"Because we are socially isolating. Gallagher recorded herself on an excellent microphone and I recorded myself at home with an excellent microphone, but my microphone failed. Such are the challenges of making a podcast during a pandemic fortunately. I had an iphone backup going so the show will go on, but that explains why I won't sound quite like myself. In any case I opened my conversation with Catherine Gallagher by remarking on her passion for. BAGELS. AM their favorite food. They always have been. Made my first batch of bagels last. We are no maybe now a couple of weeks ago. I. I love Bagels. They're like my favorite thing. You make. The. I love them that much. I realized that up in Connecticut. There's the bakeries are an open like it's GonNa. Be Hard to find a good bit. So you know, I'm not saying like I'm a professional bagel maker. I wouldn't go so far as to say that at all. There are real pros, but I figured maybe a freshly baked amateur bagel would would do justice to my cravings and I was so right it was. So good like I've never had a big just like fresh out of the oven, and it was like I, ordered the barley malt like I did it up. The whole thing so God and then I made my own vegan cream cheese, and it would just. It was really special. I earth another fun fact about you. When I was occurring for our show today, I understand that you were the only girl at your summer camp. That could dig up earthworms. How did you develop that talent? Well, you see I. It's so funny because I've been building all these gardens in my yard since this thing started, and it's been the first time since I was like eight. That I've been playing with earthworms, but all the other girls were too afraid of them, but my dad used to take me fishing all the time, and so I would dig for earthworms until I. I always knew where like the good soil was to find the earthworms and I thought that would make a hot object like for all the for all the kids get what hot girl like I don't know my brain. I was like this makes me a desirable partner that I can find the good earthworms and she did it at all. I was just a weird girl. Earthworms were. Ivory and I was like this is a this is a bankable skill, but I always knew where they were so whenever anyone wanted to go fishing. I was like yeah. I'll get your earthworms so hell. Are you doing over there in Connecticut? There's lots of earthworms, so that's a good sign. It's great soil. You know I'm doing alright. I I definitely. When this started I needed a break when like there? The the weaker so leading up to this I in the show I was so exhausted. I was so. I mean that role emotionally is intense. And I was just like one foot in front of the other, so the first week I was like this is incredible. I've needed this break so badly I'd been working so hard at nonstop circle of press in working and in the studio during the day doing the show at night, and like I love to work, but I definitely pushed it. And so the first week I was just really. A setup this Mike and I started recording and I started writing and I was really coming back to myself, and and dealing with a few things emotionally that I didn't have space for during the show, and just kind of like talk in my parents every day, I was close. I'm closer with my friends. Now that I have been because I, haven't had time to talk to them or the vocal. Energy to talk to them after show and I think now I'm definitely getting to the point where you know, my heart is breaking a little bit for. It's so rare that you you you know and I. I understand that global implications of this are so large, but. We've been working on jagged little pill for three years, and so it's like Oh. Wow, you know what if I don't ever get to do this again? But when I think about how devastating, this has been many people and in the grand scheme of things I'm pretty lucky. You're staying in the House that you lived in since you were two years old I understand. You're going through a lot of your old journals. What is that been like is? What is it like reuniting with your former self through your journals? I will say Oh had a very vivid imagination. Say. I would say I. Haven't changed at all, my God. It's been there was one journal in particular I found where it says. Something along the lines of. I don't think I'm A. MERMAID Find. Creature. I have magical powers think that was. Are you. Nest logically. No! Swimming that much, it was just one summer where we have broke right outside the house and I would just like. Sit in the broke, and like look under rocks for Salamanders like I'd like three pet salamanders like I just a weird kid was a lonely weird kid. The daughter of Paula Harwood and the will known actor Peter Gallagher your other, the granddaughter of Polit Horror would be longtime owner and dance teacher at Paulette's belly studio, so you come from a long line of artists. I do indeed. Do. Very much the family business. Catherine Your Dad was in the Broadway playing noises off in two thousand one and you grew up playing with Co Star Patti, lupone son Josh Johnson and I. Read that you would run around the Cooks Atkinson. Kingston, theater like it was a playground and