's life life already hard made even harder. Since the pandemic shutdowns in March, work in this parking lot has dried up, and Ramos could no longer pay his rent. He did find a little help. He received a $300 grant from the Central American Resource Center of L. A and the National Day laborer organizing network. Ramos. It was a lifeline. He recorded this video to think the donors Mayama. Polly. No, this is Ramos is voice mail Yesterday E got money for food and rent, he says. I'm grateful. I got help, so at least I could eat. I'll try to make it last. Well, God cinema. Jorge Nicholas, the organizer of the day Labor Center, says he can still hear Ramos is deep voice. They talked a lot about family, Ramos dreamed of returning home. So we could finally meet his grandkids. You used to get very nostalgic when he talked about coming back to Mexico to his family. You know something right? Because I had two little ones. So he used to tell me like, spend time with your little ones. You know as much as you can. I'm sorry. I think that your kids, you spend time with your kids. Last week. Paulino Ramos is remains were sent back to his family in Mexico.

"Good. So, it was like seeing the League normal people like that's pretty good. But like kids on Tiktok, it's like, Yeah No. That's good at all. Sometimes I look at other Zuma's on like you guys just like this sounds like a joke. Just. Like a joke do because it's hard to tell with Zubaydah is they will like things just for the irony of it like. Bobby Brown's existence at this point is because kids I you guys know about this right that they made this Joke that she hates gay people and she doesn't, and so Zuma's will make take talks about how Millie Bobby Brown hates gay people and they're like. So funny and people are like you are going to ruin this girl's career like for a generation of people that are so like you know try to be woke and like allies they literally yet they're like singlehandedly starting. Yeah, it's fucked. Wow. Wow messed up. I did see those rumors I had no. It's not true. They are literally ironically I'm like. Oh. My Gosh is there. Yeah. No it's. Bad. Well Caroline. Yeah. What's the gays thing you did this week? Oh, thanks for asking. Might cancel out itself between the gayness and the not gayness of what I did. But last episode I teased that I was in the market for a Honda fit. which is the new Subaru unless Subaru wants to sponsor US then I take it back but for now. The Honda fit is new. Subaru got a lot of listeners saying, Hey, I had a Honda Fit I. didn't realize it was gay. Every time they see a Honda fit check who's in the driver's seat, and it is a dyke diko every time. Why isn't gay? What? WHAT MAKES THE HONDA FIT? It's got a a lot of cargo space for a small vehicle. It's It's dependable, but it has something called a a magic see which one of our listeners say that they propose to their wife in the magic see. But yeah, it folds out it makes. So much space when you fall down the seats to move in with each other. Yeah. It's for for moving in with each other. You know you can do multiple moves just from one girlfriend to the next and the Honda will hold up for all those moves. But in some homophobic turn of events Honda has cancelled the Honda fit there no one making them. So they're very hard to get. It's hard to get like a used Honda or even a new one. And I was looking in trying to get one and I failed at getting a Honda. Fit. So I got a non Honda car. But the gay thing is we named it Sally Ride. How. Gassing I did this week was named my car sally ride. You Win. Celia is taking it a little too far. She's really acting like the cars person and. Seeing how far she can take it. So she's like, oh so whenever it needs to be serviced, we can say we're taking sally to the doctor or not we can just. Still treat it like a car. No, she's so not seeing many friends these days. That's true. I Want Cecilia up whatever she wants man. We'd Sally ride still alive rate she's still living no I don't think so celebrates dead. Am I finding out on this podcast that sally right is dead. Yeah, I. Think. He died in two thousand twelve. Yeah she no. She died a while laughed when. She died and then it came out after she was dead the that she was gay which. Of Us. Knew. Yeah. It's a bummer that people are just coming out beyond the grave or at their wedding. Sure. Yeah Yeah. We Love Sally Ride we purchased Sally Ride Stamps the commemorative stamps when they were up for grabs and that's what we use for any out related mail. So you know just A. Really supporting gay astronauts here. Taking out what do you say we blast off into our topic then? Oh, my God melody I love it you know the way to my heart. His ton based transition home man I'm I'm getting emotional I'm not kidding. Take off to non binary town. Yes. Sarah I know I was trying to think of another one