"It's merriam Webster's word of the day for March 14th. Today's word is gallivant, spelled G ALL IVA gallivant is a verb. It means to go or travel to many different places for pleasure. Here's the word used in a sentence from vulture by Jen chaney. Under normal circumstances, most of us can't drop what we're doing with zero notice. By a last minute airplane ticket and just show up to gallivant across the country with someone we're attracted to without telling anyone where we are. Back in the 14th century, gallant a noun borrowed from the French word galan referred to a fashionable young man. By the middle of the next century it was being used more specifically to refer to such a man who was attentive to and had a fondness for the company of women. In the late 17th century this lady's man sense gave rise to the verb galant, to describe the process a suitor used to win a lady's heart, and galante became synonymous with courting. It's this verb gallant that is the likely source of gallivant, which originally meant to act as a gallant or to go about usually ostentatiously or indiscreetly with members of the opposite sex. Today, however, gallivant is more likely to describe pleasurable wandering than romancing. With your word of the day, I'm Peter sokolovsky. "And he warned the shutdown of back Page and Craigslist decision to end its personals would just lead to similar sites popping up in back pages Wake. That's not necessarily what happened, but there is one Friend growing more popular by the day that is considered a big threat to kids, sugaring sugar. It is a concept where you are essentially signing up for some sort of relationship or construct where you have a sugar baby and sugar Daddy and the sugar Daddy is the one with the resource is in the power in the privilege. And they give things of value, which could be a trip or a dinner or cash or clothing or jewelry, whatever it is to the sugar baby in exchange for something, King County senior deputy prosecuting attorney Ben Galan says. Many times that's just companionship. Talking. Hanging out. Things like that problem, though, is when companionship and that sort of boundary gets extended and pushed. And then you have expectations of sex that can lead to batteries being pushed even more and mutuality has lost, and there's something that's non consensual. That's not the only concern. There's a lot of survivors who I work with who have somehow been affected or involved with sugaring. And really, it's a new frontier of exploitation. It's marketed in a way where you're trying, Tonto. Sanitized the harms of exploitation of prostitution and the package in a way where folks think they're avoiding legal liability when in fact, this is still exploitation. That's just got a creative marketing lingo to it, Galan says. It's definitely caught on in recent years. We've certainly seen not only an increase in cases but an increase in the sugaring narrative online. I mean, if you Google it, you'll find mainstream journalists and publications talking about sugaring and not really delving into the Through dangers and consequences that this Construct can create. While many so called sugar babies are college aged. Many others are high schoolers, not 18. And really, it can create a very toxic construct. And so miners are looking at this as a way to get a cell phone or a Vape pen or Trip to the mall with the credit card, and so they're Googling it. They're scenic being glamorized. Maybe some of their friends are doing it. And so they're giving it a try. Here's what he means. And so what does he mean? Exactly? Hannah humans aspire, assuring goes, there's the Web sites. There are a lot of these websites. I did a lot of research for the story. They're They're really everywhere, and they're not really as blatant as kind of some of the ads that you saw with back page, right? Where it's you know this person seeking this this type of thing, and it's A lot of college age girls started to do this kind of thing to loot kind of get more lavish gifts and things like that it was seen or even pay for school. Some of the some of the conversations that go back and forth online or about getting getting help with your student debt right and it doesn't necessarily say that there's going to be a sexual relationship, but the belief is at least on the part of law enforcement and Again with some of the former sugar babies that I talked to you that that's kind of given that that's what ends up happening. But you talk to these young women and what I mean what was happen where it was possesses someone T take any offer completely unknown person like that. If you would be so surprised. I'll tell you the truth. I actually talked. I brought this up to a friend of mine who, when I started working on this story, and she told me that I think it was 10. Years ago, she was in high school. She said that she had a friend who was doing this very thing that she was very familiar with sugaring and knew what knew had heard of all about it because girls in her high school did it. Wasn't around. When I was in high school on by. I did talk to a former sugar. Maybe we're gonna have her on tomorrow. So be able to delve into that more with you, but it's it runs the gamut. There are some people who are. It's kind of your typical. Maybe they're in the homeless situation, and they need that kind of taking care of. But also if you think this isn't your kid Is absolutely could be anyone's kid. That's what the prosecutors told me and the former sugar baby that you know it could be. It's girls who just have a regular life who wants some nicer things, And there's not a lot of jobs available for people that are 16 years old and 17 years old to get the kind of nice things they want. So they see. This is You know a good path because sex is desensitized for many in the current, you know, Younger generation? Yeah. All right. So how do they approach? How are the investigations approaching this? And is this something that comes? This is homegrown. Sugaring stuff, Or is it done by what overseas? Send the kids? I mean, how does it work? I think there's both but definitely definitely homegrown. The reason that this story actually came to me was because our King County prosecutor partnered with a look nonprofit called Stolen Youth that fights against sex trafficking for underage girls sex trafficking altogether. And then a company that's here in gentle called D n A. And what they did was create an algorithm to help combat sugaring. What it does is recognizes phrases or propositions on social media. To try to interrupt the process before you even get really in the criminal justice system. Their tool categories is the language in four different areas. They look for potential victims, victims exploiters and then just kind of general media and then the body recognizes the language. On whatever platform that could be Twitter or whatever social media and then sends a message automatically to that person who posted the message. So, for instance, one example is the message would say, Did you know that? Patronizing a person for sexual conduct is a crime in the state of Washington..

