"Was his shot this year and Denver gave him a lot of space on it They gave Jimmy Butler a lot of space and drop coverage at times. He just wasn't able to take advantage You mentioned Kayla Martin and Max through something strews going 0 for 9 from 3 I don't know if his legs retired off the Boston series the Heat claim You know, they played the series on top of Mount Everest I understand they don't it's a mindset thing for them They don't want to use the altitude as an excuse But you just have to wonder if his legs we're getting used to it because every single one of his shots was off I also think a big kind of not storyline but fascinating quirk from this game Miami taking only two free throws those coming from Haywood Highsmith to me that was a direct result of the Heat Taking the space Denver was giving them and shooting jump shots as opposed to attacking the rim Butler mentioned after the game It's on me. I need to attack the rim. I agree. I thought he had several opportunities to go up strong at the rim You know that time he got blocked my Michael Porter jr. Jimmy likes to play to the glass a lot He favors his right hand a lot I think there are times where he needs to go straight line drive at the rim test Yocic test Porter See if you can get these guys in foul trouble I think that's their best bet offensively kind of really slow the game down put it in the mud as they like to say I Was baffled at the number of times. It felt like Jimmy could have attacked Yocic at the rim and chose not to I think Jeff and Gunny made a comment after the or one of the times Yocic sat He was like Denver doesn't have any shot blocking in the game right now And I was like Jeff the Yocic is not a shot blocker. They don't have shot blocking a period you could argue Unless it's one of their players coming over the weak side.

If you haven't shopped around in a few years, you probably are consumer businessman Herb Weissbaum, a contributing editor at checkbook, says you might be able to save hundreds of dollars a year just by switching Which in companies homeowners insurance isn't cheap, but it's one of those purchases many of us make and then forget about. we just We let the policy renew year after year. Insurance companies are counting on that. If you want to get the best deal on on home insurance. You need to shop around every few years. Checkbook researchers. We've been shopping for rates for decades the decades now, and we always find that most of us can save hundreds of dollars each year, and some homeowners can save $1 ,500 a year simply by switching to a lower cost company Kevin Brasler is checkbooks Executive editor now it's kind of a pain to do this shopping around the price comparison websites that are out there that promise to do all do this work for you don't really work well at all. So to really shop around you'll have to sit for a few hours and collect rates and maybe talk to a few agents. I always say it's like doing your taxes except you know after you've taken a few hours first to to shop you'll probably find that you can save $500 or more per year and sometimes a lot more than that simply by taking some time and shopping around for better rates. That's worth your time to do. Don't assume you'll get that. mm the opposite is true. "I did think that screengrab going around of Stephen A Smith not putting Nikola Jokic on his list of Supermax guys, I mean look that's a little disrespectful. Nikola Jokic is absolutely worthy of every nickel that he's been paid He proved that in game one also I just want to say the Miami Heat if anything were Overrespected because everyone coming into the playoffs was like the Heat are dangerous and it's like this team had a negative point differential Okay, they were not disrespected they were straight -up below average during the regular season They were below average in the first play -in game. Yeah, they got smoked by Atlanta on their own court. So It's all what you choose to believe and how you try to interpret it. But game one on Thursday night, obviously I was there Tremendous atmosphere tremendous experience and It was just an outstanding performance by Denver it was a Largely drama -free complete execution of their opponent And it was done in very nuggets II type ways Which is to say it wasn't their best player going out and dominating from start to finish It was a combination of things you had Aaron Gordon scoring 12 points in the first quarter You had Jamal Murray Scoring 26 points on 22 shots Michael Porter jr Who did not shoot the ball well 5 or 16 but finding ways to impact the game in other ways I think he had what 13 rebounds two blocks? Yeah a couple of blocks not a guy not known for his defense played pretty good defense on the perimeter when you add Max streus go 0 for 10 and Caleb Martin go 1 for 7 Miami's is not gonna win a lot of games when those two guys are shooting like that And then when they needed somebody to take over the game in the fourth quarter when Miami made kind of one of those Quasi runs to cut the lead to 9 at one point you had Jokic take over and he had 12 points in the fourth Then was just dominant You know I thought this was the game Rohan that Miami needed to steal to have any chance to win the series They had to win game one Denver was off for 10 days. Miami was sharp coming off that series against Boston I'm sure a little tired from that as well, but you know This was their chance in my opinion to to get a game and and it didn't do it They didn't do it because Denver continues to be just elite They continue to be the best team in the NBA. So that was kind of my takeaway. You saw the Nuggets Just be the Nuggets and be the team. We've seen really since the start of the second round of the playoffs What did you see? Yeah, you know, I picked Denver to win this series in five and this kind of confirmed game one at least confirmed Why it's just they execute at such a high level That Even when Miami for example, you mentioned they make that quasi run in the fourth quarter and it's is Denver a little threatened Just feels like the Nuggets can get a good shot on offense Whenever they really put their mind to it and that's the feeling I got in game one You know the heat in the fourth quarter turned up the defense a little bit Jokic sat for a few minutes But I just saw Denver through three quarters, especially Executing at such a high level offensively They have so much talent and so many different ways to hurt the heat You mentioned Aaron Gordon taking advantage of switches in the first quarter kind of dominating the pain against smaller Miami players So then Miami says okay, Jimmy Butler's saying on Aaron Gordon We're not gonna give up the switch that leads to defensive miscommunications elsewhere You have other guys getting to the rim getting to the three -point line You mentioned how this was a game Miami was supposed to steal even with the heats three -point shooting struggles They outshot Denver from the three -point line.