and then I was like, Oh shit. That's you. I was like, okay. We're. First step? For Non Binary second okay. Yeah. Honestly I'm so excited to do this topic on now because I feel like I'm my podcast because we talk more about gay sex and we don't really get into like it's also like A. Loose. CAST like I'm not really getting into the INS and outs of like NBA is. Yeah excited suit talk about it on here. Can you explain non binary to my mom? Yeah. What's your mom's name Dorothy but she goes by Dadi but because in this conversation I'm her close friend and that's what I wanted. So what I'd probably do is like we said across like a nice like table probably like mid day like. That's how I like to do it coming out to people in explaining it. I. Think that's where I went. Wrong is I tried to explain this to my mom across the table at night up after she had some wine there there you have to catch dotty mid day. To explain. Got It. Now, I'm buying they them pronouns but but go ahead and play this to her next time. I see her okay. Okay. So so we're sitting across table lights up Hey Dadi It's me your non binary friend can sexual. Trans. Dyke Garra, and I hear it explain non binary isn't to you, and usually at this point with like people, you just ask them questions like. Do you know because you can't just like go dive right in. So I feel like I'd be like. Do you know what Trans People are. Let's just say like. Yes. I, know what? I'm assuming she does no. Okay. So I'd be like. So we know what transgender is so let's imagine this little space where like transgender is a big spectrum I. Love Him now talking to her like a preschooler but. Really, I'd be like drunk she'd be drug. We'd be like blasting billy Joel, and it'd be like. Come in out to you daddy right now. Listen Up Daddy now now bad cup listen up. It's a spectrum. Crazy spectrum and Honestly, you can fall anywhere on that spectrum, but it's also under the umbrella.

How Coronavirus is affecting MWC 2020
"GSA UPDATE ON CORONA virus. That is the subject line of an email that was sent out to registered attendees for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona which is happening in just a few weeks. Hello everybody and welcome to the pocket now. Weekly podcast hosted by yours truly judge of Gara. What's going on everybody all right? So we're GONNA get a little bit more abundant this particular episode because yes we have to talk about the corona virus which has literally affected so many portions of the world and various various different sectors including tech. Now I'm sure that most of you are aware of the different stories that have come out of Baku Rona virus in general but there were some very interesting stories stories that happened within the last week or so in regards to the different people who are going to be exhibiting at Mobile Congress. Obviously you're listening to the pocket. Weekly podcast so you are probably aware of what NWC is it is literally one of the most important shows throughout every single year where mobile technology is given the centerstage pretty much every company that has a hand in the creation of smartphones tablets wearables infrastructure five G. tend to go to Mobile World Congress and many of their big announcements happened in Barcelona. People like myself in high Rivera and many of the people that you know in the tech world go to the show every every single year and it is generally a very good time. Barcelona is a wonderful city With a lot of character and actually mobile world congress as far as the venue is concerned. The fear of our CELONA is one of the coolest venues when it comes to these shows that we go to every year but this year. It's going to be incredibly difference because with the News Corona virus spreading in China and in certain parts around the world. A lot of people have had to make the executive decisions to either attend or opt out of of 'em. WC without naming names. I know a few people who actually opted out of going. And it's going to be a bummer. Not Seeing them in Barcelona as it is basically a tradition for all all of us tech friends to get together at this show and I know a couple of other publications that have actually been giving their people some early notice that if they don't want to go to Barcelona they can actually say so. And of course this all started when the corona virus first sprouted in the WHO Bay province of China particularly the epicenter. Being a place is called Wuhan that is part of mainland China but because of the level of travel that we have in today's society and today's High-tech Society. Let's say there are people both traveling from so many places around the world that not only would people from that province moved to many other places via air travel and whatnot. They're also many visitors. Who might my end up going to? Who Bay province and they are also part of this huge quarantine or huge tracking of people who might be affected by this corona virus us? And as you're going to hear later from the email that I mentioned at the beginning of this episode Whether or not you have actually stepped foot near or in Wuhan Matters. But let's just talk for a little bit about the impact that the GM A has on the mobile industry. Mobile Congress is like I said one of the biggest shows of of the year it is one of what we call the Big Three Ceus. 