got to nearly all of the crew and the Doorman Did you sense it has special? That was at the time. Honestly. It's so bizarre because when you're a kid. You always want where you don't have and so to me. There was nothing cooler than my friends. WHO's had their last name on pencils from their DADS offices like I thought that was the the peak of success and the coolest thing, and so for me I don't think I, really had any idea that what I was experiencing was different or strange, and I certainly had no idea that being an actor was something that for a lot of people. Seemed like a strange possibility And so I think it was very much like it just felt very much like home. If I like Oh, yeah, does your dad not powder his nose before he goes on stage in front of twelve hundred people every night. It. Was Oh. It was so what I was used to and that and like being on set, and all these things I it was the most. Normal work environment that I knew the idea of going to an office I was like that's fancy. They wouldn't even let me in. He's. Always project out what we don't have. Honestly you focused on music. I and began learning how to play the guitar when you were eight years old. Why did you choose music over theater at that time? I think I'm sure there are some level of it. That was like you know I'm not my dad. That's my dad's job and I'm going to do something different, and then I think there's also you know at my core. My favorite thing to do has always been. Like I've been making up songs since I was like two years old, my mom would be like in the front seat of the car and said like okay Catharine like make up a song about a bus. And so I've been making up songs, my whole life, and that to me seems like the easiest and most Cathartic way to understand the world around me or anything I'm going through, and so when I started playing guitar. You know growing up by idolized. Melissa Etheridge idolized. idolize all these women rob, and I think my mom. Also. She saw this sort of numbers..

"Gallagher Twenty-three past the hour. It's great having you here on the Mike Gallagher show for a Wednesday. We gotta get back to basics. And that to me is sorta my theme mantras, we see these shocking headlines, and we recognize what we're up against in America. Let's start with Mary. Hey, Mary, welcome. I'm great. Thanks. Mike. I gotta tell you. Thank you very much for talking about this issue of abortion. I do not know the pastors speak out people speak out. But it's not getting enough done. We need we need a whole national movement. I'm a Catholic. I don't know where the US bishops are. I don't know why they're not getting everyone in the state of New York out. You talk about Virginia. It's just gotta be spoken about we have that. We have to address it Mary. And that's why I decided to spend time on it today because if we ignore this, let's look at the history of this country Roe versus Wade legalized abortion. Now states are beginning to legalize abortion up to the moment of birth. Forget having the argument that we used to have decades ago about when does life begin I happen to believe is a Christian and as as an individual as a man, and I I'm allowed to have an appeal. Union that life begins at conception. That's my belief. I can understand debate about it. If people want to say that it one week two weeks three weeks, it's not a life. I understand the debate. I disagree. But I understand how anyone could understand that an eight month three week old baby in the womb is fair game to be slaughtered. That's not abortion. That's not a medical procedure. That is murder we're talking infanticide and how in the world how in the world. Do you sit around and try to deny that you can't? So Mary for me. It's going back to the basics. It's going back to the basics of God. It's going back to the basics of knowing what our country was the principles our country was founded on its acknowledging that we are Judeo Christian nation. The left hates it. The left doesn't like it leftist hate the idea. Here's a give me give you a great. A great example. Here's a text message from somebody in the Orlando area. I'm going to be in Orlando a week from Saturday for their big freedom summit. I can't wait be listening to six sixty W W R L in in in Orlando for details. But here's here's an Orlando listener who writes in this is a leftist, so listen carefully to why they're excited. Your concern is what gives me hope clearly we are progressing as a country. If you are so upset let me break down. God doesn't exist. Please. Grow up. Religion has no place in our government making anyone say so help me God in an oath is kind of silly. When it means nothing to so many of us, and yes, Alexandria, Cossio Cortez is correct. With the when she says that ice is immoral the American Gestapo needs to be abolished now this leftist in Orlando feels emboldened by the by the victory. The Democrats have been cheating lately. That's why. Why we have a fighter in the White House to fight that kind of mindset to fight that kind of minority out of touch radical hatred for this country because there are even though this this person is in the minority and unconvinced to that. And.