"Seen some more showers come through. Some clouds as well have been sticking around long, all day and it's 57 degrees Northwest news time 1 36 details continue to trickle out of the discord leaks from the member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard who allegedly published highly classified information online. And this time we're learning that Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, threatened to ties cut and inflict economic pain on the US amid a feud over oil production. John Hudson covering this for Washington the Post, and he joins us now on Northwest News radio. John, when were these threats made and remind remind us of the state of the US Saudi relationship at that time? Yeah, so these threats were made fall. last What was going on was a very important, it was a very important for energy prices. Essentially, the Saudis had decided to cut ties and inflict economic pain. And the United States was already facing very high energy prices, as were everyone else in the world. President Biden was furious at the decision and he vowed to impose consequences. Now at the time, the Saudis were just very politely defending themselves and defending the decision to slash oil production. But behind closed doors, the Saudi Crown Prince threatened to fundamentally alter the US Saudi relationship and post significant economic costs on the United States if it did retaliate and even cut off ties. Interestingly, the United States decided not to impose any consequences, even though the president would do so, or at least said he would do so. When these threats were being made, is it clear Who heard the Saudi Crown Prince make these threats? Was it directly to President Biden's face? It was not to Biden's face. Right now it's unclear whether or not the Crown Prince directly conveyed it to US officials or if it was intercepted through electronics eavesdropping. This is a classified intelligence document that was the basis of our story. Or oftentimes, the US intelligence community eavesdrops on important foreign government officials and in order to better inform our officials in government and so it's unclear in what way this is going to be. But intelligence officials thought it was important enough to flag it internally inside the US government. When to threaten to cut economic ties with the US might lead someone to think okay, maybe they waiting have someone in the wings for Saudi Arabian money and oil. How is Mohammed bin Salman approaching other nations like China for example? Yeah, well, this is why managing the US -Saudi relationship is so difficult because the United States also doesn't want to give China a stronger foothold in the Middle East. The Chinese have had growing ties with the Saudis and other traditional US allies in the Middle East as China becomes a bigger and bigger consumer of oil. And so what the United States wants to make sure is that the Saudis do not become a sort of security partner with China. We know they're going to be an economic partner, but they've been traditionally a US security partner. So that would amount to a significant change. Now, of course, human rights advocates have said, hey, maybe we should have a significant rupture with the Saudis. This is not a democracy. They don't share our values. And it seems to be hypocritical when the Biden administration says human rights is at the center of US foreign policy. So all these decisions are being weighed by the US officials on whether or not to bring the Saudis closer the US to or keep them at an arm's length distance. John Hudson with us on Northwest News Radio, reporter for The Washington Post. You can find out much more online at washingtonpost .com, including how the US relationship with Saudi Arabia has developed in the time since those threats were made. It's 140. "AP sports I'm time Miriam. It was a marathon day of sports on Monday, starting with a morning Major League Baseball game, and ending with two late night overtime games in the Stanley Cup playoffs. In between the NBA played two game twos in its opening round series in Philadelphia the 76ers maximized home court advantage defeating the next 96 84 as tyrese maxi led a defense that held the nest for just 35 second half points while scoring 33 himself. "Some team, will use that performance and say, that's enough. We feel good going forward with this guy, get Hopkins home. To last night. Maybe that seems Washington. And also awful over to ya. Really think you kicks. He should have made. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. You're spot-on with that. So, it's a real kicker competition, right now. They're going to have to pick one. Nick, Foles being hurt or whatever. We don't know that he's hurt. He's just not practising. So whatever is going on with Nick Folk right now is a part of the equation. If he's not ready to go. He's not ready to go. Maybe they, you know, maybe they cut. Nate to return or Dean and then bring full back to start the season. Something like that, just to buy nordine some time, but I'm a full-on kicker competition right now. And this is all because Nick Folk isn't playing. I think if Nick Folk was healthy or able to go last night. They put him out there, nordine doesn't get a shot. We don't see nordina on the preseason. They bury them