'EM WC and EPA in Berlin. You're all aware of CAS which just happened about a month ago. And then Eva In Berlin happens usually every September near the end of the year when some final announcements are happening but at the beginning of the year basically in the first quarter. This is when you set the precedent precedent for the rest of the calendar year at 'EM WC by announcing some really big devices in Barcelona back in the day Samsung used to use. WC The as the jump off point for their galaxy S. line they used to go to 'em WC with the new devices but overtime Samsung decided to hold their own shows. Handy events Of course now we call those unpacked. And those are the shows that Samsung uses in order to announce the new devices but pretty much every other company attends Hans Nwc along with thousands upon thousands of other exhibitors to show off their latest updates to just highlight some of the big names. You have everyone from Xiaomi. A two Vivo and honor to Qualcomm Lenovo Motorola sick imagine how everybody felt when. LG One of the most recognizable names and mobile tag decided to pull out and of M W C completely. There's a certain hall in the fear of the venue for Mobile World Congress where all of the phone manufacturers tend to sort of clump together. And it's there that you can walk from qualcomm and just maybe take a two minute stroll over to Samsung and from Samsung you can take a quick stroll over to lg but now that huge huge portion of that hall LG tends to take. It's just going to be empty. It remains to be seen. What would happen with these particular companies booths and spaces basis now that they're not actually going to be there? But of course there are varying degrees to which companies are actually taking themselves out of the show Z.. T. E. announced that they wouldn't be at the show show but what that actually meant was they. Were not going to do a press conference but they would still have a booth and have representation on the show. Floor Ericson would then follow suit as the next company to to leave Mobile World Congress over concerns of the corona virus. Ericsson a name that you might remember from these Sony Ericsson days of those particular. Let's say dump phones as it was before the smartphone. smartphone era is still a major player in telecommunications and probably the biggest blow to GSI may so far when it comes to 'em WC. Andy's exhibitors was invidia video announcing that they would no longer be attending the show. This one's a big one because according to the verge in video was going to host ten sessions and actually have a place called the a innovation center now I have seen Invidia at a number of different shows and they always talk about the power of their cards and processors especially in terms of ai and and videos AI is starting to pop in so many different places even beyond computing and mobile They actually started talking about autonomous driving and getting into the five G. Game but the market detail here is that nvidia was also a major sponsor of the conference in general and they have partnered with the conference to have a bunch of different sessions every single year. But it's probably the biggest headline mainly because video was one of the major sponsors of 'em. WC Twenty twenty on top of everything that they were supposed to be hosting the fact that they okay and three other companies so far at the recording of this episode have pulled out of mobile world. Congress means that all of the topics they have been part of are no longer going to be in the discussion. There's going to be less. Ai There because of invidia less mobile devices because of LG Z.. T. Not having a major presence anymore and of course on the telecommunication side when it comes to Business Ericsson not being their means that they are out of the conversation during the show as well but that doesn't stop the fact that we you're still going to 'EM WC and WC is still going to happen after all there are still so many companies that will indeed be there and they will feel the conversations even if there's going to be a little bit less of a crowded space ticket for what you will but aside from Z.. T. E.. A lot of the major Chinese companies are still planning on attending and they are going to have have not only press conferences but major major updates to many of their products during the Barcelona show.