I think he's tapping out on money because he's trying to get his brother to stop doing him problem in the family. Sure. No. And I think there was some sort of I don't I really don't know. But I think there was some legal things around what the brother couldn't couldn't smash which hypothetically. Yeah, you do gored. And that's clearly this watermelon. The brother did a melon and that was fucking it. An avocado is a fruit. I know vegetable. But if you go. Okay. So okay. Then worse Gallagher brothers wants from away SIS or the Gallagher Gallagher. Just some weird knoll, and what's the other one? Liam like, just the cosmic shitty brothers Gallagher comedy Gallagher's or rock and roll Gallagher's. Who'd you rather spend a weekend with in a cabin with no cable. That's the choice. I'll take the rock guys. Because. They they might get physical with you like they there's punches being thrown. I mean, they're out of control, right? Lost my number one favorite bands. Of course, the rock and roll guys. Right. Gallagher. The who's paranoid and totally nuts. Like, he's more of a harm it. All right. I'll tell you Gallagher rock and roll brothers is that eventually they'd get drunk and fall asleep and shut up. I think that the clown. Whatever never stop ain't gonna stop talking about Peter Gallagher. It. You could do worse. I'll tell you all tell you the. But does he have a brother? The thing is it's gotta be my weird being the highest grossing comedian of the eighties to who who gives a shit. Hey old man with the weird clan hair. Get off the stage. It's gotta be weird to think that to try and live with yourself that that was choice you made like he's obviously jealous. Ajay Leno jealous of people that have sustained a career in comedy. And his argument is like I had to go out and sell tickets, right? Where they'd stay in town and not sell tickets in order to do what they wanted to do. They took a risk to become what they became. He was he was a kind of guy that said, I got this figured out if I wear the stupid hat and breaks shit, I'm gonna make money and Phil places up. He didn't think in terms of the big picture. I mean, I think part of him thinks whereas my talk show, Mike how the fuck you're gonna have a talk show. What are you gonna sit there with the hammered ask questions right on break things and go what do you think about this, right? Bad for the guests. Too. Because it's like they'd come in and go. Gallagher's first name that he doesn't have. Brought my new CD sledge Matic. Got a new book coming out. Just let you everyone who brought them out there. I got it wardrobe meet this guy that was working an angle he saw way in and he took it in any went the path. He went. I mean, I got nothing bittermann. You're like me in that. I mean, here's Leo is first name. So we so we found out. I didn't call him that you've you're you're like me, I think like to think so someone when people say, you know, they when people feel bad for let's say cast members from the Brady bunch or the Partridge family. Yeah. Something like that they go, you know, oh this poor person. They worked and they made money. But now they haven't worked, and they can't work, and my answer is always don't feel sorry for them. They should have never worked like don't feel sorry for Gallagher. He's made one hundred million dollars. And he ain't that funny right there. Plenty of funny people. Marins funnier and Gallagher and Marc Maron is not made one hundred million dollars. Right. So you can feel sorry for Gallagher all you want. And it is a pathetic shell of a man on the other hand, he's made it least one hundred million dollars over his career and somewhat say that's ninety nine million dollars too much. And I I've never thought about it quite that way. But now, I think you're right. Fuck gallagher. Wait a minute. The name I knew moving. Guy co everybody. That's.