He put pressure to ask you applied the same pressure on David Galan that you did on Vince Leech, right? And apparently, it's working. Right. This state Senator David Galan. I mean, again, the most important things that are out there or what they cleaning up the voting and ending the emergency order in the math, like getting life back. And there's a resolution. We've talked about it, Michelle you gente Readers resolution scr 1001 that would end the And this deuce of her emergency order. Passed through her committee in the state Senate now goes to his committee of Appropriations. And for some reason this David Galan didn't schedule it for this for today. Scheduled 13 things that aren't this You could see the whole list on my page a canister dot com. I put it up on Thursday night or I believe was or what it will. You know, it's there. You can see it. I mean, some of the things look. Summer are somewhat but they're not nearly supporters. What's going on right now. I'll tell you that. Okay? Um, what it was like off road vehicle highway funds or something. Wait, So you're worried about that? So anyway, I asked you to call the guy and you could get all the information on my page. A canister calm and ah friend of mine. Don't wanna see who it is apparently texted him. Early this morning. Um, early early this morning. And, uh and I got a screen shot of the text. On. She basically asked him Why you not scheduling this resolution and deuces emergency order and why you're not supporting it basically. And he responded back. Where you hearing this. I actually have it on my agenda for next Tuesday, which by the way, hasn't been published yet. So my friend said, Anyway, where she heard it. You're welcome. And all this stuff and the response From him was I would not Io. Okay, that they said he said, you know, I you know, I have it on my agenda, blah, blah, blah. So I ask this person Can you please contact texting again and say, do you? That's nice. He gave me this. But do you actually support it? Will you bring it up? And will you support it? This resident ending the emergency order, and his response was yes. I would not put up a bill in committee without supporting it. So it's like we gotta pull the teeth from these people. He's a state Senator David County to see all the information on my page a canister dot com And the reason they're doing this by the way, and they just think they can get away with this stuff, and they give, you know gobbledygook answers that just drone on and don't answer the questions. And I'm telling you, I can't thank you enough. And I hope you realize the power that you have, and you can get drunk with it. Honest to God. You can get drunk with this power, but don't do it for the right reasons, right? Will be Darth Vader be Luke Skywalker. No, it won't be dark Vader. Instead. I know he's kind of a bad ass. I get it. I get it, but for this purpose to do it for the right reason. Okay, stop trying to choke me out. Ryan's not gonna work. You're not Darth Vader. So I'm kidding. So, uh harder. Daddy s so you You called him up and then you call him out so much that this guy had to admit that it was, you know, not on there, and then he's eventually gonna support it, And that's just awesome. That is awesome. I can't thank you enough again, and it's all like you're being bad like this is what you want done, And these people are your representatives. And you must pressure them and tell them they'll be out of the job. If they don't do the right thing. It's a simple is that They've never felt this pressure. Vince Leech, David Galan. And now they are for whatever reason was holding it up. Maybe was trying to get a deal from do, sir. For I don't know the horse trade a lot. We got to get them on record saying they supported and apparently now David Galan will but still continue to call him and thank him for supporting it. Make sure that he remembers to support it the right way. Apparently. Now. There's one more State senator named David Livingston. Apparently is the deciding vote. He's a Republican..