I mean, I really relate to Kyle here. Like, I am the greatest most fun social person. I know and yet the phone doesn't ring. I don't understand. Kyle just doesn't like. Have maybe we've been seeing this coming from Kyle like he's not gelling with the UK people. And really I mean, it's more like his alliance has gotten sent home the people he would be having fun with. So I don't know. I think needs to. End the pity party here and just get over it. So he goes wasn't really set off anything. I mean, they have any big blow of fight like no one else is like voting and like orange just coming off like so many eliminations in a row. There's just seemed like there'd be sparked out of nothing. So you just having a bad day. Yeah. I mean, he's just like on an island though. Because like who's he even with at this point while they're still teams like he's not. I mean, it's debatable. If he's in with west right when like THEO ASA met, he's definitely not in with car and Polly and his whole Lyons has gone home. And he's like trying to Noni maybe, but he just doesn't really have his squad. And despite being the most Social Fund person the house Kyle is powerless without a squad. Which one of these is not let the other. You gotta be feel for matter. You're a little bit like he's been hooking up with Maddie. I guess that's not enough for him. Like, I thought we were. We were having fun me me. You know is that still going on? Or is that just like a one time? I mean, they kissed on the bus in the last like night out we saw so I mean, yeah. I mean, they're not like a long term relationship story on the show, but we've seen them canoed alling again. Right. Not making much of an impact the way definitely not on his life. Apparently. And then we did get Cam saying she's motivated to win because she wants to bring her mom in and that's motivation enough, and they and they zero in on targeting west, I guess this is in cams always really been committed to the UK alliance. And this is just like them vocalizing it. Yeah. I mean, I think she's committed to it as long as like it's good for her. And at this point of his still good for her if she made it longer, and it was more individual than maybe she would venture off if that cedar fit. But she always goes us go to like getting in where the numbers are good. Yeah. And then we get the worst thing to happen. And we thought this was maybe are. "I'm hearing all kinds of conspiracy theories. I'm hearing, you know, bomb it's this. It's that whatever the case may be. But I wanna sit down talk about this from a different angle. 'cause I think some people are missing part of the story now as you heard some of the clips there was some kind of deal that was brokered everything has been locked down. The we didn't get to see all the evidence. In the case. We only got to see parts of it. That's just the way these things work. That's the way it is. An all these cases you don't ever get to see all the all the evidence. And apparently now because they have decided wipe the charges clean. They are not going to take it to trial, and they have locked everything down. We're never going to see any of that evidence. Now, you so. Aw. The police department is upset the mayor is upset a lot of people were shocked a lot of people are upset and a lot of people wanna know what the heck is going on. Like, I said, I'm hearing all the conspiracy theories about it. I'm hearing, you know, it just a lot of his our stuff. However, I wanna take you guys back to Monday. And this is part of the story that I think everybody is missing. And I kinda thought about it as soon as I heard the story this morning. I kinda thought about this because they immediately said that there was some kind of deal now when there's a deal made I know jussie smollet is still saying that he's innocent. Maybe maybe he isn't. I think there's about five people at still believe he was actually innocent. However since he's not being fried. Maybe he is maybe he isn't. We just don't know. Unfortunately, they didn't tell us one way or the other the police and the mayor seem to think he's guilty. But what can you do? Now. Like, I said he is still proclaiming his innocence. But. What I'm seeing coming out of the court is not a innocent play. Okay. They aren't even saying he's innocent. As was stated in that one quote. They are not saying that he's exonerated. They're not saying any of this stuff. He's the only one that saying he is what they're actually saying here is that some kind of deal was made. We're not going to end up finding about the facts of it. We aren't gonna find any of this stuff out because all of this has been locked down. And like the police chief said all of this is being done in secrecy. So we are ever going to find out what any of these details. Are he was not exonerated? He made a deal. Now, I wanna go back to Monday because I think this was going to maybe an again, I could be wrong. This is kind of I guess my own conspiracy theories. So I could be wrong. But this was the first thing that popped into my head go back to the big news for Monday. This is from CNBC. Stormy daniels. Ex-lawyer Michael Nadi arrested for alleged twenty million dollar extortions game against Nike embezzling clients money. Defrauding bank. Now, what the hell does that have to do with Jesse smollet? Well, if we go over to the Washington Examiner. We have got CNN analyst, Mike gara- goes. I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly as well. I'm really bad with names said to be ovens alleged co conspirator. So now who is this? Shady lawyer. Who is this guy? Well, let's take a look at what we've got here. The alleged co conspirator and store in case against celebrity lawyer, Michael Nettie is believed to be CNN legal analyst, Mike era. Gos- Dera go sixty one was not named in the criminal complaints against Nettie. To people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal that the co-conspirator referred to the document as C one a California attorney known for representation of celebrity and public figure clients was garra goose it is not known whether garra goes has been charged or is cooperating with investigators. A CNN spokesperson told the Washington Examiner on Monday afternoon that gara- goes is no longer CNN contributor one of the best known criminal defense. Lawyers in America Garrett goes clients have included football player, Colin cabernet, the late singer, Michael Jackson. Actress went on a rider. Former congressman Gary Condit jailed Clinton associates. Susan McDougal murderer Scott Peterson former hockey player, Scott Barney and actor Jesse small. So let's see. On monday. We find out that Nettie has been arrested and charged with an extortion plot against Nike later on that day, it is alleged that this Mark Aguirre goes is also the co-conspirator it's being alleged. Okay. That he's the co conspirator. And then today suddenly in a surprise twist. And in a stance before the judge that lasted less than five minutes. Jussie smollet sixteen felony charges were wiped away.