practice squad and we revisit in 20 22. This is why availability is the best ability. This is why people who work in sports are terrified to take days off because Quinn Nordin came in and he Tom Brady, Nick Fox Drew Bledsoe. That's what it looks like. He's doing right now. Yeah, exactly. It's not there. All the way the extra points something they're going to look at he has to home. That's just one mess. That's his work. Best for the preseason. I think in their eyes, he's got a hit every extra point from here on out every field goal within 40 from here on out. But if he does, then you're looking at a really tough decision, because Nick folks are known commodity and he was very good last year kicking the vehicle, but he was very good last year. You don't go inside of that, right? You don't want it. You can just training camp is training camp and preseason games is great to see him. Go out there and make the three kicks that he made last night, but I don't, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that Nick Folk was very, very good for the Patriots last year. But with that being said, as you mentioned, Alex availability is the best ability. And if Nick Folk is legitimately heard, then there's nothing to talk about here. Right? It's it's already over because Nick Folk's not going to be ready for the start of the Season or something like that. So there's a lot of elements to this but I definitely don't want to lose sight of the fact that Nick Folk was a very good kicker for the Patriots last year and you never truly know what they were Okie kicker until you get into the season with them. And this is a team that tends to lean more towards veterans to inexperience. So you have to log, For that in as well as yeah, that's a good point. Well, that, that about wraps it up there, a solid hour and 25 minutes. Plus, Atlas is now sleeping. You finally quieted down allowed us to finish out the show here? Tomorrow. Saturday is an off day for the Patriots. We just heard about that Sunday is still TBD, but the team is going to be traveling to Philadelphia a Sunday afternoon for joint practices with the Eagles on Monday. And Tuesday. "I'll pull the numbers up. I looked up his historical. Yep. Which to see the last time he did that and I just got to scroll through a couple of things here, but I will give you the numbers here. They are so 2015. So he really didn't play defense. He played 106 name, over three seasons, his first years in Arizona, 10096. And then he played 442 7450 that's in each year from 2015 to 2017,. So he you know, he played about a quarter to a half of their the Cardinals defensive snaps during that stretch. Basically, it rotational outside corner, which is what the Patriots need. And then putting him out there last night on a night where a lot of special teams guys didn't play, Matthew Slater, Brandon Bolden, they're trying to get him ready to play boundary corner and I don't know that he's the the be-all end-all answer. It might be more of a break glass in case of emergency key might be the same. He might be the Johnson. Bademosi of this team is. I think it's a little more than that. No, I think it's a little more than that. Oh, I really do. I hope you're wrong. Wrong wrong. I don't think it's it's obviously not the best answer. But if they can't add somebody externally or steps, not ready to come back. Because remember, even if they, you know, even what if both, if both those things don't happen, even if one of those things happens, you still need to fill the third cornerback spot. So what I saw last night and it wasn't a ton of snaps, I think he played like fifteen eighteen snaps of two or three drives. I think we've seen in practice to he's been out there. I think they're trying to get Justin Bethel ready to play outside corner in case they need them. That's not good. And look he's fine at it. He's decent at it. I actually, you know, I was kind of surprised when she came here and they didn't use them out there as a depth guy more. I thought he could handle a small roll out there, in addition to special teams, but they, they, they were doing it before and you're doing it now, that that indicates to me that something's wrong, something's wrong because Joanne will not that he was all laughing. Like, like, you said, sorry, Justin Bethel made a really nice play Early second call log. I think it was early second-quarter. Yeah that quarterback ended up writing scrambling for on a third-and-one. He ended up scrambling for a first down. But Justin Bethel was falling underneath a vertical Corner out and it was a it was sort of a bootleg action type of play and the Crosser was coming from the back side. And the Crosser was open and the quarterback went to go throw the processor and Justin Bethel peel off the corner route, pass it off to the safety and jump across or enforce the quarterback to run with the football. And I said, oh that that's a pretty good play by Justin Bethel, you know, you just write those types of things down. You should see what happens there with that. But John Williams is still, I think a little bit of an issue. I really liked what miles Bryant did last night. Yeah. He was a game. We played a lot of deep middle of the field, safety, and the concern that I had with him playing back, there was length, right?.