You know, I got to tell you I I've been involved in the regulation of gambling. Spend my day job for a number of years, various types of gambling. Casinos. Any type of game horse racing dog, right? I mean, you name it. I've been involved with it. Uh, This concept of shorting stocks. You may That's not investing that's gambling. And what happened with this game stun. Thing. WASP. These hedge fund managers. But they could make a killing on shorting. This company. And they basically got taken to the cleaners by the smaller investors, who were, uh Ended up buying the stock and the stock price went up. They they thought it was going to go down and they lost. Billions. Now, Wall Street is like, Whoa, they pretty much people did the same thing to the Wall Street what Wall Street's been doing to people and the idea that Wall Street would pretty much go out and kill off a company that Z You know, it's a tough business. It's like politics. That financial business is business is tough Wall Street stuff. But the real clear thing is now only politicians. Maybe we ought to investigate this, you know. Shut that down, Bob, bother manipulation. Then we find out that Janet Yellen, our new Treasury secretary. Citadel, which is a hedge fund that belled out Melvin Capital, which was one of the hedge funds that lost billions on this Has paid Janet Yellen over $800,000 in speaking fees, and the question is, should not Janet Yellen recused herself from anything to do with this case or this issue. But of course you know the the Biden left. The Manchurian The Manchurian President. You know, the concept of that is foreign Speaking of the Manchurian President, Treasury Secretary Yellin Financial disclosure shows that she got money. Another speaking engagement. We don't know how much money yet. From a Beijing based media outlets that's tied to the Chinese Communist Party. So there's could not only do we have the president's son getting money from the Chang. China comes We've got the Treasury secretary getting money from the China comes in. I'm sure the list just keeps on growing. So if you don't like any of this, pick up the phone and call your Congress person Patrick. If you can get a live body on the phone, That's a challenge. I haven't been able to do that. Or you can send an email to, uh, 79. You can send an email to Kelly. But Kelly's Kelly's part of the Chinese conspiracy to anyway, let's go back to your phone calls 88 Okay, honesty, 88056. 78 John. Welcome to the morning ritual with Garrett Lewis. This is Ed fitting in Hey, I'm one of the unwashed. 75 million that voted for Trump. So I have a question about your is only a part of that. That's so silent Majority. You're part of the not so silent majority. Absolutely. I have been a very active Little several years now, But the question that comes down to me is when is the agenda set for a committee of the Legislature next week? Mm. Is it for a larger populace of the General Assembly? They're claiming that they can't add the other agenda item that's been discussed. That's number one part of that question. And if it is a committee or even a larger part When they have that meeting from a procedure or whatever. Yes, there, say 10 members, and I can't remember how many there are saying on that committee. And say 700 don't show up. And they still conducted The meeting and go through the agenda, just like you know, a majority or whatever be required. I really want to know that because that's another tactic that could be utilized. To impact what's going on in the Legislature, because if they're trying to force the other legislation or whatever. And they could in turn, we Could put a stop on that agenda next week and put a little bit of Ah Ah, you know, a cog in this pocket, so to speak, or or or whatever. Drive that Agenda more You understand what I'm saying? In other words, used the procedure. So here opportunity. Here's first of all. I have never worked in the Arizona Legislature, so I cannot answer specifically to the rules. But I have worked in a legislature. I worked in the U. S. Congress. I worked in the U. S. Senate and I worked in the New York state Senate for the majority leader years ago. Uh, Here's how these committee agendas work as I understand. The chairman sets the agenda. Now they may be under some type of public records notification meeting requirement that the agenda has got to be put out a certain number of days ahead of time for the public to be aware I can't speak to the specifics of that. And that might be a reason why it might not be able to be changed for Tuesday. Um I don't know. I think that's a legitimate question. When people call Senator make a Senator Galan's office as far as a Zafar Yeah, yeah, well and the other thing with these with these Arizona legislators They really don't have staffs. Which is kind of scary. You know when I worked in the New York Legislature in the New York Legislature, Obviously, it's a higher tax state. But they had researched they had researchers every legislator had, you.