Female frogs prefer city slickers
"That's the mating call of the tone Gara frog used to attract a particularly gorgeous female nearby, scientists from the Smithsonian tropical research institute have been eavesdropping on male frogs looking for love in Panama city's urban streets and those living in the nearby. Tropical forests, it seems frogs from the city put on a sexier mating display than those in the wild Rachel page. Co-authored the study and told me more. So if you look at these urban frogs? They have much less pressure in terms of the predators and parasites that they're trying to avoid however, on the flip side there just aren't as many females need surfing here is so an urban calling frog has to do a lot more work to attract a female. So his calls tend to be much more attractive is how much higher call rate, and he puts a lot of these extra checks to his calls to make them complex in a check to females. So it looks like that combination increased sexual selection pressure. So having to work a lot harder to get a mate, plus this relaxed natural selection pressure. Not having nearly the number. Parasites and predators is really shaping those calls net calling behavior of us city. And what do they sound like the name of the frog? The common name is tour at frog and the name is actually for the call. So this call is pretty cool. It has to hearts one is this simple part of wine Nesbitt too. So. In males. When they're in risky situations with lots of predators around, for example. They'll just make simple that's when they really trying to check your nose. And you're not as worried about his approaching predators though, at independence to those calls making a complex version. So the full on call is. And they can add multiple shocks the Jackson the garden. So they can add. Up to seven shucks on the end. Why were you trying to find all of this out? There changes that are taking place all over the globe to urbanism, and we're wondering how animals react to these changes. We know that humans have a great number of changes as they move to urban environments. So we wanted to know if massive changes cons, but you're gonna station are actually resulting in changes in the animal behaviors as well. And we find that indeed. "Enrolling mountains in the distance. But now. It's full of big yellow machines clearing, the less chunks of mcmansions off of cement foundations. I mean, it looks like. Looks like the type of rulings that you would see like in the. Liking Greece or something those rulings till story if you know wildfires like revealed data reporter, Eric's Gara. There's still an actual part of a building standing. There's a huge amount of space there if you worry about wildfires. You wanna keep plenty of space between you and anything that will burn that means bushes and trees, but also other houses, so if you have a huge house on the small lot, you don't have a whole lot of like space declare defend yourself, and if Bush is in houses are wildfire rocket fuel this steep hillside is like a wildfire launchpad because heat rises, but at the fire, riskier, so obvious. How did it all built in the first place for that arrogant? I pulled in reveals Patrick Michael's, or it's the development fountaingrove sort of begins in the early seventies. When Hewlett Packard wants to move up from Palo Alto and put a tech campus. There. This is the Hewlett Packard HP, sixty five the first fully programmable pocket sized calculator, Hewlett Packard, filter campus on part of it and the rest of it was basically worker housing. And that's what started this building spree out on the hillside, and sort of one after another these master planned communities started popping up on the hills above Santa Rosa, and you can actually see this from the air that's Eric's Gara again, and we have an animation here to show you how that growth looks. Okay. So what am I looking at here so up here shows me, a time, lapse bird's eye view of Santa Rosa. And if you look rate where the stark spot is that is found grove on those dark green hills at the edge of the city white dots in line. Start appearing their houses and streets in the late nineties. They take over that's a massive amount of growth in in relatively short period time, right? So Eric all of these houses are going up in a fire prone wilderness area is that unique to this part of California actually isn't actually pretty common throughout the country this fire prone area that we're talking about the wildland urban interface. This is where homes and vegetation kind of collide and mix together. And so no mccown the population in these areas grew by about twenty percent over the course of two decades that's actually rate at the national average, Patrick what about the people who move into these type of houses. I mean, did they know about the fire danger will not really we met with a woman named Susan Gorin who moved in the nineties temporary, permanent home. Well, we build. Own home. Just burned down those photos were rescued in that her husband had a job at Hewlett Packard. And she and her husband were both big outdoors. People the natural beauty of cinema county is really.