"He hasn't really been able to get a ton of live rep. So somebody like am definitely needs more live reps because Henry Anderson gotten, plenty of live rep. So I think you missed one practice, but he's played plenty of live, snaps and Training Camps. So I think that's correct. Element of it as well. You mentioned Henry Anderson playing late into the game. He played Seventeen snaps overall. So it's not like he played at times, not like he played for snaps in the game or anything like that. But I thought I'd the I've got Henry Anderson's look great in the in the padded practices. I think he has a good speed to power. I think it's got a nice inside countermove and one-on-ones that we see come out a lot. I think he's got decent physicality long run. I thought he's been a really good player in practice. So I was really surprised to see him out there for that long. You mentioned that maybe is just learning the defense right? And getting live reps to get the knowledge defense down and and and the framework of it down, but I was definitely shocked to see him out there that long. Yeah. Yeah, I again I was too and I I don't hate Bob's explanation that it, they just he wants more time to get comfortable with the defense and the coaching staff. Applied. Should, I don't think that that's too, outlandish. I really can't think of anything that makes more sense than that. And again, even if that was the case off. He could have had those snaps earlier in the game. So that that one's a little weird not something to to keep an eye on because I think you know going back to Mike Pennell. We all thought Mike Pinella was a lot, right? People talk about him being this great outfit and then I remember eating, you know, just from the beginning, it didn't work out and I know that Anderson's there, but we've seen it happen right? Before defensive tactics. Now, is not the only one. I can't think of any others, you my head Pony, Eliza going one and this has happened a lot at that position in particular with the Patriots were, it just doesn't click with the system and it's not just guys they signed. I mean, my gosh, well, everybody knew he was good at the majors are going to sign it before they signed him and he was the same thing even before the Jets cut him. There were people. I mean, like, like people who know, I think you were one foot faulting you for this cuz I know I brought Henry Anderson was a fit for them for a year. People were saying from the jump. Oh, he's going to get cut by the Jets. He's going to sign with the Patriots. Like this is a guy who was already penciled in as a patriot before. He was a free agent. No, it was the same way. I don't remember as much as Kony Ealy, but, you know, because we've seen that before and I like to say this, all the time, Bill Belichick, you do something as long as he has patterns are going to develop you look for patterns. You can kind of start to predict with the Patriots are going to do. Here is a pattern. Let's see how it plays out the pattern of players. And we can continue to talk about this, as we move backwards into the secondary off, the pattern of players playing late into preseason games for Bill. Belichick always spells, not good things for the player, right? Like that. He is very rhythmic about things like that. But these guys, the only guy that I can remember that played, don't you remember what Jason McCourty was playing in the fourth quarter? That was weird..

"Outside Jammu gets inside and hits the quarterback and enforces an incomplete pass. So you have the tackle-for-loss dropping into coverage rushing, the pass or complete package last night from Matt, June. 12 snaps in. You're already saying, wow, that guy can really play football. Yeah, he was excellent. And then we had that whole roller coaster where maybe he was hurt, and he came right game and whatever he again. You see the picture coming together with Kyle, Van Noy comes in on one side. Stands up that block, it forces the whole line to kind of over shift. Gives Jude on room. In the back door. He comes through makes the tackle when they sign the contracts in March exactly what they were pictured picture and you see it in practice, right there in the game right there. You see that? Then put it into practice right there. It's a beautiful thing. It was he was an absolute Force. How about Josh J 3, quarterback pressures for all her. He's but you saw some of that explosiveness, you blew up by the backup, left tackle for Washington on one rep. I posted that on Twitter, just wage continues to be very explosive athlete when he's out there a little bit on the line, a little bit off the line, doing some of those different Dante, Hightower type of things. Like he mentioned a few months ago that he wanted to be like Hightower a, New Jersey. See, not necessarily the power at the point of attack and the physicality that Dante Hightower brings the table, but certainly the versatility to a degree for a young player who Jane looks like he's going to be home. I started if and this is this is a myth cuz last night it came up again every single time he gets some momentum. The guy seems to get nicked up with something Friday. It's right then pulled hamstring in a bank or whatever the case may be. But when you die, excuse me, when she is out there. He's fantastic but he's gotta stay healthy. He's going to have to stay in one piece. Yeah, I think the big and he and he said last night, he was feeling, I think the exact order was fantastic after getting a little banged up himself, a smile on his face. He was right. Yeah, the big thing for him with me. We talked a lot about this in the weeks, leading up to sneak up that one of these depth Edge, guys, was going to have to place the middle linebacker to stick on this to not necessarily to stick on the team. But to you know, find the snaps will really get a chance to have a real role on Thursday. Fence and we saw Joshua. J. Playing some Mike linebacker last night and I thought maybe that would be Chase. "One of those moments where it was, they signed that guy to go out there and make the exact thoughts. Zach play and there's been cases over the last few years, but they sign a guy or they draft a guy for you know to fill one specific role in that guy doesn't ultimately go out there and fill that role, you know to kill