"Galan, who is the chairman of the committee. Does not have on the agenda. The rollback of Governor Doozies Executive order on the cove. It And that's a problem. I mean, we need to have that seriously. Waited to have that We need to have those powers clip. That's a kind of a dictatorial power. You don't eliminate the Legislature out of something like this. And I read that whole thing that Jon Kavanaugh Put out about You know, not rolling it back. And because it would make it worse. We would let Chuck Huckleberry put put requirements on and nobody could overrule them and put Regina Romero could do the same. You know something? If that's in the state law we're talking about lawmakers change the stinking law. You've got a Republican majority in both houses of the Legislature. Be a little creative. Do a little work up there. So I would hope that Senator Gowen puts this on the agenda for the meeting. The meeting is next Tuesday, two o'clock Tuesday at two o'clock. And right now it's not on the agenda, so we need you to call Senator Galan's office at 6029265154. "Appropriations Committee, chaired by David Galan, who's a Republican senator from Father Arizona, does not have Know Garrett's been talking about. This does not have the repeal of the governor's emergency order on covered on their agenda for next week. And, uh, I don't know what's going on. David Galan. I've always thought he's a pretty good, courageous guy, but it's time for you to call him. And say, Put that on the agenda. It's scr 1001. It passed the government committee. But now it's got to come out of the Appropriations Committee and Senator Galan is that is the guy. And the chairman of those committee sets the agenda. So here's his phone number 6029265154 that 6029265154. And you know, I read that thing that Uh, Jon Kavanaugh wrote about the not supporting the repeal of the executive order because it would set the stage for mayors like Regina Romero and Chuck Huckleberry, the county administrator here and Pema to put their own restrictions on and And that and I read that and I understood what he was saying. But the thing that hit me is wait a minute. You're a law maker. You're in the majority. You can change that law. You can repeal the executive order and change the law at the same time. That's what you condo's So don't give me reasons why you can't do something because there if you're creative You can do it. Why is it the Democrats are always creative, but we just sit around to come up with ways not to do stuff. So you do need to call David Galan's office and tell him to put that repeal of the Override of Deuces Emergency order on the agenda 60292651. 54. Let's go to your phone calls. Robert. Welcome to Knsd. This is Ed Martin and forget Lewis. Good morning. Had, um I kind of just wanted a time. Bring across the point. Why or these people Wasting time and money and misdirecting energy, which could be used in a positive way and said, You're wallowing in all this negativity and pushing forward and impeachment for president who's no longer president. But I mean, it's just pure vindictiveness. You know, it's people need their heads examined. The guy you're dating allowed to do this. I mean, if you do not have somebody that can stop like, Hey, Enough is enough, You know, you know There is is there's only a couple of reasons to come to my mind. A one Maybe they're mentally ill. Number two. They are consumed by hate. Or number three. It's all the above or to them. It's like the end of the horror show to us. It was the end of a beautiful show. But for them, it's like an end of a horror show. They killed off the monster but the monsters calling out of the crawling out of the grave and coming back. I mean, these people are secular, and it's our money that they're wasting. And there are more important things for Congress to be doing that doing this. Exactly. Exactly. I mean, and then just to start off the new year on a negative note, I mean, can we leave all that stuff in in in the past year and started fresh with positive things? What I mean? What about all this talk about coming together? About unity. That is the biggest bunch of hooey. I have heard. How do you talk? Unity? I mean you immunity for them is to beat us over the head with clubs of into the ground and silence us. Oh, yeah, that's the social distancing, You know, they don't want people to be able to get to gather and talk and catch up and coordinate. You know, they want people disarrayed confused, Angry, scared so they could be you know, militantly did easier E re education camps. Well, the last guy that sent people that camps his name was a loft. Yeah. Yeah, well, that's what that's what I mean. I mean, how are these people even allowed to blatantly feeling election basically in front of your faces, and, uh, the, you know, deal out to proceed like as if as if there's nothing else like it was a legitimate election. I mean, this death I back in the days. If this would have happened 100 years ago, I guarantee those people would have been sent out on a rail. You know, in charge. This is this is what you need to do. Okay? We can complain about this last election. All we want. What we got to start focusing on is what's gonna happen in the next election. Well, we need to do is we need to call our state legislators, Republicans and Democrats call them all. And tell them tell them that a losing candidate should have the right automatically to request and obtain a full for independent forensic audit of the voting machines by an auditor of their choice. And if the auditor find something that it automatically goes into court for an independent assessment as to whether or not their election results are valid or not, You know, we need a way need to get rid of this nonsense where people have evidence, but no court takes it and no pork. No. No court actually wants to dig in and considerate. Or like what's going on America but county where they basically wanted Excuse the expression fixed the on it. You know these machines? "Online. My guest today is an old friend Nellie Dylan, who was the first woman president of a network Telemundo and has written a book called Self Made, and Woman. Are you ever yell? A welcome Thank you. Power love seeing you, and by the way, First Latina present. There have been other women president. That's right. That's a good