"Gallagher. I told you this is going to happen. I told you we got closer to the midterm election. We would start seeing a media prediction of a an alarming. I. Raising the polls. The polls are showing that the Senate races are up for grabs. The polls are showing that the Democrats are going to take control of the house of representatives. The polls are coming in. And they're not good for the Republicans. Now, we talked about this three four weeks ago. Remember, remember, we talked about get ready for the the media meltdown? Well, guess what? It's happening. It's happening right now, I'm looking at the headline over here. Republicans Senate majority in jeopardy tight races raise alarm. Prime example, Texas Senator Ted Cruz a former presidential candidate who's now fighting to hold onto his seat. We've got a fight on our hands. He said. The extreme left. They're angry. They're energized. And they are filled with hatred money has poured in to Texas. To benefit his challenger. Young man named Bego a rock. All right. Well, let let me just start before we get into hurricane Florence. And obviously, it's a huge huge weather event that impacts millions of people many of whom are listening to me right now. And incidentally, we welcome. You already got a ton of people on the stream watched the show will be Skyping with Skype with a movie star. And Billy Graham's grandson later this hour. You definitely want to be at Mike online dot com and click on the watch Mike on TV button. So you can see will Graham who plays Billy Graham in the new movie unbroken path to redemption, which opens everywhere. Tomorrow. And again, we'll is the grandson of the Billy Graham, the oldest son of Franklin Graham, we'll talk to will about this extraordinary movie unbroken path to redemption that's a little bit later this hour. We'll talk about hurricane Florence. But let me just get this off my chest. And I'm going to remind you of this a lot. Okay. A lot many times. You pay as much attention to the polls as you paid attention to them in November of two thousand sixteen. That's how much you should pay attention to the polls you should give the polls as much credibility as you gave them in November of two thousand sixteen. The mainstream media would love nothing better than to see Democrats. Take control the house and the Senate. Of course, angry leftist and Senator Cruz is right. The left is filled with hatred. The left is filled with contempt. They are. They are just just it's bile coming out there. They're furious. They're livid there. I know you didn't hear much about it except on this show. The guy that tried to stab to death a Republican candidate for congress in California while he was screaming epithets against Donald Trump. Now, the other shoe was on the other foot somebody was screaming anti Obama epithets while tried to stab a democrat to death. It's all we would have heard about if Democrats had been shot on a baseball field. We'd still be talking about it in the mainstream media would still be a rallying cry for people get angry liberal leftist who goes hunting Republican congressman at a baseball field in Virginia couple weeks. We'll get we'll get past that. No real political component to see here. The left is angry the left can be violent and the left wants desperately to stop Donald Trump. Only you can keep that from happening. Don't pay any attention to these polls ignore the media hype. Even and I'm reading the story here, Fox, News dot com. Even Fox News dot com is joining in the hype Republican Senate majority of jeopardy tight razors raise alarm reports. Mike Emanuel from Fox News. Oh, really? Well, we'll see we'll see because that's what you told us right up to election night, November of two thousand sixteen. That's what you're told us. Exactly, what was going to happen that Hillary Clinton was for sure for certain the next president of the United States. Listen, this is like Lucian Charlie Brown with the football media's tried to do it. Again. Don't let them don't let them we need to kick the football through the uprights. We've got to keep the house. We got to keep the Senate. And we gotta keep the Trump agenda moving because extraordinarily great things are happening in this country. The media doesn't want you to hear about it. They don't want to talk about it. They don't wanna talk about the booming economy. They wanna talk about Trump doing a fist pump at nine eleven ceremony. They don't want to talk about record low unemployment. They wanna talk about. Bob Woodward's book. They don't want to talk about extraordinary consumer confidence and small business confidence and historic levels of success for small business owners right now in America extraordinary middle-class success highest median income right now for middle for the middle class in history. Sixty something thousand dollars a year is the median income. Want to talk about that? That'd be huge story under Barack Obama certainly would be a huge story under Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump not so much. They'd rather talk about stormy Daniels. They'd rather talk about anonymous. They'd rather talk about listen. I gotta have faith, and I do have faith. I in you faith in the American people. I have faith that we're going to get this, right? That we are not gonna let Democrats up in. What has been happening? We're not going to give them the satisfaction of taking away our tax cuts and taking money out of our pockets, which is what they have promised. They would do I've got faith. I really really have faith. Our number's eight hundred six five five Mike got a lot to cover. I want to play for you beta Aurora for just a moment last night on Stephen Colbert show, you want to know the takeaway moment from beta aerobic, Ted Cruz is challenger in the state of Texas. We don't need a wall. Ask yourself. Do. You know about Texas. Are you in Texas? Ask yourself this question. How does the message? We don't need a wall play in Texas. How do you think the message? We don't need a wall plays in the state of Texas. I lived there. I know. Let's see if you do as well. Our number's eight hundred six five five Mike is we welcome you in the relief factor dot com studios. We got hurricane Florence. I'm going to give you an update next. It's a category two. But don't be fooled by that that doesn't mean anything when it comes to the lingering nature of this storm, and how much rain is going to be dumped on the Carolinas. Now northern parts of Georgia, Maryland, we are watching it closely. We want to check in with meteorologist job is starting catching up date. Also little bit later this hour. I'm going to interview will Graham, Billy Graham's grandson who plays Billy Graham in the new movie unbroken, and that'll be on Skype. You're to want to join us at Mike online dot com.