Harry Bosch and Williams right under. Looks like he's going to fill that exact role in that. That's freaking exciting. I'll tell you that. I thought the whole day he got called on him too was a little bit ticky-tack. It looked like it was kind of a d, a m, a Savvy move by Chase young to keep Chase down kind of grabbed jaanu a little bit to make it look like it was he was holding on to him as Damien Harris. Ran off the edge there a little bit that play though that you mentioned it. We've seen that play a thousand times already out at training camp, right? John is Smith shallow, drag route coming across the formation, throw it away from the defensive rotation. Hit him in stride. Let him run with it down the sideline. We we've already seen that. At least I would say a dozen times maybe even closer to 20 times in Training Camps. So I wasn't surprised at all to see him do that. We haven't really seen them tackle. I've necessarily in training camp all the way to the ground quite yet. So it was obviously great to see him pick up those yards after contact. But exactly what we were expecting out of Johnny Smith. The running back. I I think the two running backs, a matter of the most bring up one more tight end point. I'm just curious what you get for this. Matt lacosse was the second tight end of the field when they went in 12 early in the game him over Asia Asia, and I I think Assi Assi just being a top 100 pick a year ago. I think it's going to make it makes it really hard for them to get rid of them. Agholor has to be able to win a one-on-one matchup down the field and get open deep and create those explosive place. He did it with the Vegas, Raiders. Last year. He was one of the best deep-ball receivers in the league on a statistical basis, right? So he's done it before in the league at a high level in that regard. And he's going to have to bring that to the Patriots. What do you make about Christian wilkerson's night. That's your boy. How did you feel the the pet pass in the end zone? He's clearly somebody these quarterbacks like throwing the ball to I think he looked good after the catch, which is you know, he's going to have to win in that sense. When if and when he makes the team and if and when he's off of the offense, so I you know, I I'm not over-the-top about it. I don't know that. I feel like he gained any ground. I don't think he lost any ground because that drops going to be the lasting image. And that's just for the outside observers. I'm sure with Bill Belichick in the coaching staff as well. That's going to be the lasting image, but outside of that place. I thought he played well, I thought he more or less did what he needed to do. Nothing more than that. Nothing lasts so long. Answer until week to with him. I think is kind of where we're at it. And I didn't learn too much somebody to other takeaways from Christian Wilkerson, one, the opening kickoff of the game, number seventeen's out there as a gunner on the kickoff team, right? And he looked at that and he'd say that's those ten guys. Plus Jake Bailey that take the field there. That's their number one unit for kickoff coverage and crash Wilkerson was right there, right? So that that's all the things that we talked about the other day, about his special teams contributions. They clearly already view him as a regular special teams contributor. And if you remember what I've been trying to tell you, right? When when Jonathan Jones first made the team, right?.

"The way he was born in Camp that he'd be the first guy, they look too cuz you know, both of these guys have a lot on the line. This isn't Tom Brady just going out there and going through the motions and knowing everything's going to be okay. There's a starting job on the line. There's loss States here for these quarterbacks. So they're going to go to who they trust you kill Harry. Played the most snaps of any skill position player last night, and had just one target. That should tell you all it needs to tell you the whole. Yes, he's dead. Great to this point last night when it mattered most, he wasn't for when for one in one way or the other. He wasn't. So, there you go. And I know I'm going to, I know I'm coming across in to kill Harry hater again. Know that I like, I see it. I am telling you what? I see. I'm not somebody who's out here trying to push an agenda. I gonna kill Ares, great, that makes them a better team and I would enjoy that. But I think last night was a juror red flag after the start. He's gotten off to, ya know. I hit the nail on the head. I really feel like if you are open down the field, these quarterbacks I do think are going to try to throw the ball down there. I thought of one instance, maybe two or a had one on one. Like I said, back side of the formation, or they could have tried to throw, throw the ball up to him. He got open on a deep post. It looked like and cam decided to throw it to a store instead of a deep post. There were a couple of instances where maybe he could have made a play on the ball, but more times than not you're throwing balls into fifty-fifty territory with him and off. I get it. That's the type of receiver that he is and we're going to sit here and talk about how they need to throw it up to him. They need to throw them to jump balls. Is it contested catch receiver is six foot three months of skill set. But when you're a quarterback and you see a Defender all over your guy, it's really hard to pull the trigger on that throw. Right? Like you're you're really trusting the receiver to at least put up an interception but even come down with it. So there's just higher percentage. Throws Elsewhere on the field that you would like to throw the football too. And that's where these quarterbacks end up. Going. You mentioned it briefly there when you were talking about nikhil, you played thirty-six snaps last night, which was the most out of any wide receiver on the Patriots and your position. It was just two linemen ahead of him. That was yeah. So so what do we make of that? Is because on the one hand, if they're truly showcasing him, then you're saying to the QB is guys, push it in the Keel, right? Like if you're sitting here and you're and you're truly trying to show off. And other teams to inflate his trade value, your telling cam, you're telling Mac, throw it up to nikhil, right?.