point. While it's a better point, actually, because when you talk about being the first Latino president, that's a big deal, and you're gonna give you tell people in this. Pull up your bootstraps and get things going to get all the all the chips on your end. Well, I think Look, first of all, you can think that entrepreneurship is some grandiose Think I think you have to just get started, right? I think people think sometimes when I talk to women, especially they go entrepreneurship. It seems like you're supposed to be set Our Blakely that starts Spanx, and then it feels on wheels Lee and think you can do it. I think you're just literally start from selling clothes out of your closet that you really needed to get rid of on eBay or Amazon and just get going. Do it an hour a week. Do it Whenever. Do it as a side. Hustle while you have a job, But get going because sooner or later the day will come when you get laid off. The day will come when you're the wrong age for a job, and you're gonna have no skills, no muscle built around being entrepreneurial. And so that's why I say just start in a shared our economy. Anybody could drive an uber You can rent the room out of your house on Airbnb. Entrepreneurship is about just get going. Do it at the land thing on the land line. Do we have enough time here like to talk about all the obstacles that you had to go through to get where you are, I mean, You know a lot. But you know what? But you can't look at it. I mean, part of being an entrepreneur is you have to really want you really have to want a better life for yourself. Because guess what? Yeah, there are a million obstacles. Are there opposite goals going to up the good corporate ladder? They're even more obstacles. So as an entrepreneur, all the obstacles you hit. At least you're doing it for yourself and to build wealth and to build abundance. So you know, look at it as your your life is a video game You get from level one to Level two, and you blow it and you go back to level one, but You get up on the horse again and do it again. You know the the important word on the cover of this book, Self made is empowerment or empowered Because all we really had there is no Howard until you have your own money. There is no if you're working for the man all the time. You're not empowered completely because you knew somebody could fire you. There has to be one little part of your life. Even an hour a week that you own that you own the whole thing. So how do you cut that cord? Well, you don't do it overnight. You have to start worrying about you have to create a dream that's bigger than where you're at. You have to really create a plan that's in steps. You have to take baby steps by having little winds. As I said You couldn't sell something on eBay. Amazon do little things. You don't cut the cord of night or you're crazy. You have to do it planned out. Maki, a valiant thought out. And do little things to get studio way where you might even turn your corporation into your client talking Anneli Galan, You're watching business rock stars. I'm Pat O'Brien. We connect you all over the world through television, radio and online. The book is called Self Made, You know? Is it almost They're almost too many ideas. Sometimes you think a lot of people drive around the block at this. I got that I got this and they drive themselves crazy. So what you're saying is a lot of us have a d d We do. I am saying that, but but it's true. I think you have to focus on what is the thing that you're uniquely qualified to do. And I told people in your pain is your brand right? So, for instance, you can tell me something. More horrible. I mean, women have told me horrible things like, Oh, my God. My husband used to beat me up. Whatever. And then the woman goes and finds this therapy, physical therapy that helps her and she realizes I'm gonna learn that physical therapy and I'm going to create Massage places for people who have trauma, and the woman's become rich from that, because she took her pain, and instead of denying it, she turned it into profit. So you've got to really focus on what's your pain? What's something you know really Well what? Something you're naturally good at. Yeah, There's a million great ideas out there but solve your own problem first, And that means you'll solve the problem from million people like you. How do you convince people Nellie Galan, who wrote the self made I'll get this in. I wrote a book. So I know how important this is, Um How do you convince people who are down and out who don't Maybe have the empowerment yet? Who don't realize that this is all we have is just one second in our life. You got to do something. Now. How do you tell them that to go empower yourself. Well, I think I do it with fear. Like I tell you if you don't do what What is your life gonna look like when you're old man or a woman? Look at someone that hasn't empowered yourself. Older than you and look at what's happened to them. And is that the way you want to get to old age, So I mean, there's not a single person alive. I'm gonna make you start a business. I haven't idea for you. I'm sure you did. You probably got that for everybody. I do, because I think that again these air incredible times the digital age, no barrier to entry. Look at us. We're doing a TV thing together. By Skype. I mean, there are no barriers for people to start anything and so to live in this country, which is a privilege to have all these opportunities the digital age and not do it. It's the era of the entrepreneur. It's crazy not to do it even again, starting small. Let's not get crazy and grandiose, starting small baby steps. I mean, you're crazy not to do it. Yeah, I think the first time somebody makes a mistake or a mistake is made or the the trajectory seems like it's going down. They get disappointed. Bang her out. So how do you get over that? We'll talk about that. In the book, I say Fear and failure have got to be my best friend. What happens in a corporation? When you screw up, you get demoted, You get fired. It's not like that's a smooth sailing thing in entrepreneurial life. You will make make mistakes and you'll fail and right around the corner from the greatest failures of my life. Have been the biggest successes because I figured out what I didn't know There was a piece of the puzzle I didn't know. And by the way.