I've I've driven, I've driven all sorts of stuff and that just a new word for Koenigs of really, you know, my favorite thing was up there is the the wrap around windshield. The view from inside one of those things really unlike any other car. You know, the roof line kinda cuts a little low on it. So when you're pulling up at a light, you got to kind of lean a little bit neck Kramer visibility. Around you in the cockpit in it. It's really good. It's lovely, you know, like, oh, it's not the the pillars are actually pretty small out where they need to be about coming to a junction and go shit. I can't see you around the city. Yeah, they actually are outs there further forward of your side decide visibility, and there's a nice little trick on the screen where you tuggle fill little center dial, and then your screen becomes river camera just as on all the time. Seventeen presidential election and Australian government review into religious freedom is expected to include a cool for schools to be given the right to turn away gay students, the rhetoric review recommends amendments to the country sex discrimination legislation to allow religious. Schools to refuse students on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The prime minister said the proposals in the report will be considered carefully and respectfully BBC's. Hello. You're listening to the newsroom from the BBC World Service with me Emilio San Pedro. It's not yet a month since hurricane Florence at the east coast of the United States causing catastrophic damage in north and South Carolina. Now people in northern Florida are preparing for another huge storm hurricane Michael which is expected to pass over the north west of the state later on Wednesday. The Florida governor Rick Scott described it as highly dangerous and potentially life-threatening. Let me be clear. Hurricane Michael is a monstrous storm forecast gets keeps getting more dangerous. We're now just hours away from CNN packs again, hurricane Michael is coming to the Gulf Coast, and panhandle and impacts will start in just a few hours. The time to repairs right now. The storm is dangerous. If you don't follow a warnings from officials. This storm could kill you lose Fajardo BBC monitoring is in Florida. He's been telling me more about what the authorities. There are saying we've been hearing about officials starting of course, governor Rick Scott telling people in Florida to be very alert this storm they're expecting impact on Wednesday afternoon. Probably they are expecting it could even move into a category. Four storms were very dangerous storm, particularly they're worried about the possibility of storm surges of up to twelve feet in some parts, they could expect them as you say it's different from hurricane Florence. There's at least one sign of relief for Florida in the sense that it's supposed to advance quickly. What are the problems with Florence? And we've got major storms and have occurred recently in the US is the fact that they've been going slower than usual because of that grading even more prominence of flooding. Apparently, this one is expected to move relatively quickly through Floyd. So it could be. Very destructive because of the wind, but not so much of the sort of hanging around what other preparations of the authorities making nearly one hundred and twenty thousand people have been told to leave and in several counties in northwest, Florida. Some people are particularly worried because as several of these counties are in rural areas they are relatively far away from the main resort city of Miami. And orlando. Is what many people in the world now, Florida for these are more rural and more impoverished areas? One of the counties, which is under risk by this here again, apparently they're saying that they don't have enough shelters capable to withstand this degree of uric aims. So they're trying to make sure that people are are well prepared. Also, they're dealing with another issue. The fact that is the third consecutive year that Florida has been under threat of a major hurricane and people are worried that in some occasions, they could feel that they don't take the risks seriously as they should. So I guess I kind of fatigue because of this constant threat of hurricane. So they're trying to make sure that the people know that this is a very serious situation. Reese, the President Trump's administration has seen its fair share of high profile departures, not all apparently as amicable as this one though, we're all happy for you. In one
Internxt (INXT) X Cloud - Decentralized Cloud Storage Service