"Yeah. We really didn't see that a ton last year outside of that goal-line package where it was shotgun empty backfield, but everybody, you know, it's like four tight ends V Titans. They're all bunched in that shotgun five wide. That was there. You know that, that that was there. What do they call it in wrestling? They're finishing move. During the Glory Days is they would spread that whole thing out in the defense basically had to pick their poison. They weren't doing that with Cam Newton last year. They didn't do it in Cam's, few snaps, in the game last night. I think I count need for instances where they went five-wide empty backfield with Mac Jones. If you're a Patriots fan and you want something solid, not just hearsay. Oh, he looked good. You want something solid to hang your hat on with Mac Jones. It looks like they like him enough to bring back that five wide in bringing back that five wide. It's going to be a great tool with the offense. So there's your, if you want to talk about the Mac package that to me is the one instance, those four or five snaps. Were you look at that? And you say oh hell yeah, we're back. This offense is back or it's on the way back, right? The empty formation stuff with a cam was more designed to run the football, right? They would motion James right out of the backfield send him out wide and by emptying the backfield and expanded the the defense and had led the two favorable boxes for the wage. Curious to run on and because cam could run the football basically as a running back. They could play 6 on 5 in the box with Cam being the runner. So that was basically what happened was last year when they went empty was they were going empty to run cubie draw or quv power, right? And having a scam as the design Runner. They weren't running empty to throw the football like they were last night with Mac joke..

"Alongside me as always 98.5 is Alex, Barth. We're going to sit here for about an hour with you guys and breakdown Patriots Washington from last night. As you can see, I'm twenty-two thirteen victory for the Patriots. But obviously, in these preseason games, Alex. It's not really too much about the final score. It's, it's always fun to get the win, but it's not necessarily about the final score. It's sort of the process, over the results here and I thought last night, all things considered. This was a pretty chalked game for the Patriots. I sort of feel like the song is played, when we expected them to play, where they, we expected them to play outside of maybe some exceptions on the defensive line, if we're going to get to here in a bit, but for the most part, it was kind of a job. For Bill Belichick in the Patriots and we didn't get too many curveballs. Like, you know, Matt Jones obviously didn't start over Cam Newton or, you know, whatever the case maybe write a wide range of playing over Jacoby Myers or something crazy like that, right? Yeah. No, I would like to point out. I absolutely nailed the quarterback situation when my Verizon up on the back. Go ahead. What was it on Tuesday that we do honor, where we on Wednesday, that it would be came to him for a Sears or to Mac Jones from the end of the first through Midway, through the third and then Hoyer. That's exactly what we saw. I think that that was the right usage of like to see Mac Jones a little bit more with the presumptive starters. But ultimately, yeah, I think that, you know, normally you walk away from this game, this first preseason game and you're talking about, well, okay, they took it out because this that stood out because that like you said, there's some minor stuff on the in the defensive front besides that. I don't know. That there was anything that jumped out is like, okay and needed totally Rejects. Expectations. Because this happened. I thought it was a little bit different honestly. Usually, with Bill Belichick. We got a few more curveballs. Maybe he's showing us something out of training camp. That's really kind of look over here, but we're actually looking over there as a coaching staff. Maybe that's the case with a thing. Like Akeem Spence, vs. Henry Anderson, right? The team obviously. Starting Akeem Spence yesterday. I have some theories as to why he came spend started and played so much in the beginning of the game that we can get to. But we gotta start with the quarterbacks. And before we get into Mac Jones, which is really the meat of this discussion page there, anything at all that you took away one way or another. In a major way from Cam Newton's seven passes last night because I sort of throw out that that game last night for Cam and kind of say I'm going to lean on the two training, two weeks of training cap leaned on his experience. And what we've seen throughout his career and I don't really put much stock into anything. We saw at a cam last night. Yeah. He had one. Nice girl. Jacoby Myers, I thought the ball placement, that's not quite a thorough. He was making last year. He had another throw on the screen pass to James White, where they were just out of sync. James White said, after the game that that that was Chase. Young kind of blowing up the play as chasing intends to do, as we saw last night. He's quite the player. So yeah, I, you know, I'm not going to say I'm higher or lower on Cam Newton today and that's not a bad thing. It's just you don't have enough of a sample size to make any judgment..