Wasn't that nice of him. He didn't just have to stay in the basement the whole time. He could move about somewhat freely when they thought it was okay. When they thought maybe he wouldn't knock over a Ming vase or something like that. In this segment. We're looking back at Biden's interview gas, which are separate from his regular gas, because these involve other people, not asking, follow up questions, letting things slide and just ignoring the fact that he's a goof. These next clips come from Biden with Nicole Wallace on MSNBC now to defend slightly. This was early Cove. It locked down and I guess they didn't have the timing and stuff worked out. But Biden was just stopping mid sentence. What Nicole was far too deferential. Oh, it's fine. If you just do whatever you want. Just stop say whatever you want. It's fine. He said Thank you for spending so much time with us. Thank you. Thank you. Good morning. Good morning, everybody in the news this morning. Good morning. Thank you. Thank you. No, thank you. Thank you. I love you, too. Thank you. What Abidance Biggest interview flubs this year that should have heard him should have hurt. A normal person was when he went on the breakfast club. Now, you remember the breakfast Club radio show is the one where Hillary Clinton claims she always had hot sauce in her purse. And it's the one where Kamila Harris last year admitted to smoking weed, You know when she was in college, quote unquote, but the music she was listening to when she smoked weed was only years later, when she was putting people in jail for smoking weed. No big deal. I'm sure it's fine. But Biden went on to reveal racism and I got I mean, the one of the clips made a lot of news. The other one didn't really This one kind of struck me. Couple things everybody has in common in jail. One is they were victims of abuse to their kids were the mother was number two. Can't read Number three. They don't have any job skills. So the people in prison were all victims of abuse. They can't read and I got no job skills. So that seems very sweeping to me. You know, no one can read in jail. I always see in movies like book carts and stuff. They should throw those out. No one can read in jail. So I went to Andy Do framed my friend. This one, of course, was the one that made a lot of trouble for joke telling if you have a problem figuring out what you're for mere trump, and you ain't black. You ain't black. And then you know that made some news, but luckily people like Danna bash were there to take Joe Adam on the top of his little hand and tell him everything's gonna be okay. You know, I'm sure you've seen some Democrats have said. Mr Vice President. Stop apologizing. You're going to stay dumb things Don't apologize. Don't apologize. Look, you're a moron. You're going to say dumb stuff. We don't care. Now, of course. Joe hadn't apologized for that. He went out and attacked the radio host Sharla main, the God and called him a wise guy. And so he was being a wise guy, and he never apologized. Weapons like host. Stop apologizing, Joe. We know what we're getting. You're just not trump. You're befuddled, old man. Don't apologize for being a nincompoop. That's what we like about you. You go on the daily show and you say stuff like this. I don't like you. You know why, For years and years I had to sleep with your picture on my wife's bed table. There are vague piece and of course, now I'll tell you what, man I don't know. I don't know, either. I tell you what, man. Come on, man. I don't like you, man. It's just a man a lot, And when he went out on the road the few times he would emerge from the basement. He would get very few hard questions because when he did get a somewhat hard question, for example. When Doug McKell way, asked Joe Biden if he's had a cognitive test, of course, President Trump took a cognitive test earlier this year. Joe Biden got very defensive and upset and used one of his go to insults last question real quick. Some.