"I want to explore the world of crypto and blockchain with a company called internet based. The company first appeared on my radar. After I discovered that they are disrupting industries through the use of revolutionary technology. They are creating a range of innovative products and services that strives to substitute those already currently massively adopted. So it was a pretty big brave move. For example, I service ex- cloud is a distributed, highly secure cloud storage service, which is hoping to compete with services such as dropbox, Google or I cloud. And most interesting of all is Fran as France cigar at founder and CEO east to twenty one years old. He's a young entrepreneur who before starting internet's worked to hosting international studies, own web hosting company. He's also part of the next web's t. five hundred which holler at the most talented young entrepreneurs in the digital saying. So book loop and hold on tight. As I beam your is all the way to Spain, so we can speak. We've Fran villa Bassa Gara, founder and CEO of internet. So massive, warm, welcome to the show friend. Can you tell the listeners a little about who you are and what you do? Sure. Yes. I'm Fran. I'm the founder and CEO Vince next next weeklies ovation company and we will talk about it in enough minutes. I guess. But yeah, I'm, I'm twenty one. I love interpenetrate love you technology. Now, when I was researching Yugo is you hooked me in with your Tagoloan technologies to enhance life into next is transforming the way people live through revolutionary technology. So you hope me straight away with that tackle on. But I mean, can you just set the scene and paint a picture for listeners and help them visualize exactly what kind of problems do you actually solve x. cloud is, yes. So internet, these any no company. And we strive to do many different things that took to revolutionize different in the different industries. So right now we're doing that in the car industry and office product is called x. explode and that's a decentralized more security perversion of I cloud on Google Drive. So right now we are disrupting the car in this really said about in the future. We strive to do the same thing in other industries, so kind of what I'm Joan apple are doing. So they're not also, for example, Amazonas only online shoulder, you know, you know innovating in many other industries as well. So. What always five to next. So I've got to ask as well, where does the next token into all this? How does that work. Yeah. So the token dean, thanks so can. So how it works is we've x. cloud, our first product people by by the service is doing tokens or in dollars and either biting tokens, these gets paid hosts. So people hosting the files are the ones getting painting tokens. I think they biting dollars what we always those dollars. We buy tokens. So virtually especially the same as if they were paying told lake integrion's directly. But we don't want to force people to pay tokens because he may be I, if you want to try must adoption, I think in a people may not use it because of that. So so, yeah. So basically either directly or indirectly people paying tokens and with those though because we pay hosts and that's how it took advice works. So when I first discovered you guys straightaway, I'm thinking of other disruptive services outlasts which is stores and say, get x. cloud better or different from those solutions, right? Yes. So these two companies, I think they have their targeting different kind of customers. So the target audience is completely different. So if you want to use store j or Siah there, you have to be either developer or feel comfortable with of developer environmentally user experience. I would say so, whereas we getting any kind of customers as we targeting the mass market. So we talk, we in corporations, we targeting startups tolerating. I don't know anyone, basically individuals who who not necessarily need to know how to develop for how to how to code. So yeah. So in terms of marketing, like the two companies are in basically in any marketing, we are focusing in marketing or our efforts are in in marketing an in building, a very beautiful user experience, which is superseded Poland, super beautiful, and I don't know an as good as that of our Google Drive. So yes. So basically we're competing with Google Drive right cloud, not really with stores your sale because of the target audience we have. So how we describe ourselves is basically. A more secure and cheaper version of accountable drive. Thanks. We centralization on encryption, so it really feels into next. He's going after a completely different market segments are always your intention. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. So