"White folks are so used to their privilege that when they don't get something that they want it's gotta be because of quotas or affirmative action all that bullshit. He can't just be because this person's better than me. That's one of the great things about sports. Lebron james is the biggest guy is the best show in tally. Had been for the last eight ten years and nothing to do with him. Being black lebron james the basketball player in the world. Because he's black. He's the best basketball player in the world. Because he dan fucking and is not coming around the bend to take that title away from for the last few years. Ecorse yokich and everything but for the most part for this era of basketball for his generation of basketball. Lebron james has been the best basketball player not because the color of his skin but because of his skills. So it's amazing to me. That's why. I love sports so much. Because you can't put it into your bullshit. The white folks sometimes throw on your when black folks are. The best is something. Well it's just because he's black and you know how did those same won't be no white folks play basketball at the reason why lebron ages has to be the best basketball player. Whatever try not to get into the minds of ignorant racist. Fools that populating permeate this world that we live in but you know when you rachel nichols talking about well. They took the show away from me is mind that that the other i think for her. It's coming from ego. I don't know if it's So much i think what she said it terms maria taylor being black. I think that goes with it. But i also think that far the privilege is concerned only with rachel nichols being white but also because he's had the status you experience and she's just feels that she's better at her job. The maria taylor the fact that she happens to be black. T. through that in there. Do i think that Rachel nichols is a stark raving racist. No do i think that rachel nichols hate black people. Do i think the rachel nichols field. That white people ausra perio- over black people know don't don't think that at all. Don't think that at all. But the fact that she said what she said and then the face any type of repercussions. It just goes to show the double standard. That happens in a lotta situations. That black folks can speak to time in time in time in time and time and time again when they are working at their place of employment especially when it is populated. Mostly by by white folks. So we we will. We will see what happens. The one thing that. I'm a little bit concerned about with this. Whole whole deal with maria taylor. "Blows them out. I think this is going to be a six or seven game series. And i think it's going to be a situation where both teams are going to be extremely strong on their home. Court phoenix has been playing well on the road but still i think that the bucks even if they lose game to the urgency that they'll face down to oh the urgency that the crowd is gonna face their home. Crowd is going to be realizing for them down to show. That place is going to be a mad house either way that you look at. It is going to be the the the fighter center in milwaukee. It's going to be going nuts either because the series is going to be tied one to one that we have a chance to take command of the series or take a two one series lead. "He waited a long time to make his NBA Finals debut, and he delivers 32 points, nine assists. The Sons take game 11 18 15 over Milwaukee. Game one goes to the Phoenix Suns, as mentioned, mainly because of our next guest B and our group of friends. We are temporary Suns fans, although I'm wrestling with the whole Chris Paul thing, so I need to bring John on to talk that out a little bit. Mark Willington for pop and lock John Bloom sons broadcaster. One of my closest friends in life joins us now. Are you going to get a ring? Have we gotten an answer on that yet? I don't know. Well, no confirmation on the ju. I'm not much of a jewelry guy anyway. It would be nice, you know, but display it or just to know that I'm thought of as a member of the team, but that is definitely not first and foremost in my mind, I will say this. The sons have their first ever lead in an NBA finals. They've been there twice before in 76 93 never had a lead in either of those two sherries. Now they have a lead. The San Francisco Giants still have the best winning percentage in all of Major League baseball. Life is good, my man. I love hearing that. And if you don't wear your ring to our fantasy football draft, I will take that as a personal insult. I just want to let you know that right now, Fair enough. I think that should happen. I'm going to start visualizing that right now, and it's going to be quite an entrance that I'll make with that. No, no doubt. Hey, I want to put the NBA Finals aside for like 30 seconds, so you can weigh in on something that I've been ranting about all morning. What are your thoughts about the wave at a baseball game? Hate it. Always half never should be involved in any kind of fan experience, unless it is an absolute blowout. And there is nothing else to keep the young kids excited about being wherever they happen to be watching a sporting event that goes for every sport. I have never loved the fact that people are paying more attention to when to stand up and wave their arms as opposed to what the players are doing on the field. But there is a time and a place and it's usually in a blowout, and we had one earlier this season that took place in Phoenix with the sons running away with it, and the fans did the wave and they enjoyed it. It still wasn't my favorite part of the game. That's now That's what that's that's how you grow up on the peninsula. Ladies and gentlemen, that's exactly how you do it. Have been getting texts all day, mostly in agreement, but a lot of people. What about the kids? What about like someone just asked me. Do you actually go to a baseball game and you're able to be focusing on every