Biden names diverse economic team with four women in top roles to help build recovery
"Group that features four women in top roles, including former Federal Reserve Board chair Janet Yellen as his choice for Treasury secretary. Reporter Jim Tankersley of The New York Times has been following these developments closely. He covers economics for the paper, and he's also the author of the recent book, The Riches of this Land. Jim Tankersley. Thanks so much for being with us again. What do these choices as a group tell you about Joe Biden's priorities What he may do once he takes office. Well, thanks so much for having me Judy. This is a group that is really focused on workers and on labor and maybe one of the most of union friendly groups of top economic advisers. We've seen in the White House in a long time and in particular for policy right out of the gate. It's a group that's going to be very committed on the idea of trying to get the economy up and running as fast as it can as quickly as possible in order to boost worker wages. And it's gonna be not at all shy about pushing additional deficit spending by the federal government in order to get there. And specifically with regard to covert relief, Covad economic relief. Can you tell anything from looking at this group? But what what might happen? Yeah, They've been very clear a number of them from Janet Yellen, the Neera tanden on down on these pics about the sorts of things that need to be done to help. People and businesses and state local governments survived. This pandemic on DAT includes more direct aid tol division ALS. It includes more help for small businesses and in particular age of states and local governments who have big budget holes, But also things like passing pandemic paid leave, You know a program to give family and paid leave. The workers who are on the front lines of code in particular, and I think that you will see all of those policies pushed early on by the biting teeth. So let's talk specifics. Janet Yellin at Treasury, the first woman to hold that job as we were saying, what do we know? Based on her record? What to expect from her. Janet Yellen is a labor economist by training on someone who really pushed the Federal Reserve when she was the chairman of the reserve to keep interest rates low for a long time in order to stoke growth, and I think we'll see more of that out of her hear more of a focus on inequality and unworkable is and you know another thing that she's focused on a lot in the last couple of years is on Tearing down the barriers of discrimination in the economy to help women in particular succeed, and I think you'll see her focus on that as well. It's it's been a big deal for her in the economics profession, but it's something that she is talked a lot about having enormous consequences for the broader economy. And then Cecilia Rouse, who President elect Biden Has said he wants to head his council of Economic Advisers. Not as well, a known name as the others. But so what should we know about her? She'll if she's confirmed, should be the first black economist ahead the Council of Economic Advisers she was on the council under President Barack Obama. She's also a labor economist, ah, real expert in a variety of things having to do with labor and education, and just like Jenna Galan has, as focused a lot of academic work on the effects of discrimination. S O. There are some common themes here with the team. And then there is Tol, the Office of Management and Budget. Neera Tanden, who has been around she's someone who I think is familiar. Too many who watch what's going on in Washington. What do what do we look for? From her? Near attended, runs the center for American Progress, which is a liberal think tank, and she has been on adviser to Hillary Clinton. She's been around Washington for a long time. She is someone who has really pushed on a variety of sort of liberal policy agenda items that is more of a political player than the other two. But I think with Neera Tanden, you will see Ah, focus in the Ownby. If she's confirmed on things like climate change healthcare on you on sort of Not shying away again from running budget deficits. Tosto growth, which is you know a real, I think departure from what many progressives thought they might be getting if I hadn't had appointed someone who was more of a moderate deficit, longer term deficit Hawk Democrat to that position. And Jim. What about with regard to Senate confirmation? These three positions we've been talking about all require Senate confirmation. What is expected for each one of them for yelling for rouse and for Tanda. Well, I think Janet Yellen appears likely to be confirmed. Based on the comments that we've seen in the last 24 hours from Republican senators. She's someone who has been confirmed by the Senate before. So is this is the arrest who I think is like that he converted also in less Republicans find some things in her academic work that they really object to Neera Tanden again as a more political player and someone who's Twitter feed has really offended. A lot of Republican senators may face more opposition and that was signaled by Republican senators in the last day that they don't like that she has taken after Republicans in public comments and so that that maybe get hard for them to confirm her. A lot will depend on whether Democrats control the senator Republicans do after the runoff elections that Georgia in January. And one other thing, Jim. I mean, people look to see the differences between this team and the Trump economic team. Pretty significant difference. Sure, there's just a big difference in how they approach the economy. The Trump team came in with a real focus on how do they sperm or business investment of the economy? How can they do more by taking away regulations by cutting taxes to make businesses happier and get them to spend more money on investments of this team is much more focused on workers. How do they support workers? How do they change regulations or even bolster them? To make it easier for people to work and to make that work pay off with higher wages, so it's just completely different angle at looking at the economy and very different policies that will result Him.