single pitch that's thrown. I'm like Yeah. Yeah. Yes, The answer is yes. Yeah. Is that not how you do it To be? Yeah. I mean, if you've got a winning baseball team, and you've got a team that you're completely locked into, then yes, it does. If you can pull that off, but, you know, you've been around losing baseball teams, and sometimes you got to get creative with what you do in the stands. We did it back his teenagers Candlestick Park over. The one thing we didn't do was the way you had to go across the bait to do a little bit of waving. Remember A's fans enjoying And maybe that's part of the reason why I'm against it. Yes. John Bloom, sons, broadcaster and good sports fan joining us right here on the sports leader. All right. I need to talk this out for a second and maybe Bay Area sports fans. Maybe they're rooting for ya. Honest right now. I mean, because of you, I'm rooting for the sons, but I'm having a hardest time with the Chris Paul Love fest. It feels really odd to me like he's somebody who has been a little bit of a divisive figure in NBA circles for a long time. Teammates have not liked him. He's been a problem. We haven't loved him in the bay because of his time with the Rockets. He's a flop artist. And now all of a sudden there's like, Oh, my gosh, This is so great for Chris Paul. After all these years that this is finally happening. I'm like This is weird. So I need you to coach me through this on help me find something positive here, so that so that I can I can wrap my head around finals M v p. Chris Paul Well, I think it's it's a pretty simple message that I can give you, which is just, you know, that's that's one piece of the puzzle here in Phoenix. That's making the Suns team so successful, obviously is a very important piece and even got you know enough votes to finish. Uh, you know, fits in the M V P voting, so clearly he had an amazing cheese, and I remember talking to you about this when they made the trade. And you know, we were discussing how it was going to be tough for you to to rally behind what what the sons were doing because of CP three and I get it. I mean, look, I don't expect any warriors fans to have a lot of love for that guy. But I think that basketball fans in general have a lot of respect for his career, his accomplishments and the fact that he did all of that without ever getting to an NBA finals until year 16 and something that's even more remarkable is that the way he's taking care of his body the way he's able to continue to play at the High level, including 73 points in the last two games, had that 41 point performance to close out. The Clippers followed it up with 32 last night. That's the most points he's ever had in two games back to back in his career. It's unbelievable that he saved to this stage to be able to pull that up. But it's not just about Chris Paul when it comes to the Phoenix Suns. First and foremost, it's about Monty Williams, the head coach, and the culture that he put in when he got here before last season, started and remember last season. The Sun's weren't expected to do anything. They didn't really do anything until they got to the bubble, And then they ran the table, won all eight games and still came up short of the playoffs. But the culture was already established, and that's what made Chris Paul wants to join Devin Booker and play for his old coach, Monty Williams. They played the Earth He played form 10 years ago in New Orleans wanted to re indict that, and it is special seeing the bond that has formed with this basketball team. The thing I'll tell you that's easy to root for. Is when you see a team playing true team basketball, and will I know you have love for that, because I know you have love for this game, and you've played hoops made more than I have in in our lives, and it means a lot to you. So I think when you see a team really clicking playing team basketball, it is fun to watch. The sons have hit that right now, the rolling hot and they feel very confident, even though they know it's only one game last night, and they've got to be ready because the bucks are going to throw everything at him again. In Game two tomorrow, John. I wonder if you already knew this. This is breaking news as far as the rest of us are concerned over the last five minutes, But Dario sorry it's torn right. A C L So obviously not just gone for the rest of this series is probably going to miss next season as well. What's What's your reaction to this? It's horrible for Dario and we felt, you know, like that might have been the case last night in the broadcast Sweet after watching the replay and talking to tent camped in our color analyst on the radio broadcast, he felt like it looked like, you know, non contact A C l injury right away. So, uh, I didn't hear it. Now You're breaking that to me and you know, I feel bad for the guy. He's a phenomenal teammates. He definitely is a necessary piece to the Phoenix Suns team has been all season as a big body, and they don't have a ton of big bodies. So now the onus falls on maybe a Frank Kaminsky getting a chance to play against the team. Obviously in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was a star for Wisconsin back in the day in college, and they'll maybe get a chance to go back and play there. Little bit, but I think it's going to be a combination of factors. Cameron Johnson is playing fantastic, which he had a great game last night after having food poisoning in Game six. He had to miss the close out game against the Clippers. And you could tell he came out with a fury last night, and then they have a little X factor. And Tory Craig, who played half the season for the Milwaukee Bucks before getting traded to the sons, and he's been a big part of this bench, too..

Tory Craig Mark Willington Monty Williams Devin Booker Frank Kaminsky Cameron Johnson 32 points Phoenix Chris Paul Phoenix Suns Dario John 30 seconds John Bloom 73 points Bay Area Milwaukee Bucks nine assists 41 point New Orleans
